00:00:40
Speaker
am your other host, Tiffany Orr. and together we are Beyond Aesthetics podcast. We're so happy to be here. And we're really excited for today's episode. Actually, we're excited for every episode that we we record together. not going to lie.
00:00:55
Speaker
Today's episode, though, is all about the growth mindset and how personal development fuels your career success and how the two are very, very connected.
00:01:07
Speaker
So in this episode, your career will never outgrow you Um, in this episode of be beyond aesthetics podcast, we're exploring the powerful connection between personal growth and professional success.
00:01:21
Speaker
The beauty industry is constantly evolving and to keep up, you have to be growing. not just in your skills, but in your mindset, your discipline, and your emotional intelligence.
00:01:33
Speaker
We'll break down how working on yourself directly impacts your business, your client relationships, and your long-term success. If you're ready to elevate every aspect of your life and your career, this conversation is for you.
00:01:48
Speaker
Yay, this is such a huge part of just who we are. so i think that's one reason that I know I'm really excited about this episode is because this is really what Beyond Aesthetics all about. you know, we could have started a business that was overly business focused or overly skills focused. um But we chose not to do that because the personal and the professional and even the spiritual just go so deeply hand

Insight and Clarity Workbook for Growth

00:02:16
Speaker
in hand. And it's something that is not only missing in our industry, but I think in a lot of industries and, you know, as Tiffany and i have moved through our careers, there's just been so much,
00:02:31
Speaker
personal development that has come along with that and ah so much spiritual development that has come along with that too. And we recognize that and feel it on such a deep level in our souls. And so we, I just don't think that we could start this business without fully recognizing that aspect of it.
00:02:53
Speaker
And, And so that's why I'm really excited to just dive a little bit deeper into it. And I honestly, they so you know what, we should probably even just start off by talking about the insight and clarity process.
00:03:07
Speaker
Yeah. And how surprising that really is to people when you start working with us, because you, you know, we get on consult calls and people get really excited about our mastermind groups and our, okay.
00:03:21
Speaker
And the thing is, the starting process to all of that is this, what I have now dubbed the insight and clarity process, which is basically just a workbook, we try to give at least, you know, two to three weeks for people to go through this process.
00:03:40
Speaker
And so much of it is very personal. i mean, not level, like we don't know about your relationships or anything like that, but there's so much like daily and how are you really feeling about life? And, you know, let's talk about your weaknesses. Let's talk about your strengths.
00:04:00
Speaker
And we really dig into the personal, side of things because you just can't not do that. I could never move forward with helping and coaching somebody without asking those deeper questions and gaining deeper insight into basically the inner workings. Because if we don't do that, then i we cannot move forward professionally.
00:04:29
Speaker
And not only that, but you know when we were talking about this episode night, night One reason why we chose this one to do today is because there's really not one person that we're working with currently.
00:04:43
Speaker
And we've got quite the roster that isn't in this place of needing to go deeper or ah you know, all of these deeper things personally are coming up for them.
00:04:57
Speaker
because their careers are also on a different trajectory too.

Personal Challenges as Growth Opportunities

00:05:01
Speaker
And so sometimes you can't outrun it either. You can't even ignore that the two go together. a really good example is a girl who we were speaking with a couple of weeks ago, and she said,
00:05:15
Speaker
every time that I feel so good about or get very, very excited about my career, and I feel like I'm ready to just, you know, dive into it and move in this deeper and bigger direction, all of this personal trauma from my childhood starts coming up.
00:05:31
Speaker
And Tiffany and I are just like looking at each other on the call and we're like, Yeah, girl, we know. so And it's almost an exciting thing too. Cause I'm like, yeah, this is great that these things are coming up for you because it means that, you know, your soul is literally putting this in place for you to heal so that you can actually move forward in, you know, what you're desiring and moving forward on your career path. So the two just have to go together. They just have to go hand in hand.
00:06:10
Speaker
Oh yeah. And you know what we, like, if we were to try and keep it surface level, it wouldn't, we wouldn't be successful in our leadership and our coaching. And we would be falling short of,
00:06:23
Speaker
helping um everybody we work with navigate because it just, like you said, it goes hand in hand. You cannot have one without the other. And you and I both can deeply attest to that because we've been through it. We are going through it. We will continue to go through it.
00:06:38
Speaker
It's just something that To get to where we're going, we have to have to have to go deep and we have to deal with our personal stuff to to succeed in that. And so, and like you said, I get so excited. I'm never surprised when somebody that we're working with has stuff come up because I'm just like,
00:06:57
Speaker
Uh-huh. Yep. Here it comes. Hold on. yeah Buckle up, buttercup. And it's all really good things, even though it can be painful and even though it can be scary. And, you know, we may want to ignore it like we probably have been for most of our lives.
00:07:11
Speaker
um And so it's just I always get excited. But let's circle back to the Insight and Clarity workbook really quick. So do you want to walk our listeners through a little bit what that looks like?
00:07:22
Speaker
Because it is such a deep experience and it's really, really helpful. And so this is something that everyone we work with, everyone we coach, whether they're in our mastermind group or we work with them one-on-one, we have them go through.
00:07:37
Speaker
Yeah, I developed this actually far before I created that business. So I created this before I had Tiffany join in. I only did it for maybe five months before i knew I couldn't do this without her.
00:07:54
Speaker
But i had that workbook developed far before that. And I had actually developed it for different reasons. And I and made that for, you probably don't even know this.
00:08:07
Speaker
i had wanted basically like a new year's reflection program that I had wanted to offer. And I didn't have a ton of clarity behind what that was going to look like, but I just knew that every new year's I have this process that I go through and I wanted to basically merge that personal relationship and professional process into one workbook and create, you know, and like an offer around it.
00:08:38
Speaker
And then, It just stuck with me for a long, long, long time. So I did that and I had a small live group do it of estheticians.
00:08:51
Speaker
And they loved it so much that I was like, okay, this is a thing that could probably be a little bit more. And so I literally had just had like one session. So I had about six estheticians.
00:09:04
Speaker
I had them go through that workbook. We met for breakfast and then we talked through some of it with each other. And it just ended up being so powerful that i at that moment, again, i knew that I had more.
00:09:16
Speaker
And so I held onto that and I believe, um i don't know the exact timing, but when you and I sat down in August of 2023,
00:09:30
Speaker
And I was like, you know what, I have something though already. Cause Tiffany was like, why aren't you just coaching people? and I felt the same about her, but I was like, you know what, I do have a blueprint already. i really do have something that is ready.
00:09:44
Speaker
And so it was literally within a week that i launched it and um, i but i i So I was like, this is a part of the process. And I gave everybody the workbook.
00:09:56
Speaker
And then as they were going through that, and I was getting it back, I was in tears and reached out to Tiffany. And I was like, see, these are the things that people need help with. And I can't believe that I had waited so long.
00:10:09
Speaker
Because the personal things just... were so deep. And essentially what the workbook does is, I mean, we, it's like looking back a little bit, it's like, how did you get here? How long have you been here?
00:10:27
Speaker
And then at the very beginning of the workbook is ah rating system. So I basically have taken every topic imaginable in our industry I made a list of it and then ask people to rate themselves on a scale from one to five. but Where are you really at with this? And it is a mix of personal and professional. And then after that, I mean, I haven't, I cannot remember off the top of my head, but it is a lot of questions about kind of your like daily routine.
00:10:59
Speaker
you know, do you read? are do you have a morning routine? do you have a support system? do you have... I don't know how I worded this, but like, do you have self-care? Do you have these rituals? you have these things, you know?
00:11:17
Speaker
And then from there, it's a lot of vision work and where do you want to be? And it's extremely specific too. I'm like, i need to know,
00:11:30
Speaker
We need to know how much money you want to make every week and then every month and exactly what you want your schedule to look like. And it also asks you, why doesn't it look like this currently? And so there's just, it's kind of in your face a little bit in the best way possible.
00:11:48
Speaker
And there are a couple of people who have really struggled with it, you know, and they're like, wow, this is really surprising. And there's a lot that's coming up for me that I think has just been really hidden and pushed to down.
00:12:02
Speaker
yeah, And yeah, so that's kind of what it is. It's just sort of dissecting, you know, what are your goals? Why are they your goals? What does success even mean to you?
00:12:14
Speaker
And you know, what value is this going to bring to yourself in the world? If you even achieve these goals, why

