Tech Troubles and Storm Warnings

00:00:22
Speaker
And the tech issues never end. um i I consider us very lucky that we only got three minutes into our last session before it decided to shit the bed. um So here we go again. yeah And I'm just starting to feel like it's my computer and not anything else because my Wi-Fi signal is very strong and it says I'm connected.
00:00:48
Speaker
Right. Yeah. I don't know. So like, oh, who knows? But regardless, ah we're back and once again, can't see each other because that does make it easier when you don't have to be streaming video. It makes it doesn't chew up the bandwidth as much.
00:01:09
Speaker
So that tends to help. Fingers crossed.

Storm Preparations and Panic Buying

00:01:13
Speaker
But before we got kicked out of our last session, we were talking about the impending storm that is apparently the storm of the century.
00:01:21
Speaker
And or or potentially seeming like it could be ah and will be in full force by the time that this episode comes out. So good luck to everyone ah who might be listening in the midst of the storm. And ah good luck to everybody afterward digging themselves out.
00:01:43
Speaker
Yep. Before I got cut off by our last session deciding to die, ah I was telling Christina, ah Jim had made the comment that today and yesterday at work at Walmart have been busier than the week of Thanksgiving was.
00:02:08
Speaker
and it's because everybody's you know panic not panic buying the way that like i think of you know covid where everybody was like i need all 100 cases of toilet paper yeah yeah like not that kind of shit but like you know the usual pre-storm i need milk and eggs and bar and bread yeah like it's fair Yeah, um I get it. I mean, i kind of did that last night after like when I was picking him up.
00:02:37
Speaker
um I went in and actually like grabbed stuff. I grabbed like the cans of like ravioli that can be eaten cold um and four giant cans of ah baked beans. but like maple bacon be baked beans so good um and then like a big box of uh like a family-sized box of uh chocolate chip granola bars and um four gallons of water and just in case like if this is like we're not we're on town water here
00:03:16
Speaker
So like, i mean, I don't like to drink unfiltered water, but like we could probably drink water out of the tap and to be fine. Yeah. um So like, it's fine. But I also, I grew up on well water where when we lost electricity, we lost our water as well. And so like, we literally always had like, my parents would save their like gallon jugs of like Like the orange juice gallon jugs, the Tropicana white gallon jugs, and the um gallon jugs of milk. They would save all of those, wash them out, and then fill them up with water and store them in the attic.
00:03:54
Speaker
Okay. Because we needed them any time the power went out. ah We needed them to be able to like fill up the backs of the toilets after flushing. And we needed them for like you know anything to do with water brushing our teeth even drinking water you know etc etc yeah uh so makes sense it's just a thing in the back of my mind where it's just like i know that we'll still technically be connected to water if we lose power but i like to have it anyway just in case

Y2K Memories and IT Heroes

00:04:28
Speaker
so yeah yeah i get it dude i know you know what's really funny i was thinking about this recently
00:04:36
Speaker
back in 1999 when everyone was worried about the y2k thing and people thought that like what just said yo like oh my god that was a real thing yeah um well yeah because we thought that all the computers were just gonna like crash out because they didn't know how to turn over to the next digit being zero zero So we thought that like all of our essential things were just going to stop functioning because everything was run by computers. You what I mean? Like the water. It's think that like that's the, that was already how it was in 1999 because like my family didn't even have like a personal like home computer 99. Yeah.
00:05:22
Speaker
like I was just so outside my like sphere of existence. Right. But it's just true. Like everything was run by computers by that point. yeah Anyway, continue. So, yeah. So, like, it like on New Year's Eve, there was a big thing about, like, fill up everything in your house with water. Like, all of your sinks and your tub and, like, just plug them up and it just like collect us as much water as you can just speak just to be safe, you know? So I, like, filled up all my shit and i left and I went out somewhere and, like, came home and everything was empty because it just fucking didn't...
00:06:02
Speaker
just Oh my god. The drains just drain. Like they don't, the plugs things don't plug up well. So just like everything was empty. I was like, motherfucker, I just wasted a bunch of water. my Yeah, it was crazy.
00:06:18
Speaker
it was so dumb but like yeah then we you know midnight hit and everything was fine and we were like oh okay good and the funny thing is i have heard about like that phenomenon and everybody being so freaked out and then everybody you know afterward being like why were we freaked out nothing happened and i've also heard like we didn't know it the thing is The thing is, like, apparently something like things would have stopped functioning, apparently. But like people worked around the clock, like tech, like IT people worked around the clock. People came out of retirement to like work in like the big tech companies to like fix coding or whatever make sure that things went smoothly at the turn of the millennium. Mm hmm. Okay.
00:07:10
Speaker
Yeah. So apparently, it's like, yeah, nothing happened because people like saved our asses. Yeah. Yeah. And i probably you know probably did hear about that at the time, but I just don't remember now. like yeah I remember hearing about it. Right. I remember hearing about it in the context of like ah COVID, actually, because like you know people...
00:07:36
Speaker
we're either complaining or being like, nothing's going to happen. Like, you know, ah like COVID's not going to be as bad as we think it is. And then like, I remember reading a thing that was like, yeah, okay. So it's not going to be as bad as we think it is. If we flatten the curve, you know um if we actually do everything we're supposed to like mask and social distance and wash all of our hands all the time. And like, you know actually do everything we possibly can to prevent the spread, like then nothing major will happen and everyone's going to be like, ah, it was all for nothing. Everybody was so dramatic for nothing. It's like, no like because we did what we were supposed to we prevented a crisis. And it like it was it compared to the Y2K thing about like tech people working around the clock to bring whatever, the coding up to date. to be able to turn over at the turn of the one millennium without any problems. And so I found that really interesting. That makes a lot of sense. Like, yeah, we don't know what's going on in the background of things. right Like when there's a bunch of professionals that are hard at work to like prevent major catastrophes or anything like that. And nobody really even knows. And it's right. It's got to be such a fucking thankless job to begin with. But like for real, nobody even knows it's happening to like be like, you know, appreciative. but
00:09:05
Speaker
Right. Yeah. Yeah. And, like, no like we we have to understand that, like, just because the worst possible outcome didn't happen doesn't mean that it was never going to happen. Yeah.
00:09:18
Speaker
You know? Anyway. Yeah.

