00:00:04
Speaker
Well, hello and welcome to the Purple Door Podcast, a friend's rewatch pod. I am one of your hosts, Alistair, alongside my good friend, Deanne. Deanne, how are you today?
00:00:15
Speaker
I'm doing awesome, Al. I mean, it's summer vacation. I've had one full week of vacation. at this point and i am I am doing a great job doing a lot of random relaxing things.
00:00:31
Speaker
so i How are you? I love that. Good. I'm kind of easing into summer. I'm teaching summer school. I've got one more week of that um and then I'm off.
00:00:42
Speaker
Well, I'm off. you know I'm off for the summer but I'm doing various bits and pieces, little things here and there. um So I'll be busy but busy with good stuff. Yeah.
00:00:53
Speaker
Yeah, which is good. Like, it's stuff I've been waiting to do, but I need to work and do, you know, take care of responsibilities first. So. Yes. The first three days of this week were doctor's appointments. Right.
00:01:06
Speaker
First for George, then for Fred, then for me. And now I've done all my follow-up things for next week. and Good for you. But all the things we have, not that that's fun.
00:01:18
Speaker
but It's not fun, but it feels good. I've got like a whiteboard over my shoulder with all the things that I need to do. And it's it's kind of fun. I'm going to you know write them on there knowing they'll get done in about a event ah week to two weeks. And then I'll be able to relax, enjoy the
Pool Maintenance Success and Podcast Return
00:01:32
Speaker
It is hot enough. I did get the pool open and ready um oh nice this week. So I'm kind of excited about that because it was... The pump itself had gone out, but managed to fix that. And then some of the plumbing had broken, so i had to repair the plumbing.
00:01:46
Speaker
And always nervous. that's ah it's It's quite a lot on your plate. Like, if it doesn't work, it doesn't work, and everyone's relying on you to get it done. So thankfully, pool pump is ready.
00:01:59
Speaker
Pipes are not leaking. The water is crystal clear, and I may get in this afternoon. so That's awesome. Good for you. Summer is here. Summer is here when the pool is open. Yeah, well, we don't have a pool, but my parents do.
00:02:13
Speaker
right And they're in California. And I think they're going to Disney. I'm not real sure. My brother and his wife and meet my niece are at Disney right now.
00:02:24
Speaker
And so we are going to make good use of my parents' pool while they're all gone, having a good time. The only thing better than owning a pool is being good friends with somebody who owns a pool.
00:02:37
Speaker
Right. i feel like it's probably a lot cheaper that way. A lot cheaper, a lot less hassle, a lot less headache, all of the above. Yeah, definitely. Don't get pulled. Be friends with somebody with one.
00:02:49
Speaker
that's ah That's the way forward. But this week, I'm glad to be back on with you. Thank you guys um who were able to join us. And we've had a great time doing our review that came out just just over a week ago, I guess, week and a half ago.
00:03:03
Speaker
Yeah. Got a couple of messages from a couple of people, namely Jessica Storm, who's become a good friend of the show, who was really sorry she couldn't make it on, but has listened to it. And she just said she just loved it. She you know she knows how much fun we're having.
00:03:18
Speaker
um Had a few technical things. Groceries got delivered and the dogs barked and your computer decided to melt down. and ah Just life. then was awesome like it It was It ended up being very authentic and we just left it as it was.
00:03:34
Speaker
And certainly made me smile. And thank you, Jessica and others who have reached out. Yes. Thank you. And Al, yes, I even, I listened to the disclaimer that you put on. I did throw it me.
00:03:50
Speaker
I feel like I'm such a technical disaster these days. It's often me. And then it was just funny that it was like the dogs were barking. Kate and I's computers were giving some full back of the sound.
00:04:04
Speaker
Then the groceries, it was like everyone had a little something and it was just really funny. you know yeah It was a mess. Yeah, but it was so much fun. It was so much fun. And that's whole point. Exactly.
Friends Episode Trivia Game
00:04:19
Speaker
Well, this week we are discussing the one with the breast milk. And I remembered the main story, but couldn't remember anything like this, the bee storyline or anything on this. So was quite excited to watch it. But as is Purple Door podcast tradition, let's start with a nice good round of Bamboozled.
00:04:37
Speaker
Why don't you go first with a question? All right. So my questions are in episode order. today. Okay. Normally I kind of jump around and everything, but I was very organized with my question asking.
00:04:54
Speaker
So to start off, what brand shoes does Monica give to Ben?
00:05:02
Speaker
Oh, but it's, you can see it and And the slogan is said. Yeah, because you say just do it.
00:05:13
Speaker
Right. And is that Adidas or is that in the UK? For our UK listeners, Nike versus Nike. it's it's I'm going with Adidas. No, no, it's the other one. It's Nike or Nike.
00:05:27
Speaker
That's it. That's it. All right. That was a little more stressful than I planned for question one. Wow, I'm sorry. No, no, no, no. It's because I was i kind of knew it, but I knew was one of the two.
00:05:39
Speaker
Glad I guessed it right. All right, my first question for you. Why can't Phoebe go to Bloomingdale's? Oh, that's my question number three. Oh, nice. She's got to take her grandma to the vet.
00:05:52
Speaker
She does. And they don't really explain why. i wish they did. kind of wanted to hear like somebody, somebody should ask why and she should come up with a funny anecdote, but she doesn't.
00:06:04
Speaker
No, it's just there. So why did Monica and Julie go shopping? Or why does Julie invite Monica and and Phoebe to go shopping?
Joey's Job at Saks Fifth Avenue
00:06:17
Speaker
That is because Julie has a friend who is quitting, so he wants to make use of the discount card. Yes, very good. That's it. All right.
00:06:27
Speaker
This one, I'm 99% sure. I'm going to be honest, it's the right answer. Okay. What store is Joey Spring Cologne cologne Samples? Where does he work? Oh.
00:06:40
Speaker
And I'll tell you the reason I'm not, I'm pretty sure you only, you see the building from outside before they show him inside in one of the scenes. Okay. Is it Macy's?
