Speaker
Well, hello, welcome to the latest episode of the Purple Door Podcast of Friends Rewatch Pod. I'm your host, Alistair, alongside my good friend, Deanne. Deanne, how are you today? am doing great. It's a little rainy and nasty outside, but that is a-okay.
00:00:20
Speaker
It is. I've got a long list of things to do outside today. Rots are running around, but I think the rain will ease up. But yeah, we're both off for the next week, so nothing can go wrong. Nothing can dampen our spirits, even in the rain.
00:00:36
Speaker
ah see what you did there. You see what we did there.

Episode Preview

00:00:39
Speaker
well today we are reviewing Season 1, Episode 13, The One with the Boobies. So I'm looking forward to kind of digging into this one.
00:00:49
Speaker
um You will see throughout this, i certainly I love this episode. So looking forward to exploring it with you.

Trivia Game: Bamboozled

00:00:57
Speaker
But um before we do that, let's start off with Bamboozled. And if you've got some questions, why don't you start off?
00:01:04
Speaker
All righty. So my first question for you today, Al, is who's Joey's sister that has the restraining order? That is my last question for you. that would be Tina.
00:01:17
Speaker
and There you go Nice. Good job. Yeah, it was funny. I asked Kate wasn't around when I made the questions yesterday. So I ran the questions by her and she thought it was Tina Maria, which I thought was beautiful.
00:01:31
Speaker
Because it's the Catholic thing. So i thought that was it might well be Tina Maria. I was going to say, it very well may be. yeah Later on, whenever we really get to see Joey's sister. To see more.
00:01:44
Speaker
Indeed, we get to know them. Well, my first one for you is I've written down three assumptions that Roger makes about Chandler before he really gets to know him. Can you name any of those assumptions?
00:01:56
Speaker
Mm-hmm. only child. Yeah. Parents divorce before puberty. Yeah.
00:02:06
Speaker
And this other one. And it's it's that he's got intimacy issues. Yes. And he uses... Humor to push people

Roger's Assumptions about Chandler

00:02:16
Speaker
away. that's Humor to keep people at a distance is what i've written down. Three out of three. Well done. hi all right How long has Mr. Tribbiani been having his affair?
00:02:31
Speaker
I didn't write that down. I know it's its years. I have six or eight in my head. I'll go with seven. Oh, it was six. It was six. ah All right. i was in the area.
00:02:46
Speaker
Not quite right. Six years. All right. Well, speaking of Mr. Trib's affair, when he opens up to Joey about it, what is Joey chopping in the kitchen?
00:03:01
Speaker
Ah, he's chopping garlic. And then I thought they were mushrooms because I was looking at them on the... on the cutting table or on the cutting board and I thought it it was mushrooms but then the dad says ah you know what are you doing and he said I'm chopping garlic is you need to mash it or smash it or whatever whatever cooking people that are awesome know what to do with garlic so there you go there we go well done or red on there too yes okay all right Al
00:03:38
Speaker
yeah What does Phoebe tell Roger her friends don't like about him?
00:03:47
Speaker
Again, didn't write this down. ah Playing the seed in my head, I think he's intense and creepy. You are 100% correct. Yes. All right.
00:03:58
Speaker
What advice does Roger give Monica about the cookies that she is eating?

Monica's Emotional Eating

00:04:04
Speaker
Yes. Yes. I don't remember exactly what he says, but he tells her that it's food, not love.
00:04:12
Speaker
That's exactly it. ah Okay. I was like, I don't, i I don't remember, but he says something. Maybe I don't remember if he told her to put him down or take it easy or put her told her put him down or it easy. right. There was something before it, but I've read that they're just food, not love. not And a little side note, I do love that she throws them at the door, which goes against her neat freak.
00:04:36
Speaker
Oh, yeah. Persona that we've discovered, you know? Well, I love how throughout that whole episode, everybody's like, I hate that guy. Yeah, it's so good.
00:04:48
Speaker
I hate that guy. Okay. So what does Joey's mom call Ronnie? Like, she doesn't ever say Ronnie, but she calls her, like, something, and it's...
00:05:03
Speaker
something very specific that would be specifically Ronnie.
00:05:10
Speaker
I think I know. Is it a poodle stuffer? It is. It is, which we're going to get into later, but that's right. Well, on that note, Ronnie says that sometimes people want their pets stuffed in poses.
00:05:24
Speaker
What two poses does she say? oh man. Okay. well They're sitting on the couch and she's Talking to Chandler. Mm-hmm. And i I don't remember exactly, but, like, one of them, she's like, like i mean I mean, you can see me. but Yeah. like Yeah. yeah just That's one of them. and And then the other one is like.
00:05:47
Speaker
ah Exactly. and i is it like catching a ball or something? yeahre Catching a Frisbee.
00:05:59
Speaker
Okay. All right. Nice, nice. And then the other one, is it like chasing your tail or? Exactly correct. yeah Which might add, you did a very good impression of both.
00:06:10
Speaker
Yeah. Oh, thank you. You're welcome. Okay.

Joey's Dad's Affair

00:06:15
Speaker
So why did Ronnie come to Joey and Chandler's apartment in the first place? To drop off the good hair.
00:06:23
Speaker
The good hair. Yeah.
00:06:27
Speaker
that why you adult you why To me, if you have good hair, that would imply you maybe have not so good hair. Why would you have more than one wig? That's a question that maybe we don't have an answer to.
00:06:39
Speaker
Yeah, well, he just has no hair. Right, has no hair. know The whole time in this episode, so I don't know. just Let's see, I've got two questions left for you. Alright, what line of work is Joey's dad in?
00:06:58
Speaker
oh Oh. Hang onhandla mentioneds it yes so yeah Whenever they're laying in the pull-out pouch. Is it pipes?
00:07:09
Speaker
It's pipe fitting. Yes. Okay. okay i Yes. no i yeah I don't know why that stuck in my brain. But because we're looking for all of these little bitty things. Right. And I think they say later that his dad's in the plumbing business. And I think basically those are kind of They're not interchangeable, but I think a plumber does pipe fitting.
00:07:32
Speaker
That sounds logical to me. Shout out to all the plumbers. That's right, all the plumbers out there. Plumbing 101 and 301 and all the things. We were just discussing but off the air before we recorded the importance of a good plumber.
00:07:47
Speaker
Yes. yes All right. Now, this one's not super ah fair, but it's fun anyway. So, after Joey finds out,
00:07:58
Speaker
About the affair. he's ah He's gone over to the girl's apartment and he's talking with them. Yes.