Impact of Personal Growth on Career Changes

00:12:20
Speaker
haven't you achieved these goals? And you just have to dissect all of those things in order to be able to move forward.
00:12:29
Speaker
Absolutely. And it really helps them discover their why. Why are they here in the first place? Why did they come into this industry? It's really reflective and it's really brings a lot of awareness. And I think you're right. I think it's hard for some of them because it is making them think about it and making them really dive deep when and it's starting to connect the pieces, right?
00:12:55
Speaker
And so that's the whole point of it. It's really such a beautiful process. And I love it because it's always like when they come with a specific pain point or struggle in their business, we can directly relate it to where they're at personally.
00:13:10
Speaker
And it just helps us create this very clear roadmap on how we can help them get from point A to point B and beyond. And so it's just such, such a, I don't know, an experience.
00:13:22
Speaker
And i every time we start with a new group, especially, i always go through the, the process myself too, because it changes for me as well. And so it helps keep me accountable too. And I really love that.
00:13:35
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. It's pretty cool. And even if people do struggle with it, like we have had a couple of people, it actually makes them more excited about working with us because they're like, wow, i don't know. I think I need help with this. And we're like, yeah, that's what we're here for. not Absolutely.
00:13:51
Speaker
It's intentional for sure. Thank you for sharing that. Um, so let's get into the, into the episode today. So why personal growth and career growth are connected.
00:14:04
Speaker
Your business is a direct reflection of you. If you're stagnant personally, your career will be too. And so the most successful estheticians don't just invest in education, they invest in self-awareness and confidence and in leadership.
00:14:21
Speaker
And personal growth shapes your resilience, adaptability and ability to push through challenges. You know, there's so many entrepreneurs that I love listening to especially like male ah and female.
00:14:35
Speaker
And they all talk about this very regularly, especially as they, you know, skyrocket and become millionaires and multimillionaires. It's, every single time that they are stuck in their business, they also realize that they are stuck in their personal life.
00:14:53
Speaker
And every time that they are stuck in their personal life, they also realize that they are stuck in their business. So it's all our life the energy. You know, that's why it just goes hand in hand and everything is, and you know, streaming into each other. It's not it's not this and that it's all of this goes together. It's just the stream. it's this, you know, and, and so you,
00:15:24
Speaker
You just kind of realize that, especially as you choose a career, especially a career like this, and that is constantly evolving and it's constantly changing.
00:15:35
Speaker
But it's interesting, like once you get your mind set and you get on that road, all of the sudden you realize that, and you know, I'm stuck. My career is stuck.
00:15:47
Speaker
Absolutely. It's just so interesting how it works. I like that perspective of it's not like my personal life and my career on two different paths that hopefully are running parallel to each other.
00:15:59
Speaker
It's absolutely not. I think I operated in that zone for so long. And then once I had kind of, you know, i don't know what you want to call it, my spiritual awakening or my breakdown, both.
00:16:11
Speaker
And they really started to intermix. And then I was like, oh, this is the whole point. Like we are, our our ah point is to build like this, build and create and cultivate this beautiful life with this beautiful career inside of this beautiful life and have them really co-create together.
00:16:30
Speaker
and instead of trying to like, you know, force this career and then, maintain or manage this life on the other side, they really do intermix. And so we really have to look at like all of the aspects and all the pieces and open up those doors that have been closed and really continue to work on our personal development in order to achieve our our professional development and that spiritual development goes alongside of it as well. However, that looks for each individual.
00:16:58
Speaker
It's interesting that you say that. And now I'm really reflecting on, you know, my own situation because for years i used my career to run from my personal life. You know, I just ki was a workaholic for really since I was 16 up until pretty recently.
00:17:17
Speaker
And I was using it as, you know, an escape or I was like, well, if this part of my life is amazing and always in, you know, kind of an upward trajectory, then I can just use that as like the goodness in my life.
00:17:34
Speaker
But Now that I really reflect on it, when I think back to my own spiritual awakening, my own healing, my own kind of breakdowns and rebuilding, when i moved to Idaho and really, truly just gained my self-worth and really came into myself, that's really when things started to take off for me.
00:17:59
Speaker
And, and they really have ever since, but at the same and time, I've been going through an insane amount of growth and, And so it's interesting to reflect on that. Like if you continue to use your career or, you know, to escape your personal life or even vice versa, if you are like so indulged in your personal life that your career is lacking, then, you know, you're, you're net, you're going to stay so
00:18:31
Speaker
Yeah. Because i could also literally never make above a certain amount of money when I was doing that. It just seemed like i was always struggling financially. Well, from the outside, I think people looked inside and they were like, oh you know, she's working for Eminence and she's doing this, but it was a very, very different story than I think what a lot of people thought that it was.

