Another season has wrapped, and the first Golden Bachelorette season is behind us! While it was a very obvious episode, it was still nice seeing Joan get a happy ending. We hope it continues for many years to come. We talk a little bit about some future special episodes coming, news from The Onion, and how we feel about Grant's season. See you a few times over winter break and then again in late January!

Podcast Introduction and Theme

00:00:17
Sammi
Hello.
00:00:17
Steve
Oh, hello.
00:00:19
Sammi
I'm Sami.
00:00:20
Steve
And I'm Steve.
00:00:21
Sammi
And you're listening to Roseplate Special, the most dramatic, cruise, shipping-ist, unsurprising-ist, um Disney tripping-ist, recap podcast of the Golden Bachelorette ever.
00:00:33
Steve
Unsurprisingist.
00:00:37
Steve
Ever.

Human Uniqueness vs. AI

00:00:38
Sammi
And we were talking about AI content before we started recording. And here's here's our number one guarantee. ah You won't get this from AI because we mess up too much.
00:00:48
Steve
Yeah. And not in weird AI ways.
00:00:49
Sammi
Yep, just too human.
00:00:50
Steve
Like I got a normal number of fingers.
00:00:51
Sammi
No, we have all of our fingers.
00:00:52
Steve
I'm just an idiot.
00:00:53
Sammi
Look at that. We passed the human test.
00:00:54
Steve
Yeah. this This is my ah yeah this is this is our our promo for this episode.
00:00:56
Sammi
um
00:01:00
Steve
Hi, I'm Steve.
00:01:00
Sammi
Yeah.
00:01:01
Steve
I have 10 fingers, 10 toes, and all of my teeth, but I want you to know that I'm a moron.
00:01:08
Sammi
I don't have all of my teeth, so you win, yeah.
00:01:09
Steve
Oh, wow. But you're smart.
00:01:11
Sammi
Yeah, I have a fake one and four extracted, so I don't have all my teeth, yeah.
00:01:16
Steve
Whoa.
00:01:18
Sammi
So I'm a little space age, just a little bit space age. Could set off a machine, you never know.
00:01:23
Steve
Wow.

Social Media Presence

00:01:24
Sammi
um But yeah, so ah if you're watching this and listening to this, you know where to find us and where to listen to us, but ah just in case, this is the first time. you're encountering us. ah This is kind of a weird episode for you to catch us on because there's not a lot to talk about, but we'll try to fill it with interesting stuff.
00:01:38
Sammi
And um always check us out at Pop Culture Diner on TikTok, Pop Culture Diner online um on our very social media channels and ah
00:01:38
Steve
Yeah.
00:01:47
Sammi
Yeah and we're gonna try to keep up with all this Dancing with the Stars stuff on

Dancing with the Stars Updates

00:01:52
Sammi
TikTok as well. I try to like repost and like things because it's interesting Jen's off the show but she and her dance partner Sasha are still going strong. Jonathan's posting about oh well you know the girl you liked is into older men so he's like dressing up as an older man.
00:02:06
Sammi
um He posts a little like heartbreaking video the other day. I don't know what's going on I think they're all manipulating us and I'm here for it I'm honestly like you can you can pull my heartstrings in any direction
00:02:13
Steve
Mm hmm.

Steve's Driver's License Story

00:02:17
Sammi
you want.
00:02:17
Sammi
I'm gonna listen I'm gonna listen Yeah What Yeah
00:02:20
Steve
um Well, let me tell you about my exciting day, because again, this is, you know, one of those episodes where the exact thing that we thought would happen happened and everything was wholesome and nice. And there was zero conflict whatsoever.
00:02:32
Steve
I went to the DMV. OK, had to get my new driver's license.
00:02:35
Sammi
Uh huh.
00:02:38
Steve
And I have over the years been a bit of ah a master. at having horrible driver's license pictures. Like just every single time it looks like I don't know. Like one of them was just like my face was uneven. It was very strange. Another one I kind of look like a serial killer. So I'm kind of going and expecting this. And then I go to have my picture taken and I was like, oh God, I blinked. I know I blinked. I 100% blinked.
00:03:07
Steve
And the guy was just like, go. And I was like, ah, because what do you what do you get when they say go? You go. You just get your little number thing and then whatever. And then I went to the window and they gave me my little printout. And lo and behold, it is the best driver's license picture that I or any other human being has ever taken.
00:03:25
Steve
it's It's not too happy. It's not I'm happy to be here because we're at the DMV, but it's not overly serious and serial killery. My eyes are open. My face is is about as symmetrical as it can be.
00:03:36
Steve
All things considered, it's it's wonderful. i am I almost want to just dox myself to show off how great it looks. That's how good it is. So I'm happy.
00:03:44
Sammi
Wow. Well, you'll have to show me off the podcast.
00:03:45
Steve
got Thank you.
00:03:47
Sammi
I'll take a look at your good driver's license.
00:03:52
Sammi
Oh, my gosh, that's very exciting.
00:03:52
Steve
I want to find the small

Media Break Inspired by 'The Artist's Way'

00:03:54
Steve
joys in life.
00:03:54
Sammi
I've. Yeah, I haven't been to the DMV in a really long time, but I do have a current driver's license for the record, but they keep letting me use the same photo.
00:04:02
Steve
Sure you do.
00:04:03
Sammi
They haven't made me take a new photo yet.
00:04:06
Steve
Really?
00:04:07
Sammi
Yeah, I've had the same photo for a really long time.
00:04:08
Steve
I feel like you have an 8 in like, probably 30 years, so that's fine.
00:04:13
Sammi
That's so nice. Thank you. Thank you. I invest in skin care. So thank you.
00:04:19
Steve
Yeah.
00:04:20
Sammi
And I try to just ignore people who annoy me these days. That's been good for my skin. um But anyway, yeah, another thing I'm doing, actually, so I'm glad we're recording this today. I mean, I kind of plan it this way.
00:04:32
Sammi
But starting tomorrow, you're going to think this is funny. You're going to think I can't do it. ah Starting tomorrow, I'm going on like a media hiatus.

