Episode 3: Dream Jobs

Good Morning, Gents!
Avatar
49 Plays4 months ago

What job would you choose if you weren't doing your current job?! The guys discuss dream jobs, both realistic and outrageous.

Good Morning, Gents! This is a podcast hosted by four Marine Corps veterans with the goal of uplifting men to be the best version of ourselves. In an age of high rates of suicide and depression, especially in the male population, we are taking a stand. This is a place that will cover all of the challenges and realities that we face in the current world, and how we can break down barriers to betterment for ourselves, our families, and the world.

A tragic suicide of our friend sparked an idea and experiment for us as we rekindled our friendship: A group text where we say "Good Morning" to each other every single day, and continue the conversation about what is going on in our lives, be there for one another, and spread positivity and reassurance. Men bear so much weight of responsibility in society that it is hard for men to have an outlet to express themselves. This has attributed to the vast number of suicides in the male population. We aim to cut those numbers down with this podcast. Between the discussions our hosts will talk about, and the guests we bring onto the show, we invite you to join us on this journey towards self-betterment for all.

Good morning, gents.
00:00:12
Speaker
Good morning, gents. My name is Tyler, and I'm here with my co-host Mac and Caleb. We are missing Slammin' tonight. He is currently away, so we thought we would do a fun little episode here.

What is Your Dream Job?

00:00:26
Speaker
And the topic today is dream jobs. If you could change your job and do whatever the hell you want to do in life, what would that be?
00:00:38
Speaker
I think this is a very fun topic because it kind of fits into the coulda woulda shoulda's of life and you know plays into the whole dream aspect of like things that don't really make sense but I think this is a fun topic because it it kind of shows like what our personalities are behind the curtains and uh You know, I'm really curious is to see what you guys say, because I feel like mine is kind of obvious. But you guys, I i have no idea what you're going to say. So ah let's start

Weather, Sports, and New Year Resolutions

00:01:09
Speaker
with you guys. And let's get a little intro from you. How are you doing today? Mack, let's start with you. I'm good, man. It's cold. It's cloudy. I just want to be on a beach. It's some warm water and some bikinis.
00:01:25
Speaker
and It could get better, but you know, I'm not complaining. Got the dog out on a walk and we enjoyed the day. So I'm good. I'm watching a little college football. We're going to see who wins this game. I'm going Penn State. Caleb, who are you taking? I am going with Marcus Freeman. I am going to pull a Notre Dame, which is weird for me. I'm just a big 10 hater as an SEC fan, but I don't like the big 10.
00:01:55
Speaker
but as far as how I'm doing, I'm doing all right. It's nice and cold. It's been sub 30 for about a week now. So all the lakes in the area have ice, fishable ice, which means I might get out, get the pop-up set up, get the heater going. You can bring your bikini. I'll have it 85 inside the tent. Yes. Some ice drink beer and and, you know, hang out inside the tent in your bikini. I prefer a thong cut. Is that okay?
00:02:25
Speaker
That's fine. I'll just laugh when your butt cheeks get stuck to the ice. ah But no, it's ah going good. I'm just, ah you know, that's a New Year's resolution. Get towards the hobbies. So we'll see if I can't get that done. One of those done in the first week and checking in on those. I'm in the gym. Hell yeah. Me too, man. Hell yeah. It feels good.
00:02:54
Speaker
I, I want everyone to know that this is so raw. We literally spent the last 20 minutes deciding how we were going to do this episode and now we're just going for it. So if you're listening and you're like, where the fuck are they going on this? That's why that's how raw this is at times. yeah Oh, and, and, and I haven't told you guys this, but I started a new habit this week.

Breakfast Habits and Quick Routines

00:03:18
Speaker
What did you do? oh I stopped.
00:03:22
Speaker
giving breakfast and started eating breakfast specifically one slice of toast slathered in guacamole and a fried egg on top and then some dano's low sodium chipotle seasoning over the top of that and it is a sweet deliciousness. That is very delicious. Do you have to get up earlier to get that done? Because it feels like you'd have to get up earlier. Yeah, it seems like a pain in the ass. Yeah. but get new new New house has a gas stove. I can fry an egg in 45 seconds. Yeah, I'm still just like a water and then my coffee and
00:04:00
Speaker
Yeah. I wish my breakfast were more planned, but they're not. I'm just scrounging something or ordering a bagel from out of the store. Toasting the toaster does its own thing while I'm making my coffee. Butter knife spreads guacamole in seconds and then a fried egg, literally 45 seconds. It is perfect. Protein, antioxidants, a little bit of it's whole wheat bread. So, you know, a little bit of my grains in there. It's it's actually, it's fueling the brain. I'm not a coffee. I'm not a breakfast guy. Coffee, yes. Breakfast, no. um never black I'm not. I don't digest quickly. So, like, when I get my morning workouts in, I just do a protein shake and a banana. And then I'm good normally to lunch. Like, I don't like to eat when I'm not hungry.
00:04:54
Speaker
So I just, I'm not hungry in the mornings and it could be because I eat a pint of ice cream at night after dinner, but you know, that's, I don't know. I'm just not. I get hungry in the morning and especially if I'm working at the firehouse, I need to eat to have energy, but I always have to shit in the morning. So yeah so I have to like shit first before I do anything. Your day doesn't get started until the morning shits out. that's people That's- Well, we'll skip my abnormal bowel movements for now. We'll skip that didn't that. Oh, I work. Midnight's Abnormal was the name of the game. No, no. We can do an episode on what I believe is normal and abnormal. oil I don't think we will. Well, that's not the topic today.