Peanut Butter and Joey

00:08:05
Speaker
What's he eating?
00:08:08
Speaker
Now, I've written in my notes that everyone is eating pizza. So I don't know if he is or he isn't. So I'm just going to go with pizza. Okay. Okay. No, he's got the gigantic jar of peanut butter. And he is straight up just eating it with his fingers. It's so gross.
00:08:26
Speaker
I didn't notice that, but i noticed in another scene, he's just sitting on the couch with the peanut butter like in his lap. And I remember thinking, that's odd. i didn't catch him eating or having it in that scene. That's pretty disgusting.
00:08:40
Speaker
Joseph will get the jar of peanut butter. i don't particularly care for peanut butter most of the time. Right. But he'll sit there and he'll just have the jar out.
00:08:51
Speaker
But he very correctly does not stick his fingers in there. He has the good good grace to use a spoon. but Right. Like, why would you do that instead of a spoon?
00:09:05
Speaker
And then who's peanut butter? He didn't take that from his apartment. You know he didn't. He sold it from Monica. yeah Gross. Yeah, not good. But I forgive him.
00:09:17
Speaker
My final question if you is probably unfair too because it's very specific. I just noticed it. um When Joey and Chandler are trying to sleep on the pull-out couch, what is on each of their t-shirts?
00:09:30
Speaker
oh Yeah. Yeah. Oh. Okay, hang on. and They're white. well One of them is. at chandler's ah Chandler's is white.
00:09:43
Speaker
Okay. With a big logo on it. and Yeah, I have um MTV. I have no idea. That's good guess. on Chandler's, it's a white T-shirt with the big graphic of Speed Racer, which I think was a cartoon in the 70s. I swear there's a Speed Racer poster or something that shows up at another time, but I might be wrong.
00:10:05
Speaker
And then Joey is simply wearing a big blue New York Giants T-shirt.

Roger's Red Glasses

00:10:10
Speaker
Oh, wow. Very specific. Yeah. Here's my unfair question.
00:10:17
Speaker
All right. All right. What color are Roger's glasses?
00:10:22
Speaker
Yikes. I have no idea, but I'm going to assume he's kind of quirky so they wouldn't be plain. Although I feel like they're black, which is odd. I'm going to go with red.
00:10:36
Speaker
They are red. Are they? I just went with a bright color. Okay, but the reason that I'm bringing this up is because whenever David goes to Minsk, David was wearing red glasses.
00:10:50
Speaker
And I did not go back to double check and I haven't like deep dived into it or anything, but I wonder if they're not the same daggum glasses. That would be fantastic, actually, if they weren't. Right?
00:11:05
Speaker
Yeah. I will just throw this out there. My mother-in-law, who I'll make sure I've let her know, is getting a mention. She has a pair of red glasses that she will wear on special occasions.
00:11:16
Speaker
Because if she wants, epi not not a persona, that's not fair. But they just, if she's looking for a certain, almost not powerful. I can't think word, maybe fancy. A certain look.
00:11:26
Speaker
She has a pair of fantastic red glasses that are saved for special occasions. So maybe there's something to red glasses. I don't know. Maybe

Roger's Character Analysis

00:11:35
Speaker
so. Maybe so. Yes.
00:11:37
Speaker
I love it. thinking about all the pieces that we've talked about, how it's the first season, you know, they don't know um what, and not that it would have been super like expensive or whatever to just get some different glasses, but I don't know.
00:11:57
Speaker
It just yeah seems odd because the colored glasses, I don't know that that was really the thing then. Yeah. Because like David isn't a fashionable guy. you know Right. But Roger, and they're both love interests of Phoebe. So maybe she has a thing for guys with red glasses.
00:12:15
Speaker
We will have to track this and see. i This is going to happen. I like You better believe anybody else that she dates that has glasses, I'll be talking about them. We'll be looking at the glasses. I like it.
00:12:30
Speaker
All right. Well, let's get it. Was that your last question? Oh, well, I do have one more, but do you want me to ask it? ah Why not? Why not? What's Ronnie's last name?
00:12:45
Speaker
It's got to be something stereotypical, sort of Italian. um
00:12:55
Speaker
All I can think of in my head, and I think I'm right in saying the actress that plays her, I Googled the name, and her last name is Kistenza, which is a great Seinfeld link in real life.
00:13:07
Speaker
So we'll just go with... ah I know it's not Kistenza, but we'll go with Kistenza. um No, that is not correct, but it was a beautiful guess. Beautiful guess. Thank you, thank you.
00:13:19
Speaker
Ruffalado. Ruffalado, yes. that's That's a great... sort of Italian New York name, i think. and yes iy i I don't know. I don't know, but I like the sound of it.
00:13:34
Speaker
Well, we can't ever leave questions on the table, even if we have more than one or the other, I think. yeah I think that would be disrespectful to Bamboozled. ah think this that I apologize for even suggesting that I wouldn't ask that. Quite all right. Quite all right. No questions left. That's the motto of the podcast, I think.
00:13:54
Speaker
So let's take with But let's dive in. Let's get into this episode. I'm excited to talk about it. um but the The very first scene, but one of the most important scenes in the whole episode, because it sets everything up.
00:14:08
Speaker
Chandler walking into the girl's apartment, into the fridge, and then he sees Rachel walking through wi just a towel around her waist, drying her hair. Yeah. I'll be interested to see if use if it's any different, of course, in your DVD version. and um But we see an angle of the apartment. I don't think we see again.

Chandler Sees Rachel Topless

00:14:30
Speaker
i feel they had to build out the fourth wall a little bit when we kind of see Chandler from Rachel's viewpoint.
00:14:38
Speaker
um You can see what would be the fourth wall of the apartment back there where it's painted purple.
00:14:46
Speaker
What? I didn't even notice that. Yeah, kind of where the front door is. Then it goes round the corner because you see Chandler from where Rachel is standing, which is a very unusual point of view.
00:15:00
Speaker
Yeah. Certainly in in know in our version. I didn't. i was going to say, I didn't even notice that because he's in the refrigerator. So he's in the fridge, but then he closes it and he's kind of standing a wee bit closer to the the table, the dining room table.
00:15:16
Speaker
um ah Like after she screams? Yeah, and he's kind of trying to interrupt her. Oh, weird. Yeah, you can see a wall that I don't think you ever see again. um Yeah.
00:15:28
Speaker
I'll take a picture of and send it to you. Yeah, because that's weird. Because that's something I didn't even notice. I did not even notice that that looked different. Yeah, just a little bit. Just a bit there.
00:15:41
Speaker
like Like the corner? So like the wall with the With the door and then with that yeah the the a wall. the wall that you would never see. You sort of just see, i don't know, maybe a meter's worth, a few feet there.
00:15:57
Speaker
I'll see oh ohll see if I can send a picture to you. Now, is Rachel in the right here, given their relationship of always just walking into each other's place? Obviously, she is right to, you know, maybe react a certain way.
00:16:10
Speaker
But this is kind of what they do. They never knock. And your doors are all unlocked. yeah And throughout this entire thing, nobody locks doors. And that's so weird to me.
00:16:23
Speaker
Especially in Manhattan. If you're in the bathroom. and and Yeah. No. if If you do not want anybody to...
00:16:35
Speaker
accidentally walk in. You lock the door. You lock the door. Yeah, and the they both walk into each other's places all the time. so gra to me, Chandler's not in the wrong.
00:16:49
Speaker
i understand her reaction, but no. like It's just unfortunate, i think, that yeah happened that But let's see. Yeah, we go from there straight over to... well um Yeah, straight over to Central Park.
00:17:04
Speaker
great We meet Roger for the first time.

