Introduction & Personal Reflections
00:00:05
Speaker
Well, hello and welcome to the latest episode of the Purple Door Podcast, a friend's rewatch pod. I am one of your hosts, Alison, alongside my wonderful friend, Deanne. Deanne, how are you this evening?
00:00:19
Speaker
I am doing excellent. I am a little, i don't know, clumps, I guess. um we I sent my oldest son off to prom this evening and they look so great and I'm sure they're going to have such a wonderful time but these milestones are special and sweet and but they're hitting me hard.
00:00:46
Speaker
Yeah, it's it's tough. So Deanne's oldest son and my youngest and only stepdaughter are in the same class at school. So they've both gone off to prom this evening.
00:00:59
Speaker
um So lots of pictures were taken. i think lots of lots of dads were quite happy and lots of moms were holding back
Prom Night Delays & Marcel Talk
00:01:06
Speaker
tears. And it's it's the emotional evening. So we're recording quite late this evening on a Saturday night because we have been there.
00:01:14
Speaker
otherwise occupies shipping kids off to dinner and prom and making sure everyone's got all the bits and pieces that they need. yes. yes yeah been know Yeah, but I'm excited to talk about a monkey.
00:01:29
Speaker
That's right. Let's get a mediaia stuck into Marcel. I'm looking forward to this as I do every weekend. um Yeah, but I think we're going to have a very interesting round of bamboozle to kick this off.
Bamboozled Trivia: Friends Edition
00:01:42
Speaker
We are, of course, talking about the one where The one where the monkey gets a away. I keep tripping over that title.
00:01:49
Speaker
But the one where the monkey gets away. I believe I've started first the last couple of weeks. i So I want to make sure you start. was going to say, I have a note.
00:02:01
Speaker
Me ask first. Me ask first. I like it. Yes. So that way, if there's any duplicates, I score them off and you don't. That's what we need.
00:02:12
Speaker
Okay, well, and my questions are out of order. so Okay. yeah We'll see how it all works out. Let's see what happens. first question is a throwback. Okay. Uh-oh.
00:02:24
Speaker
What color are the wine glasses that Ross and Rachel use? You know what I didn't catch it at all, but remember they were, before they were blue or purple, I'm going to go, it's the Purple Door podcast, go with purple.
00:02:42
Speaker
No, no, they are blue. They are blue. ah You asked me this question on the one with the dog. did. And was like, they're the same glasses.
00:02:54
Speaker
And so I was like, I'm going to ask Al because that's funny. Nice. that's that That's how you kick off bamboozled. That's fantastic. Well, I'm going to start off with what I think is the most difficult question.
00:03:08
Speaker
Okay. So we'll just see. Okay. It's one of those ones, if you saw it, you saw and if not, you don't. What was the name of the pizza place where the boys are standing eating the pizza? Uh-huh. Uh-oh. Uh-oh. It's a, is it?
00:03:20
Speaker
Oh, hang on. It's a name. It's a name. It's a name. It's a name. And it's Joe G. eight asian then he Well done. That was true. And I like it, big G being my last name, surname, initial, and then Joe, for Joseph, your good husband.
00:03:37
Speaker
So I quite like that. I quite like that it was a little blend of the Purple Door Podcast family. like So Joe G. Pizza. All right. So what shoe did Marcel poo in?
00:03:52
Speaker
You know, and i was going to write that down. And there are two answers that I will accept.
Humor with Monica, Rachel, and Marcel
00:04:00
Speaker
Let's go with the left shoe. There you go. That's the lucky one. Yes. That'll work. I would have also accepted the Amish clunky ones. Yes. That's right.
00:04:13
Speaker
yeah I would have said clogs and they're not clogs. I'm glad I but got the left and the right. The left one. That's so funny. All right. When Monica, Chandler, Joey, and Phoebe all go out to look for Marcel, what three instructions does Monica give Rachel?
00:04:31
Speaker
And I'll say, you oh, no, was going to give you an answer. know that it's wait for the phone, spray her shoes with Lysol, and wait for Ross to kill you.
00:04:44
Speaker
There you go. I was going to say I'd give you two out of three, but you you you are on it today. Yes. Okay. This one is hard. Because you either saw it or you didn't, but you had multiple times to see it.
00:04:58
Speaker
Interesting. Okay. What kind of earrings was Phoebe wearing?
00:05:10
Speaker
All I remember is she walked into one scene and i remember thinking that they were quite distinctive. There was something about them. Yeah, they're large. Are they are they peace signs?
00:05:21
Speaker
They are peace signs. Yes. I did that one from deep. All right. Yes. Nice job. All right. Look at us go. All right. My next one for you. What does Mr. Heckles claim to have left in the hallway?
00:05:38
Speaker
A Belgian waffle. A Belgian waffle. Indeed. It would be great if we just stopped now because we're 100%. But we're going to keep going. We will keep going.
00:05:49
Speaker
Okay. Okay. How many sizes of pizza does Joe G's pizza sell? You know, case and I hope I'm right here.
00:06:05
Speaker
Are you going to ask me what size? going to I will give you extra points if you can tell me the size. Because there's... I remember there was three on the wall. Yes, that's correct. And i didn't write it down. I'm going to go with... Now, this isn't my final answer.
00:06:22
Speaker
It's either going to be small, medium, and large, or medium, large, and extra large. um We're going to go small, medium, large. Wait, wait, wait. I'm going to give you a hint. I'm going to give you a hint.
00:06:33
Speaker
It's not sizes like the letters, like small, medium, large, or anything like that. They're like sizes, like probably diameter.
00:06:44
Speaker
Okay. Okay. So I thought maybe I've got that in my head because I remember seeing the inches, the measurements. Yes. On the wall. I'm going to go with the smallest one would be 10 inches.
00:06:57
Speaker
No. No, I was going to go 10, 14, 16. I going to skip over 12. Which would be very just good guesses. but Okay, what what are they? That's all so it 2016 and 13. Oh, I was way off.
00:07:17
Speaker
My bamboozles has come to grinding halt. But no, no, because it would have been extra points if you had gotten that part. But you got the original question, which was how many.
00:07:29
Speaker
You got that right. ah where We got that. Okay, we're rolling. Perfect. Yes. I like it. All right. where Where does Rachel suggest that she and Ross go to when she's feeling crazy and wants to get him out of the apartment?
00:07:46
Speaker
It's the murder capital, Newark? It is Newark, the murder capital of the Northeast. Yes. Nice. All right. What was Lincoln High's
Ross & Rachel's Relationship Dynamics
00:08:00
Speaker
I have that question written down because that this this speaks to both Deanna and I's heart. know. but So we'll tell listeners that, I mean, we met before this, but when we first worked together full time, we worked at, we'll shout out to Bell Elementary here in Denton.
00:08:19
Speaker
Bell Elementary. Bell Elementary. And once a bobcat. Always a bobcat. Yes, our mascot was also the bobcat.
