Introduction and Quarantine Activities

00:00:00
Speaker
Hey everybody, you're listening to the all new anti-fanboy podcast, episode 345. It is the week of March 29th, 2020. And yes, once again, we are still remote podcasting with each other. I'm Steve O'Teary. This is Chris Gulati. I am the Tiger King of podcasters, Devin Kopeck. And I am a big cat rescuer.
00:00:25
Speaker
Jonathan Suarez, you know, I don't like that John Suarez. I just don't Know it's just not right
00:00:42
Speaker
What's up, guys? How's your how's your quarantine week two? Oh, boy. We've been doing some quarantine streams with Jackbox. Yeah. So I need to I need to catch up with you on that because I said I was going to join. But then during dinner, I started Tiger King and I could not. Oh, that's why I didn't come back. And I just came into the room called Big P.P. and Little P.P.
00:01:10
Speaker
And they just kept talking about penises and they were drawing penises onto penises. We don't know. Yeah. No, we seriously didn't know who they were. I mean, he was going out to everybody on Twitch. So was it somebody on discord? Oh yeah. It could have been some trolls. Yeah. And then, and then, you know, that was a, that was commitment to a bet, man. It really was. You can't really hate, you can't really hate on something like that, to be honest.
00:01:36
Speaker
Yeah. And then we had, um, Oh God, what a, well, and then one of the friends of the podcast, Paul joined as John and we thought it was you son of a bitch. I'd say for basically half that round, we're like, Hey, John.
00:01:51
Speaker
Yeah, so his name was just John Log in you just make up a name So he was getting us back for that one time when he popped in the call of duty
00:02:08
Speaker
No, you cannot. You can't.

Gaming Experiences and Anticipations

00:02:13
Speaker
Oh, man. We played. Well, I guess Devin will get into his his shenanigans later, but I play a lot of Animal Crossing today, at least with Steve. Yeah, I play him. We I'd have to say this is the first game in the three years that the switch has come out, but I've actually used the voice chat on the app. It wasn't that bad. It was done. It was. I used the the Nintendo app.
00:02:37
Speaker
Yeah, that must have been weird. Yeah, good thing you don't have to pay for it, son. I know. I don't like that. I don't like it, but I love it. No, you love it. I can't wait to restrict your access.
00:02:56
Speaker
You can only play breath of fire too. That's it. That's the only game that you're allowed to play. That's all I need. One of the maximums for the voice chat rooms, like how many people could you have on at once?
00:03:08
Speaker
I don't know. We had four. We had four today. Yeah, we had four. I was yesterday when I did it. There was like six people in it. Well, OK. It might go up to eight just because that's how many people can be online on Animal Crossing. So Steve, we'll have to make him. Steve made Tim sit in a dog bed and we clapped that. I saw that photo. We just clapped. We just clapped for like 10 minutes. The weird times a flat circle.
00:03:45
Speaker
Here's a quick question See you guys Did the Borderlands DLC ever come out? Yeah announced it right. I think multiple DLC has come out for that. I
00:03:59
Speaker
And I have no idea. I have not checked. I played a game once in the time between now and when we were like beat it. Yeah. OK. Yeah. I mean, Chris and I, I think you and I, we both bought the super. So we both have access to all that DLC, I think.
00:04:17
Speaker
Now I feel like a goddamn fool. Well, I got the I got in there promoting Borderlands 3 second campaign add on available now guns, love and tentacles. Here I'll read the I'll read the little the little spice. Borderlands 3's second paid campaign add on is live attend a legendary engagement party on the all new planet of the world where a gigantar gargantuan
00:04:46
Speaker
Monster wise, frozen above a village full of deranged occultists. What we're seeing is the word gargantuan. We all want to say gigantar. Gigantar. I think that is the instinct. Oh, obviously. So essentially tentacles. There's a there's a wedding of hammer lock.
00:05:08
Speaker
Watch out, kid. So it sounds like there's two pieces of DLC we have access to.
00:05:17
Speaker
Yeah. You know, I may as well. I am. What am I going to play that when I got Resident Evil 3? I got to finish Doom still. I got I got I got Dark Souls 3. I got I got I got Final Fantasy 7 coming up my my pooch. You get in there, Chris? What? Final Fantasy 7?
00:05:41
Speaker
I don't know. I don't know. I was trying to think of a game that the four of us could play this week sometime. Oh, I guess we could play Resident Evil 3, right? Oh yeah. The resistance mode. That's not gonna be a bucket of bolts. What about that Predator game? When's that coming out?
00:06:06
Speaker
I think that came out or at least no, I don't think it is out actually April 24th. I saw people were streaming it. Okay. I'd love to play to catch a predator game, but I don't know how that would be multiplayer. Uh, Chris Hanson, Chris Hanson.
00:06:21
Speaker
Uh, that's the one VR, that's the one VR Chris Hanson. Just once you get into his cone of vision, you have to take a seat. One hundred predators are dropped onto an Island and Chris Hanson's running around and he gets all 100. You brought over wine coolers and condoms. What were you thinking?
00:06:40
Speaker
I just thought I could talk to her about how to be, how to, how to, where's the door out? You're completely naked. What were you thinking? I want to watch Tiger King.

Free Games and Platform Frustrations

00:06:54
Speaker
Chris, I don't know if you play it, but the Uncharted 4 is going to be free. Oh, shit. It's going to be free on Xbox. Oh, really? For PS Plus? Yes. Okay. I have that, I think.
00:07:06
Speaker
You do. You should. Yeah, you should. I just re-upped on that shit. Oh, nice. You better get your money's worth. And dirt 2.0. DERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
00:07:26
Speaker
He said that was a good idea. It's dirt 2.0. It's better than dirt. It's the second iteration of dirt. It's wetter. I don't understand. So real quick, am I the only one that's beaten Doom?
00:07:45
Speaker
Um, so I. OK, so I I've I've I beat the what's her name maker. No idea. OK, OK. So I feel like I'm at the fucking tail end of this game. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I'm like, you got one thing left, Steve. This game is. Wait, he's beaten me before it is. Steve has Steve has an excuse because he's playing two different games right now.
00:08:12
Speaker
Chris, what have you been doing on the side that's not, that's preventing you from beating the game? To be perfectly honest, I've been pacing myself because I don't have much to do and I want to, I don't want to like beat it in a day or two.
00:08:29
Speaker
Yeah, but but yo like I tweeted earlier today that like I'm just kind of getting tired to be honest like it's actually like starting to I mean, I guess when Resident Evil 3 comes out like I'll have to do that's the thing that's the But it's like just turning up my PlayStation on it's like what do I want to do do I want to
00:08:51
Speaker
Fucking waste time again playing Street Fighter 2 again. Just getting destroyed by reusing Ken's Or do I want to go on destiny where there's really nothing else for me to do in that game? Because like I already dumped 5,000
00:09:08
Speaker
We can play that yeah Okay, fuck it, right? Why not? I've got a couple dudes that might they might they might be interested in playing with us too Maybe we can get rain in Yeah, a little Street Fighter part. Do you have that for PlayStation? No, I don't One point but I guess not
00:09:29
Speaker
Maybe very cheap because it's it was, you know, I think it's only like 20 bucks at this point because like it's Street Fighter four on the PS4. Right. It's I know the 30th anniversary is only like 20 bucks. But there's only like three games that are worth it on there.
00:10:01
Speaker
Out of the ones that I already don't consider good, I would say As Above, So Below is pretty good.