Roger's Group Dynamics

00:17:07
Speaker
um We'll see him a lot through this episode. Phoebe, Rachel, Monica talking to Roger and Chandler and Ross are on the couch.
00:17:14
Speaker
um And they discuss what happened, seeing Rachel topless. um Yes. Yeah, Ross's reaction. um You know, quite defensive, which...
00:17:26
Speaker
obviously telling about his feelings for Rachel. um Joey comes in with his dad. Oh, sorry, go ahead. Oh, no, but then he... Because that's whenever he turns around and gives this suggestion about how to make it right.
00:17:43
Speaker
You know, and that was from... Oh, that's right. And, i don't know. Yeah, just a weird... You know, one of Ross's weird moments, I think, where it's...
00:17:54
Speaker
where And I don't know if he's trying to cover up the fact that it bothers him. like Maybe. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know. Yeah. but I'm trying to remember what Joey introduces his dad as, because I know he's Joey Senior, Joseph, Mr. Triviani. Or maybe he just says, this is my dad.
00:18:12
Speaker
Yeah, but they already knew him. Right, right. They've seen him before because he knows that Chandler's funny and things. yeah Yeah. So there's definite evidence to show that he's met them before and he knows them.
00:18:28
Speaker
um Yeah. Oh, he says, hey, you, I'm sorry, I've got it pulled up. No, no, you're fine. I think that one of the funny things that I thought, like, got cut, and that was going to be one of my trivia questions, and then I decided against it, but where they were, Rachel keeps trying to change the subject.
00:18:50
Speaker
and But monicas Monica took it back to it. I don't know. Okay, but anyway, he's just like, hey, you all know my dad, right? And they are talking to him, Mr. Tribb.
00:19:03
Speaker
Mr. Tribb. quite like that. I do love this scene with Mr. Tribb where he's you know he's he he strikes out. I remember, I'd have done with all the friends. There's the wife.
00:19:15
Speaker
Chandler says something funny. You know, that I like it. And then I wish we had known more about the guy with the puppets, um you know, where he asked Phoebe or or he asks ah Joey, what happened to the puppet guy, you know, who Phoebe must have been dating.
00:19:32
Speaker
ah Yeah. um Just a puppet guy sounds something like somebody Phoebe would date. Right up her alley. Right. Yeah, if anyone was going to date a puppet guy, it would be Phoebe.
00:19:45
Speaker
um But i do like these quickfire comments that just fail with Ross and Chandler. um it Very, yeah very well done. And it makes me laugh.
00:19:57
Speaker
um ah Yeah, because... it's kind of like joey where you're saying things like you know everybody you're well-intentioned and then just oh a everything you say well we go from there up to the boy's apartment again a pivotal moment in this episode where mr trim is on the phone with what appears to be his wife but uh Then Joey kind of snatches the phone out of his hand and is telling what he thinks is his mum about a doctor's appointment.
00:20:31
Speaker
um I was going to write ask you who the doctor was, but I forgot. So I forgot the answer. But then he realises that it's not his mother on the other end of the phone.
00:20:42
Speaker
And Mr. Tribb has been there been caught. yes um and then we're still there. We kind of fade out of that scene, but then into the next scene. And Joey's dad reveals all about Ronnie, the pet mortician.
00:20:59
Speaker
um Oh, hang on. hang on. Yes. Yes. you said Okay. So right there, right there, and you know, and they're talking about the pet mortician and all of that, but you know how I was talking about the garlic.
00:21:11
Speaker
Yes. Yes. Yeah. That was part of that was cut. Joey starts starts chopping the garlic. What are you doing? Chopping garlic. You're not going to crush it.
00:21:23
Speaker
Hey, you're having an affair. I'm chopping garlic. It's a wacky world.

Cut Scene: Joey and Garlic

00:21:28
Speaker
Okay. I didn't, when we did that, bam but I was like, okay, I remember being several things on the chopping board, but didn't, you know, didn't catch that line.
00:21:36
Speaker
So that one was cut from this the stream, but not the DVD. Okay. Uh-huh. Yeah. Okay. so there you go. Okay. Well, this would be the appropriate time for my weekly comment that's exactly the same every week.
00:21:49
Speaker
I need to go and buy the DVDs.
00:21:53
Speaker
One of these days we'll make it. it's a Al, I feel like a birthday is coming up. like i know Yeah, a couple of months. I but something feel like, just hold on.
00:22:06
Speaker
Hold on. it's gonna We're going to make it. We're going to make it. Well, let's see. Joey's dad reveals all about Ronnie. She's a pet mortician. um I did a little, a shallow dive into the world of pet morticians.
00:22:22
Speaker
um I was like, is that thing? And of course, it's actually got another, I've forgotten the name now. Taxidermy. Yeah, takes some sort of pet taxidermist. Yeah, slightly more eloquent.
00:22:34
Speaker
and i was like well And then I was thinking about the fact that she talked about um you know stuffing the dogs in some ways. And I was like, is that legal? Like, do people do that? And it definitely varies state by state.
00:22:47
Speaker
And I did see that in both New York and in Texas, it is legal.

