Introduction to the Podcast
00:00:05
Speaker
and welcome to the latest episode of the Purple Door Podcast, a friend's rewatch pod. I am one of your hosts Alistair alongside my wonderful good friend Deanne. Deanne, how are you today?
00:00:18
Speaker
Oh, just awesome as always. Al, how are you? Oh, wonderful. Yeah, it's my official first day of summer. I'm off most of this week. I'll be teaching summer school as of next week, but it's nice to have a few days off. And
Summer Routines and Reflections
00:00:32
Speaker
what better way than on a Monday morning to start by recording a season finale?
00:00:37
Speaker
There you go. I'm excited. Yes. And you're off today, but you're back in tomorrow. Is that right? I'm back tomorrow. And then next week starts our decade days, our 10-hour days.
00:00:49
Speaker
That's right. do that for a couple of weeks, and then it will be summer. Excellent. It'll go by before you know it, and then it will you'll have your summer. We're going to make it fun, and I work with some awesome people.
00:01:02
Speaker
So, you know, there's worse ways to be spending time. Exactly. I mean, everyone always sort of says, oh, teaching, you get the long summers, which I'm very thankful for and is great.
00:01:14
Speaker
But I kind of miss my people and miss the routine and stuff. So I don't mind teaching summer school in June. I'll be off for July and a bit of August.
The Humor in Age and Routine
00:01:23
Speaker
And that's fine. That's enough time.
00:01:25
Speaker
Otherwise, I start getting bored and I forget what day it is. And lack of structure is not good for me, I've discovered over the years. Right. So then the question is,
00:01:37
Speaker
Is it specific to you or is it because you're getting older? that This is very true. maybe it's a Maybe it's a bit of that too, that I like my life and my routine.
00:01:50
Speaker
and yeah, I'm not one for whom going out in the middle of the week on like impromptu is a good thing. Yeah. Like I like my, especially during the week, a good routine Yes, yes.
00:02:03
Speaker
Otherwise, it ends up very expensive. And I don't know if you run into the same things that I do. But if I don't have a plan and a routine and everything else that it just turns into expensive.
00:02:17
Speaker
Yes, I don't know what happened. but Right. Suddenly, you the wallet is drained. And that is that. And I had a good time, though.
00:02:28
Speaker
Oh, absolutely. Memories were made. Laughter was had. But still. Yeah. Yeah. No, I think I'm at that point. I just like my life. So I've got my
Midlife Hobbies and Humor
00:02:38
Speaker
nice routine during the week. I like Sundays to be quiet, to prepare for the week, which pretty much just leaves Saturday to get crazy. But yeah outside of that, hurtling towards middle age, I think. And that's all right.
00:02:53
Speaker
I'm going to embrace it. That's it. I saw the funniest video. Yesterday and and you're actually the third person that I told about this. So it must've like spoken directly to my heart.
00:03:05
Speaker
Right. You know, the Holderness family, you remember them? The Christmas pajama people. Okay. I think, I think so. They have made hilarious videos, like since the Christmas pajamas, but like they did one where whenever they turned 40, they did a Justin Bieber remake and it was so funny.
00:03:25
Speaker
But she was, they did one the other day and it was, she was at a meeting for a midlife um hobby. And so she was, they would spin the wheel and it was like quilting and all these different things. And then birds and they is she got birds and they were like, and all of a sudden you're going to be wanting to look at different, you know, types of binoculars. And I thought that was the most hilarious thing.
Season Finale Excitement
00:03:51
Speaker
And I just thought of that again, whenever you said hurtling towards middle age. So I'm really excited to see what my middle-aged lady hobby will be. Well, we used to, Kate and I used to say to me- I feel so try them all.
00:04:04
Speaker
I'll try them all. Why not? Why not? Kate and i used to sit and laugh at the, ah have you seen the progressive car insurance or just insurance commercials? Uh-huh. Were you becoming your parents?
00:04:17
Speaker
Yes. Yeah. And we used to laugh at those, go, look at those, look at those guys. And now we kind of look at each other and yeah, I get it. Yeah. you know yeah Look at these guys. Yeah. Yeah, like I'm irrationally excited tomorrow to clean the garage out.
