00:00:38
Speaker
i am your host today. My name is Jessica Peterson, and I am a co-host today. And co-owner of the beyond aesthetics. And I'm not going to be joined by my other half today. I am actually just going to be bringing you guys a solo episode.
00:00:55
Speaker
And, um, this is going to help us to actually get back on track. Now that the holidays are over, we're going to be resuming our normal schedule. So as you're listening to this podcast today, I'm recording this on Sunday on January 4th in the evening. So you're going to be hearing this, or I should say I'm releasing this Monday morning of January fifth And we're going to be releasing another episode the following Monday. so we're going to be doing two Mondays in a row. So happy new year. That's going to be a gift to you guys is getting back on schedule so that you're not guessing when we are releasing and we're going to be releasing two valuable and exciting episodes.
00:01:47
Speaker
Tiffany and I are getting ready to record this week. We're working on putting together our episode right now, and it's going to be a bit of a follow-up to our episode where we talked about the nine-year and the year of the snake, the shedding and rising of estheticians that was basically more of a year-end sort of a conversation And so what we'll be releasing next Monday is going to be our one year and year of the fire horse and moving into this new year. And we're really excited to get that episode wrapped up and aired for you guys. And we just know it's going to be a really powerful episode.
00:02:37
Speaker
Today, i was so excited to hang out with you guys because i feel incredible. i feel better than I felt in a really long time. And I wanna share with you why so that i can help you guys to feel how I'm feeling, especially going into a new year. So I'm not going to introduce that subject for a hot minute. I have a few more things that I want to talk about.
00:03:09
Speaker
So I'm feeling really good. It's a Sunday evening. i love a good Sunday. i love the weekend, but I also love a good Monday. i really love it all. I think, I don't know, every day just sort of carries its own really powerful energy if you allow it. But I think also just coming out of the holiday season, I hope that you feel good I do. I hope that you feel really good. I hope you had an amazing holiday season.
00:03:40
Speaker
I have some holiday blues a little bit. i yeah went to the grocery store the other night I think I walked in expecting to be able to like pick up my peppermint mocha coffee creamer and that stuff's all gone. And my heart sank just a little bit, but I'm leaning into that.
00:04:01
Speaker
I'm just leaning into that post holiday coziness still and a little bit of those blues that it's wrapped up, you know, the year is wrapped up, the holidays are wrapped up and we are moving forward.
00:04:14
Speaker
I do want to carry that energy with me. The spirit of the holidays is just so peaceful. And um I'm really feeling that right now and I'm still feeling that. And I want to continue feeling that for as long as possible, preferably um all year, which is something I'm going to and be talking about today.
00:04:37
Speaker
So I do. I hope that you had an amazing holiday season. However you celebrate you know Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, all those, whatever it is that you celebrate, I think that it's undeniable that there's just a really special spirit this season.
00:04:52
Speaker
And I also hope that you're looking forward to the new year. Everybody sort of feels differently about... when and how they do their reflections. I know a lot of people that kind of wait until the Chinese new year, which I want to say is February 17th. And a lot of people like to wait until spring and they're still just sort of in that cozy wintering reflective energy.
00:05:19
Speaker
I mark the new year with the, are we called, is this the Gregorian calendar? That's like January 1st. I don't remember what we're referring to that as, but I, I actually do wrap up the year and say goodbye at midnight. and So 1159 the later.
00:05:42
Speaker
ah like see a later I don't really say it like that. I actually am going to share with you guys. i I have a very intentional ritual and experience that I go through. New Year's, I've had a tradition of doing this for quite some time. And I really want to share my experience this year.
00:06:04
Speaker
And I'm not going to do that yet. Absolutely. So I'm going to share that with you just a little bit because that experience is actually going to lead into the the subject of the episode today, which to be really honest with you, this is very likely one of the most valuable episodes that I could ever share with you.
00:06:21
Speaker
i really mean that. This is literally going to be an episode that will change your life faster than anything else if you lean into it. If you lean into it, I know it with 100% certainty that I can change your life today. And it's actually not that hard and it's going to feel absolutely incredible.
00:06:43
Speaker
You're going to stay tuned for that. Okay. I'm going to get into it and I can't wait. It's been on my mind for a while. I've been thinking about this episode all day long, but give me just a second. Okay. first I want to introduce you to the pod. If you are new here, welcome to the Beyond Aesthetics podcast. We are a very supportive, loving community that just believes and sees through an experience that as a beauty professional, as an esthetician, we thrive in community. We thrive in networking. We thrive in being better beauty professionals through personal and professional and spiritual growth.
00:07:29
Speaker
And i think I need to introduce myself and give you a little bit of background. So for those of you who are new here, or if you haven't listened from the beginning, if you don't know who I am and where I come from, Since I'm solo today, I'm going to take some time and give you guys just a little bit of my background because that's going to explain where this podcast came from and why this is an aesthetics podcast that doesn't talk about skincare. Not that we never would. We're actually always open to that. We just talked about it the other day.
00:08:06
Speaker
Um, but this is really a podcast dedicated to the inner world of beauty professionals. Okay. And there is a very, very good reason for that. So I'm going to give you a little bit of my background because actually I've realized recently, hold on, you know what? I got to crack this open real quick. Cause I'm super thirsty.
00:08:25
Speaker
This is a really interesting drink. If you're watching this, i'm going to show it to you. It's called Hiyo. I don't actually know if that's how you pronounce it, but it's spelled H-I-Y-O. H-I-Y-O.
00:08:38
Speaker
h i y o that I think I got it at Whole Foods, but please don't quote me on that. But basically, this is um for it's nootropic, so it actually works with your brain. There's no caffeine in here. It's just a bunch of like a goodness that makes you feel really good and mentally stimulated without feeling like you just took some Adderall, which no shame, I take Adderall all the time, ah diagnosed. I mean I'm very medicated most of the time. And I have no shame. And you should not have any shame in that either. I've been medicated since I was 18 and I'm turning 40 this year and medication changed my life. So no shame in that. But this is a different feeling. Nootropics are a very different feeling. It's a little bit like...
00:09:21
Speaker
Uh, matcha. So those of you who drink coffee know that that feels completely different than drinking matcha because matcha is really rich in L-theanine. It gives you mental clarity without being like jittery and crazy and then getting a crash. There's still caffeine. Don't get me wrong. It's, it's less than coffee, but there's just a little bit of a different feeling. So this is just a drink that's going to give you a little bit of that like flowy, you know, good energy, sort of a feeling, some good mental cognition, but it's caffeine free. So let me just take a quick sip here. This one's passion fruit and tangerine delicious.
00:09:57
Speaker
And I have my water and have my water. I drink about a gallon of water a day. I'm only on Probably 70 ounces so far. So I'm going to be up in the middle of the night for sure because it's like 6 o'clock and I still have a lot of water to go. Okay.
00:10:15
Speaker
So I want to introduce myself and a little bit of my background because... Again, it's going to give you a ah feeling for what this podcast and what our coaching is really all about. um And at the same time, like I said, I just realized something.
00:10:30
Speaker
This past week, I realized that next month I'll be celebrating 21 years, I believe, 21 or 22 years as an esthetician. So let me do some math. I think it's 22. Holy crap. 22 of being in aesthetics. That's just, wow.
00:10:49
Speaker
Thank you. It is just wow. It's the best decision that I made for my life. And I've done so many different things in my career. So I'm a master esthetician from Utah. went to school at the Skin Institute in Southern Utah, in St. George, Utah.
00:11:07
Speaker
And i had so I had a fantastic schooling experience. I always, you know, no school's perfect. If you're a student listening to this, and if you've started a conversation with me about schooling, there's really no school that is completely perfect. ah Every experience experience is really different. And you learn most of what you learn when you're outside of school anyways. But I am really grateful. i had a fantastic experience. I really, truly feel that I was set up for success. And and I'm so, so beyond grateful for my schooling experience.
00:11:43
Speaker
So I actually started out in the resort industry in Nevada and I loved it. I'd go back to it. would go back to it for so many different reasons. It was such a beautiful experience meeting people from all over.
00:11:58
Speaker
Most of my clients came from the Las Vegas area, California. I had a lot of clients from Canada actually. And I was there for about seven years and it was such a great experience. That's definitely how I mastered facial massage, which if you guys don't know, i specialize in facial massage and I just need on my coaching page to post more about that. On my Eminence Instagram, you'll see a lot of facial massage, but that was really what I mastered in the treatment room was like facial massage, the facial experience, and putting together skincare routines and retail sales. And
00:12:33
Speaker
And client relationships, it was such an interesting experience for me that I didn't, you know, by the time I left at about the seven-year mark, I actually had about a 50% recurring clientele, which at a resort is not normal. But these people... You know, they were coming every, well, I had a lot of locals, first of all.
00:12:56
Speaker
um And then people who would come and just see me every year. were like, this is the best facial experience that I've ever had. And so they would come see me every time they were in town, which was, for some people, it was every quarter. You know, they had a second home in the area. For a lot of people, it was every six months. For a lot of people, it was once a year And so that was a really good experience. I feel like I really learned a lot about that client relationship and how important that was. Obviously, at a resort, there was a lot of things that were out of my hands, you know, that we that we talk a lot more about today when it comes to the client relationship. But But I thought that that was really cool and I really loved it. it was It was very difficult to walk away from that experience because the treatment room for me was definitely an escape. I could just pour my heart and soul into the treatment and I loved it. I enjoyed it. I never dreaded going to work, which is a huge life value of mine. And that was really where I got to lean into my love for for treatments and for aesthetics. So
00:14:02
Speaker
From there, I mean, without going into too much of the backstory, I did become an instructor at the same time. So I had kind of worked my way up to being like ah the quote unquote lead esthetician. I was just kind of the one taking care of things ah the last couple of years that I was there because the lead esthetician had left and moved. And so i had taken over a lot of responsibilities and kind of worked my way up. And then at the same time, i had got an instructor position And i was doing both. And being an instructor was really what put me on the path that I'm on today as far as just wanting to pour myself into estheticians. And i will i do want everybody to know the amount of imposter syndrome that was going on at the same time. In fact, you know, what is so interesting is that even...
00:14:55
Speaker
Okay, so before I get ahead of myself, so imposter syndrome like crazy, when I was approached with the idea of becoming the knight and instructor at the school, i was like, i am I do not know a knot. Like, I cannot teach aesthetics. Are you kidding me?