Pet Mortician Services

00:22:53
Speaker
You could take your beloved Chi Chi, your beloved pet to the mortician, have them stuffed in a variety of ways.
00:23:01
Speaker
Perfect. You could have just the skin. You can eat. You can have them freeze dried, which I don't even I can't even imagine. Can't even imagine. You have all of that done. It's all perfectly legal. People do it.
00:23:15
Speaker
Interestingly, though, it's illegal to sell it So if I had a stuffed Chi Chi, that was my dog that died and had it here in my house, it is illegal in Texas to sell it to somebody else.
00:23:29
Speaker
You can only buy it directly from the taxidermist. That's the end. that you that's It's finite. You cannot sell it again. So you better not find a Chi Chi in an estate sale.
00:23:42
Speaker
That's what I'm thinking. Yes. Gross. Yeah, pretty much. And that was the end of my deep dive into that. Yeah. Yeah, all I needed to know. that Nightmares are made of. A Stephen King novel. Like, oh, God. Yeah, I didn't think I'd ever be Googling that on a Friday night, but here we are. That's I was doing.
00:24:04
Speaker
Right. But so that's, yeah, that's kind of where they were. We go back over to the girl's apartment, which you talked about, Joey, and his peanut butter. He's talking to everyone about what his dad's been up to.
00:24:16
Speaker
um Let's see. Chandler keeps staring at Rachel, which is very, again, the the physical comedy when Chandler catches himself staring at Rachel's chest again. he sort goes, what?
00:24:29
Speaker
And refocuses up on her eyes. It you so it is. It's so dumb. It really is. ah But let's see. you know that's sort of One of one of my top 10 lines from the entire Friends universe is where Ross goes, well, tit for tat.
00:24:52
Speaker
And Chandler goes, I'm not going to show you my tat. just Just gets me every single time for no particular reason. But I think that line is fantastic.
00:25:04
Speaker
ah And then, let's see, Chandler reveals he hates Roger. You know, when Roger beeps in, Rog, Rog is here. It's Rog, Rog, Phoebe and Rog. Rog. You know, like, Rog is trying to get a little too comfortable with the with the group.
00:25:22
Speaker
He's an odd guy. He is, isn't he? He's peculiar. it probably fits his profession quite well. um I do enjoy Ross and Rog getting into this.
00:25:36
Speaker
It's not really a debate or an argument because I think Roger's just throwing out a theory, but Ross is hitting a level of frustration that's usually saved for people saying that ah you know dinosaurs aren't weren't real or things.
00:25:51
Speaker
Oh. That makes me so mad. Right. He wants to really get me rattled up as dinosaurs weren't real. Who says that?
00:26:06
Speaker
Right. You dinosaur bones. Like, what are you talking about? Right. Or Jurassic Park could happen. and That's one of Phoebe's things that she says at some point to Ark Ross later in the series. Because she just knows it'll get him. Do we think that Roger is right about Chandler?
00:26:27
Speaker
ah You know, his... Yeah. I do. i think so too. i do. i do. As much as I don't really like... Roger has played very well.
00:26:38
Speaker
I don't like the character, of course. He's not designed to be liked, but I think he's right about Chandler. Maybe not Ross, but Chandler is spot on. don't know. ah feel like we could have that discussion too about yeah maybe you wanted your marriage to fail.
00:26:54
Speaker
And then he's like, he didn't even know these people. you know right This is coming from somewhere. There's always, you know, um no You know you are married to Kate Green.
00:27:06
Speaker
You know your profession. All behavior is a form of communication. Right. All your choices, everything else is communication based on something.
00:27:17
Speaker
Absolutely. And so, yeah, I don't know. Now, do I think that, well. i I could see it. i mean, I got thinking about this again when I rewatched the episode.
00:27:29
Speaker
You know, Ross, I'm sure, very much lives his life that he wants to have. the career, the wife, the children, you know, the traditional view of success. I'm sure that that's what he envisaged for himself.
00:27:42
Speaker
But he did obviously love Carol to bits. um Yes. You know, he genuinely likes her. You know, she did something pretty terrible to him and yet he still loves her as a person we see that throughout the the whole series so i don't think he wanted his marriage to fail per se but i think it's yeah it was it was interesting to to see them sort of jostle back and forth over this subject yeah hu but yeah i don't know
00:28:18
Speaker
and know Yeah, God, he's so, and I think the thing about Roger, right, is that he's so judgmental. And that's hilarious coming from me who judges Ross on the, right every single week I judge him hard.
00:28:33
Speaker
But like Roger, like as his profession, he is kind of helping people come to conclusions and, you know, and he's done all this study and everything, but it's that arrogance.
00:28:47
Speaker
The arrogance. I agree with you. Yes. Yeah. That makes him just not likable at all. And Phoebe keeps saying he's so sweet that like we never even see that.
00:29:00
Speaker
No, and I think you're right, because even when i think he says this to Chandler and to Ross, you know, he sort of preempts his opinion with, well, I don't know. Well, maybe you wanted to fail.
00:29:11
Speaker
But, you know, he probably believes that because he thinks he knows better than anybody else. Yes. um yeah I don't really buy into the, you know, this is just maybe a theory I'm throwing out there. I think he's already decided what they're like.
00:29:24
Speaker
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. And I imagine and you've met people like that, that they will meet you, and within 30 seconds, they've already got and opinion, and yeah they that is the opinion.
00:29:38
Speaker
Yeah, they're they're already locked into it. um Well, then, Roger, sorry, go ahead. Oh, no, are you moving on to his conversation with Rachel? About the weeble wobbles.
00:29:50
Speaker
Yes. Yes.
00:29:52
Speaker
I don't really know what those are, but I'm assuming it's a childhood toy. it It's a toddler toy is what it is. And it's these little guys. My brother had them whenever he was little.
00:30:05
Speaker
And there was a commercial on TV, Weebles wobble, but they won't fall down. we Right. And you would drop them and they would like flop back and forth, but then they would always end up right side up. They were little people. And my brother had like the bus.
00:30:22
Speaker
And you'd put the little weebles in the butt and you'd pull it around. Like, that's what I remember. But that cracked me up. I'm like, that is her, like, trauma that she has chosen to talk about. It's her mom giving away her toddler toys.
00:30:37
Speaker
Her weeble wobbles. Now, on that note, did you have a favorite toy as a child? If you had to just, you know, one child one childhood toy that comes to mind. Oh, man.
00:30:50
Speaker
I really... Loved stuffed animals. Like stuffed animals. Oh, man. And there was this one, and it was a grizzly which is random and weird.
00:31:02
Speaker
But it was Mr. Grizzly. And I can't remember who I got him from. But that was his name, Mr. Grizzly. And I had a ridiculous amount of stuffed animals and stuff. But Mr. Grizzly and then this white polar bear that I got for Christmas.
00:31:19
Speaker
And it was so soft.

Favorite Childhood Toys

00:31:21
Speaker
But those, I loved those. I loved Barbies too. I had a Barbie greenhouse and all that. But yeah, ah that's what pops into my brain. but Right.
00:31:33
Speaker
Those childhood toys. So many toys. What about you, Al? Well, let's see. There's two that popped into my mind. One wasn't really a childhood toy, but when my grandmother...
00:31:46
Speaker
I believe the story is came to meet me at days or weeks old. She gave me a teddy bear, which I still have to this day. it lives in our dining room. Next time you come over, you'll see him sitting.
00:31:58
Speaker
i think he's still in the dining room. And that's just one of my possessions, the treasured possessions. But I remember for, it was either a birthday or Christmas. Uh, my parents bought two sort of big plastic tubs full of Lego, um,
00:32:15
Speaker
ah to They told me like they bought it from a neighbour who was selling it or something. But it was just two huge tubs of random Lego pieces. And the amount of hours of just spending Saturdays building things with those two, I think was two big tubs of Lego, is like a core wonderful childhood memory.
00:32:36
Speaker
um like I can immediately go back to my bedroom sitting in front of the window with these two huge you know boxes of Lego. And just building the day away. That's so cute. I love that.
00:32:49
Speaker
Now, a huge, not a debate, because we've established boundaries in our household. So in the States, there is a plural of the word Lego. Where you stick an S on the end.
00:33:02
Speaker
Legos. Right. Nowhere else in the world does that that plural version exist. It's one Lego, two Lego, 50,000 Lego.
00:33:11
Speaker
Okay, that's so weird because while you're talking, i'm I'm thinking in my head, why is he saying Lego? Like Legos. Yeah, I can't. And never say anything because that's rude.
00:33:24
Speaker
I cannot bring myself. We're weirdos over here, huh? Yeah, I think Estates is the only