Snowstorm Challenges and Solutions

00:09:23
Speaker
All this in the face of the crazy storm that's supposed to hit. God, we're, like, I mean...
00:09:30
Speaker
I think I said it before in the beginning recording that's like now gone, lost in the wind. um But ah you and I are not even going to have the worst of the storm.
00:09:44
Speaker
Right. Like it's going to be so much worse down south. And like I worry for our friends that are down south.
00:09:55
Speaker
Yeah, and I reached out have a lot of them yeah i reached out to my Branson family today as well. I texted them and I was like, I'm going to be worrying about you guys so I would appreciate updates if if you're able to.
00:10:09
Speaker
Okay, good. I'm glad. I hope that they do update you. um Because that is, that's a tough spot too for them to be in. Like, I think, I don't think they're going to get hit with like the worst of it.
00:10:26
Speaker
but Actually, I'm not even sure. But like, it they're they're in such a strangely remote area. You know? Yeah. like Well, I mean, it's right in the middle of the country and that's like where the worst worst part is supposedly going to be hitting now.
00:10:43
Speaker
right through the middle section yeah yeah so people i suppose i was looking mostly at like texas and i guess they're just they're oh they're way more north of texas yeah i know yeah they're like just south of basically you know like illinois so right right um yeah yeah it's crazy so uh we're just can't imagine trying to navigate all the hills with all the snow and ice o true yeah that makes me want to like throw up yeah oh my god it was scary enough when we didn't have snow and ice and we were driving just like on the regular roads yeah yeah there's a couple curvy turns and it was like in hilly curvy turns like that were a little bit of wrecking but it was yeah for me it was kind of fun
00:11:33
Speaker
because i like I'm glad you were having fun because I was just like holding on for dear life. I'm used to driving on flat, you know, straight roads. And like, yeah there's one neighborhood I pick up a kid in that that is us slightly hilly and curvy. And um it's it's really scary in the wintertime because they do they don't come through and plow or salt. yeah So it's very slippery and then you get stuck trying to get up like a slight incline in the neighborhood and you're like sliding backwards it's like oh god no not fun that's a nightmare yeah oh god yeah i hate it not a fan i'm really glad that like they are really good about treating the roads out here um like
00:12:27
Speaker
Although they've been it feels like they've been slacking a little bit this year but like they being like the state and the towns yeah but like hopefully they're getting their shit together for the storm.
00:12:40
Speaker
oh We got the electric shovel though. what's What's that? It's an electric shovel. I don't even know how to describe it. um but it's a ah It's a tool. It's ah it's ah an appliance that i Jim's parents have.
00:12:57
Speaker
And they also have a snowblower. And so they use the snowblower. And so I asked if we could use the electric shovel this winter.
00:13:09
Speaker
I don't even know how that would work. I'm so confused. it It's, uh, it looks like a, I don't even know how to describe it, but it operates effectively the same as a snowblower, but much smaller with like a single like shovel, like handle. hu And you plug it in. It's got like a super long cord. Yeah.
00:13:32
Speaker
Um, and so it just like rotates and it like shoots the snow out to the side or to really to the front. So like, you know, you want to aim wherever you want the snow to go. um but like it shoots the snow way far out like projectiles so that, you know, it clears the area that you're trying to clear. um and you really just have to like walk and like push it. Hmm.
00:14:02
Speaker
Um, and you don't seemingly, as far as I've seen, I've not yet actually used it myself, but like, you don't have to like put in a ton of effort into like, you know, pushing the snow or shoveling it. Like it just sort of, I don't know. I'll, um,
00:14:22
Speaker
I took photos of Jim using it the last time we got a major storm, which was in like 2022. And they're like on iPhone. They're like live photos. So they're like kind of like a video if you like press and hold down. But that wouldn't work on your phone, not being an iPhone. So I'll screen record the live photos that I have. Okay.
00:14:44
Speaker
And so you'll kind of be able to see ok how it ah how it works. But yeah, it's ah convenient as hell. So we're going to be using that ah when the time comes to clear out the space.
00:15:00
Speaker
