Introduction and Announcements
00:00:05
Speaker
Well, hello and welcome to the latest special episode of the Purple Door Podcast, a friend's rewatch pod. I'm your host, Alistair, alongside my good friend, Deanne. Hello, Al.
00:00:16
Speaker
And as I said, today is a special episode because we do have an additional special guest with ah with us today. We have Lara, who we connected with on, i believe, the Friendspiration Facebook page.
00:00:30
Speaker
We've created a little traction there and a few fans have reached out. We thought Lara would be a great first guest before we get to lara i wanted to make two very quick announcements um this episode will come out a week or two after we record um but as of last week when i think we'd released 11 episodes we've officially hit 1000 downloads so we're pretty excited about that o It's so exciting. It's a nice
DVDs vs Streaming: The Friends Experience
00:00:57
Speaker
milestone. Both Deanne and have said we would do this if nobody listened because we just like talking about friends.
00:01:03
Speaker
Even if our spouses were the only ones that tuned in that would be fine. But it's fun. We've now got listeners in a dozen countries. We have people reaching out to us. And yesterday we recorded a special live episode, which we will put out this week.
00:01:18
Speaker
And I did have a second announcement that I've saved for Woolison. I'm going to show her something. On the camera. did I need a drum roll.
00:01:28
Speaker
You bought it! Yes! Awesome! Is it a complete series? The legacy this podcast is I watch on Max and Deanne watches on, watches the DVDs. My old DVDs.
00:01:45
Speaker
So she has all the fancy deleted scenes. And honestly, I did not order these. ah got text message from Kate, my darling wife, about half an hour ago saying, go and check the front porch.
00:01:55
Speaker
So these have shown up. Yeah, she's a keeper.
Meet Lara: A Friends Superfan
00:02:00
Speaker
She's a keeper. Now we'll get to, now we will only know that they are deleted because they'll be highlighted in blue on that, on that website I go to. Yeah. I i did think I might still watch them on max. And then once we've done the podcast, go back and watch the DVD to see, so we can still see the differences. Cause I'm sure a lot of our listeners watch it streaming versus DVD, but regardless, I'm very excited about this, yes but I'll still double check and I won't ask you trivia questions from the cut scenes. Thank you.
00:02:30
Speaker
Thank you so much. You're welcome. yeah Well, enough about us and some DVDs. As I said, a super fan reached out to us and we're very excited to have Lara on the podcast doing a special edition.
00:02:44
Speaker
Welcome to Lara. Lara, could you tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got into Friends? Hi there. um um My name is Lara, as Al said. i am definitely a huge super fan.
00:02:56
Speaker
um I have been into Friends since college. um So I was in college around 1992 to 96. And so that's, you know, 94 is when the the ah show started.
00:03:11
Speaker
so actually my dad started watching it and then he's she he said to me that I would really enjoy it. And so I started watching it, like taping different episodes, and I became very quickly obsessed.
00:03:25
Speaker
ah Did not miss an episode and would be following the um Following the characters, very invested in what was going on and just, you know, and I rewatched and rewatched and rewatched ah since then.
Favorite Episodes and Characters
00:03:41
Speaker
I watched the DVDs and now it's funny because when I watch the streaming, I can tell what's missing.
00:03:49
Speaker
ah So when you see the lead is in, I'm like, wait a minute, there was something else to be. And and I'll be like, oh, wait, I know i know what was there. i know. I know. Right. You can tell us.
00:03:59
Speaker
So we'll de we default to you if we have any questions about the student versus the DVD. So, but, um you know, I've, my life has encapsulated friends. I'm actually wearing a t-shirt right now from the one where Ross got high as all different questionss from people.
00:04:18
Speaker
And then at the end, it's that ah like that's a lot of information to get in 30 seconds. um But, you know, i I live and breathe it. I, you know, for the reunion, I had a watch party. I made the English trifle.
00:04:32
Speaker
I made Natalie Toll House cookies. You know, I made a bunch of Madeline. So a bunch of different things and had it people over did trivia. how fun i love that i feel i feel suddenly put in my place i don't know about you dm yes yes we just love the show i did think when we recorded the live if when we do another one which we will at some point we need to bring some toll house cookies and things do something yes take it up a notch inspired by lara disappointed in us are you disappointed in us
00:05:04
Speaker
Not in part at all, but just so you know, when i when you make the English trifle, use crushed Oreos and white and green M&Ms. Don't do peas and onions and meat, please. Oh, okay. Good to know. Good alternative.
