Catch-Up and Weather Talk

00:00:21
Speaker
and we are back in did anybody miss me everybody missed devastatingly doubtful you have been missed i've missed you goddamn yeah i'm not nearly as entertaining as jim well you've been so busy the last couple weeks it's like i felt like even like obviously like the these times we record are like an opportunity for us to like chat and catch up but like i felt like we haven't even really gotten to catch up like yeah general right for a couple weeks now yeah so how the hell are you I'm all right. Just glad for this beautiful weather we've been having the last three days. It's been 70 and sunny.
00:01:15
Speaker
like my kiddo had his first baseball practice today. oh yeah. And so I'm sitting outside in the nice warm sun, but the breeze was starting to get a little it cooler and cooler throughout the evening. And I was not prepared for it. I mean, i had jeans on, but like a t-shirt and no like no jacket or whatever. So ah started getting chillier and chillier. And finally it was like, okay, this is, this practice is going way later than it's supposed to anyways. So I just started packing up my crap. i Like the chair that I brought to sit in, you know, like, yeah, it has to be taken apart and put into the carry bag thing. And Did that and just went to the car. And boy, was I happy that I did not put my windows down because when I got in my car, it was hot. And I was yes, because it was retaining the heat, even though the sun was like getting lower. Yeah, I've been having the same problem, but the opposite reaction where whenever I've needed to be in the office, it's like it's perfect outside.
00:02:16
Speaker
And it's been sunny. But like that means that the inside of my car and whenever I am leaving the office is toasty as hell. Yeah. And I hate it because I have to like wear like a sweater to like i have to wear a sweater in the mornings especially.

Music, Memories, and Weather

00:02:38
Speaker
but I do also like generally have to wear a sweater in the office because they finally switched it from heat to cooling um but like also i don't even always wear a sweater in the office because i sometimes switch to like this weird little like shawley thing that's like light and breezy because i also overheat too easily but it's like i literally i do that and then i have to like put my sweater back on to leave the office and go down to the car and then as soon as i get to the car i have to take the sweater off because it's so goddamn hot in the car yeah yeah
00:03:15
Speaker
and I don't have air conditioning in my car yeah poopy but I am not complaining about the weather because this is what I've been waiting for for so long and holy shit am I like fully taking advantage of it yeah I mean I have to like ride with the windows down anyway because it's too warm but like ooh to ride with the windows down and to blast some music fuck yeah dude fun yep i know like there was there was this one year where i remember like my friend was about to give birth to her youngest child and i went to the hospital or i was going to the hospital to like see her And I put on like, I think it was Fatboy Slim, a CD by Fatboy Slim or Moby or a both. I had at the same time. I was listening to both of those at that time. That's a vibe. And put down like my windows and had that shit blasting. And it was awesome. And that the weather was beautiful. It was, I think his, I think his birthday was in March.
00:04:32
Speaker
But so it was like a really nice sunny day. it it was at least 60 something, you know, and it just felt so good. and it was like, yeah, i still I still have memories of that like specific day driving to the hospital. Yeah, I literally like just two years ago, I remember like one day that I was driving home from work and this was I mean, I've been into Queen Herbie for several years now, but like I was on a real Queen Herbie kick in like June. Well, most of the year of 2024 because I saw her in concert at the beginning of 2024. Right. at Atlanta with Sierra. Yeah. um and so it was just like and Queen Herbie is like just such good, like positive energy. Yeah. And like I was