ah But yeah, in the meantime, it's just like, it's not, the snow's not even supposed to start for like 36 more hours. And I'm just like, already like buzzing with anticipation yeah oh so i just wanted to be over it's not not really supposed to be that bad here like the models that i've seen now are it could be like you know six to eight at the high end inches um But the cold is going to real bad. It's like one degree or minus one degree or something right now.
00:15:34
Speaker
Oof. um Yuck. Yeah. Yeah. So it's yeah it's chilly in this room here too because like this is John's office and like it's cluttered and like the one fucking heat vent is covered with shit so oh no it's cold here and like um yeah I made a joke i with with our last failed recording of a few minutes back but I was like I would feel like I'm in hell except it's too cold accurate yeah accurate it yeah
00:16:12
Speaker
Yeah. Right now, our feels like is negative two. Oh, I don't know what our feels like 16 degrees, but our feels like is negative two, which is pretty bad. um and it's going to drop even further. It's going to get down to a hoof before sunrise tomorrow. It's going to get down to one degree, but the feels like is going to be negative nine. Hmm.
00:16:35
Speaker
so Okay, so it is zero right now, and our feels like is negative 10. And it is a Friday, so I will say they did decide to close school today because um the predictions were the wind chill was going to be up to or as bad as negative 25. Which I guess negative 15 is the threshold for closing school. So they were like, yeah, we're going to close. And they told us that like probably by around 3.30 or so yesterday. they wow Well, I'm glad they made that decision. Mm-hmm.
00:17:12
Speaker
But woof.
00:17:15
Speaker
yeah yeah yeah Yeah. Yeah. It's looking like ah Sunday around noon is when it'll start snowing here and it should continue.
00:17:31
Speaker
seemingly through most of monday but like it looks like the end time keeps getting pulled back and back and back so maybe it'll end earlier than expected we'll see i guess we'll find out already though they my office has already determined that we should all work from home on monday so that is the plan like i my thing is showing me sunday around 8 is when our snow is going to start and that is also the first time we will be back into double digit temperatures so as our as our snow is coming down
00:18:08
Speaker
ah it's also going to start getting warmer but that's you know warm is a relative term because it looks like it's only going to go up 17 degrees on sunday yeah which after negative 10 feels like right now yeah that's like practically balmy so yeah yeah fun shit indeed and jim also said that uh he had the thought of um wrapping the front of my car with with his tarp um
00:18:44
Speaker
so that uh i don't have to like try to clear off all the snow off the windshield oh yeah that's a really that's a really good idea i definitely do that yeah so i was like hell yeah i'm i'm down with that all you gotta do is yank the tarp off hopefully the snow will flying in an operable direction i would say don't yank it just like peel it back Or peel it forward, really, rather. ah And let the snow slide off down the front.
00:19:16
Speaker
Yeah. And then it'll be fine. I was like, why not wrap the whole car? And he was like, I think my tarp's only like 8x10 or whatever. he was just like, oh. Something like that. yeah I'm used to like giant tarps, so ah I guess I didn't realize that they came in smaller sizes. But...
00:19:38
Speaker
yeah basically when he suggested i was like holy shit you're a genius good call there's a thing that they sold um one of my prior like ta's that worked with me on my bus gave me as a christmas gift one time um it fits like the size of your windshield essentially And it has like elastic band things on it that you just like hook on your side view mirrors.
00:20:06
Speaker
I feel like I've seen those before. Yeah. And like, you just pick up one side of it and, you know, pull it off somehow and, you know, shake it off. So the snow doesn't, you know, obviously get trapped inside. Yeah. and Then you kind of like roll it up.
00:20:23
Speaker
Nice. Yeah. So I have one of those somewhere. you I don't know where. it's probably in my shed, like disintegrating by now. But oh, no.
00:20:33
Speaker
Yeah. Sure would be handy. Yeah. it would be but I don't want to trek into the backyard and try to go into my shed now so fair but I do probably I probably could just like grab one of our really large black garbage bags that would fit over my windshield and just put it on there that would work too I suppose although you know what do you have that would hold it in place don't know duct tape I don't know something yeah
00:21:05
Speaker
Anyway, we actually do have a topic today.

