And you guys can communicate with me on the episode. So I think that's really cool. So if you want to add something that you liked about the episode or what you think of the podcast,
00:01:08
Speaker
Check it out. Let me know. Uh, I think if you just go into each episode, there will be questions there that I applied. So I think that's pretty cool.
Finding Time for Self-Improvement
00:01:17
Speaker
But today on the podcast, we are going to be talking about 10 things that you can do today to start feeling better. Okay. Now, before I even jump into this, I bet a lot of people are going to say, I don't have the time.
00:01:37
Speaker
I just don't have the time, I'm just so busy. I don't have the time to do it. Well, I'm gonna say bull fucking shit. I'm calling you out on your shit because you do have time, okay? You do have fucking time. I'm after saying this many times before, think about Kevin Hart for a second, okay? This guy,
00:02:01
Speaker
hosts like a couple game shows. He's doing podcasts all the time. He's on talk shows. He's got like 3000 movies that he's doing each year. And he also does stand up.
00:02:16
Speaker
He goes to these comedy clubs to, it's worth your while to go on the Joe Rogan podcast and listen to Kevin Hart's episode. And he explains how he comes up with new material. So he does a world tour for his comedy normally every year. I'm pretty sure it's every year, or maybe it's every two years, I'm not sure.
00:02:44
Speaker
So he goes to comedy clubs and just practices his material for that specific world tour show that he puts on. So he's doing all these things. He got brain deals. He also got a family. This is the most busiest guy that I know. So if he has time to do all these things to feel good and work out and eat right foods and you know what I mean?
00:03:14
Speaker
I don't care what you, you're going to tell me about how you don't have time. You're just making excuses and that's about it. You're making excuses. So try these
Journaling for Personal Growth
00:03:27
Speaker
things. Try these 10 things. If, if like, I promise you, if you do all of these 10 things that I'm about to say, you are going to feel better about yourself. You're going to start feeling better every single day and
00:03:42
Speaker
your energy is just going to go off into other people and then they're going to notice that in you. They're going to start feeling good. You know what I mean? They're me like, what the hell are you on? Whatever you're doing. I want it. I want to, I want to be like that. Okay. So number one, journaling. Okay. You can do this at any time of the day, you know, you can do it before you go to sleep. You can do it in the morning. You can do it on your break at work, whenever you want.
00:04:12
Speaker
I've been journaling for quite some time now and like all I do is just put my thoughts onto paper. Okay. I write down like what I want in life, write down some short-term goals, write down some long-term goals. If I'm having an off day and like, you know, I'm in my feelings or like I'm having a little bit of anxiety, anything at all, I write it down.
00:04:39
Speaker
Okay. And like I said, in the last episode 16, when I talked about meditation, like I'll ask myself some questions before I'll go into my meditation. And then like after I'm done, I'll answer those questions. So I find that journaling is definitely a really good tool to use. And, you know, there's, there's some pages here. If I like flick back, like I got, I got journaling for the last like couple of years.
00:05:08
Speaker
And I can read some pages and be like, holy fucking shit, Adam. This was you? This is what you were going through? This is what you were dealing with? You were surrounding yourself with these type of people? What the fuck? And then like, now I just think about my life now and I'm like, holy fucking shit, like it's really cool.
00:05:29
Speaker
to go back and read those pages because like the progress that I've made is, is, is insane. But the things that I was writing down is exactly how I am right now. So like two years ago when I'm writing down, this is what I want in my life. Like this is, this is how I want to be. It's exactly how I am right now. So I was just constantly putting that down on paper and on paper and then eventually it paid off.
00:05:56
Speaker
So number one, journaling, try it out. If you haven't done it, get on it and let me know. Okay.
Eating Healthy on a Budget
00:06:04
Speaker
Number two, eat proper whole foods. Okay. Before I even dive into this, a lot of people will say that eating healthy is really expensive. It's too expensive to eat healthy. Okay. I did. I disagree.