00:08:31
Speaker
I love it. So let me score that one. Yeah, as soon as when I heard that, it's like, we have to write that down. Yes, and I thought that too. joseph Joseph's like, because I wrote it down and I was telling him and he's like, did they even say that? And I was like, sir, yes. Yes, why yes, they did.
00:08:51
Speaker
They certainly did. Go buy cats. If you own an illegal animal, a legal monkey in New York City, what does Louisa say is the punishment for having the illegal exotic pet?
00:09:05
Speaker
ah Two years in jail and they will confiscate the animal. You are on fire. They will put the monkey in jail? They'll put the monkey in jail? Yes.
00:09:17
Speaker
All right. What's Mr. Heckle's apartment number? All right. So I'm going to take a guess in a second. After i had watched this, I was talking to Kate about it and I was...
00:09:32
Speaker
What I noticed was, of course, in the first couple of episodes, the the girls' and boys' apartments were different numbers. And I did a very small deep dive into this because there's somewhere online that says this this is a, what's the word, like a faux pas. It shouldn't be the number that it is, Heckle's apartment, if it's directly downstairs from the girls because they're too far apart.
00:09:57
Speaker
That being said, my guess, I'm not sure about this, is number five. That is a great guess, but it's number eight. Eight. I knew it was low.
00:10:09
Speaker
I knew it was well maybe Maybe the girls who we meet, these these two girls who live in the building later, maybe theirs is five. I don't remember. But, um you know, there's it his is number five and the girls is, I've suddenly forgotten, is it 19 or something?
00:10:24
Speaker
So how can they be directly above and below each other? But his is number eight. His is number eight. That's right. So maybe that's it. ah All right, Leslie, what do I have for you next? A nice, short, simple question for, well, maybe not simple.
00:10:39
Speaker
What is Louisa's last name? Do what? ah gobless spell Yeah, let's go with that. Yeah, that's close enough.
00:10:52
Speaker
That's close enough to Giannetti for me. That's close enough. You got the first letter, right? I did. I did. You play Fast and Loose with me in the pizza sizes. You get that one.
00:11:03
Speaker
Okay. What is on the Hot Girls doormat?
00:11:10
Speaker
Oh, no. Deanne froze for a second. I'm sure she'll come right back. Sorry. Could you repeat that, Deanne? I think you're back. You froze for just a second. What's on the Hot Girls doormat?
00:11:27
Speaker
I didn't notice. It's really funny because my next question is about this scene. On the doormat, I'm going to go with just the word welcome. Nope, there's a cat.
00:11:39
Speaker
Oh, I was going to guess a dog. It's a cat and then there's like some stuff all over the bottom. But I had to verify that, that it was a cat, that little black and white cat.
00:11:52
Speaker
It's very interesting you ask that question because my question for you is in that scene, there is a sign on the wall behind Joey and Chandler on the wall of the apartment hallway. What is that sign?
00:12:05
Speaker
Oh, what's that sign for? it's an It's a watch, ah like a neighborhood watch. It is exactly a neighborhood watch. Wow. that i thought that one was going to trip you up.
00:12:16
Speaker
And then this is from that same scene. What apartment number is the girls? The hot I'm such a moron. i wrote that question down and then guess number five for Mr. Heckles.
00:12:29
Speaker
Forgetting that it's theirs that's number five. What an idiot. All right. So that's some point. So I'm down to my last question for you. i have one more.
00:12:41
Speaker
Perfect. Let's see. All right. I'm looking forward to So I'm going ask you, when Phoebe gets shot, What is the theme music that's playing? ah Okay.
00:12:53
Speaker
I asked Joseph. I said, is this Charlie's Angels? What is this? And then um he's like, I don't know. I never watched that show. Okay.
00:13:03
Speaker
Is it? No, but you're in definitely the right kind of- I'm in the right time era. And it? Okay. Hang on then. Hang on. Hang on.
00:13:14
Speaker
I'll be honest with you. I've never seen Charlie's Angels. I've never seen this show. But in my head, they're in the same universe of television shows. I feel pretty confident that whatever you're about to say is is a show that I probably watched whenever I wasn't supposed to as a kid.
00:13:33
Speaker
Again, I've never seen it, but i would guess that's correct. Okay, what is it? What is it? It is Shaft. Yes, okay. Mm-hmm. Yeah, because I recognized it as well, and I fired up Shazam on my phone to tell me what it was.
00:13:48
Speaker
That's excellent. Yes. All right. This last sentence. I'm ready. Okay. What was Marcel eating on the balcony while Rachel and Ross were fighting?
00:14:03
Speaker
Okay. I notice noticed this, and I meant to go back and check, Because I was hoping it was what I saw or what i thought I saw. I thought I saw it was a bagel with cream cheese. Okay.
00:14:17
Speaker
I'm not right. have written down that it's the Belgian waffle. That was Mr. Foles. That would make so much more sense. That's brilliant. Yes. Of course it's the Belgian waffle.
00:14:31
Speaker
That's a much better answer. Much better writing. I thought that was so funny because you wouldn't. That's so fact. and funny and in fact one of our purple podcast um club members mentioned that that shot where they're fighting inside the episode did you see that i did and is i'm glad you said something yes was it veronica no it was courtney it was courtney whenever she said the shot camera work was very clever
00:15:07
Speaker
When Rachel was telling Ross that Marcel had gotten out and instead of hearing Ross's reaction, we see the argument through the window while Marcel sits outside and I will add in enjoying his Belgian waffle.
00:15:20
Speaker
But um yeah, that was so clever. So shout out to Courtney for that because I was super paying attention to that scene and I was like, wait a minute. Mm-hmm.
00:15:32
Speaker
Yep. Courtney Combs, who I became friends with through the Frasier podcast, which we've mentioned quite a few times um here. Yeah. yeah She's, she's an awesome member over there and has really started to enjoy our podcast as well.
00:15:46
Speaker
So Courtney, thank you very, very much for the comment. That's fantastic. I've just pulled up her comment. um Yeah. Talking about the shot and the camera work. That's fantastic.
00:15:56
Speaker
Yeah. You know, sometimes with like when we get listener mail or comments, we'll save them until the end. of I think it's definitely a good idea to to sprinkle them throughout this episode because we got several comments from that from listeners.
00:16:10
Speaker
Yeah, and i I enjoyed this, putting it out there early so that we could see the thoughts because like that right there made me really pay attention during that scene.
00:16:20
Speaker
And I was, you know, so i I like that. I like that a lot. So... I'm very thankful to Courtney for helping me with that. Yes. So big shout out to Courtney. Um, yeah. So that's a, that's a great, great catch. I love that.
00:16:37
Speaker
Well, why don't we just get stuck right into this episode? Um,
Central Perk & Pre-Social Media Life
00:16:42
Speaker
we start off in central park and this, honestly, I thought this was going to be a question you might ask was, um, what are the names of the all the different T's? So I wrote them all down.
00:16:52
Speaker
Yeah. Rachel, um, Tells the wrong customer that they have, let's see, English breakfast, cinnamon stick. I think it's a cabomile. Earl Grey is one of them. Earl Grey. I wrote them down, but don't think got them all. A mint medley, blackberry, and a lemon soother.