00:05:20
Speaker
Make sure that we find that actually. And you mix in the ah green and white M&Ms, and then you have the meat sauteed with peas and onions, but it does not taste like that.
00:05:31
Speaker
I love your thinking. That's fantastic. so creative When I first heard about this and I was like, okay, even without the be meat and the peas and onions, I thought it was going to be disgusting with the custard and the jam and all that.
00:05:45
Speaker
I'm like, okay, this cannot possibly be good, but it is, it is good. Good to know. All right. We will take your word for it We will ah throw together a trifle for the next time we get together. Totally make it, yeah.
00:05:58
Speaker
I love it. I'm going to volunteer for the Nestle Toolhouse. All right, you did that. And not the English trifle because that just sounds complicated. I'll throw the trifle together. We'll see what happens. There you go. I love it.
00:06:12
Speaker
Well, we've put together nine questions for Lara. Some of these we asked on a live episode. Some of them we didn't get to. But we thought it'd be a lot of fun to
Memorable Moments and Bloopers
00:06:21
Speaker
di deep dive into these questions with a so with a super fan.
00:06:25
Speaker
So Lara has volunteered to answer all of these. And we're going to start off with a nice simple question. Lara, who is your favorite character and why? right. so So took a lot of thinking and really reflecting here. But really my favorite character, and i I don't have just one, I have technically two, Phoebe and Joey.
00:06:50
Speaker
are my absolute favorite characters for, for a variety of reasons. Phoebe is Phoebe, no matter what anybody thinks, no matter what anybody says to her, she is herself.
00:07:03
Speaker
She's, she's unapologetically herself. And does not get influenced by others, does not get you know does not care what other people think about what we might find different or unusual.
00:07:20
Speaker
She's who she is. And I love that about her. But she also accepts other people for who they are. Indeed. that you know With the quirkiness that goes along with her, she's also extremely helpful to her friends and very, very patient, but also just, you know, she accepts them for who they are. Well, except for, except for when she moves out of Monica's apartment, cause she can't stand being too clean, but one i' find another way.
00:07:52
Speaker
um And then Joey has got to be the most loyal friend. Al says that almost every single week. Yes.
00:08:05
Speaker
He is the most loyal. He loves you no matter what. He's there for you. He, you know, I mean, just thinking back to all the different episodes, he really stands up for his friends no matter what kind of situation they are in And it's just unconditional love.
00:08:26
Speaker
And that that's what I love about both of them. That's really what I felt about Joey was, to me, Joey was the most, um the friends were his family. Yes. More than others. It felt like even though Phoebe doesn't have much of it a family, Rachel's is a bit strange too. But to me, Joey, that it was like his pack and you didn't cross anybody in that pack. And i to me, that was a characteristic of being a favorite friend.
00:08:51
Speaker
Yes. So sounds like we're on very, very similar paths there. Yeah. Joe, and he just cracks me up. Yeah. All of his mannerisms, everything about him. He just makes me laugh. he You know, he loves it. love
Friends in Daily Life and One-off Characters
00:09:07
Speaker
I love it. will Wilson, I sent you the questions on Facebook. I forgot to mention that to you. So I'm glad you got them. No, no. I'm the one who forgot to say that I sent them over to you. All right. so Lara, what is your, the funniest moment in your opinion?
00:09:25
Speaker
or the the funniest moment? You want me to do one? Like, how do you narrow it down? we Top two, top three. We like we can roll with that. yeah so yeah so So, when I'm doing a hierarchy of episodes, the top tier are the Thanksgiving episodes.
00:09:45
Speaker
Okay. okay without With the exception of the one where Chandler doesn't like dogs, the one I really don't care about, but the other ones, other Thanksgiving ones... are brilliant.
00:09:57
Speaker
So, um, the one with the rumor when where Brad Pitt is guest starring, um, yes, it is gold. it is pure gold. And we, we tend to, um quote from that episode the most, um, the one with the embryos where they're fighting over who gets the apartment and they're doing the the trivia game.
