Today's reading will cover Jeremiah Chapter 37 and Ezekiel Chapter 28:1-2, 6-19. Today we will read about dual prophecy dealing with both Tyre and Satan. In our discussion for daily application we will look more deeply at Ezekiel chapter 28 and see that God had purpose for both Satan and Tyre before they were created. In the same way, God has purpose for YOU and me! We will look at WHY God was bringing judgment on Tyre and Satan and hear God tell us He alone is God and will make things happen. Everything is in God's control. We will look at God's words to Judah- no matter what they did the Babylonians WOULD burn down the city, even if there were only a few wounded men left and everyone else had been killed in the advancing troop, the city would STILL burn. Everything God says will happen, will happen! We cannot change God's plans. We can, however, work WITH God's plans! God has plans for you and me. God had plans for the Judeans. If they had chosen to surrender to the Babylonians and work WITH God, they would have lived. But they chose to work AGAINST God and go their own way. Going their own way would not change God's plans. Going OUR own way does not change God's plans. But if we, like the Judeans, want to be as happy as possible then we should embrace the good works that God has prepared for us ahead of time to do. God knows the plans He has made for us: plans for hope and to prosper us. I don't know about YOU, but I want to be as joyful and hopeful and prosperous as I can be. That can be attained by seeking God and His plans for us and doing the good work that He has prepared for us to do. I offer to you my witness as testimony to being joyful as a result of actively pursuing God's good works and purpose for me every day.

Introduction and Significance of Independence Day

00:00:03
Speaker
Good morning, everybody. Today is the 4th of July. Happy 4th of July, everybody. Yay! Today is the Independence Day for the United States, in case you are watching from another country and you didn't know that today is our celebration of Independence Day.

Introduction to Daily Reading and Coaching Channel

00:00:20
Speaker
Thank you so much for joining me for today's reading, whether you are following along on that podcast or whether you're watching the video somewhere. We are going through the Day by Day Kids Bible, written by Karen Henley.
00:00:32
Speaker
And almost forgot to tell you, you are with Robin at In the Family Way Coaching.

Personal Reflections and Divine Connections

00:00:39
Speaker
I want to give a shout out to Lex. Nice to see you, Lex. It was so wonderful for God to put us together yesterday. and thank you so much for joining me for this event. I am glad that you are here and that God has led you here.
00:00:53
Speaker
I love our divine appointment we had yesterday. It was amazing. I'm so glad. that Those things like that just really brighten up my whole day. I never would have thought that that being at Amazon was where I was supposed to be.
00:01:07
Speaker
And ah in the same way that he sends people to other countries or to other places, i I just, I really feel like God has put me where I am And it's just such a nice feeling to know that he has placed me there and that there are people there, ah your people, my my brothers and sisters who

Unity and Faith at Work

00:01:29
Speaker
are there.
00:01:29
Speaker
And I'm just so excited about that. when I've had a discussion with another young woman yesterday who is a fellow sister, and we were talking about the fact that there are so many of us in the body ah that we work with.
00:01:44
Speaker
And it's just, it really makes me feel unified at work. So I just wanted to encourage you that wherever it is that you work to ask God to show you who your brothers and sisters are.
00:01:56
Speaker
And I've mentioned before that sometimes it can be that person that annoys you. or irritates you. And I truly believe that that's simply our enemy who is trying to cause division in the body.
00:02:09
Speaker
And so I take special note of that, that now that I'm aware of that, I make special note that if somebody is irritating me, I try and strike up a conversation where I insert the question, do you have any background in faith?
00:02:22
Speaker
and any faith background or anything, something like that. and And they may say, yes, I'm a believer or something to that effect. And then you can say, ah, I get it now.