Horror Movies and Game Critiques

00:10:09
Speaker
Yeah, that one's not... I really didn't like the ending of that though. As Above, So Below. That's the one where it's like they're in the caverns under Paris. Listen, I like the tighter the film, the better when it comes to film footage.
00:10:15
Speaker
I went through a run where I just watched every film footage horror movie I could find.
00:10:23
Speaker
I feel like that's a really tight fucking movie. What made you choose this particular niche genre? Well, because I never watched the Chernobyl Diaries and I just watched it. And that movie is masquerading as a found footage film. That's the one with Dexter's sister, right? Yes. And it infuriated the fuck out of me.
00:10:48
Speaker
Quarantine, I thought I thought that one was called corn. I don't know any diaries Yeah, the trouble. I read basically a shot like a found footage movie, but it's not
00:10:59
Speaker
It's not, there's no one actually, no character holding the camera. Is that an actress? Has she been in the most movies that lie to you? Because she was also in exorcism of Emily Rose. Oh man, this is going to be like a bad-ass exorcist movie. That is a fucking court drama. That is a goddamn court drama. A silly, silly film that is.
00:11:22
Speaker
Hold to you instead of showing you yeah, so real quick. I just looked up to ultra Street Fighter 4 on ps4. It's $25 I did drop I cancelled all my Amazon games that I had pre-ordered because you were on the bottom digitally so Yeah, that makes sense. Yeah, so I got a Yeah, I'm looking at the house being Resident Evil. There's a couple there's some sales I think
00:11:52
Speaker
It's 30th anniversary. Oh yeah, it's 50% off right now. 20 bucks for the March mail. But you just told me about this Pornhub premium for free deal, so. Yeah, ho. Oh, dude, I was $5.
00:12:08
Speaker
Let's go. Oh, well, we'll raise. So so back to do real quick. Yeah. If we peel ourselves away from the porn. So really, for us.
00:12:23
Speaker
you're kind of pacing yourself. I started pacing myself and basically I think I beat it in like four really good sits. I hit the point where essentially I stopped right before like I got to the point where the game was like, hey,
00:12:39
Speaker
Once you do this, you can't go back. So, you know, just be aware. OK, cool. This will take definitely definitely at that point. All right. So that section of the game is actually much longer than you would expect. Yeah, I thought that was just going to be like an hour. And it was it took me like three or four hours, I think, like everything being told. And again, this is me.
00:13:01
Speaker
You know, getting everything, doing all the like crap and all that stuff and just playing through the game. So that is a I'd say it's the last like quarter of the game, but it's not it's not like an hour. And then, yeah, I beat it. I very, very much enjoyed it. I made a tweet about it, but essentially. I keep reading about how people are having some issues with the platforming.
00:13:30
Speaker
And I'm like, OK, and at the time I didn't really get that. I was like, I understand this platforming, but I found it to be quite fun and quite enjoyable for the most part. And then once I hit this last leg of the game, there are some.
00:13:44
Speaker
Bullshit platforming sections and this isn't even for secrets. This is just like to continue to the game And I was like, oh, okay. This is like the part that you know, in my opinion maybe wasn't play tested quite enough Definitely some some really really obnoxious platforming jumping about a thing with the rings. Yeah for bullshit. Yeah Dude, I would fly off course every single time
00:14:10
Speaker
every single time. Yeah, I went from armor and all my health one time. I think that means I must have failed like 30 times in a row. That game. I wish I liked it more. Like it's good. That was my only issue. But I loved it. That game can also fuck off. I'm so disappointed in it. Like.
00:14:31
Speaker
I got to the midpoint and like I was like, Oh, I'm finally warming up on this game. Like things are feeling good. I got all my fucking like things. Things are going well. And then the games like, Hey, you know what? Every enemy should be some motherfucker with a shield and playing the stone and stone colds voice to just like, Hey, you know what this game means right now? I'm a router.
00:14:54
Speaker
Whenever the story, I think it's doing something clever or interesting or cool, it immediately shoots itself in the foot and goes back to trying to be serious and stupid. That's very, very true. The puzzle platforming is such a fucking roadblock to the actual good part of the game, which is the action. And especially when the game works for me, it's when you're doing those slayer gates.
00:15:21
Speaker
Like the amount of fucking like murder and action and fun that's in those is so good. But there's only like what is it? It's like four. Oh, no. Yeah, I guess there are sex. Yeah. Not enough, in my opinion. They really are. There's really to me, I found this a little bit. I found those gates a lot easier than the actual in game stuff because the in game stuff is such horseshit and they don't give you enough like little fucking like troops.
00:15:48
Speaker
Well, I mean, I don't know. So I don't quite agree with with your your. I mean, I understand your their your issues, obviously. But yeah, I kind of liked the the jumps between the combat because it kind of because if the whole thing was just, you know, ripping and tearing, I think I would have kind of gotten a little numb to it. I did like some of the sections where I was just jumping around and oh, let me try to get this one up and
00:16:15
Speaker
Let me try to do this and that thing. Well, yeah, finding secrets. I always enjoy like in Doom 2016. That was a blast. But in this one, it's like, OK, here, I'm going to put you in an area. And here's a weird mechanic that we've never explained. And you're just going to have to fucking fuck around for like 30 minutes and then realize that you're supposed to shoot something to get it to open. And it's never been like explained that you can do that. Oh, you're talking about like the acid pools.
00:16:45
Speaker
Yeah, this is lame. There's a lot of weird little things like that that are just such fucking roadblocks to the game being something that I really enjoy. So it's good. When it's working, it's real good. But it's disappointing to me to see how far they decide. They overworked it. It's like Homer Simpson's car.
00:17:16
Speaker
where, uh, do you remember that episode? Yeah, like it's over idealized like words like, well, here's a, here's a fucking ice grenade and here now you have a fucking magical sword that insta kills demons and it's like fucking calm down. Are you saying it's like the Vita? It's the PS Vita.
00:17:47
Speaker
I like some of the weak points I think.
00:17:51
Speaker
like shooting the, what are they called? The makers, what are they called? Oh, the maker drone shots. Yeah, the maker drones, the head shots like that kind of opened up that whole area for me and made everything much easier. I liked them until I had to do that fucking boss battle.
00:18:10
Speaker
in the middle of a boss battle, you said? In the middle of a boss battle, that's all you get thrown against. And she literally sets the map on fire. And oh my god. See, I have an issue. I have so many videos of hookshot glitches. It's a mess. I have issue with boss battles in that game more than anything. I feel like a lot of them, a lot of like,
00:18:31
Speaker
The story sets it up for these kind of climactic battles. And then you're kind of just left with three rooms full of, you know, troops, minions. And I like that. Don't get me wrong. Like, it's funny because the minions are really a boss battle. The minions are there to chainsaw to get your ammo back to actually kill the boss.
00:18:51
Speaker
Right. And the boss themselves are always kind of underwhelming. You know, most of the fights for me, like I never. Well, in this one, they're like, here's a dude with a shield and a whip. You're going to do some jump rope here. I'm a flying girl.
00:19:08
Speaker
It's very as an overshield. Yeah, they're very kind of just sort of bland in comparison to the rest of the game. That's kind of my my biggest issue with the gameplay. Well, the thing is, is in my opinion, like a lot of the bosses, you know, air quote bosses, they just become, you know, additional steps of enemies, you know, like.
00:19:28
Speaker
The Doom Slayer guys, you know, it was like, oh, this is a boss. And now it's like, oh, here's three of them. And at that point, I mean, I really did feel like the game was definitely like, OK, now that you handled this and two levels later, like let's throw three. Let's just make them a part of the normal thing that you're going to have to fight. Well, I got to feel like they're harder when you fight them originally. Yeah. Yeah. They have they have a bit of a yeah. There's a for sure life bar. But
00:19:55
Speaker
And they're kind of they're kind of bullshit in a lot of ways. Like the first marauder you fight is total bullshit. Like the marauders are garbage. But like the other marauders that you fight, I have way easier time with. You know, the marauder, I feel like once I went back and replayed that level just for oh, because there's like a master level or something that you can do, which is like a kind of a remix version of that level. I don't know. To me, he was just like any other marauder marauder I fought.
00:20:25
Speaker
I will say they the game tends to, you know, if they're going to be that frustrating because because the reality is, is they're not that difficult. It's just they're they're more annoying than difficult. They demand your attention. One hundred percent. Yeah. And the thing is, is you can't don't bother with them if you're attacking other things like it's a fucking horse. And it's going to kill something for bother with them.
00:20:51
Speaker
And the difference between like this and something like Dark Souls is you get like a third person perspective on a lot of these like bosses that are kind of assholes for lack of a better word, that kind of ping the same combos and make it hard to hit them. So you can see the whole environment that you're fighting in kind of can dodge. Whereas with this, your forced perspective in front of you, and it's hard to maneuver for me,
00:21:18
Speaker
to get to get around. The dashes are too fast and they move you too far away when you're fighting more otters for me. You're like Devin where everything should just be in third person.
00:21:32
Speaker
What about the boss that requires like reflex? Yeah, I haven't played Doom Eternal yet. But to be fair, though, Chris, like Dark Souls is the boss game, right? You're right. You're right. It's never going to be wrong. So they're going to there's going to be that's probably going to be more like.
00:21:49
Speaker
detailed and like complex then something like doom like oh there are just like or even just the first person shooter boss in general isn't gonna be this marauder has a lot of movement and the thing is it's hard because he's so fast to kind of dodge him correctly like if you get the way it works shot is you get too close to him he shoots you with the shotgun if you get too far away from them he shoots these like lasers at you
00:22:17
Speaker
So you have to find this middle ground. Sweet spot. Yeah. This sweet spot, like a midway point between him and yourself. Oh, I see. So it's always has a shield up. Unless if he's attacking, if you're in first person, because I'm really sure you can't really gauge how far you. Yeah. Oh, and he teleported.
00:22:33
Speaker
Fucking teleports. He teleports, he runs at you, he sends a dog at you. He's a lot to deal with. He's a shitty enemy. So is that like like is like there's like mechanics to the boss? Like, yeah. Yeah. OK. Every enemy now has like has vital weak points that you have to actually kind of go after and like change your guns to hit. Like you can try and like do it. But if you're doing that, you're not you're not going to go too far. So like every enemy kind of has like their their weaknesses.
00:23:01
Speaker
that forces you to change your guns up and change your encounters. The way I got around Marauders is I turned on one of my runes that allows that every time you get a glory kill, you move faster. Oh, the speed one? Yes, exactly. Behind him. Exactly. That's a pretty good idea. I basically do the Dark Souls thing where I would maneuver myself behind him and just keep shooting, blasting away when I was faster.
00:23:27
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. And John, the thing is, is like, you can't, you can't just like assault him, right? Uh, anytime you would try to attack him, his shield just automatically goes up. It's like, you can't just like, you can't just DPS his ass. Yeah. So, so you have to wait. And so you have to be again in that middle sweet spot, which again is hard to go after him immediately though.
00:23:48
Speaker
No, I sense that fucking dog after you know, dude, that's the thing. You want a hundred percent. You have to fucking go after him. I never demand your attention. Oh, could you demand your attention or else he sends the dog out? So the thing is, is most of the arenas where he fights you and slows you down. Well, it fucking sucks. Yeah, you definitely got to kill the dog. But most of the arenas where he shows up again after that first scenario is there's there's little jump pads. And I would always you get I would just get high. Yeah, it's kind of it's over.
00:24:18
Speaker
But the thing is, the thing is, John is like when he attacks his eyes flash green and that is the literally only time you can hit him. So you hit him and then he staggers. But the the other issue is that there's really only two guns in my experience in the game that are actually worth using them. It's the super shotgun and like that, the one shot pulse gun, like not a lesson.
00:24:41
Speaker