Nature, Festivals, and Spirituality

00:05:27
Speaker
driving home. it was around June-ish, maybe like, you know early to mid-summer time before it was like obscenely sweltering, swelteringly hot. and
00:05:39
Speaker
um had my windows all the way down and I was just blasting this good vibration music. And I felt great. Amazing. It was wonderful. yeah And yeah, it's like that was...
00:05:55
Speaker
I was going to say that was no different than any other day that I have to drive home except for it was because it was a day that I remember because I just felt so good. Yeah. Yeah.
00:06:07
Speaker
So yeah, this weather is welcome. Extremely, extremely so. I've been so glad about it. But yeah, and it's only going to get better. Yeah.
00:06:21
Speaker
ah we don't even have like full green on the trees yet. Like there are a lot of early sprouting leaves, but they're not like full leaves yet. They're still just like little bunches.
00:06:36
Speaker
Yeah. um And I'm just like, God damn. Cause we're coming up on Beltane and I'm like, Oh my God, are we going to hit Beltane without full leaves on the trees? Because,
00:06:49
Speaker
That fucking sucks. a human Well, I mean, it's the 23rd. We got a week. Well, I mean, had a butter the what are the trees like where you are? About the same.
00:07:00
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. It's just so late. I feel like it's just so I guess I've really not adapted to. like massachusetts with springtime mean you're still used to virginia where you grew up yeah because it's like by now i mean like cherry blossom season in dc is like late march mid-day march that's true oh my god yeah so that's like come and gone and like it's full but full greenery right now down there like
00:07:35
Speaker
already and so i'm just like ah yeah crazy like you know the first handful of years that i lived here i was living in the city and yes there are trees but like not overwhelmingly large amounts so i guess i wouldn't have been quite as hyper aware as i have been since i moved out of the city so Yeah, I don't know.
00:08:06
Speaker
But it's happening anyway. So i yeah I was listening to our previous Beltane episode from a year ago just because I wanted to make sure we didn't, you know, as you recommended I do, we that we listen to it so we don't repeat you know old topics. But i will I do want to comment on something because, and I didn't get to finish it yet, but I will.
00:08:33
Speaker
um when we started talking about that fire festival oh yeah yeah I totally watched that like sometime in the past year probably like probably because I told seven months ago but I don't I mean I don't think I did it right after that yeah you know I just remember seeing it because you know why Netflix had that whole series called train wreck right all these different crazy like yeah disastrous happenings. yeah And that was, i think, one of them.
00:09:08
Speaker
i think. It might not have been. have been But it popped up with all those. So I was like, oh yeah, I remember that. like And I just decided to watch it and I completely forgot that we had talked about that until I listened to her just now. yeah yeah you know A little while ago. And like I'm like, oh yeah, I totally freaking listened. I mean, I totally watched that and I was like liity like listening to what you were saying about it. I'm like, oh my God, dude. Yeah. That was nuts how you you know you refer to it as a Ponzi scheme and stuff like that. i was like that guy was a scammer big time. He literally was. like Horrible. Very literally. Yeah. Yeah. yeah
00:09:50
Speaker
Fucking crazy, man. Ugh. But yeah, like that. And then, you know, the other thing, which I don't know if you got far enough into the episode to catch this part, but the other like good old inside joke that ah I semi forgot about from our Beltane episode last year was like ah carrot vibes. Yeah. Yes, I got to that part.
00:10:14
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. And like, to be honest, I don't know why. i mean, i do and I don't know why Like with all the other Sabbaths that have come and gone that we haven't, you know, done a secondary covering of since we, you know, our first year of recording. Like, I don't know why this is the one that we decided like going to talk about this again. I just brought it up because I was like, Beltane's coming. Do you want to talk about it? result But I also feel like I've got such like a, I'm leaning so hard into this, like coming alive energy year. Yeah.
00:10:55
Speaker
That like it feels apt to talk about. but because Because I literally have like as I knew that I would for months as I've been struggling so much. Like I really have been just like my like eyes and my soul are like blossip like blooming like a flower.
00:11:20
Speaker
It feels like it. I love that. And in a way, I feel like it's a little bit like third eye shit, too. Like, I don't i don't know. i i also feel like I haven't been focused enough on my spirituality lately. too. But that's obviously, like, the one of the first things to fall by the wayside when we go through long stretches of mental health struggle. Yeah. But, like, but at the same time, I'm just like, no, I have to do something. i have to, like,
00:11:50
Speaker
take full advantage of this momentum that I'm feeling the natural momentum of the year and like lean all the way in and just do things differently you know and it certainly helps that just this past week seven planetary bodies were in Aries Yeah, dude. yeah Aries being my rising sign, my first house, my house of self. That's, oh my god, that's amazing.
00:12:29
Speaker
Dude. I it's it's hilarious because there are so many people especially people in our group chat who are like bemoaning the number of signs or yeah the number of planets that are in Aries right now and I'm over here just like yeah this it's my time Oh my god.
00:12:53
Speaker
and in particular, oh the one that I'm the most interested to to like lean into and see what happens is ah Neptune being in Aries.
00:13:06
Speaker
That one, like I know I've referred to it before because it like I think it entered Aries officially earlier this like early this year, like January or February. I can't remember exactly when.
00:13:20
Speaker
And Neptune is like the sort of hazy, funky, like not, not funky, but like, it's like the spiritual spirituality, like psychic things on scene kind of planet.
00:13:41
Speaker
And it's, it was definitely mentioned at some point in one of my Chani readings, um, that like for people with like strong, like prominent placements in Aries, Neptune in Aries would signify like fame.