Addressing Personal Issues to Unlock Potential

00:18:54
Speaker
And, um, I was always really stuck at this very, very set amount until I did some healing and until I came into my self-worth.
00:19:07
Speaker
And then ever since then, it's really been unlimited. for me And it still continues to just like, no matter what I do, the thermometer is so much higher. I'm so glad you brought up the financial aspect, especially ah feeling stuck. And that's so true. And it's like, okay, oh well, I'm working more. I'm you know, i should be making more, but then like stuck energy can be like, okay, well, yes, I have more money coming in, but more money has to go out. You know what I mean?
00:19:36
Speaker
So it's like, yes, I just got this, say $2,000 paycheck and my car broke down and it was like $2,200. And so that's that type of stuck energy. And that can also relate to your relationships, your personal relationships of being stuck in those And i mean, it can go into your family. It can go into so many different aspects. Your, say your health and your nutrition and your weight and being stuck there.
00:20:03
Speaker
So that energy just can get so stuck. And I think everybody listening can relate to that stuck feeling. I know everybody on this planet has been stuck at some form or another.
00:20:14
Speaker
And so it's also like, and want to relate this to like somebody maybe who has gone through like a midlife crisis and you're just like, What is going on?
00:20:26
Speaker
They've like changed careers. They got a divorce. They're like traveling around the world. And it's finally because that they've probably dealt with so much of their stuff that they haven't all of their life, but maybe it's taken them till they're like 60 years old and then they're doing it. And so I think like for me, I don't want to be that person. I want to deal with my stuff as it comes up so that, you know, I can live this beautiful life and not put all of the things that I want on hold.
00:20:54
Speaker
And even though the stuff that comes up is hard and it's like hard conversations and hard things to navigate and all of these things. But like, I think it's just like, it's so worth it in the moment to do it so that I can get to where I'm going. Does that make any sense?
00:21:09
Speaker
Yeah, it really does. And, you know, just our conversations recently too about, you know, where all of a sudden we have this more massive vision for beyond aesthetics. When I started feeling like that, you know, and I was telling you about this the other day, I was like, wow, I have this like amazing vision and I'm, you know, seeing these things.
00:21:28
Speaker
I was like, okay, well, where in my life am I holding myself back from making that happen? And so it's so interesting that, Now I think both of us are to a place where we're like, well, if we want these bigger things and we, you know, have this vision to get out there and help even more people, you know, and have even more like, yes, financial success comes from that. But I'm like, we can really, you know, help more people and do this thing and make it bigger and whatever.
00:21:56
Speaker
But my mind and I think yours too immediately goes to okay well that's going to also mean I need to take care of this thing and that thing and make sure that I'm not you know know stuck in any of those areas.
00:22:11
Speaker
so that the flow can happen, right? So that it can happen even with more. I wouldn't necessarily say the word ease, but we just kind of know if we want to go here, that means that we have to take an even deeper look at some of those nitty gritty things in the personal life too. Oh yeah.
00:22:31
Speaker
And we all know what they are. i My mind is going directly to what I've been ignoring. even that Even stuff that's like not hard stuff. It's just like stuff that's eating at me. Then I'm just like, I'll get to that later. That's your cue that those are the things to pay attention to when they just keep resurfacing in your life, when they just won't go away, when you feel like you've solved the problem, but you've kind of just put a bandaid on it and then it resurfaces or re comes up in maybe a different type of relationship or a different scenario down the road. That's the stuff we're talking about. Like that's the stuff that's going to keep repeating in your life until you really
00:23:09
Speaker
really deal with it and look at it and heal from it and whatever that looks like for you. So very, very valid points. We all have them for sure. Have them and you have to just unlock it. It's just the ability of like unlocking these things and, but you know, ah healing them and then setting them free. And then it just creates the flow.
00:23:32
Speaker
Absolutely. It's really such a beautiful process. So personal growth, the inner work that elevates your career. First thing is a mindset, overcoming self-doubt, imposter syndrome, and fear of failure.
00:23:48
Speaker
This is something that I don't even know if overcoming is the right write word for it, because it's maybe something that will, at least for me, i may be speaking to myself here,
00:24:00
Speaker
It's a repeating thing that probably will continue to come up because it's like i unlock a new level of say success and then it reappears. Right. And it's just something that it's a pattern um that I just continue to learn to navigate. So maybe navigating self-doubt, imposter syndrome and fear failure is a better word for it I think there's a lot of things that you can overcome with it, but maybe um I don't know if it's something that will ever go away.
00:24:29
Speaker
What are your thoughts on that? I think I would know that to be true. i i definitely think that even the most successful people, definitely that can come up for them. But I think the difference...
00:24:41
Speaker
And the best way to navigate it is by just doing it anyways. Like we feel the fear and we do it anyways. We have the imposter syndrome and we do it anyways. We have the self-doubt, but we're like, well, I'm just going to do it anyways. And the more that you can just do it anyways, then you're and even when it comes up for you, you're going to just do it anyways. And that's the best way to navigate and the best way to, you know, quote unquote, overcome it, because I definitely think you're right. I don't think it's something that just disappears and goes away.