Political Thoughts and Policy Changes

00:21:10
Speaker
I love that we always get stuck talking about the weather. Yeah. Oh, my God. But it is relevant, so it's fair. It's fair.
00:21:20
Speaker
um But, yeah, us Northerners, we love to talk about our snowstorms. But we do have a topic today, it's even like... is's not even like
00:21:32
Speaker
it's not It's not an original topic and it's not even like a super straightforward like our topic is... insert one or two words here. it is um it it comes from a thing that I saw on TikTok because, of course, um but the concept was somebody on TikTok who i actually hang tight for a second because I'm going to look up the person who he referenced.
00:22:04
Speaker
Allison? So, okay. I don't have any other information except for on TikTok, this person who was referred to is It's Alice.
00:22:18
Speaker
it I don't know. It's supposed to be's supposed to be Allison, I'm sure. But It's A-L-L-I-S-X-N.
00:22:28
Speaker
She has been interviewing conservatives and basically being like, if you had the rubber stamp of yes for 15 years and you got to just, you know, put in place all the policies that you wanted and like everything that like moved your agenda forward, like what would you do? What's your plan? And like the determination, the result that she's been getting has been that conservatives have no plan. They don't believe in anything except for like,
00:23:06
Speaker
maintaining status quo or you know furthering bigotry ah which like ultimately they don't even have like a step-by-step plan for how they can you know intend to like enforce that or whatever yeah i mean like what about you know making sure nobody ever has the right to have an abortion ever again or some other dumb thing like nobody even says that apparently right which is crazy because it's just like that's like ah their favorite talking point um but like It just seems to like they just, you know, get like froze, you know, when they are presented with that scenario. Like, you know, they can't even just go wild and start, you know, listing crazy shit like what Hitler did. You know, like it seems like they are just like they just go blank.
00:24:01
Speaker
There's nothing actually going on behind their like conservative talking points that they have. And so the person ah the person referencing its Alice XN, whatever, ah on TikTok, his username is golfergearbear.
00:24:24
Speaker
ah But he went on to explain like his plan if he were given the rubber stamp of yes and 15 implement everything that he wanted anything that he thought would make the country a better place it was quite inspiring it was really inspiring you when i sent it to you and told you to listen listen to him or watch it or whatever your very first thing that you said was can we elect him now which i was like sure but also like
00:25:01
Speaker
oh i just i wish it was that easy because like i would vote for him but like god damn he'd be way too far left for almost every everyone else yeah in the country yeah um even though everything that would have done everyone good Right. That's the most frustrating part.
00:25:23
Speaker
But I did point out to you that i wanted when I wanted to talk about this, I wanted to also make sure that we are aware, like, we don't have to make any concessions here. We don't have to try to make anything more palatable for bipartisanship. ah and And most important part in As we talk about this today, because this is what we want to talk about, our job is not to try to figure out the perfect way to execute any of what we're about to suggest.
00:25:58
Speaker
Right. It's just our wildest ideas and that's it. Yeah. And the crazy thing is a lot of it's not even going to be that wild, in my opinion. I think a lot of it is stuff that we have all been calling for for a long time.
00:26:12
Speaker
Stuff that really should be passed, like, real fast. But the system is broken.
00:26:25
Speaker
Either the system is broken or it's in it's operating exactly as intended. Right. Yeah. Which means that it needs to be broken. um Yeah. Anyway, ah the first couple things that I had suggested to you, which we're going to probably use and then bounce off of, is the whole, like, oh my god, gun reform.
00:26:48
Speaker
Yeah. Which like actually really can't get into the nitty gritty of like what kind of gun reform. I don't know goddamn shit about guns. Right.
00:26:58
Speaker
I abide. I like the Second Amendment. I think we should keep the Second Amendment. But I also think that there needs to be so many precautions and safety measures and like more serious processes in place for acquiring guns. Yeah. Yeah.
00:27:14
Speaker
um see if it if it was me i would have just been like ban all guns you know completely and like make sure you get all of them taken away from everybody and nobody ever has a chance to make one or build one or print one and that's a bigger that's a bigger more existential like Yeah, but we just talked about we don't have to have a way to do it, a plan. No, I know. I know, but you have to like, get rid of them you know, rewind 500 years of history of guns never even being invented to begin with. So that's the harder part, I think. Yeah.
00:27:54
Speaker
But I agree. i'm i'm I wish that guns didn't exist. They're terrifying. like yeah it's It's terrifying. um i do like i I believe in the Second Amendment because it's particularly with everything going on with ICE right now, like I support people's right to protect their home and property and they their themselves, themselves, their families. Yeah.