Podcast Growth and Retirement Plans

00:14:01
Speaker
ah And I'm like, Ooh, I'm not sure about that. But there is like a lot that's in like the same vein that I'm like, it, like I I'm thinking in terms of like luck and,
00:14:17
Speaker
like opportunity okay well can i say something yeah we have been watching our analytics oh my god lately holy shit right yeah we're all over the whole world now oh my god very literally oh my god on every continent i think but except for antarctica meet we're in australia right in new zealand and stuff and we haven't hit new zealand yet no but we are in australia um and like yeah every single continent crazy so there you go there's your fame
00:15:01
Speaker
we're both fucking famous and we're yeah it In our own minds. hi Hello to everyone who has been listening like within the last few weeks like you know that discovered us. Hi, what's up? We have fucking exploded though. like We've had almost a thousand downloads in like a month, which is crazy. yeah like yeah that's Really high for us. Insane numbers for us. yeah which is like And it's crazy because that's...
00:15:31
Speaker
that's i mean There are way bigger at podcasts who are like, you know, they get like thousands in a day. Yeah. like we're We're gaining momentum like quickly all of a sudden, you know. It's so exciting. It's very exciting.
00:15:47
Speaker
And it's like, it it blows my mind too. I'm just like, y'all, hey, everyone, I really genuinely, I'm asking, I'm asking to the people who are listening across the world and in the US, like, but like everyone who's like just been discovering us, fucking write to us. I want to know you. Yeah, totally. Oh my God. say hi. Yeah.
00:16:10
Speaker
hell yeah please because this is so cool dude we're stoked oh my god yeah neptune and fucking aries homie let's go yeah my whole thing i don't know what the hell is up but my all of my stuff for me lately has been all about the 10th house the career stuff oh yeah and that's aries for you yeah yeah so don't know what that means but that's your mid heaven and your chiron right yeah yeah that's dope so i hope i hope it be be tokens good uh tidings me too for you but yeah it's it's it's okay so unbeknownst to me when i put a post up on facebook recently about
00:17:03
Speaker
how many days I had left to retirement like I expected to get a few you know thumbs up and couple of congrats or whatever but like people at work in the lounge who I'm not even friends with on Facebook were all like I hear you're retiring I'm just like holy shit all these people are coming up to me like asking me now they're just like ah they can't believe it you know Yeah. And ah I'm just like, well, yeah, but you know, you'll still see me around, I'm sure, because I'm probably going to end up subbing in the schools or, you know, doing something and where, I mean, I'm not going to be completely cut off from my, yeah you know. Yeah. But you'll give yourself a break.
00:17:47
Speaker
Oh, yeah. I mean, the thing is, technically, like, definitely... want to stay away from that place as much as possible but not do any kind of work within that school district not that i don't like it or any of that but like i just i need a change i just want something different yeah and uh it's like i have other ideas and safety the opportunity of like you know yeah where you know you can make good enough money i can fall back on it if i need to
00:18:18
Speaker
i'm gonna keep it also like you said like i remember you said it was a sub the sub situation where you can sort of like choose your hours and choose like your availability yeah and like so that's a whole different level of control than you that you've like never had right so that would be dope yeah for sure yeah here um but here's another thing that's fun is um Well, i did just tell somebody recently how i was like, did I, I said to this lady, and i can't remember if I told you that I was thinking about being becoming a travel agent. And she was just like, Oh, I don't know. Like, and so we were talking about that. And, yeah um, but then I remembered like another coworker of mine who retired a couple of years ago, he in his, in his pastime or like, you know, at times when we'd be on vacation,
00:19:15
Speaker
and wouldn't work for a couple of weeks or the summer or whatever he would do. um Did you hear my phone just now? Yeah. Oh, I'm so sorry. It's okay. right I was like, that sounded like it was in my ears, but it's not. um new areasries This, this guy has done work as a driver's ed teacher.
00:19:40
Speaker
m um a lot off and on over over the years. And so i just messaged him about that recently because i could totally see being a driver's ed instructor, especially if if I can like make my own hours with that. True.
00:19:57
Speaker
Yeah. You know, so I don't know if it's good pay or not, but it's worth looking into to me. And it's variety. I think that that's probably a lot of what you're craving is not just something new, but like of a wide swath. And I, and I like the multiple streams of income situation.
00:20:17
Speaker
so like I have a lot of different things to bet, you know, fall back on if I need to and stuff. Yeah. But I will say. Many yeah balls in the air. Yeah.
00:20:30
Speaker
um So you know how I've had this plan to like potentially have hand surgery like a couple weeks before I retire so that I don't have to bid on ah a new route at the end of summer and have to like work for a week and then say bye you know what I mean yeah um so like I just had a follow-up appointment with my hand specialist today and he's like oh no you're you're nowhere near getting surgery and I was just like what yeah It's like you told me I'm bone on bone in this hand. What the hell?