Yeah, because if you're trying to use an assault rifle, it's not really going to work. He's just going to auto put a shield up. And the thing is, with the super shotgun, you can't like you can just fire it quickly. But like I feel I felt like I had to shoot him pause for a hot second and then shoot him again. Otherwise, like the game didn't I didn't feel like the game was registering the second hit.
00:25:02
Speaker
So once I would just like basically use that and Chris, frankly, I think your your plan is probably more optimal than what I was doing. Yeah, that actually sounds like a really good idea. I had to wait for I had to kill everything else.
00:25:15
Speaker
and leave that guy for last because at that point it was just, I would fight the guy. Oh, and the other thing, John is you have your chainsaw, right? And your chainsaw will always regen up to one use. So basically what happens a lot of the time is you're fighting these enemies and then the minions will continuously respond. You know, they're just kind of nothing enemies. So once you
00:25:38
Speaker
Once you're using up all your ammo, because you will use all your ammo, you just chainsaw a guy that gives you a little bit of health and then a lot of the ammo back. And then you just kind of got to farm those minions while you're handling the marauder, who at this point is realistically going to be the last enemy on the map.
00:25:55
Speaker
so there's minions there just to give you ammo then yeah that's all yeah and that's why the chainsaw regens or shields or you know like like there is a combat circle through the game where it's like you're gonna set people on fire yeah you're gonna chainsaw people to get your health back and then you're gonna
00:26:13
Speaker
I mean, chainsaw people to get your ammo back and then you're going to glory kill people to get your health back. Yeah, freezer glory people. And the thing is, is like eventually get to the point, John, where you're running around and you're like, I'm going to flame these five enemies. I'm going to freeze them and then I'm going to shoot two of my grenades that are going to like create because at that point you can level up your your grenades. So at that point, like I'm going to freeze my enemies.
00:26:37
Speaker
launch a grenade that's going to turn into a bunch of mini grenade clusters. And I would do that twice. And at some point, there's just a fountain of fucking green and health that just flies out of these enemies. And then essentially you just kind of do that until it kind of gets to that point where there's like a handful of enemies left. And then it's just like, OK. And then and then Steve mentioned you at some point get like a fucking uber sword that is very, very rare. The ammo is very rare, but I cannot kill marauders with it.
00:27:06
Speaker
You know this super that attacks you if you're idle too long or not attacking the boss. What is that? Like that happens. That's what that sounds. That sounds annoying as hell. It is. It's it's listen. It's Steve's right. It's obnoxious. I think that's he he's he's design. Like the thing is the game so expertly crafted with the enemy types that
00:27:33
Speaker
There's no doubt in my mind that they're like, oh, this guy's people are going to fucking hate this guy. But yeah, I wish they were just a little. I just wish they were a little more lenient, like make the shield break after something because at some point he just becomes a fucking nightmare.
00:27:49
Speaker
But other than that, like the boss fights, I tend to like the, the fighting room by room, like in the story, I generally think it has a good pace to it. Like I don't feel, I feel, I don't necessarily feel exhausted by the fighting groups of demons. I feel more exhausted every time I have to go through like a boss fight.
00:28:12
Speaker
That's where I like have to put it down and be like, all right, now I got to take a break. If I was going like demon to demon, I'd be so down. Yeah. But like the game is like, all right, we're going to do some demon stuff and then I here's a room that you're now locked in and you have to find the magic button that's behind a pillar.
00:28:32
Speaker
But I hate how it like it fucking loves to like slow your momentum It's just like all right We're gonna do this kind of like the opposite of what doom should be as well Yeah, like like the original doom that are not the original doom. I mean 2016 doom
00:28:49
Speaker
It had that all perfectly. It just goes. Well, OK, so I'm going to jump on the story because there's one part in the story that I thought was going to be cool. And then this is a minor spoiler, but it's not really that major. It's OK. I mean, there's a point in Doom, so it's like, yeah, so it's nothing. So there's a part where it's like.
00:29:11
Speaker
throw him into the arena and i was like oh shit are they counting the fact that he was in quake 3 arena and he's gonna that's gonna be part of the story because they kind of go through the history of the doom guy yeah and then it's just like nah he just fought a bunch of dudes i'm like fuck even when you have something cool set up you fuck it up
00:29:30
Speaker
I would have liked to have played through those flashbacks to a little bit. They should have. That would have been cool. They really fucked up the story in this like you kind of like you come in not understanding like where you're at like.
00:29:45
Speaker
Lore wise, I mean, like the story has never been that important, but it's just like, okay, we have a spaceship. And I talked about this last week, but it's, it's such a fucking like fuck up in my head. And I was like, ah, you couldn't catch your landing after that. I think it's the biggest missed opportunity of the game. Like in my opinion, like I never thought the story was, it was almost dismissed in the first game by the main character. And that's what kind of made it fun, but there was still something there and it was all the periphery, you know?
00:30:15
Speaker
Did I talk about the the chain gun giant heart in this on last week's podcast? Um, I don't think so. Okay, so there's a point where you come across you get the chain gun and then like not even a minute later you come across a giant super demon heart. Yep. Yep. Yep. And it's like
00:30:34
Speaker
You got to go to the left in the right chambers and shut off the valves and then you can access the supercomputer like your little AI like dudes talking to you and you're holding this fucking chain gun and If this was 2016 doom, he would have just shot that fucking heart But this one you have to go do all the shit it's
00:30:56
Speaker
It's it's more it needs to believe that the doom slayer isn't so much ripping and tearing as much as just figuring out puzzles He's a good listener. He's a good listener. He's good. He's got good eyes good perception like yeah, my main complaint is It's good, and it points. It's really good. Yeah, but it's unfortunately like I
00:31:20
Speaker
It's just not all there and it should have been. That's my only complaint. It's this really great thing that disappoints. First-person perspective cutscenes throughout the entire game, a more dismissive, angry Doom Slayer for me. That's what I wear down with the story. Generally, that's what I feel like is missing. I mean, you don't think he's not dismissive? I mean, he's pretty like,
00:31:48
Speaker
You know, like he is fucking dismissive, man. I want to be really careful with this robot and he just fucking yanks it out of the thing. Well, those are all great. Those are those first person perspective cut scenes that I feel like really do work, like grabbing the human UAC guy with the red key card and pulling him towards the door. Like that stuff is why I like the Doom Slayer. It's the stuff where I have to see like the priests. I think they're called, right? No. Yeah, right.
00:32:17
Speaker
the priest or the maker, those maker people talk and like holograms like, I'm just like, shut the fuck up. And he's doing slayer and it pulls out. It's like a third person. And he's just going about his business doing he has to do, I just wanted it there to be a little bit more of like a fuck you.
00:32:34
Speaker
to those scenes by the Doom Slayer, instead of just doing what he had to do, like more just like, get the fuck out of here, shooting something to disable the hologram that's talking, like a little flavor in those. Like just him doing what Doomguy does. Like, I don't want him paying attention and giving these people their monologuing plot points. Like, fuck that.
00:33:02
Speaker
We've got a thousand Codex entries in this game. Leave that for that. Yeah. I mean, I mean, frankly, I see it's funny as I'm kind of in the opposite boat. Like I wish the Codex entries were halved and some of that was like audio logs or actual cut scenes because I guess really it's more of a it's really it's more of a listen, if you're going to do it, like stick a, you know, pick one. Right. And yeah. And it seemed like they didn't like he was either going to make it dismissive
00:33:31
Speaker
Or if you're not going to make it dismissive, like go all in. And it definitely felt like they didn't do either. Yeah, I agree with that. There's more lore than, you know, which kind of like seems like it kind of you were like, oh, my God, relax. And to me, I was like, you know, like I dig the lore and like these Codex entries are cool, but like, geez, it's all Codex entries. And then again, like the last boss is, you know, definitely kind of
00:34:00
Speaker
you know references the lore of course obviously and you're like oh you know if you read all the things you're like okay i i kind of get it now but um i'm curious if like you know you're going through the game and not reading a single thing uh like yup which sounds like what steve's doing um
00:34:18
Speaker
You know, you're probably like, OK, whatever. But I mean, again, we're talking about big bosses or, you know, the boss, boss fights in general. I won't spoil it. I will just say the last boss of the game is pretty fun. I mean, it's nothing mind blowing. I think if you're, you know, you have your complaints about the boss fights, I don't think it's going to change your mind either which way. But I dug it. You know, it was kind of I think some of the better aspects of the Doom combat.
00:34:47
Speaker
where it's like, Oh, blow this big chunk off. And it's, you know, it's very satisfying in my opinion. Okay. Uh, the boss fight. So, and Steve, you're seems like you're right there. Yeah. I'm going to, I'm going to beat it at some point, probably tonight or tomorrow. Were you hitting the point where you were going into, Oh no, man. Oh, well, yeah. So there's still a little bit more there. Um, in my opinion, some of the hardest.
00:35:11
Speaker
Uh, outright the hardest segments of the game are definitely like in that lead up to it, uh, to the point where you're like, Jesus Christ. Um, but you know, like, like you have to fight like.
00:35:23
Speaker
three cyber demons at once with everything else that the game throwing in at you. So I don't really have problems with cyber demons. I mean, I don't I'm not saying like I have a problem with I'm just saying like the game is just like we're just going to vomit enemies. Yeah. I mean, that's the part I like in these games. Like if you're just throwing like thousands of enemies at me, hell yeah. Like the the Doom Eternal combat works. But like when it's like, all right, we're going to throw just like two fat cyber Mancubus is
00:35:53
Speaker
And then I'm like, well, I don't have enemies. I don't have, like, little fodder enemies to, like, up my very low ammo count. So I'm going to finish at some point. Let's probably move on. Definitely hovering over here in the fuck. Marry, fuck, kill. I'm definitely a solid major fuck. So that means a disappointment then. A little bit, yeah.
00:36:17
Speaker
Because we were this was one of the most anticipated games that we had this definitely hit number one. He's a group at one point and it was fucking delayed. So it's like, why was it delayed? Yeah, it was delayed. Yeah, that's very true. That kind of adds that kind of adds to it. Like you got it. You got to work hard. You got to work extra hard to get back up when you delay the game to, you know, I mean, I think for me, uh, then you're just people are just going to love it anyway, even if it's shit.
00:36:44
Speaker
For me, it definitely settles into the Mary spot. It's not a hard Mary. Wow, Mary. It's a hard Mary, but it's and maybe there are some X factors involved. Like, oh, my God, there's something to do after weeks of quarantine. Maybe there's a little bit of that. But I mean, again, my issues with it, I don't think we're as extreme as like Steve's or Chris's. I very much enjoyed it.
00:37:09
Speaker
You know, like if I had to, cause like when I went to 20 doom, 2016, I got to it.
00:37:16
Speaker
a little late, like it had been out for a little bit. And I was just very, very impressed. And this time around, I was just going like, I knew what to expect. And that's that's kind of the issue with this, like, and I brought it up, I think, in the last time we podcasted like there's this one thing that the original doom that this doom will never have. And that's surprised.
00:37:40
Speaker
I had no clue that the Doom remake was any good until you guys told me.
00:37:48
Speaker
Right. Personally, that it was interesting. And then shock, lo and behold, still was shocked when I played it. And it was fucking decent. And one of the best first person shoes are played, really. Yeah. Yeah. It was definitely one of the best ever. To be honest, that that that game, I play a lot of shooters. So, yeah, I mean, like, that was my favorite way.
00:38:11
Speaker
Yeah, it's at a gold standard for what I would imagine a first-person shooter should be and now this doesn't really have that luxury It is already that I'm looking for it to evolve and it really didn't evolve No, that that's I'm with you Chris on this being a fuck
00:38:29
Speaker
It could have just been more of 2016 doom and it's cool that the developers wanted to go further than that but unfortunately, I feel like they didn't actually have a They didn't have a feel of what they wanted doom 2 to