Sami's Media-Free Week Plan

00:04:40
Sammi
I am.
00:04:41
Steve
ah
00:04:41
Sammi
Yeah, OK.
00:04:42
Steve
literally what is your job but
00:04:45
Sammi
Well, okay. so So I've been doing morning pages. I think I might've talked about it on the podcast before, but okay. There's like this book called The Artist Way. It's been around since like the 90s. And one of the activities that she has you do is like morning pages.
00:04:58
Sammi
So every morning you write three pages could be about anything. And like once a week you go out on a nature walk and once a week you go take yourself on an artist's date and you do something creative for yourself.
00:05:07
Steve
Literally, what is your job?
00:05:07
Sammi
so Like today, I'm going to a movie. um Tomorrow, I'm going to a trunk show um at this textile store that I went to a few weeks ago. So they're having a trunk show tomorrow and like a talk back and all that stuff.
00:05:19
Sammi
So I'm going to go then. So, you know, I'm trying to abide by all of these things. And there comes a point. It's usually like week four in like the 12 week journey because she's got like these 12 week books with different exercises and stuff.
00:05:32
Sammi
So it's like week four in the original book is like the no media week. And she wrote this again in the 90s, which makes it much easier to abide by.
00:05:38
Steve
Oh, yeah.
00:05:41
Sammi
And then you get into today and you're like, how the hell am I supposed to do that? um And I'm actually going to be on week six. But I was like, well, I can't do no media in the middle.
00:05:51
Sammi
of a golden bachelorette season, that would be wrong of me.
00:05:53
Steve
No, that would work. Yeah.
00:05:55
Sammi
So I'm like, I got to pick a good time to like not be, you know, so my goal is to like not watch any movies. So I'm going to one today, get my fix, um not go to like not play any video games.
00:06:05
Steve
Mm hmm.
00:06:08
Sammi
And I am almost done building a computer. It'll be done probably by tomorrow. um Don't read any books. Don't watch TV like no streaming services, no podcasts, no to YouTube.
00:06:20
Sammi
She does say you can listen to music without lyrics for like background,

Creative Activities During Media Break

00:06:25
Steve
Okay.
00:06:25
Sammi
you know, background music.
00:06:26
Sammi
like um So I might do that. um But you're just supposed to kind of be like alone with your thoughts. um Right.
00:06:33
Steve
That's the scariest thing I've ever heard.
00:06:35
Sammi
Really scary.
00:06:36
Steve
I love it with my thoughts. Have you heard these guys? Come on.
00:06:40
Sammi
And she does say, you know, she's like, listen, I teach adults, like you have to answer emails in this day and age, you have to answer emails.
00:06:43
Steve
Yeah.
00:06:47
Sammi
There's certain media you have to consume for your job or for school or whatever. And she's like, but you know what you can, you should be consuming and like what you can skip for a week, you know?
00:06:59
Steve
Yeah, that's fair.
00:07:00
Sammi
So really, it's just like use your discernment. So I'm actually really behind because I'm taking an accessible yoga class right now on top of everything else.
00:07:07
Steve
Oh, too many activities.
00:07:07
Sammi
um It's just the time, listen, well, it's the time that he taught it and I've been wanting to take it for like years.
00:07:09
Steve
Who are you?
00:07:14
Sammi
So I was like, okay, I have to take it now. But we have like a year to finish our project, even though the program is like six weeks long. um So we're getting to the end of that. So I was like, ooh, I'll spend the time that I want to spend watching other media catching up on those videos, because I have to do that.
00:07:30
Sammi
I've got school readings, I've got thesis work, I've got to get done. So I've told myself those are things
00:07:30
Steve
There you go.

Future Episode Plans

00:07:36
Sammi
that are allowed. You are allowed to read for your thesis, read and obviously answer emails.
00:07:37
Steve
who
00:07:41
Sammi
But like if, you know, my friends like I don't know, podcast co-hosts send me like Instagram links or TikTok links.
00:07:47
Steve
I'm gonna test you.
00:07:47
Sammi
I'm not going to look at them. Yeah, I'm not going to look at them. I have already taken all of my apps and I put them into like folders. So, so basically it takes one extra click for me to access all of my apps.
00:08:01
Steve
Oh.
00:08:03
Sammi
And I also totally don't remember, cause I did it this morning, like which folder is which. So like I was trying to open TikTok and I was like, what folder is it in? Is it in personal?
00:08:14
Sammi
Is it in media? Did I put it in life admin? I don't remember. you know, it could be work.
00:08:21
Steve
yeah
00:08:21
Sammi
um So that's actually really helped me already. But I'm like, well, but I want to consume media today, because my media diet starts tomorrow. um but Yeah, so I timed it out basically, because I knew we wouldn't have another season, you know, until like January.
00:08:32
Steve
Yeah.
00:08:39
Sammi
And After I get back from my media hiatus, I will start, I promise. I want to read um Courtney robins Robinson's book. I want to do a special episode on Unreal and I want to do a special episode on the secret lives of Mormon wives.
00:08:55
Steve
Yes. Yes. To all those things.
00:08:57
Sammi
Anything else on your wish list for a winter break?
00:08:59
Steve
No. Oh, I could talk about those Mormon wives all day.
00:09:03
Sammi
Yeah. How are you feeling? Are you excited that they're going to like recap um like season one during Grant season? I thought that was interesting.
00:09:12
Steve
Yeah, it's ah it's a choice, but I'm fine with it.
00:09:13
Sammi
Yeah.
00:09:15
Steve
That's okay. like
00:09:16
Sammi
Yeah. How do you feel about where do you think season two is going to go? Have you been following them on TikTok?
00:09:22
Steve
No. ah big and i And I feel like I should, but also I'm worried about like the health and wellbeing of my algorithm.
00:09:23
Sammi
Hmm.
00:09:29
Steve
Like what is this gonna do to my TikTok if it's all Mormon wives all the time?
00:09:31
Sammi
Yeah.
00:09:34
Steve
um All I know is just kind of like the immediate fallout after the first season. So I am hoping that ah everyone is still a weird little freak.
00:09:46
Steve
I hope that one guy continuously changes his haircut like every single hour.
00:09:50
Sammi
I think he will. I think he'll continue to change his hair.
00:09:53
Steve
Yes, that's important to me.
00:09:53
Sammi
Yeah.