00:17:10
Speaker
But she tells the wrong guy. I've discovered that i have a It bugs me that there's people who are like in the show, like this guy that she's telling,
00:17:22
Speaker
And that to me, they would say something. And I know that when you're an extra, they say nothing. um And to me, it's awkward. It reminded me of Betty, which i brought which we brought up before. Betty made you so mad. she did The way she stands there and just waves. And I know she says a single word, they have to pay them more.
00:17:40
Speaker
Like, that's how it works. But this guy, is he not just not going to say a single word to Rachel? it It does. Apparently this bugs me a lot more than I realized until I started doing this podcast.
00:17:53
Speaker
um But yeah, we then break into the show properly. We're still in Central Park. Monica brings in... and Rachel's mail. She says something about bunk seven. I'm assuming that's like you're getting mail at camp or something. Um, didn't think there was any significance really to bunk seven, but she gets a free sample of coffee and the country club newsletter that will make an appearance, um, later on as well.
00:18:20
Speaker
Um, yeah. And, uh, she sees the Barry and Mindy. I've got engaged. Yeah. Barry and Mindy, you're made a, Yes. Yes.
00:18:32
Speaker
Golly. Yeah. No, not good. And of course, this was all pre-social media, pre, you know, all of that. We were now, of course, much more connected. So I suppose this is how you did find out about these things.
00:18:46
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. Because I know whenever we got engaged, you put a note in the and the paper, like in the right engagement section, like, or the announcements.
00:19:01
Speaker
That was just the thing that was done, I suppose, at the time. um But we we go from there, and it's quite funny where Monica and Blitza slip that she's, what's he say, she's really pretty, and then has to kind of backtrack furiously as Rachel glares at her.
00:19:17
Speaker
ah Yeah, and she was so funny for that that piece. There's little parts where of mine where Monica does things that are just funny, because then she's like, all right,
00:19:30
Speaker
quiet time. And she walks away and it's just Billy. Yeah, digs herself out that hole pretty well. um Yep, and we go up to the girls' apartment, ross and Ross and Rachel, right, they're sitting there, they're eating Chinese food and Marcel, good old Marcel, who will feature heavily in this of course, manages to bring Ross the rice instead of ah not pee in the, it's bring the, I think. Yes, bring the, not pee in the.
Group Dynamics & Relationship Complexities
00:19:59
Speaker
right. So good good old Marcel, played by a female monkey called Katie, that plays Marcel. But Rachel, she's preoccupied with Barry.
00:20:11
Speaker
It's hitting a ah lot harder than I think she probably thought it thought it would. Because she clearly doesn't want Barry, but I think maybe... you know she's still looking for another job, isn't she? That was recently, you know, she's still not quite found her feet as much as she would want to, I think.
00:20:30
Speaker
Yes. And then ah she's, she's lonely is what it is, you know, right comparing Barry and Paula where Barry was, you know, there was no heat and it was,
00:20:45
Speaker
comfortable and, and I don't remember all the adjectives she used, you know, and then Paula was nothing, but, and then, yeah. And like, uh, that right there, i was like, it's a good piece. And then Ross goes right back to being in a total.
00:21:05
Speaker
Right. Oh, we're, we're gonna, we're gonna dig deep into Ross's behavior in this. It did remind me that this is a huge flash forward, multiple seasons. where Rachel's mom does say to Rachel, and I just remember this line, Oh, but honey, I married my Barry. You didn't.
00:21:23
Speaker
Um, when spoiler alert, Rachel's parents' marriage falls apart. And I think of that, like what Rachel's life could have been, it would have been like her mom's comfortable and, you know, have the house and the boat and the this and the that that they have. And Rachel having a pretty spoiled childhood. tune um But it kind of, it it was like, it just, it reminded me of that scene and how yeah Rachel's life would have been so very different if she had indeed married Barry. But um you can see Ross is trying to lay the groundwork here to, you know, try and take things to the next level with Rachel.
00:22:01
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. And then the race everyone walks in. Yeah. Having been to a movie, I was going to try and look up, And that if there was a movie that that Hugh Grant was in at that time, but I'm guessing that Hugh Grant hasn't done any films that involve nudity.
00:22:21
Speaker
It's just a guess. That he hasn't? Because wonder if they they are pretending to have seen a film that has come out at that time.
00:22:31
Speaker
Oh, let's see. I think, unfortunately, Wilson, you might have frozen again. Can you still hear me all right? Yeah. I can. Can you hear me? There you go. There go. You're fine. Yeah, I can hear you. Sorry about that. Okay. Oh, no. But Hugh Grant, I think, always plays the kind of dithering Englishman, you know, kind of looking for love and all of that. So I don't think he's going to be in a movie that has nudity.
00:22:54
Speaker
Now, what does Joey call him? Do you remember? its He gets his name a bit wrong. He does because they they correct him and they say Hugh Grant. Yeah. Oh, man. Yeah.
00:23:07
Speaker
I don't remember. I don't know. Something. Or Paul or something. It was just some something else. Yes. Yeah. I'm assuming that they made that up.
00:23:18
Speaker
Yes. Joey's got no interest in seeing him frolicking, anyway. Yeah. Right. that That was so funny. and Okay. Whenever...
00:23:30
Speaker
ah Phoebe's talking about, you know, guns and bombs and buses going really fast. I'm like, oh, she's talking about speed. Speed, yes. And then I was like, okay, so what were some of the movies? Because I know that Notting Hill, but that was in that was after this episode aired. Right.
00:23:51
Speaker
And that was a good one, but there was no but in that one. So i Kate and I, we I love Notting Hill. I think it's tremendous. um I kind of like some of these romantic comedies where it's like, will they, won't they, and fate, and this, that, and the other.
00:24:08
Speaker
And one of my favorite movies of all time is Serendipity. I love that movie. Yes. Right. I think it's great. Kate won't mind me saying she can't stand it. She's like, why didn't she just give him his number?
00:24:20
Speaker
Like, that's ridiculous. You don't leave this stuff up to fate. she's She's a realist, and she takes control in these situations. I think it's a tremendous movie. Yeah, I like that one a whole lot.
00:24:32
Speaker
I sure do. Yeah. and I like John Cusack. I think he just plays that role tremendously well. Notting Hill, too. I think Notting Hill is a wonderful movie. oh What's the guy's name?
00:24:45
Speaker
The Welsh guy who is Hugh Grant's roommate in it. oh I don't remember. Spike is the character's name. Oh yeah. you spike I love spike. I think he's just got a heart of gold and it's just, just right. So if you've not seen Notting Hill listeners, highly recommend that movie.
00:25:07
Speaker
Well, I would recommend serendipity as well. It's just a nice little happy movie. It is. It is. It's ah a nice, easy movie to watch. And one of, one of my favorites, I think it's tremendous.
