We are going to get right into it today.
The Temptation of Jesus

We are going to be seeing amazing things, as I mentioned. And I cannot wait to talk about them. I am tempted to talk about them before we even start.

That's how much I want to talk about them.

Today, we are going to see Satan, the accuser. Now, it's interesting because in... um In the Hebrew, it's actually sometimes his name is called Hasatan, which means the accuser.

He is the accuser. Satan is not a name like like Pearl or Ruby or or Joshua or Jacob or Robin or Julie. it it is not a name. It's a title.

He is the accuser. So we are going to be seeing the accuser accusing Jesus today.

Now I wanna let us know in time. So we know that our Bible is in chronological order. We know that we're reading the events in order, but sometimes things go for a little bit of time right after they've happened and then the events are recorded.

It might be, you know, an event that happens later on down the line. But in this instance, we have just read about the baptism of Jesus yesterday. And we saw that when Jesus was baptized,

He saw heaven opened and God's spirit came down like a dove and landed on Jesus. And God said in a voice, this is my son.

I love him. I am very happy with him. So immediately after these events happened, now the spirit has led Jesus into the desert.

The Spirit led Jesus into the desert, and that is where Satan tried to make Jesus do wrong. Jesus went without food for 40 days and 40 nights.

He was fasting. This is a very long fast. He was hungry, and then the Satan came to him. Are you really God's He asked.

Then why don't you turn the rocks into bread? And here is what Jesus told Satan. God's word says that people don't live just by eating bread.

They live by believing every word God says.

Then Satan took Jesus to Jerusalem, and they stood on the tallest part of the worship house. If you really are God's son, jump off.

said satan god's word said that his angels will keep you safe and god will tell them to lift you up in their hands and you won't even hit your foot on a rock but jesus gave but this answer to satan god's word also says not to test the word the lord your god

Then Satan took Jesus to a high mountain and he showed Jesus the riches of all the world's kingdoms. I will give all of this to you, said Satan.

Just bow down and worship me. Get away from me, Satan, said Jesus. God's word says to worship only the Lord your God.

Serve only him. And then Satan left and angels came and took care of him. Jesus.
John the Baptist's Testimony

Who is John?

Speaker
We're talking about John the Baptist. Now the Jews in Jerusalem sent some men to John. They were sent to ask John who he was. I am not the promised one, said John.

Then who are you? They asked. Are you Elijah? No, he said. Are you the prophet? They asked.

No, he said. At last they asked, who are What should we tell the men who sent us? And John answered with some of the prophet Isaiah's words.

He said, I am a voice calling in the desert. I say to make a flat road for God. Make the way straight for the Lord. Some Jewish leaders were there.

Why do you dip people in water? They asked him. You are not the promised one or Elijah the prophet or the prophet. It is true that I baptize people in water, said John, but there is someone here who will come after me and I'm not even good enough to untie his shoes.

Now the very next day, John saw Jesus coming. Look, said John, it's the Lamb of God. and this is the man that I was talking about. I told you that a man would come after I did, said John.

He is greater than I am. He lived before I lived. I didn't know him myself, but I came to dip people in water. And I've been doing it to show God's people who he is Then John told what had happened.

I saw God's spirit coming like a dove from heaven and it stayed on him. wouldn't have known he was the one, said John, but God sent me to dip people in water and he said that I would see the Holy Spirit come down and stay on one man.

And then I would know he was the one. and he is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit. I saw it, said John, so I know this is God's son.

The next day, John was there at the same place, and this time two of John's followers were with him. One of them was Andrew. John saw Jesus going by, and so John said, Look, it's the Lamb of God!

Andrew and his friend heard what John said. So they followed Jesus. Jesus turned around and saw them. What do you want? He asked.

Teacher, we want to know where you are staying, they said. Well, come and see, said Jesus. So they went with him and they saw where Jesus was staying. And it was about four o'clock in the afternoon.

They spent the rest of the day with Jesus. At the end of the day, they left. And right away, Andrew went to go get his brother. We met the promised one, Andrew said.

And then he took his brother to meet Jesus too.
Recognizing Jesus

Jesus took a good look at Andrew's brother. He said, your name is Simon, but I am going to call you Peter, the rock.

Jesus wanted to go to Galilee the next day, and he saw Philip and said, come with me. Now, Philip was from the same town as Andrew and Peter, and Philip went to go find Nathaniel.