Crossover Episode Ideas

00:09:55
Sammi
Yeah.
00:09:55
Steve
And I hope that ah the the women who have husbands that are super restrictive jerks, um I hope they leave them and I hope the men fall face down into mud puddles repeatedly.
00:10:07
Sammi
I think that's a good Yeah, I really am just rooting for Jen over here. I'm hoping I'm hoping she gets free.
00:10:12
Steve
We're all hoping for Jen.
00:10:13
Sammi
Yeah. Because she seems like such a fun person. And I just worry about her a lot.
00:10:17
Steve
Yeah.
00:10:19
Sammi
Anyway, that's my biggest feeling.
00:10:20
Steve
Yeah, it's it's fun when you marry a ah ah ah giant red flag that continuously bops you on the head and just kind of drives you into the ground.
00:10:21
Sammi
And I and what?
00:10:27
Sammi
Yeah.
00:10:29
Steve
It's great.
00:10:29
Sammi
Yeah, I think Whitney, if she didn't try so hard would actually be really fun. And I think it's interesting to see how people flipped their opinion on Taylor. They went from being like Taylor sucks to like, we're all rooting for you, Taylor.
00:10:37
Steve
Mm-hmm.
00:10:41
Steve
Mm-hmm.
00:10:41
Sammi
And I think Whitney could learn a thing or two from that. So that's, that's all I have to say about those things.
00:10:44
Steve
Yeah. That's good. I also want to crossover. I want Lisa Barlow and Whitney to hang out and just like plot shit, you know?
00:10:52
Sammi
Oh, yeah, I don't know. Lisa Barlow, you think Lisa Barlow and Whitney would be the right pairing?
00:10:58
Steve
I mean, I'm trying to think of the two most villainous people that seems like.
00:11:03
Sammi
I guess, I guess, you know, I am really behind on Salt Lake City, too. So this is like showing that I'm behind. But I feel like people like Lisa Barlow, despite the fact that she is villainous.
00:11:09
Steve
Yeah.
00:11:12
Steve
I love Lisa Barlow, but she's a monster.
00:11:13
Sammi
Right?
00:11:14
Sammi
That's what I'm saying. I know, but I don't think like Whitney is as likable as Lisa Barlow, even in her like villainous.
00:11:15
Steve
It's great.
00:11:20
Steve
No, because because Whitney is, she she tries to do all this stuff to like soften her image where Barlow is just straight hard edges and you have to respect it.
00:11:30
Sammi
Yeah.
00:11:31
Steve
Whitney's like, no, I'm gonna go to a farm for 10 minutes because I wanna be a homesteader now because I read about it somewhere.
00:11:39
Sammi
Yeah.
00:11:40
Steve
like It's amazing, but it's not it's not real villain behavior. You gotta lean in or you need to find your redemption arc, that's it.
00:11:44
Sammi
Not real and behavior.
00:11:48
Sammi
Yeah, yeah, I think that's fair. um So, yes, maybe we'll see a crossover episode and maybe with the golden bachelor, we'll see a cruise because where are we on the last episode? We're on a cruise ship.
00:11:59
Steve
Yeah, clearly they have like the, the infrastructure is there for the sponsorship for the crossover.
00:11:59
Sammi
We're on a cruise ship.
00:12:06
Steve
So just like make it happen, man. Give us golden bachelor in paradise.
00:12:08
Sammi
Yeah, do a crossover. and put Salt Lake City girls on there. It'll be

Golden Bachelorette Recap

00:12:13
Sammi
so fun.
00:12:13
Steve
Yeah.
00:12:13
Sammi
Salt Lake City girls, Mormon wives, put them all put them all on the boat together.
00:12:13
Steve
Put them all on there.
00:12:18
Sammi
Can you imagine like a cruise ship sized big brother with like several franchises coming together?
00:12:18
Steve
yeah
00:12:22
Steve
Yeah.
00:12:25
Sammi
I'm just giving them money at this point. It's the best idea.
00:12:27
Steve
I just make sure it gets like, Oh, here's, here's Charles and Jen from the secret lives of more lives. And they're just sitting next to each other.
00:12:33
Sammi
Oh, my gosh, they would have so much fun together. That's a good pairing. Talk about a good pairing.
00:12:39
Steve
What would, what would they do?
00:12:39
Sammi
They would they do dances.
00:12:40
Steve
Like, what would be their top, but top activity?
00:12:42
Sammi
They dances.
00:12:42
Steve
Yeah. Little dances.
00:12:43
Sammi
They would do dances 100 percent.
00:12:45
Steve
Yeah.
00:12:46
Sammi
And then girls would like cook for her.
00:12:46
Steve
Modest dances, Sammy.
00:12:47
Sammi
Yeah. But Charles can do that.
00:12:48
Steve
Yeah. Yeah.
00:12:50
Sammi
um He's like versatile. You know, he. Oh, my gosh. I could. Those two would be besties. That's like that's such a good pairing. That gets me so excited. OK, anyway. um So.
00:13:01
Sammi
All right.
00:13:01
Steve
What happened on this TV show?