00:28:20
Speaker
I absolutely support that. And that's like the biggest thing, particularly because we're getting militarized on as a you know country, as citizens of a country. And that's the whole reason the Second Amendment exists is so that the country can protect itself from the military.
00:28:38
Speaker
Like the citizens can protect themselves from the military. so Like, that's that's what ICE is, is like a fucking, you know, militia. yeah Like a neo-Nazi militia. So ultimately, that's why I say that.
00:28:56
Speaker
Otherwise, I do agree with you. I wish guns didn't exist because fuck them.
00:29:01
Speaker
But yeah, ah moving beyond that, ah gerrymandering was another big one. ah Term limits was a big one. um I don't really, again, I'm not the expert, so I'm not going to say how many term limits or how many limits there what the fuck how many terms should be limited to um like three maybe for like congress i don't know i don't fucking know yeah term limits do exist for president i'm not sure why they don't exist for fucking congress but also like maximum age limit yeah once you hit a certain age you gotta vote them out
00:29:40
Speaker
That actually I do have I did have thoughts specifically 60 years old for me really is what I think the maximum age should be and I think it should apply to you cannot run for a congress seat if you will turn 60 at any point during the term that you're running for like even if it's the last week of the term hu like frankly that's my opinion.
00:30:08
Speaker
Well, you know, I'm 50, right? know, but I'm not saying that you should be a congresswoman. Yeah, but you think that, like, in 10 years, I would be incapable of performing a function like that if I wasn't? It's not a matter of incapable. It's a matter of what's effect, like, what kinds of decisions are people of that generation making, you know, or or are responsible for making.
00:30:33
Speaker
That are not going to impact them in 20 years when they're dead or whatever. You know? That's more the point. Also, the fact that the retirement age is like, what, 59 and a half?
00:30:45
Speaker
I don't think so. I think it's 65 or something. it's It's much older than that. There's something about something is inaccessible until 59 and a half. Yeah, that's like your um certain retirement accounts that you can't. Oh, well, whatever. Point being, like, that's like at this point, it's just sort of like, you know what, let's just force, you know, grandpa into retirement. Yeah. Like, like that's that's the one thing that baffles me about these Congress people that will not fucking stop, you know, yeah is like, don't you want to just live your life?
00:31:23
Speaker
Don't you want to retire? do you want to relax? Holy shit. Aren't you tired? Yeah, they're career politicians and they make their money doing hardly nothing. So they're happy where they are. i'm like No, they can fuck off with that shit. No, that's the thing. That is the thing.
00:31:41
Speaker
It's taxpayer money that pays for their living. And therefore, as a taxpayer, i would like to formally say I'm not paying for people to fucking live off my taxes like that. Like, I don't I will pay for welfare.
00:31:57
Speaker
like you wouldn't believe i will absolutely i will pay for welfare where single moms can take care of their families or even just like randos on the street who even if they're addicts even if they have all these moral problems if they're living on welfare i don't care feed them i want it i want them to have the food stamps like i want that i will not pay for these absolute dinosaurs to die in office I'm fucking serious.
00:32:28
Speaker
I refuse. 60 years old is the cutoff. All righty.
00:32:34
Speaker
ah Anyway. but like, really, like, we need more young people in office.
00:32:45
Speaker
We really fucking do. Yeah. yeah
00:32:52
Speaker
we need it we need it okay and that let me i will say that should apply to the president as well let me just tell you uh yeah okay what i knew that 65 wasn't right but i i just couldn't remember for sure ah okay in the u.s the full retirement age for social security is 67 for anyone born or later While those born earlier have an FRA or full retirement age that gradually increased from age 66 to 67, you can claim reduced benefits as early as 62, but delaying past your ah retirement age increases your monthly payment with the highest benefit at age 70. Okay.
00:33:35
Speaker
Anyway, that's for social security purposes. So you you can. but That's for boomers. you can get social security at 62, but it is a reduced amount because they're going to be paying you out for a longer time.
00:33:48
Speaker
Right. So, yeah. yeah But that's the thing. 67 is technically. thing too old. And that's the thing is that it's not being fucking funded properly. So like social security is not going to fucking exist by the time I'm like 45. Right. Yeah.
00:34:04
Speaker
Or sooner. yeah Yeah. It's not going exist by the time i can get it, which is 62. So. It's just, it's fucking crazy. Well, according to my good friend who works there, she says it will exist, but it will be drastically reduced. Like you won't have the amount you normally would have gotten. You would have. Right. It's like, it will certainly not be enough to live off of. Oh my God. Nope. It will not be.
00:34:34
Speaker