00:06:53
Speaker
It's not Macy's, but it's, it's another, you know, fair is blooming down like I, and all my notes, like whenever I write, like whenever they do their transition stuff, I just wrote department store.
00:07:04
Speaker
Yes. But not... ah more I think you guessed Macy's and Bloomingdale's. It's not, but I think if I give you two more guesses, New York, you're going to get it.
00:07:15
Speaker
Barney's or Saks Fifth Avenue. Saks Fifth Avenue, there it is Because it says... We only took four guesses. It says sex and company outside, but I'm guessing that's maybe what sex is actually called and it's on Fifth Avenue.
00:07:31
Speaker
So it's known as Sex Fifth Avenue. I was going to Google that and I forgot. But um yeah, they show the outside of the building, sex and company. Okay. Yeah.
00:07:42
Speaker
All right. What you got for me? In the department store, which section is it just known? is Joey's territory. he That is my very next question.
00:07:54
Speaker
That would be from young men's to the escalator. Nice. Yes. That is correct. All right. what what i What is the name of Ben's toy that he can only have after
Breast Milk Humor and Reactions
00:08:11
Speaker
Okay. I could not understand if she was saying bunny or buddy. Ah, well, I did not look at the closed captioning. I thought it was funny clown.
00:08:22
Speaker
Oh, my God. could be wrong. I mean, that's just what I thought. thought it was so weird because I was like, why does she keep calling that clown bunny? And that and or I mean, yeah, funny. And I was like, maybe it's buddy, but maybe it was funny.
00:08:38
Speaker
Cool. I don't know You got it. you got I won't die on that hill. I will not. As you shouldn't. I'm not sure either, to be honest. this Yes.
00:08:49
Speaker
but All right. So what what does the onesie say that Susan bought?
00:09:00
Speaker
My mummies love me. Very good. and That's right. I had to remember what the scene. Yes. All right. Who does Monica pretend she's on the phone with instead of Julie? Oh, stolen your question. That's my question number six.
00:09:15
Speaker
Eddie Moskowitz. Eddie Moskowitz. Yes. I love that. Yes. All right. How much did Lunch with Julie cost Monica?
00:09:27
Speaker
That would be $53. We've got the same questions. That was my next one.
00:09:36
Speaker
Okay. All right, let's see. What do I have for you? um It's an achy question, but we're going with it. What does Susan say breast milk tastes like?
00:09:48
Speaker
Cantaloupe juice. That's my question number eight. a Good lord. We just went with it evidently. don't know. Yeah, because they're trying not make it too hard, but it's not too easy. And here we are. Yeah, here we are. It's a very good mid-level question. I love it.
00:10:05
Speaker
All right. Oh, my turn. Your turn, your turn. Okay, what is hombre's man's real name?
00:10:16
Speaker
That would be Todd. That's three questions in a row. right, I personally blame my darling wife, I think, because we're we're we're we're both in the same tunnel for what type of questions to ask.
00:10:34
Speaker
That's so... Well, my last one is hard. Okay. And my last one, well, I'm not going to say anything because if I say it's not the same as yours, it probably will be.
00:10:45
Speaker
So my last one for you is what does Ross use to chase the breast milk? It's Oreo cookies. It is. And my last question is, how many cookies does he eat?
00:10:59
Speaker
I was waiting for a numbers question. Well, I'll tell you now, Kate and I had a disagreement about the Oreos, but it wasn't to do with the numbers, and we'll talk about it later on. okay He eats, he's I'm going to go with three.
00:11:13
Speaker
It's two. Two. Oh, was just taking a guess. I would have accepted one and a half. All right. He shoved the whole one in his mouth and then he picks up another one and then and whenever it cuts back to him, that one's happy. so Interesting. All right.
00:11:30
Speaker
Okay. that way That was quite a unique bamboozled. That was ridiculous. Okay, hang on. So that was one, two, three, four, five, six of my 10 questions were repeats.
00:11:43
Speaker
right. I'm writing that down so I can let Kate know because she'll find that one later.
00:11:49
Speaker
Hey, you know what? Don't tell her because does she help you come up with your questions? She did not. ah i was going to say, because I'll send her all of mine and she'll be like, wait a minute. That's right. No, she won't. She didn't watch this episode with me this week.
00:12:05
Speaker
um our Our schedules have been kind of opposite from each other. So we didn't get to watch. But hopefully, oh, she's, it's all good. She's doing a lot of tutoring and things at home. And so she's here.
00:12:16
Speaker
she's loving that. She's very excited about it. She's having a great time. So yeah, be super awesome. Well, let's get stuck into this episode. Yeah, the one with the breast milk. We start off in the girl's apartment.
00:12:31
Speaker
um Carol and Susan are there with Ben. um Ben starts to, let's just say, have his lunch, because that's what Ross says. And Joey and Chandler are pretty uncomfortable with this. um ah Yeah, they were. They had to go stand by the spoon.
00:12:49
Speaker
Yeah, which... i I don't know. Like I could see Chandler being uncomfortable with it I don't know why Joey doesn't strike me as somebody who gets his rattled rattled so easily.
00:13:00
Speaker
but so But there they are. You you see him getting a... Yeah, I think that probably the majority of 20 something males that are single and that they would be rattled by that. That's true.
00:13:16
Speaker
i You know, as acceptable. and and And you've got to think too, This was 30 years ago, almost.
00:13:26
Speaker
Oh my God. Right. That makes me want to feel like. does. That's rude. But times were way different, you know, like and yeah the fact that Susan and Carol are so out and open and it's maybe in New York, that was normal. But where I grew up,
00:13:50
Speaker
that was very hush hush, you know, and, right breastfeing um, no, like you don't do that in public. And now, I mean, even 15 years ago, like it was not between my two sons, the acceptability of breastfeeding and public and, and they're not even in public, but I would, I, I would think that that would track for any 20 something year old male to just be like, ah.