And Philip said, we found the man Moses wrote about. He's the one the prophets wrote about too. His name is Jesus and he's from Nazareth. Nazareth, said Nathaniel.

Can anything good come from Nazareth? Come and find out, said Philip. So Nathaniel went with Philip.

Jesus saw Nathaniel coming. Here is the man who tells the truth, said Jesus. There are no lies in him.

How could you know me? asked Nathaniel. I saw you before, said Jesus. You were under the fig tree and it was before Philip came and got you. Teacher, said Nathaniel, you are God's son.

You are the king of God's people. Do you believe this because I saw you under the tree? asked Jesus. You will see greater things than that.

You will see heaven open up. You will see God's angels going up and down with me.

And that is the end of our reading today.

Wasn't that awesome? So exciting. We saw so many things. It was so hard to focus on just our daily application for today in what ah we are seeing in today's reading.

We could talk about
Pointing to Jesus

all kinds of things. We could talk about the temptations that Jesus was given by Satan. But we're going to talk about how everybody pointed to Jesus.

Nobody put the... glory on themselves. And as soon as somebody knew about Jesus, they went and told somebody. And it started with John.

You know, I've always thought it was interesting that John said that, now mind you, John was his cousin. And remember his, his mother was um

Elizabeth. And she was the cousin to Mary, Jesus's mom. And although Mary had been with Elizabeth before Jesus was born and before John was born, it doesn't say that they spent a lot of time together growing up or that they knew that that ah even if they did, John still didn't know that Jesus was to be the Messiah, which means anointed one.

So I thought that was very interesting. And again, that's not part of our daily application, but man, there are so many things to talk about. God can hide our eyes and reveal things when he wants them to be revealed.

So that's just a little side note there, just a little bonus bit there. At the right time, God opened John's eyes by showing him. the one who would be the Messiah was the one that the spirit came down and rested upon. And that's exactly what happened when Jesus was baptized.

So we see that when Jesus returned,

And John was being questioned by the Jewish leaders. They asked him who he was. They asked him if he was one of three people. The first one they asked him was, was he the promised one, which means Messiah, the anointed one?

And he said, no. And he also said that the one that was coming would be greater than him. yeah They said, well, then are you Elijah? Elijah? No, he is not Elijah.

Now, Jesus did confirm that he was the one who did come in the spirit of Elijah. And we know from the prophecy from the angel that John would have the spirit of Elijah.

But John was not Elijah himself. So John was telling the truth. He was not Elijah, but surely his parents would have told him growing up that he was given the spirit of Elijah.

He would have a spirit like Elijah. So he is not reincarnated. I want to be sure that I make that clear in case anybody out there wants to say, well, he was just reincarnated. No, Elijah was taken up in a chariot to heaven.

And so he did not go through the physical transformation of death. Now, who is the prophet? Then they asked him, are you the prophet?

This is the prophet that Moses spoke about. Our very first prophecy about God going to send somebody to the people was way back with Moses.

And Moses said that God would send a prophet. He would raise up one from among the people. And that is who Jesus is. It's simply another name. He's not a third different person. it is just, that's how they interpreted it, and was that he would be the prophet.

So they were looking for one of three people and he was none of those. But what did he do? He never claimed to be who he wasn't. And he always pointed people to Jesus.

And as soon as John saw Jesus, he declared, look, there is the Lamb of God. And he also gave testimony about the things that he saw as ah as a witness.

So he was witnessing. And if you've been around for this event, you may remember that we've talked about a couple of different times the importance of being God's witnesses. We are meant to share what God does that we see.

If we've been given the privilege to see or experience something, we are meant to share
Sharing Personal Testimonies

that. We are to be witnesses about that and tell people. And that is our testimony.

So when people ask, what is your testimony? There are a lot of things that we can give as a testimony. In fact, I'm going to reach over and grab my box here.

See, this is my hallelujah house. And in it are my testimony, my witnessing of the things that God has has done in my own personal life that I can share with other people if I forget.

So I have a record of the many things that God is doing in my own life because you can't remember everything. So it's good to write them down. And that Hallelujah House, which you can find on my site, that is made by Julie, it's a project that God gave to her so that we can share our testimony and record our witnessing to God's wonderful events.

