00:01:30
Eden & Briana
Mm-hmm. No, you were gone.
00:01:33
Eden & Briana
No, I was gone last weekend.
00:01:37
Eden & Briana
One night. but don know I don't know. And then the following weekend, however it worked out, ah we decided to renovate the house. And that took up... It still is taking up a lot of time that I don't have. So I got that spring energy cleaning going on. And but just kind of ran with it. So... We apologize for our absence. Absence? Do we, though? Absence?
00:02:09
Eden & Briana
Absence. Yeah. Anyways.

May Awareness Topics

00:02:12
Eden & Briana
So it's too May. Some of the May awarenesses include Mental Health Awareness, National Nurse Month, Lupus Awareness Month, ALS Awareness Month. Now you know McSteamy, Eric Dane, McSteamy, or Mark Sloan. Mm-hmm.
00:02:31
Eden & Briana
He recently lost his battle with ALS. He died? He did. He had Lou Gehrig's.
00:02:41
Eden & Briana
Just in the past few months, he passed away. Holy shit. And Chuck Norris died. And...
00:02:52
Eden & Briana
who who ah Who else just died? um Oh, Lordy.
00:03:00
Eden & Briana
Anyway, I don't know. It was a shocker. So anyway, and then National Foster Care Month, Skin Cancer Prevention Month, Better Sleep Month, and there's many, many more. This was just a few that jumped out, so.
00:03:13
Eden & Briana
I need better sleep, Mom. Yeah, i I thought of you when I Actually, i thought he... Although, yeah I have been sleeping a lot better. I have coughed.
00:03:25
Eden & Briana
Keep talking. I have slept a lot better, um I think, since
00:03:34
Eden & Briana
switching meds. um I only had one nightmare, and that was last night, and I can barely remember it. Cool. So I've been sleeping a lot better, putting, like, more...
00:03:50
Eden & Briana
and Not necessarily holistic healing, but more natural instead of more like chemicals and stuff.
00:04:00
Eden & Briana
Like you're... Yeah. Anyway. So its it has gotten a lot better and it has improved, so...

Bree's Past Delinquency

00:04:08
Eden & Briana
Well, my um true crime news reminded me of you, too. Oh, what?
00:04:14
Eden & Briana
What the fuck? No! no that true that news i'm Not news! I have no crime record. i have no criminal record.
00:04:26
Eden & Briana
That's because it's sealed because you're not a minor anymore. Wait, what? What? What's not sealed? I said that's because it is sealed because you're not a minor anymore. What did I do? Anyway. What did I do? what What is my sealed criminal record?
00:04:48
Eden & Briana
You may have slashed a tire or two and sat in front of a judge. Oh. Anyway, so... true You want me to go on or are you done? I'm done.
00:05:01
Eden & Briana
so no I had anger. But when you hear that you're going to get it, when you hear you're going to get it, because you'd have been one in the ambulance on your way to the hospital. great. Okay,

The Bee Assault Incident

00:05:14
Eden & Briana
so... Oh, my. I'm going to bed. A woman has been found guilty.
00:05:22
Eden & Briana
fifty-nineyear old woman oh has been found guilty i can't this is bad of four counts of simple assault and battery and two counts of reckless assault in connection with a 2022 incident in which she used a swarm of bees as a weapon oh
00:05:50
Eden & Briana
How did you her guilty of that? I'll tell you. Let me me keep going. Oh, shit. On October 12, 2022, deputies came to a residence to and enforce an eviction when Rory Woods came out wearing a beekeeper suit towing a beehive.
00:06:10
Eden & Briana
According to a statement from the sheriff's office, Rory, quote, smashed the lid and flipped the hive off of the flatbed, making the bees extremely aggressive.
00:06:21
Eden & Briana
They swarmed the area and stung several officers and other innocent bystanders who were nearby, unquote. Some of the deputies present were reportedly allergic to bees. And when they made her aware of this, she said, quote, Oh, you're allergic?
00:06:37
Eden & Briana
Good. Unquote. And brought the bees up to the door of the home where they became even more agitated. Many of the deputies present were stung. One was taken to the hospital. She was found guilty on April 17th and sentenced to six months behind bars for the incident.
00:06:55