Caleb's Dream Jobs

00:05:45
Speaker
Today, the topic is, what would your dream job be if you could change jobs? So, Caleb, let's start with you.
00:05:54
Speaker
All right, I gave these guys a warning, but we're gonna go for it. I've got three on the list. Three specific guys. All right, so the first one is like the childhood dream job. I always wanted to be a veterinarian. Really? I always wanted to be a veterinarian. I did not see that coming. Dude, I grew up watching Animal Planet, Jeff Corwin, like Crocodile Hunter, like My TV, I didn't watch cartoons growing up. My TV stayed on National Geographic, Discovery and Animal Planet. And I just, I veged out on animal shit and I wanted to fix it. Huh. Interesting. Okay. Yep. I'd never like a farm, like a farm vet or like a cat and dog. I think I do. I would think I would like to do like everything. Farm exotics, like, yo, bring me that snake.
00:06:48
Speaker
I'm gonna fucking make sure it gets rid of them pennies.
00:06:53
Speaker
My oldest likes that. ah The Yukon. Yeah, the Yukon. Yeah. Yeah, she's bad ass, dude. My ah my oldest is following suit. She wants to be a vet. So I like it. Really? Dude, that's awesome. I'm gonna make sure she does it that because I didn't.
00:07:15
Speaker
I respect it. I grew up idolizing the crocodile hunter. Hell yeah. Everything with animals. like I fucking love animals, man. The man was Australian, and he was an American national treasure. Dude, when he died, my fucking heart broke. I think I was in like 16 years old. I couldn't believe it. It's like before your first heart breaks. It was legitimately like my first heartbreak. He was like my hero. It's when you knew the world wasn't nice. But you know what? It's nice to know that his kids are like thriving.
00:07:45
Speaker
and they are just like him and his wife like never dated again after that. And she's just like, is like, I love him and only him. Yeah, that's wild. So the the view the viewers can't see this. The listeners can't see this, but I'm going to share this with you guys. That's shit. He has a crocodile hunter shirt. He is holding up a crocodile hunter shirt. And it says legend. It says legend. Now wait, on the front pocket. I can't see it. I can't see it. Talk.
00:08:16
Speaker
It's a stingray with ah a big... Oh, there it is. Oh, no more stingrays. You're going to hate... Dude, somebody somewhere is going to be offended by that. They're beautiful gamers. Anti stingray. I'll join that movement. Hell yeah. What's number two? I'm interested. You threw me for a loop on number one.
00:08:43
Speaker
Number two is a weird caveat. Weird caveat. Like porn star. No, no, no. Professional big game hunter, dude, with a TV series and everything, you know, film and hunts, the forest, et cetera. So we first, we're transitioning from bettering there. So first he talked about helping animals and fixing them, and now you ought to murder them. And dude, have you ever seen it? It's all in the same realm.
00:09:11
Speaker
Honestly, you've ever seen the guy, the show, no beater meat eater. Yeah. immediately Yeah. I've seen it before. Yeah. Where he's like fishing, hunting and cooking. That's yess ideally where it's at. You guys know, I like to cook you. You remember that, but like ideally fishing, hunting, and then preparation of whatever I catch or kill. And to me, that'd just be awesome.
00:09:34
Speaker
i yeah Honestly, that's just as important as being a veterinarian, the conservation part. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. A lot of people take for granted and what it what it means to actually ah be into conservation. You know, if we just let all these animals run willy milly, it'd be he'd be be messed be a messed up world. It'd be like Pennsylvania where there's there's more fatalities by deer accidents than there are drunk drivers. Don't pull me on that. I think even just being able to live off the land and survive just in the wild is like, you know, important to know.
00:10:11
Speaker
gaming there's a there's a certain feeling that comes with hunting your own game yeah and harvesting your own game yeah and providing your family substance yeah vi via the the the projectile leaving your your rifle like like i'll be the first one admit i'm not good at it i depend on my dad and my brother to help me tremendously at field dressing and all that crap, I suck at it. But still, like being able to have the animal in front of you, kill the animal, harvest the animal, package the animal up, and then throughout the year, provide that meat to your family. There's something to be said about that. yep And it's it's like a it's like a primal,
00:11:02
Speaker
Like it's like a primal instinct for being a provider. Like it's, yeah, yeah it's like in the most true, it's, it's in the most true form, right? Like you could, you can make tons of money and you can buy the nice house, the cars and the, and wagyu steaks on the, on the grill. But like to say that you went out, you harvested this animal from beginning to end.
00:11:26
Speaker
and then provided it to your family. Like you provided life to your family. Like you did that, not the supermarket. I'm with you. I think it hits a primal instinct and it's, uh, also knowing how to harvest the animal the correct way to where you can harvest the most amount of meat. And like this year out deer hunting, we walked up on a deer that someone had just thrown to the side of the road and they had field dressed it.
00:11:54
Speaker
but they let it cool too long and spoiled the whole deer. They just threw the damn thing out. And it's like, you just wasted an animal. You were lucky enough to harvest that animal. And then you went home, drank a 12 pack of beer and forgot to go fucking harvest the deer. That's frustrating. Yep, yep. There's nothing worse than a waste like that. No, not at all. I agree. I agree.
00:12:23
Speaker