00:14:22
Speaker
Right. What do you do? Cause you don't want to offend or be weird or yeah. So maybe you're just in that situation where you don't know what to do. Right. Um, I could, I could see that now that you explain it. Yeah.
00:14:34
Speaker
Um, yeah, but Ross just is like, you know,
Western-Themed Scene and Cowboy Humor
00:14:38
Speaker
ask Carol anything.
00:14:43
Speaker
and it's it's so funny it's so funny i do kind of they sort of regress back into being like like eight-year-old siblings you can chandler ask you a question kind of thing yes and that was so funny it was so funny to me and then their questions like started out genuine and right curious and then It was like, then you could tell whenever Joey got comfortable.
00:15:09
Speaker
Yes. got comfortable quickly. Right. The questions he truly wanted to ask. Right. and
00:15:18
Speaker
Joey. Good old Joey. um But yeah, it was good to see Carol and Susan right there in the opening scene. you know, i quite enjoy seeing them in this episode. Mm-hmm.
00:15:30
Speaker
So was glad they were there. But we do bounce on over to Central Park where Julie is offering, as you brought up in Bamboozled, so who wants to go to Bloomingdale's to abuse her friend's discount card.
00:15:41
Speaker
Now, at the end of the last episode that we talked about, do do you remember what happened at the end? We had the last episode with Phoebe. Julie asks Phoebe to cut her hair.
00:15:56
Speaker
And she says she wants to like Andy McDowell. yeah then when and all that yeah yeah Yes. yes. Okay. And so, um, yeah, because it was Andy McDowell and so she's like four weddings at a funeral and then Rachel's like, no, it's Rodney McDowell.
00:16:16
Speaker
And Andy McDowell is the, the one. Right. Okay. I forgot about that. Her hair short. Yes. as a I forgot about that. Yeah.
00:16:27
Speaker
So she got her hair cut from Phoebe. she did get her hair. I love that. That's kind of awesome. Yeah. um But she's there. She's just as kind as could be.
00:16:37
Speaker
It seems Julie is. and whatever she fixes rachel's apron oh you're busy right she just fits right in but rachel's not having it no she's not and i don't i i mean i get it ah get it feel like anybody would get it you know i think no but i do love the way who's is it chandler that kind of goes off that'd be like cheating on Rachel in her house of worship.
00:17:10
Speaker
You have such a great description of how much Rachel loves Bloomingdale's. Yes, which is so funny because she'll end up working there later. And I love that.
00:17:21
Speaker
Yeah, kind of a full circle moment for her. It's just wonderful. Now, I had a quick question for you. I was thinking about this earlier. So if you had a discount cut, let's say the discount is 20%, maybe even Because I know that's what she gets at Ralph Lauren later because I remember thinking, I think it was 30.
00:17:41
Speaker
Let's say 20 or 30%. If you could have a discount card for any store for the rest of your life, what store would you want to say 20 to 30% off? Target.
00:17:52
Speaker
Target. target Target. Because i'll tell I worked at Foley's, which was a department store. I feel like I've talked about this before. We've mentioned Foley's, yes. Okay, yes.
00:18:03
Speaker
And so, and I bought so many shoes and clothes and like, it was ridiculous. Cause we got a really good discount.
00:18:14
Speaker
I think it was like 40. I mean, it was, it was a good discount. Right. And then, you know, you get stuff on clearance. So then you'd get that on top of that and you pay almost nothing.
00:18:26
Speaker
so Right. And my feet are small enough to where I can wear the biggest size of kid's shoes. So I had just, it was stupid ah how many things I bought.
00:18:38
Speaker
But being an adult now, I feel like I would be more responsible with a discount card. Right. I feel like Target is a good, solid, responsible discount card to have.
00:18:52
Speaker
Indeed. Mm-hmm. Yeah, that is is very responsible of you. I'm so grown up now. You are very proud of you. Look at you. I'm an adult. this by target But if we could just do one just for fun.
00:19:09
Speaker
Yes. Yes. I think I would want, Oh, what is the name of that? It's it's so not hot topic, but it's another little shop like that. And it's got like Spencer's no, no, no.
00:19:25
Speaker
Oh no. It does not have the scary back room that you. Okay. Oh, we don't know. That storage has to be directed away from. Understood. No, no. But like they have anime stuff and Harry Potter stuff and, um, but all that, it's, oh, Box of Lunch.
00:19:44
Speaker
um Have you ever been in that store? I've not. I know that they have never been, never seen one. at I just think it is such a fun, cute, quirky store. And I would love if I could just blow money in there.
00:19:57
Speaker
That's where it would It would be to box lunch. I love that. But my responsible adult answer is target. Good for you. Good for you. Yeah, but I kind of like that box lunch one. I think that sounds fun.
00:20:11
Speaker
Yes. Yes. Yes. But it probably wouldn't be to Sex Fifth Avenue, which is where Joey seems to be, where he's giving out these cologne samples in the next scene. Yeah.
00:20:24
Speaker
Yeah, obviously just you just trying to make some money, pay some bills between them you know but between acting gigs, I guess. But um yeah, Annabelle comes in. um Who knows how long she's worked there. Actually, he's worked there, suppose. But he's definitely trying to put the moves on her. But the hombre man comes in. Yeah.
00:20:47
Speaker
This is a, it's it's quite a good character. Like I think this guy, he plays it quite well. He, I've forgotten his name, unfortunately. He passed away about a decade ago. um I looked him up. he had like, ah can not congentive. What's the word? Congenerative liver failure. So passed away at a fairly young age, in his forties, I think.
00:21:08
Speaker
um But yeah, did it I mean, I thought played played this role exactly how it needed to be played. Absolutely. And then whenever he breaks, breaks character. Yes, yes. This character that he's playing breaks the character.
00:21:21
Speaker
Like, it's fantastic. When he becomes Todd. Yeah. Yes. Good old Todd. Good old Yes. It's excellent. Yeah, it's funny. Whenever I see the name Todd, we'll take the listeners onto a very quick rabbit hole.
