Thank you for joining me as we learn about the connection between  Passover, First Fruits, Shavuot (pronounced shav-oo-oat) and Pentecost.

We are on the 49th day of the counting of the omer!!! Shavuot is tomorrow and I am encouraging EVERYONE to take the day off from work and observe the day as God commanded- a Sabbath day. God gifts us with an extra day of rest! How gracious is our God?! I don't know about YOU, but I can sure use another day of rest this week!

Today we will read in the Book of Isaiah, Chapters 29:13-21, Chapter 30:1-7, 15-24, Chapter 33:2-6, 10, 17, 20-21, and 24, and Chapter 35. We will read about God being disappointed in the His people worshipping Him with their mouths, but not their hearts. We will read prophecy about Jesus- how people would see the beautiful King with their own eyes and how God would forgive people's sins. We will be encouraged to tell others not to be afraid, because God will save them. We will be given a glimpse into the beautiful Heaven with a road that only those saved by God will be able to travel. In our discussion for daily application we will talk about worshipping God with our hearts, rather than just with our mouths. It is important that we are following and loving God with our whole hearts, not just following man made rules and thinking that makes God happy. God tells us today to stop doing wrong. Start doing what is right. Be quiet and trust in Him. Rest. That is what will make us strong. God wants us to look forward to the day of rest He has gifted us with. He leads us by His own examples, showing us that He will provide enough for us to last on the day of rest, such as when He provided manna from heaven for six days and none on the seventh. The people were to gather enough on the sixth day to last them for the next day. On the sixth day God sent EXTRA manna to provide for them. Only on the sixth day would manna that was gathered for storing for use on the next day  keep fresh and not rot. All other days any extra manna gathered would rot! God was teaching His people to trust in Him for daily provision as well as provision for the Sabbath day. It is important that we observe God's days of rest for us. Shavuot is tomorrow and it is given to us as an extra day of rest! Let's honor and respect God's gift by observing it.

00:00:03
Speaker

00:00:20
Speaker
And if you are following along on your daily commitment calendar, it's time to get that out and your sticker or however you're marking it off because it's, guess what?
00:00:31
Speaker
You're about to hear the Bible today.
00:00:34
Speaker
I have uploaded the new monthly calendar to the website. So if you are in need of a fresh new monthly commitment calendar, you can find that at
00:00:53
Speaker
and just click on the tab for read the Bible in one year. You want to be sure you stay on that particular tab because below it you will find the month ah the monthly readings in audio and on video.
00:01:06
Speaker
They have their each their own page. And you don't want to go too far or you'll click into one of the ah recording pages. So if you just stay on that tab for Read the Bible in One Year, it will take you to the calendar page.

Omer Counting and Shavuot Discussion

00:01:20
Speaker
Well, as you may have noticed, I did not say we will have our daily counting of the Omer, but ah because it is too late today for everybody to actually count it for themselves. So I hope you've been doing that on your own, since it is technically a commandment given to everybody to count it themselves.
00:01:37
Speaker
And we've just been doing it here on the video when I get the videos out in the early part of the day so that you have the opportunity to hear it for that day. But it's late today. And so I will just let you know that we are on day 49 of the Omer.
00:01:54
Speaker
And we are going to have a separate video talking about Shavuot. And I will get that out for you so that you can watch that on Shavuot. But this marks the 49th day.
00:02:07
Speaker
Shavuot comes after the counting of the Omer. And the counting of the Omer is commanded to be seven Sabbaths. So for seven weeks, we have seven Sabbaths.
00:02:19
Speaker
And so that's seven sets of seven. And so ah we know that the number seven is the number of completion. So it should be no surprise that after we have seven sets of seven counting of the Omer that something amazing would happen.
00:02:37
Speaker
And that is the day of Shavuot. And that is a foreshadowing in the old covenant for the new covenant. When, uh, God gave the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
00:02:51
Speaker
So there's a little bit of ah preface to our impending Shavuot day tomorrow. And I do wanna just give us that. But we will have a lot more information when I put out my Shavuot video right after this one.
00:03:07
Speaker
So I hope that you take the time to watch or listen to the Shavuot for Christians and why I should celebrate that.