Fashion & Chaos in the 90s
00:25:21
Speaker
Um, Yeah, but we see the gang going over to, well, the boys, at least they're over at Joe G's Pizza where they're standing. and Ross is, yeah, really trying to figure out what to do and plan how to woo Rachel.
00:25:35
Speaker
have And I love, I can't remember quite the timeline that Chandler gives, but you know, you should go back to the, don't know, the 1800s or whatever it is. You know, when that last, that phrase was last used.
00:25:51
Speaker
Yes, because that that was funny too. Yeah. And I almost was going to ask you about this the menu that was behind Chandler that said, i was going to ask you about that. And then I was like, I'm just getting crazy now.
00:26:08
Speaker
Right. We're getting too deep into it. have to kind of catch myself with that kind of thing at times. Yeah. um But yeah, so Ross is trying to lay the groundwork. He's running by Joey and Chandler. We'll see how this plays out, of course.
00:26:23
Speaker
um But let's see. We go up to the girls' apartment. It's just Rachel um with Marcel. She's, a you know, watching the show. and I know there's a lot of chat about the the outfit that Rachel's wearing in this episode.
00:26:39
Speaker
It's so cute Yeah, it's... a I don't, i honestly, I didn't pay much attention. Is this something that she doesn't normally wear? But you you're not the only person to have brought this up.
00:26:50
Speaker
I know because Veronica brought it up and Courtney brought it up. And um yeah, no, it's so cute. It's that, and it was a style ah in the 90s, but with the pleated skirt and then the the tall socks and the chunky shoes.
00:27:10
Speaker
It's just a cute look. It really is. and Yes. Yeah. Yeah. So verrock Veronica. Yeah. Great look now. Yeah. Veronica said the same thing. Yeah, exactly. I'm a big fan of Rachel's outfit. So a huge shout out to Veronica.
00:27:25
Speaker
So hot Rakova. Thank you for listening um to the show. Yeah. She's good. She left us four great thoughts. So we'll get through those of course, as we talk through the episode.
00:27:36
Speaker
I did wonder what Rachel was watching on the television. Um, So I try not to look things up too much beforehand because I don't just want to regurgitate things we found online.
00:27:47
Speaker
But she was watching a show called Another World that was on NBC. um I feel like that's a long-running soap, but I'm not too sure. Oh, there we go. Sorry, we my screen just went on and off for a second.
00:28:02
Speaker
But Another World, was that a long-running sort of soap opera? Am I right? Another World, ah As the World Turns? Maybe it the i I Googled it. It it just said it was Another World from 1964.
00:28:17
Speaker
Somebody claimed that was the show she was watching. It looked like a soap opera to me. Yeah. That's what it looked like to me.
00:28:30
Speaker
Well, there was a soap opera called Another World that ran for 35 seasons. From the 60s all the way to 1999. I bet you that's it then.
00:28:44
Speaker
um yeah so So the thing I read just said that that's what she's watching, but the words that she's saying doesn't don't match at all. They're not the characters' names. Oh. Which is interesting.
00:28:56
Speaker
And then I didn't read any more. The names are not names of characters who were ever in the show. That's really weird. That seems like a strange in context.
00:29:09
Speaker
Yes, I'm not sure why why that happened. um But yes, so she she's you know gets caught up in this TV show and leaves the door open. And Marcel, he makes a a quick exit. He's out of there as quick as he can.
00:29:27
Speaker
Yes. Which surprised me a bit, given that like he you know it appears certainly that he walks from Ross's apartment and over to the girls just on Ross's shoulder.
00:29:38
Speaker
Yeah, that he's not trying to jump out of anywhere, you know? Yeah. knows where he's fed. That's right. He knows where his bread spots are. Oh, and of course, we we skipped over, I skipped over this part. um The reason Rachel leaves also is because Marcel does, as you brought up in Bamboozled, poop in the shoe, doesn't he? um Yeah.
00:29:59
Speaker
Or something. He in the shoe? Yes, poo. You pooed in the shoe. And it's so cute how he's looking, or she's the... the monkey is looking in there too.
00:30:11
Speaker
And that made me laugh. And then she dumps it on the the engagement announcement.
The Search for Marcel & Character Interactions
00:30:18
Speaker
That's right. Yeah. Yeah. it's ah It's a good, it's in poor old rates. then have you ever lost anything that you can think of like super important that's given you that, that pit in your stomach feeling?
00:30:32
Speaker
Oh, probably more times than i can even tell you. Losing things is like a part-time job. Right. but okay But,
00:30:44
Speaker
But, um, I lost my passport once, which was really dumb because I could not find it. We knew where it was and we were going to Canada.
00:30:59
Speaker
And so i had to have the passport and then couldn't find it and we ended up having to go to Dallas and like we were on a very tight thing and it we ended up having to have it paid to get it expedited and then we had it shipped to Joseph's grandma's house in Minnesota.
00:31:20
Speaker
before we crossed the border to go meet his dad. And yeah, so that was just, that's enough to give you a full blown ulcer, I think. Yeah, that'll do that's that's funny, because that's very similar.
00:31:34
Speaker
Last summer, I went home. And two days, two or three days before, um ah went to JC Penney. It's our local shopping mall, Golden Triangle Mall.
00:31:48
Speaker
And then my wallet was gone, which had my green card in it, which I needed to fly. um and just, I mean, looked everywhere at home, called JC Penney's. They didn't have it. Nobody turned it I called ah an immigration lawyer saying, look, I've got three days. You know, what do I do?
00:32:09
Speaker
you know, was going home for a month with Kate, with Lana and CB, two of our our closest friends. Um, I mean, it was about an hour of panic, and then I got a call on my phone from a number I didn't recognize. I thought, please, please, please.
00:32:23
Speaker
And it was Penny's, JC Penny's. Somebody had found outside and had brought it in. shout out to the good people. They took the cash out of it.
00:32:34
Speaker
Oh. but which So I was like, you know, but they still turned it in. um Well, you know what? I tell why, possibly. So... I'd obviously dropped it going from the door of JCPenney to my car.
00:32:48
Speaker
The guy who found it found it nowhere near there. I mean, I would guess it was couple of hundred yards away from from the path I took. So my, my assumption and my hope is somebody grabbed it, took the money and threw it down on the ground.
00:33:05
Speaker
And then the good Samaritan found it. And it wasn't a lot of money, 30 or $40, like not enough to make a huge difference, thankfully. um But that was, that was, me I mean, I was just walking around because it wasn't just me. It was everybody's trip was now suddenly, what do we do? What do we do?
00:33:25
Speaker
So I definitely have some empathy for Rachel in this scene because it was like it was an accident, careless, but it was a complete accident. yeah And suddenly, suddenly Marcel is on the loose.
00:33:39
Speaker
Monica Chandler and Joey, they come over to help Rachel. um And Phoebe enters and notes and notices that the air has a negative quality. I can't remember quite how she describes it.
00:33:51
Speaker
But she knows, and that's the scene I did notice her earrings, and I remember thinking that they were quite unique Phoebe-style earrings. But she comes in and she knows that something is afoot.
