Kickstarting the New Year with Motivation

Welcome back to Unlocking with Adam Pike. This is my mental Monday series where we kick off the week with a dose of motivation to set the tone for the week. But most importantly, happy freaking New Year. The first episode of 2025. I'm really looking forward to locking in and bringing some meaningful conversations to you guys um moving forward into this year because I know that it motivates some of you guys and it even motivates myself when I do these podcasts because I listen to it back when I like normally I'll do the episode I'll go to the gym I'll listen to the whole thing back and I'm like damn you're right

you're right so today's episode um it's it's about something i think we all struggle with staying focused and driven especially when the pressure is off because we've all had those moments where we are locked in laser focused because we had to be because we had to be that's the key thing here you know maybe it was a big deadline maybe you know rent was coming up and and money was tight or maybe it was just a personal challenge like We've all felt that pressure and we made it work, didn't we? But when things settle down, you know, that drive that we just had a second ago starts to fade and then we ease back into getting comfortable.

Now, you know, I was actually thinking about this today because I was walking the dog and you know, it's January the sixth.

the holidays are over and I'm still like kind of like you know and I'm like yeah Adam like yours this time to it's time to lock the fuck back in now um the holidays is over January 6th it's not it's not Christmas anymore um I want to give you an example of when I really had a fire lit up in my ass and then I kind of died off um when I was on Canada's Ultimate Challenge, like when I was preparing to go on Canada's Ultimate Challenge. Anybody who's new on this podcast, I've been on a couple of reality shows, Big Brother, Canada's Ultimate Challenge, and basically when I was training for the Canada's Ultimate Challenge, and even and Big Brother, I i was really locked in.

Like just imagine Just imagine the progress that we would make if we stayed in that zone, that laser focus zone all day, every day, 365. Just imagine, because this is what I was thinking about today when I was walking on the road. I'm like, man, yeah you always go so hard at stuff. And I get it.

I totally get it, we need breaks. Trust me, we need breaks. I'm all for the breaks and, you know, resetting and getting your energy back and stuff. But like, I just know if I had that fire up in my ass like I did going into Candles of the Challenge all year long, man, I would do some damage. And that's what I want. That's what I'm striving for. Like even when I'm really pushing to like save money, right?

I find that you know i I start doing really good with saving the money. right i'm ah I'm putting money away, I'm putting money in some stocks and stuff like that. But then when I get to a certain point where I'm like, oh shit, like fuck, I've saved i quite a bit of money lately, then I don't save as much. And I just kind of go buy stuff and I do this and I go on a trip. And it's i just in that continuous cycle. right like if But if I locked in,

From Crisis to Comfort: The Focus Shift

comfort zone we all know what that is right you know when the stakes are high like when rent is due or you don't have enough money you you hustle you find those extra hours if you work overtime you cut back you do whatever it takes but once the crisis is over

take a big breath, big relief, we get comfortable, go back to the kind the the comfortness, right? Like I noticed i notice this, I did this myself, right? um Like I just mentioned, um the holidays.

I was just continuing to go in with the holidays. I understand Rebecca literally just went back to work today for school, but there's no reason why I couldn't have done things. I was just making excuses and letting the days go on by. I was just getting in this little comfortable thing. She went to work today. I was like,

Not for that. but We got to lock in. We got to lock in. We got to get back to that laser focus because that's when I do my best work. But when I start getting comfortable and I let that comfort feeling continue and continue, then I just i just get lazy. I'll be honest. I just get freaking lazy. So like how how the hell do we fix this? How do we stay driven even while life feels stable?

Strategies for Sustained Focus and Momentum

you know here i'm mean I'm just going to share three strategies that I'm working on to stay locked in. right Create your own deadline. We all perform better under pressure. Would you agree? so Why not create some for yourself? If you are working towards a goal, break it into smaller time-bound tasks.

You know, for example, instead of saying, I'll get in shape this year, set a fricking goal to work out four times a week and meal prep every Sunday. You know, like like give yourself some pressure. When I'm creating content, like I give myself many deadlines. I'll say like, you know, I need this this script to be done by Tuesday and filmed by Thursday. If those deadlines, like those deadlines will keep me accountable, even if there's no external pressure. And here's the thing, like when you meet those smaller goals, that's when you fricking build momentum. And the momentum is what's gonna carry you forward.

But if there's no pressure, there's no goal, you're just nonchalant about everything. I find that's when you start getting really freaking comfortable now, don't you? Another thing. but We need to visualize the bigger picture sometimes. Sometimes like we lose focus because we lose sight of why we even freaking started in the first place. So just take a moment to visualize the goal that you want.

Just close your eyes. Imagine that it's it's it' back to December 31st and you've stayed laser focused all year long. What does your life look like? How does it feel? All year long you were locked the fuck in. Imagine the progress you would make on your life. Like for me,

I just picture myself just crushing the content, you know having a bigger impact on social media. and then feeling proud of the progress that I've made on myself. Growing growing my social media page, you know landing more bigger brand deals. like that's That's what I'm envisioning for 2025 is me just really kinda getting better at the content, getting better at filming, getting better at all the production, everything, and just growing my page and blowing the fuck up. Because I know when that happens that that that comes with more

sponsorships, um, more brand deals, um, you know, more relationships with, with people that you're going to connect with. Like a lot comes with, with, with the work, you know what I'm saying? So like, that's, that's kind of like where I picture myself.

The Role of Visualization and Celebrating Small Wins

it's It's not all about perfection. This is so important because too often we get discouraged about what we're not, you know, not seeing those results fast enough. But the progress, that matters, right? Because it's sometimes we just need to pat ourselves on the back sometimes.

You know, celebrate the small wins, whether it's just sticking to your workout plan for one week or saving a hundred bucks towards your goal or just showing up to go to the gym, whatever the frick it is, right? Perfection isn't the goal. Consistency is. And consistency compounds over time. Those small wins, they do add up for big results. I say this all the time and that's what's gonna keep you going.

Now, I want you to think about a time when you were locked in laser focus. Maybe it was crunch time at work or you were preparing for a big event or you had to meet a tight deadline. How did you feel during that time? How did you feel and what did you achieve?

Now imagine if you had that level of focus every single day, even when there wasn't a crisis, you still were locked in every day. What would you accomplish in six months, in a year? Let that thought motivate you to take action today, okay? Like just reevaluate your life.

Think about what you got going on. Think about what your goals are, what you want in life, where you wanna go. And remember that feeling when you when something was, you were pressed up against the wall and you just had to go and you made it happen. We always make it happen, right? We always make excuses all the time, but like when it comes down to it and we're stuck in the corner, we make shit happen now, don't we? We always do. I know I do. And I know you can too.

So here's my challenge to you this week. Just pick one area of your life that you've been slacking. Maybe it's your health, maybe it's your finances, personal goal, whatever it is, something that you've been avoiding. Decide ah one small step that you can take today to refocus and start building that momentum. Because like I said, momentum propels you forward. I'm gonna be doing this right, I'm i'm doing this right alongside you.