All right. So what's number three, then? All right. Number three is probably ah it's another weird caveat, but not that i not as weird. ah I um have no guesses. OK. You guys, Marshall. Oh, really, really, really. I can see it. You want to wear the hat? No, you guys want to know where it came from. Raylan Gibbons.
00:12:51
Speaker
No, one I don't like bad guys. And those guys only serve warrants to bad dudes. You want to know what else they do? Walker, Texas Ranger. You want to know what else US Marshals do? They also stay in federal courthouses and protect judges. I'm good with that.
00:13:10
Speaker
the Yeah, yeah. there's I don't know exactly what they do. But that's those are the main things they do. So you could get stuck in a federal courthouse. And I'm good with that, dude. I'm good with that because I saw two of the most glorious bastards I've ever seen. Standing in a Starbucks, full kit, full sleeve tattoos, but fucking US Marshals written across their chests. And since then I wanted to be a US Marshal. Why? Because I could drink my mocha frappe, have tattoos, and be kitted out everywhere I went.
00:13:41
Speaker
and I cannot wear my kit to work right now. But you know what? If I was US Marshal, bro, I could have my gun belts on and my fucking flag on. well or but You want to go be a local cop who gets to be a task force officer for the marshals, because then you you can also you can you can enforce local, state and federal laws. If you're US Marshal, you only get to enforce the federal side.
00:14:09
Speaker
Yeah, see, that's that's more work. He just wants to be kid adult. That's it. I know, he just wants to be a kid. This could be a local company where the outer vest. No, man, they ah lo the local agencies hire again and they send me the... So when I first left Back to Duty, like there's a hiring firm that hires in this area for all the agencies with exclusion of one.
00:14:38
Speaker
Um, I did the test and passed it and I had offers from three. And then I was talked out of it by a family friend who works for her, who was one of, he worked for one of the counties and basically the state underwent a benefits overhaul that just fucked everybody. And he said, it's not worth it with what we're dealing with locally or just as a, as a profession. Yeah.
00:15:04
Speaker
and the the pay and the benefits, especially since the state changed the retirement, it just wasn't worth it. So I went a different route. And some days I regret it because you're right. I do want a kid. I'll tell you what, from working the road, I do miss the road.
00:15:23
Speaker
So that's what I wouldn't want. That's why I would. That's why I want the marshal, not the local. I don't want to drive a car like I want to go to Starbucks and and drink my mocha fraps with my. You just want to look badass. You get to wear. You still wear. It's all about the status for you. Oh, it's jury. It's not chasing job. It's all about the drip, man. at The best. You know, the cools. No, no, no, no. They have if they said or.
00:15:52
Speaker
If they said that you could hire straight into a task force, then I would do that, but I don't want to push your car. I love pushing a car. I don't want to pull somebody over for speeding in a school zone. like to just call my boy You ain't gotta be a trooper, bro. Let the men with the big hats do that. Yeah.
00:16:15
Speaker
the no The best thing about the Marshals is they have the star badge and that thing is fucking sexy. okay Exactly. yeah It's the coolest badge in all of law enforcement. you sick it's it's ah and rock it it's it's un but is it what of the way It's recognizable, so it's unmistakable. and a mistake Undistinguishable. No, indistinguishable. There you go. See, there's many words that mean the same thing.
00:16:41
Speaker
yeah its that Yeah, that's the coolest part about being a Marshall. DEA would be cool too. What? DEA? Nah. Snoozefest. news versionb yeah i think i think I think possibly because they they they do, obviously they do a lot of stuff around the US, but I was listening to a podcast the other day where they were operating out of Afghanistan in the poppy fields. Yeah, I mean, they do a lot in national work too.
00:17:11
Speaker
Yeah. But that's it. realize I didn't realize that. I thought that I thought only that ah that and C agency played internationally. I knew I knew like some of the agencies did like if it if it was state and embassy style stuff. But there are so many three letter agencies in our government i know who does what anymore? Yeah. Well, that's my three, dude. I had a me like it.
00:17:41
Speaker
I am shocked. I- The veterinarian, professional big game fishing cook with a TV series and sponsors. So if any outdoors companies are listening, sponsors, I will shamelessly plug you guys every chance I get and then- Help you if they will smile pay for a big game, huh? U.S. Marshals. I need a moose.
00:18:10
Speaker
it Man, I've been to Canada like 10 times and I never once saw a fucking moose. Yeah, but you're east, too. That's eastern side of Canada. Aren't you close to Maine? No. There are moose there, but the population is not as heavy. You gotta get Western Canada. Listen, man, I only went where I was afforded to go. All those videos you see of moose walking through the divided highway and the median lumbering.
00:18:41
Speaker
Those are all like Alaska and like that that Northwest Canada. Yeah, I know. It is what it is one day. Yeah, I don't know about you guys, but. If if you guys really want to, we could ah do a pack in, pack out, self guided out in Colorado. o My brother and dad and some other people from friends and my brother, they all go out to Wyoming every year in El Cuy. Dude, I just want a big kind of hunt like that. Like that would be sick. We won't talk about it here, but we'll pull we're going to plan something. All right, Mac, your dream jobs.