00:34:01
Speaker
um And I do love that she noticed if Marcel, because he, was it the left shoe is lucky, i think? Yes, yeah. yeah um How she comes up with these things, it's just phenomenal.
00:34:16
Speaker
It won't happen. It's illogical. L, L, left, lucky, right? There we go. There we go. I like, see, you understand Phoebe more than you care to admit, possibly. Yes,
00:34:31
Speaker
You get Phoebe. I get Phoebe. But that's when Monica tells Rachel stay there. Call, call. Spray Lysol in your shoe and wait for Ross to kill you.
00:34:44
Speaker
That's right. It's... um Yeah. And then Rachel, anybody want to trade? That's right. It seems like a good a good idea at the time. um But Monica and Phoebe go down, they knock on Mr. Heckle's door where he accused them of stealing the waffle.
00:35:01
Speaker
I will never look at that scene the same now, now that you've brought that up about ah Marcel eating the waffle up there. um Veronica did bring up yeah again in our Facebook group. Sorry, I just clicked over to Facebook and that made a loud noise.
00:35:16
Speaker
But she felt that Mr. Heckles was more creepy than usual in this one. like Why would he want a monkey for himself? Well, messed it up in a tutu dress. And Mr. Heckles, he is a weird one, man. He is a creepy dude.
00:35:33
Speaker
He is. oh yeah I think it is weird, but that that that's who our friend Mr. Heckles is. He is an odd, odd guy. i don't Do we always see him in a dressing gown? His bathrobe.
00:35:44
Speaker
I think as all the only we see him four or five times. I don't know, but he's always wearing the same attire, is yeah is our friend Mr. Heckles. I kind of wonder his backstory.
00:35:57
Speaker
like I'd like to know um a bit but and what did he do for a living... you know i don't I think we find out later against spoiler alert. I think we find out he didn't have any kids.
00:36:07
Speaker
But like what was his life like? He didn't have anybody. Yeah. And what's interesting is you know in the future, we'll spend an episode, the a lot of an episode in that apartment.
00:36:21
Speaker
And so in this episode, I was really kind of paying attention to what was in that apartment. Ah, interesting, right. And, you know, does it look the same as it does whenever we see it later?
00:36:36
Speaker
so what did you notice? That, yeah, you've got all the stacks of papers everywhere, like a bundle of magazines, bundled papers. You've got that TV thing that he's laughing about. Oh, the Joey. Yes, yes, yes, yes. Yeah. And, um and ah just, but the, and then the, the, I think it's brown, but just the,
00:37:00
Speaker
old couch that's sitting there. There's not a whole lot to it, but there's a lot of just stuff. I wonder if Mr. Heckles was always meant to be a ah slightly recurring character until he held on to all of those those things.
00:37:15
Speaker
and see i wonder But it would also track for him to not redecorate I would imagine, you know, he's probably had the same stuff since he, you know, however long he's lived there. Yeah. Which in my head is a long time.
00:37:28
Speaker
Mr. Heckles has been there. um We go back up to the girl's apartment and Ross arrives with wine and a plan. um he is going to woo Rachel, but that gets derailed instantly when Rachel, she's feeling crazy and she wants to go to Newark.
00:37:45
Speaker
um which funnily Newark I thought all of New Jersey was like Newark until Kate and I got together because it was the only bit of New Jersey I'd seen was um from the window of the airport honestly in Newark yeah no it's a you know I'm sure there's lovely bits in and around it but it's a tough place is Newark yeah um and then I've now discovered the splendors and wonders of other parts of New Jersey over the last decade um
00:38:16
Speaker
But yeah, Newark is not somewhere I think you would really want to go to of an evening, um I would imagine. But then Rachel confesses to Ross that she's lost Marcel.
00:38:27
Speaker
Yeah, his changes real quick. Yeah, I would say it becomes unhinged. But unhinged, i always think has a slightly kind of whimsical edge to it. And he's just mean.
00:38:38
Speaker
he just yeah He just loses it at this point. Well, um yeah. And then that's whenever the shot of it slipping where Marcel's out there eating the waffle.
00:38:52
Speaker
And they're inside. But, yeah. he gets and And the thing is, is like as we keep going, Ross really mean out there on the street. like agree Yeah. that i mean, he takess he's mean...
00:39:05
Speaker
in the apartment, but he's upset. Like it's in the moment. It's not excusable. I don't think the way he talks to but it's in the moment. um In the words of Kate, her comment on this episode was, I think Ross is a complete and utter jerk to Rachel.
00:39:20
Speaker
um How is she supposed to know that Marcel was illegal and that she shouldn't call animal control? I think that's a fair comment. Yeah. Surely that would have, should have come up in a conversation and that's Ross's responsibility.
00:39:34
Speaker
Right, especially if you're expecting everybody to keep it a secret. Right, and if somebody else is and is looking after Marcel, you might want to mention that, I mean, even things like you can't really take him to a vet, I assume, although he does go to the doctors, you know, in the previous episode.
00:39:53
Speaker
To the hospital. Nobody said anything then. Right. You would have thought that Ross might bring it up in conversation that, you know, he needs to go to the hospital, but...
Rachel's Quick Thinking & Apologies
00:40:02
Speaker
ah Yeah, he's got him illegally.
00:40:05
Speaker
Yeah, but Ross... Ross is terrible. He is. This is not his finest moment. So he goes off the rails, yelling at Rachel.
00:40:16
Speaker
Rachel rightly tries to defend herself, but he just... He keeps just laying it on. um but animal control arrives, and it's our new friend, Louisa, comes in. Ross and Rachel quickly pivot and try to pretend like they... you know They didn't have a monkey. It was a mistake.
00:40:36
Speaker
Um, and then there's a Monica that comes in and says, we can't find Marcel. And then they're like, Oh, my uncle Marcel. Monica and Phoebe come in.
00:40:47
Speaker
Right. And then, yeah, Marcel. Yeah. It's my crazy uncle. Oh, that's who you named the monkey after. Right. Oh dear. Oh dear. And then, um,
00:40:59
Speaker
Yeah, Louisa kind of comes in. Monica rachel and Rachel, well, she recognizes them first. um Now want to jump back over to our list of mail. Well, she doesn't recognize, it's whenever Monica says that her name is Monica Geller.
00:41:15
Speaker
And then she's like, yeah, you are. and then she, yeah. And so it wasn't, if Monica hadn't shared her name, I don't know that it would have gotten so ugly.
00:41:28
Speaker
Right. I think you're right. was just looking back through the comments, he and both Courtney and Veronica both had feelings on Louisa. um Courtney said, I thought the animal control lady was being very mean and unreasonable.
00:41:43
Speaker
Even if Rachel hadn't been the popular girl in high school who ignored her, she could have shown a bit more compassion. Marcel had never shown any the aggression and she only knew about him because Rachel accidentally told her.
00:41:54
Speaker
She could have looked the other way as long as Ross promised to keep Marcel under closer control once he caught him. um I mean, I kind of see the point there. um Veronica said,
00:42:05
Speaker
on the other hand, thought look this whole storyline was a bit too much. um I don't think she would drag in something that happened years ago to her career um no But she does love the way that this episode ends.