00:07:06
Eden & Briana
I use bees as a weapon. Mm-hmm. dumb ways to die. Oh, God. So many dumb ways to die. You'd have been the one in the hospital. Yep.
00:07:24
Eden & Briana
I have not

Technical Glitches

00:07:25
Eden & Briana
picked up my medication, by the way.
00:07:29
Eden & Briana
We called that in over a week ago. I haven't really been to Mona, though. You should have had Dean drive through and grab it. I just don't know which one.
00:07:42
Eden & Briana
Oh god, it did it again. Oh my, Lanta, it's doing it. What's it doing? I don't know, it's freaking out. it opened a new tab.
00:07:51
Eden & Briana
It's typing random shit in. I'd say you got a virus.
00:07:59
Eden & Briana
Huh. What's it typing? It went into Chrome settings and it's typing search engines.
00:08:10
Eden & Briana
What in the fuck? Can you close it?
00:08:19
Eden & Briana
yeah Is our recording still going? No.
00:08:25
Eden & Briana
Yes. It's still going now. What the hell?
00:08:31
Eden & Briana
I don't know. So do we just go on? I guess. Okay. Because we're, I mean, we're nine minutes in. oh Bring your computer next time. Yeah.
00:08:46
Eden & Briana
Okay, so... For this episode... What the hell's wrong with you? What'd you do? Did you forget to shake it? I don't know. You got complete powder, didn't you?
00:08:59
Eden & Briana
No, it's just very, very strong.
00:09:06
Eden & Briana
many packets did you put in there? One, but it was like... A quarter of... maybe half. I don't know. my god. Okay. So for this episode... It's just water, guys.
00:09:19
Eden & Briana
o Now I gotta clear my voice again. Sorry, guys. Yeah. You're welcome. Okay. We're a little loosey-goosey.
00:09:30
Eden & Briana
Oh, we're more than that. So for this episode, we're going to Now, it could be La Marque. It could be whatever. I'm going to call La Marque. Texas. Good God.
00:09:42
Eden & Briana
have something in my eye. It's bad.
00:09:47
Eden & Briana
Just keep going.

