In today's reading we will read Psalm 44:1-8, Psalm 107:1-31, and Psalm 118:1, 5-6, 8-16, 19-24, 28-29. There is a central theme throughout the three psalms that we read today: Let us praise God, who saves us and whose love for us lasts forever. Wherever we are, whatever happens, God is with us and saves us! Let us be glad, praise Him, and thank Him for the wonderful things He does! God loves us so much He even sent Jesus to die for us, to pay the cost for our sins. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and Jesus saved us from spiritual death and separation from God. Thank you, Jesus and thank you God for loving us and saving us!  Thank you that your love for us lasts forever. We could talk about how great God is all day long! Today is the day that God has made. Let us show our joy and be glad today! Let us treat God as the most important one today and every day.

00:01:07
Speaker
and That would be a pen, I guess, or a crayon. Because guess what? You're about to hear the Bible today.
00:01:17
Speaker
Today, we are going to be reading a few Psalms. Since our Bible is put together chronologically, this us these particular Psalms that we are going to be reading today were written at this time.
00:01:32
Speaker
They are Psalm 44, Psalm 107, Psalm 118.
00:01:40
Speaker
And then tomorrow we will have a few more Psalms.
00:01:45
Speaker
Just to give us a reminder, we are almost finished with the Old Testament. In August, I think it's on the 17th, so a little less than a month, we will be starting the New Testament.
00:02:02
Speaker
Isn't that exciting? The Old Covenant is longer than the New Covenant, and we are ah taking it takes us eight months almost to get through the entire Old Covenant.

Old and New Covenant Discussion

00:02:16
Speaker
It's a little more accurate to say covenant versus testament because that's what they were. The first section of the Bible was considered, is considered, God's old covenant, his first covenant that he made with his people.
00:02:32
Speaker
And when he had Jesus come for us, that is his new covenant. So I just try to be a little more precise there. So today we are going to be reading some beautiful Psalms.
00:02:48
Speaker
And even though ah they are all different, they still have one central theme.

Divine Victory in Psalm 44

00:02:54
Speaker
So you can really see where the heart is and for the people now that they have returned to Jerusalem and they have rebuilt the temple.
00:03:04
Speaker
We are going to see love and gratitude for God and his great love and his provision.
00:03:15
Speaker
So let's start in today with Psalm 44 and it is entitled, My Bow and My Sword.
00:03:26
Speaker
Our fathers from long ago told what you did. You planted your people in their land. You made your people grow strong. They didn't win the land by swords.
00:03:41
Speaker
They didn't win by their strong arms. The power of your right hand won for them. The light of your face was on them and they won.
00:03:55
Speaker
And it's all because you loved your people.
00:04:01
Speaker
You are my king and my God. It's by your name that we win. don't trust in my bow and arrow. You, my my sword, does not make me win.
00:04:16
Speaker
You make us win over our enemies. We talk about how great God is all day long. We will praise your name forever.
00:04:31
Speaker
it sounds a little bit like what we heard yesterday where God ah spoke to zechariah And told him to tell Zerubbabel that it was not by his own might that he was strong, but it was by God.
00:04:48
Speaker
And the people are recognizing this, that it was not by their own strength and their own bow and arrow and their own sword that they conquered the land that God gave them to live in.
00:05:02
Speaker
It was by God's grace and God fighting the battles for them because they were few and the people who inhabited those nations were many. What looked to be impossible for man was not impossible for God.

God's Deliverance in Psalm 107

00:05:20
Speaker
I love how they acknowledge and say, we talk about how great God is all day long. We will praise your name forever.
00:05:32
Speaker
That is a very important thing. And i think that that's a wonderful thing to do today, don't you? God does so many things for us every day. we could talk about how great he is all day long.
00:05:47
Speaker
We will praise his name
00:05:59
Speaker
gift to god He is good. His love lasts forever. Let the people that God saved say so.
00:06:11
Speaker
He saved people from many lands. Some people went here and there in the desert. They could not find a city to stay in.
00:06:23
Speaker
They were hungry and thirsty. Then they called to God and he saved them. He led them on a road that did not turn.
00:06:37
Speaker
He led them to a city where they could stay. So let them thank God for his love that lasts forever. Let them thank him for the wonderful things he does.
00:06:51
Speaker
He gives thirsty people a drink. He fills hungry people with good things.
00:06:58
Speaker
Some people sat in the dark. They were in jail with chains on. They had not obeyed God. They did not think God was important.
00:07:12
Speaker
So they had to work hard. When they fell, there was nobody to help them up.
00:07:20
Speaker
Then they called to God and he saved them. He took them out of the dark. He broke their chains.
00:07:31
Speaker
So let them thank God for his love that lasts forever. Let them thank him for the wonderful things that he does.
00:07:43
Speaker
He breaks down metal gates. He cuts through iron bars.
00:07:51
Speaker
Other people sailed ships on the sea. They took loads of things to sell to other lands. They saw the wonderful things God did in the deep sea.
00:08:05
Speaker
God spoke and brought a storm. He made waves jump up high. The ship tossed as high as the sky.
00:08:17
Speaker
Then it went down deep. The people were in danger and their boldness seemed to melt away. They tripped and fell as if they were drunk.
00:08:30
Speaker
Then they called to God and he saved them. He turned the storm into a whisper. He made the waves be quiet.
00:08:44
Speaker
The people were glad when the sea was still. God took them to a safe place on land. So let them thank God for his love that lasts forever.
00:09:00
Speaker
Let them thank him for the wonderful things he has done.