00:04:32
Speaker
ah just And just, you know, this is, I've been looking forward to this. it Exciting times. Such is life, yes. Even more exciting is our little happy corner of our Friends universe.
00:04:47
Speaker
Exactly, exactly. So let's get stuck into this. We're at, I cannot believe, the season finale of Series 1 already. it kind of feels It's weird. It feels like we just started, but also like we've been doing this forever in a very good way.
00:05:02
Speaker
Yes. As you said, it's become a staple of our lives now doing this podcast. So yesterday I said to Joseph, I was like, you know, and I came in and in he was like brushing his teeth and everything. And I said,
00:05:15
Speaker
Tomorrow we're recording the last episode of the season. And he's like, it's okay. You've got nine more. was like, I am not being sad. am actually...
Friends Episode Quiz
00:05:29
Speaker
um actually very impressed with us and I'm very proud of us and he was like oh okay he's like that's not where I thought you were going with this yeah yeah yeah it's like how yeah you elder when they graduate kindergarten it's sad because they're growing up but they've got a long way to go and that's the way we are with this podcast I feel like Yeah, yeah.
00:05:50
Speaker
Some exciting stuff coming. But yeah, season one, episode 24, the one where Rachel finds out. I struggled with Bamboozled coming up with good questions this week, so i'm interested to hear yours. So why don't you start with your first question?
00:06:06
Speaker
Okay, well, we are not going to pretend like my questions are amazing, and I only have seven. I have also have seven. Okay, all right. Well, my first question is,
00:06:18
Speaker
What's all over Phoebe's outfit during Rachel's party? ah She's in like ah the whole first half of the episode. She's in an outfit and it's got something all over it.
00:06:31
Speaker
And what is it? I have no idea. So I'm just going to take a shot in the dark with birds. Oh, that's a good guess.
00:06:42
Speaker
But it is flowers. It flowers. Oh, well. Yeah, like the skirt is completely full of flowers, and it's just got a sweater on that's got, like, embroidered flowers on it.
00:06:54
Speaker
Good for Phoebe. Very nice indeed. And very Phoebe-esque, as birds would have been well. Yep. I thought a little flighty would be Phoebe, but flowers, as you said, equally suitable. Equally suitable.
00:07:07
Speaker
All right. My first one for you is sort straightforward. How much money is Joey going to make from his science research gig? ah That's one of my questions. $700. $700. All right. I've knocked out one of your questions.
00:07:22
Speaker
Yes, you did. All right. So on the jetway, what is the message from Rachel to the man in the blue coat?
00:07:40
Speaker
thank you for the gift. see you when you get back. Something like that.
Friends Episode Details and Humor
00:07:44
Speaker
Yeah, and something like that. I love to the present and I'll see you when you get back. All right. All right. Yes. But bummer it was the wrong guy in the blue jacket. right i've I've got a thought about that. and i didn't write it down, but I'll ask you when we get to that point of the review. Okay.
00:08:03
Speaker
But what does, another straightforward one, what does Chandler give Rachel for her birthday? Chandler gives her travel um Scrabble. Travel Scrabble. Indeed.
00:08:14
Speaker
A bizarre gift. I mean, I wouldn't say no. I enjoy a little game of Scrabble now and again, but An odd one. Well, but is it? Because think about the one with the monkey and he's eating the Scrabble. They play a lot of Scrabble. That's true. Scrabble has been. and I didn't think of that.
00:08:33
Speaker
But knowing all of this and this is the first birthday, I think this is why Rachel um gives the list. right That's right. I didn't think about that little throwback to Scrabble. That's fantastic.
00:08:49
Speaker
Yeah. um All right. So what cereal Chandler eating? and You've just stolen my fifth question. He is eating ah Crunch Berries, the knockoff version, the TV safe version of Captain Crunch.
00:09:03
Speaker
There you go. Yes. which i get no No, was there not Captain Crunch Berries? I think there was. You know what? the You mean in this episode or another one? No, no. I mean in real life.
00:09:17
Speaker
There might be. There might have been. I've never eaten Captain Crunch. But I know that Captain Crunch gets referenced in another episode, but I couldn't remember what one because Chandler says something about... Oh, no. I think Joey says ah like it's weird being the captain of a cereal and then he makes a comment about his eyebrows being on the hat.