Doom Eternal Narrative Critique

00:38:43
Speaker
be. Yeah, so they kind of just
00:38:47
Speaker
They went they went the dumb route where it's like, OK, the funny parts are going to be like he's got like a cool guitar and PC game wall in his in his home office. But like the story is going to be like legit. And it's like, fuck, you obviously didn't get what you were doing in the last game. It's a very canned story. It's a very formulaic.
00:39:08
Speaker
and I know I'm saying that about a Doom story and I get that but like it was set up to be at least the beginning of the game to be a little bit more of a deep dive into Doom and Doom Slayer and these worlds and it just all seems rather shallow and
00:39:24
Speaker
Yeah, like if it didn't grab you by the head during those parts. Yeah. And like, look, look at me. Look at my mediocrity. I would have been like, oh, fine. OK. But yeah, it's just even more obnoxious that it's like in your face the entire time. All right. So MFF. So, John, at some point, you will have to play it. Yeah, I do recommend it. Yeah, but I like

Resident Evil 3 Excitement

00:39:50
Speaker
to. Yeah, now I'm probably.
00:39:52
Speaker
Not gonna rush to get I'm probably gonna get after Resident Evil 3
00:39:56
Speaker
Yeah, Resident Evil comes out this week, so. Yeah, so I'm going to get that and finish that first. And then. Oh, I played the demo. Oh, what do you think, Chris? What do you think, Chris? Nemesis is something else. They gave us Mr. X, and then they give us fucking Stronger Father in this one. Stronger Father. I saved up all my grenades, so I was just hucking him whenever he got close and just made a beeline.
00:40:26
Speaker
after I staggered him, because you have to. You have to. You're just wrong. I like there's a lot of like interactive explosives around and like something that electrocuted him when I threw the grenade. Am I quite sure what that was? Oh, interesting. That's pretty cool. Yeah. Maybe he was in a puddle or something. Yeah, like it looked like he ran into a puddle and like a car exploded and electrocuted. I'm not quite sure exactly what that was. There's a lot of like interactive surroundings.
00:40:55
Speaker
which I thought was really cool and the dodging. Oh, my God. I wish that was in two. God damn it. So you kind of got a feel for it. Oh, man, I was bebopping and scatting all over these zombies. That's really cool. It's fucking great. I'm excited to get to that point. I didn't quite hit it. And for, you know, for I guess a variety of reasons, I just kind of was like, all right, I'll I'll I'll do it when I do it. But yeah, yeah.
00:41:25
Speaker
I got some work to do on the dodging. I think it's I, I died twice to Nemesis because he rushed me the first time. And I, you have to, you really have to learn your lesson immediately with him. Like cornered me too.
00:41:43
Speaker
Yeah, dude, he hates you, man. He fucking hates you on the back of his jerseys. Does he hate me? Yeah. Yeah. Oh, interesting mechanic. They're throwing in with the tumors or whatever the fuck he's putting on their heads. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Super zombies. Yeah. Or some exploding zombies or something like that. Pretty short, but overall pretty, pretty terrifying.
00:42:10
Speaker
It was a solid demo. I'm glad that it was that much and not too much and just enough.
00:42:17
Speaker
Was the twenty five gigabytes? How big was the two demo? Ten minutes or 30 minutes. Oh, yeah. 30 minutes. It was a 30 minute timer. That was the right. Yeah. That was. Yeah. It wasn't gated by like. Yeah. Yeah. There was definitely like a stop point. And that was the stop point is when you it's like, oh, look, you can go find a marker like, hey, come back to the room. I got to show you something. But again, like, you know, kind of in contrast of what you guys are saying about Doom 2016 and
00:42:47
Speaker
and do maternal it's like you know we kind of see that this isn't just Resident Evil 3 with a Resident Evil 2 remake skin on it like they're actually throwing a couple like really important mechanics in this game that are gonna be
00:43:04
Speaker
that I don't think we're going to be able to beat the game or progress in the game unless you master some of those skills. Absolutely. And that's cool. It's cool to see that that it's not just, you know, because we were kind of afraid. Did you do a quick turn? Oh, well, you know, I completely forgot to do that.
00:43:21
Speaker
I did. But Paul Macy, he he corroborated your story. OK, Steve. So like, so I believe it. I actually haven't gone gone back in there. I wanted to, but I might not. I just wait now until the game comes out. I'll tell you, this definitely felt more like I was running for my life than in Resident Two.
00:43:47
Speaker
Which is what it's supposed to be like it's supposed to be that right? Yeah, Resident Evil 2 you're investigating What happened and this one's like you're trying to get out of the city like? Then Claire story yeah, that's true. Yeah, yeah
00:44:02
Speaker
Like in Resident Evil 2, the only parts that like you ever really feel that I would say is the very, very beginning where it's like there's just like all those zombies coming out from like the city and into the station. But like you're just in the streets on this one. So it's all fucking pandemonium all the time. It's great. Yeah, I like that. Definitely digging it. Yeah, it's Friday, right? That is Friday. Yeah.
00:44:29
Speaker
I'm glad it's Friday. I really dig these Friday releases of games. It's smart. Yeah. Uh, and then the week after that's final fantasy seven, maybe any of us will be able to beat resident three in a couple of days down to Devin. It's Devin. It's all up to you, buddy. Oh man. So let me ask you guys this. Um, yes, I was so obviously I was supposed to be on vacation actually. I was still a way. Uh, so,
00:44:59
Speaker
Obviously not on vacation. I have been kicking around the idea of actually taking a day off when Ari three comes out or Final Fantasy seven. But I just also feel like both seven come out next week.
00:45:14
Speaker
Yeah, it's the next week. Yeah. You better buck down, brother. And you better finish that game before Final Fantasy comes out. That's the thing, right? That's going to be 80 hours of the first act of the game of the story. And of course, whatever. But I'm like, should I just take a day?
00:45:37
Speaker
I had all this time he was like saved up that now I'm not using, but I also just feel like it's fucking pointless to take a day off. Terry, I'm kind of I'm kind of in a in somewhat of a pickle was Resident Evil three because there was. No, that's that's last of us. Yeah, I'm never going to play that game. You want to play the game about life after a pandemic strikes the world. I want to bring that up later is like, because hopefully things will be calmed down by then.
00:46:07
Speaker
and then we have to go back into a fucking pandemic type game. But no, because my friend Mark usually comes over and stays real late and watches me play Resident Evil and kind of plays it with me. So I don't know. I mean, I guess I can try to do share play for that with him. Yes. You can just stream it. Yeah, maybe I'll do that. Hell yeah, dude. So he can watch me, watch along with me.
00:46:36
Speaker
Or I, you know, I'm like, why don't you just get it and then we can talk about it? But I don't know. I don't know. We'll see. Well, I think he enjoys the social aspect of. Yeah, because we yeah, because we did we did remake on GameCube when that came out and he stayed. He beat in one sitting like the whole night. And then the day he didn't he just sat there and we played it together. And then
00:47:05
Speaker
Four, no. But then when two came out, the remake came out, he came over. And then we were planning on having our little Resident Evil date for three. So then, you know, this broke out. So we'll see.
00:47:19
Speaker
And then the team will just actually hit. Yeah, the T virus actually hit. Yeah, that'd be awesome. I'd watch. Yeah. Fucking John and Mark commentary. I mean, I'm going to be playing, but I would also watch you and Mark do a running commentary on the game. You guys are playing and streaming. Well, maybe, yeah, because like you went on your little P break, but I was saying that that I started a snitch. Chris, you know, my friend Mark.
00:47:48
Speaker
usually comes over and like sits with me and while I play the game and we usually have like a little date.
00:47:55
Speaker
when it comes to these these Resident Evil games. And we can't do that now because you guys cannot hang out because you're going to end up making out and you're going to be passing the coronavirus to each other. Yeah. Yeah. Whenever they die in Resident Evil, they kiss. And that's just that's just what happens. That's how we play the game. It's hard. Yeah. John gets scared. He's never played X-Men. Have you guys ever played X-Men? Oh, no. You guys don't pee together and make an X with your pee streams?
00:48:28
Speaker
My bad. Yeah, I'll figure something out. I'll be like, dude, get a headset. And then we'll play together.
00:48:40
Speaker
But um, I plus with share play can I like I mean if he's up to it But can I just like can't transfer control to him if you want to play a little bit, too? Yeah Those PSN downloads Fucking day zero ps4 I played that demo
00:49:05
Speaker
And I felt everything seize, or at least it looked like it did on my screen. I was like, uh-oh, this is it. This is the big one. I was considering my PlayStation 4 to be like Red Fox from Sanford and so I'm like, this is the heart attack.
00:49:21
Speaker
That kills the machine. And how much is it PS4 slim? Is it like that much? Oh, PS4 stand up, bro. Yeah. Oh, we thought we thought you were going to talk about big leagues now. Fuck that, dude. Like, if it's like over one hundred dollars, like I'm just proud. I'm looking it up now. I'm looking up on Amazon for pro is a slim one terabyte, a slim one terabyte is 276 on Amazon, normally 300. OK, let's see. It's only one hundred dollars less than the pro.
00:49:51
Speaker
uh let's see row is 345 on amazon because you know what happens steve this is what dev this is what happens with dev and like i start thinking about it and then things just start breaking and then i have now right like i'm pretty committed and then i have to at that point i can't do that yourself
00:50:09
Speaker
Yeah, or I don't know sit on my sit on my nintendo 2ds And it breaks. Oh, no, I have my playstation in my back pocket and I spat on it actually uh real quick real quick, uh Touch down the toilet. I got gay iphone now. I won this lovely. I had one of those lovely scenarios So, you know, like how every once in a while like, you know, you'll get out of bed and your phone just fucking flies across the room, right? It's probably
00:50:34
Speaker
It's never happened to you ever in your life. Nope. Nope. You've never had you've never like just had your phone like just fly out. Just fly out and hit your weights and crack in half. One time I fell asleep in my bed with my glasses on and they were sitting next to my pillow somehow. I don't know how that happened, but they were sitting folded on my pillow next to my head.
00:51:00
Speaker
And then you could never read for the apocalypse. You've never, you've never just like gotten out of bed and something in your bed just flies. Like, you know, like from the sheet, you getting up from the sheet has never happened to you. No, that happened to a good friend of ours, Chris, and you were present for it.
00:51:18
Speaker
I'm kind of curious what you're talking about. Our friend Dave, when his phone flew across the room. Oh, yeah, that's right. So basically, that essentially happened to me, and it did, it just landed specifically on the weight set that, I have free weights, and it just, fuck it, I have like, it looks like I threw it in the highway. To be fair, Devin, your room is littered with free weights and dumbbells. There's only two. There's only two, and it found one of them.
00:51:45
Speaker
They weren't even close together. Yeah, but they're they're a hundred thousand pound dumbbells. No, Steve, they could have been two pounds is the fact that. So, hold on. So, so this happened. And then like, what was your solution? Did you have to replace the screen or? No, I mean, I'm just living with a fucked up screen right now. Take a picture with whatever you can. I would like to. That's the thing. I don't have anything else to take. So I've even told everybody that your phone got coronavirus.
00:52:12
Speaker
I mean, yeah. So so I have a little bit of a I don't know. What do you call it? Like the fuzzies on the on the. You didn't get insurance on your phone. No, dude. No, I did. Five. So this is the second time. This is the second. And you're like, you have to what? The the the note, the galaxy note. Yeah, galaxy. You got a fucking fifteen hundred dollar phone.
00:52:38
Speaker
Like, well, the other thing, the other thing is my battery and my battery start doing that thing where, you know, it was like 75 percent, 50 percent, 23 percent dead, like it, 23 percent, 1 percent dead. And I plugged it in and I was like, oh, boy, we're back up the 40 percent. And I was like, oh, man, I got to look up because this phone may be paid off at this point. I really don't know.
00:53:03
Speaker
I think you're running over your card Twice No, but uh, you know, I was like, oh of course, of course happy Monday The day after a podcast I was all I was all talking out from podcasts and I got out of my bed a little too excited
00:53:25
Speaker
and my world exploded. Next week, we get to find out what you threw next. Yeah, I'll be like, hey, guys, my whole- My TV. Did you ever wake up and watch your TV across the room and hit somebody's weights? Hey, guys, my switch. It happened. My switch flew across the room and just fell under my car and ran over a few times. That's so weird.
00:53:50
Speaker
You got to get a chain wallet for all these things. Yeah, that's a good idea. I would have I could have changed yourself to all of your possessions. Mm hmm. I already am emotionally. Wow. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa.