Mac's Dream Jobs and Gym Culture

00:19:25
Speaker
I think dream job. I don't think I don't have a lot. I always plan on being a trooper. It's the one thing I always planned on, but
00:19:36
Speaker
family life and being a trooper. It didn't, uh, it didn't work when I was getting out of the Marine Corps. So I never followed that. And that that's probably a regret of mine. I have. I, uh, it's the one I always thought I would do. And I never did do it, but I think a dream job. I wasn't worried about anything else. Money really wasn't an issue. I think I'd have to follow my passion and own a gym.
00:20:06
Speaker
I just, I enjoy it. I mean, you guys know me. That's my passion right there. Physically pushing myself and anything fitness is where I'm at. I like the culture. I like that you can create certain types of cultures at different types of gyms. ah I like the huge personality differences in gyms. Um you get everything from soccer moms to muscle mommies to book nerds who are lifting with dudes that don't do anything else but take testosterone and lift weights. I mean you just get such a range of variety of people. It's fun to go in and talk to talk to these people make these social connections and I think if
00:20:55
Speaker
And I enjoyed enough that I think I can make a career out of being there and making those connections. And, um, I've never had an issue with getting along with people at gyms. Um, I've always, I just enjoy, I enjoy helping people that are just getting started. I enjoy talking to the seasoned vets that have different, different looks and ideas about how you should do things. And I think, uh,
00:21:22
Speaker
wouldn't properly run and properly taken care of. I think for the most part, people who ah go to gyms look forward to going to the gym. That could be the best part of their day. And so, giving some, giving people the opportunity to come to what your passion is and then share in your passion. And I think that would energize me.
00:21:48
Speaker
to get up and be like, oh man, I go to the gym at fucking 5 a.m anyways, might as well be getting paid for it. So I don't know if we even talked about it. I mean, Caleb and I had those conversations. lot was say for and we used We used to lift and talk about what it would look like. Yeah. What it would be. the it's ah It's a very attainable goal. Like if you want to open up a gym, like you're absolutely right. But I have three kids now. So what?
00:22:18
Speaker
So what do you know how fucking expensive insurance and shit is? And I've got colleges I'm going to have to get that, but I've got three other souls that I have to budget for. So, and it's not like, Oh man, I can only keep like four grand. Like I got to have enough of a bank account fat enough that something happens or whatever that I don't don't get a paycheck.
00:22:46
Speaker
for X amount of months, I got to be able to support them. So. Listen, just you just make them some mac and cheese every day. They're well fed. Man, you know, I'm not letting my kids live on mac and cheese. You know, that ain too funny it's an attainable goal, but it's not a, it's an attainable goal. That's not the right move, especially right now.
00:23:12
Speaker
now i think i think that's the i think that's the key right now might be the ah key i don't think that it's not the right move i can definitely see you executing it and executing it well i just do but with my current job i can retire fairly young um before all of you by 15 years what age can you retire it me 51 i can retire at 48 Oh, nice. we I have to be at least 50, but I can retire at 41 or 51. So, I mean, at 51, I don't plan on being an old man. Like, I don't see that as an old man. I see that as still being an athletic human. And it's one of those things, it's like, maybe that's the next chapter. My kids will be, at that age, my kids will be out of the house and I'll be able to take more risk and do things that I'm not responsible for three other souls at the same time.
00:24:06
Speaker
What kind of gym would you have? And I'm going to give you i'm gonna give you three options here. Give me three options. What do we got here? Global gym. Do I get to wear the stand next? Yes. Modern, high tech, offer, our you know, smoothies, et cetera.
00:24:26
Speaker
Not necessarily an average Joe's, but like a, a clinic fitness vibe, like everybody's welcome. I'm just going to go ahead. know we're yeah that's no notion No, no,
00:24:55
Speaker
weight. The minimum of weight, that's been just 315 and the the squat rack. If you ain't low six, I can already tell you that's the answer. That's 15 years ago, 10 years ago, whatever. that's ah building that's that's very specific Man, i I used to 10 years ago to pick the dirtiest gym you come up with man. I've been like,
00:25:16
Speaker
I want the all the sweaty dudes. I want all the strength. i want I want dumbbells that are curved because dudes are fucking dying underneath them and throwing them to the sides. I want duct tape on all the benches. That would have been 10 years ago. i am now i've ive visit I have visited a couple gyms and used a couple gyms that are like a good hybrid mix between that and like a global gym. You still got like your cardio areas. Cause you know, I'm a big cardio guy. I love to run. So you still got your cardio areas. You got the different machines. Cardio now is more than just running on the treadmill. You got different types of treadmills. You got different types of same masters. You got different machines, but you also got the opportunity. They got 142 pound dumbbells. They've got all the free weights you need. They've got all the squat racks you need and
00:26:14
Speaker
The equipment is nice. The bars are clean. The benches are well taken care of. The dumbbells aren't fucked up and you don't have to worry about them coming apart when you're lifting them above your head. um So I would have to say like a good hybrid mix between one and two.
00:26:34
Speaker