The Plural of Lego

00:33:30
Speaker
way. I try in my day-to-day life to use, and again, saying Americanisms soundss a it sounds a little crass in my head, but in our day-to-day life, you've got to assimilate, you've got to this and that. Legos crosses the line.
00:33:45
Speaker
I can't do it. It will all be Lego. Yeah. that um That's like saying mooses or something like that, right? it's It's one sheep, two sheep, three sheep. Yeah. Right.
00:33:56
Speaker
Yeah. yeah Yeah. You can't say that. That's not correct. yeah Wow. Yes. Oh, a a grammar lesson. There we go.
00:34:07
Speaker
For us. I appreciate that. There The Purple Door podcast, the educational pod, if you will. All day. Every day is school day. Indeed it is. Every day is a school day. but let's see We go back out to the hallway and I do love this scene.
00:34:22
Speaker
Little side note, the the door number has changed back to 20 from last yeah last episode. Yes. and um you know Ronnie is there waiting for for Big Joey.
00:34:34
Speaker
and again I like the character. of i like the way she's played. I don't think she's overdone, but she is a little stereotypical. um But no not not in a again over the top way.
00:34:47
Speaker
I love that she has a bag of cheese nips, you which I assume. Yeah, I assume they're like Cheez-Its, you know, the crackers. I don't know. but And again, Chandler. That's exactly what they are. it cheese nips.
00:35:00
Speaker
They're yeah typically cheap it's a little bit cheaper than Cheez-Its. Excellent. Well, that that kind of tracks with being in the the little plastic bag and... Chad loves line again. I could go for a nip.
00:35:11
Speaker
You know, there's just something about it. What about Joey's having an embolism? An embolism. Yeah, but that whole line is is hilarious. Yeah. Yes. So well done.
00:35:24
Speaker
Because i even wrote that down. Joey's having a nimbolism. I could go for a nip. Right. you go for a nip. It's so good. oh. Let's see. And then, you know, we go into the boys' apartment. with Ronnie's talking about her job, which we discussed in Bamboozled. And, you know, Mr. Tribb shows up.
00:35:44
Speaker
And as you brought up, Ronnie has brought his good hair for his meeting, which they just, I don't know, there's something, it's not slapstick, but it's just so funny about having having to bring his good hair.
00:35:57
Speaker
um I was going to ask this in bamboozled, but decided not to. Chandler goes to sort of break the tension by offering a game of something. I was going to ask this.
00:36:09
Speaker
And again, i think it's a bit like the cheese nip thing. I think it's brilliant writing because there's something about the word kerplunk. that's just silly. yeah It's not Monopoly. It's not chess. It's Kerplunk, which is just a great word and suits the situation to break the tension. Do you know what Kerplunk is? Have you played that? so I've not, and I didn't Google it. Is it the one that's sort of a cylinder with all the sticks that go in and out of it?
00:36:40
Speaker
Yeah, and all the marbles up at the top. Right. And then whenever you pull, if the marbles fall, yes, it is. They go kerplunk. They go kerplunk. Much like the spirits of that room.
00:36:55
Speaker
say That's exactly it. It's sort of not personified, but it's the game version of what's happening. um And why would you in general own kerplunk?
00:37:05
Speaker
I don't know, but it's great that they do.
00:37:09
Speaker
um So let's see. So Ronnie and Mr. Trib contemplate going to a hotel. And then we see where the rules sort of reversed here, where Joey's not going to allow it. And he's going to establish the ground rules of being under his roof.
00:37:27
Speaker
um I thought that was funny because, you know, they he started off saying, well, you can stay here. And Joey's like, no. But then it's like, oh, but wait, I don't want that to happen. i don't want that.
00:37:43
Speaker
Yes, that was so funny. yeah it ah Yeah, the way Joey switches from being child to parent is is so well done. yeah um And then we go to one of my favorite scenes of the whole episode here, where Joey and Chandler are trying to sleep on the couch.
00:38:00
Speaker
Easily my favorite scene. Yeah, it's brilliantly done. Now, when was the last time slept on a pull-out couch? Because I've only done it a couple of times. Yeah.
00:38:12
Speaker
And it's usually a very uncomfortable experience, except for my in-laws up in New Jersey.

Sleeping on Pull-Out Couches

00:38:17
Speaker
When we stay there, they have a pull-out couch. And it's actually really comfortable. Oh, nice.
00:38:23
Speaker
Yeah. ah So um we have a pull-out couch in our loft. Right. so the last time that I slept on a pull-out couch was that one.
00:38:33
Speaker
Right. And I'm trying to think if I've had to stay in it since COVID or... Not, but typically whenever one of us is sick and needs to be away from everybody else, right the pull-out couch is activated.
00:38:51
Speaker
And um we it's not comfortable because you got all those bars. that's The bars will get you. We have an extra like mattress to put on top to kind of keep all of that.
00:39:05
Speaker
So yeah it's doable. but good yeah yeah if I knew the make and model of the one that my in-laws have I would give them a shout out but I don't it's a shout out to your in-laws my in-laws they bought a quality a quality pool out couch up there in in Sparta New Jersey um very very comfortable indeed but uh joey can't sleep because he's in his underwear well you're gonna you know from chandler
00:39:38
Speaker
it's so well done and and then chandler's such a good friend here um oh you know kind the talking joey through this it's not a midlife crisis by any stretch but a bit of wondering about his life and if he'll be able to settle down and um again i love the line when joey says you know you know how i see what does he say like woman on top of women and then chad was like are they end to end or like pancakes yes again just a great visual you know it's uh it's so good yeah that and then i thought it was so sweet whenever he said you know
00:40:18
Speaker
ah you'll you'll be able to do the right thing. you know Whenever your dad was wanting you to go into pipe business or whatever. know you know you went into the out-of-work actor business. Absolutely.
00:40:33
Speaker
And it was sweet and kind and supportive, but hilarious at the same time. it was Yeah, it's so well delivered. Yes. let see in this And then we kind of move into the beginning of the farcical running in and out of all the bathrooms here because Ronnie goes over to shower.
00:40:52
Speaker
um And again, I like the character of Ronnie here. she's but She's very friendly and yeah you just goes over to use a stranger's shower. um And then Rachel tries to sneak over to see Chandler's peepee in the shower.
00:41:07
Speaker
I think it's worth pointing to get at this point. I need to go back and double check, but I think the bathroom has changed configuration from the previous episode to allow for when you open the door, the shower is there.
00:41:20
Speaker
I think something has changed, but and I couldn't quite put my finger on it. So I didn't have time to go back and watch a previous episode this morning. um But I think something has changed to allow for this sort of seamless bathroom door, shower, carton, shower.
00:41:38
Speaker
um I think the shower might be in the same place, but maybe... It is. I think that I'm thinking forward to an episode where they open and Joey's asleep on the toilet with the toothbrush in his mouth.
00:41:51
Speaker
Oh, yeah. You know I think the toilet's this. I think maybe things, the toilet and the sink maybe switch so the toilet's not sort of blocking. I might be wrong on this. I could be making this up altogether. But I think and the set slightly changes um just to allow for this sort seamless opening of the shower carton.
00:42:13
Speaker
yeah but we have Rachel goes over to see Chandler and catches Joey and this leads up to for me another great line of what did they say my pee pee was in there with me yeah it's just just full of these great sort of one liners yes but again all of the unlocked doors um all of them front door bathroom door all of these things Right. And what's crazy is that you know that like there's a lady there that's not normally there.
00:42:50
Speaker
Yeah. didn And still, that would not... I don't know. Lock your doors. like I just don't live that life. If there's somebody in the house, the door is locked.
00:43:05
Speaker
Right. If you should not be there, the door is locked. Right. i I don't know. I'm right there with you. Yeah. But I guess it wouldn't be nearly as funny, right?
00:43:16
Speaker
I guess so. It's almost like it's a sitcom. There is that. Almost. Almost like it's made for TV. Almost. Well, we end up back in Central Park here. Phoebe says to Roger, know, he wants to invite everyone over for dinner or some sort I think it's some sort of event.
00:43:33
Speaker
And that's when they have to confess a dinner thing that they don't like him. Got to give some credit to them for at least trying, I think, you know, keeping this from Phoebe for a while, but they don't like him.
00:43:47
Speaker
it so Yeah, he's not, he's just not a lovable guy. no No, not at all. and That scene ends quite quickly. We end up back in the boys' apartment where we meet Joey's mum for the first time. Yeah. Where she hands him the bag of, I assume it's all food and groceries, and smacks him across the head.
00:44:06
Speaker
Yeah. And we hear this and this. Yes. And um I've got, i don't think I'll forget, because got it written down, an interesting fact about this lady.
00:44:18
Speaker
I forgot to write down her name, incidentally, but the lady plays Joey's mum. Yeah. i I really like her as an actress, I think, because I got thinking about this afterwards. You know, it's a really unconvincing argument.
00:44:33
Speaker
Like if you, if less hypothetically, a female friend of yours at any station of life said, yeah, my husband's having an affair. It's good that he's got a hobby. I want him to keep it going.
00:44:44
Speaker
That's an insane argument.