00:15:13
Speaker
I did not believe that that was something that I could ever do. Not ever. But I did really need a second job. I had just gotten divorced and i was I was really tight financially. I was very uncomfortable. And so I really was open to a second job. um And i ended up getting the job and I fell in love with it. I fell in love with the the students. I fell in love with...
00:15:37
Speaker
Having the opportunity to create the curriculum that I was teaching and working with the school that way. I loved everybody that I work with. I love the students. And that is when I was like, wow, this is this is for me. This is a great path for me. I'm obsessed with what I'm doing. i truly just fell in love with that, which then sort of led me on this other interesting path Of all of the sudden, these reps that I was getting to know as I was working with different skincare lines in the spa, they would approach me. There was this one woman who approached me. She was an image rep in the area at that time. And she was like, let's go have coffee.
00:16:20
Speaker
And she literally was like, what are you doing? You know, we don't always, in fact, most of the time, I think we don't see our own potential. Right.
00:16:33
Speaker
naturally that's normal, right? I mean, it it usually takes somebody else saying something more than once, usually for us to come to these realizations. And she was the first one that sat me down. She like, what are you still doing here? You should be a rep like there. You could do bigger and better things if you wanted to. And I can't even remember how that conversation ever came about. i don't i don't remember that part, but I remember her saying those words to me. And I just remember thinking, I could never be a rep. I would never want to do that. It just seems you know so stressful. You know, we're here. She's like, you're the lead esthetician here. You're killing it. You know, you're amazing at retail sales. You have you know, this repeat clientele at a resort. That's not normal, you know, and you're a fantastic instructor. You know, you have the the background to do even bigger, better, greater things. And it was just another one of those moments of imposter syndrome. Yeah.
00:17:42
Speaker
And, ah time went on and I really did kind of let that sink in And so I remember interviewing at some point after that conversation with other companies, what I did is i I was in a place in my life to where I was really open to not staying where I was, which was hard. I loved my students and i loved my job at the resort Again, like I said, i had been through a divorce. At this point, it would have been just a couple of years prior to that.
00:18:13
Speaker
And I also felt like, you know, what's next? i I had really felt this pull for years that there was something different. There was something bigger for me out there. Not even, i don't even want to say better, but like there there's these things that I meant to do There's this other life that i meant to live. And you guys, even, i hate to say this, even when I was married, it would wake me up in the middle of the night.
00:18:41
Speaker
Like there is this other life that I'm supposed to be living. If you have ever felt like that, I see you. I see you. It's such an interesting experience. And I was very young when that was happening to me. And so, you know, now she had planted this seed and I was, I was in that place where I was like, I'm, I'm open, even though i i love this. I don't, I, I'm not stuck here either. Like I'm open to whatever life wants to, whatever direction I'm supposed to go. I'm i'm really open. And so I took my resume to the show in Las Vegas and I talked to a lot of different companies and I even got interviews and I had a couple job offers
00:19:21
Speaker
But I wanted to work for Eminence. I had started using it in the treatment room and there were just so many things about Eminence that clicked for me when it came to the education that they offered and the support that they offered their business partners. I loved the products. I loved the experience in the treatment room. I loved how easy it was to sell.
00:19:41
Speaker
And because I also loved teaching and guiding estheticians, I was like, this would be such a good fit. Like this would be such a great avenue. This is really... that's what I want. This would be the company that I would want to do that with. And so, um, eventually I i just remember I had a training with the rep at the time for, you know, a new line that they were coming out with a, cause that's literally what we do with evidence. We go around to our spa partners and we do education and we do trainings and we have business meetings with the owners. And I pulled her aside and I knew that she lived in Arizona
00:20:15
Speaker
And i was just having a normal conversation with her about just like, you know, I had been thinking about moving to Arizona. My brother was there doing his as a medical residency. said,
00:20:27
Speaker
um she said and knew like If you really do move down there, you know, let me know because i could use a trainer. I really could use help with my territory. And you guys, I took that and I ran with it. I was like, okay, that's not even in my back pocket. That's in my front pocket. Okay. Seed planted front pocket. Okay.
00:20:52
Speaker
next. So then what happened is I went down there to a regional that they were hosting and it was a great class, fantastic class.
00:21:02
Speaker
And then I actually was thinking at the time about going and getting a laser certification. So I went and met with the school who I was thinking about taking their program, but they found out that I was this great instructor and that I had a lot of experience in the field. And they were like, well, actually we want to hire you. I I was like, oh, okay. Well, that basically would give me a reason to relocate and to move down here, which would then put me in the position to take on the position that that rep had just talked to me about with Eminence. So I'm going to do that.
00:21:35
Speaker
And long story short, that's what ended up happening. So I relocated with literally... Gosh, I think I had two weeks to relocate before the position at the school started. And I was in conversation with the eminence rep at the time about my position with her. So it was a very, very short, fast timeframe that I had to now say goodbye to my life. Not that it wasn't in the works because it was, but I said goodbye. I packed up what I could and my little Honda Accord, the transmission was going out and I... moved down to Arizona. I didn't even have anywhere to live. i stayed with my brother for very short amount of time. He was like, i you're welcome to stay here for a limited amount of time. i like My cat was staying with my friend at the time and You know, everything worked out just like like it always does. And eventually, you know, I became the trainer for Eminence for Arizona, Colorado, and Nevada, New Mexico. i was working underneath of the rep. And that's when I started working deeper with estheticians. So that's when I kind of got thrown into this position of education.
00:22:39
Speaker
At the time, I wasn't doing a ton of business support, but I will tell you this. When I was working with... solo estheticians and obviously just all estheticians, but like really solo estheticians, was having these deeper conversations about their businesses, their struggles, what they wanted, their their experiences, right? and And I was having those experiences sometimes with the owners as well.
00:23:04
Speaker
And I literally started thinking to myself, like, why isn't there, they all have the same problems. You know, they're all, they're all having the same experiences. Why isn't there more support for them? Like, that's really interesting.
00:23:16
Speaker
What's even more interesting is that I kept telling other reps. I wasn't a rep. I was a trainer, right? but So I was telling the rep I was working for, was like, why don't you become a mentor? Like, why don't you just help these people more? Like, you know, all of it. Why don't you just help them? And she didn't want to, like, it just wasn't her calling, right? That wasn't, it wasn't her calling. But I was like, oh they need help. They need more support. And so, you know, I was in that position and for about four years.
00:23:43
Speaker
and i started thinking too i was like why isn't why isn't there also like some sort of ah ah bridge between school and work you know you graduate school and like then what there's just not a lot of support there so that had been on my mind for a very long time and when i moved to idaho then i had so then i got offered a and i went after and got offered a rep position myself so it was actually a promotion I came home to Idaho. In fact, I moved into my parents' basement at 30 years old with my cat and started my life completely over, you know, and took on this rep position here.
00:24:22
Speaker
um Again, i did go through more imposter syndrome with both of those scenarios with becoming the trainer, right? I did not just walk into that completely confident, like nothing could be further from the truth. I got thrown into that position. Not that I didn't want it, but there wasn't any onboarding. Like there was no training, I got thrown into it and I figured it out. And then becoming a rep myself, I had major imposter syndrome, which is crazy because the truth is the majority of the job I'd really been doing for the past four years on a very, very large scale all with hundreds of spas. I mean, that's...
00:24:55
Speaker
I think I was training for those four years, 200 different spas on a regular basis across four states, you know, and then for some reason I had this imposter syndrome about managing these like 20 spa partners in Idaho. And what was really cool is that I took on this territory and then literally that was um nine years ago this coming March.
00:25:18
Speaker
My official start date was April first of 2017 and just the next July, July of 2017, I was literally nominated for best in customer service and all imposter syndrome went out the window and a year later i won best, like number one in customer service and i was like, man, what is this imposter syndrome that we're carrying around with us all the time? you know But just so you guys know, I experienced that too. I've experienced it my whole career. i am actually going through just a tiny bit of that right now as well, if I'm being completely honest. So it's normal. It's okay. Let it go. Just do the thing anyways.
00:25:59
Speaker
Usually if there's a calling to do something, it's meant for you. And you really just want to kind of like learn to lean into that. And so long story short, now I'm working super, super closely with these business owners and these estheticians and really getting a feel for their needs. And again, just feeling like, why isn't there some support for you guys? Why isn't there just a little bit more, you know, for you?
00:26:25
Speaker
And also i have to say one thing that I've noticed about beauty professionals is, you know, let's say somebody approaches me with a struggle with retail sales.
00:26:37
Speaker
Well, I, I know that there's something deeper going on. I can teach you how to do it. I've got so many amazing systems that I teach,
00:26:48
Speaker
But I'm like, there's there's actually something else. Like there's actually something in your nervous system. There's probably some wounds, some rejection wounds. There's, you know, to me, what blocks us is always something deeper. There's always something deeper that we want to look into that's causing the block that we're experiencing now. And the two could be literally completely different related to things. They usually are like, it's probably not something that's happened to you in your career. It's probably something that happened to you earlier in life. Right. And so that's when I have started leaning so deeply in the past, I would say like five-ish years into the depth
00:27:31
Speaker
the depth, like, okay, what are you struggling with as an esthetician right now? So where is this coming from? And how do we work through this and solve this so that we can be put back into, you know, we can be in greater alignment and have more success, more fulfillment, more happiness, and work through these things so that we can continue to excel in our career. Because the two go hand in hand, right? Whenever we're experiencing two, like even in real time, when we're going through, you know, hardships in our lives, then usually, or or we're having a block in our personal life, you can usually watch that be translated to your professional life too. So there's just this deeper level, I think, also with beauty professionals, because we're in a service-based industry, we're here to like help other people.