00:21:37
Speaker
When I was single and Kate and I were dating, I bought two. They're just the ugliest kind of African inspired, but kind of just crap looking big kind of wooden masks because I thought they were hideously ugly and they were like five below or some like they were these were just knockoff reproductions.
00:22:00
Speaker
Cost it maybe even like a a yard sale or something. like But I just had to get them because they were kind of hideous. And to this day, they hang in, they hang outside of the back door and they're Steve and Todd.
00:22:12
Speaker
um I don't know Kate and I gave them their names. We don't quite remember. I don't think. But they're Steve and Todd and they live out back. How funny. so You don't see the name Todd too often.
00:22:25
Speaker
But when I do, we think of the the ugly mask that is out back. so That's funny. wow Wow. What a random purchase.
00:22:37
Speaker
like Yeah, and there was no reason for them. There was no, we just saw them, yeah, I'm going to get those. Why not? And the story of them over a decade later lives on. um Steve and Todd, oh I'll need to send you a picture of them.
00:22:51
Speaker
Unless you know they're there outside, you don't really see them, even though they're about three feet tall. um there They're really skinny and about three feet tall, but they're kind of hidden. So... ah Are you putting baby in the corner? Steve and Todd in the are in the corner. Wow. Because we can't get rid of them.
00:23:12
Speaker
Yeah, maybe i'll need to maybe I'll need to post a picture on our Instagram of Steve and Todd. Yes. yeah maybe I Steve and Todd might be our new mascot. That's right. I like that. The men ma mascots for the pod.
00:23:29
Speaker
Well, let's see. We go back to Central Park. Monica comes in. Monica comes in. i think she's got two bags. I think one is Bloomingdale's and one is, remind me, which is it Macy's that has the big brown bag?
00:23:41
Speaker
ah Is that the bag that obviously says no? No, that's Bloomingdale's. Is that Bloomingdale's too? Yeah, because earlier in one of the episodes, I asked where she had been shopping that's right because it was bloomingdale's is the one that says the big brown bag that's it yes so she has one of each um and you know kind of tries to get phoebe in on this lie you know to tell her you know they were shopping for for far um
00:24:13
Speaker
just Yes. Yes. Phoebe's not quite. Yeah. Phoebe struggling to get on board with the lie. I think like she's not quite locked in on what she needs to be saying.
00:24:25
Speaker
Right. But, but she knew it was important to ask, well, what did I eat? Right. No wonder I'm not full or something. No wonder. Yeah. Like, yeah. Well, and I was like, well, huh.
00:24:40
Speaker
Like if my friend came in and said that to me, I'd be like, sounds good. And then you can say whatever you want and they're going to go along with it. You know? Absolutely.
00:24:51
Speaker
Yeah. I don't know. i don't. Yeah. Have you ever been in a situation where a friend's been like, Hey Al, just pretend like this is a situation.
00:25:04
Speaker
Yeah. I must've been.
00:25:08
Speaker
I can't think. All I can think about, honestly, is ah wish I could remember which comedian it was. I just saw online a few days ago ah about how every guy needs that best friend. And if you give him the look, then that best friend needs to know that whatever you say is the truth at that moment.
00:25:27
Speaker
And you just need to go with it. But i'm trying I must have been in that situation. That's a great question. i'll need to think about it. If it pops in my head, I'll let you know. um what What about you? Has it ever come come across your um your life where you've needed to just lie for the greater good? Of course.
00:25:48
Speaker
Yeah. I'm sure it has. But that's the whole thing. See, like Joseph and I, we've got to look. Right. right Listen, listen. Like if something sounds amiss, you go with it. We'll talk about it later.
00:26:02
Speaker
Right. Absolutely. Yes. and And, um, and your wife and I had a look like that too. i have no doubt.
00:26:14
Speaker
um But most of the time it was, what the heck is happening right now? We're going to talk about this later. Right. Put this in the vault to, to crack open. and yeah Yes.
00:26:27
Speaker
But yeah, I mean, feel like that's, that's pretty, uh, Typical, right? I think so. but kate I certainly do. But Phoebe's, yeah.
00:26:38
Speaker
No. It's taking her a little while to to connect here with Monica. Yeah, which is kind of sad because, you know, i don't know. Monica should have just been honest from the beginning. Yeah, absolutely. But I understand why didn't after watching the end.
00:26:57
Speaker
We'll get to that, but. yeah Right. Makes for a funny little scene. It does. She's trying to protect Rachel. I get it. but light Sorry, of the dog's barking, but lying to protect your friend.
00:27:11
Speaker
i don't know. and but Probably not going to end well, as we see. um Yeah, we pop back over to sex. Joey asks Annabelle out in this scene, but she's already got plans with the hombre man.
00:27:25
Speaker
Yeah. um Yeah. Poor old Joey. Probably not, I don't know. In the realms of Joey, what percentage of women do you think go out with him when he asks?
00:27:37
Speaker
I can't decide if it's all the women because he's so charming or if he's just shooting his shot all over the place and gets shot down a lot. what What do you think? I think he probably gets shot down a lot.
00:27:51
Speaker
Right. And I think he just doesn't care. do you know what mean it because it it doesn't it he's just like oh man well and then he makes the comments to that guy you know it's not the first time i've been turned down because of a cowboy or something get as well yeah it's so funny but um but yeah i i think he probably asks a lot of ladies out and yeah you know if if you and the more you ask the more your odds
00:28:23
Speaker
will go up like somebody is gonna say yes and so yeah i think i think that's i agree he's not one to get her to get you know to feel feel upset or or sad if somebody says no he'll just move on i think no or wait until the cowboy gets fired and that's right that's right and then just swoop on in um I quite like
Parental Concerns and Trust Issues About Ross
00:28:49
Speaker
this next scene. We go over but to go back to the girls' apartment and Carol, you can tell, is nervous about leaving Ben with Ross.