Chance's Troubled Background

00:09:48
Eden & Briana
Okay. To the year 2015. La Marque is located along I-45 between Houston and Galveston. And it's known as quote, gateway to the Gulf and hub of the mainland, unquote.
00:10:03
Eden & Briana
In 2024, are you okay over there? is Did you get your finger out of your eye? I didn't. Is it your contact?
00:10:14
Eden & Briana
No, it was like a hard piece of mascara bowl. Oh, jeez. So in 2024, the population of Lamarck was approximately 20,000 people. That's not everything.
00:10:27
Eden & Briana
Now, today's episode is about Chance Michael Mosley, but to paint the whole story, feel... What the hell? Oh my god. Excuse me.
00:10:43
Eden & Briana
Sorry. I'm loosey-goosey. Oh my god. i don't know. okay Okay. Focus.
00:10:54
Eden & Briana
To paint the whole story, I feel I need to take you back to a quick overview of Chance's family history. Because this episode is so tragic in like multiple ways. It was just a rough one to research, but here we go.
00:11:09
Eden & Briana
So Nita... And her sister, Betty, grew up in an extremely abusive home. CPS involvement was quite frankly frequent.
00:11:20
Eden & Briana
And when Nita was 14 years old, she was placed at Chimney Rock, which was a CPS facility located in Houston for adolescent teens. While there, she was recruited by traffickers.
00:11:34
Eden & Briana
Now, I've got rabbit hole. i have questions. How? But then I found this. So it it it's basically really unclear to me if if she got trafficked while in CPS facility or if she ran away from the facility and fell into it traffickers' groups.
00:11:59
Eden & Briana
I read it both ways. So big rabbit hole, she was able to be trafficked while in a CPS facility, You know what I mean? it was like, how?
00:12:13
Eden & Briana
How? that But it it would make more sense to me that she ran away from the facility. And then, but I can't tell you for sure either way. So, you know, take it how you will.
00:12:32
Eden & Briana
So Nita survived human trafficking from the age of 14 to the age of 21. Oh. Mm-hmm.
00:12:39
Eden & Briana
During this time frame, she became pregnant by one of her traffickers, and at the age of 17, she gave birth to Chance. After escaping trafficking, Nita struggled with drug and alcohol addiction, which, as one knows, takes a huge toll on one's ability to effectively parent.
00:13:01
Eden & Briana
Correct. The cycle of abuse and trauma was not broken, but instead it carried down to Chance by his mom's instability, drug and alcohol addiction, and emotional trauma.
00:13:14
Eden & Briana
Chance's life was like a roller coaster. In 2005, Nita's home was deemed unsafe, and at the age of four, Chance was removed from Nita's care and placed into a foster home.
00:13:29
Eden & Briana
In 2007, at the age of six, custody of Chance was granted to his maternal grandmother. a year later, at the age of seven, Nita regained custody of Chance.
00:13:43
Eden & Briana
And then once again in 2010, Chance would be about nine years old now. CPS took custody of Chance with the court ordering Nita to complete psychological drugs and alcohol evaluations.
00:13:57
Eden & Briana
there Excuse me. I've got to clear my throat. Pearl must have really been sleeping in here heavy. My allergies are on like bad. Maybe we should switch spots for me. Sorry. I got a cough.
00:14:10
Eden & Briana
Oh yeah. It's choking up my throat. So in 2011, custody of chance was then given to the father, Michael Rivera.
00:14:25
Eden & Briana
who family members say was one of Nita's traffickers. Now, that would be rabbit hole number two for me. Just what the fudge.
00:14:38
Eden & Briana
If he's a known trafficker, how in the hell do you give custody to? How does that happen? you okay Okay. Okay. So in 2014, Michael was sent to jail for violating a protection order and Chance was sent to stay with his paternal grandparents this time.
00:15:04
Eden & Briana
Yeah. In August, oh, damn it, Pearl. Do you want to pause and switch spots? No, it's okay. In August 2014, Nita and Michael showed up around midnight at the grandparents' house.
00:15:18
Eden & Briana
They both were very erratic and appeared to be under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or maybe even both. And a now 13-year-old Chance was terrified and didn't want to go with them. And to kind of ram that in he said he would run away first.
00:15:33
Eden & Briana
Oh. They were messed up and, yeah. So Stella Rivera, his paternal grandmother, filed paperwork citing extreme concern for Chance's safety due to his parents' drug use, criminal histories, and erratic behaviors.
00:15:50
Eden & Briana
However, in December of 2014, Nita regained custody of a now 14-year-old Chance. in Now,
00:16:07
Eden & Briana
According to family accounts, Chance was already doing drugs, showing violence, and was out of control when Nita regained custody. And I can't imagine why. i mean, it's not like he's had any kind of stability in his life, but I'm not making excuses for because obviously we're, ah he's, you know, it's on the show. So obviously it's bad, but.
00:16:32
Eden & Briana
There were ongoing arguments between Nita and Chance. Chance was harboring extreme resentment over custody losses, and apparently Chance was violent violent towards Nita at times.
00:16:45
Eden & Briana
So now we have a very toxic recipe in the cauldron.