Isaiah's Prophecies and Teachings

00:03:16
Speaker
We are going to be reading today in the book of Isaiah. And our readings today will include both prophecy for the people being taken by the Assyrians, as well as prophecy about Jesus, as well as prophecy for after the time of Jesus, ah during the time of after judgment.
00:03:45
Speaker
and Yes. So we will be reading through Isaiah 29, Isaiah 33, and Isaiah 35.
00:04:00
Speaker
Isaiah 29 is entitled, Working in the Dark. And this covers verses 13 through 21.
00:04:09
Speaker
God says, My people talk about coming close to me. They say good things about me, but their hearts are far away from me. Their worship is only rules made by people.
00:04:24
Speaker
So I will surprise them. I will show them many wonders. Wise people won't think they're so wise anymore. Smart people won't think they're so smart anymore.
00:04:38
Speaker
There's bad news for people who try to hide their plans from God. They work in the dark. They think, nobody sees us, nobody will know.
00:04:51
Speaker
But they're getting it backward. It's as if the person who makes clay pots was just clay himself. What if you made something? Could it say to you, you didn't make me?
00:05:06
Speaker
Could a pot tell its maker, you don't know anything?
00:05:11
Speaker
It won't be long until people who can't hear will hear. And people who can't see will see. And then people who know God is great will be happy again.
00:05:24
Speaker
Poor people will show that God makes them glad. And mean people won't be around anymore. People who make fun of others will be gone.
00:05:35
Speaker
And people who look for sin will be thrown out. People who trick and lie and blame others will be gone.
00:05:46
Speaker
Rain for the Gardens, Isaiah chapter 30. There's bad news for children who won't obey, says God. There's bad news for people who follow plans that are not my plans.
00:06:01
Speaker
They make deals with other lands, but my spirit did not tell them to do this. They are doing one sin after another. They go to Egypt, but they didn't ask me if they should go.
00:06:16
Speaker
They ask the king of Egypt to keep them safe, but his help is no good.
00:06:23
Speaker
So I call Egypt the do-nothing.
00:06:28
Speaker
Here's what God says. Stop doing wrong. Start doing right. Rest.
00:06:38
Speaker
That's what will save you. Be quiet. Trust. That's what will make you strong. But you wouldn't do any of these things.
00:06:50
Speaker
You said, no, we'll run away on horses. So you will. You said, we'll ride away on fast horses. So the enemies chasing you will be fast.
00:07:02
Speaker
A thousand people will run away, afraid of one person. If five people scare you, all of you will run. At last, you will be left alone.
00:07:15
Speaker
You will be alone like a flag on top of a mountain.
00:07:20
Speaker
But God wants to show you his kind love. God is fair and right, and he will bring good things to people who wait for him. God will be so kind when you cry for help.
00:07:34
Speaker
He will hear and he will answer you right away. God has let you have hard times, but your teachers won't hide anymore. You will see them with your own eyes.
00:07:48
Speaker
You will hear a voice behind you and it will say, this is the way to go. Then you'll get rid of your silver and gold idols. You will tell them, get away from here.
00:08:01
Speaker
And God will send rain for your gardens. You'll grow good food. You'll have plenty. And your cows will eat grass in wide fields.
00:08:13
Speaker
You'll set out food for your oxen and donkeys.
00:08:21
Speaker
The Beautiful King, Isaiah chapter 33.
00:08:27
Speaker
God, be kind and loving to us. Be strong for us every morning. Save us when we're in trouble. Your voice sounds like thunder.
00:08:39
Speaker
And when people hear it, they run away. God is great. He lives up high. He will bring what's fair and right.
00:08:51
Speaker
He is the one you can trust in these days. He saves. He is wise. He knows everything. Worshiping God is the way to have riches from him.
00:09:05
Speaker
Now I will come, says God. Now people will call me great. you will see the beautiful You will see the beautiful king with your own eyes, and you'll see a land that goes on a long way.
00:09:21
Speaker
Look at Zion. It's the city where we had holidays. You will see Jerusalem, and it will be a place to stay in peace. It will never be broken down again.
00:09:34
Speaker
God will be the strong one there. Nobody living there will say, I'm sick. And God will forgive the people's sins.
00:09:45
Speaker
Shout with joy, Isaiah chapter 35. The desert and the dry land will be glad. Flowers will grow. The land will shout with joy.
00:09:58
Speaker
Everything will see God's greatness. Make weak hands strong. Make legs that shake stand straight and still.
00:10:10
Speaker
Tell people who are afraid, be strong. Don't be scared. God will come and he will save you.
00:10:21
Speaker
Then people who couldn't see will see. People who couldn't hear will hear. People who couldn't walk will jump like deer. People who couldn't talk will shout with joy.
00:10:36
Speaker
Water will flow in the desert. Hot sands will turn into pools of water. Dry ground will turn into springs of water. Jackals used to lie down there, but grass and water plants will grow there now.
00:10:55
Speaker
A wide road will be there. It will be called The way of what's right and without sin. People who sin won't get to travel on it.
00:11:07
Speaker
And it will be a road for people who follow God's ways. It will be a road that fools won't travel on. And no lions will be on it.
00:11:18
Speaker
No angry animals will get to it. They won't even be there. Only the people God has saved will go there. They will go on that road and they will sing as they go into God's city of Zion.
00:11:36
Speaker
They will be glad. Sadness will be gone.
00:11:42
Speaker
That's the end of our reading today.
00:11:49
Speaker
So today's
00:11:52
Speaker
daily application is going to be way back at our the beginning of our reading where it starts and says, God says, my people talk about coming close to me.
00:12:04
Speaker
They say good things about me, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship is only rules made by people.
00:12:15
Speaker
So it might sound like we're repeating and reading the same verses over again, but we're not reading the same verses over and over again. This is God simply repeating the message.
00:12:28
Speaker
And so we repeat the daily application as well.
00:12:32
Speaker
It says, there's bad news for children who won't obey. There's bad news for people who follow plans that are not my plans.
00:12:42
Speaker
We are taught that we have been learning that God desires us to do what is right, to do what is fair, and to simply be going to church and speaking well about God, that's not our faith in action. That's not our behavior following along with what our mouths are saying.
00:13:04
Speaker
And so this is what God is talking about, is that he's saying that people talk about things, but their hearts are far from God. Here's what God says.
00:13:15
Speaker
Stop doing wrong. Start doing right. Rest. What does that mean, rest? Be quiet. Trust. That's what will make you strong.
00:13:29
Speaker
Well, just like we've been talking about observing Shavuot, the Sabbath, a day of rest, is the day that we are supposed to be observing. And so it's important to give our bodies and our minds this rest and to observe this commandment that God has given us.
00:13:48
Speaker
This is not just a commandment because he wants it to be a rule.