00:28:15
Speaker
And so that means that there's a lot of healing that we have to do too. There's a lot of deep work that we have to do too. And so that's kind of where this podcast and this business came from. ah So I had started these, I used to call these build and connect calls years ago, just with my own spa partners. And I would just like send out this email and say, whoever wants to jump on this call, Um, the, you know, here's the link. And so then from there, I actually built a whole business out of it and decided, you know what, I don't want it to be random. I want a group of esthetician that stays together for a certain amount of time. Uh, now fast forward, those are our mastermind groups. Those are our master mastermind and coaching groups. And Tiffany, I brought her into that business after I had done like one or two groups myself, I reached out to her and I was like, ah you'd be such a perfect fit. to, you know, be my, be my partner in this because you have a different, you know, perspective and approach than i do. And I think together it would just be that much more powerful. And it is, it is so
00:29:23
Speaker
That's where the mastermind groups came from. The podcast started right around that same time where I had wanted a podcast for a really long time. And then Tiffany and I had sat down together. Tiffany is a spa partner of mine. And so I met her in 2017. She was actually one of the first eminent spa partners that I had opened in my territory. and then we started getting close. I would, I would, I don't remember like 2000, 2000,
00:29:51

2020 maybe I don't know let's say 2020 2021 2022 we just really started to have a different connection and have a different sort of a bond with each other I'm close with all of my spa partners I literally consider them all friends and family ah Tiffany and I's trajectory for kind of where we were at and what was on our heart they coincided so that kind of led us to I was like hey I've really always wanted a podcast. You should do it with me, you know, and you should be my co-host with, you know, these mastermind groups. i think it would be really powerful, you know, and then fast forward, that has also turned into our, we have one-on-one coaching too. So basically what I'm trying to say is that what I've experienced through my career is that the more that I have healed,
00:30:40
Speaker
you know, the more that I have done like deep work, personal growth, um the more my career has grown and continues to do so. And that is my exact experience with other beauty professionals too. And that you, you've got to do some deep work. You've got to have the deeper conversations. And I do think that most of us as estheticians, we're a little deeper anyways. And, Most of us are not super afraid of doing that work and having those conversations. I think some of the most intimate, deep, connected conversations I've ever had are with estheticians. And so that's really where this podcast comes from. And that is why we don't talk a lot about skincare. You know, we don't, we talk a lot about business. We talk a lot about, um
00:31:25
Speaker
You know, strategy, you could say we we definitely have a lot of business topics, but we're not necessarily talking about skincare itself. And we're never going to shy away from talking about our personal growth and spirituality and life because.
00:31:41
Speaker
I think as we're pumping out estheticians like crazy in the industry right now, because skincare is growing like mad, everyone wants to be in skincare, right? So there's, there's so much opportunity for estheticians. And so the industry is really growing that way. i just, have have noticed that we need more love and support. We need more community. And so that's really where all this comes from and why we have the conversations that we do. We need to go deep so that we can grow.
00:32:08
Speaker
And i think, again, like we love having those conversations. It it seems to be like an esthetician connection thing that we all have with each other. And so If if that's for you, then you belong here. you You belong here in ways that we cannot even begin to describe. And we are so grateful that you are here. So that's what the podcast is really all about. And that's who I am, or that's not who I am, but that's my career experience that has basically led me to what this is.
00:32:43
Speaker
So um I want to take the time today because the episode that we're releasing on Monday, i want more space in there to talk about what we want to talk about. So i'm actually going to now ah go through a little housekeeping and things that are going on with Beyond Aesthetics.
00:33:02
Speaker
First and foremost, in a couple of weeks, we're getting ready to start our January Mastermind group. And We're only going to be running one group again. So this last season, September through January, we've been running two groups. And so every Monday we're meeting with a group. We're going back to one group and I'll tell you why in just a second. But we're very excited. So we have six people in the group. We don't take more than six people per one group. Five to six people is a very ah happy number. And this group is very happy.
00:33:34
Speaker
intentional. It's very, very intentional. It's going to be structured just a little bit differently than it's ever been structured before, where and don't quite know how to put this into words just yet, but we will be following a curriculum and doing a little bit of deeper work together. So I'm just going to put it that way.
00:33:57
Speaker
But we're overjoyed. it's It's really powerful to come together in a community and support each other and gain the support that we need and just have this safe, you know intimate container to bring these subjects to light so that we can all work together and support each other. So in this group, we have people from Canada, Utah, Boise.
00:34:20
Speaker
We're really excited. I'm trying to think if there's, I hope that I'm not missing questions. Let me think for a second.
00:34:30
Speaker
Yeah, think that's it. so So we're really excited about that coming up. Now, also coming up, what I'm really excited about is next Friday, January 16th, I'm teaching another masterclass. So I'm starting a new masterclass this year. and I'm teaching it live on Friday.
00:34:49
Speaker
And there's never going to be a time that you're going to take a class from me that we don't go deep. So I'm sorry, but that's just not how I work. So this class is actually going to be about retail sales, which my original masterclass was. It's a very retail sales heavy, and this one is going to be the same. If you've taken that course, you know it's career changing. You know it is literally the best course energy and work of a retail sales class that you've ever taken because i go deep, because i bring you back to why are we having this experience in the first place? Why are we afraid or or why, you know, the things that are coming up for us, which is usually, i don't want to be salesy. i don't want to be pushy. Listen, there's an extremely valid reason that you feel that way, like extremely valid. And it's a very good reason. And we need to bring attention to that.
00:35:45
Speaker
And then we need to figure out how to dismantle a lot of these thoughts and beliefs and release a lot of that from our nervous system. Else no system that I could ever teach you is ever going to land and be sustainable. So, so that's really any class that I teach. That's just what it is. You know, if you want to truly be better at retail sales forever and ever and ever and grow that way in your career, because it's literally one of the most important things that we do, then you need to take my class. Yeah. because you need to figure out why this is happening in the first place and work through that so that now we can actually move forward and not have these same struggles anymore because systems are great. I love my systems. I teach the best systems, but I'm also going work with you on the deep work too. But this class, I'm also going to go deeper into pre-booking.
00:36:37
Speaker
I'm going to do work on consultations and also follow-ups. So deepening that that client relationship through follow-ups and a way to do follow-ups that feels really good. So if you've ever worked with me in a coaching container or in a class before, I actually believe that everything that we do can feel juicy and delicious and it should. And if it doesn't, there is a reason and we need to figure that out.
00:37:05
Speaker
so that we can move on. You know what I mean? So I'm very excited about this class. And then after I teach this class, I'll be... Turning them into courses. I don't know if going have one course or two course. I don't know if I want just like one big massive course or if I'm going want like a couple of different courses. So that's another reason why I'm putting this one together is like I've really nailed down that retail course. Now I just feel like I need to expand a little bit deeper into it, add a little bit more into it because I want to talk more about pre-booking and follow ups and working on those things pretty deeply.
00:37:41
Speaker
um So I have some things to figure out as far as that goes. But if you want to sign up, it's only $117. It's three hours. It's virtual. If you can't make it, then you'll get the recording regardless.
00:37:53
Speaker
And right now, I still don't even have a landing page. I actually am working on creating the landing page, but I have so much going on. I don't even know if I want to be done with it. So you're just going to have to email me or DM me. And tell me that you want to join and you could just Venmo me.
00:38:07
Speaker
Um, and I'm just, but I'm probably going to do it through zoom instead of even trying to get everything set up on Kajabi to be honest, because that's how I've always done it. And maybe i need to just stick with that for now until I actually turn these into courses instead of like the live, whatever. um So if you are interested, if you feel like that's a good fit for you, even if you've taken the retail class before, you're welcome to take this class. There's going to be added content. $117.
00:38:39
Speaker
so a hundred and seventeen dollars No big deal. at Three hours. You'll get the recording if you can't be there live. And I can't wait. I'm very, very excited. So just DM me if you're interested. i manage the Instagram Beyond Aesthetics page. So if you're DMing there, you're talking to me. i need to clarify that more for people. um you can also so and then Tiffany actually manages the TikTok page which I believe is beyond aesthetics I don't think it has a buh I'm not 100% sure try both if you're on TikTok and she manages that page for now and then we have an email address and we both check that so you're you're usually talking to both of us in there it's it's obviously one of us emailing you and we do try to let you know like who you're talking to, but we're always both of were aware and reading through all of the conversations. So we're always on the same page about what's going on in there. And that email address is hello at the beyond aesthetics coaching.com.
00:39:36
Speaker
Now I also want to tell you guys another fun thing coming for the beyond aesthetics. We've talked about this a little bit. So early 2026, we are going to just have a membership platform. So if you can't get in for one-on-one coaching, because we don't even have availability until spring, or, you know, we only do the mastermind twice per year, because we don't do it in the summer.
00:40:03
Speaker
So we turn people away all the time and we don't want to do that. So we have decided to create a membership platform so that you can be in our community all the time, working with us all the time.
00:40:17
Speaker
The membership community is going to include a few different things. I'll just tell you what we've definitely settled on right now is one extra podcast episode, extra four Every month. Okay. So if you're in that membership community, you're going to get an extra podcast episode every month.
00:40:36
Speaker
You're also going to be on a live call with us every month. We don't know the format. Probably most of the time it'll just be Q and A, but sometimes we'll probably hone in on some subjects for sure.
00:40:48
Speaker
And then obviously discounts. Like if if you want to take any of my courses or if we're teaching masterclass, you would always get discounts for that. We're also really into challenges. It's something we've been talking about for a while. We haven't quite had like the platform and the time to implement it, but there's all sorts of challenges that we would love to do. 30 60 day, 90 day, six month, year. don't know.
00:41:08
Speaker
a six-month year i don't know ah challenges. And so you would obviously have access to those as well and having the support of that community. And there would be, um I'm just going to call it for lack of a better term, like a chat room community that you'd be in so that everybody who's in the community can be talking to each other.
00:41:27
Speaker
Listen, I'm not a fan of Facebook, ah open Facebook, esthetician groups. Nope. Not into it, not into it. You're much better off being a part of an intentional community who's all on the same page, if you know what I mean. So um stay off the Facebook pages. Literally, man, I've got sucked into those a few times and I am now not in any of them because not worth my time, not worth my energy, not going to do that. And I don't believe that you should either. i believe.
00:42:04
Speaker
finding people to follow, finding a community, finding a group you can be a part of is a much more beneficial. Okay? Much more beneficial.
00:42:17
Speaker
So that's what's coming up for the Beyond Aesthetics podcast. where We're really excited for what we have in store this coming year more ways than one. So, okay.
00:42:32
Speaker
Now I'm going to tell you guys why I'm feeling so good. and I'm going to give you some background first. One reason that I'm feeling so good is because I just took my new year's trip for a while. Now I've had a tradition with myself where I go away every new year's by myself. So whether I'm single or not, I'm going alone. You cannot come with me. Nope. This is my time. Sorry. and and This has become one of the most sacred experiences of my life. I am not even kidding. And when I started doing this, oh, that's what I was going for.
00:43:10
Speaker
You know, I felt like I want to go away to the mountains, rent a little cabin. Have a little wine. This is now like the only time that I even touch alcohol is on New Year's.
00:43:24
Speaker
I love to have a glass of wine. I do. it's It is so delicious if you're not overdoing it. The experience of it is just delightful.