00:10:22
Speaker
yeah Also brilliant. ah You know, so those those two like stand out, but also the one with the holiday armadillo. Brilliant.
00:10:34
Speaker
brilliant Oh, my goodness. Brilliant. You know, there are so many a fantastic, fantastic lines from that show, from that episode that are just so absolutely funny.
00:10:47
Speaker
And so those are the three that I tend to stand out of my mind. The other also one that i happen to love is the 100th, where Phoebe is giving birth to the triplets.
00:10:58
Speaker
Yes. And she's in the hospital with the doctor who really likes Happy Days. um i I want a doctor telling me I'm dilated a mundo.
00:11:09
Speaker
and um' like, I get me every single time. like So, yeah. I mean, that there I could go on and on and on, but those are really my like absolute favorites. I could watch them over and over again and still find them funny.
00:11:22
Speaker
I love that. And it's funny because, Deanne, we really haven't talked about our favorite moments together on the podcast or even our favorite, like, episodes at Don Donby that we, like, I don't know if I have a favorite episode less than things like that.
00:11:35
Speaker
So that's something we might have to dive into at some point. See, I know what my favorite season is. Interesting. That's easy for me because I would watch that set of DVDs, like, on loop. Right. It would be the best. Yes.
00:11:51
Speaker
I'm sorry? What season is it? Okay, you're going to judge me because I can't tell you which number, but it's the one where Chandler and Monica are sneaking around, like right after whenever they wake up in London, like right after ah roson said Rachel. you Season six.
00:12:09
Speaker
Season six is my favorite season. okay yeah Okay. That's a really good one. yeah lacy i just go It might be season five because Ross's wedding was season four, episode 23 and 22. Okay, so
Sentimental Moments and Storyline Speculations
00:12:21
Speaker
then it would be season five. Season six where they actually get together and then they get married at the end.
00:12:28
Speaker
and It's the one where they're sneaking around as my favorite season. The one right after Vegas. yeah with they like They wake up after the engagement party, right? so Yeah.
00:12:40
Speaker
so Or the ah the rehearsal dinner. yeah Yes, yes, that one. where and think She pops up. That's right. So ah so well done. Pink friends. Pink friends moment.
00:12:54
Speaker
Yeah, man. and I would be hard pressed to pick a like the funniest moments. But Yeah, whenever I... And I've never really thought about my favorite episodes. I'm going to as we go through all of this.
00:13:10
Speaker
It's going to be tough. it's gonna be tough I don't think I could pick just one episode to be my favorite. I think in each season, I have several favorites and I have one that i habitually skip right over.
00:13:24
Speaker
Right. Right. ah huh i just I'm just not interested. it sounds horrible for me to say, but there are or chunks of different seasons where I'm like, nope, we're going to just skip all of this and go back to a happier place. and Well, that's what it's all about, right? Yes.
00:13:44
Speaker
So to put a smile on your face. For sure. i love it. mean We know who your favorite two characters are, but what about a favorite one-off character or somebody who just doesn't appear too much? you know Let's just say outside of the regular six.
00:13:59
Speaker
Okay. So i knew who this was immediately. My absolute favorite one-off character
Podcast Insights and Future Collaborations
00:14:07
Speaker
is Rachel's sister, Amy. play by Wow. That's a great one.
00:14:12
Speaker
That is a great one. So the one with Rachel's other sister, which is the Thanksgiving episode, of course. So we have Monica using their fancy china from their wedding or from their, you know, when they got married, they got fancy china and she hasn't really wanted to use it yet.
00:14:34
Speaker
um And so she's like terrified of it being um broken. And Amy's calling her crazy plate lady. And then we have, you know, Amy, the self-centered, absolute horrible person who comes into the mix, says, is this Emmett? Not even knowing that she has a niece, not a nephew.
00:14:57
Speaker
and that you know And then in the middle of the episode, she comes out of the bathroom and says, you know what would be great? If you guys died. yes like i would get the baby.
00:15:09
Speaker
And she goes, and Ross goes, oh, thank you, Amy. yeah
00:15:18
Speaker
And we hit her, again, unapologetic, but it's just horrible. Like, she's so mean. and you ah You don't even know, like, is it she just stupidly mean?