um Yeah, I don't, I don't, I'm not into the old school, like I'll still go to those and I'll still work out on them. It doesn't bother me. Like I, I know those are intimidating to a lot of people. I still have the confidence in them. I still believe in my capabilities enough that I can go in there and hold my own. Um, cause those places are pretty, uh, I don't want to say predatory, but, um,
00:27:05
Speaker
that that's in territory for some, there's guys in there that treat that that that's their territory. And I, ah I have enough confidence in my abilities, I can go into those and visit those and hold my own. um But I don't want that kind of gym. I don't need people being like, this is my gym, get a drop your fucking beef at the door, we're all in there to work out. um Stop trying to impress the muscle mommies, try to stop trying to impress the dudes, like just get in there and pump weight, like you impress people.
00:27:34
Speaker
by actually putting work in, not because your Nikes match your Nike shorts and your Nike tank top and you've taken steroids for the last 15 years. No one gives a shit. But if you get in there and you're fit and you're you're sweating and you're working, that's people are watching you more than they're watching ding dong over there. So I think I won a gym where you can get a little bit of both worlds in there is what I would go for.
00:28:06
Speaker
Okay. I like that answer. Cause I'm currently going to planet fitness, unfortunately. Cause it's like convenient for me. That's fine. Jim's are Jim. Listen, I'm not going to knock people who regularly go to planet fitness, but you know, when I see the the stupid signs on the wall and like that little fucking alert thing that they have, like if somebody just happens to like make a grunt sound or like yeah drop their weights on the ground, like a fucking alert goes off and it's like.
00:28:36
Speaker
buff dude needs to leave. Like, go fuck yourself. Yeah, that you can man. Can't fit shame people. The dumbbells only go up to 75 pounds. Like, so give me a break. I hate that fit shaming shit. like Yeah, man. yeah it Because. OK, so you guys know I grew up a fat kid, so confidence as a young kid was not there. Then you go, you grow up whatever.
00:29:04
Speaker
And as an adult, now I'm on the other end of the spectrum. I'm in my mid thirties. I'm in great shape. I take very good care of myself. And that again is not the norm. Well, now I'm on the opposite side of not the norm. So like I have struggled with confidence and the one thing that I should be the most confident in is because I'm not the norm anymore. People are age or older.
00:29:30
Speaker
are not on averagely as fit as I am. like Every once in a while, I run into people that are, but it's just not the norm. And so I deal with the same things I dealt with as a as a kid, just the ah other side. Like, oh, man, you're you're you're too fit. Who are you showing off for? Nobody. i'd do it cause i like it like you know like it's just me I do it I do it it for me. I don't do it for other people. So I hate when people like, ah it's on my nerves now. like I don't like when people make fun of fat people.
00:30:00
Speaker
Um, who are trying if it, I mean, ah if you're not trying, we'll, we can dive into that another day, but if you're trying, bless you, like trump i've I've got your back a hundred percent. I just like, I, if you are trying and trying and trying, keep trying. But if, on the other end, like if somebody's fit and you've got to make fun of them, the fuck for like, that just annoys me.
00:30:28
Speaker
like it does it gets on my nerves that's that's my soapbox it's jealousy they just want your pecs bro but it shouldn't even be that because like like i want like i want to tell people i'm like the amount of time that i i have to like i go to the gym and i don't feel good i ah got i gotta get up at four thirty the difference though mac i i think i know the difference so you are a very fit person but you don't shame people for not being as fit as you or as like motivated as you you can be motivating to people without being a fucking stuck up prick like i i think of people like
00:31:18
Speaker
Like I look at videos of David Goggins and I'm like, that guy's a fucking machine. But then he's like, you're just a fat piece of shit and you're lazy. Like just, you know, ah there some people likes not that's not motivating me. Like you're just making me feel like I'm terrible. like Like you're just like the terminator.
00:31:37
Speaker
And sometimes life fucking happens. And you know, his life, his life happened too. But something happened to him where it clicked in him. And that's how he gets over it. Yeah. Okay, man. But you don't need to be telling everybody they're a piece of shit. Exactly. And yeah, I agree with some of the shit he says, like, if you're not trying, okay, like, it can't be shaming people if you're not trying. Yeah, if you're out there trying,
00:32:04
Speaker
I, and that's what like, I know people who are like, Oh, I don't know. Like they've struggled with getting started. And I'm just like, you just got to go in. I've never met. Okay. I've met douchebags in the gym. We've all met douchebag, but the cool people, the legitimate people in the gym are in the gym to make fun of you.
00:32:23
Speaker
you know like if you're in there trying like if you need a spot dude i don't give a fuck if it's a 10 pound dumbbell or you got 405 pounds on the bench press if you need a spot you need a spot if it's if you're a female it's the first time in the gym and all you have are guys around just ask like i know the muscle mommies are in there and they take all the eyes and that might seem like competition but just fucking ask most of the guys there will be happy to help like or the females or whoever like i just i don't know i don't and maybe i'm because when i do i don't have to work out in public gyms all the time so maybe i'm just on the outside and maybe it's because i am fit and i've kind of that's like my happy place but
00:33:15
Speaker
Like I don't, I don't know. It's, it's a place I would like to have as my own, that I could share my passion for it with others, that people felt comfortable enough. And if you were a douchebag, you know me, I'm not scared of arguing with people. So, Hey, you're being a douchebag. Come back tomorrow. Like when you're headed to changes, come back tomorrow.