Family Dynamics and Proposal

00:13:03
Steve
Nothing.
00:13:03
Sammi
and
00:13:03
Steve
it's
00:13:04
Sammi
Nothing. They just said dances are so cute.
00:13:08
Sammi
I like that they open this episode. like This is my favorite thing when they do a live episode, but have previously recorded spots. I'm sure it's like some kind of regulatory thing too, but I also know it's because people think it's live.
00:13:16
Steve
Yeah.
00:13:20
Sammi
So every time I see it, it makes me laugh. ah Because it'll be like previously recorded and then live and then they're like what's gonna happen at at this last moment?
00:13:22
Steve
yeah
00:13:28
Sammi
And honestly, this was one of the most boring anti climactic finales I've ever seen but good for Joan. I hope she's happy. I hope it works. I hope it's good. So I'm fine with it um so we get to see chalk state first and he comes in with a family and they edited it to be like oh Joan's son is being hard on him and then it's like but actually he's not and he thinks chalk is great and I was like, okay, that's fine like I know you're gonna say something about that and I just let you do it and so that I didn't have to do it ah I just ah yeah, I when I saw it I was like, I know what Steve's gonna say
00:13:54
Steve
Also, what his his glasses, he's got the he's got the sexy serial killer glasses.
00:14:04
Steve
That's what I'm here for, Sammy.
00:14:09
Steve
Steve's gonna call him a sexy serial killer.
00:14:11
Sammi
Yeah, he's going to say something about those glasses. um But yeah, so well, it was weird because right it's he's like interrogating him and he's like, you've got gigantic shoes to fill.
00:14:19
Steve
Mm-hmm.
00:14:21
Sammi
OK, our dad was the best and you're not our real dad. And then he.
00:14:24
Steve
Yeah.
00:14:25
Sammi
Yeah.
00:14:25
Steve
ah that He literally, and the way he says it too, he's like, so how are you going to be my dad? And it's just like, I don't think he's got a man.
00:14:30
Sammi
And Chalk's like, I'm not gonna be your dad, okay?
00:14:33
Steve
Yeah.
00:14:33
Sammi
And I'm not, and he said all the right things, you know, he's like, I'm not here to replace your dad. i'm not I'm just here to make your mom happy. And that's all I'm here for. And then it's like, there's so much cut out of the conversation.
00:14:42
Steve
Yeah.
00:14:45
Sammi
Because then it just goes to her son being like, you're everything I could have hoped for someone to be with my mom. And it was like, okay, this is great.
00:14:52
Steve
Yeah.
00:14:54
Sammi
This is great.
00:14:54
Steve
It's the hardest they've ever worked to edit for drama. It was just like, yeah, so ah yeah how are you going to be my dad?
00:14:57
Sammi
Yeah.
00:15:00
Steve
And then Chalk is just like, oh, maybe you didn't read the paper this morning, but you don't have one. um Now you got a Chalk, baby. And then he goes straight to you like, yes, you're the perfect Chalk for me and my family. And how do we get to these different places?
00:15:11
Sammi
Yeah, it was weird.
00:15:11
Steve
I don't, it was very strange.
00:15:12
Sammi
It was really weird. I mean, they only had an hour. I was actually surprised, like, you know, it's an hour and a half, but with commercials, it's an hour.
00:15:18
Steve
No.
00:15:18
Sammi
Like, I kind of thought for the finale, they were maybe going to do a two hour thing, but I guess because they didn't. But I was like, there must be a shortened part.
00:15:25
Steve
Yeah, no, Sammy blood from a stone. There's no way that you could get anything else out of this.
00:15:29
Sammi
Yeah, I was like. Well, just for a little bit more of a transition, I don't know. It was just so abrupt. It was just kind of weird.
00:15:35
Steve
Yeah, it was strange.
00:15:35
Sammi
um And then this was a weird thing, too. During this whole segment, there was like a young guy they kept focusing on in the audience. And I have no idea who he is or who he's so like, who he's supposed to be. Or it was just some random guy.
00:15:46
Sammi
But because they kept going, well, that's not her son, I don't think, unless he just looks totally.
00:15:49
Steve
no's Maybe it's another one of Pascal's kids.
00:15:51
Sammi
Yeah, maybe. I don't know.
00:15:52
Sammi
It was just weird. They kept going back to him. If anybody knows who that was, like, tell us, because I was so confused by that.
00:15:52
Steve
Camera test.
00:15:58
Steve
No, right here.
00:15:59
Sammi
Um, but the kids were like, wow, this experience has exceeded our expectations. And then, um, they get done with that part. Chuck's like, it couldn't have gotten any better. And then he spends time with Joan. And this was actually really, I think how he cemented his place. So good for you, Chuck. This was really smart. He was like, I'm giving you this symbolic key. It doesn't actually open anything. Calm down.
00:16:18
Sammi
But it symbolizes that we are going to get a place together in New York City. And that's part of my commitment to you. And I'm so excited to like find a place and pick it out with you. And let's do that.
00:16:29
Sammi
And I think, you know, because logistics, especially with like these older folks on the show, it's like they can be so rooted in certain places for him to be like, yeah, fuck Wichita.
00:16:40
Sammi
OK, I'm gonna. Yeah, I'm coming to New York City with you.
00:16:42
Steve
Yeah.
00:16:43
Sammi
That sounds awesome. And like.
00:16:44
Steve
For me, it's pretty easy to say fuck Wichita, but I can see for a, you know, a real red blooded American like shock.
00:16:46
Sammi
Yeah.
00:16:50
Steve
That's, that's a little harder.
00:16:50
Sammi
He's got a lot of family there, but he's like, he's like, listen, and it's nice because it's kind of, it's a neutral location because, you know, Jones and like what, like the DMV area. Right. Um, so, so like to have, to have Joan also like go somewhere else.
00:16:59
Steve
Mm hmm.
00:17:04
Sammi
And it's like, we're building this life together in this place that we're both excited about. And this is my commitment to you. I was like, yeah, that's like a really smart way to do it.
00:17:13
Steve
And their cute little lower east side walk up that they're gonna have.
00:17:13
Sammi
And.
00:17:16
Steve
I mean, they have to live in Manhattan, right?
00:17:17
Sammi
Yeah.
00:17:18
Steve
Like, Jones doesn't live in Queens, come on.
00:17:18
Sammi
Yeah. No. But it's cute. Yeah. And she's like, that's really sweet. I really like that. And then Chuck just keeps saying, I love you, even though Joan won't say it back till the end.
00:17:28
Sammi
But he's like very he's confident.
00:17:29
Steve
yeah Oh, he's known, he's known, yeah.
00:17:30
Sammi
I mean, he's been confident from the beginning. He's like, this is my game to win. Yeah. Yeah. Which is wild. um And so and Joan's like, thank you, because she's like, I'm not going to say it till the end.
00:17:42
Sammi
I'm not doing it. I'm not saying it till the end. And um so then we get to the date with Guy.