00:28:56
Speaker
um you know This is when you should sleep or when you can have, what do we call, not funny clown, fuzzy clown, whatever we decided that the clown's name was. Right. um and But I quite like the fact that ah Susan sort of sticks up for Ross a bit.
00:29:12
Speaker
And then that quick line, whatever i get you can't even see face. Whenever she's like, I'm actually a good person. Right.
00:29:23
Speaker
To me, you see this like this this, it's a bit more than a hint of like dry humor that's very funny. Like she says it quite deadpan delivery, which I think is really, really funny.
00:29:36
Speaker
Yeah. yeah Yeah. So good on good on for you and sticking up of sorts so for Ross. Yes. And then I also love, it's like we're father and son. Right. it's It's such a good moment.
00:29:53
Speaker
um The phone rings. Monica answers the phone and it's Julie, but Monica again panicking about lying in front of Rachel. She goes, hey, Jew. Hey, Jew. Hey, Jew. ah a exhaust Which I'm convinced is a real name or somebody, you know, there must, there'll be some Eddie Moskowitz's around, I'm sure. I'm sure.
00:30:14
Speaker
But that was so funny because she's like, did you just say, hey, Jew? Like, is it just, what? And then she's what a crazy guy.
00:30:25
Speaker
Right. What a crazy lie. But it was so funny. Yeah, here you go. But there was Eddie Moskowitz from New York. He was an actor. He was in The Golden Girls in Sybil on the Larry Sanders show.
00:30:38
Speaker
Could be a coincidence. He was nominated for eight Emmys. Might be a coincidence. No way. No way. No way. Eddie Moskowitz. There's no way that that's a... A coincidence. don't think so. I think that has to be...
00:30:53
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. It's not a big actor, but you' certainly a New York guy and in several shows, um you know, well-known shows, maybe in lots of other stuff too. But yeah, that's got to be a little, little tip of the hat to that Eddie Moskowitz.
00:31:10
Speaker
um But yeah, reaffirms his faith, which is is's quite quite a clever line. I like that one. um Yeah, we're still there. it's but it's It's Ben's dinner time.
00:31:23
Speaker
um So Phoebe heats up the milk and then checks it on her wrist. And again, a meltdown with, um let's see, you think it's Chandler and Rachel who... And Ross. And Ross, that's right. The main culprits of the yeah and the panicking.
00:31:40
Speaker
What did you Yeah. know. And it's odd. i and I don't know how I would react in that situation if I would think it was odd or not, to be honest. I don't know what the norm is. um Yeah.
00:31:55
Speaker
You know, I've only ever had like, you know, my children. It's very rare. i don't know. It just, I'm not sure what my reaction would be or would have been in that situation, but it's very funny.
00:32:08
Speaker
Well, it's hilarious. Like everything about that is hilarious. But what I will say is that that was a very strange way to test the temperature to lick it.
00:32:19
Speaker
yeah That's a good point. Because you, you know, whenever you test the temperature, you, you put it on your wrist and I don't like she was doing it up high because it's more sensitive down there, down lower on your arm.
00:32:35
Speaker
And you put that to feel if it's hot. Right. Right. Like it didn't make sense to me that she lit, then she licked it. Yeah. I would agree with you.
00:32:46
Speaker
it's Is that, I think it was, but I mean, I don't know. yeah Maybe she doesn't, maybe she doesn't know how many babies has she really been around. So she thinks that that's the best way to test it. I don't, I don't know yet. when Or maybe to get it off instead of wiping it on your shirt. That's a good point.
00:33:06
Speaker
Yeah. I don't know. It just seemed weird. Yeah, it's, i you know, my daughters when they were little, yeah, just on the wrist is what they did.
00:33:17
Speaker
Yeah, but Joey doesn't see it as a big deal. We kind of cut to the next scene, which is still in the girl's apartment. And Rachel and mon um Monica just got home by herself from having lunch by herself, having some, I can't remember how she phrases it now, but, you know, some quality time with me or just some some good time with me.
00:33:38
Speaker
But unfortunately, she had borrowed Rachel's jacket and left some damning evidence in the pocket. um Yeah, as we know, receipt for $53 from Bamboozled. um Which, it's funny, because I guess, I guess if Kate and I were going to out for lunch,
00:33:58
Speaker
that now seems probably about what we would pay. you know, if we went somewhere just kind middle of the road, of course this was 30 years ago, but also New York.
00:34:09
Speaker
Right. So can you imagine what a lunch would cost now in New York? Right, wherever they went. um Oh my God. Eating out is so expensive now.
00:34:21
Speaker
Yeah, Kate, now we we've we've kind of got it down to it. we We know a very good Mexican place that is... you the the The price is fair and the quality is excellent. So we'll go there for lunch. Wear, do share. yeah google if If anyone from Mazatlan on University. I love that place.
00:34:41
Speaker
Right. Yes. And at once they give you the little cup with the queso and then the beef. Right. And okay Kate and I go there for a little over $20 and we usually we usually have food left over for dinner. Yes.
00:34:56
Speaker
And I always think that it is, well, before we started, not that we go often, but if if we go, it's always really full at lunchtime, which always tells me that the people who work around it, that's where they go for lunch, which is my kind of place. Yeah.
00:35:14
Speaker
So, yeah, we go to Mazatlan. If we're going to go out for lunch, that that's all I'm thinking about now. Kate and I might have to go tomorrow at this rate because it's so good. It's really close to our house. It's maybe a mile.
00:35:28
Speaker
Oh, man. yeah let's let we should all meet there for lunch. Let's do that. Week after next because you'll be done. Yeah, I'll be done next Thursday in about a week. Yeah, text Kate. Let's get together.
00:35:40
Speaker
Absolutely. Yep, we'll do it. All right. But she's come back from lunch is $53, but she tries to pretend like she just went herself, but Rachel catches her and Monica can't lie anymore and has to admit that she, uh, she, she went with Julie.