Daily Habits and Emotional Intelligence for Success

00:25:18
Speaker
However, you can create that by just doing it anyways, you're going to create so much evidence too. so when it does come up, you look back and you're like, well, I doubted myself when i launched the podcast, you know, I felt like an imposter when I launched the podcast, but now look how many listeners we have from all over the world and the amount of love and appreciation that we get for, you know, putting ourselves out there this way. And so, well, I guess that I can, you know, do it again in this scenario.
00:25:46
Speaker
Exactly. That's exactly what I meant is you kind of you like you said, you have to feel the fear and do it anyways. And it does get because And you still might have those feelings come up, but you're just like, but we're going to do it anyways, because you have such a clear vision and you know where you want to go and you're dealing with your stuff on your personal side.
00:26:05
Speaker
And you're just like, okay, this is, I'm just going to take that leap of faith. I'm going to jump off that cliff and know that my spiritual wings are going to fly and catch me. and it's going to be okay. And so it really does just build confidence and it does get easier. And like you said, the most successful people in the world where we've read their books and listened to their podcasts and follow them on social media, it doesn't go away from them either.
00:26:28
Speaker
And so just like, that makes me feel so much better. And like, if Ed Milet still gets nervous, I'm fine. if This is normal. Yes, totally agree. My routine, discipline and habits.
00:26:41
Speaker
So how daily routines, time management and self-care impact your business success. I was actually just listening to a really great podcast about all of this this morning. And I don't think that there's anything more important than this point right here. Your daily discipline and your daily habits and how that actually is going to affect your business success.
00:27:03
Speaker
Like you have to have the habits and the routines that in order to achieve anything, everything comes down to your habits. Everything comes down to your routines.
00:27:17
Speaker
um And obviously being able to manage your time, at least somewhat optimally. I don't know anyone who just completely masters time management. It's kind of a process of ah trying a lot of different things that end up working for You you know, it's very much like a trial and and tracking sort of a process to just to figure out what works and feels the best for you. But yeah, those daily routines and those daily habits trump everything.
00:27:45
Speaker
Absolutely everything. And it's always something that keeps me anchored. And that I go back to when I'm just like, get a little bit frustrated when maybe things, my timeline isn't moving as fast as I'd like it to. I would like my timeline to move so much faster than it does, but I'm just like, okay. And this has taken me years to get to, I've actually only been like, made i wouldn't even call mastering it, but navigating discipline my discipline and habits, the daily ones for the last couple of years.
00:28:10
Speaker
But I really, really circle back and anchor back into them. I'm like, okay, well, if I just like can keep my routines and keep my consistency and keep my discipline, It does help move that needle. And I've seen it firsthand and it helps me, i think, navigate my anxiety a little bit and my frustration and my overwhelm.
00:28:30
Speaker
It's so, so, so important. it's very foundational tool. Oh, yeah. In fact, I mean, that is how we always start with people is with just the foundation of your habits and your time management and what your daily life is really looking like.
00:28:43
Speaker
And the thing that's important to remember, too, and we love talking about this, but when you can keep those promises to yourself, that's also where your trust in yourself and your confidence really comes from. And so the micro habits you know, and the macro habits are really, really important because every time that you keep it, you are adding to your own self-trust and self-confidence bank, which means everything, right? The more you can do that, the more you can overcome the fear and the self-doubt and the imposter syndrome and all of that too
00:29:15
Speaker
And every time that you don't keep a promise to yourself, then you are robbing and taking from your self-confidence and your self-trust bank. Absolutely. It's actually directly related to your mindset, your daily habits and routines and your rituals.
00:29:30
Speaker
I love that you brought that up. Let's talk about emotional intelligence, managing your stress, handling clients with care and navigating difficult conversations.
00:29:41
Speaker
It's also a foundational thing. Yeah, I'm no master of it. I think that it's something I'm learning how to do as well as manage a lot of my emotional intelligence.
00:29:52
Speaker
But You know, learning to... You are the master at this. Thank you. I don't know what you're talking about. managing stress is hard. Handling clients and so with care...
00:30:08
Speaker
i I wouldn't say I struggle with that, but I do think that a lot of people do struggle with that. I'm navigating difficult conversations. Nobody wants to do that ever. So I don't know, but mastering your emotional intelligence, I believe comes down to awareness.
00:30:24
Speaker
Yeah. Just your awareness of not just your own emotions, but other people's emotions too, and how, what you do, what you say, how you're talking to people, you know, being aware of how people are going to receive and perceive you. That's how you handle clients with care and have those difficult conversations to you. i mean, I think um that's how I feel about emotional intelligence. It's a lot of awareness.
00:30:54
Speaker
Absolutely. It is a lot of awareness and realizing that as a beauty professional, that the way you present yourself, the way you have these conversations, the way you show up really does matter. It's going to matter in um sustaining long-term relationships with your clients. I also though feel like emotional intelligence is directly related to your ability to um to regulate your own nervous system and understanding how you tick.
00:31:24
Speaker
This is also something that took me most of my life to understand and being able to Have some tools in your tool belt to regulate your own nervous system. So, you know, when we, when our lids get flipped, whether it's personally or professionally, it happens daily, of course.
00:31:44
Speaker
understanding like how we need to just bring it back down and regulate our nervous system before we go into having those difficult conversations or before those client interactions especially when our personal stuff does filter into our professional side it's it gets really hard and it gets really sticky right we all have personal stuff that comes up and so our lids can get flipped maybe when we are in the treatment room we're about to go in with a client And that energy can get transferred. And we absolutely don't want that. So I think just understanding how your own nervous system needs to be regulated, getting some tools in there so that you can like literally close your lid and then go into say the treatment. Or I also directly relate it to like, say the hard conversation part. If you're not a very good communicator in your personal life, it's going to be
00:32:38
Speaker
10 times harder to be a good communicator in your professional life. And we're all going to have ah instances where we need to have a difficult conversation with a client or maybe ah teammate or our boss or whatever it might be.
00:32:52
Speaker
And so if we can't say like communicate to our spouse or if we can't, you know, feel like we can um communicate our feelings to say our family or whatever it is, right?
00:33:03
Speaker
Then how are you going to be able to show up and have a difficult conversation with a client or your boss or whatever that is? You're not. And then that's going to snowball and that's going to lead to more problems for sure. So this is really layered. There's a lot here to unpack, but I think and my best advice to for anybody listening that maybe doesn't know how to regulate their nervous system is to really figure out if you're like a fight, flight, or freeze type of person, and then go to Google or chat GPT and they will tell you all you need to know about some tools to regulate whichever type you are.
00:33:43
Speaker
I love that. Yeah. We could do a whole episode about that. Because it's, it's so much um your healing process to like these things that are coming up in your professional life and the way that you are react to things.
00:33:59
Speaker
When I'm in the middle of a difficult conversation, I'm like, Oh, this is why I'm reacting the way that I am. Right. Or this is why I struggle in this professional relationship with this person.
00:34:10
Speaker
yeah, I'm like, oh, tying that back to my childhood. You know, as you do that healing work, to be really honest with you, when you can get that deep, like Tiffany and I have gone back to our core, core wounds in childhood and our therapy.
00:34:26
Speaker
And it's so interesting when you're able to do that, you get into situations where you're triggered and you're like, oh, this is why I'm reacting this way. Okay, got it. And so that's also why I keep saying just awareness. Like if you can be aware of why you react the way that you do and your awareness of how you do or do not process emotions, you know, very well, like when you can just bring that attention to it and then knowing your trauma responses, like Tiffany is saying, that's really life-changing too. And it's usually really simple of first, just bring the awareness to it.
00:35:08
Speaker
Take some deep breaths. We even taught you a couple of really important breathing techniques in the previous episode. And for me, meditation is Huge, especially lately as I have gotten back into meditation and just coming back to my own inner stillness and neutrality.
00:35:26
Speaker
I can get really good at just stepping into that in an instant and and having those types of daily practices and habits will will help you a lot. So also the emotional intelligence aspect can go back to the daily routine, the self-care, all of those can get really tied in together too.
00:35:49
Speaker
actually all connected. So the let's talk about the law of attraction though, really quick. Your energy attracts clients, opportunities, and success. And so it's important to ask yourself, what vibe are you putting out there to attract exactly what you want? And I'm going to add this. Do you know exactly what you want?
00:36:08
Speaker
That's something that we dive into a lot in our conversations too with our coaching clients is like, okay, well, they say they're wanting these things. And then we ask them specifically, well, like, what type of client do you want? Or what type of schedule do you want? Or what type of career do you want? You know, what type of financial status do you want?
00:36:24
Speaker
And then they're like, oh, I don't really know. Right. So yeah. like yeah go ahead. Well, the law of attraction, you're, you really want to Be paying attention to your vibration and the message that you are putting out there about yourself.
00:36:45
Speaker
And again, I think that's a whole other episode that would be really fun to do. And it comes down to, you know, why Tiffany and I are always talking more about alignment over hustle.
00:36:57
Speaker
It's really all about the law of attraction, getting really, really clear on what you want. And then tying in the emotional awareness, the daily habits, you know, all of these things so that we're actually very lined up with who is going to be attracted to us. That also includes your marketing and, you know, your social media content pillars. the And so the law of attraction and the daily habits and the emotional awareness and the clarity of what you want, ah even those all just end up going really hand in hand. But I do think, you know, it's important to do a self audit.
00:37:37
Speaker
And go back through your social media, into your treatment room, go to your website, you know, anything that is directly related to your business and the message that you're putting out there and look at it and view it as if you were your dream client.
00:37:56
Speaker
ah So that you can, you know, audit that and make sure if you need to adjust your vibe and the message that you're putting and out there and the way that you're marketing and whatnot, that you can redo that.
00:38:09
Speaker
That actually would be a really good episode because that came up in a really important conversation for me last Friday. And I was like, oh wait a second. Nope, we're not doing intro special. Nope, nope, we're not doing that. I actually just wrote it