Joey's Mom and Affair Portrayal

00:44:47
Speaker
But for some reason, you kind of I kind of bought into it the way she explains it. i yeah you know I was like okay I see where you're coming from for you for this situation I hope he continues you know it's almost like she seems happier I think she sort of says that it's like they're on their honeymoon again or newlyweds again ah every day is their anniversary that's it because he's so guilty logically this is insanity you can't live like that in my head but for some reason I'm buying into what she's saying I think that might be just really good acting maybe it's really good writing too
00:45:22
Speaker
What do you think about that? Well, and I, oh relationships are hard, right? Right. And we we all, I think every human on the planet can attest to that.
00:45:36
Speaker
And so everybody has their own relationships and things that they they allow, don't allow. They all have their own boundaries and all of those kinds of things.
00:45:46
Speaker
And so I try not to like, Yeah, that probably wouldn't work great for me personally. Right, right. That's how you carry on. And, um but yeah, like whenever i listen to that, it's like, yeah, I mean, she's irritated because Joey just messed it all up. And this has been going on for six years.
00:46:11
Speaker
And she's happy. Right. And his dad is happy. and ish you know now is that really happy and i don't know but for them it is for theirs it seems to work yes yeah yeah yeah like say yeah i think it was or yeah i think that you're 100 right like it's the acting that makes it believe in the writing in the way that's written to where you can believe that this is probably exactly how these characters
00:46:45
Speaker
think and feel yeah because you're right you never want to put your own values or what would work in your relationship on anyone else or anyone else's situation but that just yeah there's something about kate green or i hope kate is listening to is listening to this because you know she came down pretty hard about the judgment that we had on the morality of That's right. That one chick that was married. Aurora. Yes.
00:47:15
Speaker
Yes. I hope she's listening and understanding. Yes. We have, we, we have, we have turned a corner. We have grown. Yes. Look at us. Look at the school.
00:47:27
Speaker
but does I just love the acting. I just assumed when I saw her that she was a ah veteran, seasoned actress, and sure enough, she is. I've forgotten her name, but she's got a huge list of credits, one of which I'll bring up later, which is really interesting to me.
00:47:43
Speaker
Brenda Vaccaro. Brenda Vaccaro, that's it. I knew she had a, again, sort of stereotypical, you know, sort of Italian and New York sort of name.
00:47:56
Speaker
But... yeah Yeah, I think she carries that scene. I think she's she's just brilliant in it. um We end up bouncing back over to Central Park. Phoebe tells Roger that the friends don't like him and he and then they find him intense and creepy, as you pointed out in Bamboozled.
00:48:13
Speaker
And he starts to you know lose it a little bit. ah Define me, define me. in Talking about the, what is it? Codependence. Dysfunctional relationships. Yeah, dysfunctional and codependence.
00:48:26
Speaker
codependent and you know i think they are codependent but i don't think there's anything wrong with healthy codependency you know i sure hope not right right Okay, I mean, Kate and I have talked about this and I'm going to throw this out there for my favourite couple, the Woolisons.
00:48:43
Speaker
There's nothing wrong with being codependent on the right person and that sort of thing. you know it's I don't think that is inherently unhealthy. but um Maybe he sees it as unhealthy when it's just a bunch of friends, but I don't think there's anything wrong with being codependent on a close group of friends either.
00:49:00
Speaker
I think that's what gets us through life and brings us joy and happiness and laughter and I think it would be sad if I didn't depend on anybody. um Sad for me.
00:49:11
Speaker
Again, to each their own. But that just sort of stood out to me. um So he yeah gets a little bit upset, um makes that comment about the big coffee cups, might as well have nipples on them, sort of ties in with the, this is the one with the boobies. It was quite funny, quite funny sort of tie in there.
00:49:31
Speaker
um And again, obviously, stop We're both drinking our own personal coffee today out of our giant mugs. Giant mugs in honor of this episode. The biggest mug I own, right?
00:49:43
Speaker
Yes, thanks, thanks. Good. Well, um and again, stop me if I'm going jumping in too fast, but we go back to the girls' apartment where everyone's eating pizza except for Joey and his peanut butter, as we've just also discovered. Okay, now wait.
00:49:56
Speaker
Yes. This was a different, that's a different scene where he's eating the peanut butter. Okay. So he might be eating pizza in that scene. But it was the one after he very first finds about it. Okay.
00:50:08
Speaker
That was the trivia. So, dang, I'm sorry if I was not clear on my trivia question. Not at all. I'd forgotten about that scene. No, not at all. oh And I don't even know if Joey's actually eating the pizza. to it I just remember them eating it on the couch. can't imagine Joey's not eating the pizza. Yeah, that would be weird.
00:50:25
Speaker
I just remember them sitting on the couch thinking a bit like throwing the the cookies at the door. is monica somebody that would allow people to sit and eat pizza on the couch i think she might but you know she is you know it's also quite possible she would be a bit neurotic about it um i don't know don't know just something that crossed my mind but joey explains that his dad's going to keep seeing ronnie his mom's going to pretend that she doesn't know then oh and his little sister tina's got the restraining order against her husband um
00:50:58
Speaker
And then Chandler makes a comment about Walden's Mountain, and I had no idea what that was referenced to at all. Wait.
00:51:07
Speaker
He said, you know, what did he say? Oh, my gosh. Okay, wait. Yes. This is so weird, because last night, what were we? I was at dinner. My brother was there, and we were talking, oh, about Walden, and then he ah Walden University,
00:51:25
Speaker
And then he's like, but Walton. He's like, I thought it was Walton. And my dad's like, on Walton's pond. and ah And so that's so weird because i didn't even think about, is it on Walton's pond?
00:51:42
Speaker
Walton. Yeah, there's, it's i mean, this Walton's mountain is in the Walton's TV show. Okay. I think I've heard that name before. I think that's.
00:51:53
Speaker
The Walton's American Historical Drama Television. So it's a drama dramas show. An old drama show. Okay. It was a reference I didn't know at all.
00:52:04
Speaker
Walton's Mountain. Oh, okay. Okay. and there you So I've got the thing pulled up that has all this. And he says, yeah, he's going to keep cheating on my ma like she wanted.