00:21:02
Speaker
How much worse does it have to get before you, you know what I mean? Before you say somebody needs surgery. Like, so I'm just very kind of like confused about that right now. Like, I don't know how much worse my hand is supposed to get. What, because I had physical therapy for the last month and it actually helped.
00:21:21
Speaker
So now I'm not a candidate for surgery. I mean, I don't know. i don't know, but I can't can't have physical therapy forever because the insurance won't pay for it forever.
00:21:32
Speaker
You know what i mean? yeah So it's like, yeah, eventually like I'm just going to have to stop getting physical therapy and then my hand's going you know, get bad again. He wants to give me a cortisone shot in my hand. I'm like, I've already had one of those. and that you said was the kind of thing where it comes back worse, right? Yeah. When it wears off, it hurt way worse for like a couple of months and then it finally like settled down. But yeah that's insane yeah i was just like i don't know if i want another cortisone shot right now yeah but i mean do what you think think you need to do but i say like get a new like go to a different like get a second opinion i know i'm so i might like i have a yeah appointment with my regular doctor tomorrow yeah she um she's the one who recommended him And I'm going to tell her like what he said. And I'm going to be like, what, what the hell? Like, I mean, I know you're not a hand specialist, but like really seriously, how bad does my thumb have to get before they decide that it's a candidate for surgery? Maybe I'll get there in the next four or five months. Who knows? Yeah. But you know, I need to be able to continue ah therapy.
00:22:45
Speaker
Right. you know Yeah. And I need enough time to be able to schedule a surgery appointment. during that time frame that I want. Right. You know, so that I can go off work and be gone, be not working at all yeah when my retirement date comes around. So anyway. Yeah. Do you think that that would be like a, you would claim like a short-term disability like.
00:23:11
Speaker
I mean. type of thing. You have to be off for 30 whole days before they start paying you for short-term disability. And I won't. it probably won't be 30 whole days because my retirement date will hit before that.
00:23:24
Speaker
um Yeah. So I don't know. i don't know how that's going to work out, but yeah, maybe I'll just try to use like some of my vacation days, like save them up and just be like, I'm going on vacation. I won't be at route selection. um You know? Yeah.
00:23:42
Speaker
So even though route selection is mandatory, it's, I'm just going to be like, I don't want to pick her out and then work a week and then go off. Surely they will understand that.
00:23:53
Speaker
So we'll see We'll see. Yeah. Too many moving parts at this point. Yeah. It'll come together the way that it's supposed to.
00:24:03
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, usually things do. Yeah. need I'm not worried. Yeah. Anyway. Anyway. In the last little month, I get a whole week off. Ooh, tell me why. that is Well, that is the, I think I mentioned it a couple months ago now, where I made a plan to just like, because I have my...
00:24:31
Speaker
my time off like the grand total is a lot now. Wow. It's, you know, it's four weeks of vacation, two weeks of PTO. And so i have a lot of time to use through the, through the whole year.
00:24:48
Speaker
So, you know what? I was like, fuck it. I'm going to take a week during a time that I don't have travel plans and I'm just going to fucking relax.
00:25:02
Speaker
yes yeah it's not like a whole like monday to friday week i think i started on a wednesday and uh ended on a tuesday so like it's a full seven days but it's two partial like work weeks that helps too i think yeah yeah um i i was gonna try to see if you can schedule yourself a massage or something we'll see while you're off we'll see I've been thinking about it. I feel like I would need one sooner than that. but
00:25:34
Speaker
We'll get one sooner than that, but then get one while you're off too. I am also just like not prepared to budget for it right now. so oh but We'll try. I'll try. We'll see. i don't know.
00:25:47
Speaker
okay um But was my intention Actually, like at first it was like, oh, I'm just going to take, I think it was originally only had like five or six days in a row because like I just, I don't know.
00:26:07
Speaker
i I don't remember what it was. It was just I wanted like a longer time off. um And then i had seen that idea that somebody talked about doing on TikTok where she, over the holidays, took 18 days in a row off of work. and she used that time specifically to basically...
00:26:39
Speaker
live as though she was a full-time writer oh do you remember me telling you about that i don't okay i think not right now i might have i might have sent it to you or one of her videos to you and said like i really like this idea um and i can't take 18 days in a row like i think she was only able to do that because it was over the holidays which there's already so many days off from work where i work uh during that time but
00:27:13
Speaker
I was like, you know what? Even if I can't take 18 days off, I already have almost a whole week planned off. So I just like went in added an extra day. And so I made sure it was seven days in a row. And i will have,
00:27:28
Speaker
ah that's like my vacation will end and then there'll be like two or three days of work.