Building Unity Through Conversations

00:02:34
Speaker
And you just have to work at it to make sure that that person just, it's like that just banishes actually. For for me anyway, I find that that just almost, almost, completely will banish anything that just annoys me about that person.
00:02:51
Speaker
Suddenly I have more grace toward my brother or my sister who was constantly annoying me. ha ha. Because i i just truly view that as a way that Satan already knew that.
00:03:03
Speaker
And he knew it before I did. And that he's trying to cause division in the body. And we are called to be ministers of reconciliation. And our God, as we are seeing over and over again, desires to draw us to him.
00:03:17
Speaker
And that we are meant to work together, shoulder to shoulder, as we read.

Commitment to Bible Reading

00:03:22
Speaker
And I just, I love that because that implies... very closeness. And in today's society, we have a tendency, ah even now a lot of people I've noticed, not everybody, but, and it's definitely less than before, but um more people are wanting to keep their distance from other people.
00:03:39
Speaker
And we are called to work shoulder to shoulder. I understand that it's a metaphor for we're just working closely together, but there is something to be said for reaching out and and having someone's hand and And knowing either with a hug or something that just really unifies and just really um lights the light inside.
00:04:03
Speaker
I know it does for me. So I know we have a lot of hugs among my brothers and sisters at work. It's just really wonderful, actually. um and And so I wanted to share that with you to encourage you in your workplace ah to do the to have the same type of openness and unification and reconciliation potentially.
00:04:25
Speaker
So with that said, it is time to get out our calendar. If you are following along on your commitment calendar, go ahead and get that out and your sticker or however you're marking it off because you are about to hear the Bible today.
00:04:40
Speaker
If you are new, like Lex, you may not know that if you head over to my site at
00:04:52
Speaker
and I have that link down below in the description, if you are interested in downloading Your own copy of the free calendar, I have that available on the tab marked, Read the Bible in One Year.
00:05:05
Speaker
Below that tab, you will see options for listening or watching via video or audio for all the months that we have had this so far this year. So we're in July, so I have all the way January through January.
00:05:17
Speaker
July as a drop down below that. But before that,

Transition to Bible Reading: Ezekiel and Jeremiah

00:05:22
Speaker
just under the tab of read the Bible in one year, I have a calendar that you can download. Even if you just need one for the refrigerator, it's there.
00:05:30
Speaker
There is no clickbait. You don't have to subscribe to anything. You don't have to put your email address in. You don't have to let me know you were here. Nothing, it's just there for you to download. So I just want to encourage you that that's just a little motivational tool that you can use because when you see your progress and you see how many days you have been faithful to hear the Bible this year or this month, this week, it will encourage you to keep going.
00:05:57
Speaker
And that's what I would like to do is I want to encourage you as your sister to keep going. We are meant to strengthen one another and to encourage one another and build one another up. And so I take that responsibility very seriously here.
00:06:10
Speaker
And I am always looking to do that. Not because I have to, but because that is something that God has really built into my character of who I am. So we are going to be picking up in both the chap but the books of Ezekiel and Jeremiah today.
00:06:28
Speaker
And I want to tell you, the you already made me know, but not everybody, that I often or usually will read in the Big Bible the areas that we are covering in our version of the Bible, our day-by-day kids Bible.