00:43:36
Speaker
It's just delightful. So I love to have a glass of wine and I'm a big crystal girly. I love to have my crystals with me. And I just so much prayer and so much meditation and silence.
00:43:52
Speaker
And I love to reflect. I do. I love to reflect. And then, you know, in years past, I've set goals I did not do that this year and I did not actually do that last year either. So there's a reason for that. I don't think there's anything wrong with setting goals.
00:44:13
Speaker
But what I think is important is that we just let flow whatever is ready to flow whenever it's ready to flow. I'm going to tell you what I mean by that.
00:44:25
Speaker
Not everybody's ready to be in that energy on New Year's. And I'm going to be really honest. I think reflection is so necessary and so important before you can move forward.
00:44:38
Speaker
Basically, honoring what you've just been through. that was really my experience this new year's as it wasn't so much about the momentum moving forward. I'm starting to feel that now I'm just allowing it to come as it needs to come. But as soon as I got there and started having just a really beautiful, profound, peaceful experience, I knew immediately that I really needed and wanted to be in the reflective energy of what I've just closed out for this nine-year cycle and even just this past year and really honoring the amount of deep work and deep healing that I did.
00:45:17
Speaker
I think I said this on the last episode or the episode before that. If you are not aware of this, um i did ketamine this past year. I i did ketamine therapy and it changed my life. I actually did post this on my coaching page. I had posted it I have a private fitness and adventure page. No, you cannot be on it. i'm Sorry, it's pretty unprofessional. I'm just going to say it like it is because I love to do photo shoots after a competition. They're not super risque, but I just feel like keeping that um separate feels really good to me. You know, like I'm an esthetician, I'm a guide, I'm a leader in the industry. So, you know, a lot of those like fitness photo shoots that I do after a competition and whatnot, like you guys don't need to see those. Um, so, but I had posted something that is like not super, you know, whatever. It's just like a normal photo shoot. And then, um, and then, uh, at the end of the post, I, I talked about my ketamine journey. So it's not for everybody, right? I think a lot of people would really benefit from it. I had to do it because I had a panic disorder.
00:46:23
Speaker
that I don't, I won't get too much into that. I think that if you've been here for a long time, you know that these past few years have been a little bit rough. If ah i've I've had a lot of loss in my life and that loss actually led to a panic disorder. And then in the process of healing that, which I ended up um really committing to fighting for my life is, is really the point that I was at. I was like, I've got to <unk>m I'm fighting for my life here. And I'm going to do whatever it takes. And so I was led to ketamine and I was led to, i did ah therapy assisted ketamine. And then I've continued working with that therapist after the ketamine experience. And he's really perfect for me because he's very spiritual. In fact, he's like a monk and a shaman, not even kidding. He's perfect.
00:47:08
Speaker
And um Ketamine blew me wide open, which I think just the loss that I had experienced, that was my path anyways, is that a lot of that loss just led to blowing up open my entire life and and working through my childhood. Like I really went back to the very beginning in ketamine and just dismantled and blew all that wide open. And then I was put back together, healed. And it was such a beautiful experience. And it was also very hard So this entire year I've been going through that experience of of healing my whole life and actually experiencing the grief for the first time of all of my losses. It was a little tricky this year. It's really interesting. I actually haven't shared this with anybody but Tiffany, but I'm not afraid of saying that by any means. But this past year is when I actually experienced the grief from the loss that I experienced in 2024. think because my nervous system was such a wreck because of how like how much happened in such a short amount of time. Um, I just ended up with the panic disorder. It was kind of crazy.
00:48:17
Speaker
uh,
00:48:20
Speaker
So the grief from the losses didn't actually happen until this year. In fact, I really didn't start grieving until about April. So this whole time that you've been listening to the podcast and you know you're in the coaching or you're you know watching me on social media or whatever, you guys, this entire time I have been finally experiencing grief and working through that Right. without anybody really knowing that because i didn't have grace for it i had grace for it last year when it happened you know but i think everybody now kind of assumes in my work life like you should be
00:48:54
Speaker
on the up and up well i haven't been i mean I am now, but this this past year was actually when the grief settled and I started to really experience grief and and leaning into that. And these losses were the biggest losses of my entire life. I'm still dealing with it. like I cry every day. so So it's been such an interesting year that way. There's been so much coinciding of just... um the healing and experiencing the grief and and how powerful that is because it's also brought me back to joy and it's brought me back to peace and it's brought me back to you know, when you really do inner child work, holy
00:49:33
Speaker
how that's life changing. If you want to change your life, you got to do some inner child work. And that's not something that I can guide you through. We do talk to some of our coaching clients very gently about this. Like we're not therapists. And so we can't go, you know, super deep into it, but I am telling you the inner child healing is what will change your life. So, um, that being said, this new year's experience was so beautiful for me. I've just being in the energy of honoring that when I promised myself last January 1st of 2024, that I was going to fight for myself and, and fix this and get my life back. I did that.
00:50:13
Speaker
I did it on a scale that I didn't even realize was going to happen because because when I wrote that in my journal on January 1st of 2024, I even said in there, I was like, I don't know what that means. know I don't know what that looks like, but I'm committed. you know and now being on the other side of that and how profound and life-changing and I'm just, I literally am in the best place in my life ever. Like my heart, my soul, my life, my my peace, everything. I'm just so... So me, you know, the original version of me before the trauma ever happened. And it's so freeing. It's so beautiful. There's still work to do. You know, I don't know that the work is ever done.
00:50:54
Speaker
Cause we're human. Um, so I have to tell you the funniest story though. Okay. You guys are going to love this. So normally I take a new year's trip to this little town in central Idaho called Stanley. That's where I go camping. That's where I do most of my hiking. It's in the sawtooth mountains. It's my favorite place on earth besides Coeur d'Alene. But, you know, when I went to go book this trip a few months ago, I was like, you know what? I want a hot tub and I want privacy. And I'm having a whole hard time finding that in Stanley. And so i found this place that is at half the distance.
00:51:32
Speaker
It's actually just an hour and 20 minutes outside of where I live in Meridian, Idaho. And it's this cute A-frame cabin. It's got a hot tub. It's just, it's it looked so peaceful. And it was more expensive, but I also am turning 40 this year.
00:51:49
Speaker
And so I just decided to celebrate that. you know I was like, you know what? That's totally fine. It's a little bit more money, but it also is everything I'm looking for. And I feel really good about it. like I kept kind of coming back to it. And that's usually when you know, like, okay, there's something here for me. So I went ahead and did it. I went ahead and booked it.
00:52:08
Speaker
And even leading up to this trip, I was like, wow, I feel bad. I'm not going to Stanley. you know, that's my tradition. but you guys, when I just simply walked into the front door of that place, I was like, yep, this is it. This is exactly where I'm supposed to be. it was so cute and it was so peaceful.
00:52:31
Speaker
It was dark when I got there. So I didn't even know that there was the view that there really was. and But the whole feeling was just nothing but peace and groundedness. It just felt like my nervous system was like, and and I sat down to eat my dinner and have a glass of wine. And you know how they have in Airbnbs, they have a book about the Airbnb with instructions and whatnot. So I started reading through this book. And one thing that I did not know, because I didn't i know i knew that there was a social media page for this place, but I didn't look at it. So I didn't know that this was a thing, but I started reading through this book. Now, this A-frame cabin, it is called Doki Dojo. So D-O-K-I.
00:53:15
Speaker
Second word, D-O-J-O, Doki Dojo. And I'm reading about how this came to be, how the name came to be. Well, Doki means turkey. Okay, Doki means turkey.
00:53:32
Speaker
Because apparently there's turkeys everywhere. And dojo is a spiritual term. It usually means awakening or it's just, it's a spiritual, I don't know, it's a spiritual term.
00:53:44
Speaker
So basically, this is like a very peaceful, grounded energy. I'm going tell you guys, Turkey 101, this is something i know now. Turkey's sleeping trees.
00:54:00
Speaker
Yep, turkeys sleep in trees, okay? So turkeys, apparently, they have really bad eyesight. Ugh. Who knew? Turkeys can't see very well. So apparently at night they have to sleep in trees because they they're large, right? And so they're really susceptible to predators because they're they're really large. They're not hard to catch. And it's not like turkeys are like ultimately fast by any means, right? And so they can't sleep on the ground because you're just like coyote dinner if you're going to do that. You're wolf dinner if you're going to do that. And so, you know, they they apparently sleep in trees. Turkeys sleep in trees. I'm just still... So this was the best part of my trip is that turkeys sleep in trees because I'll tell you why. Because so I'm out in the hot tub and, you know, it's New Year's. This is actually a populated area. So even though this is cabin, you know, kind of out there, it's it's actually more of like a populated, like it's in kind of a town area, let's say. Well, so there's fireworks just going off. Obviously at midnight, there was lots of fireworks going off, but starting around nine, I'm not even kidding. Like starting around nine, there's just, there's fireworks, intermittent, like weird fireworks going off. Well, these turkeys were losing their minds because fireworks sound like a gun. And you know what turkeys are all about?
00:55:18
Speaker
Y'all, they're about community. So here I am, I'm in this hot tub that is surrounded by trees, okay, that have turkeys sleeping in the trees. So every time a firework goes off, you want to know what the turkeys do? They tell all the other turkeys around them, gobble, gobba gobble, gobble.
00:55:35
Speaker
There's a gun. So there' it's like angsy at it gobbling. So it was like like firework turkeys, firework turkeys, firework turkeys, but not just like normal gobbling. like They were very stressed out about the situation. So there was obviously a part of me that was like, i feel so bad for these turkeys. They are losing their minds. They are freaking out thinking that there's like guns everywhere, right?
00:55:58
Speaker
And it's just fireworks. And then at midnight, obviously it was just chaos, chaos of turkeys freaking the heck out. I felt bad for them. And also it was the highlight of my trip. I'm like, turkeys sleep in trees. They're freaking out. I feel so bad for them. But this literally added to my whole experience. This is, this is amazing.
00:56:19
Speaker
And so then, you know what, the next morning, as soon as the sun starts to come up, guess what? Now the turkeys, they come out of the trees. They come and say hello. They're like walking all over the property. And then at night, as soon as the sun starts to go down, you just watch all the turkeys roop just jump or jump, fly back up into the trees so that they can sleep safely.
00:56:40
Speaker
Can you even, can you even? So turkeys, so this is, you know, the energy that I'm carrying with me is so interesting. So while I was there, um Like I said, I really didn't feel like, oh i I want to set goals and I want to do these meditations so I know how to go into the new year. No, i i was just reflecting on the past nine-year cycle that I just wrapped up and really honing into what that was really all about for me. And then I just honored that.