Creative Projects and Writing Goals

00:27:38
Speaker
And then a three-day weekend for Memorial memorial Day.
00:27:44
Speaker
So, like, that will be not really exactly, like, a full, like, it'll be, like, bonus time. But, ah yeah, like, I so stoked.
00:28:00
Speaker
e So stoked. I'm stoked for ya hey hey you. Thank Yeah, I... I don't know.
00:28:13
Speaker
Maybe I'm
00:28:16
Speaker
um really as I'm literally as I'm thinking about it right now, I'm like, wouldn't have been better if I just like took the full week off before Memorial Day? Because then I'd have two.
00:28:29
Speaker
That's like 10 days almost. Yeah. You know what? Even if you took like a Monday through Friday, that ends up being like nine days. That's true. Because you have two weekends bookending.
00:28:45
Speaker
you know what I mean? Yeah. And it's bizarre that I would be, i guess it is only seven days. Time is so weird. It's two weekends. Yeah, that's true.
00:28:56
Speaker
But it would be extra because it would be ah with Memorial Day. Yeah. So I might check and see, make sure that nobody else is taking that time off that I would need to be ah covering for.
00:29:15
Speaker
and maybe I'll shift my days. We'll see. Yeah, that's the funny thing. When we have it a week off, it's like, i always think of it as like, if it's nine days, because you have two weekends bookending the five days, you know?
00:29:32
Speaker
yeah So it feels like longer than a week. Yeah. It's nice. Yeah. But that's like, my intention is to, i mean, like, I intend to like, relax, but also I intend to basically give myself like a writing goal every day and I haven't decided fully what that will be specifically I think it'll be like a set amount of time that I need to spend writing because I'm not gonna like focus on just one single project during that time but like i want to be able to bounce around it and like I'm not gonna be able to quantify pages the same way depending on what I'm working on so
00:30:20
Speaker
I think I'm probably going to tell myself like something like maybe four or five hours per day writing. um Because the point being, and this is the thing with writing, but perfectionists hate it And I am one of them, or I have been one of them and I'm trying to teach myself to not, but the point with writing is to churn out the content And never get caught on the details as you're in the middle of it.
00:30:52
Speaker
Yeah, that makes sense. So, like, I've been trying my best to focus more on that and focus more on just, like, get everything down on the page and then worry about editing once you have a complete first draft.
00:31:15
Speaker
Sure. So... Yeah. That makes sense. So that'll be my goal is to, you know, use that time to like fully immerse myself.
00:31:30
Speaker
And just like, like I literally like the word ah that keeps coming up is churning out the content. Mm hmm.
00:31:42
Speaker
ah Because I'm capable of it. You know, i know that I can. So like, I might as well take the opportunity and really buckle down and focus.
00:31:55
Speaker
So sweet. I'm looking forward to it. Do you think you're going to finish your first novel that you started? Who knows? I like, don't even, don't, I'm nowhere near to finishing that. I,
00:32:13
Speaker
I haven't looked at it in a while actually I mean I guess the question is i mean is it something you would want to work on at all like not that you would finish it but I'm just i think I would especially because I probably am gonna just need to have like a variety of things to be able to work on because I know that at some point I'm gonna be like a little burnt out on a certain thing yeah But like I said, I haven't looked at it in a long time.
00:32:42
Speaker
So I'll have to like dust the metaphorical dust off of it and try to dive in So we'll see.
00:32:56
Speaker
Yeah. But, oh you know, sometimes I have to remind myself that that was another thing that I wanted to do. I really need to start making a list of like all the ideas of things that I want to do in like retirement. Lists the best in world. know, but I never, I can't keep them. Like and lose them. So they don't really help me. yeah.
00:33:19
Speaker
i mean if i do them in my phone or i won't lose it then that's what i was just gonna say you know how many fucking notes i have on my phone and like half of them are grocery lists but like notes on my phone how many do i have fucking 612 wow wow Yep.
00:33:42
Speaker
Do you ever go and delete the ones you don't need anymore? i probably i usually start to and then I get sidetracked reading other stuff that I've written.
00:33:53
Speaker
ah But I have them going all the way back to 2012. I have a couple of years that got lost, but like... yeah I have one in 2012 and then several in 2013. Then I skipped 2014, 2015, 2016 because some asshole told me that I needed to factory reset my phone and I lost them, but whatever. have 2017, 2018. 2019 is when they start to get really out of hand.
00:34:25
Speaker
ah How That's also because that's when I started doing tarot readings and I wrote all of them in my notes and all of them. I never ever delete them. love that.
00:34:37
Speaker
So yeah So i have tarot readings. I have grocery lists. I have on the fly recipes in here. um o i have... A plan that I tried to make for when we were going to be hanging out in 2020 before your flight first got canceled. Bar hopping with Sweet Ma. Oh my god.
00:35:01
Speaker
Not that you would ever be interested in doing that. Come on. There'll be more, but you know. Anyway. just bar hopping It's also just restaurants in general. what I was gonna say and I don't think I finished go right ahead I'm so sorry no it's not your fault at all I just I totally sidetracked myself with the list situation but um I always forget that writing a book is also a thing that I have been wanting to do yeah um
00:35:31
Speaker
but not fiction because i I have no imagination or creativity at all. um I just need to like, I want to write my life story. Basically. i want to write lessons I've learned in my life and things like that. But yeah, you know, ah who knows if it'll ever get published, whatever. i don't know, but the first goal is writing it all down. Yeah.
00:35:56
Speaker
And then that's the thing. It's like, If I do get it published, that's going to be another stream of income if it gets if it actually gets some sales, you know? Yeah.
00:36:09
Speaker
So, don't know. We'll see. You should here see
00:36:19
Speaker
Yeah, I need to do the same because there's not only the novel that I've been working on 11 years now. But but also the book that's kind of about my own life, but the one that I want to write that ah is pertaining to what I taught in Anaharas last year.
00:36:42
Speaker
Which I can't remember how much I talked about that, but I kind of want to still keep it under wraps a little bit. Yeah. But I do still want to write that.
00:36:53
Speaker
and That's another yet another project that I can work on during my ah writing week. Hell yeah. So yeah, I'm excited. Sweet.
00:37:05
Speaker
It'll be I'm excited too. So what are the dates that you're going to be off? Well, if I move them, they will be different than what I currently have on the calendar.
00:37:16
Speaker
But ah give me calendar, computer. Give me May. Currently, i have i think it's the
00:37:31
Speaker
14th. So that's a Thursday. Through the 20th. I think. m Or it could be the other way. The 13th through the 19th.
00:37:42
Speaker
But I could just switch. If I can, I will switch and take the 18th through the twenty second and then i'll have 10 days yeah with memorial day 10 days in a row yeah So I'll try. I'll see if I can do that. The ideal. You should do it if you can. Would good. um But yeah. And what else was I going to say?
00:38:13
Speaker
I don't remember. But