00:15:31
Speaker
Or does she really have just a horrible, malicious intent? You know, you don't really know, but man, she's mean. yeah I love that this show has so many layers that Amy wasn't even on my radar.
00:15:47
Speaker
No. But now that you explain it, I get it. Like, completely get it. And it's so far left field from everybody else, you know? That makes it even more entertaining.
00:15:59
Speaker
How funny. That's a great, great, great one. Amy is for sure my my one of my favorite one-off characters. The one where she babysits. she She can never figure out who Ross is. At one point, she thinks he's selling the guy's selling falafel on a street cart.
00:16:17
Speaker
Yes. um Sure. ah You know, she gets Emma's ears pierced without having anyone knowing.
00:16:28
Speaker
Only because she doesn't want that, that that that you know, she she said she does it so that people don't notice her nose. I'm like, seriously. ah know and she's like, I'm going to be a baby stylist. And all these this ridiculous things coming out ah coming out of that episode from her, i absolutely love.
00:16:50
Speaker
That's hilarious. Yeah. All right. So for you, what is the most sentimental moment or the part that just, the part that tugged at your heartstrings?
00:17:02
Speaker
The very last episode. Oh, yeah. Of course. The very last one where everyone, pretty much has what they want. I know Joey is still single, but Monica and Chandler have their twins and they have, you know, they have Erica and Jack, and then we have Rachel getting off the plane, which I know there's all kinds of debate about whether she should have or not, but you know, kind of glad that she did.
00:17:33
Speaker
And you know, so she's now back with Ross and indefinitely. And then, you know, Phoebe is with with Mike. And so they're very happy. And, you know, it's just a really, like they're standing in the middle of this empty now purple apartment.
00:17:51
Speaker
They still find the humor in it. You know, they talk about Ross, you know, actually living there years ago when he wanted tried to make it as a dancer. i't know if you guys remember that part. But, you know, there they're like,
00:18:05
Speaker
that None of us even, none of them even realize until he says something. And then, you know, they're all leaving their keys because they all, six of them have a key to that apartment. And then they're all walking out, but you just kind of see them moving on to the next chapter of their lives. But you can see the characters and the actors getting really emotional.
00:18:27
Speaker
And it just, it just kind of comes all together. so Okay. So a fun trivia question that asked yesterday was, do you know what the last line is?
00:18:40
Speaker
Yes. And who says it? ah Chandler says where when they say, though do we want to get the coffee? There you go. We're going to have to fly you down. You would have destroyed everybody yesterday. i but Lara would be on mine and Kate's team. I'm weren't yeah you might see you She would have been on mine and Kate's team. There you go. there I've won trivia on cruise ships with friends. Excellent. put people down. so yeah yeah so he They're walking out and Rachel's like, does anyone do you guys have time? or you know Do you want to go get some coffee? and
00:19:15
Speaker
They walk out and Janner says, where? yeah Yeah, I agree with you. I think it's the perfect blend. and It seems simple, but what a craft it must be to have the emotions kind of sad, but yet we're smiling and there's a bit of humor sprinkled in, but it doesn't distract from the enormity that this is the end of it, truly the end of an era.
00:19:37
Speaker
And how... How do people at the writers do that really is an incredible art. I don't think I've ever really truly gotten over the fact that it ended.
00:19:48
Speaker
i i don't think they should have continued on with it, but you know when you're building something up for 10 years of really just relatable, great comedy,
00:20:02
Speaker
It's got to be a letdown when you get to that very last episode and you don't realize there's not going to be any more. However, I wouldn't have ended it any different way. That's it. I haven't thought about that yet. If we could we rewrite the ending, it was perfect for me.
00:20:17
Speaker
It really was. There was nothing I would change at all. But if you could rewrite some, no, we'll come to that in a second. But what storyline, excuse me, could you have done without?
00:20:30
Speaker
was the story where You said you skipped over a few things from time to time. What one storyline would you show not? I could have skipped over, and I still will skip over at will, any scene that contains Emily in it.
00:20:45
Speaker
Any single scene. Wow. Yes.
00:20:50
Speaker
I dislike Emily. I so dislike her character, what she did to Ross. yeah um I believe I heard recently that him saying Rachel's name was actually a mistake. He wasn't, he actually was supposed to say Emily's name and he it slipped up and he said Rachel, um but and and the writers actually kept it.