Joan's Breakup and New Proposal

00:17:47
Sammi
And I mean, right away, I'm like, Oh, my tummy hurts. Like, this is not good. And she's just like, Listen, um, basically, like, I respect you. You're a great person. Like you you're like, you started like, you know, it's raining, but I'm not gonna let that Ruined my day cuz I'm excited cuz I'm going on my last date with Joan and it's gonna be great It's gonna be a great day and then Jones like so guy this is not gonna work out cuz actually um I my heart belongs to somebody else.
00:18:20
Sammi
So I have to I have to end this Mm
00:18:23
Steve
Didn't even let him do the sad like stand on the beach shit where nobody comes to say I love you or he gets dumped on the beach.
00:18:27
Sammi
-hmm Yeah, yeah, he's yeah, he's just like, oh, God.
00:18:31
Steve
We get the pre beach dump.
00:18:35
Sammi
And he starts shaking.
00:18:38
Steve
Yeah.
00:18:38
Sammi
He's like upset. He's shaking. He did not see this coming at all. And he and what did he say? Like he said something like, like I had no idea or like I didn't even know.
00:18:49
Sammi
And and he was just he was like stunned and really sad.
00:18:55
Sammi
And I'm sorry, guy, because Yeah, I mean, you know, weird paperwork aside, um I think, yeah, you seem like a really good dude.
00:18:55
Steve
Yeah.
00:19:06
Sammi
And I was I wasn't sure. I thought between Guy and Chalk, she was going to pick Chalk. But I was like, there is a lot of there are a lot of compelling reasons to pick Guy.
00:19:12
Steve
Yeah.
00:19:15
Sammi
I mean, there are a lot of compelling reasons to pick Pascal.
00:19:16
Steve
Oh my God.
00:19:17
Sammi
There are like, you know, so I was a little surprised.
00:19:20
Steve
Yeah. And guy, you're going to be okay. I mean, you probably, you you're already okay, but you' you're going to be okay.
00:19:23
Sammi
Oh, yeah.
00:19:26
Steve
Uh, first of all, like when they did the live segment, when he was like in his suit and everything, like, whoo, looking good buddy.
00:19:32
Sammi
Yeah.
00:19:33
Steve
And I would say right now, every woman age 25 to 95 is like trying to pod at his door and kick it down to get to him.
00:19:41
Sammi
Yeah, yeah, yeah, Lake Tahoe it will never be the same.
00:19:41
Steve
So he said, no,
00:19:46
Sammi
um Yeah, I mean, but it's sad. It's really sad.
00:19:49
Steve
it is sad.
00:19:49
Sammi
And he didn't make it.
00:19:49
Steve
Yeah.
00:19:50
Sammi
And he and he obviously cared a lot. And he was very heartbroken when it didn't work out. um But I didn't really write them any notes for this episode, I'll be honest.
00:20:01
Sammi
Uh, we get to the part, you know, with, with chalk, they do the proposal, they do the rows. I don't really have a lot to say about this. Um, I liked the super cut they did of chalk being like, I'm crazy about you.
00:20:08
Steve
now
00:20:12
Sammi
That was very funny. Uh, and then you find out that they went a Disney world trip for their families. Cute.
00:20:19
Steve
No Yeah, I'd be bummed out but they seem to like it whatever I
00:20:19
Sammi
Um, and yeah. No, I mean, I get it. You're yeah. Like you want to bring your family. I think it'd be a fun trip. I don't know. Um, you can't Disney anymore.
00:20:28
Steve
I can't Disney anymore. My, you know what? My ah ah Achilles tendons have been rammed into by enough strollers in my life. I'm, I'm cutting it off.
00:20:36
Sammi
You're done with Disney forever. You're never going back.
00:20:38
Steve
Done with Disney. Done with Disney.
00:20:39
Sammi
Wow.
00:20:39
Steve
Yeah.
00:20:40
Sammi
Yeah. Interesting. Well, I haven't been since I was 18, so I can't really say much.
00:20:44
Steve
Listen, unless God curses me with a child, then I will never go to that place.
00:20:47
Sammi
God curses. Yeah.