Enduring Love in Psalm 118

00:09:07
Speaker
God is the God who saves, isn't he? God saves us from everything. He saved us from our sin. He saved us from death. God is so gracious.
00:09:20
Speaker
He is our hero. He saves us from everything.
00:09:28
Speaker
Our last Psalm is Psalm 118 and Karen Henley has entitled it, God's Right Hand.
00:09:39
Speaker
Give thanks to God, he is good. His love lasts forever.
00:09:48
Speaker
I was upset, I called to God. He answered me and set me free.
00:09:57
Speaker
God is with me. i will not be afraid. What can people do to me? It's better to trust in God than to trust in people.
00:10:12
Speaker
All the nations came to fight me, but I won in God's name. They were like bees around me, but they burned out like weeds on fire.
00:10:27
Speaker
They pushed me back and I almost fell. But God helped me. God makes me strong.
00:10:39
Speaker
He saves me. Shouts of joy come from the tents of people who do what is right. They say, God's right hand has done powerful things.
00:10:54
Speaker
Open the gates to what is right. I will go in and give thanks to God. People who do what is right may go in.
00:11:07
Speaker
i will thank you, God, because you answered me. You saved me.
00:11:17
Speaker
There was a stone that builders didn't want. Now that stone holds up the whole building. God made this happen.
00:11:29
Speaker
We think it's wonderful. This is the day that God has made. Let's show our joy and be glad in it today.
00:11:42
Speaker
You are my God. I will thank you. i will treat you as the most important one. Give thanks to God.
00:11:56
Speaker
He is good and his love lasts forever.
00:12:03
Speaker
my gosh, I could not be any more excited. Today, and that is the last of our reading for today. That's the end of our reading today. Did you recognize some famous verses in there that we are well acquainted with?
00:12:19
Speaker
Did you recognize Jesus in that Psalm?
00:12:24
Speaker
Isn't that amazing? There was a stone that builders didn't want. That was Jesus. Now that stone holds up the whole building.
00:12:38
Speaker
God made this happen. Nothing is impossible with God, is it?
00:12:45
Speaker
We think it's wonderful.
00:12:49
Speaker
This is the day that God has made. Let's show our joy and be glad today. I love that verse. We say it, usually say it a little bit differently.
00:13:00
Speaker
We say, this is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
00:13:08
Speaker
Give thanks to God. He is good. His love lasts forever. That was in every one of the Psalms that we read today. So I bet you know today's daily application.
00:13:24
Speaker
Let us give thanks to God, not just today, but every day. he is so good. His love lasts for forever. God is love.
00:13:37
Speaker
His love has no boundaries. He loves everybody. He loves you. He loves me. And he loves us so, so, so much that he sent us his one and only son that whoever would believe in him would not die.
00:13:54
Speaker
We have physical death, but not spiritual death. And so we transition into existence with God.
00:14:04
Speaker
He loves us so much that whoever believes in him will not have death, but will have eternal life with him.

Daily Gratitude and Sharing Love

00:14:12
Speaker
There is nothing more joyous than that.
00:14:15
Speaker
We should be so thankful to God every day. He has saved us. Jesus has saved us from the penalty of death for our sins.
00:14:27
Speaker
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
00:14:33
Speaker
Our God is so wonderful. Let's give thanks to him today, especially in our daily application. Let's remember to give thanks to him every day.
00:14:45
Speaker
Be glad in every day that he has given us. Every day is a day that God has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it. God gives us purpose every day.
00:14:58
Speaker
he has set good works ahead of time for us to do every day. not not laborious bad things, but good works. He wants us to think about things that are happy every day.
00:15:14
Speaker
And even just remembering how much God loves us is something to be joyful about every single day. His mercy is new every day. He's not angry with us.
00:15:28
Speaker
He loves us. He loves see you. he loves me. is just so wonderful how gracious and loving and forgiving and faithful our God is.
00:15:41
Speaker
And that is our daily application today. So if that didn't light your light, I don't know what will. So I know that lit your light today.
00:15:53
Speaker
Let us be thankful for God and show our gratefulness to him. This is God's event. It's not mine. I'm just trying to help spread the word about reading God's word.
00:16:04
Speaker
God wants us to know how much he loves us. And we can help spread that love, of the knowledge of that love, by clicking that light button, which looks like a thumbs up.
00:16:17
Speaker
It looks like a heart, but it's really a light. We are the light of the world. And I know God has lit your light today. How could it not with such joyful things to think about?
00:16:29
Speaker
Let's help other people be attracted to this event so that they can hear God's word and know to be thankful for what God has done for us. because his love lasts forever.
00:16:42
Speaker
I want everybody to know that. So thank you for joining me today. i hope you have a fantastic rest of your day, whatever it is you are doing today on this July 26th.
00:16:54
Speaker
And I will be here for everyone again tomorrow for tomorrow's daily reading through the Day by Day Kids Bible, written by Karen Henley.