Mindset, Luck, and Personal Growth

00:38:16
Speaker
yeah. I've just been coming alive. There's a thing that I saw. i feel like i've so I've been watching a lot of TikTok lately. And it's probably not good for my brain. But i have been getting a lot of inspiration from it, though.
00:38:34
Speaker
And one of the things that I saw was someone talking about a study that was done on people, like someone who specifically studies the concept of luck and people who feel lucky.
00:38:49
Speaker
hu And this man did a study where he brought in a you know set number of people who consider themselves to be lucky. And he brought in a set number of people who either specifically consider themselves unlucky or don't generally consider themselves lucky, which are, in my mind, two different things. Yeah. ah Unlucky means bad things happen to you a lot. Yeah. You know, potentially. That attitude is what I feel my ex was always operating on. Oh, for so sure. oh my god.
00:39:26
Speaker
But like these two very separate groups of people and they were all of them given a newspaper that was printed for this specific study. And they said like they basically were like.
00:39:44
Speaker
If you can correctly count the number of pictures that are in this newspaper and give the exact correct number, you will get 500, I think it was pet pounds. I think it was in England. So you will get 500 pounds. So people started to do this and people who did not consider themselves lucky were like intensely counting every single photo, like picture or photo or whatever.
00:40:15
Speaker
Halfway through this newspaper, there is a full page ad put into the newspaper that says, if you see this, go to the proctor with this specific number and you will get The prize money.
00:40:32
Speaker
The proctor being the person giving the test. I don't remember what the exact phrasing was, but it was basically like, give this exact number to the proctor and you will get the prize money.
00:40:43
Speaker
And every single person who entered this study, considering themselves to be lucky, saw the ad. And everyone who didn't did not see the ad.
00:40:55
Speaker
And there was a bonus ad at the back too that said, if you give this like password or whatever, you'll get bonus money. Like it was the kind of thing where it was just like, there's opportunities there. And like, that's the thing.
00:41:08
Speaker
i think it's like, that's what the nature of luck is, is people who just are minded to like observe and notice and recognize opportunities.
00:41:19
Speaker
For what they are rather than getting hyper focused on doing everything exactly the right way. Yeah. Yeah. And I've never considered myself unlucky, but I've also never considered myself lucky.
00:41:34
Speaker
Like I've always just sort of been in a middle ground of like, i don't know, you know, but I, I think that like, based on that study, I think we have a lot more control over it than we fucking realize. Mm hmm.
00:41:47
Speaker
And obviously, like, it's absolutely related to, like, the concept of manifestation as well. Yeah. And then the whole concept about negativity, your negative mindset in general or a positive mindset in general, when you're more stressed out in and bogged down with, like, negative thoughts and feelings, yeah you it is also proven that you miss...
00:42:16
Speaker
that's when you miss the opportunities that you could have yeah to make things better in your life. It's almost like there's like a filter over your brain. Yeah. It's yeah. Cause it's like, you don't even have to be conscious of it for it to be the case. Even if shit is bad in your life, if you at least do your best to not be stressed about it and just relax and, and enter like a flow state, like energy wise. Yeah.
00:42:43
Speaker
you'll be open to seeing the things that are right there that can help you. And so those are the people who end up getting out of the hole and like changing things for themselves, you know? Yeah. And that's like literally exactly what I feel like I'm diving into with the like momentum I've been gaining over the last, like almost a month, I'd say as things have warmed up, uh,
00:43:12
Speaker
That and also just trying very, ah trying to be very conscious and full of intention when it comes to like getting back to being who I've always known myself to be. Because I feel like stress and pressure and anxiety and everything have just sort of driven a wedge between me and myself. Yeah.
00:43:44
Speaker
Like I was sent commented to Jim the other day, like that I fully have not properly listened to music in a long time.
00:43:55
Speaker
oh And like, that's just so not who I am. Right. like i know i totally understand that. It's frustrating because I'm like, I, i fully like, I love podcasts and I love audio books, but I think they're becoming a problem for me because that's what I listened And I'm never like with myself fully.
00:44:21
Speaker
hu and i've started to get uncomfortable like with myself you know like being left alone with my own thoughts like you know i've found this impulse every time that i'm like existing without actually like having something playing i i feel the impulse to like try to find something to listen to so that i don't have to be alone with my own thoughts and i don't like that that's become the case you know, and like music is different. Like music is a little like it's, you know, you're not alone with your thoughts, but you're also not escaping your thoughts. Right.
00:45:03
Speaker
I think that music gives you a chance to get more in touch with your feelings. Absolutely. And it also can really guide what you're feeling well. Like obviously like whatever you're feeling is going to take precedence, but like if you're in like a neutral mood and then you put on some good bop and music like we were talking about at the beginning of this episode like it's going to really steer you in a happier direction you know yeah um
00:45:34
Speaker
And like that is absolutely what I need to remind myself of and remind myself to do more. You know, so like that was what I was realizing as I was telling Jim about it because I like picked him up for, you know, his lunch break.
00:45:51
Speaker
And i was blasting. i don't even remember remember what it was, but I was just blasting music for the first time in a long time. and singing along to it and was just like fuck man like i've missed this yeah Fuck.
00:46:14
Speaker
Yeah. You know, and like to to also like re-engage with that aspect of myself, I feel is going to be a lot more conducive to me finding a flow state.

