Initial Demotivation and Decision to Record
00:00:00
Adam Pike
All right, I'll be real with you. I wasn't even going record this today. Like I sat there for a couple of minutes. Nothing came to me whatsoever. i didn't feel like a calling or inspired. i didn't have a message.
00:00:12
Adam Pike
And then, and honestly, for a minute, i was like, well, a few minutes, I was like, well, maybe I just won't do this today. And then I realized that right there, that is what I need to talk about with you guys today.
Introducing Mental Monday and the Hustle Dilemma
00:00:23
Adam Pike
But before we jump into it all that, Welcome back to another episode of Mental Monday. This is where um keep it real with you guys. Keep it raw. Hopefully, ah talk about something that kind of speaks to you in your week. I'm the host, Adam Pike, if you haven't been here.
00:00:38
Adam Pike
If you've been here before, thanks for coming back. And today's episode is for anybody who has felt like they should just be doing more, but didn't have it in the tank to do it.
Critique of Hustle Culture and Self-Criticism
00:00:49
Adam Pike
And instead of, you know, pushing through like a machine, i want to talk about why you know, not doing might actually be the best thing that you can do for yourself. Because let's be honest, we live in a world that everyone praises the hustle, right? If you're not grinding and constantly producing or working at at your craft, um if you're not really showing results, you like you do feel like you're falling behind, right?
00:01:13
Adam Pike
I've felt that. I have felt that in the past. I used to beat myself up, man. I used to beat myself up. There's definitely been times in my life where, you know, if if I wasn't creating, if it was post and recording, like just coming up with something, producing something, I'd honestly just beat myself up and like tell myself, you know, I was lazy or like, you know, I was i was i' getting in these ruts where like i'd I'd really be in my head and just unmotivated and like,
00:01:41
Adam Pike
You know, people say like writer's block or whatever. Like I would feel like I was in that stage where like I just didn't know what to do. I didn't know what to create. And I was just like slipping away. And like it just brought in like anxiety. this It was a whole thing. And I'm sure that you can can can relate to what I'm saying in in like – whatever you're doing in your life, right?
The Wisdom of Resting and Avoiding Burnout
00:02:03
Adam Pike
you don't have to be a content creator to to relate to what I'm saying, you know, but, but I've, what I've really learned as, as, as I've, you know, kind of got better at doing this type of stuff is rest is definitely, definitely, definitely not laziness.
00:02:19
Adam Pike
Smart. It's wisdom. You know, some of the most productive thing that you could do as an individual sometimes is nothing. Seriously, like, because here's the truth.
00:02:33
Adam Pike
When your brain is constantly on, you know, like when you're always just forcing like ideas or output, yeah you stop hearing yourself. You stop listening to what you actually need.
00:02:45
Adam Pike
Most times in that you end up burnt out, right? Uninspired, resentful of the very thing that you actually like to do.
00:02:57
Adam Pike
And I don't want that. I don't want that for me. And I definitely don't want that for you. You know? So the
Importance of Breaks and Quiet Moments
00:03:04
Adam Pike
reason why I'm recording this episode, you know even though I thought that I was just going to let just take the money off.
00:03:10
Adam Pike
You know? ah want I was like, no, I need to talk about this. Because this is exactly what I'm currently doing. Well... I'm talking about this because i need i need I need you guys to hear this, right? But I but you know i never had anything to talk about. and I was like, you know what? Let's take a break.
00:03:25
Adam Pike
Like something will come to me next week. And you know just clicked. I was like i need I need to talk about this with you guys, right? So like the reason why I'm recording this episode and anyway, even when I they didn't really feel like it is because I just want you to know that it's it's really okay to take a step back sometimes.
00:03:43
Adam Pike
It's okay to not, you know... have something profound to say every single week or, you know, with just depending on what i'm um what is happening in in your life, right?
00:03:54
Adam Pike
um You are a human and you're not, you're not a machine. You're not a machine. And it's really okay to take a break sometimes. But, you know, you do need to learn how to honor those quiet moments instead of like beating yourself up and causing yourself stress when you're, you know, when you have those pauses and the plateaus, you know, like that's the space between the inspiration that you really just need to Take a freaking break, you know, because that's where the the growth kind of improves, right? that's
Creativity Through Rest: Creating Space for Ideas
00:04:25
Adam Pike
That's where your next chapter quietly kind of writes itself when while you're you're off actually just living, resting, you know?
00:04:33
Adam Pike
So I've noticed personally that, you know, when I do give myself some space, like that's when ideas start flowing again. that not not Not because I forced them, because I let them come naturally to me.
00:04:45
Adam Pike
I created a room for them. You know, and when you have no space or room for ideas to come and they're just not going to come. Right. Like the best clarity that honestly I've ever got ah didn't come while I was just working nonstop.
00:04:58
Adam Pike
Sometimes, yes, sometimes, yes. But ah found that sometimes that ideas um and like would best come to me is maybe sitting in the silence or just going for a little walk out in nature.
00:05:12
Adam Pike
You know, just just just chilling a little bit. it it it came to win It came to me when i like I would give myself permission to kind of stop. And the thing is, like I do believe we need more of that. i'm I'm the type of person that's just go, go, go. 24-7, I'm doing stuff. My brain is just like, it's right? But like sometimes i I need a freaking rest.
00:05:37
Adam Pike
to just create that space, right? Like rest, rest doesn't mean that, you know, you lost your spark or you're you're slowing down your momentum. Like rest means that you respect it enough to kind of protect it, right?
00:05:49
Adam Pike
We always talk about being on, on, ah like in our grind era, era, right? But maybe we
Respecting Rest: Scheduling Downtime
00:05:55
Adam Pike
we need to give ourself a little bit of grace in that era, you know? So like, let me give you a few things that I've learned that might actually help you If you're in this space too, right? Just stop forcing it.