Continuous Learning and Industry Trends

00:38:23
Speaker
down. i think that's what we tried to record next time because that I have a lot of thoughts and um and it is something that comes up a lot. We talk about it a lot.
00:38:33
Speaker
But like you said, that vibe, and you want to make sure when you do that audit that you're definitely showing up authentically to who you are, and that it's really streamlined across the board on all your different channels and ways that you show up.
00:38:45
Speaker
And so you want however you present yourself in your business and your brand wants to be very true to you and your team and your values and your mission.
00:38:56
Speaker
And so that you know, When your clients do book with you, then they show up to see it, have a treatment where you that it's a very like, oh, this is exactly what I signed up for.
00:39:07
Speaker
You're exactly who you are. And how you presented yourself through all of your channels, right? I'm actually really excited for that next episode. like I actually have to stop myself right now.
00:39:19
Speaker
I know. Because I'm boiling over with the things that I want to say about myself. Stay tuned. So from today, when you guys hear this, we're going to have an episode about this and we're here for it. Exactly. We have lots to talk about.
00:39:37
Speaker
Okay, let's talk about our career growth, though. The professional work that drives success. So first things first, your skill mastery, the importance of ongoing education and staying ahead of industry trends.
00:39:50
Speaker
This is always something that we should prioritize in our career because like Jess said in the beginning, the beauty industry is ever evolving and ever changing and to stay, i think, relevant and stay active successful and skillful and talented, we have to continue to pour back into our education.
00:40:11
Speaker
And for the aesthetics out there, our education is so short lived. Anyways, like it's a crash course, we don't get a lot in aesthetic school anyways, in most states.
00:40:24
Speaker
And so you guys know, you know, that it's like, you learn your basics and you get licensed in aesthetic school and then you're out on your own and you kind of have to learn it a lot of it anyways.
00:40:35
Speaker
Um, but I think though our whole point here is to not get complacent because that's where we see a lot of stuck energy and a lot of, um, just estheticians just kind of just get comfy and then they wonder why they're not growing.
00:40:50
Speaker
Yeah. Well, you get comfy or you get the words not coming to me, but you, you have no humility. You think that you know things. And so you can just start doing all the things, or i don't know, it it could be a whole other episode. And it's a conversation I actually had recently with one of my very good friends, who's um the owner of the best school in the state of Idaho. And she's like,
00:41:16
Speaker
you have to know that you need to, you know, it is a crash course and that's just state laws. I mean, most states are only 600 hours. It still blows my mind.
00:41:28
Speaker
i went to school for 1200 hours and I'm still, and like, man, there is so much more to know. and so you have to have that discipline and drive to, you keep up with your education, go to the shows, you know, read the magazine so that you know what's going on, tackle and, you know, kind of track down where continuing education is at. If you're in Idaho, we obviously recommend one of our our besties and our, gosh, I just love Marty so much. The more that I get to know her and her team, you know, her um her continuing education is just incredible. But you know, kind of nailing down and tracking down where you can get stuff like that, I think is really important.