00:35:57
Speaker
And I do love the way that this is scripted. It's like a husband and a wife of one has been caught having an affair. ah You know, they can, the language they use. So it's very, very well done.
00:36:08
Speaker
um and Rachel is genuinely heartbroken. It seems. Yeah. Yeah. You know, is' is she's not, doesn't come across as mad to necessarily. It's just, is upset.
00:36:21
Speaker
Feels a bit, a bit betrayed. um But yeah, they don't resolve this at that moment in time. They're definitely upset with each other.
00:36:32
Speaker
Yeah. But let's see, we're still in the girl's apartment in the next scene. And I love the fact that chandlet Chandler and Ross, right, they're kind of asleep on the side of they the playpen, whatever it is that Ben is asleep in.
00:36:47
Speaker
um And just, again, and a lovely bit of physical comedy when Carol and Susan open the door and they kind of startle awake. Yes. Well, okay.
00:36:59
Speaker
Did you catch that Monica was on the phone with the cafe, um, with central perk? No, I don't think I caught that.
00:37:10
Speaker
Yeah. She was calling because she's trying to find Rachel cause Rachel left. Well, and so then she's on the phone with Joanne at and she was like, I just wanted to check and see if she was there.
00:37:22
Speaker
And she's, I can't believe you. Well, it's what I imagined she said, you know, cause we only hear Monica's side, but, um, but ah she, um, you know, i that was terrible that you did that to her.
00:37:39
Speaker
And if she was like, well, okay, I just need to know if she's there. And she's like, well, Steve is not happy either. And so it's like, I imagine that those are random people she works with at the, at Central Park.
00:37:50
Speaker
I wonder if that was cut out of the stream. stream Oh, I don't know. But you've just revealed, that's big news, that as I told you a few minutes ago, my masks outside are Steve and Todd. So this episode gets Steve and Todd. Oh my gosh.
00:38:08
Speaker
Wow. It it is. It's our new, it's it's the new mascot. They're the new mascots. That's it. I will send you i um put send you a picture and post a picture later on. Yes.
00:38:19
Speaker
Yes. Whenever we go live before this episode comes out. Yes. We need to go live with them in the background. We'll show you Steve and Todd. Absolutely. there you go We'll do that.
00:38:30
Speaker
That's a good idea. ah like it. Uh-huh. But yeah, Carol and Susan show back up and they continue the breast milk. I've written down they continue the breast milk discussion. quite Can't quite remember.
00:38:41
Speaker
Oh, that's right. Ross is going to, he's going to blow up, you know, or like he's going to, he's going to try it. And I do like this scene as well. um Because you think he's going to do it. and he's like, pass me the towel.
00:38:53
Speaker
And rubs it off and, you know, throws it on the ground. And then he leaves. And did you notice where he goes? I thought you went to Monica's bedroom. Okay. That's what I wrote down in my notes.
00:39:04
Speaker
Yeah. but I was, I, I thought that was so weird. Yeah. Why is he going in there? okay. So I was fast forwarding to whenever they get trapped in the bedroom.
00:39:17
Speaker
Yes. And, ah you know, because Monica, or I mean, Rachel and Ross are fighting. And so everybody's in the, and, and they are in Monica's room. And so that is, that's right. Yes. Yes.
00:39:31
Speaker
Yeah, it's odd. Maybe he was just kind of meant to sort of exit the shot and something that kind of got left in. um Yeah, why would he go in there? It doesn't make too much sense.
00:39:43
Speaker
um But, okay, and another piece, Susan was actually pretty funny in this episode because whenever she sits down and as she and the Carol says, you know, so my breast milk is gross?
00:39:57
Speaker
and Susan like crosses her legs. Yes. It's kind dry issue that I like and she she delivers it well. um A couple great lines from her.
00:40:10
Speaker
Yes. um And I think it's interesting. I like how well, well, I would, she and Ross don't get on, I guess. We don't really see them interacting too much, but she's clearly not got anything against Ross.
00:40:24
Speaker
um i don't know maybe she has a company you shouldn't she shouldn't at all and i'm still on the that they manipulated him into having yeah and i know she shouldn't have anything against him no she shouldn't it's nice to see that they've come out the other side of this um because yeah she was ah wasn't wasn't her biggest fan in the beginning um that you have Ross yeah walks away.
00:40:52
Speaker
um And then we we do come to, I think my favorite scene of this whole episode. I think it's the only time we are in the boys apartment where Joey walks in head to toe,
00:41:04
Speaker
Like he's, you know, he's in the white cowboy outfit. Yes, I love this scene. This scene, again, just acting like they're in an old saloon in, I don't know, Tombstone, Arizona, the way they slide the juice.
00:41:20
Speaker
Yes, and he's poured it from the box into the glass. Yes. and the the The towel over the shoulder, all of it, all of it's so well done. um This is definitely my favorite scene of this whole episode.
00:41:36
Speaker
Yes, it's a good one. It's so well done. Kitty. That's right. she'll She'll sort you out, Miss Kitty. It's so, so good.
00:41:47
Speaker
um Now we go to Central Park and I was going to check on IMDb and haven't. This might be the first time we see the outside of Central Park.
00:41:58
Speaker
um I don't know if we've seen it before. And I didn't think about it other than the fact that I rewound this scene. because they have like a a scheduling board outside and you could only see two things. i was going to ask you this, but it was too tricky for bamboozled on Wednesday, Phoebe buffet plays on Wednesday evenings on Tuesday. They have poetry night, um, at central park. Those are the only two I think you can see on the board, but then I got thinking.
00:42:27
Speaker
Yes. Okay. So no, we've seen the outside of central park before. Okay. Because there was like a USA Today um newspaper holder thing whenever they were standing outside going inside.
00:42:45
Speaker
um all that rings a bell. Yeah, I can't quite remember when it is, but that does ring a bell. Yeah, but there's two characters that are outside and they're talking and then they go inside.
00:42:58
Speaker
it's just briefly, but it's just a brick outside with the, window there. That's right. So now I want to go back and watch because that doesn't even like, I don't, I don't remember that at all.