00:06:08
Adam Pike
if If nothing's flowing in life, just step back. Like your energy isn't gone. it's It's just asking for a little reset, you know, schedule some rest. You know, actually write it in your planner. If if if if you do ah have a planner, like I personally don't, but some people do, you know, make it much as a priority as your deadlines.
00:06:30
Adam Pike
Don't guilt trip yourself, you know? Seriously, nothing kills creativity faster than than just guilt and and beating yourself up and shame, you know?
00:06:41
Adam Pike
Do the things that fill you up, not drain you, okay? Like that might be movement, readings. nature, i don't know, music, silence, like whatever you need to to really fuel you back up, right, for me, i feel like that that's the gym, the gym, chilling on the weekends, you know, you need to have at least one day where you're kind of like just unwinding, just relaxing, and Watching some shows or something. Just chilling.
00:07:12
Adam Pike
And you need to really trust trust through your rhythm. you know You're not meant to be on all the time. like Nobody is. I'm going to say it again. We're not we're not a frigging robot. We're not a machine. So today, like if you're if you're feeling a little bit onpi like uninspired or you're not motivated or You're just feeling like you're just in this weird phase. You know, if if you're tired or emotionally drained or you just don't feel, you don't feel that fire.
Rest and Personal Evolution: A Refreshing Return
00:07:38
Adam Pike
Listen guys, there's no reason to panic. Cause that does not mean that you lost your passion. It means that you're actually human. It means that you're evolving, right? And evolution takes time.
00:07:52
Adam Pike
And sometimes it takes a lot of peace and quiet, right? And you don't always have to be on guys. You don't, you don't have to be, you don't have to, for me, like I don't have to post every single day.
00:08:07
Adam Pike
You don't like, you know what I mean? But so like before, and if I don't, and if I get busy doing other things and I don't post or, you know, if I if i don't have a recipe that ah that i that I want to cook, I just don't do it.
00:08:21
Adam Pike
ah just don't do it. I know that I should do it, but like... Sometimes when we're just in that feeling, like I was this morning when I was sitting down and thinking about sometimes some title that or some something that I should talk about, like I really had nothing that ah that really was coming to me to talk about.
00:08:42
Adam Pike
there's There's been times where like I haven't done an episode on this podcast for for months. And it's just I just never really felt a calling to do it. never like I just they didn't want to talk about anything. And and that's totally fine.
00:08:56
Adam Pike
That's totally fine. I totally get it being consistent. Like if I really wanted to grow this this podcast, you know I need to put a lot of work into it. You need to be consistent with it. You need to keep showing up, right? But there's just been times where I just didn't want to do that.
00:09:10
Adam Pike
And it's totally fine. And ah lately I've been, I've been back. I've been, been present. I've been doing these episodes, right? So you just need to give yourself a little bit of a little bit more space, right? Like sometimes you just need to rest and reflect and just let it all come back when it's ready to come back. Because when it doesn't come back, it will come back louder, clearer, stronger.
00:09:32
Adam Pike
and That's, that's for damn sure, you know? So like,
00:09:39
Adam Pike
Have you ever gone on it yeah just for example, have you ever gone on a trip before? And then when you come back from that trip, like you're just kind of, more light and happy and just, just, you just got a lot of energy from the trip. I don't know about you. Some people get the, the, the, um, what do they call it? Like after the trip kind of depression type of thing, but there's definitely been times where, you know, I've gotten to Mexico and i've I've come back and I'm just like, I'm just on, I'm so excited. And like, I just like, can't wait to get back to creating and all this stuff. Right. It's,
00:10:09
Adam Pike
it's I needed that downtime. I needed the time with my friends. I needed the time to really like just decompress and like, you know, sometimes we just, we need
Stepping Away for Clarity
00:10:19
Adam Pike
that. Even even if it's just for 30 minutes of the day, just to like put the phone away, just step away from your job or just freaking breathe for a second. Like this is sometimes it's just all we need.
00:10:31
Adam Pike
And like, i know this is way off topic, but um it just came to my mind. I want to talk about it. You know, sometimes if you're in the heat of the moment in an argument or i don't know, if there's just some sort of chaos in your life, like sometimes all you actually really need is to just step away from the situation and really just take a frigging breath.
00:10:52
Adam Pike
Just quiet yourself for a second into the nose, out of the mouth. Really? Like the I promise you sometimes if when you're in the chaos, Some people just don't know how to step away from it. The best thing you can do is just step away and just go be by yourself and just chill for a bit.
00:11:13
Adam Pike
Revisit the situation 20 minutes, an hour, two hours, three hours, the next day, even. Some people need more time, right? But
Worth Beyond Productivity: Embracing Rest
00:11:24
Adam Pike
I just want, just, I just want this to be your little reminder today that, you know, your worth is not measured about how much you do every single day, how much you produce, much work you get done, um, how much you've done for other people. Like, you know, you are still valuable in your rest and you are still growing in the quiet and maybe,
00:11:46
Adam Pike
Maybe that stillness, you know, that pause is the most important part of the process. Don't beat yourself up. It's okay. It's okay to to just have a little block sometimes. Take a little rest. If if whatever you're doing in life...
00:12:03
Adam Pike
if If you're not really that motivated or inspired or like, I don't know, maybe maybe that's just your body telling you to just take care of yourself. You know, just but just relax a little bit.
00:12:13
Adam Pike
Like give gave yourself some permission to just be quiet. just Just chill. Because that next wave of creativity, it's going to come. It's going to be on its way.
00:12:27
Adam Pike
So, you know, you know just have to, you just have to be still enough sometimes to actually hear it.