Leadership and Branding in the Beauty Industry

00:42:14
Speaker
Absolutely. And always just being in that willing to be a ah learner. i think just that mindset itself, whether actually this goes hand in hand with your personal growth as well, just understanding that we as humans are here on this earth to learn. I actually had this conversation with my 11 year old last night. He was, you know, just like, Oh, I'm so tired of school and this and that. And I was like, bud,
00:42:38
Speaker
Like you're in fifth grade school doesn't end when you graduate high school. And we had this whole conversation, like we are here to continue to grow and learn. And even when you're adult, it's not over. I hope it will never be over for you. I hope you can adopt that mindset.
00:42:56
Speaker
And even when you're in your career and done with school, you will learn all the time. Cause that's the point. That's why we're here. Right. And so bringing in that professional growth and like having that mindset of whether it's like you are a reader or a podcast listener or attending classes or, you know, there's so many different, different avenues that you can learn from. So they really do go hand in hand as well. But just, I think that mindset for one, I'm just like never feeling like you're done, never feeling like, you know, it all.
00:43:31
Speaker
that you are always willing to be a learner. You're always willing to be a beginner at something. It actually is so valuable to learn a new skill as an adult, because it really does.
00:43:43
Speaker
I don't know. It really does like turn the wheels of motion, gets you out of that stuck energy, gets you out of the mud and the muck by being like, okay, going learn a new skill. Even if it's like learning, I don't know, if the guitar when you're 50 years old, it's something you've always wanted to do.
00:43:59
Speaker
find a way. Yeah. Yeah, it's just expensive. But plus I love your kids so much. I can just imagine the conversation. and it's also May. They're like, yeah, ready to just and yeah and that's hard you know what I was thinking I was like well he pray he just wants to play you know like he just wants I'm like so do I like that doesn't stop her no but I think it does go back to your daily routines and your habits and your rituals too like okay we're gonna work hard so that we can play hard kind of the whole point that's like like I'm gonna work my ass off so that I can enjoy time with my family and so I don't have to feel like I have to be in my businesses 24 7 like
00:44:42
Speaker
It really is like this beautiful um harmony of like, okay, we're going to dedicate this time so that we can have this over here without feeling the guilt or the pull or the overwhelm or whatever it is.
00:44:56
Speaker
Yeah, no, 100%. The next one is business acumen or understanding marketing, branding, and financial management. And I have to say as a beauty professional, this is where we do you kind of struggle the most is with the financial management aspect. I think a lot of us really love learning the marketing and the branding.
00:45:18
Speaker
i personally think you are one of the most well-branded people that I've ever worked with. I love that that is one of your strengths and I've learned so much just from stepping back and observing you has been and really incredible. But those are the types of things too, that in addition to just learning, you know, the skills of being a beauty professional and what's involved in that learning more about your marketing and your branding,
00:45:43
Speaker
And, yeah and the financial management i'm is still a piece that, you know, I'm definitely ah working on and a huge goal of mine. I'm like, I, I cannot level up until I learn how to we like, keep all that organized and manage it a little bit better. and so those are the types of skills to the business acumen type skills that as a beauty professional, you want to,
00:46:11
Speaker
dive into, um, in addition to just learning those skills will take you a really long way, especially if you want to be solo. Oh, for sure. and yeah, yeah. You kind have to have somebody that can show you the ropes or tell you exactly like what you need to look at and how to do it.
00:46:29
Speaker
And honestly, like, finding those sources is actually not the hard part. It's adopting the mindset of like, okay, I actually need to focus on this and be willing to work it on, work on it. And then the how will show itself.
00:46:44
Speaker
You'll magically come across someone on Instagram who actually teaches the exact specific thing that you're wanting to learn, or, you know, you'll, it will it will appear once you're ready and willing to look at it. I promise you that. So if there's things in your business that you're just like, oh, I don't understand it and I don't know how and I just am ah unwilling to look at it, then it will continue to be an issue for you and you will never be able to get over that hump fully until you're willing to. So the how will show itself. Don't overstress that. And if you ever need resources, just that's to what we're here for. Shoot us a DM and we'll we'll point you in a direction for sure. Definitely.
00:47:23
Speaker
Next is stepping into leadership, whether you want to own a business, train others or expand your career, leadership skills are key and they are some of the hardest skills to learn. Absolutely. It's, um you know, I think that in we're all meant to be leaders in some way or another.
00:47:42
Speaker
And I think that when we're willing, we can be some sort of leader every single day, even as like, say, a solo esthetician, of course, you're a leader, you're a leader for your clients.
00:47:54
Speaker
And you're, so when we like adopt that mindset to beautiful things can happen, and we can really learn how to step into those roles. um But it really, really is leadership is just something that It's so, so important and it can be really hard, but it's really beautiful as well.
00:48:15
Speaker
Well, you were the first one who really expanded my mindset that way, where I, for a while was like, I'm just not a good leader. I don't like people working for me. i don't want to manage people.
00:48:26
Speaker
have such a hard time with that. And you were like, um, that doesn't make you. not a leader. You're a leader in a completely different type of way. And that's, I think, a really beautiful notion to really share with our listeners. I'm so glad that you said that in the way that you did. We are all leaders in some um way. We are all truly, if you think about it, every single one of us is in a position of influence in some way. And that is being a leader.
00:49:00
Speaker
You know, are you, you're, it can be with your clients. It can be with your followers. It can be with your family. It can be, a you know, it just, ah it doesn't mean one thing.
00:49:13
Speaker
And so thank you for saying it the way that you did and for also helping me to see it that way has been a game changer. Yeah. I think it it really does take all kinds. If there, if we only had like one or two types of leaders in this world, that would be terrible.
00:49:28
Speaker
Right. Um, but it really is true. And so I think it's really important again, like to audit yourself and ask yourself, like, what type of leader do you want to be taking ownership in that in a really positive way? Like, okay, I am a leader. I am like owning that energy of, okay, I am a leader for my clients.
00:49:49
Speaker
How it really does change everything on how you show up and how you want to lead your clients and the way you present yourself and the client interactions you have and the way you, um,
00:50:00
Speaker
perform your services and treatments. And it really can trickle into this beautiful, beautiful becoming in your career. And it's just very, very powerful. So own it If my best advice is to own it and navigate it and, and always ask yourself, like, am I being the leader that I want to be?
00:50:18
Speaker
And, or am I falling short of that? And then going back to, okay, why am I falling short of that? Maybe your daily routines and your habits are not Sticking maybe you're you know, it's really, it really is all connected.
00:50:30
Speaker
So I really liked that conversation a lot. p yes how one impacts the other. So confidence when you work on personal growth, and you ah show up more confidently in your business, which attracts better clients, resilience, personal growth helps you navigate setbacks, which are inevitable in any career.
00:50:55
Speaker
vision and clarity, the more you know yourself, the clearer you become on the direction of your career, even if you, cause we change paths a lot too. I mean, you and i are really good examples of that where, you know, we start doing one thing and then we morph and we grow into another thing. And then that opens up another thing. And that's actually what I really love about this industry too, is that the opportunities are endless and it continues to be that way, you know? um And that's really awesome.
00:51:29
Speaker
And so
00:51:33
Speaker
even when you're going through that type of a career transformation, you're like, well, i was solo and now I'm going, you know, this direction.