00:06:25
Speaker
I disagree. I can go to Costco and spend 300 bucks and that will last me quite some time. You don't have to go out and buy these really expensive steaks. You don't have to do that. There are cheap ways to eat healthy. Instead of buying fresh blueberries, buy
00:06:49
Speaker
a frozen bag of blueberries at Costco, and it'll last you a long time. The bag I got in my freezer right now, I guarantee that's been in there for about a month, and I'm almost eating it every day. You know what I mean? There's ways that you can eat healthy, but anyways, eat the proper foods, and you're gonna start feeling better. If you eat like shit, you're gonna feel like shit, and that's just a fact. Trust me, I go out, and I'll sit down and have Wendy's,
00:07:16
Speaker
and have a nice greasy burger and a poutine and a and a pop, maybe even a milkshake. But an hour later, I'm feeling like a bag of shit. It was great when I was eating it. But like, you know, my guts is fucking gone. I'm on the toilet. Like I just I'm tired. It's just and if you constantly eat like that all the time, you're just always going to feel like shit. But if you're eating the right foods, that's going to fuel your body with energy.
00:07:45
Speaker
you're going to feel better. It's that simple. So number two, eat the right foods. Okay.
The Importance of Sleep
00:07:53
Speaker
Number three, get more sleep. Like just get more sleep. I am living proof of somebody that never used to sleep. And I can tell you that I was fucking tired all the time. Like, I don't know how many naps I used to need in the run of a day, but
00:08:12
Speaker
You know, my last job, I was always like working and partying and not sleeping and staying up all night. And man, when I was at work, anytime I sat down and like I wasn't working, I was fighting to keep my eyes open. And now I'm getting, you know, six to eight hours of sleep a night. And I know that's, that's kind of hard for most people, but just try, you know, getting an hour more a night. See how you feel.
00:08:43
Speaker
instead of staying up all night, watching shows or on your phone. Cause I used to do that. I'd get home from work cause I'd be working all day and I'm like, well, this is my time. But like, you know, it'd be 10, 11, 12. I'm sitting there and watching sports. I don't really need to do that. I could easily just go to sleep and get up the next day and feel great. But you know, that's up to yourself if you want to get more sleep. But I'm just saying, get a couple of more hours of sleep and you're going to feel a lot better. And when you're doing this constantly,
00:09:14
Speaker
you're definitely going to feel a lot better. You know what I mean? Sleep is so important. Like especially someone that's training all the time, like working out in the gym, you need that recovery time. You know what I mean? And if you're not getting that recovery sleep, you're just kind of fucking up your progress in the gym. So number three, get some sleep. Okay.
Positive Influences and Personal Growth
00:09:34
Speaker
Number four, make sure that your tribe
00:09:40
Speaker
is a good tribe. And what I mean by that is you are the, you are the environment you surround yourself with. So if you are around people that are negative and they're talking shit about people, like, you know, those people that just say something negative about everything, no matter what it is, they always got something negative to say. If you're around those type of people all the time, it's going to rub off on you. And then like,
00:10:06
Speaker
You're just hearing that shit all the time and then you're probably going to start saying it. You know what I mean? You're, you're probably going to be a little bit negative. Don't surround yourself with those type of people. If you're around people that are doing drugs all the time, you might, you might be dabbling with drugs all the time. You know what I mean? So like just surround yourself with good, positive, influential people, like people that you can learn from or, you know,
00:10:33
Speaker
someone that is like very successful. If you surround yourself with those types of people, you're going to want to be like that. You know what I mean? Like have some good friends that are like, that are motivating. You know what I mean? Like if you call up your friend and you ask for advice, they're giving you good advice, not fucking bullshit and just talking shit about whatever you just said. You know what I mean? So number four, surround yourself with good people. And that is,
00:11:01
Speaker
It is really, really, really important because I've definitely been around some negative people before and I could have been a little negative myself. So just keep an eye out of who you surround yourself with, what you're doing in your life. Do they have your best intentions? Are they actually looking out for you? Are you, are they even your friend? Like think about that for a second, right? You know, I've been definitely been around a lot of people in my past, like when I was in that partying phase and
00:11:32
Speaker
They're just drinking associates, you know what I mean? Like some of those people were definitely your friends, but like most of them are just drinking buddies. They don't really give a fuck about you. So think about that for a second. So number four, build a good positive tribe.