The Sabbath and Jesus' Teachings on Anxiety

00:13:52
Speaker
The Sabbath is a day of ah gift to us. It's a day when we get to claim it and say, no, I don't need to do things that I would normally do.
00:14:05
Speaker
I need to rest. I need to relax. I need to trust God. Trust that other things will be able to to happen just fine while you are resting.
00:14:18
Speaker
Even when God was delivering manna to the people when they were in the desert for 40 years. The manna didn't come on the Sabbath. So on Friday, they had to gather twice as much.
00:14:34
Speaker
And that was the only day that the manna would stay and not rot. If they tried to gather it enough for two days on any other day, the manna would rot because the manna was meant for everyday use.
00:14:49
Speaker
God would deliver it every day, except on the Sabbath day, the day of rest. So even then, God was showing the people by example that they were to keep his his word and keep the day of rest that he has given us.
00:15:07
Speaker
Trust that he will provide for us enough on the other six days that we will still have enough on our day of rest. God says to trust, be quiet.
00:15:21
Speaker
Instead of being anxious is what this is referring to. We don't need to be anxious and worried. Jesus tells us that who by worrying can add a day of to his life. And Jesus tells us to seek first the kingdom of God and everything else we need will be given to us because our heavenly father knows what we need and he will take care to provide enough for us.
00:15:46
Speaker
So on that fifth day, on that sixth day rather, on Fridays, God sent more manna than he did on any other day. he gave them enough to last on that day of rest.
00:16:00
Speaker
God always gives us examples. He leads by example. He is fair and right and true and just, and he is kind and loving and compassionate.
00:16:14
Speaker
And so we are to model God's behavior for us. He gives us the best examples. And so we should just follow his examples. he God wants us to have our hearts for God.
00:16:29
Speaker
you That's why he has given us the law within our hearts with the Holy Spirit. So that nobody will have to essentially tell people about it.
00:16:40
Speaker
We have that law on our hearts. We just need to obey it.
00:16:47
Speaker
And God says that is what will make you strong.
00:16:52
Speaker
says God wants to show you his kind love. God is fair and right, and he will bring good things to people who wait for him.
00:17:05
Speaker
I love that. So that's our daily application today. It might seem like we've heard this lesson before, and we have, but God's lessons are worth repeating and that's why he's giving them again and again, because we are a people who tend to forget things and we need regular reminders.
00:17:24
Speaker
It's not enough to simply say, I've learned that once. We have to practice it every day. So we wanna make sure that we are practicing loving God with our heart and not just saying good things about him with our mouths.