Balancing Personal Growth and Career Demands

00:51:41
Speaker
um Having all of this in your corner is going to help you make those types of decisions and take those types of risks.
00:51:51
Speaker
Wow, we just had this conversation. I was just thinking of this. This is out of my mouth. I'm like, this sounds familiar. This is a long, like eight minute voice note that I left.
00:52:05
Speaker
But it's true. It's so true. Literally, you have... you know, the confidence and the resilience in you, you have the humility and you're open and you have the self growth and, and then you have the vision. It just gives you the clarity. It makes making these decisions and making these moves so much easier.
00:52:25
Speaker
It's like this internal guidance system. Oh, absolutely. And then you're like, okay, this makes sense. I maybe can't explain it. I maybe it doesn't make sense. It probably doesn't make sense to anyone else. And that's okay. As long as it, you know, it feels right to you. And you're just like, okay, I'm just as because kind of like, there's been times in my life where I'm just like, do big, scary things. And I feel like I'm not even driving the car.
00:52:49
Speaker
feels like somebody else is leading me. That's when I'm just like, and then it just happens. And then I kind of look back. i'm like, how on earth did that happen? How did I make that work? actually don't think I did. I think I was just like here and it was flowing through me and I was just continuing to show up.
00:53:05
Speaker
I feel like that's my whole life. Yeah. And that's why I sent you that message that day too, is because I've lived my whole life that way. And it's so beautiful. um to just allow that to happen when you just know these things, you have this vision and you have the resilience and the strength and the confidence to allow the universe to just take over and, you know, take the wheel and okay, like whatever you want me to do and whatever needs to happen, you know, to put me in that place where you need me and where you want me. That's a really cool place to be.
00:53:39
Speaker
Absolutely. The next is work-life balance, prioritizing personal growth ensures you don't burn out while chasing success. Well, yes, we really believe a lot in the work-life harmony, and if you want to call it that, where we're just really present in each of those places and making sure that we are pouring into you know the personal side of things so that we can actually pour from an empty cup, right? We have to take that personal time so that we can fill our own cup and be able to serve other people fully. And that is the fastest way to lead to burnout is that we aren't taking time to ourselves.
00:54:22
Speaker
And then, you know, we're just pouring from an empty cup all the time. And pretty soon you just resent your career or you resent your home life or, you know, so having harmony between the two and making sure that you are doing nice things for yourself and understanding that self-care is the opposite of selfish. I cannot up for people when I am completely depleted.
00:54:46
Speaker
We actually are the first to put ourselves on the back burner. When life gets hectic or chaotic or crazy like it does, because life happens and we're running this business and then maybe we have kids or a family and there's a lot of personal things going on.
00:55:01
Speaker
We're just like, it's just, I think a default that's built into us, especially as women. We just they are like, okay, I'm going to go back here because I have to do, I have to get these done. I don't have a choice. And you actually just shared about this over the weekend on your social media. I'm so glad you did. And like, can't reiterate that enough. You cannot pour from an empty cup. And so it is so, so, so important to prioritize your own self-care to make time for it consistently, however that looks for you and to stick to it.
00:55:32
Speaker
And it's really, and like have some really hard boundaries around that. Um, So that you can show up for the people that you love and you can show up for your business and you can show up. And it really is how you can avoid burnout because when we are fulfilled personally and internally and spiritually and all of those things, and it's just like, it makes it so easy to show up for everyone else.
00:55:56
Speaker
It makes it really, really hard to show for everybody else. So when we are depleted, we all can probably attest to that. I know everyone listening can. Yeah, definitely. So our favorite way to close this out is with action steps to grow personally and professionally.
00:56:13
Speaker
The first one is daily personal development practices. So this is something that we discuss a lot in our groups. Again, this is where we start reading, journaling, meditation, and mindset work.
00:56:25
Speaker
Not necessarily all of them at the same time. If this isn't something that you're used to doing, we recommend starting with waking up 10 to 15 minutes earlier until you're ready to start waking up, you know, maybe an hour earlier. And that's a conversation for a different day.
00:56:43
Speaker
But we want to create the time or yes, the time also the space to allow you to do these things. And for a lot of people, that means audible, that means podcasts, right? Where maybe they don't have yet so or, you know, whatever, you know, 15 minutes to read every day, but they can listen to something really uplifting while they're getting ready for work or when they're on their drive or for me, whenever i'm
00:57:16
Speaker
re-implementing meditation into my life, it starts with just five minutes, you know, five minutes of closing my eyes and taking deep breaths and recognizing all of these thoughts that I'm having that really don't need to be there.
00:57:32
Speaker
Also another conversation for another day, but i would say starting with just figuring out how to make space in your life. for these things little by little and taking the baby steps versus just thinking you're going to dive in and do all these things starting 4 a.m. tomorrow morning and little bit more gradual and figure out how to create that space.
00:57:54
Speaker
And if I can add like your it's best if you can try and fit that space in in your morning routine because it's so easy for our days to get hijacked the rest of the day.
00:58:06
Speaker
And once we're kind of on, you know, kids and the the rest of the family's up or your spouse and then it's off to work and then clients and then this and then that. And it's just like, and then you like fall into bed at night and you're like, holy cow, where did my day