00:09:38
Speaker
Yes. I don't remember what episode that is. But it's nice to have you know the same cereal making a ah reappearance at some point. Yes. But there is Crunch Berries. There Crunch Berries? that actual box.
00:09:50
Speaker
The actual box that says Crunch Berries. And it, yeah. And they're, like, little puffs. So it is still Captain Crunch, but then it's Captain Crunch Berries. And it's Captain Crunch and the berries. And then there's Oops!
00:10:04
Speaker
All Berries, where it's only the puff things. But that box is blue. Yeah. and So there you go. Anyway, fun fact, breakfast cereal.
00:10:15
Speaker
That's what we had. Next week on the cereal podcast, we'll discuss Cocoa Krispies. I don't know. This is also not the first time we've talked about cereal on this podcast. Well, it was episode three or four, something like that. We sampled cereal live on air, didn't we? Yes, we did. and Yes. Yes. Cereal is the unofficial food of the Purple Door podcast.
00:10:38
Speaker
It would seem. It's a good, good food. It's a good food. Universal food. Now, I hope my question here makes sense. I was trying to think how to phrase it. What four words does Chandler use to describe and the Ross and Rachel situation trying to downplay his involvement?
00:10:57
Speaker
and this Oh! Oh, oh, oh, oh. Oh, man. Because Phoebe's like, or Rachel's saying, it's unbelievable.
00:11:07
Speaker
And then he's like, eh, it's and then he Try and get three out of the four. We'll give you three of the four. I know that he goes, it's me.
Friends Scenes and Humor
00:11:17
Speaker
It's a B. It's...
00:11:23
Speaker
Oh, I can't. i can see him spiraling because he's so worried about himself. Yeah, so they're all synonyms of of of diminutive. Yeah, boring.
00:11:34
Speaker
It's more about the size of the problem. So he's saying it's not huge. It's small. It's little. it's So we've got small. Okay.
00:11:46
Speaker
It's tiny. It's tiny. You've got two at the form. Okay. And then he says it's a B at the very end. It's not B. You're one letter He's not saying B. What's it what's a good a good traditional Scottish word for small?
00:12:02
Speaker
the Oh, we. We. We. Yes. It's a we. That's right. But in my head, it was B because Bs are little.
00:12:13
Speaker
That's really fun. I like that. and the only one you were missing was petite. There you go. You go small, tiny, petite, wee. Yes. that That scene was funny. Like I could see it in my head.
00:12:25
Speaker
Yeah. That's a good one. yeah Okay. So I'm going to ask this question. Mm-hmm. But as right before we went on air, I have my little website that I like to go to to see which scenes I watched that you did not. And this scene, you did not see.
00:12:44
Speaker
But you would probably notice. So here you go. So what two things does Rachel put on before she heads out to the airport to go see Ross the second time?
00:12:57
Speaker
Okay, so... Does she put on a skirt, like the one that she exchanged? Is that that scene? No, she it's it's after that. So she goes out on the balcony. She likeke has her information abroad.
00:13:14
Speaker
And then she comes back into the apartment. She goes into her room. She gets something. And then she's leaving. And then she's telling ray ah Monica, you know, date's out there. You can have it if you want it.
00:13:28
Speaker
She's like, he's not a sandwich. She's like, right, he's investment baker with offer tickets. And then Monica turns around and like, hey. oh But she puts on two things.
00:13:40
Speaker
I'm going to guess one is the brooch, whoever it is that Ross gave her. Yes, yes. And the other, because I know she, I saw that she was wearing that in the final scene. Yes. And then a jacket.
00:13:51
Speaker
Yes. All right. That's exactly right. Nice job. There we go. Power of deduction. yeah She goes into her room, she grabs the the pin and she comes out and she's fascinating, fascinating, fascinating.
00:14:05
Speaker
Wow. Fastening it onto her shirt and talking to Rachel and then she puts on her jacket and his outfit. Very nice. All right. So if Ross and Rachel were going to start dating, hypothetically, what number date would they be starting on?
00:14:24
Speaker
Oh, okay. Hang on. yeah Because I just almost said something, but I want to say 15, but I think it's 17. Go with your gut. 15 is correct.