um yeah but anyway ah sort of jumping off of that uh so tax the billionaires so that's yeah so let's uh let's just say that's my first my first thing is fully fund social security and there are a number of ways to go about doing that that people have come up with ideas for that will work and nobody wants to actually look at them and do something about it so right we'll fully fund social security we'll figure out social security ah and um because though here's the thing though too with going jumping back to like the age thing with the like the age limit for congress and stuff and you know politicians in general having a cutoff at 60 doesn't mean they have to stop working at all
00:35:25
Speaker
You know? Yeah. So it's like, sure, if they want to keep working and not actually officially retire until 70, they're more than welcome to do so. But they don't get to make our policy decisions for the country. Right. Right. Anymore. So like that's that's really like the ultimate thing. It's just like, you know, that they they have to fucking stop inserting themselves into shit that's not going to affect them.
00:35:49
Speaker
Right. 20 years down the road. Yeah. Anyway, so yeah, fully fund social security, ah tax the billionaires, fully fund, like everything that the guy in the video said, you know, education, transportation, housing, food, clothing, like everybody's basic necessities should be able to be taken care of. Right. And healthcare, care all that, like it should not be tied to people's ability to stay employed. Right.
00:36:17
Speaker
Right. You know, um because like, God, it just feels so volatile. Yeah. It's so fucking volatile. I hate it. It's the worst. um But yeah, like all of that, like all of those social programs need to be in place, you know, obviously like to be able to.
00:36:35
Speaker
a fund like updated infrastructure ah across like the whole country like you know even i know that like there's differences between like federal and state level stuff but like the you know the infrastructure where like the interstate system was implemented or like designed and funded in like the days of Eisenhower And like none of those have been like properly maintained and updated, which is crazy because Eisenhower's so long gone. Like, holy shit. Yeah. What the fuck?
00:37:13
Speaker
Oh, my God. so stuff like that. Infrastructure really needs to take priority. Yeah. as well and like that goes for also like power grids and um i think one of the comments on this tiktok mentioned like making internet access like freely available yeah um everywhere like that i felt was also extremely important that's the other thing internet access yes absolutely like
00:37:44
Speaker
Stop forcing people to pay for it. But also, stop forcing people to pay for water, homie. oh my god. Yeah.
00:37:55
Speaker
Like water bills. That's insane. Well, we have to pay for water. It's insane. you know, but they have these big, huge buildings that clean our water for us. They have to be. Right. And they should be government funded. They'll come out in our taxes from the billionaires that'll get taxed. Like, that's what I mean. that We shouldn't have to pay the town a bill.
00:38:21
Speaker
Yeah. It's insane. Oh my God. Same with sewage and garbage removal. Frankly, we should, we deserve clean and sanitary housing.
00:38:33
Speaker
Yeah. So like it just, it took for people to have to pay for sewage bills and garbage removal bills is also equally crazy to me.
00:38:43
Speaker
um Yeah. And, oh, God, I had another thing that I was thinking of, and I can't remember what it was. Oh, I kept also saying tax the billionaires, but I also, in my head, I was saying it, and I should have said it out loud, tax the fucking churches. Mm-hmm.
00:39:01
Speaker
Oh my God. Yeah. Tax the Mormon church. You know what? Tax there can even be exceptions to that. hundred billion dollars. churches are actually. Equity. Like, you know, doing a lot of good to help people, then don't tax them. But.
00:39:17
Speaker
Frankly, no. Frankly, no. Why not? Because they should be doing good anyway. Yeah. But I'm saying like, if they're taking in your tithing and they're putting it back out to help the beautiest of the people.
00:39:31
Speaker
then they shouldn't necessarily be taxed because that would take away from what they're doing to help the people. you know what I mean? So like, if you, if you can prove that they're actually doing something good with the money they're bringing in, then they should. I feel like that's all. That's just like a lighter variation on what already exists, which like already is a broken system.
00:39:51
Speaker
in my opinion. So I'd rather like go all the way straight to let's tax the churches and fuck their profits literally and financially. Okay.
00:40:08
Speaker
You know, profit versus profit. Yeah. i know what you meant. I'm fucking stupid. Sorry. No, you're not All right. Um,
00:40:19
Speaker
Yeah, tax the churches because like that's completely like it just it's it's just it's insane. yeah It's insane.
00:40:32
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. o Alright, what else? Every what else we about community needs a community garden that people can and help like work in when they can but walk into and take what they need. all Yeah.
00:40:50
Speaker
Yeah. Absolutely. love community gardens. I think they're incredible.
00:40:59
Speaker
And also kind of in a similar vein, but also it kind of also ties into the infrastructure conversation.