Prophecies and Their Implications

00:06:44
Speaker
because we know that our version is a consolidated big picture version, but for purposes of understanding and making sure that I know what's going on, I always try to read the the big version.
00:06:57
Speaker
And I didn't do that in the beginning and I still found daily application. So it's not necessary ah hundred percent, but I do tend to have a strong hunger, an insatiable hunger for God's word and learning more and more. And I've i've always been like that.
00:07:12
Speaker
And i um, Sorry, I'm gonna lean down here if you're watching the video.
00:07:20
Speaker
i I always read the big version and sometimes there's a a little bit more detail involved. So that's why I always give the area, ah the the verses and chapters of what we are reading in the description.
00:07:34
Speaker
And I wanna encourage you that if you too are hungry for more of God's word, to head up your big Bible and read that. And in today's version, ah today's reading, I mean,
00:07:45
Speaker
in the big Bible, when God is talking to Ezekiel about the city of Tyre, which we spoke about yesterday, he he even says that he was wiser than Daniel.
00:08:00
Speaker
and So we mentioned yesterday that God is working a lot at this point in history. He has Jeremiah, he has Ezekiel, he has Daniel. And so we are reading all of these things that are going on you know very close to one another in timeline.
00:08:17
Speaker
And even Daniel was mentioned, and I didn't know this. I just thought this was so cool. This just really tells you that we are right there in the thick of it. That ah with with all of this going on at the same time, that they were aware of one another because ah they God was working together with them. They were one in the body.
00:08:36
Speaker
They may not have been close to one another all the time, such as Daniel was in Babylon. Ezekiel was in Babylon. Jeremiah was in Judah. But they were aware of one another and God was telling them.
00:08:51
Speaker
So I just really thought that that was fascinating, first of all, that we have cross-reference to show that they were talking about one another. So I just, I love to share my excitement with you because I have such joy and excitement when I read the word.
00:09:06
Speaker
And that's one of the... motivations that I have for wanting us to spread the word about reading God's word and why I love this version of the Bible because it really helps us to understand everything that's going on in timeline. And I just, I really feel like I am getting such a beautiful picture of the whole big picture.
00:09:27
Speaker
and And I hope that you are too. This event is very exciting to me every day. And i I hope that you share that excitement and joy with me. So without any more ado, we are going to head into our reading for the day, which is going to consist of Ezekiel chapter 28 and Jeremiah chapter 37.
00:09:56
Speaker
Our first section is entitled, Not a God. And this is out of Ezekiel chapter 28. And i want to give us a little bit of perspective as we go into this reading that I was suspicious and ah did some research and was able to confirm that The prophecy that God is giving Ezekiel about the city of Tyre is a dual prophecy.
00:10:23
Speaker
We've mentioned in the beginning or and in a couple of times that Ezekiel's book is full of prophecy that God is giving him both of the future ah Well, that's what prophecy is. It's things that are going to happen in the future, but also things ah that happen further out, such as ah the coming of Jesus and not just ah judgments that are coming to Judah.
00:10:48
Speaker
But this particular one is also a dual prophecy about Satan. And it's very ah important, I wanted to notate that in case you're unaware, most of our depictions, most of our drawings and our ah pictures of what we think Satan looks like is like a red, ugly devil with horns and he's sneering and he just, he looks ugly.
00:11:14
Speaker
But the fact of the matter is, is that our God created him and he was created and is was made beautiful. He is a beautiful being and he became arrogant in his beauty.
00:11:31
Speaker
So we're going to be seeing God talk about that. Just like when we have conversations and we and we're talking to someone and we tell them, oh, it was just like such and such. And then we're describing to them something that they are like. That is a simile. A simile is a comparison between two things using the words like or as.
00:11:53
Speaker
But God does the same thing. And it's just, it's so beautiful to see that when he sees Tyre, it reminds him of his beautiful angel, Satan.
00:12:07
Speaker
And he's comparing and he says in the same way, It will happen to you because of the same exact sins. So what we want to do is see connection.
00:12:20
Speaker
We're always looking to draw connection, to see ourselves in the people that we are reading about, in the situations that we are reading about, because these situations are not what I'm going to call stagnant.
00:12:32
Speaker
They do not exist in a vacuum. They are not unique. We experience very similar situations throughout the ages. And that's why with the Bible is still just as relevant and useful today as it was when it was written thousands of years ago.