00:42:19
Speaker
um Yeah. Yeah. I mean, Louise, she should be professional, and I suppose she is by going to get the monkey. um ah Right.
00:42:30
Speaker
But sitting there and kind of Mouthing off to Rachel whether those feelings are legitimate or not. um no Maybe something you would when you're on the job, I would think. But I do i do love her line, you know, hey, Louisa, nice overalls.
00:42:46
Speaker
and You know? You could have just said. You could have just said, right? I do like that line a lot. And that's, I mean, ah to be fair, yeah.
00:42:58
Speaker
it Probably not since she's working. But I don't think that it would be reasonable. Like, that's her job. She's not going to look the other way.
00:43:10
Speaker
And then ah she's not going to cut corners, especially if it's somebody that she didn't care for. Right. I mean, if it was somebody that, you know, they were friends or whatever, or she didn't have these strong feelings about, maybe.
00:43:28
Speaker
maybe Right. that like, nah. yeah Yeah, and and to me it's got that can you yeah she's not goingnna do it's got that kind of New York edge to it too. Like she's just going to do her job, get it done, not much room for sympathy and just get on with it. And also I kind of imagine that capuchin monkey is not the kind of animal she's going after. you know So this is something a bit different than something to tell the guys and girls back at animal control about if you bring in a monkey.
00:43:56
Speaker
That's true. Yeah, just that's kind of the way I saw it. Maybe if you can call it on black market. That's right. Get herself some new overalls. That's right. Yeah. it's I think it's it's an item of clothing I don't think I've ever worn as overall dungarees for our friends back home.
00:44:15
Speaker
um don't think i I wore them once when we had to dress up. It was like 80s day at school. Oh, yeah. I that's the only time and ever.
00:44:26
Speaker
Oh, man. Okay. So not whenever you were. as an adult. No, because I find that ah for for me, most adults, whatever they wear, like the like you know the denim overalls, it looks like a cabbage patch doll.
00:44:47
Speaker
I could see that. Like a grown cabbage patch doll. I've got ah a good friend of mine who's who goes camping all the time. i don't know if he listens to the podcast, but shout out Roland if he is.
00:44:59
Speaker
And he wears like kind of... um They're not khaki. They're like, you know, really kind of thick. They're like brown. Are they like yeah brown? Yes. Like a lighter brown, but it's lighter than khaki. and Yeah.
00:45:12
Speaker
And then it has a little thing, like a little patch somewhere up here. Something like that. And then they've got lots of pocket his lots of pockets. Carhartt. I think that's the brand. Yes. Yep. And he wears them when he goes camping. He's at like seasoned camper. He goes all the time. because it keeps like a Does he look like an ah like a like an adult Cabbage Patch doll?
00:45:36
Speaker
He does not. Like, not at all. Way to go, Roland. Good old Roland. Roland lives out in California. we We had dinner when I was out there a couple months ago.
00:45:46
Speaker
But he keeps like a lighter and his knife and it's all of his camping, like the little bits and pieces you need in all these little pockets. So that's like his, but it's part of his ensemble, his system.
00:45:59
Speaker
He's got it down to a T. That's awesome. And I kind of looked at it and thought, I get it. Like in that situation, I get it. Now it could lead, it could lead to divorce at the green household if I showed up wearing pair of overalls.
00:46:12
Speaker
So it's not something I'm going to try, but I kind of get it in some sense. Like it sounds like a fisherman, like a fisherman's jacket. Like it has all these places for things. Yeah. Um, so maybe in that situation I could give it a shot, but and at no other time, don't think.
00:46:30
Speaker
I will share though, whenever I was in middle school, I, um, very much enjoyed wearing my overalls with one thing undone and you know being all cool like that but that was quite a few years ago that's the exact look i went for the one time i wore them i had one done one undone yeah and had a two a two-pack t-shirt underneath um but Yeah, it was, we did pretty well that day. I think we pulled the look off that we were going for.
00:47:00
Speaker
Nice. So we did that. But Joey and Chandler are still looking and they knock on the door of the two ladies whose radiator is broken. Yes. um With their cat-themed doormat that I didn't catch.
00:47:15
Speaker
Yes, and apartment number five. apart Indeed. Not Mambo number five, but apartment number five. No. Very clear that. They were having Zachary also. That's right.
00:47:26
Speaker
And I've got to say, up until he asks for a photograph, which is creepy and weird, Joey's been, again, a great friend.
High School Revelations & Phoebe's Heroism
00:47:35
Speaker
yeah Like, you know, Joey being Joey, he's, he's going be chasing these women all the time, but he draws the line. He's got, he's helping his friend and and he doesn't, he doesn't, he resists the temptation, I think.
00:47:48
Speaker
And Chandler was all about it. All about it. Now why Joey didn't just ask for their number? I don't know. can we come back in an hour?
00:48:00
Speaker
Yeah, like that there's a lot easier, less creepy ways of trying to you know see if this this this meeting has any kind of potential for future relationships than asking for a photograph or a picture.
00:48:13
Speaker
Right. Yeah, not not his finest moment, I think. um But let's see, Phoebe and Monica, they end up in the basement looking for Marcel, which I think we just see that one other time, I think, when we meet Danny and they fog him.
00:48:30
Speaker
um danny which obviously we'll get to uh louisa comes in and she loads up her dark gun because marcel is down there in the basement and uh phoebe hero phoebe yeah jumps in the way the track song it is it's a shaft that's it shaft is the theme song yeah i knew i knew it um I just, and I got thinking, ah you know, part of it in my head is how to be a good friend, but also Phoebe being vegetarian, not the wee monkeys, but vegetarian and obviously caring for animals a great deal.
00:49:09
Speaker
Um, yeah. So that's yeah a great moment for Phoebe, even though she gets shot in shot in the cheek, shall we say, in her lower extremities.
00:49:22
Speaker
Um, it's just tremendous. Um, But let's see. We go from there and then Mr. Heckles, we see him picking up Marcel. Okay. Can we talk about this? Let's talk about the arms and the hands.
00:49:40
Speaker
went back and rewound it a couple of times and I'm like, Joseph, look at this. Tell me. And Mr. Heckles always has his long sleeve thing on there. There's no sleeves.
00:49:52
Speaker
There's also no hair on those arms at all. Right. And it's a heavier set person, I feel. Yes. And it looks like woman hands to me. Yeah.
00:50:05
Speaker
and Like, I'm sorry. That is not Mr. Heckle's arms and hands. It's just not. No, not. And and he was he was there. Like... I don't know.
00:50:17
Speaker
I don't know. They should have made it him with it with the ah the brown checked dressing gown sleeve or whatever is he has. Yeah. There's there's no way it's not Mr. It is Mr. Heckle. So I'm glad you noticed that too because that jumped out at me. it me too.
00:50:33
Speaker
But... um We go from there. I do quite like it when we get shots out on the street. It just changes things up a little bit. But Ross. Because the outside, yeah, the the buildings and the steps and the porches, it looks cool.