Incorporating Movement for Health
00:11:52
Speaker
Okay, number five, move. That's it, just move more. If you're sitting on your ass all day long,
00:12:02
Speaker
and you're doing nothing, and you're lazy as fuck, you're gonna be a lazy person. I'm after having days, maybe I had a hangover day, and I'm sitting around all day watching movies. I'm just so tired from doing nothing. If you just get your ass up, it's aren't moving, you're gonna feel a lot better. If you wake up in the morning, you got a day off, and the sun's out, instead of just sitting around the house, go for a 10, 15 minute walk.
00:12:33
Speaker
and I bet you're gonna feel great. Get that natural vitamin D on you, you know, take the dog for a walk, get some fresh air, you're gonna feel good. Even like after supper, right? Most people will like, will have, you know, just say someone has like a shitty meal, and then after supper they just worked all day, they had a shitty meal, and then you just sit on the couch, you're probably gonna feel like shit, you're gonna be tired, but I bet my ass. You got home from work,
00:13:01
Speaker
and you ate a better meal, which would make you feel good. And then you went for a little walk at like at night. You're going to feel great. Promise you, even if it's just five minute walk around the block, but you're going to feel a lot better than what you would if you just ate supper, sat on the couch all night. So number five, move your ass and then the exercising and stuff too, right? Like any type of movement at all,
00:13:28
Speaker
is just going to make you feel 100 times better than just sitting around and doing nothing all day. So like I said, number five, move number six.
The Power of Positive Self-Talk
00:13:40
Speaker
Okay. Tell yourself better stories.
00:13:46
Speaker
What I mean by that is the stories that we tell ourselves all the time. We talk to ourselves all the time in our head. I used to be somebody that would create false narratives. I would just make up all these stories in my head. They're not even true. Being like, what if this happens?
00:14:07
Speaker
What if what if you know to say if i had a girlfriend like what if she does this or and i would just create these stories i'm just like it was just toxic. Negative bullshit going on in my head all the time. And that would play a big role on my relationships and all my friendships and it was just not good you know what i mean.
00:14:30
Speaker
So just notice how you are talking to yourself on a daily basis. And if you start talking to yourself in a more healthier way and you change your, you know, your thought patterns and how you're thinking and how you're viewing things and how you look at other people, it's going to just, it's just going to be a positive light. Like it's just going to be a better energy in you. You know what I mean? And this is only something that I started doing.
00:14:59
Speaker
Recently just because of the tribe that I'm surrounded myself with you know I was listening to this person talk and like he was just telling me his stories and explaining this to me and that's really clicked in my head Even like words that you use like just simple words that you use Will play a big factor on how you talk to people like how they're listening to you. You know what I mean? So I
00:15:26
Speaker
how you talk to yourself on a daily basis is super, super important. And when you change up that, that chatter and that talk in your head, just watch how it affects your life in a positive way. So number six, tell yourself better stories.
Meditation as a Mental Health Tool
00:15:46
Speaker
Number seven, meditation. I'm sorry about that. My watch randomly just started talking to me, but that's okay.
00:15:54
Speaker
It is what it is. The one thing I like about this podcast is it's just raw. Like I don't edit it. There's been a couple episodes where like the audio kind of fucked up and I had to edit it. You know what I mean? But I just sit here and I just talk. I don't edit anything. It's just whatsoever on the top of my head. I just want to talk about and like you just heard my watch talking. Anyways, apologize about that. Number seven, meditation.
00:16:21
Speaker
Okay, I spoke about this on episode 16. I really dove deep into different types of meditation and how it can help you, but I'm not gonna dive too deep into it today, but it is a free tool that you can do to make yourself feel better. If you are a very angry person, the meditation is gonna help calm you down. If you're going through it and you wanna dive deep into a deeper connection with yourself, then meditation is there for you to do that.
00:16:51
Speaker
like breath work, you know, you can get up in the morning and do like a five minute breath work. That's just going to light a fire in your ass and make you feel fucking great. You know what I mean? It's just cause you're, you're breathing in energy and you're pushing all that pushing out all the energy. So meditation is a free tool that you can use. That is definitely going to make you feel good. Um, so number seven, meditation, number eight, cold plunging.