00:14:37
Speaker
Okay. Okay. Okay. Yes.
00:14:43
Speaker
All right. What have you got for me? All right. So what song is playing while Rachel is waiting for Ross to get off the plane? Aha. ay
00:14:56
Speaker
shazammed that this morning because i didn't know the song and i believe it is take a bow by madonna it is yes because i thought it was just odd that they dropped in some music like in in that way right okay because whenever they do it's very um i don't know it stands out we've had ah quite a few conversations about that this season yes but that song and and that that was a big song at that time Like that was a real big song.
00:15:29
Speaker
I wonder what they had to pay to get the five seconds of music and whatever it was. Yeah, I don't know, but and it was good. It was good. And then there's another Madonna clip that also ties to A League of Their Own, which Al, have you watched it yet?
00:15:48
Speaker
You know what? I have not. It's summer. It's summer. It's summer. Okay. Okay. Okay. We'll get on it. We're going to get on it. Well, speaking of Rachel going to pick up Ross, what gate is his flight arriving at? ah Whoa.
00:16:05
Speaker
Yeah, Monica happens to mention it.
00:16:10
Speaker
Is that 17 or 21? but twenty one Well, if you kind of merge those together, you would come up with That be it's best ah that was a shot and that was a stretch. Yes.
00:16:28
Speaker
All right. What book did Joey give to Rachel for her birthday? I feel like it's just another reason why they get the list moving forward. You know what? and that And here's the thing. I didn't write it down because I thought your teacher brain would ask me this question. I'm pretty sure it's, Oh, The Places You'll Go by Dr. Seuss.
00:16:49
Speaker
Yeah, that's exactly what it is. A very common book to give to students leaving school. yeah
Chandler's Anxiety and Humor
00:16:57
Speaker
Now, my final question for you, i think this is correct.
00:17:01
Speaker
So the final airport scene, we only see one person holding up a name card. What name is on the card?
00:17:12
Speaker
And I'll tell you this, I just Googled it. It is indeed the most popular last name or surname in China. Smith. In China. In China. When?
00:17:24
Speaker
Very close, Wang, W-A-M-G. Okay, there you Yeah, because was like, that's a common Chinese, but anyway, it is indeed the most common.
00:17:35
Speaker
There you go, well, then that makes sense. Yep. Do you have any more for me or you out? I don't, don't. Yeah, I'm done too. All right. I found this one a struggle.
00:17:48
Speaker
It was hard. Yeah, this I don't know why, this one seemed tricky. Okay, and then I wrote down what's on Chandler's shirt, but I couldn't even figure it out, so I was like, never mind.
00:18:01
Speaker
I have another one for you. What statue Joey's nightstand? Wow, what statue is on his nightstand?
00:18:14
Speaker
I have absolutely no idea. So I'm trying to think of something that would even qualify as a reasonable guess. A statue of ah an Easter Island statue. One of those big heads.
00:18:26
Speaker
Whoa, that's a good guess. It's the thinker. The thinker, really? And which is what I thought was on Chandler's shirt.
00:18:37
Speaker
Like, and then later on, whenever we saw that, I was like, yeah, no, that wasn't it. But it was a faceless guy. I don't even know what was on Chandler's shirt.
00:18:47
Speaker
So I started to write that question down and then I marked it out. But yeah, so the thinker is on Joey's best-button table, which is interesting.
00:18:59
Speaker
Deep philosophical musings are not what you usually associate with Joey. So that is interesting. But he's on a whole different level. That's it. Maybe that's it.
00:19:09
Speaker
Maybe we're the ones that need to do some more thinking. ah Like
Episode Openings and Barbecue
00:19:14
Speaker
Chandler in the box. Does some thinking later on. but So I believe we might have a different opening scene. Is this correct?
00:19:23
Speaker
Well, I don't know. my opening scene is in the coffee house. And but joe or Ross is sitting on the couch and Chandler and Joey are sitting next to him.
00:19:35
Speaker
And he's going through and he's showing them pictures of Ben falling asleep. Yes, that's that's all right. That's the same thing. yeah Going through Ben's pictures. Okay. And he's he's going through and he's like, oh, oh, is he going to fall asleep?