Music's Emotional Impact

00:46:27
Speaker
You know? So. You know, that reminds me of something that I would like to just bring up really quick. Okay. In our last Beltane episode, i think we were talking about...
00:46:42
Speaker
I think the topic came up right now about sexy music yeah listening to any music that makes you feel yourself yeah yeah so there's a song that I've always loved and I remember hearing it for the first time when I was in college like I was probably a freshman or so yeah um And I don't know if you know this song or if I ever told you about this song before, but I'm going to recommend it to the people because i think it's a good one. yeah you want to do some like,
00:47:18
Speaker
I don't know, the the the kind of dance, trancy dance or where you're feeling like real, like, you know, getting into, yeah, yeah feeling yourself stuff, right? yeah uh it it does this for me so i don't know maybe i'm maybe i'm really bonkers or whatever but i don't think you are the the the band is called dead can dance okay i feel like i've heard of that the song is called the ubiquitous i knew i was gonna butcher it fuck the ubiquitous mr lovegrove okay
00:47:57
Speaker
It's really fucking good. Alright. I'm going to look it up and I'll put it on when I go to pick up Jim from work. Yeah, it's very chill. It's not like bopping beats, you know what I mean?
00:48:10
Speaker
It's very chill. What you think the was? Dead can dance. Dead can dance.
00:48:20
Speaker
Ubiquitous Mr. Lovegrove. Alrighty. It's so good.
00:48:27
Speaker
It's sexy. It's very sultry. Okay, cool. Love it. uh, yeah. yeah I love that.
00:48:38
Speaker
I am looking forward to listening to it. i um I also, well, i'm just because I'm thinking of it. First of all, like as when I opened my Apple Music, the most recent song that I've added to my playlists is a song that I added to my goth soul playlist. um And that is...
00:49:01
Speaker
is A song that has been, it's been going viral on TikTok and maybe it's made ah made us with Instagram. I'm not sure.
00:49:13
Speaker
But it's this artist who is like a goth screamo female metal vocalist. And her name is Mafra.
00:49:24
Speaker
M-A-P-H-R-A. Hmm. And she covered a song that I think is originally by Bring Me The Horizon. and it's called Doomed. And it is so fucking good. Like, I didn't know the song originally. I didn't know the song in its original form.
00:49:48
Speaker
But listening to this beautiful fucking singer, she's a stunning vocalist just in general. And then her technique... as like a as like a metal vocalist, as like a scream vocalist is like pristine. Wow. It's so good.
00:50:09
Speaker
Is it literally just screaming? no not the whole time. Okay. Just through like most of the chorus. ah each like Each chorus. Because I don't typically like get into music where they're screaming. i don't like it. I have to be in a particular mood for that. But this...
00:50:29
Speaker
It flavors it. It flavors it like a beautiful, delicious seasoning. okay And it is so good. And I think you would love it, Christina. and I think if anybody out there has not actually heard this or seen this this video of her circulating.
00:50:44
Speaker
where you know it was she recorded a video it's on youtube of just her singing the song but it's also released commercially to listen to ah but the video is the thing that's been trending and and going viral if you haven't heard it yet you should go listen to it uh but that was the first thing that i thought of the other thing that i thought of which like partly like because of you know i was reminded because of your like memory ah you know hearkening back to years ago but also kind of reminded after the feel-good music conversation we had at the start of this episode
00:51:29
Speaker
ah There is an album and it actually popped up again recently with the fact that i added a song from it to our episode, ah not cancellation, but like announcing that we wouldn't have an episode last week. Okay. instagram i don't know if you listened to that song when you saw the post. but I did. i don't remember right now, but I remember hearing music and I i think I thought it was cool or fitting or something. So that song was called Ain't It Fun?
00:51:59
Speaker
by paramore okay and it's from their self-titled album from 2013 usually self-titled albums are you know a band's like debut album they didn't i don't know what i can't remember their first album was titled but it wasn't a self-titled one this was like their third or fourth album that they had put out and i think it was their fourth And I remember listening the wheels off of this album in the summer of 2013.
00:52:33
Speaker
And in particular, and I would be so shocked if I have not already told this story, so I apologize if it is a repeat. But...
00:52:44
Speaker
There was a day in the summer of 2013 that I went to the beach with a very good friend of mine from high school and church. And we like made a day of it. It was like a kind of a personal liberation day for the both of us because we were both raised Mormon and she was fixing to leave on a mission soon. but I was on my way out of the church. I was actually out like almost basically out entirely from the church by that point. ah But she told me She's like, Molly, i want you to help me with this plan that I have. I want us to go to Target and buy bikinis. And then I want us to go to the beach and wear the bikinis at the beach.
00:53:26
Speaker
And I was like... I am here for it. Sweet. We went to Target. I think I heard this, but I don't remember right now. So I want to hear that. Yeah, I think I probably told you at least if I haven't told it on the podcast. But we went to Target. We bought bikinis. I bought a black bikini with metal, like bronze metal studs all over the tits. Yeah. because of course i did and she bought a teal and white striped bikini it was very cute and we planned a day to go to the beach where we were picked i picked her up it was like a three-hour drive to the beaches that we wanted to go to so i picked her up super early it was like 6 a.m and ah we drove all the way out was a
00:54:17
Speaker
We were in Northern Virginia, living ah living in Northern Virginia at the time. and we went up to Rehoboth Beach in Delaware. Dewey Beach, Rehoboth Beach, like the stretch of beaches all the way down that coastline, all the way down to Atlantic City, Maryland. ah and we spent the day, the whole day, like the morning we spent like actually on the beach, like in our bikinis, fully relaxing, way.
00:54:47
Speaker
And like, it was wonderful. It was extremely liberating. it was wonderful. Oh my God. And then for like the afternoon, we went down to the boardwalk at Atlantic City.
00:55:04
Speaker
And we just like walked to the boardwalk. We checked out all sorts of cool little shops. um And we like, you know, had like a late lunch and maybe an early dinner. i don't remember exactly, but it was like, we were like sun drenched and tired in that like really, really lovely way after you spent the whole day and like in the sun.
00:55:29
Speaker
And it was like, 6 p.m ish maybe 7 p.m by the time that we were getting in the car to head home and there is this giant bridge that you have to cross to get like between northern virginia slash maryland over to the delmarva peninsula It's like me with your ubiquitous.
00:55:57
Speaker
um But it's this huge-ass bridge. And it's a lot of fun to drive over if you if you enjoy bridges. Some people don't. ah But in particular...
00:56:11
Speaker
It's really fun to drive over at night because it's all lit up. o And it goes real high up in the air because it is so long.
00:56:22
Speaker
And if you're in the right headspace, you can kind of feel like you're flying. ye i love it. And so, like and I've been, you know, I played the, you know, this exact album in the morning when we were driving to the beach. Yeah. And I played it again as we were leaving from the beach. And it was just sort of, put the whole album on repeat, basically.
00:56:45
Speaker
The very last song of this album is called Future. And it's a long one. And it has like you know, a short portion of like a couple of verses at the beginning. And then it's like five ish plus minutes of like shredding guitar, just wailing. And it is so good. And it it like fades out and then fades back in at a certain point. It's so interesting and like experimental in a way that you don't expect from Paramore, but it's really good.
00:57:19
Speaker
But it got to that exact song as we were approaching the bridge and this feeling that i got as we were crossing and i was just like sun drenched and exhausted and anna my friend was asleep and i'm crossing this bridge paramour is wailing in my ears and i've just like i've got all these lights flashing past me and i'm like fucking flying on this bridge at night and it is
00:57:50
Speaker
oo
00:57:53
Speaker
That was a top tier core memory experience for me. yeah love it. And like that is the kind of shit that I miss.
00:58:05
Speaker
And that is what I need to get back to. Yeah. That day i was unequivocally 100% myself. Yeah, dude. That's awesome.
00:58:18
Speaker
yeah i love it So I'll need to listen to that. Yeah, you will. What was the other Paramore song that you mentioned? The one that I put on the the post. Yeah, yeah. Okay. It's called Ain't It Fun.
00:58:31
Speaker
Okay. But I will recommend that entire album if you ever feel like you want to just listen to a whole new album. Okay. Like there is not a single song on that album that I ever like want to skip.