Cold Therapy for Resilience
00:17:18
Speaker
And if you don't have a cold plunge, take a cold shower, okay? Cold plunging for me is all about building that mental toughness, that discipline, okay? I never ever want a cold plunge. I don't want to go sit in cold water. Who the fuck wants to do that? You're a psycho if you get excited about getting in cold water. I guess I am a psycho. But yeah, if you can have
00:17:47
Speaker
Discipline and the mental toughness that just go cold plunge or stand in a shower for two minutes like really cold Everything else in the day is just gonna be better. It's just gonna be a lot lot easier You know what? I mean just say if you wake up first thing and you you just do a two or three minute cold plunge as cold as fuck Everything else in that day is just gonna seem pretty fucking easy, right? so I find that
00:18:14
Speaker
It definitely helps with your mental toughness. If you do it first thing in the morning, it's gonna wake you up. You're just gonna be really fired up. You're gonna have a lot of energy and it's good for your mental health. So, number eight, cold plunging or cold showering, whatever you got access to.
Choosing Water for Better Health
00:18:33
Speaker
Number nine, drink more water and less shit, okay? If you are drinking coffee all day long and you do not drink any water,
00:18:46
Speaker
I don't think that's really good. I don't think that's really good. I used to drink at least five to six coffees a day, which is a fucking mind blowing that I used to do that. But I used to just be so tired all the time. I would just be pounding coffees in me. And then I'd be having pre-workouts on top of that and energy drinks. Like I was just pounding caffeine into me all day long, every single day, which is actually fucked to think about like drinking a thousand milligrams of caffeine or more a day.
00:19:16
Speaker
Outrageous. Now I literally have one cup of coffee, right? And I wait. I don't have a cup of coffee first thing in the morning, right? So I have my micro dose in the morning, which is going to give me energy. But I wait about an hour and a half to two hours after I wake up and then have my cup of coffee. And I only have one a day now. That's it. One a day. The rest of the day, I'm drinking water all day long. Like you need to hydrate yourself. It's good for your skin.
00:19:44
Speaker
Like you don't, you don't want to, you don't want to get wrinkles. You know what I mean? But you definitely like just drinking water and drinking a lot of it is definitely really beneficial. If you don't drink water, the hell are you doing? Like I know some people that just drinks Pepsi's.
00:20:03
Speaker
all day long and they don't drink water. You're just drinking sugar all day long. That's not okay. I don't even understand how you function. Just be more mindful of what you're drinking and try to drink some water. I do this every single morning. I cut half a lemon. I squeeze the lemon. I have a full glass of water. I drink that with my vitamins and go on about my day. I do it every morning.
00:20:32
Speaker
Like instead of waking up and slamming a coffee, like coffee, from what they say, dehydrates, right? So, you know, if you're sleeping six to seven hours, you dehydrate. So you want to wake up and fucking slam some water and like get your nutrients in, start the day out right. So anyways, number nine, drink more butter.
Exploring Microdosing and Self-Care
00:20:57
Speaker
I got to add this microdosing, you know, I got to talk about it because it's something that's in my daily life. It's something that changed my life. It changed how I view things. It changed my perspective on things. It kind of helped me like figure out and discover a lot about myself and my past and how I used to be as a human and how my brain used to work. And I could sit here and talk for hours about how microdosing has helped me.
00:21:28
Speaker
But, you know, it's definitely beneficial. It's not for everybody. Like just take out this number 10 and just do those those nine things that I just said, which is things that we we really do every day. Like, you know, get more sleep and hydrate and surround yourself with people like journaling and stuff like just add those things to it. And I guarantee you, if you do these nine things every single day, you're going to be a lot happier.
00:21:57
Speaker
You're gonna have more energy. You're gonna feel better. And most of this stuff is free. Like everything that I wrote down here is free. Well besides eating food, but like that's your choice, right? Like you can choose to buy shitty foods or you can choose to buy healthier foods. You know what I mean?