00:21:13
Speaker
But Um, I really, i just don't like, I don't know. I don't like what happened to his character. I could see that. Because of Emily. And then after, I think his character completely changed because of her.
00:21:28
Speaker
And so I really disrespect that character. And so I'm willing to write off anything that has to do with Emily. Write off Emily. But then Monica and Chandler, it never would have happened. huh Right. No, absolutely. i You know, if...
00:21:48
Speaker
I could say that it never would have happened. I think it would have happened in a different scenario. Yes, Monica was very, very drunk and someone had come up to her and asked her, she was Ross's mom and she was very depressed about that.
00:22:01
Speaker
So yes, she was very drunk and they were kind of at the right time, the right moment. But I kind of felt towards the beginning, there was actually an episode, the one with the flashbacks, I believe ah one of the, one of the flashback ones where it's when you find out that Phoebe has has moved out and the coffee house was a yes And at one point Chandler and Monica, after, but after Phoebe event moves out, Chandler and Monica are like hugging and you can really sense the closeness. So,
00:22:41
Speaker
I kind of feel like those two characters would inevitably get together depending on who it is. But I still don't like any of the episodes with Emily. ah just do They all bother me. They all bother me.
00:22:54
Speaker
Okay. I don't think you're the only one. i think that might be fairly common. Yeah. yeah yeah because Yeah. All right. so let's take another flip on that.
00:23:08
Speaker
If you could write... in any storyline, what like what do you wish would have happened that didn't happen?
00:23:19
Speaker
Okay. So one of the episodes that I think is very, very downplayed is the one after the Super Bowl part one. There are two parts to the one after the Super Bowl. The first part is um Joey find figures out that he has a stalker.
00:23:39
Speaker
And the stalker is Erica, is Brooke Shields, and plays Erica, who thinks that Drake Ramore is actually a real human being. And she is completely delusional.
00:23:52
Speaker
And she finds out where Joey lives. she They go out for dinner. he realizes how crazy she is. And then the the characters get together to find a way to kind of show her that this is not a real character. Like, Draco Moria is not a real thing.
00:24:11
Speaker
And she never quite figures it out. But I would have kind of loved to have that come back As he got more famous. Yeah.
00:24:24
Speaker
To see her like re-show up. That's a great, great thought. And i would i would love to see, like, okay, when his character falls down the elevator shaft, does he come and like, does she, like, have a memorial service? Does she, you know, does she mourn over the loss of this person that she seems to be real?
00:24:46
Speaker
And then when she he gets a new brain he's back on day delivery, like, I would love to see her come back and relive the delusion that she was already part of.
00:24:59
Speaker
It would be great to see her almost like, i mean, a different relationship, but Chandler and Janice. Like, you just she just pops up in the most random places, at the most awkward times.
00:25:11
Speaker
There's Erica showing up. You know, that that kind that's a really good idea. That would just be so funny. Like, what if you're in the middle of you in either the middle of ah shooting the episode with Susan Sarandon...
00:25:25
Speaker
ah where she's getting, you know, she eventually she gets his brain, she gets he gets her brain, quote, do this brain transplant. And, you know, like to have Erica like on the side or sitting on the letter or some way for her character to be in there anytime Joey has some sort of change in his days of our lives character. I think that would be so funny.
00:25:52
Speaker
It would be hilarious. If she could have been the ah contestant on Pyramid with them. Oh, my God. Can you imagine? That that had just popped in my head how great that could have been.
00:26:05
Speaker
we need we should write an episode. I like it. That would be hilarious. Yeah, that would be so great. I love it. Yeah. Well, let's move on to the next question. We've just got a couple left.
00:26:17
Speaker
We all love watching Friends, but perhaps just as much finding the bloopers. um Some of them, I mean, literally, you're almost crying watching some of these bloopers.
00:26:29
Speaker
Is there one that stands out to you, Lara, as just the funniest blooper you have seen? Yes. Yes. For sure. um okay. So funny, funny as bluebirds. Okay. There's one, there's one where the one where Ross dates a student, um, and she, so he's moved in. And so Ross has moved in to Joey and Chandler's apartment.