Urban Planning and Community Resources

00:41:08
Speaker
Plant fruit trees in public spaces. Yeah, dude.
00:41:12
Speaker
They this this is the reason that our society is so bogged down with allergies is because they only plant male trees. Yeah. You knew about that, huh? i don't remember if we talked about that before or not. But i yeah, they're just blowing their cum through the wind, making everybody sick. Yep.
00:41:30
Speaker
And it's all because they don't want people to have free fruit. Yeah. They don't want the homeless to be able to reach up and grab an apple. God, that sickens me. It's so... It's fucking... There's so much wrong with our fucking society, dude. Yep.
00:41:46
Speaker
I'm so messed up right now. What I heard one of that... um Like, I heard that the... like female trees make too much mess but like the male trees are the ones making the mess aren't they well the male trees are the ones making all the pollen they're the claim here's the thing they'll say oh they make too much of a mess because the female trees bear fruit and the fruit falls off the tree what it really actually is is we don't want people to have free food h that takes profit away from big grocery i don't know
00:42:25
Speaker
i don't know. It's but like ultimately that's what it is. It's like fruit on the ground is a non-issue to me. Right.
00:42:36
Speaker
I'd rather deal with that than what we currently deal with. yeah and then but also like you know it can be for the animals if yeah if we're just you know if we're just gonna like start planting fruiting fruit trees everywhere then right a committee that can go around and pick the fruit and like give it to where it's needed yeah yeah pick it and distribute it if If you want, if you're so concerned about a mess. Yeah.
00:43:07
Speaker
God. Yeah. But also, like, not all trees are fruit trees. We just need, like, a better, like, assortment of, like, non-cum trees.
00:43:21
Speaker
Oh, my God. oh That just reminds me this song. I already know what you're going to You know one? already know.
00:43:34
Speaker
Everything smells like cum trees. No, that's not the one I thought. Okay.
00:43:43
Speaker
I thought it was going to something about put a little cum under the pillow for the cum man. Whatever that one was.
00:43:53
Speaker
Put little cum under your pillow for the cum man. Oh my god. Wasn't that how it goes?
00:44:03
Speaker
Yeah. Oh, my God.
00:44:08
Speaker
Oh, no. Oh, my God. it's um so what I'm referring to. you I'm so sorry. I'm still recovering from the flu. Oh, do you dude. I know.
00:44:21
Speaker
i know it's It's really, it's just asthma, you know? um That's all. Anyway, what I'm referring to is a song that's like a comedy song that was written and published on TikTok by this absolute genius named Tom McGovern.
00:44:40
Speaker
um And he's the one, he's the one behind the song, What the Fuck Is Happening Here? ah Which Jim and I sing to each other all the time.
00:44:51
Speaker
right But he wrote a song that is basically an ode to the Bradford pear tree.
00:45:01
Speaker
Okay. Which I don't think it actually grows pears on it, so I don't know why it's called the Bradford pear. But that's the tree that blossoms in the spring with all those tiny white flowers. And it's those flowers smell like either fish or cum.
00:45:16
Speaker
Ew. Yeah. And so he wrote this song. How did I not know that? swear to God. Oh, my God. I'm have to find it I'm going have to find it. No, I mean, how did I not know about these trees? but I don't understand. I'm so sorry.
00:45:35
Speaker
Maybe they don't exist in Michigan. I don't know. But there a lot of other places. oh There was i there was one in Utah when i was
00:45:47
Speaker
that had to walk by on my way to campus in my sophomore year when I lived off campus. um And I didn't know what it was at the time, but I just remember that it smelled so awful. It smelled like rotting fish.
00:46:00
Speaker
Gross. And it was like these tiny little white blossoms. And i had to walk by it. And I was just like, why does this tree exist? This is the worst. This is awful. Oh, gross, dude. Oh, my God.
00:46:13
Speaker
But yeah, it's like, ah he just wrote this little ditty. It's just like, everything smells like cum trees. grace you
00:46:26
Speaker
And it's not even the pollen. It's just the ones that smell like cum. So, you know, yeah. So fun. to see it. Anyway, yeah. anyway um yeah feed the homeless with fruit bearing trees oh god what else what else i know there was something else i wrote let's see i might have to go back to our conversation yesterday with my little stupid ideas that i had your very good ideas i'm sure are not stupid at all
00:47:02
Speaker
Let's see. Financial and investment education every year of high school. Yes. True. Yes. Every year. Yeah. Financial literacy education ah in high school as well as like for free outside of high school.
00:47:20
Speaker
Yeah. Too, I think. Like it's the kind of thing that like. But it's like you can't force people to go to that, but you can force. No, you can't, but you can make it available. To take that class on.
00:47:31
Speaker
True. Yeah. Yeah. But for the people who are older than high school age now, like, yeah, it's like, you know, obviously there's a difference between like forcing people to learn stuff and letting, you know, providing them the resources to learn if they're willing and able. um But like, I think that um more people would take advantage than you might realize. Yeah.
00:47:59
Speaker
Maybe. you know if but I think that like it would have to if it would it would have to come with a very good campaign of making sure everybody knows that it's available.
00:48:13
Speaker
Yeah. Because that's like the biggest issue, is not realizing. or like not you know I'm sure there's actually so much... ah out there already that's like free resources that are available that like we don't even know about right now one of those things actually this is like I don't have perfect examples but like it's it's it made me think of it um there are so much more available to to like check out at a public library than just like books and dvds hmm
00:48:52
Speaker
Like, I've heard that you can, like, check out a sewing machine sometimes. Or, like... Like a like a saw or something. I don't know. Like a chainsaw. I don't know.
00:49:05
Speaker
Okay.
00:49:08
Speaker
It's just like. But I had no idea. that the public libraries. Could provide anything. Besides books. And DVDs and stuff. You know.
00:49:19
Speaker
yeah But it was out there. And it's just like oh my god. Why don't people know about this kind of shit. I didn't. Exactly. Exactly. So it's just like, you know, those these kinds of services need to be made available, like education services and, you know, resource providing services such as like, holy shit, the library, you know, has sewing machines you can just borrow.
00:49:44
Speaker
But it needs to come with like marketing campaigns, making sure everybody's aware. hmm. of what's available to them in the community whether it is regarding the library or not you know so oh my goodness
00:50:05
Speaker
yeah and also let's let's fund our libraries better oh my god yes honestly like god let's let's have like a renaissance of libraries being revamped and made more beautiful and filled with so many books and like let's have it be the most prestigious oh my god yes thank you ah like let's reevaluate banned books as a concept in general
00:50:37
Speaker
And let's make it prestigious.