Next Golden Bachelor Speculations

00:20:50
Sammi
Good time to talk about, good time to talk about Mormon wives.
00:20:50
Steve
I'm kidding. Kids are fine. They're fine. I just, I don't have it. I don't want any.
00:20:55
Sammi
No. Um, so by the way, so, okay. So then we see Grant come back. Okay. A couple of things I'm sad about no announcement for golden bachelor. They still, they're still figuring out what the hell is going on.
00:21:04
Steve
Still figuring it out, yep, they're still trying to work through it.
00:21:08
Sammi
Who do you think it's going to be? Do you think it's going to be Guy?
00:21:10
Steve
Yeah, it has to, I mean, Guy's gotta be the number one.
00:21:11
Sammi
I feel like Guy's like the obvious choice now.
00:21:14
Steve
It is beyond obvious.
00:21:16
Sammi
ah Yeah, because I mean, Jonathan's with somebody.
00:21:16
Steve
like
00:21:19
Sammi
I don't think Pascal is like ready.
00:21:21
Steve
No.
00:21:22
Sammi
my My dream casting is Charles, but I don't think it's going to happen.
00:21:25
Steve
No, it's not possible.
00:21:25
Sammi
So it's not going to be Jordan.
00:21:27
Steve
No.
00:21:27
Sammi
um So it's got to be Guy. It's got to be right.
00:21:30
Steve
It's gotta be Guy.
00:21:30
Sammi
I hope.
00:21:31
Steve
Well, god Guy is the top choice. like this is
00:21:33
Sammi
I think he's a really good choice.
00:21:35
Steve
This is like the last episode, or the last season of The Bachelorette, where everyone's just like, Maria, or this person, or this person, or this person, or this, and then you finally get down the line and you're like, and here's who it is.
00:21:35
Sammi
I think they should just pick him.
00:21:45
Steve
So it is Guy's ah season to say no to, I would say.
00:21:50
Sammi
Yeah, but I mean, you have to admit like the whole thing worked out with Jen like fabulously. I mean, well, and it's mostly and honestly, I think it's a lot of her post bachelorette stuff that's been the most fun and the most interesting, but she's had a great arc.
00:21:57
Steve
Yeah.
00:22:05
Sammi
And I and I think her personality was so much more fun and interesting than what we got to see on Joey season. and So they knew what they were doing, just like with charity. It's like they knew what they were doing.
00:22:16
Sammi
We just didn't see it.
00:22:17
Steve
Yeah, yeah.
00:22:18
Sammi
So and there could be something like that. But then again, I feel like we've gotten a better feel of these men, like in their personalities. So there's not really anybody.
00:22:25
Steve
Yeah.
00:22:28
Sammi
I don't know. I'm like trying to think like there's a couple of guys on the show in the beginning who seemed like conventional good choices, but they didn't get a lot of screen time um that maybe they could dip into.
00:22:37
Steve
Yeah. What about non-binary Thanksgiving guy? Can we, can, is he, yeah.
00:22:40
Sammi
Bob. Yeah.
00:22:42
Steve
so
00:22:43
Sammi
Well, okay. Oh, you don't know what I was upset about. Okay. I thought when Bob was talking about like the lesbian coven Thanksgiving or whatever, that he was going to say, Joan, if you want to be like an honorary guest, like feel free, but he didn't.
00:22:49
Steve
Yeah.
00:22:53
Sammi
And he was just like, our Thanksgiving it's going to be great.
00:22:54
Steve
Did you invite her?
00:22:55
Sammi
And I was like, Oh, I would have liked it.
00:22:57
Steve
Joan's out there.
00:22:58
Sammi
Even if I said no, I would have liked an invite. Like, you know, would've been fun.
00:23:01
Steve
Yeah, maybe keep him around another week, Joan, if you want to invite to Thanksgiving.
00:23:04
Sammi
Yeah.
00:23:04
Steve
Come on.
00:23:05
Sammi
I was like, I was kind of like, Yeah, I was kind of hard on Bob because like chiropractor can go one of two ways. But like I have to say that Thanksgiving tradition is cool.
00:23:10
Steve
Mm-hmm.
00:23:14
Sammi
That it's cool as hell.
00:23:16
Steve
Yeah.
00:23:16
Sammi
um Yeah, like, yeah, maybe maybe Bob. I don't know. ah Like I was thinking, like, who's what was it? Dan with like the wasn't he the one who had the tremor? Was it Dan?
00:23:27
Steve
Oh, yeah tremor yeah yeah yeah, that could work.
00:23:29
Sammi
Yeah, like he's really like he's kind of one of those like great on paper conventionally good looking guys who was on the show but just didn't get a lot of but he like had a good heart you know underneath all of it and you know like you and he had a good story and he had like a good family story too.
00:23:44
Steve
No.
00:23:46
Steve
it's It's harder though with with the golden stuff because because there's not a paradise thing.
00:23:48
Sammi
Yeah.
00:23:52
Steve
So Keith is a great example. I love Keith, okay?
00:23:54
Sammi
Yeah, Keith and Charles and um Gary are like paradise guys.
00:23:58
Steve
Yeah. These are paradise guys.
00:23:59
Sammi
And Jack, obviously.
00:24:00
Steve
They're not main characters.
00:24:01
Sammi
Jack, obviously.
00:24:02
Steve
Yeah.
00:24:02
Sammi
Yeah, they're all paradise guys.
00:24:03
Steve
Yeah.
00:24:03
Sammi
Yeah.
00:24:04
Steve
Yeah. But, but they're not like, you, you can't, I mean, you could slot them in as the golden bachelor, but that's not their place.
00:24:12
Sammi
Right.
00:24:12
Steve
They're, they're part of an ensemble, you know?
00:24:14
Sammi
Well, it's kind of like, you know, before we had paradise, Bob Guinea was um a bachelor.
00:24:20
Steve
Yeah.
00:24:20
Sammi
Which I thought he was like a good bachelor. But I think if we had if there was a Bob Guinea today, we would say he's a Paradise guy.
00:24:23
Steve
yeah
00:24:29
Steve
he's a paradise man
00:24:29
Sammi
So so i'm just I'm just saying.
00:24:30
Steve
that's that's how
00:24:32
Sammi
like But they can hold their own, so we shouldn't forget about that.
00:24:36
Sammi
you know Yeah.
00:24:36
Steve
Oh, and it's not, it's not even about that.
00:24:38
Steve
It's just like the role that they play. ah think Think of them as Hollywood stars. You got your Brad Pitts and your, and your, you know, George Clooney's and your guy, right?
00:24:49
Steve
Like that's, that's your main character.
00:24:49
Sammi
Yeah.
00:24:51
Steve
And then it Hollywood equivalent, you got your, you got like a Gary Oldman. There's Keith, versatile, fun, well-respected by his peers, but not a guy who's going to put butts in seats.
00:25:03
Steve
Guy is the guy who puts butts in seats.
00:25:06
Sammi
I mean, Gary Oldman, well, I don't know if that if Gary Oldman is like the best ah choice because he's had leading roles.
00:25:13
Steve
He's a great character actor, but but no one, no, no, no, but no one has literally no one has ever gone to see a movie and be like, oh, did you see the new Gary Oldman movie?
00:25:15
Sammi
Yeah, but he's had leading roles.
00:25:22
Steve
No one's ever said that, except for like people whose glasses are falling down their nose and they push them back up.
00:25:29
Steve
ah You're like, no one.
00:25:31
Sammi
Okay.
00:25:31
Steve
I'm like, you don't count. I'm talking about like the general population.
00:25:33
Sammi
Well, I don't know if I, I don't know if I've said that about Gary Oldman necessarily.
00:25:36
Steve
No, no one's ever said, but if you know who Gary Oldman is, you're like, yeah, fucking Gary Oldman.
00:25:41
Sammi
it I don't know about that choice, but I'll, I'll, I'm trying to go with it. I'm trying to go with it. I'm trying, I'm trying to follow you on this journey.
00:25:47
Steve
You know, it's like, like a person who is a, again, a respected actor who is maybe his head lead roles, but is known more for like supporting roles. So another one would be like a Philip, Philip Seymour, often other guys just like, he's great.
00:25:56
Sammi
Cause it's like,
00:25:59
Sammi
Again, again, I have gone to see movies because Philip Seymour, like because in my mind, I'm like, OK, Philip Seymour Huffman, Sam Rockwell, you know, guys like that, like, you know, John C.
00:26:03
Steve
But, uh, but you're pushing, you're pushing the glasses up the nose. That's the difference. Yeah. Yeah.
00:26:11
Sammi
Riley, like I have gone to see them specifically.
00:26:16
Steve
But but like these are the kind of people where it's like if I go up to my aunt and and I'm just like, did you see the new George Clooney movie? She knows what I'm talking about. If I'm like, you have you seen the new Gary Oldman movie?
00:26:26
Steve
She'd be like, what the hell are you talking about? like it's this This is for the everyman, for the everyman or woman.
00:26:30
Sammi
Oh, my God. Yeah. Well, I'm going to go see the new Hugh Grant movie where he plays like an evil man.
00:26:37
Steve
Yeah, Evil Hugh Grant.
00:26:37
Sammi
Some breaks and in a different evil than he normally is evil. So I'm excited for that.
00:26:41
Steve
Mm-hmm.
00:26:42
Sammi
I think that's going to be really fun. Um, what I feel like, do you feel like, uh, Grant like looks much more intriguing?