Walton's Mountain Context

00:52:14
Speaker
She's going to keep pretending she doesn't know, even though she does. And my little sister Tina can't see her husband anymore because he's got a ring with her. Which has nothing to do with anything except I found that out today. Right. And he says, things sure have changed here on Walton's Mountain.
00:52:29
Speaker
Right. So. i assumed it was like a little house in the prairie reference. There's a lot going on there. Yeah. Just all the drama.
00:52:42
Speaker
Well, we jumped from there. but Well, we're still in the girl's apartment, but it's changed scene here. Joey's trying to catch Rachel in the shower. Oh, go ahead. Okay, but wait, but wait, yeah I want to go back. And I, because i I made a note about the note ah or about the comment, um, that Chandler made that Chandler made where he's, and I thought it was so funny because, or he says, you know, whatever, um They were talking about, because earlier they had talked about growing up and their parents and all of that. Because, you know, it's that weird, like you're an adult, but you don't really feel like you're completely an adult. Yes, skipped over this. And then your parents aren't really, like, they're, turns out, they're humans.
00:53:31
Speaker
Right. everything else is that he's like, you know, if I turn into my parents, I'll either be an alcoholic blonde chasing after 20-year-old boys. Or I'll be like my mom. My mother.
00:53:43
Speaker
And, you know, because you're thinking we've already met Mrs. Bing. And so we're thinking that, you know, that an an alcoholic blonde that's chasing after 20-year-old boys, that would be his mom. Absolutely. yeah But no.
00:53:57
Speaker
His dad. And so I'm excited about the episode where we finally meet Chandler's dad. Oh, it's tremendous. Now, is this the first... I'm thinking about this right now. I haven't thought about it.
00:54:09
Speaker
The first mention we really get of Chandler's dad being, no you know, or is that mentioned? Yes. Because um in the Thanksgiving episode, in the very first Thanksgiving episode, you've kind of gotten that there was some drama and that, you know, there's more. And then as we know, whenever that story gets told every year,
00:54:32
Speaker
a little bit more of that whole story back. That's right. Yeah, they talk about the it's up the pool boy. What is it Sort of the yeah yeah the more turkey Mr. Chandler? Every year his accent gets a little better. Yes.
00:54:48
Speaker
That's right. It does get mentioned. No, you're right. that and it is That's, a bri again, it's brilliant writing. Yeah. Yeah. That's so good. Joey's now going to try and get back at Rachel by catching her in the shower.
00:55:03
Speaker
Sees Monica. Monica comes out the the bathroom to sort of yell at Joey. There's something critical in this scene that is very different later on. And I happened to catch it and then Googled it to make sure in the background.
00:55:19
Speaker
I don't know if you noticed what was in the background.
00:55:24
Speaker
Uh, no. No, well, in the background, the closet that later on in the series is very messy. The moniker keeps locked. It's open and it's very nicely. up It's arranged with just clothes, like a very nice, neat closet. It's open in the background.
00:55:43
Speaker
I'm going to go back and look. Yes. That's crazy. Again, I saw it the second time I watched this episode. I hadn't thought about it before, but then did Google it. And it's like, yeah, that's a, it's not really continuity error because it could change over the years and become a junk closet.
00:56:01
Speaker
But um yeah, I think Rachel says at one point that she's never seen in that closet. Well, it was open in that scene. Ah, nice catch. Yeah.
00:56:13
Speaker
I was really glad to catch that one. um Well, she runs over. And again, this is sort of the farcical. We're, you know, hurtling towards the end of this episode and catches Mr. Tribbiani in the shower.
00:56:26
Speaker
um There's nobody can seem to catch the right person. Yeah. Which is just, it's, again, it's great writing the way that this, this is all set up. So nobody ends up seeing what they're attempting to see. yeah They all just see too much. That's right.
00:56:45
Speaker
And I think, am I right in saying that that's the last scene of this episode? ah hu It's the last one I saw. Last one I saw too. So I think it's really funny notes to end on this sort of going back and forth.
00:56:58
Speaker
um It's a great episode for me. um So I was thinking as I just was trying to think about, you know, that's brand new information, something new.

New Characters: Joey's Parents

Speaker
So I love the fact that we saw Joey's dad, Joey's mom, Ronnie, Roger, you know all these new characters or at least four coming in at once.
00:57:18
Speaker
And I thought, well, I could dig into all the characters and or dig into one. That's something that we normally do when we find a new character. But when I was just sort of skimming over them, Again, I forgot to write that. Oh, no, Joey's mum, Brenda Vaccaro.
00:57:33
Speaker
She has a long list of credits and it still it looks like she's still acting to this day. But one of her film credits stood out to me as, and I wonder if this has to be a deliberate throwback later in the series.
00:57:50
Speaker
One of the films she stars in is Capricorn One, which I've never seen. Do you remember when that gets mentioned later on?
00:58:01
Speaker
I don't. No. show Joey is going to be on Days of Our Lives and he invites his grandmother over who doesn't speak any English. She clicks at the TV and goes Sam Waterstone, Capricorn 1.
00:58:18
Speaker
And that is either his mother's mother or mother-in-law. So she is referencing a film that Brenda Vaccaro was in, Capricorn 1, in 1977.
00:58:30
Speaker
So, you know, 15, 16 years since, but you know, before this was filmed. Is that a coincidence? I don't think, because I've never seen Capricorn 1.
00:58:41
Speaker
The only thing I know about Capricorn 1 is...