00:57:11
Speaker
I had so much honor and so much love for that and so much honor and love that. the amount of work and courage it took for me to do the amount of healing and the amount of work that I did and allow all of that to happen while I was still you know working and running these businesses. And I just was really proud of myself and felt super, super peaceful.
00:57:34
Speaker
And I slept in the next morning and I just read the next day. i did meditate. Like I would lay there and turn on you know, music and light the candles and and meditate. And my friend Rihanna sent me this really beautiful prayer. and yeah, I just kind of chilled and thought and reflected. And i was only on social media for a little bit. Like I made a post.
00:57:58
Speaker
Um, and just let my nervous system unwind. And I, i just reveled in what I was feeling, which was total peace and total presence and just soaking up the entire experience. And like I said, the view also was it turned out to be so beautiful.
00:58:18
Speaker
So, so that's how I felt. And I'm going to tell you why, but before I tell you why i'm going to talk about turkeys, for a second because it became really apparent to me that I was supposed to be there and that a lot of the energy that I was carrying with me had to have something to do with those turkeys. Okay. So I'm just getting back into my chat GPT here because I had a good conversation afterwards. So um yeah, so this is really cool.
00:58:49
Speaker
Turkey abundance without excess. Turkey represents being provided for, sustained, and nourished without striving. ah What?
00:59:00
Speaker
Gratitude and sufficiency. Holy cow. The word sufficiency landed with me so hard. A reminder that enough is already there. Now, let me tell you what that means to me because I actually journaled about it this morning. Sufficiency means to me, like, I have, yes, to physically everything that I need.
00:59:18
Speaker
And I have so much gratitude for that, like physically, right? There's money in my bank account. There's food in my fridge. I've got a great car. I love my kittens. I have a beautiful home that I get to live in and I have work that i get to love doing, you know, and my health.
00:59:35
Speaker
Amazing. So, but so I have a lot of gratitude. I'm like, yeah, you know what? I really do already have everything that I need. I, I, that, that striving, that wanting more, the consumerism, especially post Christmas. i was like, that's gotta, to you know, go like, I'm really sufficient, but you know, what also came to me is that I really do have everything that I need to help people. you know so Because again, I've been experiencing just a teeny tiny bit of imposter syndrome. um And I'm going to explain why a little bit later in the episode and where that's coming from.
01:00:07
Speaker
But the word sufficiency to me is like, you know what? Everything that you really have is sufficient to help people in the best ways possible, which is really what I'm here to do. It's really what this business and this podcast and our coaching containers You know what our membership is really all about is I'm sufficient. I have enough. And so do you So do you. You know, you you are sufficient.
01:00:34
Speaker
And you have everything that you already need inside of you. You really do. And you have more to be grateful for than you even know. You are sufficient.
01:00:48
Speaker
Earth connection. Turkeys are deeply grounded birds. They walk more than they fly. And that was definitely how I felt so peaceful and so grounded. Community and protection. They move in groups. They watch out for one another. I heard it in the trees. They were like, hey, guys there is another there's another bang. Yo, be on alert, you know. And then sacred humility. This was a really big one for me, too, that stood out not flashy, not predatory, not dominant. They have a really quiet strength.
01:01:19
Speaker
And so I just feel literally, even when I was driving home, i was like, I feel like I just did ketamine. I feel like I'm coming off of ketamine session and therapy, um which is ah another reset of your nervous system. That's what ketamine does. And so that's literally how I felt when I was driving home. i was like, I feel like my whole nervous system has just been completely reset. And so I love that I was guided there. And I love that I had that really peaceful experience because You know, I actually believe that that's kind of how we're meant to to feel most of the time.
01:01:53
Speaker
I really do. I feel like that is how we're supposed to feel most of the time. So here's what's really coming to me. And this is what our episode is going to be about today. Taking back your sovereignty with your time, energy, attention, nervous system, and your personal reality. Okay.
01:02:11
Speaker
And i want to share with you what sovereignty means. It means supreme power or authority. So what I'm talking about is taking your power back, okay? Your self-sovereignty, taking your authority back over your time, your energy, your attention, nervous system, and your own personal reality.

Impact of Social Media on Personal Growth

01:02:36
Speaker
And I'm going to talk about one subject today that is ruining this for you and where your sovereignty is probably Okay.
01:02:46
Speaker
what you're outsourcing your power to and your reality and your nervous system, your energy, your time, your attention, your presence, social media, social media, holy cow, social media. So,
01:03:05
Speaker
First, I want to talk about how this came up for me because and there is not one person that I've worked with, whether or not it's a spa partner, if you're in a coaching group, if you've done one-on-one coaching with us, or if you're just my friend.
01:03:26
Speaker
Social media is hijacking your life, your attention, your time.
01:03:35
Speaker
I literally, before I started recording this episode, I couldn't think of anyone who who doesn't like my freaking dad just sits on Facebook all day. You know what I mean? My mom. I'm like, what are you doing on your phone all the time?
01:03:47
Speaker
She's like, oh, I'm talking to so-and-so. I'm like, no, you're not. What are you looking at? So it's a big subject. It's a big subject. And why I want to share how this came up for me is because I know that you'll relate.
01:04:01
Speaker
And so i want I want to meet you here and I want you to meet me here. So
01:04:08
Speaker
get your coffee, get your water, grab a blanket. If you're in the car, Don't scroll right now. Don't look at your phone. Yep. Even when you're driving, we all do it. We all do it. Just listen, just listen. And if you can relate, I'm going to help you fix this.
01:04:28
Speaker
Okay. Because I have fixed it.
01:04:32
Speaker
And that's why I feel better than I've ever felt. How i feel right now is peaceful and present.
01:04:44
Speaker
nurturing to myself. I feel very devoted to myself. I trust in myself to accomplish what I want and need to accomplish.
01:04:56
Speaker
I trust myself to not outsource my energy anymore. And I feel really aware of all of this. And I want you to, too.
01:05:08
Speaker
And it is the fastest way to change your life. It really is. Because there's a big difference between your energy when you're consuming social media and when you're not. so So let me just give you a few examples of how this has came up for me and how I landed here. And then I'll tell you how to fix this. So how did this come up for me? Number one, I've really struggled with my scheduling and Oh man, I end up working until, i don't know, 11, 1030, 11 at night.
01:05:44
Speaker
And I'm done. I'm ah so beyond over that happening. Right. And I also have just felt like time is moving too fast. Like time's not real when, you know, the truth is that time isn't real. So why do you think it's moving fast? Because your energy is being hijacked because you're not present. Right.
01:06:02
Speaker
you know And the more that I have started to slow down just in my daily everything, when I'm washing my face, when I'm brushing my teeth, I'm taking deep breaths when I'm filling up my water at the fridge, I'm not rushing through anything anymore. am really mindfully slowing down. and catching myself when I'm rushing and taking a deep breath and slowing down. The first sign that your nervous system is dysregulated is that you rush through everything that you do. Your movements just alone, they're so rushed. They're so fast.
01:06:42
Speaker
you will notice that if you just slow down, time will bend for you, including you know light a candle when you're getting ready. you know And when you're in the shower and you're washing your body or washing your hair, think of washing away any bad energy. like anything throughout the day, like this is not mine anymore. I'm clear. I'm washing this away from me. So, so slowing down, but you, you will notice how much you're rushing.
01:07:12
Speaker
And, and that's probably why time feels really fast. And you feel like you've lost control over time. Your nervous system is just a little bit of a, you know, wreck that can be on a scale of one to 10, you know what I mean? But, um,
01:07:26
Speaker
If time feels like it's moving really fast, that can also mean that you're outsourcing your time. You're outsourcing your time to consuming mostly social media. Okay.
01:07:42
Speaker
Human beings' attention span is so bad these days. It is so bad. And social media is actually very much to blame. So when I was thinking about my scheduling and i was like, why is this happening to me? Why am I...
01:07:58
Speaker
not only not getting everything done that I want to and need to, but I'm working until 11 o'clock at night and I'm still not getting things done. What is that? But when I really get honest with myself, you want to know what the problem is? I'm scrolling on social media. My energy is not contained. It's not contained because I'm outsourcing it to social media.
01:08:19
Speaker
And it's so easy to get done with one task and And then instead of having some ritual of completing that task before you start your next one, which you're usually needing to get into a different mode,
01:08:34
Speaker
you just pick up your phone or i I pick up my phone and I get lost in scrolling social media. And you know how this goes. All of a sudden it's an hour later and you're like, oh, just, you know, five more minutes and then 30 more minutes goes by. Well, your day's gone. You just gave away 90 minutes to social media. Why?
01:08:58
Speaker
Why were you posting valuable content? No, it doesn't take an hour and a half to do that. Okay, sometimes it doesn't begin. that's not I'm talking about scrolling here. All right, talking about scrolling.
01:09:09
Speaker
So I'm going to tell you guys, i had i I kind of stumbled upon two different things within about a week. Number one, I was watching something where they were showing the difference between the ball drop in Times Square from 1999 and then one that was just a few years ago.
01:09:29
Speaker
Oh my gosh. You guys Google it. Holy moly. That was the biggest eye opener. 1999 countdowns going time square. Everyone's got their hats. They've got the glasses, you know, they're drinking, they're having a good time and it is crowded as crap. We've all had a dream of being in there, right? We've all had that dream.
01:09:55
Speaker
Okay, so exciting. They're counting down. They're yelling, you know, and then the ball drops and they go crazy. They are so excited. i mean, and that goes on and on. Like that excitement, that celebration, it goes on for like 10 minutes.
01:10:13
Speaker
Everyone's freaking out. So excited about the new year. Not a phone in sight. Not at 1999. We don't have the whole world in our pocket.
01:10:26
Speaker
Okay, so fast forward to whenever this was just a few years ago example that I saw. First of all, the crowd's not even as excited. You know, there's like not that much excitement, which you know what, I gotta be honest, like our world right now is a little weird. It's a little weird, but that's not what this is about.
01:10:42
Speaker
Not as much excitement though. And the ball drops. And it was quiet. Like I'm, I don't actually remember, like there was probably some people counting down, but like, it was not like 90, 99 and the ball drops and e no shouting, no excitement, just phones recording the ball drop.
01:11:08
Speaker
Hmm.
01:11:11
Speaker
I will never be the same after watching that. I really won't. And then a few days later, i saw Matthew McConaughey on a podcast. Oh, what is that guy's name? I cannot remember his name.