Educator Status and Libertarian Mishaps

00:50:39
Speaker
Oh, the thing that one of the things that the guy on TikTok said that I agreed with wholeheartedly and I want to also push in here is making education and like being an educator, like a prestigious career path again.
00:50:55
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. Like even in just public schools, like not just like college professor types stuff. Like let's do that with like education, but also like education.
00:51:06
Speaker
librarians why did i say it like that librarians life berian librarians
00:51:19
Speaker
libertarians libertarians jesus christ let's get rid of libertarians that's my other rubber stamp no more libertarians you don't get to exist anymore sorry oh my god ah did you hear about um The time that libertarians took over a town in New Hampshire and it got overrun by bears.
00:51:41
Speaker
No. No, I did not. What the fuck? It's a real thing that happened. Okay, tell me about this. I don't have all the details, but it is very easy to Google the New Hampshire town that got overrun by bears because of libertarians.
00:51:59
Speaker
And it's because libertarians don't want social programs. wow like they don't want they they want like small government in the worst way and so like they don't want to like fund anything and so they just like this place got overrun with libertarians the local government got overrun by libertarians and like they just did away with like waste disposal my god and so everybody's trash started piling up and that's the reason the town got overrun by bears oh my god but
00:52:29
Speaker
it's like this is why libertarianism is fucking stupid and it shouldn't exist why would you ever want all of your trash piling up anywhere to begin with that is so dumb think about it like that they think about it like individuals individualists men and a minute i don't know it's fucking weird insane But yeah, you should you should Google that and get all the juicy details because it's it's an entertaining read for sure. I feel bad for that town, but like, goddamn. If there was ever a social experiment that needed to happen to see if libertarianism is worth anything, that that was it. And I'm glad we got it. Now nobody can...
00:53:17
Speaker
nobody takes them seriously and they shouldn't so for sure yeah um yeah anyway uh awesome i know i know god i felt so bad though because there were so many people that were like locals who like just sort of watched this happen and were just like what is happening to our town like what the fuck is happening like i feel like at some point they must have contacted the governor and been just like ah can you do something about this you know wow because at that point they're like being held hostage by these like idiot like 20 something dudes because that's all they are that's all libertarians ever are like like idiot 20 something dudes yeah like college dropouts or sometimes maybe graduates who think they know everything oh my god
00:54:13
Speaker
oh my god
00:54:19
Speaker
anyway is there anything else i don't think i have anything else right now i don't know had all my good ideas yesterday today is not a day today is not the day for me oh man well think we hit the important parts and my asthma is acting up. So maybe we should, maybe we should call it a day. Call it a day.

Closing Advice and Hopeful Sign-off

00:54:51
Speaker