Nintendo Direct and Expectations

00:54:14
Speaker
Well, we already talked about our depressing quarantine lives, so. Well, there was a Nintendo Direct. There was a mini direct. There was a Nintendo Direct. It feels like so long ago. Time has changed.
00:54:19
Speaker
Whoa.
00:54:31
Speaker
I don't know how to describe it. There was a fake leak before the Nintendo directed me. I heard about the fake leak. And it got my dick so fucking hard. It sounded too good. But it was too good to be true. It was like, oh, they're going to announce like, Breath of the Wild. They're going to announce Super Mario Galaxy 2, Breath of the Wild 2, fucking, what else? Fallout 4. The new Batman game. They're going to announce the new fucking Batman game for Nintendo.
00:55:01
Speaker
Pikmin for Pokemon Snap. Dude, actually, these great ideas. I don't understand why. Super Drift Brothers. I get it. You can make a career at it. Just make it up. Fake Nintendo. I read this rumor. I was on 4chan and turns out last was three. It's going to be on the switch. Well, look at this. The last the last line says, quote, that's all we have to show you in this direct.
00:55:31
Speaker
but ends with Mario Odyssey 2 showing gameplay of Mario and Luigi.
00:55:35
Speaker
playable in new world such as island delfina release windows given of 2021 yeah like that's like fucking telling a kid that sandclaws isn't real dude you know what i'm sorry if i would have read this if i would have read this it's all geno in smash i would have been like this no way this is true no dude that'd be fucking cool as hell if they put geno in smash it would be amazing i would love geno but you know it's not we should do smash sometime this week we should all play smash
00:56:06
Speaker
Chris, get yourself a $500 switch because that's how they're selling. That's how high they are now price-wise. What? Yeah. So all the switches sold out. Yeah. They're super hard to come by. Are you sure the coronavirus came from China? Because it sounds like it's paying to me. What do people mean? Animal Crossing, the highest selling game of all time?
00:56:34
Speaker
Oh, oops. Because of quarantine. Animal Corona. Yeah. Oops, we got all this money. Although they did, they did fucking donate a bunch of a bunch of masks and shit and shut down their repair, the repair headquarters. So they're like, if you sent shit in, sorry, like it's just not going to happen right now. We coughed on it a bunch and then sent it back. But, you know, so.
00:57:02
Speaker
I don't know. But yes, the actual Nintendo. Yeah. Give us all this big news. Give us all the big, big title drop that they gave us. The biggest news, Steve, was a generic arms character will be in Smash Bros. Hey. OK, so I think I haven't called this two, but I think it's going to be everybody. I think it's going to be all the arms characters interchangeable. Isn't them a trophy?
00:57:30
Speaker
Yes, a spring man or spring boy is one of the assist trophies. Hold on. Time out. If one of them is already trophying, they're going to put him in the game. Does this mean Waluigi might actually be in the game? No. Waluigi was found dead this week. He's quarantined and didn't realize that he should he should probably. He was he was in Italy at the time. And I do like the idea that he was a suicide, too.
00:57:58
Speaker
Oh, oh, that's the status.
00:58:01
Speaker
You have Mario put him out of his misery. I do like the idea, though, if if he goes from a trophy to a character, it's it's not going to start sweating. Don't start talking. I can't. You can't. I will take a video of me deleting the game from, you know, I'd like it to be a twin tell if it was to be one arms character. That's the one. I forget. I forget. Right. There's she had her. No. So the one I'm thinking of, she fought with her hair.
00:58:31
Speaker
She had a thick butt. Oh, yeah. I remember her. Right. Yeah. Yeah. Arms was a fun game, though. I was just fun. That was a fun month. Yeah, I'm not crazy about arms, but it seems like it seems like they're pushing for an arms, too. It feels like. See, I don't know if I agree with that open weekend announcement that they also did during it. They're like free. You could play it for a month. And then you missed an opportunity.
00:59:00
Speaker
What happened? Well, I may be like, oh, they see that they can make money off of dead franchises like Animal Crossing. So they don't cross. You know, they went. Yeah, I was just I was, you know, we're waiting. John and I are waiting for the moment. Is your chance. We can talk about you want to talk about that now. Yeah. Let's let's talk about this. Hold on. Time out. Let's go. We're going to this. Let's go for this Nintendo Direct Mini Borderlands. No, it's on election.
00:59:30
Speaker
Yeah. So all right. So can we talk about that? So Borderlands is going to ship, right? Borderlands and the Bioshock collection. But XCOM 2. Yeah. But I was reading that if you buy the physical copy of Borderlands or Bioshock, it comes with like a separate.
00:59:50
Speaker
like smaller cartridge that has all the cutscenes and shit in them and it's like what and not only that but every time like even if you do buy the physical copy it's still like you still have to fucking install like 30 gigabytes worth of stuff anyway so it's kind of like why even go through the motions and
01:00:10
Speaker
and waste resources like creating physical versions of these games. Yeah. So Shry Guy tweeted, the physical game contains a 16-bit gigabyte cartridge, including the opening acts of Bioshock Remastered, Bioshock 2 Remastered, and Bioshock Infinite Complete.
01:00:27
Speaker
edition later game contents and add-on will need to be downloaded And then there was like another one. I think where he yeah, he was just like what is the point of this? And frankly, I don't know I agree with it. Well, I guess I mean I get that Yeah, I understand that people collect their games, right? They like to collect their games But this is a perfect opportunity for them to just create a fucking
01:00:53
Speaker
like just collector's edition or something for those people. Yeah, right. Because those are the people that are going to get it. You know, there are some people that just can't download it. But yeah, the physical game. Anyway, like even like you're only getting the beginning of the game. Yeah. Even if you buy the physical version of the game, you still have to download the game. I mean, yeah. So what's going on with with other consoles, too. So it's like Borderlands game of the year has
01:01:19
Speaker
eight gigs on it that requires a six point six gigabyte download. And then Borderlands 2 in the pre-sequel is 35 gigabytes. So they're not even on the cartridge. But it's like, yeah, well, it's like, well, that's what fucking happens when you put shit on a cartridge. Like we clearly you clearly can't fit games onto that thing like not optimized for the cartridge type games like. Yeah.
01:01:45
Speaker
Because my understanding is Breath of the Wild fits without additional downloads. I'm like, what is it? It's Witcher, Witcher fits, which is which are used as 32 gigabyte cartridge. The problem is most companies don't like to use that because it's the more expensive cartridge to print on. Yeah. Well, it's wonderful. It's a project CD, Project Red. They don't give a fuck. They're like, but at one point, yeah, it's like the whole cartridge thing, unfortunately.
01:02:14
Speaker
Wow. Cool. It's neat to still have cartridges. Uh, it just doesn't serve its purpose anymore. In fact, we're at a point where physical, physical media is just becoming downloads. It's actually dangerous now. Like, do you think, like, this is kind of a good like mini topic to branch off into? Like, do you think after like what has transpired in the last,
01:02:41
Speaker
uh... few months like do you think this is gonna we're gonna see a downtrend in like mass production of physical copies of games because it might put people at risk yeah i think we're gonna see a downtrend of mass physical productions of a lot of anything of a lot of things yeah yeah and like things are gonna start being like ticked off the list like the most useless things first i would like to assume that's gonna happen
01:03:07
Speaker
You know, you never know. Like China, they got cheap labor. And, you know, I don't know. I don't. Yeah. I mean, the thing is, it feels like we're going to say we're going to see like, I'm sure that Bethesda was looking at this and they're like, all right, we they certainly didn't seem like they took a hit. I think I read somewhere like two to three times bigger.
01:03:29
Speaker
was their, their launch day with, uh, you know, with doom eternal, then do you imagine if that game came out, you know, when I was supposed to, I would have had a physical problem. I do actually, but it done worse to be honest. Cause it was what? It was November. It was supposed to come out. I don't know. What the fuck was out in November? Nothing. That was the problem. Call of duty.
01:03:59
Speaker
Like, you know, it's like your usual suspects. I think this virus has made a lot of things more popular than they should be. Toilet paper, toilet paper, a few video games, a documentary about
01:04:14
Speaker
weird people that own tigers everybody is talking about this documentary because they're all at home and this is the thing that's on it's number one watch show on netflix right now as well it's because it's on netflix and everybody's on netflix and they see a guy with a mullet in the mud shot yeah it kind of like skirts the line it squirts the line between like reality tv
01:04:39
Speaker
type shit where you're actually shoving garbage into your brains physically by watching reality TV show and live between that and you know a documentary documentary that sounds classy is gonna outsell Resident Evil 2 in its first day
01:04:57
Speaker
I think so many people are at home and there's nothing to do. But Chris, it's not a real game because it's a remake. So why would people even buy it if it's not an actual game? Because they're bored at this point. Someone went on Amazon.
01:05:15
Speaker
Hey, everybody's getting $1,200. So they can just go on Amazon by themselves, plays days for a couple games and then not feed their family. There you go. I mean, I think the American way.
01:05:30
Speaker
Isn't that the point, though? Like, isn't that why they're giving it so people can just fucking dump money back into the economy and then get taxed on it next year?

Pandemic's Impact on Gaming

01:05:38
Speaker
Absolutely. So I don't want to get into that. But so we got we got we play or the 51 games. Right. The 51 games, but it looks like we bowling. It looks sweet, dude. I might actually get that.
01:05:51
Speaker
Yeah, absolutely. When does that, when does it come out? Did they, did they have really state? I think it was June. Oh, nevermind. So maybe I won't get it. We'll see tomorrow during this mess. There might be a point where we're like, Oh my God, I'll take anything. Fuck. I'll play back. I'm an interesting game though, that I was really
01:06:11
Speaker
Interested and I don't know if it was a release on Steam already, but that good job game Steve. Did you say oh? Yeah, I was watching um That is the right company like yeah, isn't owner of a company and you're trying to like you know earn his fucking
01:06:26
Speaker
Respect so you start doing all the odd jobs around his office building. Oh Yeah, looks like it looks funny. It looks wild making basically everybody like there's shit where he's like organizing, you know cubicles and Doing a lot of custodial work around the office and stuff and ladies. It's always six figures. Oh Yeah, it was cute
01:06:50
Speaker
But that's about all that and a bunch of Xenoblade stuff nobody really cares about. Nobody with a bunch of Xenoblade stuff and it ended with them just talking about the Pokemon expansion that they already talked about. Yeah. Oh, okay. I know it was a Nintendo Direct Mini, but...
01:07:06
Speaker
They said that too, right? They were like, very, this is, this is, don't expect the world. I hope no, but people stop fucking posting those leaks of shit like that. Now, dude, never, never John. I'm going to start now. Yeah. There are so many people that, that, that feel like they have to do this. It's like they're all at home now. Yeah, exactly. It's sad. It's sad. Iced he posted on Twitter. I was like, yo,
01:07:33
Speaker
It seems like there's less hack, uh, there's less trolls nowadays. Yeah. Yeah. He's like, what were y'all doing this at your fucking offices? Nope. I know that was kind of a joke, but that is, that sounds a thousand percent accurate. Yeah, it is. Do it work. Like you're like, Oh my God. It's weird, right?
01:07:53
Speaker
Yeah, I see features though. That is the mainos. And he's a fucking gamer. So, you know, he knows. Triple threat. He's a gamer. And he is. He's a Titan. All right. He loves Destiny. He's playing all this other shit too. And he's a pimp.
01:08:12
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. So we ready for this, John? Are you ready for this? I guess. I mean, I mean, listen, this is just my opinion. You know, it's not like a big.
01:08:24
Speaker
It's not like I want to spend six hours of this on Steve. It's OK. It's OK. I was getting texts until four in the morning. Steve, I'm really glad that you, me and Tim, I think those were wonderful, had a wonderful time on Animal Crossing today because we did. We had an amazing we had such a good day. Devin, what do you got, buddy? OK, so so I think in order to and I'm going to be honest here to be completely
01:08:52
Speaker
To explain this process, I'm gonna need to just tell the story without interruption, so please do me the favor. Chris, as you know, I bought Animal Crossing last week, and so the scenario that had happened for me, I think is a little bit more unique than most, but the scenario was essentially this. I had bought Animal Crossing Sunday, I had started it, played around the tutorial,
01:09:20
Speaker
But more or less didn't really pick it up after about 40 minutes. Right. And I just kind of put it on sleep mode and plugged it back into my doc. And I was like, you know, I should just be doing eternal first. So go ahead and I'd be doing eternal, which I think took me no Thursday, Friday, whatever it was. And at that point, I was like, all right, like, let's let's jump into Animal Crossing. So I started and apparently there was an update.
01:09:49
Speaker
I was like, okay, I'll just download the update. And, uh, what I had found out was I had to restart the game, which is not really a big deal because again, I only put like 30 minutes into it. So I go in, restart the game, pick my Island, do all that, you know, fun stuff. And I go to start the game, which is fine. And, uh, essentially there's like a tutorial section, right? Hey, go pick up sticks, go pick up, you know, fruit, go do this, go do that. Pick, pick your,
01:10:16
Speaker
where your camp's going to be and everything like that. And I was like, okay, that's fine. Yeah. And one of the first things that I did, because keep in mind, I spent about a week and change getting, having people up my ass about visiting their town. Oh, we got, you gotta send me some apples and fruits and fucking this, that, and the other thing. So it was actually, I was excited to go and do this. So.
01:10:37
Speaker
One of the first things I do after I pick my tent and like I sleep into the next day was to try and go do that. And the pilot, there's a little pilot. He's a little dodo. It's actually quite cute. And he's like, hey, the thing's not open yet. It'll be open tomorrow. And I was like, OK, I. OK, sure. Right. You know, clearly some still tutorial things I have to do or maybe I have to unlock the airport. That was my thinking.
01:11:04
Speaker
So I go and do everything that Tom Nook tells me to do. And of course, I hit the whole thing where he's like, oh, by the way, you owe me thirty five thousand bells for the whole fucking campground and all that. And I was like, OK, he's like, but you can pay me off in miles and miles are essentially to me. That's how I viewed them. I kind of viewed them as dailies on like a like a phone app.
01:11:26
Speaker
Uh, where I just go in and I do, you know, catch 10 fish, shake 10 trees, do this, do that, sell four items, things like that, which will net me, you know, goals, which will get me miles. And I had to pay off 5,000 miles to pay off my tent or to pay off my airfare, I guess.
01:11:46
Speaker
Uh, and I was like, okay, I guess when I do this, I'll be able to, you know, get to the airport and, you know, upgrade to my house and everything like that. So the thing is, and I guess this is for everybody, but 75% of your island is basically Matt's off.
01:12:04
Speaker
because you know, eventually you'll get the pole vault and a ladder and all that. So I'm just in this little section and the things don't regen, at least not right away. So once I shake all the trees and get all the apples, I have no more trees to shake for apples.