00:50:48
Speaker
It just looks neat. But yeah, and Ross just sucks here. He just really does. Yeah, this point, he's had enough time to... And he's obsessed and all these things and is being so stinking mean.
00:51:04
Speaker
but He gets really personal and low. Like, oh, this is vintage Rachel. was like, dude. i Like, just this is a girl you're supposed, a lady that you're supposed to be interested in.
00:51:19
Speaker
First of all, I mean, even if you're not, of course, there's no excuse at all. But to go to the pendulum swings so far of the other way. Right. Yeah, like, I just don't get it. And like I said, you know, Keita is like, he's just a complete jerk. I 100% agree.
Listener Feedback & Episode Wrap-Up
00:51:40
Speaker
it's a, I just, just don't get it at all. Um, Yeah, completely, completely unacceptable. And Rachel seems quite okay with forgiving him in the end. And is still kind of going, I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
00:51:57
Speaker
I think I would have changed my tune at that point. But you know, was an accident and a mistake and I'm sorry, but you're being... Mean. yeah Yeah, you're just being personal and mean.
00:52:08
Speaker
um But then Rachel suddenly sees... Well, Ross kicks the sign, hurts his foot, so Rachel does it too. You know, again, she shouldn't have done that.
00:52:19
Speaker
He should have broken his foot and maybe that would have been a bit karma. Right. um But then they inexplicably see a guy walking down at nighttime with a box of bananas on his shoulder or carrying them or something. ahha Like it's New York, right? The city that never sleeps. You can get anything at any time.
00:52:40
Speaker
I guess Mr. Heckles has ordered a box of bananas to be delivered somehow. Which is odd anyway, but... You know, it's funny.
00:52:52
Speaker
I didn't catch it till this rewatch. I had assumed that the guy was delivering them to a market of some sort and Ross just went and paid him. But of course I was wrong.
00:53:03
Speaker
and Mr. Heckles is the one who's ordered them um as we do find out. um Let's see, because the gang, they're all in the hallway and they knock on Mr. I cannot believe this. I'm reading my notes.
00:53:15
Speaker
The gang are in the hallway and they knock on Heckles' door, apartment number eight. Oh! Oh, no. I've written down. what ah no. i Moron. Yep. All right.
00:53:28
Speaker
I will reread my notes before next week's bamboozled. It heckles. And again, inexplicably apparently has a monkey-sized tutu. um Tutu dress.
00:53:40
Speaker
It was a full-on dress. The dress. The whole thing. With the tutu. Mm-hmm. And there's... I was going to ask you in bamboozled, but just didn't put it in there.
00:53:51
Speaker
um What does Mr. Heckles rename? Patty. Patty. um Louise manages just to trap him in there, but the gang come up with a great idea. Well, really, Rachel.
00:54:04
Speaker
It was all Rachel. Yeah, all Rachel. She kind of saves the day in the end for Marcel by calling your supervisor and telling you shot my friend with a dart.
00:54:16
Speaker
Well, and she starts off without the mean blackmail part, you know? that's right. Just begging, isn't she? Or just for old time's sake. Yeah, just saying, you know, you'd be taking this person away and please don't do that to him and blah, blah, blah, blah.
00:54:35
Speaker
Trying to play on Louisa's sympathy. And then that obviously is not... uh, the way to Louisa's heart.
00:54:46
Speaker
Blackmail. She's not having it Yeah. Blackmail seems to get the job done. Um, and we ended back in the girl's apartment. to Marcel, he's keeping this dress on. He's feeling,
00:54:58
Speaker
um I'm not sure quite what the term would be, but Marcel is feeling feeling fancy. Feeling fancy, exactly. Feeling good. you Be you, Marcel.
00:55:10
Speaker
And is wearing some nice attire and has no intentions of taking it off. So good on him. Good on, Marcel. Ross finally apologizes to Rachel. it's it's Again, we don't harp on it too much, but it's not enough.
00:55:28
Speaker
The apology wasn't... was or they you know wasn't worthy of all the bad things he had done to Rachel, I feel, in this episode. Rachel still takes the blame. um And now the pendulum swings all the other way to the other side where he gets the gets the blue wine glasses, pops open the the wine, turns out the light, and tries to ask Rachel out again.
00:55:53
Speaker
Madness to me, this whole b bit. feel like there's medicine Ross could have. i had Of course, we do get a just but now you've said that we do get to that a little bit later when he goes on his sabbatical. That's right.
00:56:12
Speaker
That's the side of Ross I do like when he's... Chill. Yeah, yeah. Overly chill. But I'd forgotten but how this this scene ends. I'd forgotten that Barry just bursts in.
00:56:25
Speaker
Yeah. Declaring his love, essentially, for Rachel. And he can't say he can't marry Mindy. Yeah.
00:56:35
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. He's not, not, not painting himself in glory. He's Barry here at this point. No, he's the worst. Yeah. say that yeah Rachel just has terrible taste in men. I think.
00:56:49
Speaker
um Yeah. Gross. Yeah, it'd be an interesting thing to kind of track throughout the the series, how the kind of guys that she ends up going out with. I mean, so far, we've kind of we've got Paolo, we've had Barry.
00:57:04
Speaker
She hasn't dated Ross at this point, but Ross is certainly not treating her well, and she seems okay with it at this point. Right. She went on the date with the doctors, but lied to them.
00:57:18
Speaker
Right. She's still finding herself. Yeah. Figuring out that she what she's worth, which is obviously a whole lot more than ah being treated poorly. um We do finish this episode back in Central Park.
00:57:33
Speaker
And I'm assuming it's Monica's yearbook that they're looking at, looking through. They kind of briefly discuss their different high school experiences. um And then suddenly, Phoebe, suddenly the the butt cheek is waking up, which is just tremendous. its And that's my last part of my notes, butt cheek waking up.
00:57:57
Speaker
That's right. it's um It's ah it's it's a nice a nice fun way to end to end this one. um it's a I'm just checking, make sure we haven't missed anybody's note.
00:58:13
Speaker
um Well, there's one there's one note that i will ah I'll read out now. We'll do things slightly out of order, I guess, a little bit. But we'll jump straight into your Gunther Central Park.
00:58:24
Speaker
Oh, okay. So my Gunther Central Park was Phoebe. Right? Phoebe. about what Why? ah Because she's awesome.

She's funny. She was some good um like ah some some good comic relief. A lot of fun ah fun things. Phoebe, do you remember you're supposed to say stuff in your head first?
00:58:50
Speaker
She's like, yeah, but sometimes there's not time. Yes. There's so many just funny things. And I don't know. You just mentioned I probably get Phoebe a little more than I would ah care to admit.
00:59:06
Speaker
But then also, and who was it that mentioned the and like that she didn't even think twice about taking that dart?
00:59:18
Speaker
Yes. She did not even. Yeah, that's just who Phoebe is and that's just what she does. Yes. And that's exactly what I was going to say, because Phoebe is also my Gunther Central Park the Week. That never happens.