00:33:43
Speaker
Like you don't need to treat people like that, especially people who are trying to get in shape. yeah They just need help. If they need help, help them. I need that kind of like public setting like that, where it's just a bunch of random people because I hate working out in like my own private space. I'll do it if I have to. And like sometimes I use the firehouse gym, but yeah I like having like people around me, like it's motivating to me. So there's, there's a couple of guys, one guy keeps coming back at work.
00:34:13
Speaker
And we work out together a few days a week, but when we first started working out, um, he had had a bad accident a few years ago. So he's kind of, he's been rebuilding into fitness and he is slowly getting into it. So he came into the gym one day while I was working out. It ended up just working out with me that day. It was like, ah I'll be back Monday. It was a Friday. So I'll be back Monday.
00:34:38
Speaker
So he shows up Monday. I said, all right, man, here's my rule. And I've given this rule to, I think, Gunny Cantu who laughed at it because that man wasn't going to stop either. ah And I think I've given this rule to a handful of other people throughout the years that have asked to work out. I've never told it somebody they couldn't work out with me. But what I tell them is it's my workout. This is my time. I do this for me. I will not wait on you.
00:35:09
Speaker
I will not tell you what to do. I will not call you if you are not here. when i I will let you know when I'm coming. If you're not here, you're not here. And I will not make your workouts up for you. I'm gonna do what I'm gonna do. if you need help If you want to do what I'm doing, please, I will help you. If you have questions on different variations of things to do that you saw, I'll be happy to help you the best I can.
00:35:35
Speaker
And if you need spot, if you need what, okay, but I'm not there to motivate you. I'm there to keep myself motivated. But if you are, if you want somebody to work out with at the same time, come in, we'll work out together. And that's just, and I'm, I'm true to that word. Like if you don't show up, I don't call you. Like you gotta find your own motivation to be there. So, but if you're there and you're like, Hey, I've never done this movement before.
00:36:05
Speaker
Am I doing it right? And I'm like, I've never done it before. Let's Google it. So, you know, like, I don't know. That's just, a it's a passion of mine. I think it's something that I could grow one day. I like it, dude. I think you will one day.
00:36:24
Speaker
I get that one, like workout at home. That's my current status, right? Like we've got a gym downstairs, like a good little gym. And, uh, but like I, I close the door, I turn on music and it just doesn't feel like, like I don't get in the gym mindset. I don't know. Like there's not other noise. goes people or your home It's kind of like a TV in your bedroom, having other people around pushes me harder. Yep. Cause I don't push myself hard enough if other people aren't around and it's not really like about impressing them. It's just about like.
00:37:02
Speaker
it's It's a motivating factor to like to have a commitment. It's our biggest fear. Embarrassment plays into that factor. it is I think it's a not looking weak thing for me. like i can I can close the door in my little gym and that set was hard, so I skipped out on the last rep. You know what I mean? like yeah oh yeah yeah i ah So my personality, I'm not one of those people that can work from home. I can't and I don't think there's a TV in my room that hasn't been on in six months. um I'm learning to separate parts of my life so it's easier when I am somewhere but I have learned like I had a garage gym when I was married. We had a gym in our house in the last city we lived in and so
00:37:54
Speaker
there were times where I could work out at home. I just, the they the the gym was in the garage or is in a sub-basement. I was able to separate enough to go in there, but as soon as we had the opportunity to get back to a gym, we would do that. i I'm lucky enough where I work now has a gym and I'm careful to, but because there's something about being able to go to that gym at work that still separates it from home to the point that I can get in that mindset. But yeah, at home gyms are other, in my opinion, and with you guys, I agree, they're hard to get motivated to do those extra reps, to go that extra time. If you're running on the treadmill to run that extra mile at that pace,
00:38:48
Speaker
Um, I don't know. I think, I think the, the fear of being embarrassed pushes us and I mean, we all go to the gym to get better. So a little bit of push never hurt. Yeah. I just like to, I don't know. Having other people around holds me accountable. Like I, I'm not going to skip a ah set or a rep. Like I'm going to fucking go all out, you know?
00:39:16
Speaker
Yeah, that's it. And hell, dude, when I see people in there that are like, when I see somebody in the gym, and six months, and every few months, like you look at them, and you're like, that dude's making progress, or she's making progress, or whoever, like, they've been getting in here every day, and they've lost whatever, like, hell yeah, all right. All right, I can't be a bitch, like, let's get to work.
00:39:44
Speaker
Even not, even just not even seeing their progress, even just seeing them like, yeah multiple times you know, repeatedly you're like, all right, like we're holding each other accountable. We're both, we both know to look for each other. We're both fucking here. And let's get it when you're single and there's a muscle mommy that's close by, you're like, give me the heavyweight.
00:40:04
Speaker
I mean, even if you're not, it's a motivating factor just to have that comfortable size on you. You know, it makes it feel good. Today I'm going for five reps at the heavy dumbbells. yeah Yeah. All right. Well, that's a pretty good change of career, Mac, if I would say so myself. Yeah, one day. Tyler. What do we got a little foot?