00:26:57
Speaker
Uh, because you know, that that's like right after, I think everything that happened with Emily. And so he, she's, uh, found, you know, he had to find a place to live. And he all of his boxers are there and they build a fort.
00:27:10
Speaker
So Joey builds a fort and then and the very, very end of that episode, Chandler rocks in from work and Joey gets like pops up with a cowboy hat in the middle of the fort.
00:27:26
Speaker
And Chandler was like, I see you had a very ah productive day. And then Ross pops up with a Indian feathers, Native American feathers.
00:27:39
Speaker
And then the two of them make a sound like they're zipping up their pants.
00:27:46
Speaker
Oh my. like right ah Like, what are you guys doing? And then you hear the the the zipper sound effect. And I'm like, that is gold. That is so funny.
00:28:00
Speaker
That is a brilliant tool one. Yes. Any other... So the ones that I love are also any time that you can hear Phoebe or Lisa Kudrow laughing uncontrollably when she breaks character and and starts laughing.
00:28:15
Speaker
Oh, the one with the bagpipes. That's mine. That's mine. I can't get past it. It's my favorite. The with the bagpipes where Phoebe starts making that horrible noise and...
00:28:29
Speaker
and Jennifer cannot keep it together. right it is absolutely just, it's so funny. And you, you know, you just see them just all cracking up.
00:28:41
Speaker
um But I love Lisa Kudrow's just like howl of a laugh. So they're in the apartment and they're, it's right after the fire. So, ah you know, first ah Phoebe,
00:28:56
Speaker
Phoebe lives with Joey and then Rachel is with Joey. Once they figure out who actually caused the fire to start. And then Phoebe's like, Oh, you know, I think you should live with Monica's. And Rachel's like, well, I, but I can throw paper towels here.
00:29:12
Speaker
yeah and v Lisa Cuddo cannot keep it together. They do it over and over and over. And I i love, i just listening to her laugh is infectious. I love it.
00:29:25
Speaker
That's wonderful. Yeah, she does. ah you're Like you sort of alluded to, I can't put my finger on what it is about her laugh. Yes. But you can't help but just smile, for grin from ear to ear when she's got that genuine laugh.
00:29:38
Speaker
a Great laugh. Great laugh. Love her. And I think we're down to our final question over there with Deanne. Yes. All right. ah So what are some of the lines that you guys use in your everyday life?
00:29:53
Speaker
Okay, I have a lot. so um ah So bear with me. And i and because I'm this like super freak, I actually like wrote them down by which episode in order so I can kind of keep track of like where they were.
00:30:08
Speaker
yeah I know, I have issues. um That's awesome. Yeah, so the the one told at the beginning that Al knows that I love is the tartlets.
00:30:20
Speaker
Tartlets. Tartlets. Words lost all meaning. The one with the stone guy. And then when Chandler goes, it is amusing. when When we do the amuse-bush, and he goes, and well, it is amusing. Yes.
00:30:35
Speaker
So those are two that we use very, very often. um the next one that we do, does anyone have the keys? And that's the one from when the where the underdog gets away. so thanks One of the Thanksgiving episodes, the first Thanksgiving episode.
00:30:49
Speaker
when they're stuck outside the apartment without the keys. And they keep going, does anyone have the keys? you know So we we say that a lot, especially when talking about our keys.
00:31:03
Speaker
um then Another one, the one where Phoebe runs, when she starts running crazy and rachel and Rachel's like, you know but they're people.
00:31:15
Speaker
And, and maybe like, well, the people are never going to see again. And Rachel's like, but there are people with eyes and just, you know, you know how self conscious she is and it just, you know, it brings out such a, such a contrast in their characters.
00:31:35
Speaker
Definitely two from the one with the embryos, one of my favorite episodes. Uh, that's not, that's not even word.
00:31:46
Speaker
Transponster. That's not even a word. And then scotch tape when they're guessing how many, what kind of things are in Rachel's ah little shopping bag at the beginning. we do that.
00:31:59
Speaker
so we do that um I did the, I don't want some doctor telling me yeah that I'm dilated Mundo. That's the 100th. yeah It's Joey. We do a lot more turkey, Mr. Chandler from the one. Yes.