Grant's Bachelor Transformation

00:26:50
Sammi
I don't know if it was like the lighting or if they've done a little bit of a glow up or something, but I was like, I was like, no, I mean, like he was handsome, but I'm like, Oh yeah, he got the bachelor treatment and like, he looked extra handsome on the, you know, after the final row.
00:26:54
Steve
What is the allure of Grant? Yeah.
00:27:04
Steve
Oh yeah.
00:27:05
Sammi
So I was like, I was like, okay, all right. I see where they're going with this.
00:27:09
Steve
They got the glam squad over there, they know what they're doing.
00:27:10
Sammi
Yeah, he's looking good. He's like, I mean, he did look good. But then and it was like one of those things where it's like, oh, but then they like upped it like the it factor. Like, yeah, I was like, oh, all right, Grant. um do Are you excited about his season yet? Or are you still kind of like not sure?
00:27:28
Steve
i I mean, he's still, I don't know. He's a day trader. Like, how can I get past that?
00:27:35
Sammi
But he loves his music.
00:27:39
Steve
this is such This sounds like, I i don't i don't want that.
00:27:40
Sammi
He's gonna be playing a lot of music, it looks like. You're not into it.
00:27:46
Steve
No, like this is the kind of person where like ah my recently divorced friend is telling me about the guy she's dating and I'm like, oh, he sounds great. He looks really handsome. Tell me about him.
00:27:57
Steve
And then I start i get I'm going down the line. I'm like, oh, no, oh, no.
00:28:03
Sammi
Why are you just talking about like past me?
00:28:03
Steve
I just.
00:28:07
Steve
This whole episode is just a thinly veiled attack on Sammy.
00:28:11
Sammi
Yeah, what the hell? You're like, nobody goes to see supporting characters in lead roles.
00:28:15
Steve
Yeah. Yeah, save me about it.
00:28:17
Sammi
Who likes character actors?
00:28:18
Steve
so i've so Listen, I do too.
00:28:20
Sammi
Loser.
00:28:23
Steve
Okay. i I will, I will talk about my love apology Amati all day, but I'm, you know.
00:28:24
Sammi
Like Paul Giamatti is such a good example. And I've only seen I've only gone to see him in lead role. I go to see Paul Giamatti movies on purpose every time, every time.
00:28:37
Steve
Yeah. You're, you're the one. You did it.
00:28:40
Sammi
what What are you what am I going to watch him? Like so what was he in? Like ah what's that one ah with Frankie Muniz?
00:28:47
Steve
Frankie Muniz.
00:28:48
Sammi
Yeah, wasn't it because he was like Agent Agent Cody or something like that.
00:28:52
Steve
Asian Cody banks.
00:28:53
Sammi
Agent Cody Banks, right? Wasn't he like the baddie and that in that movie?
00:28:54
Steve
Yeah. I think he was. Is there a s sequel?
00:28:57
Sammi
Yeah.
00:28:58
Steve
No, I don't think there ever was a sequel to Asian Cody banks.
00:28:59
Sammi
I don't know. I don't think there was, but I don't know.
00:29:00
Steve
Why is that? There should be.
00:29:02
Sammi
But he i just saw your cast tail and it scared me.
00:29:04
Steve
My cat's tail is like bananas.
00:29:07
Sammi
Hello. um No, but like Sideways, American Splendor, and now um the, the um oh my God, why did my brain just go?
00:29:09
Steve
come Yeah.
00:29:12
Steve
Yeah.
00:29:17
Steve
But has your aunt seen any of those?
00:29:18
Sammi
The Holdovers.
00:29:21
Sammi
Has my aunt seen any of those?
00:29:22
Steve
Yeah, I'm not gonna say your mom, because I feel like you have cool parents.
00:29:23
Sammi
My aunt hasn't seen anything. My parents have seen all of those movies and are as obsessed with Paul Giamatti as I am.
00:29:27
Steve
Yeah.
00:29:29
Sammi
They were the ones who like got me interested in Paul Giamatti because they were like, oh, Sideways, so good.
00:29:36
Steve
Which you saw when you're probably like, you're like 12, you're like, yeah, a wide trip because I'm trying to find myself and I'm 40.
00:29:44
Sammi
No, Sideways came out in 2004.
00:29:47
Steve
2004. Yeah.
00:29:48
Sammi
I saw it when I was in high school. i I probably was a little young to watch it, but, you know, I watched it by myself. I didn't watch it with my parents. I would have been awkward.
00:29:57
Steve
Yeah. You know, it's really weird.
00:29:58
Sammi
Yeah.
00:29:59
Steve
You're probably the same age as Paul Giamatti and sideways right now.
00:30:03
Sammi
That's probably true. That's probably true.
00:30:06
Sammi
But yeah, if you haven't, if you haven't seen American splendor friends, do not sleep on it. What a great movie.
00:30:06
Steve
Something to think about.
00:30:11
Steve
That is good.
00:30:11
Sammi
I've got a lot of Harvey P. Carr books on that shelf over there. Okay. Big fan, big fan.
00:30:15
Steve
That is good.
00:30:16
Sammi
Okay. Got a lot of underground comic books. Got a lot of our crumbs and Dennis kitchen stuff over there.
00:30:22
Steve
This is good.
00:30:22
Sammi
I'm telling you.
00:30:22
Steve
People have been, people have been waiting for the moment where it's like, okay, we have kind of a nothing happens, a bachelor finale.
00:30:29
Sammi
Yeah.
00:30:29
Steve
So this is the bachelor Harvey P. Carr crossover. Everyone's been waiting for.
00:30:34
Sammi
You gotta you gotta to love Harvey P. Carr if you don't. What's wrong with you?
00:30:38
Steve
What's wrong with you?
00:30:39
Sammi
um Oh God, I had something else I was gonna say about that. Oh, very exciting news coming from my former employer.