Brenda Vaccaro and Capricorn One

00:58:44
Speaker
that it was Mansion of Friends. I don't know anything about the movie at all. So I don't know if it was a big movie that I just missed. It was before my time.
00:58:54
Speaker
But yeah that jumped out at me. None of us were even born yet. Right. Okay, so I've got it pulled up right now. So it's the first manned flight to Mars.
00:59:07
Speaker
Okay. It says, when the first manned flight to Mars is deemed unsafe and scrubbed on the launch pad, Anxious authorities must scramble to save face and retain their funding, so an unthinkable plot to fake the mission is hatched.
00:59:23
Speaker
ah Whoa! Might have to go watch this movie. This is This is like the fake moon landing idea and all of that. Okay. All right, Capricorn 1 might have to go on the to-watch list.
00:59:39
Speaker
I think so. Ugh! Again, i choose to believe that nothing is a coincidence when it comes to the brilliant writing of Friends. Oh. so Okay, wait.
00:59:50
Speaker
Have we? No, this was in the podcast I was listening to before I started. ah O.J. Simpson is in that movie. Really? James Brolin, Sam Waterston.
01:00:03
Speaker
Right. And O.J. Simpson. and James Brolin. Are on astronauts on their way to Mars. And Phoebe, I don't know who James Brolin is, but that's who Phoebe claims as the is the father of her fake baby.
01:00:19
Speaker
Yes. You know, at Monica and Chandler's wedding. Again, i don't think we need to say spoiler alerts. Everyone's seen the whole thing. But at this point, if you've not, sorry. But, um yes, you mentioned to James Bruins. That's another callback to this this film.
01:00:32
Speaker
ah vi Of Capricorn 1. How funny. Yeah. I love this. This is so fun. This is why we do the podcast, right? Yes. I love it. So, yeah, we have to watch Capricorn 1. It's more homework, I think. Yes.
01:00:48
Speaker
And it's kind of long and for a movie that was made in 77. It's over two hours. Two hours and three minutes. Okay, that's good bit. Yeah, lengthy movie. Interesting.
01:00:59
Speaker
Well, I think I know the answer to this, but I would love to know your Gunther Central Park of the Week. Who's your favorite character in this episode? Oh, you think you do, do you? Well, I think I do, but that doesn't mean anything, of course.
01:01:13
Speaker
Oh. um and So, it's Joey. Joey. Joey is my Gunther Central perk this week. really I thought you would go with Chandler because of his funny lines.
01:01:24
Speaker
and No, Chandler's lines are always funny. But you know what? I really like Joey in this episode because he's so like, and whenever he finds out that his dad's doing the wrong thing, he's like, you've got to either break it off here or you've got to tell Ma.
01:01:43
Speaker
like yes and he's and just standing up being a good solid character wanting to do the right thing and the conversation between him and Chandler um on that hide a bed i think also you know yes please it's just so very heartfelt so maybe spring break has made me feel a little mushy in my heart I don't know but yes while Chandler is ah hilarious and on point As always in this episode, Joey i is is my my character of the week.
01:02:21
Speaker
I love it. Well, we're obviously both in our feelings at this spring break because I've written down Chandler has brilliant lines, but Joey just excels for me. yeah So you and I are on the exact same page.
01:02:35
Speaker
I think Chandler's lines are great, but have to give some of the credit to the writers for those, as well as his brilliant acting. But joey Joey carries this episode in a lot of ways. And there's different interactions with all these different people.
01:02:50
Speaker
It's a very Joey-heavy episode, so he's got to be it for me too. Okay. yeah Now, how would you rank this episode?
01:03:01
Speaker
Oh, okay. ah So this is not going to be a super popular opinion. i don't feel like we're going to be on the same page on this one, but I give this one six.
01:03:15
Speaker
Six coffee kills. Whoa. So it's a little it's it's on the lower end of what we've done so far. It is. it I have to be honest. Of what we've done so far, this is my least favorite episode.
01:03:29
Speaker
Oh, wow. Whoa. I know. and Just because it, I don't know. I, it's not just because one thing. Oh, let's see, Dan, you cut off. Let's see. It's still recording. We kind missed the mark on some of your stuff.
01:03:46
Speaker
You're back now. You're back now. Cut off. Oh, sorry. No, you're back. So you said to just kind of miss the mark for you in some ways. Yeah. Yeah. yeah I mean, it was, it was funny. It was fine, but you know, just if we're,
01:04:00
Speaker
talking comparatively about what we've watched so far, this one is my least favorite. Interesting, because for me, this is one of my favorites so far.
01:04:11
Speaker
i will I just think it's it's very dense with great stuff, with all the new characters, with the Roger storyline, with the Mr. Trib storyline.
01:04:22
Speaker
So for me, there's not any wasted time on on unknown storylines that are just there to fulfill her. I like meeting all these new characters. I think Joey's parents are great.
01:04:33
Speaker
I think Roger's played well, can't stand the the character at all. But for me it's for me, I've got to be honest, it's a solid eight full steaming cups of coffee.
01:04:45
Speaker
Wow. it's up there. it's up there with I was just looking back. um I've given this an eight, the one with the monkey, and the one with the blackout. Yeah.
01:04:56
Speaker
um i think I think this and the one with the blackout are maybe two of my favorites so far. well And that's so funny because I'm like, the one with the blackout is so much,
01:05:08
Speaker
so ah it's just funnier to me. And I think that might be what is what a lot of my coffee mugs are based on is how funny, like how much does it make me laugh?
01:05:23
Speaker
Absolutely. you know But yeah, that's fun. Well, excellent. they Next, I must just say we have, um the podcast is certainly growing.
01:05:36
Speaker
um I think in the last episode we announced we had 500 downloads. We're now well past that. We're slowly but surely heartling our way towards a thousand. So hoping at some point that happens and we'll announce when that happens a little celebration but just remember we do have now a facebook group if you want to join um just a place where we can talk about uh different characters different episodes all things to do with friends and this podcast it's a very small group hoping to grow it but want to keep it kind of you know centered around this podcast where we can get to know our listeners um
01:06:13
Speaker
You know, we also have our Instagram page. We're doing a live episode in a couple of weeks where we're going to record at a local cocktail lounge. So very excited about that. But again, get in touch with Listener Mail. We want to continue to try and build a community around this podcast.
01:06:30
Speaker
Next week, it's fun because i know the name of the episode we are recording. I don't remember what it's about. Like I know what when I see it, I'll remember it. But it is The One with the Candy Hearts.
01:06:43
Speaker
yeah That doesn't ring a bell? Me neither. And I'm super excited about the next one. Because i know I remember this. And I can't remember now what it's called. biz looking Is it the one with the stoned guy?
01:06:57
Speaker
Yes. yeah I cannot wait for that one. I cannot wait because I remember that one. But I'm like, what is the one with the candy hearts? Is that the mocklet one?
01:07:08
Speaker
i remember that's a mocklet one
01:07:12
Speaker
Could be. To be honest, I saw the title and I went to Google it and then decided, you know what, I'm not going to Google it because if I don't remember, i don't remember and I'll watch it this week. Okay. All right.
01:07:23
Speaker
Yeah, because Joseph was asking, he's like, which one is that? or he I was excited about the one with the stoned guy and he's like, oh, is that the one with Mocklet? And I was like, no, it's the one where John Lithgow comes. Yeah.
01:07:37
Speaker
And wait, is that that's not John Lithgow, what's his name? it's... um it's a It's not John Lithgow because he's tall. John John john love it john love itz yeah john la love it And um um I was like, no, it's that one. It's hilarious. It's so funny. And he's so weird.
01:07:58
Speaker
Again, we've discussed this in previous episodes that we have lines from friends that we'll just say in our day-to-day life and only our closest, nearest, and dearest will understand.
01:08:11
Speaker
And um um how does he do it? He kind of goes, tartlets. in that episode and we'll talk about that but that's one of those ones that goes around our house if anything sounds remotely like tartlets both Kate and I look each just go tartlets later on that episode but that sort of tells you the level of nerdiness that permeates this household so there we go over here too we're all in the same boat a week does not pass that we don't hear Joey doesn't share food right exactly
01:08:49
Speaker
Well, do you have any final thoughts about this episode before we sign off for the week? No. i'm Yeah. Yeah, all discussed. no Well, like I said, next week, the one with the candy hearts. But on that note, thank you guys all for tuning in to the Purple Door podcast.
01:09:08
Speaker
Thank you.