Because who knows when those witnessing accounts will come into play in the future and be beneficial for people.

After John points the disciples who are with him to Jesus, they went and followed Jesus. And what did they do?

They immediately went and spread the word. They spread the word about Jesus with their own witnessing. So we have first it was Andrew and he went and told his brother Simon, whom Jesus immediately renamed the rock, Peter.

And then we have, ah let's see, there was, then Jesus went to Galilee and he saw Philip and he called Philip and ah Philip went to go find Nathaniel.

And immediately he gave his witnessing account and he said, we found the man Moses wrote about. He is the one the prophets wrote about too. His name is Jesus.

And so then Nathaniel came.

So what are we meant to do? We are not to take glory for ourselves. John gave us a great example of that. We are instead to point people to Jesus.

And each one will tell other people. And that is how we spread the word about our heavenly father. Now we will see that Jesus then points the way to God.

Ultimately that road leads to God. And that is the goal.

Simple today. We see from the very beginning that the cause and effect that telling people has about Jesus, they were so excited. They couldn't help but spread the word.

And I feel like that too. As I say, if God didn't want anybody to know about something, he surely wouldn't tell me. I love to tell people about the things that God is doing and what he shows me.

love that. And it brings such joy. you always You see me laughing about it. It's just, it's so exciting. It's just, it's so wonderful how God is so... Continuous. He's so um steady.

Everything, if nothing has changed in that respect. He's doing the same things, but he's doing it over and over with all of the new people. There's always new people. There are always new people.

It just never ends. So who is God putting in your path today for you to witness about Jesus?

Who is it? Is it them? Is it them? It could be them.

i I yesterday or two days ago, it was rather I was at work and God tickled my mind. And he said, remember, I put you exactly where you are because you're, you're meant to talk to people so that you will have some kind of an encounter.

And so I started, I'm always looking then and I'm going, is it the person next to me? Is it my packer? Is it, is it somebody around who, who is it? And I'm looking.

It's really cool. And then i was like, oh, I guess, you know, there's there's nobody happening yet right now. And then, don't know, my next door neighbor, my worker next to me, my coworker, he asked me what I did outside of here at work, because we often hold more than one job where I work.

And so I told him I have a podcast. And he said, oh, well, what is it? And I said, well, it's a Bible reading podcast. And he said, okay, where is it on? And I was just like, wow.

and and And so we talked about it for a moment. and And he said, is it on YouTube? And I said, yes, it's anywhere. You can find it anywhere. And ah so he said, okay, what is it on YouTube?

And I was just like, wow, Lord, the harvest, and the fields are ripe with harvest. I was just shocked. He told me be on the lookout. And I was just like, where, who is it? Is it you? And because I hadn't broached the subject myself, God opened his mouth.

And I was just like, whoa, that is so cool. So who is it for you? He ended up taking down, he asked if he could take a picture of my channel page. So, and and he said that he has Christian friends and he wanted to share it with them.

And I was like, wow. So here I feel like, like ah you know, like the disciples here, as it as the way as they learn, they go and they tell other people and they're like, wow, go get this person. Wow, go get this person. Wow, go get this person.

And it's just it's just amazing, the Spirit of God just working and spreading. And I love to see that.

So who is it that God is putting in your path today? Ask God. Ask God to show you. guarantee you he will. He will bring somebody for you to witness to and to share with.

And it doesn't have to be a big long thing of, do you know where you're going to go when you die? You know, type of a question. It's just, let me tell you what God has been doing in my life. God did the most amazing things recently.

And I just, I'm so excited to share them with you. And I find that that has a great big impact on people is when you are sharing amazing things that God has done in your own life. It seems to have a far greater impact than the question of, do you want to go to hell?

ah is is that That can be rather off-putting as an opening statement. So I just want to encourage you to share the good things. It's called the good news. and share the good things that God is doing in your own life.

And people will be very interested. People love to hear about that. Even when they're not believers, they seem to really be receptive to hearing about that.

But John tells us in chapter 9, the true light coming into the world gives light to every man. So we are the light of the world.

He has given light to all of us. And we need to use that light to point the way like a beacon to our Savior, our Messiah, our Anointed One, our Son of God, who has baptized us in the Holy Spirit.

and as has allowed us to become one with our heavenly father. So let's point that way to God so that other people can join us in our family of believers.