01:11:23
Speaker
He was on a podcast with someone else and they were talking about the human brain, dopamine. And obviously our dopamine is like way, way, way hijacked. It's so messed up.
01:11:34
Speaker
You know, back in the day, if we scaled a mountain, If we went to Disneyland, if we went to the beach, you know, we did anything like so fun and cool and exciting.
01:11:48
Speaker
the The dopamine hit the brain connection with the moment, that peak experience. It happened when you got to the top of the mountain.
01:11:59
Speaker
It happened when you saw the beach. happened when you saw mother freaking Mickey Mouse at Disneyland, if that's what you love, you know, you were in the moment.
01:12:10
Speaker
And so that experience in the brain happened in the brain in the moment, whatever that reaction is, the dopamine. I think there's a little bit more to it than that. Well, what he was saying was that now the way that our brains work are completely different. Do you want to know when you have the reaction in the dopamine moment in your brain?
01:12:30
Speaker
When you hit share, are you kidding me? None of this was okay with me. Both of these scenarios, they changed to me forever. I'm not even kidding. I was like, that's not life. That's not what I want. That's not why I'm here That is not why I'm here. I'm getting a little emotional because like that sucks.
01:12:52
Speaker
That sucks that you are not actually living your life for you to soak it up and be present in it. Huh? You're not. You're not. You're having those positive reactions in your brain when you hit share.
01:13:04
Speaker
And not only that, but you are literally giving all of your time away to scrolling through information overload that your brain was never meant to handle. So here's another experience that I had that was so interesting for me.
01:13:19
Speaker
Um, one day I, so I've been getting back into tech talk, which is literally where this imposter syndrome is coming from. It's like a new platform I'm trying to figure out. And to me, I'm sorry, tech talk is way more noisy than Instagram. Now, you guys, I should have prefaced this by saying I have a good relationship 99% of the time with social media. I don't compare myself to people. i don't worry about any of that. I just, you know, will get caught up in scrolling, which is also, you know, anyways. Okay. So I just get caught up in scrolling.
01:13:54
Speaker
However, TikTok all of a sudden gave me some imposter syndrome. um And I don't know if that's because it's new or if it's just really overwhelming. But like I said, TikTok is very noisy and your interactions with TikTok and like trying to learn all of that, it it was it's a little bit overwhelming as much as I love social media and I love content creation, especially. it was just a lot for me.
01:14:18
Speaker
And so I've been having that experience too and trying to figure out like, how do i leverage and have a presence on TikTok and interact on TikTok and not get super caught up in that noise? And I'm saying that because I know that a lot of you can relate to that. But let me tell you, one day that was happening between TikTok and Instagram. It was just one of those days where I had gotten really caught up. It's like one o'clock in the morning by the time that I finally get in bed. and what had happened is I had ended up finding out about...
01:14:51
Speaker
i i don't I wouldn't even call it conspiracy theories, but like there's just something going on in our country right now that is freaking crazy and not surprising either. It's not dark. It's it's nothing like that. And I've told you guys before, let go of the conspiracy theories. like Don't worry about it. This wasn't really that, but it was like, there's something going on in our country that's just, it's messed up. And um you know as soon as I finally...
01:15:19
Speaker
Got away from it, you know turn it turn it off, put my phone in my bathroom where it stays at night and um lay down in bed. You want to know the first thought that came to me as soon as I closed my eyes. i was like, Jessica, what was that?
01:15:35
Speaker
It is one o'clock in the morning. What was that? Why did you do that? And then i had a thought come to me and that thought was, you your life is no better now because of what you know now because of what you saw on social media tonight not just that but like all of it not just that one scenario that I'm like now aware of that I don't need to be but just like everything you know from scrolling like my my life is no better now that that's part of my reality and now that's part of your reality and guess what it was never yours to carry
01:16:14
Speaker
Does you know good? Never yours to carry. You didn't need to be aware of that. And again, it's nothing bad. it's nothing It's not gross. It's not bad. It's just, it's stupid. It's so messed up, but it's also like not surprising.
01:16:28
Speaker
But it was just like, hey, no, your your life is no better now that you have this information. or that you sat here and scrolled on like, no, you know, and I, and it's so interesting too, when you, when you're caught up in scrolling or you just finished scrolling, how you don't feel good.
01:16:46
Speaker
You don't feel good. Your, your brain is complete noise and mush, just total mush, which you know what BTW, if you guys don't know when you're watching TV or you're on social media and You are in a hypnotized brain state. I can't remember if it's alpha or beta or theta. I don't remember, but you're in a brain state that is meant that it's just the same brain state that you're in when you're being hypnotized. Why do you think there's so many ads?
01:17:20
Speaker
Why do you think your social media feed is an algorithm and manipulated? Come on. So the problem is that you're you're outsourcing your sovereignty that way. You know, you're taking in all of this content and being subjected to you know, extreme like consumerism, which I'm not anti-consumerism. Like I love some nice things and and all of that, but it's, my point is that you're outsourcing your sovereignty and your brain and your nervous system and your energy and your attention and your presence and your reality.
01:17:57
Speaker
when you're scrolling on social media. So think about that, like really let that land with you and sink in Your brain was never meant to take in that amount of information either. Like that's why your brain feels so noisy. I know I just said that, but I i repeat it because it's so important. That's why you feel like crap when you're done scrolling and you put your phone away. You're like, I'm in a daze. I don't even know what to do. And my brain just feels like mush, you know, and noisy. My nervous system feels weird. I don't feel like myself.
01:18:27
Speaker
That's not good. That's not good. And you you really do have a choice. It's designed to be addicting. you know But I'm telling you right now, and I'll talk about this a little bit later, but this is the device you hold in your hand and you're literally giving it that much power over you. Stop.
01:18:43
Speaker
stop Not you. I'm talking to me. I'm talking to both of us. All right. Cause this is my experience that I'm sharing with you. so you guys know, I'm not pointing the finger at you. I'm saying this is, this is me. This is my experience, but I also know that everybody else experiences this at one point or another. yeah.
01:19:04
Speaker
Okay, um the nervous system overwhelm, the scattered mental energy, the noise, the lack of peace and calm that we're feeling when we're scrolling social media. And then the other thing that I would have to add in here is the comparison.
01:19:21
Speaker
The truth is that on social media, ah that's curated content, you know, like, you're you're passing a judgment over information that may or may not be true. You know, it's so easy to look at someone who is successful or someone on social media who's like posting all the time. They're posting their clients. They're posting this. They're posting that. They're talking about whatever. and you're like, oh my gosh, they must be. Okay. killing it.

Reality vs. Perception in the Esthetics Business

01:19:46
Speaker
They must be doing six figures.
01:19:49
Speaker
You I am here to tell you right now that if you're running a six figure plus aesthetics business, you don't have that much time for social media. You have a little bit of time. You may not be posting every single day though.
01:20:04
Speaker
You know, I don't know. i'm not saying yes. I'm not saying no. or What I am saying is that social media posting can be really time consuming and you're passing judgments based on something completely curated. you you just like decided that.
01:20:24
Speaker
Most estheticians don't even come out and say that. Very few estheticians are like, I'm a six figure esthetician. There are six figure estheticians and some of them do say that. A lot of them don't. You just for some reason think that they are because they're posting on social media all the time.
01:20:42
Speaker
it him Let's not because you don't know the truth.
01:20:49
Speaker
You don't. You don't know the truth. And so why are you comparing yourself to that when it's probably not true? You know, if anything, like find someone who really is a six-figure esthetician look to them as a mentor and be inspired by them. But the amount of comparison that happens, you got to be honest it breaks my heart. When I'm working with coaching clients and I find out that that is something that they're struggling with, it makes me emotional, especially because I'm like...
01:21:17
Speaker
freak, but that it's not true. So you're feeling horrible about something that you've actually just made up because you're seeing something on social media and you just like decided this, you know, and that is very, very common. Um, I've, I've really gotten over that. I don't compare myself to other people. it just, um, I used to a lot. i used to literally,
01:21:44
Speaker
have a lot of problems with that when I was young. I just, the older that I get, I don't. And sometimes I do actually think that that just comes with age. I think when I turned 30, I stopped caring that much about what other people thought about me. You know, it just doesn't really bother me that much. And the older I get, the more I'm like, I don't know.
01:22:00
Speaker
i know who I am. i don't, I mean, it just doesn't really bother me so much. i don't really compare myself to other people. I get really inspired by people and I'm easy to sell to. Yeah. yeah I am easy to sell to you. I get really caught up in like, g click here. i'm like, okay, cool.
01:22:17
Speaker
So, okay. So those those are some things I just wanted to share with you. Like number one, I shared my new year's experience because of how good it felt. And a lot of that was just me not being on social media. You know, I i just wasn't, I, I made a post.
01:22:33
Speaker
I checked it a couple of times and And then that was that was it. And I just felt so good. And that always seems to be the common denominator. You know, if I have a weekend where I'm not on my phone, that's like the best weekend I've ever had. In fact, yesterday, i um well, coming home from my New Year's trip too, I wasn't on social media again. Like I opened it up. I'm not even sure if I made a post that day. i just, i I came home. I unpacked. um i don't even remember.
01:23:04
Speaker
so much what i what I did i think I got unpacked I probably think I went to the gym I just had like such a chill normal night I you know hung out with the kittens I go outside with them every night let them have some fresh air and I just felt so chill I just felt so so calm and then yesterday i did maybe 40 minutes on social media because I made a post and You know, and I always want to get on and just see what Tiffany's doing because I always want to make sure that we're on the same page and because I,
01:23:40
Speaker
um control the the the podcast Instagram page, I have to make sure that also anything that she's like posting and sharing is getting shared and whatever. So it is important that I'm checking it every single day, but like I'm not hanging out on social media. And yesterday i cleaned my house to the nines. It felt amazing. Like I slept in a little bit. I went through my morning routine. I cleaned my house and then I actually ended up cleaning out some cabinets and a closet and
01:24:12
Speaker
Oh, doing lots of laundry, cleaning all of my bedding, doing a deep clean in my bedroom. i mean, just to the nines. I also, um, yeah, just clean some stuff out and organize some stuff that needed to go even just emotionally, like things that I was holding

Benefits of Reducing Social Media Usage

01:24:28
Speaker
on to. I was like, you know what? I think it's time for me to freshen up this energy. yeah,
01:24:34
Speaker
And I was feeling so good. And then for the rest of the night, like after I got my workout in, I laid in bed and just read. Right now I'm reading The Throne of Glass, the series. Hit me up.