Animal Crossing Real-Time Frustrations

01:12:19
Speaker
Once I break all the rocks, there's no more rocks to break. So I'm kind of like scrounging for things to do.
01:12:27
Speaker
And keep in mind, again, like I have a very limited space to run around in and I'm kind of like, what the flick? I was just killing. I was getting very frustrated and very annoyed. And then I hit a point where. OK, I got to find five critters, right? Find five critters to give the Tom Nook.
01:12:45
Speaker
and then I can open up a museum. Okay, cool, because I heard John talking to me about the museum, and so was Steve. So I was like, okay, maybe when I do this museum thing, I'll fucking, well, tomorrow, air quotes, tomorrow will come, and I'll be able to do all the other things. The game will open up to me. So I do that.
01:13:08
Speaker
And again, which is kind of a pain because at that point I'm just going in circles, looking for fish, my fishing rod breaks. So I got to go and rebuild my fishing rod like two or three times. OK, that's fine, understandable. And I just kind of I feel like it's like drawing blood from a stone at this point. I'm doing.
01:13:26
Speaker
I'm just like scrounging around to do everything I feel like I had to do to unlock this museum. Eventually I do that. I get the miles. I tell Tom Nook, here are your miles. I give him the critters and Tom looks like, okay, we can start the museum. Pick a spot for the museum. And I was like, perfect. I'm going to pick the spot for the fucking museum. He's going to say, okay.
01:13:47
Speaker
And then I guess, you know, in my head, the game was going to go on and I was going to be able to do all this other things. I picked the spot and he's like, the museum is going to be open tomorrow. And at this point, I really start getting obsessed with the idea of like, how do I get to tomorrow? Like, what the fuck? Because I had beat Doom. I had spent an entire week of playing this game and I was just really ready to dig into this game. So and again, with the miles, I got to all right, you paid off the tent. Now you're going to get a house. What color do you want the roof to be? I was like, oh, sick. I pick a color.
01:14:18
Speaker
And he's like, the house is going to be here tomorrow. And I was like, what the fuck is going on here? So I look it up, I go online and I'm like, how do I get to tomorrow? And I'm reading some guides and none of them are being very clear. So at that point, I had I had met sound ridiculous, by the way. I messaged you right now. I just told you tomorrow. Yeah, I was going on Tuesday. I want to get a Tuesday. I don't know. Mary had the same problem, you know.
01:14:51
Speaker
My paycheck comes on Tuesday. How do I get the Tuesday money now? All right. Well, hold on. So I'm almost done. So just bear with me. So at this point, I met Steve specifically. He does not respond. OK, that's fine. And then I think at one point I had mentioned like in the group, Tim, Steve and Chris. And I was like, you know, this game's fucking I say I'm like, this game fucking sucks, right?
01:15:16
Speaker
Pretty much joking. But then I was like, seriously though, what do I have to do to get to tomorrow? Because I had one of our other friends, our mutual friends Melissa, she was like, yo, when are you going to visit my island? And I was like, I'm trying to. I don't understand what I have to do. And then John and Tim were like, oh, you just literally have to wait. And I was like, what do you mean wait? They're like, just wait until 6 AM tomorrow and it will reset. And I was like, what are you talking about? And I was so disheartened that
01:15:45
Speaker
I was I had such a wall like there was such gatekeeping in this game that I really wasn't expecting that it really took the wind out of my sails. Now, I understand. I understand that the game is not designed to sit down and play for eight hours straight. I do understand that. I was just hoping I was going to be able to do, I guess, the rest of the activities that were seemingly open to me. Like, I don't understand why I had to wait a day to
01:16:15
Speaker
Why did you, why did you, why did you start the tutorial? Wait five seconds and then turn it off. And then, and then, and then continued five days later. Like that's, that's kind of what's driving me nuts about this whole thing. Because we were all there, Devin, we were all there, but the thing is, is like, I mean, I don't know if it was designed specifically because it released at midnight, but I was able to log in on midnight, do all my whatever's.
01:16:42
Speaker
And then I was like, okay, I'll just go to sleep now cause fuck it. And then the next day everything opened up. I did everything. So this one happened. I did everything, uh, that first night Sunday. Uh, and then it was like, talk, talk to Tom Nook and then he'll tell you to go to sleep. So in my head, I was like, Oh, you go to sleep to progress to the next day. Cause that was exactly the game. And it felt like, cause I would lay in bed and he would just lay there like a psychopath with his eyes closed and not doing anything. I was like, I don't understand what I have to do here.
01:17:12
Speaker
Like you can't just like if Melissa saying come to my island. It's just because she wants to fucking flex how bigger dick is On the first day with literally accomplished absolutely nothing it doesn't matter it was the fact that I had spent a
01:17:33
Speaker
How much time did you spend? How much time did you spend? How much time did you spend? How much time did you spend? How much time did you spend? How much time did you spend? How much time did you spend? How much time did you spend? How much time did you spend? How much time did you spend? How much time did you spend? How much time did you spend? How much time did you spend? How much time did you spend? How much time did you spend?
01:17:58
Speaker
I went fishing I broke rocks. I shook trees. I got stung by a wasp. I got medicine like I did all that You sound like one of the idiots on the you sound like one of the idiots on the destiny subreddit
01:18:13
Speaker
that complain every single day about having to wait until reset at one o'clock every day to get their daily weight. No, but that's the thing. Maybe, but it wasn't because I was standing around going like, because I had thought I had like, because now that I know how the game is actually is, it's like now I can be like, okay, I can hop in for 20 minutes, like fucking, I don't know, do this. Did we kind of like warn you though, last week when you said you were combined it?
01:18:40
Speaker
I mean, the way I always look at it is, is a game about patience, like waiting. See, Chris doesn't even, has never even fucking played the game and he gets it. I understand patience. I do. I truly get that.
01:18:56
Speaker
that you were just saying, how do I get to tomorrow? How do I feel? It's Christmas Eve, mom. I want to buy fucking presents right now about Christmas. I'm going to name this. You're misconstruing patients. You're misconstruing me saying tomorrow with
01:19:13
Speaker
Like, oh, my God, I can't believe I have to wait to know, like, that's what the game said. Go to sleep and you'll go to the next day. So I was like, well, I just did that. How do I go back to sleep? Air quotes go back to sleep. You go to the next day because the game had showed me that that was the mechanic to move time. And then I was like, Oh, I think you go to sleep. You go to sleep. Tom Nook wakes you up and is like, hey, I forgot to give you your cell phone again. Then you get you get the big message that says the game will now be in real time.
01:19:43
Speaker
Well, that was yeah. And the thing was, it's like, OK, yeah, like it rains here, it rains there, it's nighttime here, it's nighttime there. OK, that's cool. But I still was expecting that the game would at least let me have my island be open or let me go. You have nothing. No, no, no, no. You can't. Because you can't just you can't just dance and clap. Why not? Why can't I have that?
01:20:16
Speaker
I was optimal with my time. I did literally everything the game You wouldn't have just fucking talked Tom look once on fucking Sunday and then shut for five days I should have said efficient
01:20:33
Speaker
Not and that is the thing right John is the irony here is if I just talked to Tom Took my nap and then didn't touch it for five days. I wouldn't have even run into this issue It exactly exactly what you said would have happened. I would have turned the game on I wouldn't be able to go You wouldn't have done that with any other game either
01:20:50
Speaker
It's the fact that you didn't respect the game and off to put the time in. I played it, and I was like, you know what? I really want to beat you. Let me just beat you in the first. OK, so when you started God of War, when you started God of War, but you still had something else to beat, did you just turn it on and then just fucking turn it off after five minutes? No, you didn't fucking do that. You're the picker. Wait, hold on.
01:21:12
Speaker
They're two totally different games. I was in, I was like, okay. If you did that first night, you would have been fine. And again, my argument again is like, oh, you play God of War and then you do the stranger fight and you're like, oh, that was great. And then, oh, we got to wait till 6 a.m. the next day to like progress with the story. You'd be like, well, that seems frustrating. That seems like some
01:21:39
Speaker
So it's really hypothetical bankkeeping. No, no, no, because God of War is not that kind of game, though. God of War is not a game about that. It's not a game about life. Animal Crossing is a game about living your life and balancing your checks and balances when it comes to time and resources. That's the whole point of the fucking game. So if they just let you fucking dump hours into it and gain experience grinding like Final Fantasy or whatever, then it wouldn't be what it is.
01:22:08
Speaker
I mean, all I'm saying also is my my arguments and complaints were uh, docked as legitimate by two of the most hardest to please people on the discord I will also state that Are you talking awesome? Uh, rain and rain and rain like yeah, no devins, right? Like those are legitimate complaints game and cry round even plays game sitting I'm just saying he said he read an interview and then you're legit you're you're you're legit it's fine
01:22:36
Speaker
and listen i mean rain rain said that you should you should have been prefaced beforehand because like this game is it's not a game for fucking nubs like you like it says it's kind of deceptive if you've never played it in the past in that way
01:22:52
Speaker
And he said, yeah, for knobs is a big doll house. And the incentive is to keep coming back every day and seeing how that doll house is growing. What's going on? There's something about the the the feeling, the.
01:23:11
Speaker
I don't want to say anxiety, but like the excitement of getting to the next day and seeing what's for sale. Yeah. So Devin, I think the reason why we're coming so hard on you coming down so hard on you, I shouldn't, I should've added down on you. Yeah. I think the reason why we're coming down so hard on you is this is, this is kind of a thing that animal crossing players get a lot where it is a lot of outside people who will literally like kick the front door and then be like, fuck it.
01:23:38
Speaker
This game's even fun! So when Animal Crossing gets pushed, a lot of people weirdly get super defensive. You guys are really defensive of your shitty island game, I understand. You're pouring gasoline on a buttock skull.
01:23:57
Speaker
and you're expecting it to go as fast as a car. And that's like, I don't think this is your game, Devin. And then you're like, well, I'm going to download it because I feel left out. Yeah. And then for fucking like six hours straight in the middle of the night, I was getting text messages about how much you hate this game. Well, to be fair, those were that's that's more your service than than me texting you a Snapchat email or a voice call. I left you five voicemails.
01:24:25
Speaker
If I may, I'd like to come on Devin too. There's a reason I don't buy these games. And Devin, you are kind of speaking to that because that's not really my style of gameplay. I don't go anywhere near it. I don't get FOMO.
01:24:46
Speaker
over things that I know for a fact I'm not going to enjoy. Chris is in a he's in a child that needs to fucking. I know. Like imagine if he started playing Dark Souls and then every time he had a problem, sent you a text message. Oh, God, I lose my goddamn mind.
01:25:06
Speaker
Imagine if I play Dark Souls and I kept complaining to you that the bosses were too hard. I covered an house with a big sword. The first thing you would say is like, well, maybe this game isn't just isn't for you. Exactly. I'll be like, OK, I get I get a little I get a pithy little like, oh, she's not going to get it. I'm like, what do you mean? It's not like what do I have here? It's really not.
01:25:32
Speaker
But to be fair though, I think for smart people, that's what we were trying to say. So we didn't want to say. We didn't want to tell you that it's a game for people with higher cues. I'm going to raise my hand. I'm raising my hand right now. Okay, raise your hand. No, I'm clicking. I'm clicking. He raised it. Yeah, I'm raised.
01:25:54
Speaker
Here's my thing is also I'm understanding of that. I'm literally just talking about like the opening part of the game. I think some of that was unnecessarily held back that like did not need to be held back. I'll give you the airport probably doesn't need that. I would love to know why because it seems like everything kind of has a reason why I don't give a fuck.
01:26:15
Speaker
Because I feel like you played it and then you put it down for two days and we went on and everything was just handed to you on a fucking plate. I tried to play it. I need you to put your hand in because you put his hand up. Why can't you jump in God of War 4? Why can't you do it? That's so stupid.
01:26:32
Speaker
Oh my god, this is the most ridiculous thing. There's no cops. You gotta run towards a cliff and he auto hops. Hold on, so you're telling me that there's no actual fast travel? I have to go through a fucking door and walk to the next fucking area I want to fast travel to? That doesn't make any sense. I want to get there now. I want to fucking travel there right now. Why can't it just cut? Like, why does Cory Barlog have to have his dicks, his own dicks stuck up his own ass, that he has to keep it a fucking one shot?
01:27:00
Speaker
Fucking cinematic and make me run through the fucking above by frost or whatever. What the fuck dude?