00:43:14
Speaker
Right. It's like seeing anything outside. Yeah. Like a shot from the outside or is anybody outside? so yeah, it's shot from the outside and it's where Monica and Rachel start talking.
00:43:30
Speaker
I can't remember exactly what they say, but then they kind of continue the argument in inside. um Like Rachel's maybe putting up the sandwich board thing. that said I'm not sure what she's doing.
00:43:42
Speaker
Yeah. yeah Yeah. was i could be wrong. i just couldn't. No, I don't think you are. i don't think you are. But now i I'm going to go back and look.
00:43:53
Speaker
Yeah. Because that, yeah, this is, then I'm like, what is she doing? And then she went and followed her in that she was working. Yeah, she followed her in and then they kind of have their moment where they, especially Rachel, lets her guard down a bit and explains why yeah whole thing's upsetting her.
00:44:12
Speaker
you know Rachel probably should have handled it differently, I guess, but I've got a lot of sympathy for her. you know She's dealing with a lot of emotions for the first time, I suspect. ah You're going through these things. Again, she's she's had a pretty privileged life.
00:44:29
Speaker
um you know She says at some point you know she's never asked a guy out and he said no or either things like that. um Pretty sheltered. so you know yeah She's dealing with a lot of things.
00:44:41
Speaker
and that maybe other people would have dealt with as a teenager or something. So definitely have some some time for Rachel in this moment. But they cry and they make up. And Phoebe jumps in for the hugs as well. you know she see She doesn't want to feel left out.
00:44:57
Speaker
um Well, she's so funny. I know this has nothing to do with me, but... Right. so I'm jumping in anyway. Yeah. So sweet. As she should.
00:45:08
Speaker
We go back over to sex. and Joey and the ombre guy are going to have the standoff. yeah I love the music. I love the way they kind of set this up with this Western theme. And ombre man sprays the customer of right in the eyes.
00:45:24
Speaker
Yes. And the only reason Joey's malfunction. That's right. Like his gun jam. Divine intervention. Oh, God. Yeah, it's so well played out, like a scene from the OK Corral.
00:45:38
Speaker
Yeah. I love it. But then, so so we find out that his name is Todd, and he's basically fired at that. I'm such a doofus. A doofus, old Todd.
00:45:50
Speaker
But how long has Joey been at work before he decides to take Annabelle for a cup of coffee? I mean, a matter of seconds, and he's already taken a break. Right. Right.
00:46:01
Speaker
Right. right Right. And I love the story. I love way they have that sunset on the wall. Yeah. And they're playing the music as they're riding off into the sunset. Yeah. They go get their coffee now that the store is open.
00:46:15
Speaker
Yeah. I just love that the doors have been opened for seconds and he's all right. Yeah, let's go for a coffee. You know, let's let's not worry about that. So I kind of love it. um We go back over to Central Park. Rachel and Julie are on the couch and Rachel thinks that they should get to know each other.
00:46:34
Speaker
I thought this was a really cool thing of Rachel because she could have kind of glossed over things when Julie said, you know, I kind of got the feeling you didn't like me. You know would been very easy for Rachel to go, oh, no, no, I've always liked you. I'm just...
00:46:48
Speaker
shy or quiet but she kind of admits it you know or she does admit it she says you know you're not wrong she does it like that's that's to me shows some growth you know she wants to deal with this um because julie herself is really not the problem um it's the situation and i i you know kudos as they say to to rachel for this i think um But yeah, Julie invites her to a movie sometime, but then I think Rachel does then say something else under her breath.
00:47:19
Speaker
Yeah, she does. Yeah, she kind of goes back. Yeah. yeah Yeah, manipulative. Yeah, that's right. and That's right. That's a funny one because she's, I don't think she's just being nice to her face because she did have that difficult conversation.
00:47:35
Speaker
So I don't know, maybe she's just wrestling with the fact that she knows she's a nice person, but doesn't want to like her. Yeah. Absolutely. absolutely Absolutely.
00:47:47
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, I get that. Like, yeah, it's tricky, yeah tricky situation. But then we end this episode. We're back in the girl's apartment and Ross finally tries the breast milk. He plucks up the courage, um, gives it shot, chases it with ah the Oreo and a half, as you said.
00:48:06
Speaker
yeah um And I will say, so this is where, I'm going to note this time down for a reason, I'll tell you in a second.
Oreo Cookies Discussion and Trivia
00:48:13
Speaker
um I thought they were mint Oreos. I was sure those Oreos were green, which in my head was a mint Oreo. Mint Oreo, right.
00:48:22
Speaker
But then Kate said, you know, she's like, I don't think they had mint Oreos in the early 90s. I think those are a more recent thing. Like not brand new, but not 30 years old.
00:48:35
Speaker
So, of course, I then Googled Oreos and this led me down a bit of a rabbit hole. But ah before I tell you the fascinating information I found out about Oreos, a quick shout out to my good friend Derek Lugo.
00:48:48
Speaker
um He is currently hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, which essentially goes from the the border of California and Mexico up to Canada. He is on the trail. He is Oreo obsessed.
00:49:01
Speaker
He won't mind me saying all Oreos, Post Malone Oreos, the double stuffed Oreos. He's a vegan and that's like his special treat. You can you know, they are vegan friendly food. He loves a good Oreo, anything about them.
00:49:14
Speaker
So this section of brand new information is in his honor as he is currently hiking through California somewhere in the Sierra mountains. How awesome. Yeah.
00:49:25
Speaker
he's He's a published author. He's written a really cool book called The Unlikely Thru Hiker. um If you just Google The Unlikely Thru Hiker, you'll find his book. um Super, super cool.
00:49:37
Speaker
But um yeah, I thought they were mint. Kate disagreed, not because she didn't think they were green or I was miss you know wasn't seeing it, but just because of the date. um So, and here's another thing that I wanted to, I thought was quite funny because I looked up the name Oreo.