Continued Readings and Reflections

00:12:52
Speaker
So here we go. We're going to be reading about the city of Tyre in this first chapter.
00:12:59
Speaker
God told Ezekiel what to say to Tyre's king. Yesterday, God was speaking to the city itself. Now we have a prophecy directly to the king of Tyre.
00:13:11
Speaker
Your heart is proud. You say you are a god. You may think you are as wise as a god. But you are a man. You are not a god.
00:13:24
Speaker
You think your wise thinking made you rich. So your heart is proud. I am God. I am going to bring other lands against you.
00:13:37
Speaker
And it's all because you think you are so wise. I will bring mean nations. They will fight you and they will win.
00:13:49
Speaker
Then will you say that you are a God? You will see that you are only a man. You are not a God. I am God.
00:14:01
Speaker
I say this will happen.
00:14:05
Speaker
God spoke to Ezekiel again, and God said to sing a sad song about Tyre's king. This was God's sad song. There was nothing wrong with you.
00:14:18
Speaker
You were wise and beautiful. You were in Eden, God's garden. You wore beautiful, shiny stones. You wore red, yellow, green, white, blue, and pink stones.
00:14:36
Speaker
You had gold. It was ready for you when you were made. I chose you to be an angel guard. You lived on God's special holy mountain.
00:14:51
Speaker
You walked around the stones of fire. You had not done anything wrong.
00:15:03
Speaker
Sorry, I lost my place there.
00:15:09
Speaker
Then one day something bad happened. You traded with people here and there. You became hurtful. You sinned. So I made you leave my mountain.
00:15:21
Speaker
I threw you out. You, angel who guards. Your heart grew proud because you were so beautiful. So I threw you down to the earth.
00:15:34
Speaker
You were a terrible sight to the kings. You lied when you bought and sold. You had so many sins. So I made fire come from you.
00:15:46
Speaker
It burned you up. The nations who knew you are shocked. Your end is terrible.
00:15:55
Speaker
That's a very emotional reading, I thought.
00:16:00
Speaker
Now we're going to go ahead into Jeremiah 37, and it's entitled A Room Under the Ground. Back in Judah, King Zedekiah sent a message to Jeremiah.
00:16:12
Speaker
It said, Please pray to God for us. Babylon's army was fighting Jerusalem, and then Egypt's army marched out to help Jerusalem. The army of Babylon heard that Egypt's army was coming, so the ones who were fighting moved away from Jerusalem.
00:16:29
Speaker
Then God gave Jeremiah this message for King Zedekiah. The army of Egypt came to help you, but it will go back to Egypt. Then Babylon will come again to fight Jerusalem.
00:16:43
Speaker
The people will take over the city. They will burn it down. Don't lie to yourselves, says God. Don't think that Babylon will leave you alone.
00:16:56
Speaker
They won't. Let's say you won over the whole army of Babylon. Let's say that only hurt men were in Babylon's tents.
00:17:08
Speaker
They would still come and burn down this city, says God. Now Jeremiah started to leave Jerusalem. He was going to go to the land that he owned, and he was going out through a city gate.
00:17:22
Speaker
But the captain of the guard stopped Jeremiah. You're leaving us and going to help Babylon, he said. No, I'm not, said Jeremiah. But the captain wouldn't listen and he took Jeremiah to the city leaders.
00:17:37
Speaker
The city leaders were angry at Jeremiah. They had him beaten.
00:17:44
Speaker
They put him in a jail in a room under the ground. Jeremiah had to stay there a long time. Then King Zedekiah asked guards to bring Jeremiah to see him.
00:17:58
Speaker
So Jeremiah was taken to the king's palace. And King Zedekiah asked him, Did God tell you anything? Yes, said Jeremiah.
00:18:09
Speaker
You will be given to the king of Babylon. Then Jeremiah said, Where are your own fake prophets? They told you Babylon would not fight Jerusalem.
00:18:21
Speaker
What did I do wrong? Why am I in jail? Don't send me back to the jail under the ground. will die there. So King Zedekiah said to Jeremiah that he could stay in the guard's yard.
00:18:37
Speaker
And he told the guards to give Jeremiah bread every day. He could have bread until the city ran out of bread.
00:18:47
Speaker
And that's the end of our reading today.
00:18:55
Speaker
God's word is so rich today, don't you think? There is so much going on. I'm going to give you a little bit more perspective on... ah his prophecy and God's prophecy to Tyre.
00:19:09
Speaker
In the chapter 28, since our version is only covering the big story and and not going into every detail, I wanted to point out, this is where God is saying, ah first of all, in verse three, that's where he mentions Daniel.
00:19:28
Speaker
He says, see, you are wiser than Daniel. No secret is hidden from you. By your wisdom and your understanding, you have made wealth for yourself and have gathered gold and silver into your treasuries.
00:19:44
Speaker
We don't need to read all of that there, but I just wanted to point out that it is in verse three of chapter 28 where God mentions Daniel to Ezekiel to give the prophecy.