Game Design and Player Expectations

01:27:09
Speaker
That's because that's how that game is designed because of that that's why So when we tell you when we tell you you gotta fucking go to sleep in real life And then maybe next day you might have something cool to do in Animal Crossing then that's probably what we mean Only only like
01:27:29
Speaker
2-bit nubs that have never fucking played Animal Crossing before, complain about this. And I'll just fucking say, you can see it in the Metacritic score.
01:27:38
Speaker
You got, the ball don't lie. 91 for the critics because they, you know, they got actual people that like have played the game before and respected enough to, to, to review it. And then you look at the fucking user scores, like 6.0 because a bunch of fucking little pieces of shit kids like you, Devin, like get on there, respect everything with a gun and you know, and want to fucking, you know, teabag shit all day. And they don't get to do that in the game. So, so it's a bad game.
01:28:04
Speaker
I mean, 5.6 does seem more accurate. Is your airport open now, Devin? Yes. And then nobody was around for me to visit. And I was like, fuck you. We were all goddamn dead. I didn't pick it up today. Can I get people to go online so I could see them online? How do I get people to go online?
01:28:26
Speaker
It's also some other super annoying mechanics that apparently have just been a problem since the game started, which is whatever. But I mean, that's those are just more mechanic space. Again, like one of the great ironies here is like I was I was digging, doing the things I just wanted to do more of them. And I was like, no, go in your own little tiny circle, because that's all you have access to.
01:28:50
Speaker
and fucking play the game and then as soon as I was able to get a pole vault and travel to another island I was like oh this is like this is so much nicer than me just like going in circles and just like oh okay I guess I'm just gonna
01:29:06
Speaker
keep fishing until i get five unique fish like fuck me i guess and again that was annoying now when things are a little bit more opened up it's not as hard it's not as much of an issue which is now it's fine but now i really feel like i can play it at my own pace but it was super disappointing and the fact that apparently if you hated that i'm against humanity that i've caused if you hated that you will hate Shenno so
01:29:34
Speaker
Isn't there a difficulty why can't you set your diss difficulty in Dark Souls I understand when they want it to be more accessible Dream of text
01:29:55
Speaker
Show has to be you and me physically playing it together I'm not a die-hard. I'm like, I'm not really an animal crossing like die-hard, you know, like I wasn't anticipating this game I was excited for it and I really and I really enjoy it now But I don't know I'm not like, you know
01:30:13
Speaker
Seems like you love it more because I had an issue with it. No. I find it hard to have like, I don't know. Well, that's the thing too. And like, I understand people are like, well, that's the game, but that's the thing. I never, I've never played an animal crossing before.
01:30:33
Speaker
so I didn't know like I knew there was like I knew it again to preface or to restate this I knew it's not like sit down for eight hours fucking dig it right I mean I fucking spent five hours in today you can do that like and that's the thing you could have kept
01:30:53
Speaker
Like, that's what I was trying to tell you is like you could have kept farming resources on your island. No, but that's the thing. That's the entire nothing else to follow. The thing is, you also don't have to. I didn't I had you can literally do what you want. You can do what you want. And I'm going to come back the next day. It's in that in that session, right? In that sitting.
01:31:14
Speaker
There was literally I had broken all the rocks because I didn't understand that the rocks don't come back. So I was like, OK, so I had to come back the next day. Right. Right. Right. Again, you're missing the session where I was playing. I understand the session when we get to tomorrow. I was just sitting there and I was like, well, I could just like it was like just keep fishing. And evidently, like without specific baits, I'm only going to get a set amount of fish. And also, I guess, depending on the day of the month and all that, which is not true.
01:31:41
Speaker
Uh, the bait, the bait just auto generates a fish for you. Oh, okay. All the fish are seasonal. Yeah. So you could shake the trees to get sticks, right? No, no. And that's the thing. That was my only option at that point. The Nook miles is for you go into the Nook miles. They, there's lots of suggestions for things to do in there.
01:32:04
Speaker
And it's also kind of like also a mini tutorial. That's how I got my fucking tent and the house and those nook mile things to visit abandoned. I got all that stuff because at some point I just sat there and I was scouring through essentially the daily screen.
01:32:21
Speaker
You know, just the completion screen. I was like, okay, so I did like six of these tasks halfway. So let me just focus on one. But again, I have this little circle to go into and I have nothing else to do but shake trees and build fishing rods. And I was like, this game for buttholes.
01:32:48
Speaker
You from playing and it doesn't like it all but did it all but shut off because you could have actually like if you're Really like wanted to dump your fucking time. You could have actually like prepped for for the next day by just
01:33:03
Speaker
Keeping on fishing and keep generating money a lot easier My next day was fine because I had a bunch of fish I had six critters that I immediately went to the museum with and I just threw right at the dudes face Like I was I was just like dude. I'm going insane like
01:33:23
Speaker
again and this is my only complaint so far are really with that just day one once it opened up and i was able to visit other things like i was like okay yeah this is the actual game that day one is but
01:33:40
Speaker
So it's a matter of crossing is an advent calendar where if you want chocolate and you got to wait and rip all the doors open, then you rip all the doors open.
01:33:54
Speaker
You're not, then you're time traveling and you're a dirty fucking cheater. And you should have done that to you, Devin. I wouldn't be a scumbag in time travel. Uh, once I, I thought there was like an in-game mechanic for that. And that again, I read, I heard about time travel. I was like, I would work the universe to get 30 days worth of small chocolates.
01:34:16
Speaker
My cousin, my cousin said he fast forwarded a couple of years just to see what would happen. Your cousin's dead to me. What happened? What happened? Because you know my cousins, Brandon and JJ have their like super dead. Yeah, they're coursing to these two. Well, JJ has like a fucking Godzilla on his island. He's got a gundam and shit. So the other guy's like, all right, fine. I'm just going to fast travel three years. Fuck it. And then we'll see what happens.
01:34:41
Speaker
I haven't seen what happens, but I'm assuming there's just going to be like weeds everywhere. It's weeds everywhere and no one's ever outside. And then when you try to ask Tom Nook, he tells you that there's a virus going around and it makes the older animals very sick. Blathers is in critical condition right now, guys. Pray for Blathers. He's on a ventilator. He's on the last ventilator from your island.
01:35:10
Speaker
Isabelle is working her ass off. But today, on the politics side... You understand why I had the over-under for you, right?
01:35:20
Speaker
It's because I knew the numbers why says I said seven days over under and when he stops to be fair, he's only put in one day. I think two, two days, two days, two days across six physical days. I was planning on getting a hold of it today, but then Tiger King sucked up super Nintendo emulator the other night.
01:35:41
Speaker
I love how you say that, Devin, but your plan was like in your head, was probably like, I plan on grinding a lot, like walking around and battling and leveling off. It wasn't grinding. It was like final fantasy. I was going to open up my little town. Fucking clean up your weeds. I don't know. Dude, I picked up every guy.
01:36:04
Speaker
Did you meet the ghost, Devin? Did you come across the night ghost that comes? There was a sleeping duck or a rabbit on my beach and I couldn't wake him up. I'm sorry, that is not a rabbit. It's not a rabbit, it's a pelican. How do you wake him up? You just talk to him. You talk to him a bunch until he wakes up and then he tells you to dig for communicator parts to help him fix his cell phone so he can call his boat.
01:36:32
Speaker
Well, yeah, I talked to him twice and I was like, all right, I guess maybe I'm gonna get up like an alarm or something. And then I just fucked off. I do admit I do admit Animal Crossing for somebody who's very friendly for new players. It's not. It's not for noobs, dude. Sorry.
01:36:58
Speaker
It's funny is you want to play bloodborne and there's all of this stuff that nobody tells you about that really helps you beat the game. But you know what?
01:37:12
Speaker
Yeah, that's true. I can kind of figure that out, you know? My buddy who I played Destiny with, he was like, hey, what's it like? He's been putting off getting Mario Odyssey for a while, because I don't know if he just doesn't respect Mario at all. But he was like, yo, what game should I get for me and my daughter to play together? His daughter's four years old. Oh, Bloodborne. And he was like, oh, Animal Crossing. He was like, everybody's talking about Animal Crossing. So maybe I should just get that. And I'm like,
01:37:39
Speaker
I don't know if that's a game for fucking four year olds because it's pretty it's pretty like I would say complicated but like she would literally just be walking around doing nothing you might as well just get Mario or something because the game's just like yeah sure it's like family friendly and like babyish but like
01:38:01
Speaker
I look at Devin, he's basically a four-year-old, intellectually, and he couldn't even get past the first day. So, you expect- No, I literally- Yeah, you can't. You can't. You just gotta sleep. That's the problem. I thought there was a way. You just can't.
01:38:15
Speaker
It. No, that's the thing. It dumbs everything down for fucking children. That's what it does. How dare you. Just take a nap, take a nap, you little baby. I want to be efficient. You know how to sleep. Finding fossils, fucking fishing, chopping trees. Now I'm about to chop every tree down in my fucking in my island. That's good. That's the thing, Devin. You make the town what you want it to be.
01:38:43
Speaker
You're gonna have a graveyard. I'm just gonna- Man makes his own luck. Martin needs to make their own fate, Devin. Come on, we learned that. Okay.
01:38:55
Speaker
Devin, open your open your gates right now. Open your fucking gates. I got to just leave them open and see who comes to come to welcome you. I don't know. I feel like I feel like I'm going to have homes everywhere. That's the thing. Now, at this point, you got to go. Yeah, I would literally like me. I don't even know, man. I would just try to ruin. Well, no, I wouldn't. If you got to mark someone as a best friend in order to do that. Yeah, you have holes everywhere.
01:39:24
Speaker
All right. We should probably move on from screaming at each other about Animal Crossing. Chris, are you going to buy it? Oh, yeah. Why? I can't brave the coronavirus infected target next door to my house.
01:39:40
Speaker
Pick it up. Yeah, literally. Chris would have a better time with it than you did, Devin. I mean, that's the thing. Like I still had a good time. I complaints were really just with that day one nonsense.
01:39:56
Speaker
Let me fucking visit a town. Let me visit an island. You know, back when I was your age, Devin, when New Leaf came out, I bought that game. It came out at midnight. You know what you could do at midnight? Jack shit. We all went to bed. Yeah, we all went to sleep. Yeah, I went to sleep. Oh, I thought you were like jack shit like steel. Oh, well, I mean, yeah, you do do that, too.
01:40:21
Speaker
Shoot balloons out of the air fax machines fall out of them. It's weird Chris every time you beat a boss in Dark Souls 3 you have to take a nap Right now there there's a few bosses that I probably that would have been helpful
01:40:49
Speaker
This just sounds delightful. We need more games that force you to take sleep breaks. Oh, you look, you look, you look nervous. Go take it. You look a little talker. You got a little angry about this ball. You barely did it. You barely got through that. Chris exotic, you know, wait two months, start dating again.
01:41:17
Speaker
Eventually Lily apologizes for being arrogant too late. All right, Jill Valentine trailer. Hell yeah, there's a lot of touching in that in that trailer Oh, hey Chris. What did you think of Carlos? He's sexy, right? Man, I'm not taking the hair
01:41:48
Speaker
Maybe it's because I'm white and I'm and I'm brown and he's brown.