00:22:17
Speaker
Just even if like you're you think you're eating healthy, you know, you might buy vanilla yogurt and That yogurt is just filled with sugar, right? Most people don't even think about that or you can buy plain Greek yogurt with no sugar in it and it's high in protein and then you can even add like you know a quarter of a scoop of vanilla protein in there and Then you got even more protein. It tastes amazing and it's healthy
00:22:47
Speaker
So just little things like that that people don't even notice. Like they think they're eating healthy, but then the thing is just loaded with sugar. They'll have a salad and they'll just load it with salad dressing. That's not really that great for you and kind of defeats the perfect purpose. You know what I mean? It's definitely better to eat a salad, but I'm just saying like, just notice, like start paying attention to what you're putting in your body. Just read the labels once in a while. Just have a look.
00:23:17
Speaker
Just have a look, see how much sugar's in there. Another thing too with like people buy skim milk. So skim milk actually has more sugar in it than a 3% milk. Like me personally, I think it's probably healthier
00:23:35
Speaker
to buy the two or three percent than drinking skim milk. Because if you actually read the labels, there's more sugar than skim milk. Most people don't know that. They'll have a coffee and they, you know, pour their coffee creamer that tastes like cinnamon and then that is just loaded with sugar and calories. You can buy creamers that, you know, are, has zero sugar, right? Anyways, we're getting off topic here, but
00:24:03
Speaker
I'll get back to the microdosing. Microdosing has definitely helped me 100% change my life. It's helped me become a better person, a better human, a better man. And anybody that's like struggling out there with mental health or depression or anything at all, addiction, you know, do some research. There's so much content on YouTube, on the internet,
00:24:34
Speaker
on Instagram, social media, about people talking about microdosing and their own experiences and how it's helped them. You can even go to my Instagram, Adam Pike Fitness, and I have two sections in my highlights, reviews about microcybin and how it's helped them. Just go read those.
00:24:52
Speaker
And some of those reviews are so crazy to read, because I'm like, wow, this is natural, and it grows in the ground, and it's helping people become better, instead of just taking these prescription drugs, you know what I mean? So microdosing is definitely something that I'm gonna do for the rest of my life. And when I add that to the other nine things that I just listed, it just makes you feel great. Now guys, trust me,
00:25:23
Speaker
There's days where I go through it. And there's some days that I don't feel good. And there's some days where I don't want to do any of this shit. And that's fucking okay. That's totally okay. If you're having a day and your mental health is not that great, it happened to me last Sunday. Last Sunday, I probably laid in my bed the entire day. I didn't want to do a fucking thing. There was just some things going on in my head that I needed to work out.
00:25:51
Speaker
I didn't do anything. I was on my phone all day and I was, I was watching sports all day. And from doing that, it never made me feel any better. I was just feeling the same way the entire day. Now, if I just got out of my head that day and maybe went for a walk or done something, meditated, like, you know, if I just done something about it,
00:26:18
Speaker
then I probably would have felt better, right? But I never, like it's okay to have those days, 100%. But the next day woke up was okay. I'm not, I'm not, I'm not doing that again. I'm not, I'm not fucking feeling like that again all day. So like I just got back to business. I started doing all these things again and
00:26:38
Speaker
I just snapped out of it. I just made myself better. A lot of people don't know how to do that. And when they have those days, they stay in those days. And then it goes into the next day and they're feeling like shit and they're in their head and then it goes into the next day. And then they're just digging themselves this big hole and it's really hard to come out of that fucking hole. I just posted about this on Instagram. Like once you dig yourself that hole, if you don't do anything to get out of that hole,
00:27:07
Speaker
You're gonna stay there. And that's like everybody always says, it's okay to not be okay. But if you don't fucking do anything about it and you just stay there in your shit, that's not okay. That's not okay. There's many things that we can do to make ourselves feel better on a daily basis like these 10 things I just said. Now, if you try all these 10 things and you're still not feeling good and you still have like some mental health issues,
00:27:36
Speaker
then there's professional help. You can go speak to somebody. If you don't feel comfortable with going speaking to somebody, there's these apps. There's these free call lines. There's people you can text and there's professionals that will talk to you from the comfort of your own home. So there's many, many things out there that can help you feel better today.