Historical Fulfillment of Prophecies

00:19:56
Speaker
So they would have known who he was because remember, Daniel was lifted to be ah King Nebuchadnezzar's highest advisor.
00:20:04
Speaker
that he was apparently well known.
00:20:09
Speaker
Now I wanted to point out too that our version in our story, we are only looking up to verses 19 in chapter 28. And there are a total of 26 verses in ah chapter 28. So I'm going to skip down to a section where it's not covered, but it explains why, what is going on here for Tyre.
00:20:34
Speaker
God is ah also giving a prophecy for Sidon. And these two cities, both Sidon and Tyre, are mentioned multiple times in the Bible.
00:20:46
Speaker
And I do also want to point out that God's prophecy against Tyre was fulfilled partially with Nebuchadnezzar. taking over and destroying tire in that happens actually in chapter 29 which as far as I can tell our big story does not cover so I do want to point out we spoke yesterday about God's faithfulness and how God's prophecies are coming closer and closer to the time that they're actually going to be happening and so this happens in our chapter 29 of Jeremiah so it's actually recorded in a very short period of time that it would have been happening
00:21:25
Speaker
And ah Jesus also mentions both Tyre and Sidon telling the people that if who were not receiving his message of salvation, that if he had taken the message to Sidon and Tyre, surely they would have listened and repented, but they were stubborn and his the chosen people were not listening.