The Onion's Satirical Move

00:30:45
Sammi
We'll talk about this and then we'll close it out. um So for those of you who don't know, I used to work at The Onion.
00:30:49
Sammi
um I worked there for a couple of years and I did like a bunch of event promotions and all of that kind of stuff. um And I worked for like the city office. So I would get ad, sell ads and give out lots of free concert tickets. I mean, gobs, yeah you would be shocked how many times I get to see it sit in very special seats. I felt like a very special person. um It was my dream job, but ah not lucrative.
00:31:13
Sammi
And I left right before like the paper version went under. Like I saw it coming and I left. And then like a year or two later, like the paper went under and all that stuff.
00:31:25
Sammi
But it was a great place to work. I had the best boss. I learned so much and I made plenty of mistakes as well. um But I just found out like, what was that yesterday? Didn't that happen yesterday?
00:31:36
Sammi
The onion bought info wars. I don't even, I...
00:31:39
Steve
Very funny.
00:31:42
Sammi
Amazing. Amazing. I have no notes. Honestly, the onion continues to exceed my expectations for what they're going to do. Um, do I think, uh, their, uh, former business practices, uh, with re keeping the paper part afloat.
00:31:58
Sammi
Do I, do I support that stuff? No, that made me sad. Okay. But I understand it was when everyone's like papers dying, nobody cares about paper anymore. And they.
00:32:06
Steve
but to bring the paper back too now. So no, no, there's not, there's not going to be any AV club Milwaukee stuff anymore.
00:32:07
Sammi
Yeah. Yeah. But I don't think they're going to bring back like city offices. I think they're just going to do like distribution. Yeah. I mean, that was like so special. That was a really special like point in time. And we were so ingrained in the community. We were at like every event and, but we were the last city to, to fold.
00:32:26
Steve
This is true.
00:32:26
Sammi
we We were holding strong, and we were actually still doing well financially. So I'm very proud of that. um So anyway, that part was disappointing. But I'm happy to see that they have survived a lot of iterations of the internet since then.
00:32:40
Sammi
And this latest InfoWars acquisition is one of the most amazing trolls I could ever, I couldn't even dream this up.
00:32:49
Steve
Oh, my favorite part of the whole thing is, so basically, InfoWars got taken away because of the Sandy Hook lawsuit.
00:32:50
Sammi
Ugh.
00:32:58
Sammi
Yeah.
00:32:59
Steve
and so All of this is kind of tied in with that lawsuit and the parents of the children who were killed at Sandy Hook. so When InfoWars kind of went up to auction and companies and hedge funds and the onion were putting in bids,
00:33:15
Steve
a lot of those bids, like their evaluation was kind of tied to the whole like court settlement, all of that. So in order to get info wars, the Onion had to work to kind of like bolster up their bid a little bit. So people from the Onion literally sat down with the parents of Sandy Hook and said, guys,
00:33:39
Steve
So you might lose a little bit of money here, but think about how funny this would be.
00:33:46
Sammi
ah Yeah. And they're like, we're in.
00:33:47
Steve
And they said, yes.
00:33:48
Sammi
We're in. This is amazing. What a great idea.
00:33:51
Sammi
Yeah. I mean, you know, in in a day and age when people are talking about like, OK, like AI taking over content, writing jobs and ah journalism being unreliable and like the media being evil and all that crap.
00:33:52
Steve
Fantastic.
00:34:10
Sammi
And this is my whole life.
00:34:11
Steve
Yeah. Except for podcasters who are cool, always.
00:34:13
Sammi
Right. But I'm saying like this is such a major part of both of our lives and like our careers and everything. And so to see a media company that has honestly been one of the they've had so much integrity for so long. I mean, they started the year I was born. So just like I don't know a life without the Simpsons. I don't know a life without the onion. um And those two things have really shaped me as a person. You don't know that about me.
00:34:39
Sammi
um And so to see them carry themselves with such integrity and and do a move like this and ah show the importance of journalism and media despite it being a satirical publication.

Using Anger for Creativity

00:34:52
Sammi
That's not you know that's not the core of the work that they do. It was so ah encouraging. I don't know. it just really like things can feel really shitty and hopeless. And this was like one of those things that made me feel like a spark of like, you know, I've been talking to some of my friends about like righteous anger and acting out of spite, being powered by spite.
00:35:16
Sammi
and how that can be productive, you know, like productive rage or productive spite. And this really like tapped into the feeling that I've been like trying to connect with like the past few weeks. Like how can I how can i create art and, um you know,
00:35:34
Sammi
things that come from like my mind and my soul ah in a world that wants me to be soulless and give up. And so that's what this meant to me this week.
00:35:47
Steve
That's nice.
00:35:48
Sammi
a very heavy ending to a very light boring episode. So I hope you enjoy that everyone. And I hope you create something out of anger, spite or happiness.
00:35:53
Steve
Yeah.
00:35:58
Sammi
It could be it could be contentment as well. um But whatever you need to fuel you, I hope it fuels you. Please rest when you need to rest and take care of yourself. We are heading into a busy holiday season and you know how that is.
00:36:12
Steve
Yeah. And don't do needle drugs. especially around the holidays. Come on. Wait, cat cam.
00:36:19
Sammi
go to the cat cam check us out on instagram and go to the cat cam you should go yeah hell yeah if you're not listening if you're listening and not watching you're missing the cat butthole

00:36:34
Steve
Just show off your butthole, bro. Cool. Butthole.
00:36:44
Steve
Yeah, this is the only bachelor podcast with butthole.