Cultural Influences and Fun Activities

00:58:43
Speaker
That's a no skip. That's what they call When you say self-titled album, that means the album's called Paramore. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. so And it's from 2013, so that'll also tip you off when you're looking for it.
00:58:55
Speaker
Okay. so yeah But also, definitely listen to that song by Mothra. Oh, yeah. If you need me to send you a link, I can do that too. but ah yeah Very good.
00:59:07
Speaker
Are you familiar with um Mothra? I have heard of. and i don't like i Is that a band or is that... It's a concept.
00:59:22
Speaker
It's a monster? It's a character. it's a monster. Okay. I've definitely heard of it. It's monster character. think it battled Godzilla. That sounds right.
00:59:34
Speaker
Yeah. Did you have a reason for bringing it up? i think I wonder if that's where they got that name. Like somehow. Probably. Playing off of Mothra. I think so.
00:59:46
Speaker
It's very good. I like it. Okay. And then that the name of that song again? I'm sorry. Doomed. Doomed. Okay. Yeah, it's good.
00:59:59
Speaker
Anyway. Yay! Do you still want to end the way that I suggested we end? Oh. Maybe. If it's if it's quick. I don't think it'll take that long. If you want to do some...
01:00:15
Speaker
If it's quick, okay. Otherwise, I'm just really tired. I'm going to give you three options for Mad Libs. Okay. and we'll see how well We'll see what happens. Okay.
01:00:31
Speaker
Your first option is the judge's decision. your section ah section Your second option is the latest dance craze.
01:00:42
Speaker
And your third option is the comeback kid. and Oh boy, you know it's going to be a dance craze for me. Oh yeah. The latest dance craze. Okay, my dear, give me an adjective.
01:00:56
Speaker

We're just going to do one because Jim and I enjoyed doing that last time. And so I wanted to bring the joy to Christina. Adjective is a descriptor word.
01:01:15
Speaker
Okay. um And i don't I don't see the story ahead of time, so I can also add to these if you need help. Okay. Because I won't be biased. Oh my god. You want me to start you off? No. You want to think of them? this is um Is gloomy an adjective? Absolutely it is. Let's do it.