Tyler's Dream Jobs

00:40:30
Speaker
All right. So you guys know me well enough.
00:40:34
Speaker
I think you would own a taco truck. Bro, I was going to say pot farm. Not even close. Come on.
00:40:45
Speaker
So we all know my my main job is not, I mean, it it pays the bills and i I enjoy it, but it's not my dream. My dream is filmmaking, um is what I'm working towards in my life. And you know that will always be the number one thing for me that just you know defines me and as is my everything. it's It's what drives me and keeps me alive.
00:41:12
Speaker
but You know, I think it'd be interesting to talk about things other than that too. um If I could choose another job. I have a question, man. All right, go ahead. Would you be like a Quentin Tarantino or a, who's the guy that did Transformers? Michael Bay. Yeah. Are you like a Michael Bay or a Quentin Tarantino? Like ah those are all like, I guess it's Spielberg, but I like Michael Bay and Tarantino.
00:41:42
Speaker
If you want to use those two options, I would say way more of a Tarantino because I don't really care for like flashy effects, which is more of what Michael Bay is about. I care more about character and story and dialogue, ah which Tarantino is definitely more of. Dude, Inglourious Pastors is still one of my favorite movies. Great film.
00:42:05
Speaker
his His favorite that he's done for me is Django Unchained. It's just fucking excellent. It is. But my favorite, if I could give my three favorite filmmakers, Spielberg, Lucas, and Stanley Kubrick. What's Kubrick do? Kubrick did, a Full Metal Jacket, The Shining, Eyes Wide Shut. Yeah.
00:42:31
Speaker
bunch of, bunch of shit. But okay he's more of like a technological filmmaker, like very cinematography minded. His, his shots that he did were just fucking beautiful. Like the filmmaking itself is just magnificent. yeah That's awesome. Spielberg is like my my number one because he's so dynamic. He's made a You know, you think from 70s on to now and he's just been able to bridge this gap in time and like like get hit after hit after hit. And no matter what changes we see in like technology and, you know, just the times, like he's able to adapt with it and just write good stories and make good movies. And he he's just incredible. is you know fuck Has he really been doing it for that long?
00:43:25
Speaker
Yeah, well Jaws came out in 75 and that was like the first ever blockbuster. Damn. Yeah. That's awesome. Two years before Star Wars. Wow. Yeah. That's awesome. I didn't realize he was going that long. There's a really nice documentary about him on ah HBO if you have it. I definitely would check it out. It's fucking awesome. I don't have it. I don't because I haven't even got to watch the penguin yet. Oh, you got to watch the penguin. The penguin is excellent, dude.
00:43:55
Speaker
uh i've heard heard i just can't do another streaming yeah i get you so what what all aspects of like filmmaking are you wanting to pursue all of it so i mean there's a lot to go into it but for me my dream has always been writing and directing um I love writing my own stories and then being able to film them. There's a lot of people who just write their own stories and then sell them. That's not me. like i want like If I'm investing this much time into a project, like I want to be the one who creates it. Do you write it with a vision of what it looks like in your head? so I always write films that I want to see myself. like I write things that like I think,
00:44:42
Speaker
oh like This is an interesting idea. or like We've never seen this before. This would be really interesting to see on screen. It's like, let me write about this. And I write it and I get heavily invested in it. It's like you know this script that I'm writing now, I've been writing literally since 2020. It's a long fucking time. And you invest so much time into it. It's like a ah your child almost. It's a fucking project that you've been putting so much time and effort in.
00:45:10
Speaker
And it's like, I can't imagine these people who just write this stuff and then don't get to make it themselves. Like I i want to make this thing myself. And then when like, ah you know, I've been in this spot before where like you invest so much time and then you finally make it. And then when you actually see it as a completed thing, like tears.
00:45:31
Speaker
would just fall down my face because I was so proud and happy and like satisfied at the end result to know that like it this started as like a little idea in my head and then developed into this whole thing, raised the money, made the production, edited the film, got it out there and then I get to see a tangible item in front of me and I get to see it on a screen.
00:45:57
Speaker
And I say this all came from one little idea. you know it's It's fucking awesome. That is pretty damn cool. Yeah. And it's not even like it's it's so much more widespread, like an artist can feel that that way with like painting on a canvas. But when you're talking filmmaking, you're reaching millions, thousands, et cetera. So like your baby touches the world. That's pretty cool. Yeah. and i think You know, there's, there's so many different types of film and people who just try to make these like cheap little flicks that like, they don't think of the scope. Really. i I want to touch the world, you know, I want to have an impact on people. Like whether that's like a, some kind of social cause, or if it's just a good fucking story, like I want to.
00:46:52
Speaker
change how people think and like just, you know, make them feel something. Like really I feel, you know, I know that I'm an artist and I want my art to invoke something out of people. Like I want to reach, I want to touch the world with it. So that's what I'm working towards. But if I could, if I could do another job that is like completely different than that,
00:47:19
Speaker
um I wanna be an archeologist like Indiana Jones, man. That's fucking cool. it's It's not really something you could do these days. I mean, you could be an archeologist, but it's just like, you know, boring, like sit behind a desk, do some research, maybe go out on like an excavation. But like, I'm talking like those like 1930s, like crazy adventures, like going out into the jungle and like looking for all the water. It was grave robbing, basically.
00:47:50
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, basically. It's it was pretty illegal shit. But, you know, no, dude, I and adore those movies, man. Just go find it. Yeah. And then make a live action at Lane's film. Well, you know, just like it you know, I was just listening to a podcast on history because history, I i'm just obsessed with history stuff.
00:48:14
Speaker
But I was just listening to a podcast about pirates and and ah the pirate captain hook or cook, sorry, apparently um hid his treasure along the coast of Long Island. OK, so I'm like, you know, um I live in New York, like I could go out and I could go look for this treasure.
00:48:39
Speaker
I love pirates. I think pirates are cool. Pirates are cool shit, man. You guys know that's why I got a pirate or a pirate ship in my tattoo, right? I thought it has to do with Louisiana or North Carolina. It's North Carolina because Blackbeard ah treasures yeah along the Carolina coast. Have they ever found it? No, no. So so the the bottom for the listeners, the bottom of my forearm, part of my sleeve,
00:49:09
Speaker
Windmill is where Tara and I first kissed and then it goes Buffalo for Nebraska Gator for Louisiana and a pirate ship ah Silhouetted by the moonlight for North Carolina. So those are the three places I hold while the three states I hold near deer and then The windmills are the first kiss. That's wild, dude Yeah, and I listened to a podcast literally today about blackbeard. That's wild ah Yeah
00:49:40
Speaker
Well, yeah, like imagine imagine I was the one to find that fucking treasure. And then you made a movie about it. Yeah, man. That's that's just James Cameron. dived into ta Exactly.
00:49:54
Speaker
Can I start it? Sure. I just I just want to. I mean, there wouldn't even be acting. It would be like a documentary. I could just wear like some swim trunks and dive off. Yeah. the know Like I mean, I'm in I'll get a pirate tattoo.
00:50:10
Speaker
For the listeners, for the listeners, Mack has been shamelessly soliciting himself upon Tyler to be in the next movie or short film or whatever. Here's the thing, though. Here's the thing. I think I'd be great at it. Here's the thing. He's one of many. I'm talking like at least 50 people who are somehow involved in my life who are shamelessly plugging themselves trying to star, if not just be an extra, in my fucking feature film. like let's be not I'm not just gonna take some Joe Schmo, very respectfully, who has no acting experience and make them the star of my movie. but I will throw you in the background.
00:50:57
Speaker
I'll ask. I will happily put you in the background. You could easily be an extra dude, but I'm not going to have you star as like the main actor. Like that's ridiculous. That would be, that's like one of my, that would be like a fear in mind. That would be an everyday living hell. Like waking up and having no privacy. Could you imagine like walking to your car and people are trying to take photos of you and you have to go do like this one show after another show after another show, being in the public eye. Yeah. Like, dude, fuck that.
00:51:27
Speaker
I don't need that for my life. What's up? One line. That's all I need. Like, I could serve coffee. I get one line. I got you. I need to speak, though. I got you. I need to say something. I got you. I can't just be a pretty face. Mack, it's a shame you can't be the lead because there's a sex scene, you know? Oh, yeah. Oh, my lord. Oh, it better be short.
00:51:56
Speaker
and
00:51:58
Speaker
don't make this long winded with all these extravagant moves like No, it's it cuts it It cuts it before the nitty-gritty. It's mainly just like the lead-up to the sex I'll have to die it right at least for the week ahead. I gotta look good for the camera No ice cream that week. It is not a porn It's a remake of bro, but prospect mountain and Mac is not telling me Hey man, remember you remember how you wanted to be a star of the movie? Here we go.
00:52:32
Speaker
ah
00:52:36
Speaker
man Dude, it's funny it's funny when we were in the Marines and like I told everybody that like you know when I get out, I was pursuing film.
00:52:48
Speaker
And everybody, from the fucking gunnies, to the master sars, to the lance corporals, women, everybody was like making porn jokes.
00:53:04
Speaker
Yeah. thank Oh, you're just going to get out and do porn, huh? Like everyone. And I'm like, no, like, I'm just going to actually make real movies. And like, I don't think you're going to burn any porn. Dude, let's let's let's let's let's hold right here for a minute. I'm going to touch on a