00:19:49
Speaker
Is he going to fall asleep? No. And he's out like a light. No. Okay. So that's different. So maybe the scene is just cut for the the streaming version.
00:20:01
Speaker
Yeah, well, yeah, because it's these the two of them and then Joey and Chandler start falling asleep while they're looking at it. Okay, that's different. Yeah, they're not doing that at all.
00:20:13
Speaker
And then they're like, you know, and then Chandler's like, this is a lot better than the Has He Pooped series. And then the girls come in.
00:20:25
Speaker
And they're like, you know, what are y'all doing? And Shayla's like, we've got 400 pictures of Ben sleeping. And then they all get excited and come over and start looking through the pictures.
00:20:37
Speaker
Yeah, so it's definitely, it's the same scene, but maybe the streaming version has cut the first half of it. Because we start off with the whole, they're all sitting there on the couch and they just look at one or two pictures and they're done.
00:20:50
Speaker
Yeah, no, like the my whole opening scene... is Ross going through these pictures and Joey and Chandler being bored out of their brains. Right. No, that's very different. Yeah, we start off with, they're looking a couple of pictures of Ben, but then very quickly goes to Joey being a little short on cash.
00:21:09
Speaker
um So Chandler helps him out by paying his coffee and his breakfast. I forget to write it down. going to ask you how much does Chandler say Joey owes him? 17 gajillion. That's where I got the 17, I think.
00:21:23
Speaker
Because I knew there was a 17 somewhere in this episode. That's awesome. yes it Yeah, Chandler helps him out, but Joey says, don't worry, going to pay you back this time. Because he is doing a fertility study at NYU.
00:21:37
Speaker
ah Much to the the gang's hilarity. They think this is very funny. Yeah. Well, and it starts off, he's like, science. and What kind of research? Science.
Barbecue Preferences
00:21:51
Speaker
I've heard of that. of that. It's a very good comeback from Ross. I like that one a lot. um Yeah, we go up to the girls' apartment and it's not immediately clear to me why they're having a barbecue, but then obviously we see it's Rachel's birthday.
00:22:05
Speaker
Yeah. But Chandler and Joey enter with the charcoal. That kind of, i mean we make fire. That's something that I mutter to myself whenever I fire up the fire pit when I'm camping or the barbecue.
00:22:18
Speaker
I just say it under my breath. But I love that line. I find that very, very funny. and And I had a question for you because we go we go camping fairly frequently and we always have the same kind of barbecue-esque foods when we go.
00:22:34
Speaker
So if you were going to a barbecue where there's the whole range of typical barbecue foods, what's your go-to thing? Is it the hot dog? Is it that a cheeseburger? what's what's your If you were going to fill your plate, what would it be at a barbecue?
00:22:51
Speaker
Oh, yeah. Uh, it, it really depends. Um, I have a very love hate relationship with meat. Um, and so normally ah like if I'm really like gonna consistently go for something, it's always going to be a side.
Ross's China Trip and Gift Debate
00:23:12
Speaker
I'm a big fan of the saints. Yeah. Like, yeah. and Yeah. Sometimes I'll be in the mood for a burger or I'll be in the mood for a hot dog.
00:23:23
Speaker
But not consistently and not it's it's not, know. Just not your thing. Not my thing. But I do enjoy going to barbecues, especially if they're by water of some sort.
00:23:37
Speaker
Absolutely. Absolutely. Couldn't agree more. um Yeah, so they're obviously theyre the getting the charcoal and all of that, getting ready for the barbecue for Rachel's birthday. But Joey's girlfriend, Melanie, calls she's going to be late. I can only assume that Joey and Chandler's phone has been was at Monica's apartment. Otherwise, how would she get that message?
00:24:00
Speaker
I wasn't sure if i missed something then. Like, that was odd that she knew that she was going to be late. Well, unless she just called, you know, as a courtesy, because that's where they were going.
00:24:13
Speaker
she just called Monica and said, you know, I'm going to be late. Right, that's true. She's the host. and she's She's always the host, is Monica. Always, always.