The Crime and Trial of Chance

00:16:50
Eden & Briana
We've got two people in the same house with severe emotional trauma, unstable toxic environment, physical violence of some sort.
00:16:59
Eden & Briana
There's got to be trust issues. And let's add a pinch of meth addiction.
00:17:08
Eden & Briana
Let's say untreated or unsuccessfully treated. And you kind of stir that whole shit show up and you've got yourself a boiling pot of it's going to hit the damn fan. Right?
00:17:19
Eden & Briana
Mm-hmm.
00:17:25
Eden & Briana
Welcome to the jungle.
00:17:29
Eden & Briana
In September the 26th, 2015, to be exact, a 17-week pregnant Nita took 14-year-old Chance to a drug house where together they spent the majority of the day doing drugs.
00:17:54
Eden & Briana
There's so many things wrong with that. Let's not take into fact that you're pregnant. but you're taking your 14-year-old son to a drug house.
00:18:05
Eden & Briana
in
00:18:09
Eden & Briana
and Okay.
00:18:11
Eden & Briana
They returned home and started arguing over our yeah arguing sorry over household chores. this argument sorry i got i got a sorry can
00:18:29
Eden & Briana
This argument, um
00:18:34
Eden & Briana
which was fueled by their meth use, turned physical. Chance stabbed his mom 57 times, including in the head and neck, and finished with using an electrical cord to strangle her.
00:18:49
Eden & Briana
Chance then took a shower to wash off all the blood. He then took his mom's cell phone, removing the SIM card to avoid being tracked, and helped himself to his mom's car, using it to drive to a friend's house to smoke weed.
00:19:03
Eden & Briana
From there, he made his way to Houston, where he was arrested and confessed to killing his mom because he had been reported missing by somebody.
00:19:13
Eden & Briana
So he was initially charged in juvenile court, but after hearing After hearings that considered the offense's seriousness, his background, and community welfare, the decision was made that he would stand trial as an adult.
00:19:29
Eden & Briana
Sorry. The 2020 trial resulted in a guilty verdict on capital murder charges after about six hours of jury deliberation.
00:19:42
Eden & Briana
He received a life sentence, but due to his juvenile status, he will be eligible for parole at some point in time. Now, I have more.
00:19:54
Eden & Briana
I'm so sorry. The The allergies.

Online Debate on Narrative

00:19:59
Eden & Briana
Now, this story was covered on the show Evil Lives Here. Season 16, episode one, it's called, quote, he saved her life, then took it, unquote. i have not watched it yet.
00:20:17
Eden & Briana
I cannot wait to watch it, but I'm a little hesitant to watch it. But... And here's the reason why. in There are a lot of opinions on the internet about it.
00:20:29
Eden & Briana
So of course, I had to jump down the Reddit rabbit hole. And this is what I found. Some felt that there was a lot of missing information and was more to the story.
00:20:40
Eden & Briana
It was posted that it seemed like they were trying to point.
00:20:47
Eden & Briana
Oh, my throat. I'm so sorry. um It seemed like they were trying to paint Nita as this saint who birthed an evil child. And it seemed they were grasping at straws to make it seem like this kid had psycho psychopathic tendencies.
00:21:04
Eden & Briana
One post read this poor kid had a terrible life and was so, so acting out. Not because he's a psychopath, but because he needed help. Another posted, quote, I'm not sure what to think, but I don't believe the full story was being told.
00:21:20
Eden & Briana
I think the aunt doesn't understand the full scope of what was going on behind closed doors and is trying to clear her sister's name, unquote. Another post said, quote, exactly. The sister's story makes zero sense. I believe she and her sister are sociopaths.
00:21:40
Eden & Briana
Poor chance, unquote. And this last one said, quote, you're right on point. I know the family, unquote. So I wanted this episode to air before I watched the documentary. So I'm looking forward to watching it and seeing where I land on my feels about it.
00:21:59
Eden & Briana
a But that was a lot of controversy about that episode. So in my research, I used my research to get the whole picture of the story.
00:22:12
Eden & Briana
And then now I'm getting this whole other side when I jump down this hole about this documentary.
00:22:21
Eden & Briana
Yeah, so I'm interested to watch it too, just to see where I sit too. Is it going to land somewhere in the middle? But but these these are court documents. This story is taken from...
00:22:34
Eden & Briana
so
00:22:39
Eden & Briana
Is the truth somewhere in the middle?
00:22:43
Eden & Briana
don't know. Or is it just how different people see things through different... Rose colored glasses. i don't, what is it? i don't know.
00:22:53
Eden & Briana
So, um, I hope you all have as many questions as I do about this episode and may your rabbit holes bring you the answers that you so desire.