00:59:34
Speaker
Never happens. it's for really the reason that Courtney Combs wrote in the yeah podcast group as well. She wrote that Phoebe was always my favorite character. This episode gives a great example of why.
00:59:47
Speaker
She was willing to take the tranquilizer dart to protect a monkey and her friends. She's very loyal to those that she loves. which I think is exactly, you know, that, that was my reasoning too.
01:00:01
Speaker
Beautiful, beautiful way of summarizing her. Absolutely. I a hundred percent agree with Courtney Combs. Yeah. She let, she's yeah. loved her the three or four points she made.
01:00:17
Speaker
um Now, two things that would like to mention again from our listener mail. I've got to give a shout out to Lana Bell. She said that while it's not a bad episode, we love Lana Bell. she was ah She was there with us for our live episode.
01:00:33
Speaker
um She said, while not a bad episode, it's not her fave. And then you responded to Courtney Combs and thanked her for her input and said that you've got a different opinion about Louisa. Now, she said that Louisa was being mean and unreasonable.
01:00:49
Speaker
um which we've talked about. Now, what what are your feelings about Louisa? may Just that, like, I don't really feel like it's all that unreasonable. Like, she is she doing her job and trying to, you know, do her job?
01:01:05
Speaker
And yeah, man, if somebody was mean to her, what do you think? 10 years ago is where they're at? 10 years ago? Yeah, something like that. Like, yeah ah why?
01:01:17
Speaker
Why would she be... doing anybody that was not anybody she'd care to have talked to in the last 10 years why would she be doing them any favors while she's on her job yeah she wouldn't like and I don't judge her for that at all yeah you probably see the worst of humanity in that kind of job bit like being a policeman or a police officer yeah that's true you know you don't see and you're taking people's animals away and things you probably get kind of thick skinned
01:01:47
Speaker
doing that i think yeah but i think and i i wonder i i wonder if louisa wasn't already kind of that way you know yeah yeah i think she probably is a bit jaded just because of the kind of people she might encounter on a daily basis doing that yeah um Now it is 9.45 at night. This is the latest we've ever recorded, but we're still firing up the espresso machine, the coffee maker, and working out how many cups of coffee you would give this episode.
01:02:23
Speaker
I would give this one six and a half, like six mugs and an espresso shot. Six mugs. I like it. And a little bit of sprinkles or something.
01:02:35
Speaker
Just, you know, a little bit more, little bit more. A little bit more. I like that. yeah We're in the same area, but I've actually gone five and a half.
01:02:47
Speaker
Whoa, this is the lowest you've ever gone. I'm pretty sure, looking over my notes, this is the lowest. Wow. Yeah, this one I'm not a fan of because I can't really get past Ross.
01:03:01
Speaker
and and all of his antics, and there's not a lot of Joey, there's not a lot of Chandler, there's not a lot of Monica. yeah Phoebe's the shining point, but still, there's not She can't do it by herself, guys. She can't. She can't. She can't carry this this entire episode on her shoulders.
01:03:19
Speaker
ah She can't. and She tried. and so And it probably would have been a five had there not been some of her great lines and jumping and taking the dart.
01:03:30
Speaker
That got that extra espresso shot in there. But this, not not a favorite of mine, I've got to tell you. Yeah, I guess not.
01:03:40
Speaker
Dang. Yeah. Well, there we go. Well, let's think. bla So next week we are looking at the one with the evil orthodontist. Wait. Oh, tell me. Can we just talk? I'm sorry.
01:03:53
Speaker
We did not talk about Louisa as an actress at all, which kind of breaks my heart a little bit because she actually has a very special place in my heart.
01:04:06
Speaker
This sounds like a great way to wrap up this episode. Tell All right. So, Louisa is played by an actress named Megan Cavanaugh. Now, Megan Cavanaugh has done a lot of things, a lot of little things. She's side characters and da-da-da-da-da-da-da.
01:04:24
Speaker
But the big thing that I know Megan Cavanaugh from is a league of their own. I will say that that is one of the greatest movies ever made.
01:04:42
Speaker
Whoa. For real. For real? and And she plays... Okay, have you ever seen that? ah legalga there i'm ashamed ashamed to see.
01:04:54
Speaker
and that Okay, you have to. It's excellent. And actually, I feel like we have talked about this movie on this podcast before, but I'm not sure what the connection would have been.
01:05:05
Speaker
Oh, but I know. Oh, it was whenever Tartlets, Tartlets, that episode. yeah And I told you that he is so funny.
01:05:17
Speaker
He is also in that movie, A League of Their Owns. So Megan Kavanaugh was one of the so or one of the baseball players, one of the girls. And they went.
01:05:29
Speaker
So after he goes, what's the guy's name? John... John Lovitz. John Lovitz. So after he goes and he picks up Gina Davis and her sister from the dairy farm, they go to this like place and it's like a factory and the girl is like smacking the balls like out. She breaks the window.
01:05:55
Speaker
She is phenomenal. Then she walks over and she's kind of hunched over. her hair's in her face. And she's got no makeup on and she's holding her eyes all weird.
01:06:09
Speaker
And so she looks and he's like, ugh. And then he doesn't want to take her because she's not pretty. Yikes. And so the two sisters, ah they they're like, that's not right. She's awesome. She needs to go to tryouts.
01:06:26
Speaker
um And so they all end up on the team together. And so she's, um oh gosh. a white Marla Hooch. She's Marla Hooch.
01:06:38
Speaker
And she's in that movie. And she, her little character, gets some really cool little character development pieces. And she's awesome. So, anyway.
01:06:50
Speaker
Megan Cavanaugh. Louisa. Fabulous actress. Funny, funny lady. And it's good stuff.
01:07:01
Speaker
Yeah. You can watch a league of their own for real. I need to do, I need to watch a league of their own. And that's a great note to finish on because there's not either of our favorite episodes, but it's great that we have this actress in here that has done so much other wonderful stuff.
01:07:17
Speaker
Yeah. oh Yeah. So next week, like we said, the one with the evil orthodontist, which obviously having ended with Barry coming in, I think we know what's going to, where this next episode is going.
01:07:31
Speaker
Yeah. Um, but that's going to be it. Uh, any final thoughts? the good I mean, wasn't my favorite, but also man, not my least favorite.
01:07:44
Speaker
Not it. Yeah. Not it. It's interesting when we started this podcast, um um ah honestly, I don't have, or I'm not aware of having a favorite or least favorite episode, which is one of the reasons I'm really enjoying doing this.
01:07:57
Speaker
Yeah. Um, yeah but Even even a bad episode of Friends can turn ah container a day around. so Absolutely. Because yeah like I gave this one six and a half and I have thoroughly enjoyed ah playing Bamboozled and going through and talking about this and then touch it on Megan Cavanaugh and just some great movies and all kinds of render wonderful things.
01:08:24
Speaker
so Absolutely. Let's do this do this again. next week but on that note everybody thank you guys so much for listening to the purple door podcast