01:24:44
Speaker
Hit me up. Tiffany, thank forever and ever and ever for... recommending that. i She didn't even recommend it. She just told me she was reading it. And, you know, usually 90% of the time, if Tiffany loves something, I'm going to love something. I'm going to tell you the other 10% is Justin Bieber.
01:25:01
Speaker
Nope, not Taylor Swift. Nope, not a fan. I don't judge anyone who is. Everybody that I love the most, super Taylor Swift fans. I just don't listen to her. Not... like totally neutral about that kind of stuff. So, um and then the color pink, like i'm very rarely going to like wear and celebrate the color pink all that much. I kind of struggle with the color pink. I like fuchsia and I like hot pink like in the summer sometimes, but Reading recommendations, I was like, all right, if Tiffany, you know, we're, we're cellmates. So 90% of her, what she does, like, I got to look into it and I'm in love. So if you guys are reading that series or if you've read that series, literally hit me up. I finished the Assassin's blade last night, like the prequel.
01:25:46
Speaker
I'm still thinking about it. Still thinking about it. Little upset about it. If you know, you know, a little bit like, well, is that did that really happen like a few books later can we find out that that didn't really happen like I don't know um You know, but really, i was laying on my bed reading and my little kitten, at my youngest kitten, she was sleeping next to me. and I put my book down and I was looking at her and the thought came to me, nothing's more important than exactly what's right in front of me right this moment. Not ever, not ever, not just right now. Like, yes, right now, you know, I want to drink this and I want to be here.
01:26:24
Speaker
and want to be here now for this. But always, nothing's ever more important than what is exactly right in front of you at that moment. It just isn't, you know? So picking up your phone to start scrolling social media, it makes no sense to me anymore. I'm like, why? Why would I why would i do that?
01:26:42
Speaker
and um And it was such a beautiful experience. And i just ended up having such a great day yesterday. And then again today, haven't been on social media. i got on for a second. I had to send someone a message.
01:26:55
Speaker
And um that was it, you know, and I've had an incredible Sunday. Sunday such an important day to me. And so i don't I don't want to waste it scrolling on social media. And, you know, again, I want to go back to what I wanted to experience with my schedule because I think this will be really valuable for you guys. um I want to just kind of revisit...
01:27:18
Speaker
I'm going to bed at one o'clock in the morning because I'm scrolling and I'm working until 11 because in the afternoon I get caught scrolling. And so as as I was thinking about my schedule moving forward and what I want to do,
01:27:32
Speaker
I want to stop scrolling, you know, like, yeah, there's some things that need to happen with my schedule and everything, but the biggest difference is going to be just staying off of social media. And I really want time to myself in the evening. And the only way that I'm going to get that is if I can get my workouts done first thing in the morning after my morning devotional time.
01:27:56
Speaker
and then not scroll in the middle of the day and get caught up in it so that then you know I'm leaving my work until night and then I'm not getting done until 11 and then I'm doing whatever and then getting caught up scrolling again and not going to bed until one o'clock in the morning. you know It's simply just not working for me anymore. I want time to take a bath.
01:28:17
Speaker
If that's what I want to do, i want time to lay in bed and read. If that's what I want to do, i want to, before I go to bed, i want to, I want to go to bed to a nighttime meditation. you want to, you know, just, just take my evenings back. I want to just be at home. What if I want to watch a show?
01:28:37
Speaker
love is blind is always entertaining, you know? And, and I really just have been wanting to take my power back. And so when I got really honest with myself about why my schedule is not working for me, well, it's because i keep getting caught up scrolling. So if you feel like that, then this next part is for you. Now I want to talk you through how to really reclaim your sovereignty, your personal power, your authority over your time, your nervous system, your energy, your re attention, your presence. How are we going to take that back so that we can go into the new year with more presence and really soak up everything that life has to offer us and not get caught up in this energy that was never meant to be yours anyways.
01:29:21
Speaker
was never meant to be yours anyways. Okay. My number one trick, you may have heard me talk about this before, is to invest in the Opal app.
01:29:34
Speaker
O-P-A-L. I will leave a link in the show notes.
01:29:40
Speaker
The Opal app has made a difference for me this year. The Opal app is basically where you have the ability to decide which apps are blocked in one and then also how easy it is to unblock it. So I'm going to tell you guys the parameters that I now have set for myself.
01:30:01
Speaker
From 4.30 a.m. until 8 a.m., it's not possible for me to get on social media. it's not It used to be set to where it would it would make me think about it for 30 minutes if I really wanted to get back in.
01:30:17
Speaker
And I just decided, no, no, no. My mornings are extremely important to me because I cannot serve other people if I haven't served myself first and poured into myself first. So no, sorry, no social media for you. You cannot get back into it.
01:30:33
Speaker
So I made it impossible for me to to get on social media. So then from 8 9
01:30:40
Speaker
I don't have any restriction. Okay. I don't have any, which I'm now calling protection. So instead of saying I'm restricted or I'm blocked from, I'm like, I have protection from four 30 until 8.
01:30:54
Speaker
eight am And then I have some free social media time so I can get on and do what I need to do. And then my work day, ah as far as the Opal app, it starts at nine um,
01:31:08
Speaker
I have it set to mid-level ease of getting back into it, which means that if I need to access social media, what's going to happen is I can give myself a break, but a timer for 30 seconds is going to start. Eventually, it will get longer if you keep giving yourself breaks. So it gives you 30 seconds and it's going to show you the ocean.
01:31:30
Speaker
some ocean sounds and it's gonna ask you do you really want to get into social media right now 30 seconds is enough for you to take breath a breath and say hmm maybe i don't maybe i don't maybe maybe you're right okay so i made it like mid-level during the day which that block is from nine until six. So from nine to six, I can get onto it if I need to, but it's hard.
01:32:03
Speaker
You know, it takes a little longer. It makes me question like really question where before I think it was like 10 seconds and i was like, yes, I, I want to break. I want to break. I want to break. And now I'm like, Oh, 30 seconds. Nope. You know what? Maybe you're right. Maybe I don't. So from, from nine to six,
01:32:19
Speaker
I really got to think about it if I want to get back into it. Right. And um I think there's been like once in the last few days where I had to jump on and do something that I have um that I've done that. And then at 830, blocked, done, protection, set, cannot access social media.
01:32:39
Speaker
I cannot. So from 8.30, again, until I keep that going until really five, because it kind of makes you do it by days, I need to get on and look at that.
01:32:50
Speaker
Because I think right now I actually could get on at midnight and I need to change that. so um So basically the only time in my day that I just have like kind of what what we would say is free access to social media is from eight to nine. And then from six until 8.30, if I needed to jump on, right? Other than that, I either can't get on or it's really going to make me question if that's what I want to do. And usually the answer is no. So the Opal app really will change your life.
01:33:18
Speaker
I want to say how it works is you get a 90-day trial for 30. Sorry, you get a 30-day trial possibly for free.
01:33:29
Speaker
And then at 30 days, it will charge you $99. Listen, it's the best $99 you're ever going to spend. Like take your sovereignty back, spend the $99 who cares for the year. Like that's awesome. You can, if you want get in and change that, uh, before it renews, you can just go into your subscriptions and change it to like a monthly subscription for $8 or what have you. So definitely look into the Opa app. I actually do think that that's the best way. I'm telling you, like just using the restrictions on your phone, it doesn't work because it doesn't make you question it. It just lets you right back in if you decide to ignore it. You know what I mean? It's not nearly enough.
01:34:09
Speaker
Now, the next thing that is super helpful is to stay aware of your screen time. So I actually think you should check like daily. you you should...
01:34:21
Speaker
I hate the word should, it would feel best for you and probably, i'm guessing, be best for us if we have, so for me, I have a one hour limit. So even if, you know, I have free time from,
01:34:36
Speaker
that, you know, six o'clock to eight 30, my phone has its own timer for social media where, you know, it is going to let me know when my hour is up and I just need to hold that boundary and stick to it. Okay. My hour's up. I'm good. I'm done. I can, I can jump off now. It's no, it's, you know, this isn't productive anymore. You know I've probably made my post at that point. And so I'm good, good to go. And, you know, so that's another thing is that in addition to the Opal app, you know, get into your actual phone and set whatever timer you want that to be. If you're someone who's creating a ton of content and, you know, really engaging and interacting, you might want two hours. I don't.
01:35:17
Speaker
I don't. Like one hour is more time. that I even want. But for business, I can see one hour of making that work as long as I'm being really aware of scrolling, which takes me to number two. Listen, if this little thing, like I was saying earlier, can hijack your nervous system, your attention, your, your your energy, all of that, if that little thing can do that, you can switch that role and say, Hey, you want to know what you're not going to have that control over me anymore. So how you're going to do this is
01:35:54
Speaker
If you get caught up in scrolling, have enough self-love and awareness awareness. What I have started to do is I literally will close my eyes. I take a deep breath and I just ask myself, is my life better for being here right now?
01:36:11
Speaker
Am I missing out on the generous present moment that's right in front of me? Because I'm scrolling on my phone. Like, what am I even looking at? Is it good for me? Is it not good for me?
01:36:22
Speaker
Am I learning something? Am I not learning something? Right? Is it good? Is this productive? Is it not? Do I feel good? Do I don't do i not feel good? And then you just hold that boundary. If you don't feel good, you're done.
01:36:35
Speaker
Just be done. Okay? Get over it.
01:36:41
Speaker
Now, how do we still run our businesses on social media if we're not going to have actually, you know what, I'm going to give you one more tip that I learned from somebody else too, is to keep moving around the, um, the apps on your phone because it's, it's really automatic that we pick up our phone. Our thumb knows exactly, you know, where to scroll to you and what to push. So keep changing that, you know, every few days so that you don't actually know where it's out on your phone. Maybe that will aggravate you enough to be like, nevermind. Yeah.
01:37:07
Speaker
But that is how to hijack the actual habit of reaching for the phone. And feel free to just offload the app. I used to do that all the time on the weekends. I would just say goodbye to the apps completely and then turn them back on Monday morning.
01:37:20
Speaker
And that's another really great recommendation. I mean, honestly, if you're getting too caught up in it and it's sucking the life out of you, then just offload the app you know until you feel like you're in a place to put it back on your phone. And that actually will reset your your responses and your habitual reaching for it. I do think that is a very, very good idea. And it's fine. It's fine. Social media is not going anywhere. You're not going to miss out on anything. It's just a bunch of noise. Not that it's not productive. Social media, I...