Resident Evil Characters Debate

01:41:55
Speaker
So maybe that's what it is He looks right at Jill's ass
01:42:00
Speaker
You don't like it? I will say that. He looks like he smells bad. I'm sorry.
01:42:08
Speaker
He legit does. He's a dirty old man, dude. Are you kidding me? Dude, Mikai was my go-to in mercenaries mode in OG RE3. He was easy mode, so he started off with all the guns. Carlos is gonna be fucking, he's gonna be god-like to play as, I think.
01:42:25
Speaker
You know what guys I actually did watch Resident Evil apocalypse not why Before game comes out like how are you even excited for this game because I watched all of them
01:42:45
Speaker
They have so many criticisms from the for the game. Oh, my God. Chris gets out of this. He's going to be like fucking MODOK. So the first scene you see Carlos, he sees a woman on a rooftop running from zombies. He's like, we got to save that one woman. And the whole thing is on fire. Demo, right? This is the demo. Yeah, this is the demo. The whole thing is on fire. He's like, we need to save that one woman that's being chased by zombies who has no
01:43:31
Speaker
So he's just looking at it like, oh, I don't know what to do now. That's the first time you see him. There you go. That's the introduction to Carlos. He's a complete moron, like a complete idiot. Oh, for Carlos. And nothing changes in that movie. He looks stupid, too, in the movie, Carlos. He's not sexy in the movie. I don't know. I was not sexy in the movie at all. Well, his original costume in RE3 Remake, boo.
01:43:33
Speaker
just no chance.
01:43:58
Speaker
Wolf. Oh man. So wait, I had heard that. I think I had watched a picture in Slack where he blows up or something in the movie. He likes a cigarette and just explodes. That is, I think that's farther, that's this. No, I'm sorry. Yeah, I'm looking at it. I'm looking at the wiki here. I don't think it's Apocalypse.
01:44:25
Speaker
Now it's extension. But then Chris, not to spoil it, but clones of Carlos show up in retribution. Yes. Oh, thank goodness. And there's a clone named Todd. What? There we go. So you guys should all watch them, because they're... I'm gonna. You know what? They're learning. You should watch that or Tiger King.
01:44:46
Speaker
Oh, well, Tiger King first, because that's more. I was kidding. I was kidding. I was going to watch Tiger King first. So I posted a picture of OG Carlos in the Slack channel. So you could see him. Yeah. You know what? I think at one point I said I liked.
01:45:10
Speaker
Well, so we didn't mention this Steve introduced me to a new term called rim stain So deep
01:45:34
Speaker
that you got a little chocolate goatee going on. Yeah, when you come out looking like Tony Stark. So the thing was is, you know, that's not actually beard hair. That's just Carlos's rim stain that he has for Jill. I thought about jumping off of a building when I when I read that.
01:45:55
Speaker
I mean, you gotta do what you gotta do and the Jill is kind of hot. So I get the red stain. I mean, dude, she probably smells too. What are you talking about? Jill is my number one as far as attractiveness. She is a, she's a babe in this. Yeah. They went, they went real good on this, on this model. Holy shit.
01:46:19
Speaker
Yeah. And you know what? She's just wearing very conservative clothing, but she still looks. I prefer it. I prefer it. I think she looks better with not the sexually objectifying clothing from the original. I mean, she looks capable like the way she carries herself. Yeah, she's a comedy. Yeah, she looks like the last of water. Is that is that what you're trying to say, Chris? Yeah.
01:46:45
Speaker
You know, I do like her outfit, though. Her OG outfit in RE3 graphics, though. I think she rocks. Yeah. I mean, she just works good no matter what. She's definitely more attractive than Claire, which, you know. Yeah. Of course, because I think she's more attractive than Ada, too. She's my number one. Yeah, whoever they chose to be like the facial model, they were just like, get me the hottest girl. All right. Who's hotter, Jill or Leon?
01:47:15
Speaker
Leon who's hotter Leon or Carlos so they have different hotness let's we should save that for You guys think Carlos smells I think he's got like one of those like manly Like a mom lumberjack musks, right? That you know that could be kind of pheromone Whereas Leon Leon smells like Leon smells like Calvin Klein eternity all the time. I
01:47:43
Speaker
And baby powder. And baby powder, yeah. That's what I think. That's how they carry themselves. But we'll see. Does anybody have any talcum? Chris is being... Oh, that was a thunder. Scared the shit out of me. Wait, is it thunder? That picked up on the fucking mic. Is it rain? For real, Chris? That was thunder. Wow. On your end or Chris? That was me. That was me.
01:48:07
Speaker
I mean, I heard it in real life, but that came out of Chris's head. That came out. You know, it's raining. I'm I'm I'm locked away from all windows. So well, hopefully this doesn't die real soon. So I think we should wrap this one up in the next few minutes. Yeah. All right. Basically, I'm a client.
01:48:26
Speaker
He smells like Carlos smells like mosque. Good. You know, the moment I was about to to to beset Carlos in his smell and look, that thunderclap scared me. So maybe God's telling me. He's like, you're wrong, dude. Just wait. Carlos is a handsome man. And you just want to say the thing. It wasn't about his appearance that really stuck with me. It was how it's all interacted with the jail. Yeah.
01:48:54
Speaker
And man, in that trailer, dude, he puts the team on his back. He's like, yo, chill. That is very. You were bro. You were bro to me. So I'm going to be a bro to you. I'm going to put team on my back. That was really cool to see that. There's that one to cool on his back where he tried to hug her and she gave him the no, you cannot. Yeah. Well, that's the thing, right? Is, you know, that's going to change. Well, they weren't they.
01:49:21
Speaker
Do you? Well, I think after she gets bit in three, she starts really pouring it on heavy with Carlos. Yeah, he's like, you know, I'm not doing ultimate willow. Yeah. He's still alive, though, in canon. Yeah, he can't go away. He never ate it. He's just hanging out. His clone, his clone, Todd is married to Alice and a baby.
01:49:45
Speaker
that doesn't count yeah so this podcast was definitely very similar to last week's podcast topics wise but that's just because of hey things have slowed down news wise
01:50:04
Speaker
Uh, no, not every podcast is kill confirm the fanatic. Okay. We always can't knock them out of the park. Okay. Sometimes we have to be quarantined and you know, it's raining real heavy now. Yeah, it is. Ooh, I like it. So yeah, I mean, uh, just some, uh, what, what, what it was kind of Netflix or Castlevania is confirmed for fourth season. Yeah. I gotta watch this tiger King guys. Cause you guys, you know, I'm talking about this.
01:50:32
Speaker
We'll start with Tiger King next week. Next week. We'll talk about this corn. We'll talk majorly about all finished. I mean, we'll start that and probably Resident Evil three. That's true. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I'm already three. Yeah. Is nemesis the Tiger King?
01:50:47
Speaker
No, I would never put. No, he's not right to that. He's. Yeah. Yeah. I'm so excited to see what the Tiger King is. Remember Alexander from. Oh, wow. That's the Tiger King.
01:51:05
Speaker
Okay. I just thought about doc now and I just can't, I just can't even think straight because of that. I think right now at this point of viewing, I think doc is my number one in terms of like least terrible.
01:51:39
Speaker
There's a lot of characters I'm gonna start I'm gonna make a little note right now
01:51:57
Speaker
Let's jump on over to the patreon post show and We got some we got some some patreon stuff this week Yeah, all right. So we'll see ya. We'll see you over there if you are a patreon poet