00:32:15
Speaker
yeah He gets a worse accent every year. Right. the One more turkey, Mr. Chandler. Okay. um The one where Ross got high, um you know, we say meat, good.
00:32:32
Speaker
When we're talking, about when we we're imitating Joey, liking the meat part of the trifle. yeah Good. Custard, good. Meat, good. ah we do that a lot. And then that's a lot of information to get in 30 seconds.
00:32:46
Speaker
Same episode. um My husband will often say, our kids are going to be fat. And that's where it ends the one with Phoebe's cookies, where they're finding the recipe for the Nestle to Laos.
00:32:59
Speaker
um And one of my absolute favorites is when Phoebe's looking down at her grandmother. That's exactly why you're burning in hell. You know, so so love that. um ah Here come the meat sweats from the woman, the rumor. And
00:33:21
Speaker
what ye um and then we do do queen Rachel and we just do the hair top back queen Rachel does whatever she wants in Rachel world.
00:33:32
Speaker
And then, you know, the flip back that Brad Pitt does, which is just one of our absolute favorites. So we'll say that a lot. um And then, ah oh The one where Joey learns how to speak French.
00:33:45
Speaker
Joey speaks French. And the director goes, good job, little buddy. That's good French. When he tells him in French, you know, what's, you know, her version of what's going on.
00:33:59
Speaker
um And then lastly, the one with the holiday armadillo, um where he says, um well, Santa says, and my favorite part was when Superman flew all the Jews out of Egypt.
00:34:16
Speaker
Yeah. Just love it. And so, you know, and we'll say, and Mexico. We'll do that very, very often. sort A lot of the ones that we typically use on a and very, very regular basis.
00:34:34
Speaker
um You know, sometimes depending on what what situation is. The other day we talked about something and we're like, yeah, it's moo.
00:34:44
Speaker
It's a cow's opinion. It doesn't That's right. oh yeah i mean it It tends to enter. a my My husband and I can probably have full conversations in all movie and TV references, so it will come up often.
00:35:02
Speaker
I love it. I would think Woolison, you're probably... I'm going between calling you Deanne and Woolison. We're all educators, so we call each other by our last name all the time. I'm not sure why I've started after 15 episodes calling you Woolison on air.
00:35:14
Speaker
But I feel like we can all relate. We've all seen this show hundred times. We all adore it. And yes some of those things, yeah, Kate and I say this house, but other ones we don't. And it's like how we all find different things in the show that we somehow...
00:35:29
Speaker
connect to or become a running joke in our household yes i think it just speaks volume to the show queen rachel one comes up very very often i you know whenever we're talking about any like any conversation comes up if we talk about something or someone that we don't particularly like we'll just go queen rachel does whatever she wants in the real rachel land And just yeah that flip, you know. and um yeah Well, and that's okay. But we need to just take a time out real quick because nobody will see the video of this.
00:36:01
Speaker
But you're doing such a beautiful job of doing that whole hair flip in the face. You're cracking me up. You know, ah you you practice some anything enough. As we know, we're educators. You practice anything enough. You get really good at it. That is true.
00:36:17
Speaker
it's true but Yeah, so, that I mean, I, you know, I can say that I can comfortably say that I tend to breathe friends. I have a bunch of t-shirts I'm actually wearing, and like I said, the t-shirt, all the different confessions from when Ross, the one from when Ross got high, that's Thanksgiving episode.
00:36:37
Speaker
um You know, so it has like the porch swing and it has the Playboy magazine. Then it has Monica and Chandler living together and Ross getting divorced again. So, and not putting meat in the trifle, you know, and I want to go So all those things, all the, a lot of information again in 30 seconds.
00:36:58
Speaker
I love it. I love it. I feel like we've connected with somebody else who gets it like we do. It's wonderful. yes oh We're going to, well, I definitely want to, you know, be back. If you guys have other like, you know, fun live episodes, I'm i'm totally there. If you ever want me back. Yes, absolutely. im yeah I can talk about friends, you know, from day in to day out. So.
00:37:20
Speaker
And level. Willison, any final thoughts before we wrap this up? This was so fun. And it was so nice to meet you face to face, Laura. And yeah, ah just a super fan all the way around.
00:37:33
Speaker
yeah um Actually, I wanted to just bring up something that that Al, when he and Steve did the first episode, was listening to it. And Actually, it may have been the second episode because we were talking about the one ah with the sonogram at the end.