01:37:52
Speaker
I love social media. I love creating. I think we can learn a lot of social media. I think it can be a really good business tool, but like, it's also okay to just set it down, just be done, a walk away and, um, and just get rid of the app. The only thing, if you do, offload that app, you lose your drafts. So if you have reels saved and like things scheduled, don't, don't be doing that.
01:38:14
Speaker
Okay. Now, how do we still conduct business and use this as a business tool? If we're going to drastically limit our access to it. Well, number one, I think that we really do, you know, I've had to just work on my mindset around that and say ah the amount of time that I'm on social media, I'm not actually doing anything in my business. I'm like scrolling, you know, and shopping and doing things that aren't good for me, even as much as I curate my content so that I'm seeing what I want to see, that's still not really benefiting me. So I think number one, you have to be really honest with yourself. You know, what amount of time does that actually take to run your business on social media? Um, you know, creating your content to me, that's a little bit different. Like if you're having a content day then yeah, you're going to be on social media a lot. And even on the Opal app, you can basically choose vacation. What I'm going to be doing moving forward is blocking out certain days on my calendar every month for me to focus on content creation so that I can just batch create and pre-schedule my content. And then all I'm going to have to do at that point is check in every day and engage. So I'll check in every day.
01:39:25
Speaker
I will engage. I'll update cover photos if that needs to be done. You know, if, if there's things that need to be shared to my story that people had shared, then I'll take care of that at that time. It's also really important that you get onto your client's page, your, and maybe your followers, just depending on I mean, if you're a solo esthetician, you don't really need to be engaging with other estheticians. Honestly, you, you don't, that's not your audience. You do want to be engaging with clients and people in your area because that's how you're going to have them, how you're how you can kind of work with the algorithm that way. So realistically, if we're not talking about content creation, I'm talking like what, 30 minutes per day. it should be more than sufficient for you to do what you need to do for for most of us, I think.
01:40:17
Speaker
um And so it it is completely possible to still have social media be a big part of your business without you spending hours and hours a day on social media. Because again, if you're being really honest with yourself, are you really there? Are you really creating right now? Or are you just caught up and mind numbing? Mind numb different ways. Turn on a show, you know, read a book, ah go for a walk, do do something else. But grabbing for social media is hijacking your life. It's hi it's stealing your life from you and it's stealing time from you.
01:40:55
Speaker
And i deserve better and you deserve better too.

Social Media vs. Google for Business

01:41:01
Speaker
What I want to close with is understanding each platform. One thing that is important is that we can be super intentional with each of our platforms and our content creation and our engagement when we understand what each platform really does. So I made a post about this, but, and I'll keep it really simple here.
01:41:23
Speaker
Um, Okay, Instagram. Instagram to me is a little ah bit more about nurturing your community. ah providing education, you know, it's a little different. And then also using it as a portfolio, almost so testimonials before and after showing yourself working stuff like that, because realistically to gain new clients, the reason that doesn't happen with Instagram is because Instagram isn't pushing your content out more often than not. It's not pushing content out to new people.
01:42:00
Speaker
It's just really your own audience. you know? So, so that's good. So that means, okay, most of my content is being seen by my own audience, depending, depending, that's a whole other conversation. I don't want to get into, but just understanding that Instagram is very like nurturing to your community nurturing to your clientele. We can do education, you know, testimonials. It's a lot of that kind of subtle marketing. This is who I And Because really people are going to go to Google first. They're going to look at reviews. They might visit your website and then they might go to social media and and use that to see like, do I connect with this person? Does it look like i you know would enjoy their work or you know what have you? And then kind of book with you after that. So it's really Google that's king in that type of a situation.
01:42:50
Speaker
If you're looking for new clients, that's TikTok because TikTok, like 95% of what TikTok does is it pushes your content out to new people. That's why the interesting thing about TikTok is your followers don't matter. Your follower count has nothing to do with success on TikTok because that's just not how TikTok works. So if you're looking to, um like I said, just kind of gain new clients, then actually TikTok works good for that, believe it or not.
01:43:20
Speaker
That's something I learned recently. um And yeah, so understanding the difference between those two is really, really important. But my personal opinion is that no matter what, Google should always be king. ah We could probably do a whole episode on Google, but but Google for a solo esthetician, for a spa owner, for a business owner. But even if you are an employee, getting Google reviews that mention your name is super, super powerful. So Google will always be king before social media no matter what. But understanding the two different platforms and what content to put on each platform is really, really important. um
01:44:00
Speaker
Facebook, I don't know. Facebook, I'm not really sure anymore because I don't use it. um That was kind of my generation before Instagram came about. So To me, Facebook is a little bit like generational. And then I know that Facebook ads can actually work really well or like getting into certain Facebook groups can can work for building a clientele too. So hopefully that helps too. I think um when it comes to the creation and the confusion with social media, having an understanding of how each of the platforms works just will really streamline so you can be more intentional with how you're planning all of that.
01:44:41
Speaker
that's everything that I wanted to say. um i feel really good about that. And i hope that that landed with you. if oh if you are like me and just ah want to take your power back and live a life of presence and sovereignty and take control of your time back and and your energy, then i hope that that landed with you and that you take something from that and and that it works for you. And there might be other methods. It's, you know, for me, just the the awareness, the Opal app and my
01:45:24
Speaker
deep, deep, deep, strong desire for presence and to take my life back and my attention back is so strong that I don't see a struggle with it. I'm i'm also the type of person who, when I truly, truly decide something, you really can't stop me. You know, when I really get to a low, low, low point with something, I'm like, okay, no, black and white, we're done.

Community Engagement and Podcast Value

01:45:50
Speaker
We're not doing this anymore. And I truly think that me working that late and how how much that has like,
01:46:05
Speaker
I don't even know what to say, how much that has hurt my trust in myself, actually. it really has. It's hurt my trust in myself and my ability to get done and and be sovereign over my time and be devoted to myself and be present. Like, I just got to a point with that where i was like, i I truly, I can't do this anymore. i just, there, it's it's black and white for me. I can't do it. But then when I heard, you know, Matthew McConaughey say what he was saying, and then I watched those Times Square examples, I just decided,
01:46:37
Speaker
You know, I just decided and I'm just done. But the Opal app is really what makes it possible when you don't have the option unless you get in and completely reset your settings or you go into vacation mode on a day. That's the only ah way. But if you can become self-aware enough and, you know, it's important enough to me that I don't have a desire to do that because I feel so good. And I want to feel so good. And I want to trust myself to accomplish what I want to accomplish without my attention, to my energy being hijacked.
01:47:13
Speaker
And I want to create for you guys. I want to get into the membership and create more episodes and and really get the get get our guests so ready, you know, to to bring you guys value. So that's where I'm at. That's what's going on with me and why I'm feeling so good. And so I hope that for all of you too or i just hope that whatever your intentions are for the new year, you know, however we can support you in that, please stay.
01:47:45
Speaker
Let us know. We're so grateful for our community. We're so grateful for, you know, everybody, all everyone who's in a coaching container or who has ever been in a coaching container, all of our followers, everybody who sends us messages.
01:48:03
Speaker
It really as hard every time that I type a response, it every single time I'm like, it's not enough, but I don't know how to convey how much this really means to me. So if you've ever to us, to both of us, because everything is shared with Tiffany, of course, but If you've ever reached out on social media and you have said kind words and shown your support, ah we don't make a lot of money doing what we do. it doesn't really make a dent in our pocketbooks by any means, especially we don't make any money from the podcast actually. So so you reaching out, um,
01:48:39
Speaker
And that's how we get paid as of right now is we just, in fact, it costs us money to do to this podcast. um We do it because we believe in it. And we know that support is needed. Love and support is needed, especially because our industry is...
01:48:58
Speaker
evolving, it's growing. And a lot of people are becoming misaligned with the way that things are being done. um Just those basic things, those foundational things, which again is why I am going back to masterclass and adding a little bit more and going a little bit deeper into that because we are moving into a more feminine energy and wanting to release a lot of that force and those things that are not feeling good in our bodies anymore.
01:49:24
Speaker
and And a lot of guidance and love and patience and grace needs to be shown while also, you know, we would consider ourselves leaders in education.
01:49:36
Speaker
guiding estheticians on this new path, this new era of estheticians who come from a place of love, deep love and service and devotion to their clients and also want to be an esthetician and have a high quality life and have joy and peace in their life and and be happy. And it's all just so you know, all encompassing. And so, so it really does mean a lot to us. And if you want to be featured on our podcast, if you feel like you have a story and, um, you know, just experience and value to share, please reach out to us. We love having guests so much. It's, it's really taken the podcast to another level to host really amazing guests. And we we actually have a quite an incredible, lineup coming up. And so if that's something that you feel like you're interested in, please reach out to us. We will ask you a few questions. I think what's really fun about our community is that if you've been here, if you're a listener of the podcast, you are in alignment with us. So it's not like we're going to put you through so any sort of, um you know, an interview or or even you know an application or anything like that, it's it's you know I'm definitely going to ask you what you want to share and just making sure that you know it's it's a really good fit. But I think it's probably going to be if you're a listener, that means that you resonate with everything that we talk about and can build on that and share your perspectives and your value with the community to help us all grow. So please reach out if you are feeling um like you like you would like that. And then always just topics, you know, things that you want us to talk about. I will admit that I've let a couple of things kind of fall away because I didn't write them down.
01:51:21
Speaker
And I'm sorry, if you've ever like reached out and said, hey, can you guys talk about this? Because there's like one or two times earlier this year that that has been brought up. And I was like, yes. And then I forgot to write it down. You might even have to tell me like, just write this down. And if I write something down, it's going to get done. It's when I don't write things down. so um you know if If you have ideas, if you have things that you would like us to talk about, just let us know. Send us a message. And if it feels good, if it feels aligned, if it feels like it's definitely needed art for our community, which it probably is, if you're bringing it up, then then we'll definitely create some episodes around that too. If there's guests that you would like to suggest too, you know let us know. That would be awesome.
01:52:05
Speaker
And okay. Okay. I'm really excited for next week's episode as well. So thank you guys so much for being here. Please send us a message, send, send a message. Let us know if this resonated with you, if you have any thoughts, um especially if you have any other tips for social media containment, how are we keeping this under, under control so that it's not taking us over. We would love to hear that too. So wishing you guys um a happy, peaceful, present, grounded, intentional start to this new year. We will see you in our next episode. Have pretty dreams and we'll talk with you soon.
