This week’s Mental Monday hit different. I came across an old video about losing yourself and honestly, it still hit me today. Then I found my first ever recipe video… and yeah, it was rough. But looking back, it reminded me of something we all forget sometimes:

You don’t need to change everything around you to feel happy again. You just need to keep showing up for yourself.

Let’s dive into this one.

Introduction and Weekly Wishes

00:00:00
Speaker
What's up, everybody? Welcome back to another Mental Money episode on the Unlocking with Adam Pike podcast. Hope you guys doing good. Hope your weekend was good. but most importantly, i hope that this week starts off with a banger.
00:00:13
Speaker
And this episode, I think, is going to be a

Searching for Happiness: External vs. Internal

00:00:15
Speaker
banger. So I came across one of my old videos. i like yeah I don't know if if you can relate to this, but like you ever come across something that doesn't have to be a video, just something in the past, like an old written note or something that really just hits, like hits in a different way.
00:00:32
Speaker
Now, this video kind of... hit me hard and i was what I wasn't really expecting it, you know, and it's basically about me talking about when, you know, you start to lose yourself, you're you're you're searching for happiness in other places, you know, in in new people, new things, new distractions, because you think that you've got to change everything around you to start to feel good again. But the truth is, it's not about changing what's around you.
00:00:57
Speaker
It's about reconnecting with what's inside you. Yo, listening to this. i was like, man, um

Reconnecting with Self through Old Habits

00:01:03
Speaker
I was talking some shit back then, man. This might have been ah year and a half, two years ago.
00:01:11
Speaker
wasn't that long ago. But i was like, yo, this this video really hit. And because, like, even though, you know, I made that video couple years ago, um i i guess it's it's something that I still kind of catch myself doing sometimes.
00:01:26
Speaker
Like, thinking that I maybe... I need something new to feel happy again. When really, really, all I really need to do is just slow down and come back to myself again.
00:01:38
Speaker
Right? um it's It's kind of wild how we forget that happiness doesn't come from like switching things up all the time. We think, oh, like maybe we need a new routine. um Maybe I got to move.
00:01:51
Speaker
You know, maybe I just need some new friends, right? And and sometimes that change is good. Don't get me wrong. Don't get me wrong. But a lot of the time, it's not about changing everything. It's about showing up again for the stuff that already made you feel grounded in the first place.
00:02:05
Speaker
wow adam
00:02:09
Speaker
Now, you ever notice that you know when you start to lose yourself, you might stop like doing the things that used to make you happy. Like simply just going for a walk. Going to the gym.
00:02:21
Speaker
You stop cooking for yourself. You stop creating. You stop going for drives. You stop journaling. and and or or Or even doing those small things that always made you feel more like you. You just stop doing it.
00:02:33
Speaker
You ever notice that? Did you ever notice that, guys? Now... Then when we, like, you know, when we wonder why we feel like, what like why are we disconnected? It's because we've disconnected from ourselves, you know?
00:02:49
Speaker
Now, I think the hardest part of, like, self-growth is realizing that you know sometimes the answers are not new. They are old things that we stop doing. you know The music that we used to listen to, the people that we used to call, the habits that you know made the day feel like your day.
00:03:11
Speaker
And it's it's kind of funny because... You know, the same idea kind of showed up again last night, but like in in a totally different way. um i

The Journey of Content Creation Begins

00:03:20
Speaker
wanted to scroll back and see like, like what was my first cooking video?
00:03:24
Speaker
Right. So I'm scrolling and I'm scrolling and I'm scrolling. And um I think it was in 2021. My very, my very first like recipe that I put together and it was pancakes.
00:03:38
Speaker
Right. And oh my, oh my God. was so cringe. It was so rough. Like, the quality was just bad. lighting was bad. Audio was off. The hook, oh, my God.
00:03:49
Speaker
The hook, like, literally took so long. And I was, like, talking in, like, this weird way. And I was like, today is your lucky day. Because I'm going to show you how to make my favorite pink. Like, it just went on and on and on and on. The video was, like, I think it was, like, almost four minutes.
00:04:08
Speaker
And, oh, it was just, it was bad. It was bad. But the thing is, like, back then, i thought that that was the best video I ever made. And, i like, I remember posting it and, like, being being proud of it and being like, yo, this is the one.
00:04:26
Speaker
But, like, when I look back at it now, i like i laugh at it. And, like, I'm like, oh, my God, it's so cringe. But the more, like, I started to really think about that,
00:04:38
Speaker
the more I realized how much I actually really loved this video. And like, yeah, i'm going to make fun of myself, but like, it's, it's because i was starting, you know, that like, that was me showing up for myself when I, I didn't even know what I was doing really, but I did it anyway.
00:04:58
Speaker
And like, I'm sure if I go back and look at like, I'm sure there's a lot of videos that I posted that was just like, Oh my, But back then I thought, this was know? This was it. Now...
00:05:10
Speaker
you know this was it now If I never made that cringy pan pancake video, like I don't think i'd I'd be here where I am right now. if find if If I never just continued to keep putting myself out there and choosing myself, I wouldn't have gotten better lighting, better gear.
00:05:30
Speaker
you know i know my flow now. My editing's tight. But none of that came overnight. It came from showing up over and over and over even when it wasn't perfect.
00:05:43
Speaker
And that that that's when it