00:49:52
Speaker
ah Where did it come from? Nobody really knows. There's several different theories, including one coming from the French one that means gold because the tin that they used to come in was a gold tin.
00:50:04
Speaker
or though what the Greek word oros, which means mountain. But these are all just like weird theories. You mountain doesn't make sense, but it's just a very similar word. um I assumed, oh, something to do with the fact they're round.
00:50:17
Speaker
ah But it was, here's something I didn't know. The Oreo was first developed and produced by the National Biscuit Company, which later got abbreviated to Nabisco, and that's where that comes from, 1912 in Chelsea, New york um And it's it's located on 9th Avenue between 15th and 16th Street.
00:50:40
Speaker
And this that area of the street has actually been renamed Aureo Way. In 2002, they ceremoniously renamed it Oreo Way, which I kind of liked.
00:50:51
Speaker
But by 2017, more than 40 billion Oreos were being produced annually in 18 different countries. And I ended up going on this down this rabbit hole of all the flavors that have ever been produced. And don't worry, I'm not going to bore you with all of those.
00:51:07
Speaker
But some of the more interesting limited edition ones were Reese's peanut butter ones, um Swedish fish Oreos, right um peeps oreos cinnamon roll oreos and there were so many other limited edition ones um that were just done for promotional purposes so i found that kind of i ended up looking at this for like 30 minutes um the history of the humble oreo yeah well and whenever i happen into walmart and i'll see like a new kind or something like that sometimes i'll pick up a bag
00:51:44
Speaker
Oreos don't last but two days in our house because yeah with the boys and Joseph, they, it's gone. and We bought Selena Gomez Oreos this week.
00:51:56
Speaker
How were those? They taste like cinnamon. interesting there's a very funny comedy sketch out there i'll need to find it and send it to you about a guy who is a stand-up comedian he loves oreos but he made the mistake of reading the serving size which is like two oreos and he's like that's why i eat on the way to the couch to eat oreos it's really really well done i'll need to find and send it to you that's funny yeah yeah but uh share it with the boys yeah Now, am I right in saying, maybe before we got in the air, you said that you did a little research into
Health Benefits of Breast Milk
00:52:31
Speaker
something. Oh, that's right.
00:52:32
Speaker
Oh, I did. Yes. I did. About the health benefits of breast milk. Yeah, and I know nothing other than they make soap or some things. That's it. So I'd love for you to tell Okay. So, ah you know, um people who have had babies know that yeah it'll, like the chances of having obesity or asthma, type 1 diabetes, things like that.
00:52:56
Speaker
uh, go down dramatically through that. But then there's this whole other situation where breast milk is used for adults, um, with eczema, which would explain your soap thing.
00:53:13
Speaker
impact But it'll also, and then if ingested, it's supposed to help with adult immune system and then your gut health. But, um,
00:53:25
Speaker
A lot of, you know, that's frowned upon because if you are buying there, there are places to buy breast milk online, like where you can go and purchase breast milk that people have expressed in and put online to sell.
00:53:42
Speaker
But whenever you're doing things like that, then you don't necessarily know what it is that you're getting. So that's like, you know, i guess frowned upon or not. uh you know i whatever the word is right but that the eczema and the um and other like skin ailments of breast milk interesting it kind of makes sense like it kind of yeah um yeah there you go yeah
00:54:13
Speaker
And then in some, if if you start running down a rabbit hole, you'll find people who have said that, you know, there's ah certain tumors and certain types of cancers and things like that, that it can help correct.
00:54:27
Speaker
But yeah, I'm kind of inclined to believe all that stuff. Like the solutions to some of our big medical ailments in society have an easy solution that can be found in the natural world. but Well, it's a lot cheaper that way.
00:54:42
Speaker
That's right. there's not money There's no money to be made, which is yeah a whole other thing we could discuss. no But what about your Gunther Central perk? Where did you land this week?
00:54:54
Speaker
Okay. So my Gunther Central perk this week was Monica. And i you know I don't like that she lied at the first, but you know she's in a hard place and she just kind of landed in it.
00:55:10
Speaker
You know, she's just trying to be nice and normal and, you know, and and then it it was hilarious. And it's it's one of those um episodes where like whenever her and Rachel are having this scene and they're like, oh, she asks her, did you go to Bloomingdale's? And she like covers her mouth and it's so funny.
00:55:33
Speaker
It's so good. So anyway, Monica is my. like that's it. That's a good, good choice. She was my second. um Slightly controversial. I think this is playing within the the fictitious rules we have.
00:55:46
Speaker
But I'm going with Susan. Okay. oh Okay. She's not in it much, but I like the fact that she sticks up for Ross a bit. And it was bang for the buck in terms of lines. She only has a couple of lines, but I think they're really funny.
00:56:01
Speaker
ah They're either funny or good. Like, as you said, the one about, oh, this should be fun and the way she lays back. And I'm um yeah a really nice person. The delivery was great. So for only having three or four lines, most of them were great. So I decided to give I would love to Susan this week on and and do that.
00:56:21
Speaker
um But yeah, how many cups of Central Park roast are we are we putting together for you? Seven mugs with an espresso shot.
00:56:31
Speaker
All right. I like it. and i like it when you do the extra espresso shot. you you know it's It's like you're probably going to say seven, but yeah it didn't feel right.
00:56:42
Speaker
It just didn't feel right. It felt a little low. yeah Yeah. Well, it does feel right for me. I've landed on seven, too. didn't dislike the episode by any means, but I felt it was, hate saying average, because even an average episode has really, really funny bits.
00:56:59
Speaker
average would be five right well that's true that's true yeah and we wouldn't be doing this podcast if we didn't love even the the you know medium episodes exactly so but so you know it it's l it feels a little bad to give it seven but even seven out of ten there's a good it's a passing grade it's a good score in my books there's just funnier ones um this Well, not to give anything away, but speaking of funnier ones, I think next week, next week the one where Mr. Heckles dies.
00:57:37