Networking and Support Systems

00:58:19
Speaker
go? So if you can really try to just set your alarm for 15 minutes early and try to get up before the rest of your house wakes up and just have that alone time and try and fit that in into your morning routine, it really can make such a big difference. But yeah, I agree. Baby steps are the way to go. It'll be much less overwhelming. Yeah.
00:58:37
Speaker
ah Next is continuous education, committing to learning, whether it's business, marketing, or new treatment techniques. How we've coached people to do this is to pick. I actually don't even recommend doing this weekly necessarily. i think you're going to be really disappointed if you try to make time for this every week, but have a day during your month or two days, maybe biweekly where you do have a couple of hours set aside on your schedule or whatever.
00:59:06
Speaker
you know, maybe try an hour per week. I know one, one way that we have coached one person in particular, that's coming to mind for me, as I think we said every Thursday from this time to this time, let's set that aside for learning. But if anything else does come up, not a client, not booking your facial, no, but if anything else has come up during that time, that's okay.
00:59:29
Speaker
You know, but we do want to make sure that it's always held for you. And that we do commit to upholding that like twice per month, at least. So ah we, we basically at the end of the day, all that being said, want this to be on your schedule.
00:59:46
Speaker
Yeah. So fit it in how it works for you. But like you, like Jess said, actually put it on your schedule, block out that time, dedicate that time to it. And then it does get easy to fit it in. You're like, Oh, I have this on, you know,
00:59:59
Speaker
Saturday morning, my whole morning is blocked out and i have nothing else. And so it's like, okay, I I'm going to get to this continuing education that's been on my plate for months or even maybe years. We, I've talked to some people that been wanting to do this for years.
01:00:14
Speaker
And it really can be as simple as just putting it on your schedule and then putting some boundaries around it. Like Jess said. Definitely. Next is literally probably the most important. And that is surrounding yourself with growth minded people.
01:00:27
Speaker
Find mentors, join mastermind groups, and network with those who inspire you. i didn't even write that. Wow, that's amazing that that's on here. It's so key. though I mean, there's nothing more important. You will emulate the the five people that you spend the most time with. that You have to be so mindful of the type of people that you're hanging around and that you're talking to. It's the same reason why I will continue to say Facebook's not the place. Facebook groups are not the place to be getting business advice from people. They're so toxic. Even skincare advice. I'm like, you just get a million different answers <unk> and that is just wild. We really encourage you to find your own people that you really look up to in the industry.
01:01:16
Speaker
um There are so many people that set really amazing examples that you can just watch and learn from. or, you know, join mastermind groups.
01:01:26
Speaker
You know, I've told people, we've told people like create your own, find a few estheticians in your area and you guys meet for coffee. be the leader. Just once per month. I mean, there's a million ways that you can do this, but just be really, really conscious of who you're getting advice from, who you're surrounding yourself with. Are they positive? Are they growing?
01:01:51
Speaker
How do you feel when you're around these people? Yeah. Cause if you have people in your ear, all constantly telling you like, Oh, that's unrealistic or, Oh, you're like, you're never going to do that. Even if it's in a nice, seemingly like kind way, then of course you're going to start to believe that. And really like, it's just an energetic vibe. And I, I find myself gravitating towards people who are like,
01:02:17
Speaker
ah just ahead of me of where I would like to go or kind of what I would like to achieve. I really like to latch on others who have kind of created a little ah clear pathway of how I want to get there.
01:02:30
Speaker
and And, and it's just very, very inspiring. And so this is actually like, such a valid point. I'm really glad it's in here too. Because it can make such a difference in your life, even if it's somebody you follow on social media, you know, but I love the idea of of there's no one in your area, because a lot of estheticians, it is, it can be so lonely. i think entrepreneurship in general is so lonely, but as a solo esthetician, you feel really, really lonely.
01:02:59
Speaker
Create the space yourself. I know there's probably people in your area that you can, you probably know or have heard of, and maybe you don't really know where you stand. Be the leader in that space and be like, let's meet for coffee once a month and just talk because it really can create this beautiful open space in this connection in this little community that can be so powerful.

Setting Personal and Professional Goals

01:03:21
Speaker
Absolutely. And that's why our mastermind groups and our coaching have just blown up too, is that we even, there's this one of our favorite, they're all our favorite, but we've been working with a woman in Canada for a while. And she is like, I just want to get on a call with you guys once a month. It's like all I want. yeah She's like, I don't even care what we talk about anymore.
01:03:45
Speaker
want to spend time with you guys because it feels so good. So I do really think that that is important. And we do have our coaching. We do have our masterminds. And so you can get on waiting lists for that too.
01:03:57
Speaker
Absolutely. um Setting goals in both areas. What's one personal growth goal and one career goal you want to work on?
01:04:09
Speaker
oh is she asking us? Well, I think she's asking all of us. You and I could include it. And our community. um spreading aura way to go laurara um ra p to you yeah But i think that is really, really important. So if you can, I think we should challenge ourselves and our listeners to set a goal and set one personal growth goal and one career goal that you want to work on.
01:04:39
Speaker
Jess and I will do this too. And actually maybe this is how we'll, we'll lead our next conversation. um, podcast. ah We'll, we'll share that in a couple of weeks with you guys, but we would love to hear it from you too. So, uh, we're going to challenge you to set those goals for yourself. And then we would love, love, love to hear them. So just share it to your social media and tag at beyond at what is our handle now at the beyond aesthetic.
01:05:03

Conclusion and Listener Engagement

01:05:13
Speaker
we see it. And then we'll give you a shout out on the next episode as well. We would love to to hear that from you guys.
01:05:20
Speaker
Okay. Let's close this out. If you don't want to put it out there and you want to just say, Hey, I just listened to your episode and here's my goals.
01:05:31
Speaker
We will. root for you and be in your corner on those goals. And, and it's nice sometimes to just share that even with one person so that you have some accountability, especially one person that will believe in you.
01:05:46
Speaker
And like, that's definitely Jess and I, like we believe anything is possible. Your goals Your goals should scare you a little bit and feel a little bit unreachable. That's like, I think the magic in setting a goal.
01:05:59
Speaker
And so, yeah, we would love, love any way you want to send it, send us to our DMS so that we can root for you. and I think putting it into existence is just like so powerful.
01:06:11
Speaker
Definitely. and love it. All right, so closing thought, your career can only grow as much as you do. If you feel stuck professionally, it might be time to look inward and start working on yourself and your business will follow.