Consistency Over Perfection in Growth

00:05:44
Speaker
kind of hit me that that's exactly how life works. It's not about doing everything perfectly. It's about doing doing it consistently, right? And like that cringey video, that was me just showing up.
00:05:59
Speaker
I like I had a bigger vision in my head. i i i remember back then I was like, you know, like i' I'm going to make it one day. And I wouldn't say I'm i'm ahm making it right now.
00:06:12
Speaker
but I'm seeing a lot more engagement, a lot more views, a lot more growth. Videos are getting better, right? So it's like I just stayed consistent with myself.
00:06:23
Speaker
Now, whether it's, you know, creating content, ah taking care of your mental health, or just trying to feel like, you know, yourself again. build build Build a relationship with someone. It all comes down to to literally just showing up, you know?
00:06:37
Speaker
You don't need to go, like, reinvent yourself every time you feel lost. You don't need to go scrape everything and and just, you know, start fresh. You need to keep showing up for the stuff that matters, even if it's messy, even if you're not even ready, even if you don't see the progress that you're you're you're wanting to see in that moment.
00:06:59
Speaker
Right. Like I, when I scroll back, man, my videos were terrible for so long. I thought they were amazing. But like, maybe they are good, but comparing it to the videos that I'm posting now compared it's to 2021, way way more... Like, it's just just it's just... You can't even compare the two, you know?
00:07:21
Speaker
so Like when I will look back at that old pancake video, like it reminds me that like we we literally all have to start somewhere. And that somewhere might might look bad at first.
00:07:32
Speaker
You might think it's great, but it's like not that good, you know? But if you keep showing up, like one day you're going look back and realize like how fucking far you've come. And not because everything around you changed, but because you did.
00:07:46
Speaker
You kept showing up for you. You kept working at your craft. You kept getting better. You know, and it's it's funny, like I was sitting down, every time I sit down for this podcast, I'm like, why am I doing this?
00:07:59
Speaker
Right? Why am I doing this? But like, if I if i look back to when I first started this podcast, I think it might have been 2022, 2023, 2022. twenty twenty two twenty twenty three I'm not sure.
00:08:11
Speaker
um But i I feel like the episodes have gotten better. um i hope so. But, you know, if it's it's like I started to think about that pancake video. And I'm like, okay, well, geez, look at my videos now. Maybe if I just stick with this podcast thing, maybe you might get it a lot better over the future. I i don't know, right? But, like, you really just got to stick with it, right?
00:08:37
Speaker
Now, it's kind of like the same thing, like... You know, when you start to lose yourself, like you don't you don't you don't find yourself in a new city or a new person or a new job. You find yourself by doing the same small things that brings you peace and doing them again and again and again and again until you start to feel like you.
00:09:02
Speaker
there's been ah There's been a few times in my life, definitely, where I have just been so lost and um, you know like long time ago I would just turn to like drinking, partying, going out, um you know, in and out of relationships. Like it was, it was, it's just like, i was always looking for something.
00:09:22
Speaker
Right. But what I didn't realize is like, i just needed to like do things over and over and over to just really find myself and, and bring that happiness from within.
00:09:37
Speaker
Right. So, you know Maybe today's reminder is just like just don't just don't give up. don't Don't give up because it just feels slow right now. Or don't give up because