Reflection and Closing

00:53:20
Speaker
subject real fast. And it's going to be a it's going to be a subject that I think we should tee up for a later episode. But it's toxic. It's it's toxic leadership in the military because ah that's a good one.
00:53:31
Speaker
When I EAS, I had a, I had a Sergeant major that looked me dead in the eyes and told me I wasn't going to be shipped. I think I know who you're talking about. And bro, it's the dude we met in the gym. I'm not, I'm not going to name, I'm not going to name drop him here, but he was new to the command and he straight up told me I wasn't going to be shipped.
00:53:57
Speaker
And like, I'm not going to flex where I'm at, but I promise you I'm OK. Yeah. I know you're talking about. Fucking shamelessly drop his name, bro.
00:54:11
Speaker
Out him. I'm like, out I much more enjoyed the Sergeant Major before him. I enjoyed both Sergeant Majors before him. I'll name drop them. I'm friends with one of them on Facebook. Hell, yeah. you were both They were both good dudes. Yeah, they were. They were really good dudes. I think toxic leadership or just bad leadership in general would be a great topic to deal with. Like I'm not great because I have a fucking mouth.
00:54:43
Speaker
All right. lay let's let's not Yeah, we're not going to dive on that. That one now. Mac, put it in the notebook. Talk about it now. No books.
00:54:58
Speaker
I think this was, I think this was great. Um, on i little conversation. on then It's not even short. It's an hour long. I i hope people, uh, enjoyed hearing about this kind of stuff. It's, it's out there. The best part is our initial idea. This was to call it a quickie and make it less than 30 minutes. But we all knew we'd go longer than that and go down some fucking rabbit hole. Got to give the people what they want.
00:55:26
Speaker
Man, I just hope there's people that want it. Oh, they want it. There it is. There it is. Oh. So if you're listening, let us know if you enjoyed this. Let us know what your dream jobs are that you're not currently doing in life. And we'll catch you on the next one. so Reviews, topics, and pointers. That's all we're asking of you guys. Yeah. Leave some reviews. There's. Share it. Share it. Share it. All right, guys. Later, dudes. Later.
00:56:01
Speaker
Good morning, Jess!