God's Control and Comfort in Chaos

00:21:49
Speaker
So these nations were still well known and still existed, but they were brought down and God had caused these things to happen. So the second fulfillment of the prophecy for Tyre occurred with Alexander the Great.
00:22:06
Speaker
So as God prophesies against Sidon, and that starts in chat and chapter 28 still of verse 20, it says, set your face towards Sidon and prophecy against her.
00:22:22
Speaker
And then and we're going to drop down to verse 24 because this is why. and So he is ah giving judgment. We already know it's it's about the pride. And we see that the king of Tyre it considers himself a god. He's so arrogant with himself and so proud that he considers himself a god. So God is knocking him down. And he said multiple times today in our reading, you are not God.
00:22:45
Speaker
i am god And he says in verse 24, never again will there be a briar pricking at the house of Israel or a piercing thorn from any around them who scorned them.
00:22:59
Speaker
They will know that I am the Lord God.
00:23:04
Speaker
And then dropping down to verse 26, they, meaning the Israelites, will live safely there and they will build houses and plant vineyards. They will live securely when I have executed judgments on all those around them that treated them with contempt.
00:23:22
Speaker
So they will know that i am the Lord, their God. So we see that God often tells us why he is doing things. I love that. I've said that before here during our readings, but I really love the fact that God is explaining why he is doing it. And he's he's showing us by telling us that he cares about the people.
00:23:44
Speaker
he is He is so faithful and so loving as we looked again at yesterday. And so our daily application today is that we cannot interfere with God's plans.
00:24:00
Speaker
When he tells us he will do something, he will do it. Just like he told Judah, he says, don't lie to yourselves. you think that Babylon is not going to come in and burn everything down.
00:24:15
Speaker
He says, but even if you hurt, it even if you beat off the army, even then, and there was nothing but just wounded men sitting in their tents, they would still come and burn the city down.
00:24:29
Speaker
So what God has set forth, it will occur. Just like Satan cannot stop God's plans from coming. We are on the winning side.
00:24:40
Speaker
God is on the winning side. He is the winning side. So we need to remember that as we are going through, we can't take charge of situations and try to outdo God and do things our way.
00:24:57
Speaker
The king of Judah was trying really hard to to do things his way. We saw that he wanted God to just deliver them with miracles while they did nothing to change their behavior. He still wanted to keep going in his sinful ways.
00:25:12
Speaker
We see here that he is trying with Egypt again. He's grasping at straws. And God says, it doesn't matter. You can't do anything that is going to stop what I say is going to happen.
00:25:26
Speaker
I am the Lord your God, and I will do it. So that can be very comforting too, to know as we are facing in today's society, we have wars going on. We have people who are very violent.
00:25:41
Speaker
and in And I mean that even in terms of of rulers of countries, we have threats of war and and wars that are that are beginning. We don't need to be worried about these things as Jesus told us and as we looked at, because God is the one who is in charge.
00:25:59
Speaker
He's always been in charge. He is still in charge. We don't need to be a yeah afraid or scared. We just need to be faithful to God and know that he treats are his people differently, as we've seen many, many times.
00:26:14
Speaker
He protects those whom he wants to protect. Even with Jeremiah, yeah Jeremiah, has it seems just he's treated so terribly. Today we saw him beaten. But he asked the guard or the king rather, if he could not be returned to that, uh, hole in the ground.
00:26:34
Speaker
And instead he was allowed to be in the, in the palace garden, ah prison and he was given bread every day. so it's a tough job being in ministry sometimes for God.
00:26:48
Speaker
He's we're expected to, and to do what we are told to do. And Jeremiah said in the beginning, he said, he said i I only have bad things to say and I'm tired of saying it, but I have to do it because my heart burns with your words, God. I have to do it.
00:27:08
Speaker
And in the same way, when God calls us to do things, he strengthens us. He enables us to do it. He is there with us and we have to leave room for God's vengeance.
00:27:20
Speaker
But there is nothing, no matter what happens, no matter putting him into jail, it doesn't stop God's plans from coming. So it doesn't matter what. So we need to try to work with God rather than against him.
00:27:36
Speaker
That's a great big lesson that works to our advantage, don't you think? God has given the people multiple opportunities. He's repetitively said, If you want to live, surrender to the Babylonians.
00:27:50
Speaker
Even for the surrounding nations, when he said to the north, he said, I will let you stay in your land. And they weren't even followers of him. He still cares about everybody.

Sovereignty and Futility of Opposing God's Plans

00:27:59
Speaker
Just like he told Jonah when Jonah was upset that he had to go deliver the message of repentance.
00:28:06
Speaker
And God said to him, there are many people and animals. And they are his people. God told us the other day in our reading, he says he is God of all people.
00:28:18
Speaker
Whether they acknowledge him as their Lord and Savior or not, God is still the God of every person on the planet. it doesn't matter if they're Muslim, it doesn't matter if they're Jehovah's Witness, it doesn't matter if they're Southern Baptist or ah non-denominational Christian or Israelite, Jewish, Messianic Jewish, atheist supposedly.
00:28:44
Speaker
it doesn't matter. People who claim that there is no God, agnostics, God is the God of all people. And so he is in charge and there is nothing that anybody can do to change the plans that he has set forth and that he says he will do.
00:29:03
Speaker
I find that very comforting. We can't mess it up. We do have jobs to do that God has prepared good works in advance for us to do And I believe that we, if we want to be happy, the happiest we can be is to find out what work God has for us each day and do it because God knows the plans he has for us, plans that are good to give us hope and a future.
00:29:31
Speaker
And even if it's just to be where he has planted you, to meet the people that he puts into your path, these are good works that he has put aside for you, that he has set up for you in advance.
00:29:45