Persistence and Diverse Career Path

00:09:50
Speaker
you know you you you think that, oh my God, this this relationship is failing. you know Don't give up because you think your job right now is is just not... so i don't like You get what I'm saying, right? If you just you stick with it,
00:10:04
Speaker
And you keep getting better at it. Keep getting better at at the relationship with your wife or your husband. Keep getting better at your job. but where's it like Where is that going to lead you? it's kind of You're just going to be more happier in that relationship.
00:10:17
Speaker
You know might get a promotion at your job. But like what I'm saying is like don't give up just because something feels slow right now. Because if I stop making those videos, I always had a bigger picture in my head of where I was going on on social media. And I was like, I just know it.
00:10:37
Speaker
and And it's funny enough that I talk about this because, you know, um for those of you who don't know, I was on Big Brother Canada season seven. And I tried it for five years in a row. And the first year, was like, man, this is it.
00:10:52
Speaker
I'm making it. So confident in myself, didn't make it. Didn't even get a callback, right? But I was like, no, I i know that I'm going to be on this fucking show. Try out second year. I get a callback this time.
00:11:04
Speaker
Did a phone interview, didn't go anywhere. Third year comes along, I'm like, okay, what the hell do I got to do here, right? Gets a callback again, then I made it to the next stage. I'm like, oh, I'm going to Then going to call back.
00:11:18
Speaker
Fourth year. Fifth year comes around. And I'm still in that same mindset. Like, did they just got to pick me. They just got to pick me. And they did pick me. And I excelled on that show.
00:11:30
Speaker
um You know, i won like seven competitions. um I think we, anyways, I don't need to ramble on ah on that, but it's just like I had a bigger picture in my head.
00:11:41
Speaker
Same with what do I did when i was when I started creating content. I just had this picture in my head. I didn't know where it was going, but I'm like, I know that I can make something of this on social media. And now this is my full-time job.
00:11:54
Speaker
Crazy. Never in a million years. and I was a welder. I did heavy equipment operating. I did chemical cleaning. I was a laborer. um What else did I do? like i i had so many different jobs. and I was worked in oil fields.
00:12:09
Speaker
I was all over the place. you know Did landscaping landscaping for a while. Worked in the fish plant. but what Would what the little boy at 14 years old working in the fish plant think that he he would be doing full-time online, working from home, creating videos that loves doing?
00:12:28
Speaker
Not a frigging chance. Not a chance, man, but like it's just, just keep showing up, you know? Just keep showing up. Keep showing up for your goals. Keep showing up for your peace.
00:12:40
Speaker
You know, i'll keep showing up for your routines, your art, your passions, your people. But most importantly, you got to keep showing up for you. Always. never Never stop showing up for you.
00:12:51
Speaker
And if you find yourself losing yourself a little bit, don't, don't. look Look elsewhere for your happiness because you're never fucking going to find it. And trust me, swearing because spent a long time looking for that happiness.
00:13:09
Speaker
You know? And I really, i i do strongly believe, I don't... i don't I did. I started doing plant medicine, like microdose of mushrooms. And i actually went to Costa Rica, did ayahuasca. and And I really strongly do believe that this stuff really opened me up.
00:13:27
Speaker
It opened up my mind, opened my heart to really like look within myself and um just kind of be be more acceptive of changing and learning more about me and falling in love with me.
00:13:40
Speaker
I really do believe that. I'm not saying that everybody needs to do that now, but the I just spent a long time you know just looking elsewhere for happiness instead of just looking within. you know Because every time you show up, even if it's just small, even when nobody's watching, you know you're stacking that progress. You're building something.
00:14:02
Speaker
You might not see it today. might not see it the next day, next year. But like one day, you're literally going to look back. If you just stick with whatever you're doing, like I did with that freaking pancake video, you're going to realize how far that you have come.
00:14:17
Speaker
And it's not because...

Final Encouragement and Goodbyes

00:14:18
Speaker
You found something new is because you never stopped showing up for yourself. Right. So anyways, that's where my mind was at this morning. Um, if this video or this video, if this episode hit you, um, if you think about something, you know, that, that you used to love doing, but you kind of let go of that.
00:14:42
Speaker
Maybe today you pick that back up. you know Do like one small thing for yourself today. Something that reminds you of like who the fuck you are. Now, if the fit is this if this video hit, make sure to send it, share it to a friend, share it on your social media, tag me.
00:15:00

00:15:31
Speaker