00:37:48
Speaker
And they were talking you were talking about how you feel like Carol manipulated Ross into- Let's have a conversation. Yes. yeah Yes.
00:38:01
Speaker
Okay. And it made me think about a few things because in the episodes where it says the one that could have been where their lives, like what if Carol never realized that she was a lesbian?
00:38:13
Speaker
And, you know, but you see Ross doing everything he possibly can to try to sleep with his wife. And she really just is not interested. And so thinking about that and how uninterested, disinterested she was and the fact that she was pregnant and I'm like, wait a minute.
00:38:36
Speaker
You know what? This makes total sense now. She totally manipulated him and just like, I'm going to have a baby. And I'm like, you know what? And I never would have thought about this. I never would have put such a the sunday horrible intent on Carol.
00:38:53
Speaker
But man, when you guys said that, I'm like, wait a minute. That's something new. Okay. I can get behind this ulterior motive. Okay.
00:39:04
Speaker
I'm glad that the podcast has done that yet. Deanne's over there so happy. I am. um I am cheering are the super fan. she is She says that, yes, we are.
00:39:16
Speaker
yeah we're on to something. We're on to something. And my thing is, like I've got lots of opinions about Friends, but none that I'm not willing to ah certainly discuss and b change my mind on. like Because Deanna and i found we've had this countless times already.
00:39:30
Speaker
We see things. she's She'll see things. i It never even crossed my mind. And once she mentions it, but that was obvious. It was staring me in the face. I never saw it. And it's it's one of the reasons I love doing this podcast is it's opening my eyes, certainly, to things.
00:39:45
Speaker
Absolutely. But you, you opened my eyes like you in the second episode that you guys did. I, I, you know, when I started thinking about this, I'm like, that makes total sense.
00:39:57
Speaker
Why didn't i think about this? And I think it's probably because I never would have, you know, knowingly thought that somebody would actually do that. And right help someone seems to have done that. So, yeah.
00:40:11
Speaker
Well, throw I'll throw this last one out there. The great debate in our household has been I have quite a firm opinion on Aurora back in season one, where Chandler, yeah, Deanne knows. Y'all do go back and forth. Kate felt very strong. Kate was not not happy with me.
00:40:28
Speaker
She feels Aurora was doing nothing wrong. She's basically a female Joey. And she was in Farring. I think it's safe say in Farring. that her husband, boyfriend, everyone knew about each other.
00:40:42
Speaker
My perception was they didn't, but I don't think there's any evidence either way to, to, to solidify either opinion. so if I I really don't think anybody knew about the other, but she certainly did have quite a harem, didn't she?
00:40:58
Speaker
She had a lot going on. yeah She, she, you know, she had, she had Chandler and I, and I found it very interesting given that Chandler at that point we was really just looking for someone to hook up with that.
00:41:11
Speaker
He actually did not like the fact that she was with her husband and other guys. i Like right so there was a new guy, Ethan and you know, her husband. So, and the fact that, you know, you could see a little bit of character development with Chandler and the fact that he actually did not like being,
00:41:30
Speaker
one of many with the same woman. So I found that very, very immature take on his character. You wouldn't really have but expected it yet. Yeah, I mean, it was just, was it all in the one episode? She was just in one, wasn't she? Yeah, she was just in one. Yeah, and so that growth from suddenly kind of got feelings and wanted to actually be with, spent time with her.
00:41:52
Speaker
Yes. Yeah, there was a lot of growth in 22 minutes. and It was the one where Joey was playing Void. Yeah.
00:42:01
Speaker
Yeah, there's that that one. So, yeah, that's that's that's a great episode. It's a brilliant episode. Yeah. Well, larry thank you for being on, Lara. This has been tremendous, and this will not be the last time you are on this podcast. I really hope not, because like I said, could talk to friends all day, and I'm happy to come on whenever you want. I'm happy to talk to you guys. It's so nice to meet you fellow educators who are also friends addicts like I am.
00:42:26
Speaker
Awesome. Well, hold on right there. We'll play the outro music and then let's talk when we can do this again. Cool. But thank you guys all for tuning in to this special super fan edition of the Purple Door podcast.