00:24:24
Speaker
Yeah, so then ros Ross arrives. He's announced that he has to go to China. The country, as Joey says. Box of dishes. that He's got to go for a week. It's a whole big bone thing. They've got the bone. The museum wants the bone.
00:24:40
Speaker
um And he gives Monica a picture of him, which is just odd. It's sweet. It's sweet, but... You know, um yeah. no I don't know if that's something I would do.
00:24:53
Speaker
I don't know. Just ah an odd one to give them a picture like that. Well, he's made such a big deal about wanting to be in his life and all that. Like, yeah. i Whenever our boys were babies, we had picture books like that were baby picture books.
00:25:11
Speaker
Right. We put pictures of like family members and close friends in so that they would see him often. Oh, that's fun thing. Yeah.
00:25:22
Speaker
So I don't know. ah That did not strike me as odd. and okay
Joey's Girlfriend and Rachel's Birthday
00:25:26
Speaker
was like, poor dude. Poor dude. And he had obviously just taken that picture and gotten it printed.
00:25:33
Speaker
Yeah, it did look like he'd just taken it and they printed it straight away. Yeah, because he was wearing the same outfit. Yeah. i mean I appreciate that he thought to do that.
00:25:45
Speaker
Yeah, be the good dad. Be the good dad is Ross. You're right there. um But then Monica lets him know that Rachel's not there. She's gone out with a guy called Carl, um who we will meet later on Yeah. I have feelings on Carl.
00:25:59
Speaker
Yeah. It's been, yeah, we'll discuss Rachel and her taste in weird guys right now. Right, yeah, it's another peculiar guy that she has obviously gone out with a couple of times, I'm guessing, at least once or twice um we see.
00:26:17
Speaker
But Ross goes out um and sees Joey and Chandler on the balcony and he's clearly bummed out about Rachel and um joey joey's i've only a got a few beers in me but i love you man like i love i really like that line and i liked the line and i feel like it was chanley that said it but he's like how could she do that when she's you she's never shown any interest in you know the shock the horror it's done yes Yes. Yeah. yeah
00:26:48
Speaker
like I've had a couple of beers that I love you. I've only had one beer. So I like, I think you're nice. I think you're nice. It's so good. So everyone except Ross ends up sitting around the table. Joey's girlfriend, Melanie, right?
00:27:03
Speaker
Yeah. Explains her fruit business. Do you remember what they call themselves? The three basketeers. You know, like the musketeers. The musketeers. i What a weird thing.
00:27:14
Speaker
saying Right, and she's nothing against her, nothing against the actress or the character or anything like that. But she doesn't seem like the kind of person Joey would go for to me.
00:27:27
Speaker
I didn't really get the dynamic against nothing against her.
Board Games and Reflections
00:27:32
Speaker
But she seems very sweet, like a you know lovely character, but just not usually who Joey would go for.
00:27:39
Speaker
Maybe. Because he's gone through his maternal or paternal excuse me paternal a situation, now his type has changed. Maybe.
00:27:50
Speaker
He's willing to try something, you know, you a different kind of lady he's bringing home. um because yes i mean She seems very sweet and nice enough. um But, yeah, she explains this fruit business. Not very bright.
00:28:04
Speaker
No. But they go to the living room and Rachel starts opening the gifts. um As you said, Joey gave her the book, The Old Places That You Will Go by Dr. Seuss, which Phoebe is very excited about.
00:28:20
Speaker
have and then, yeah, the travel scrabble. Which every time I see, I mean, I said I play Scrabble. I used to play, you know, Words with Friends on my phone, Kate, I would play that.
00:28:33
Speaker
But every time I see Scrabble on the television, I kind of go, God, I'd love to have a game of that. Like, that would be, you know, I'd i'd enjoy a game and then I don't do it. And at some point I need to, I just, I like that kind of game, but then never do it.
00:28:47
Speaker
Yeah. Not for you. You're not Scrabble?
Chandler's Meltdown and Airport Dash
00:28:51
Speaker
No. no do you enjoy do you enjoy board games i do enjoy board games i love board games and card games i i can i i love board games and card games but scrabble's not it for me right like i don't know what i loved words with friends like that was so fun words with friends is fantastic Now, will throw out there, while while we're talking board games, so when we so when we met Barry, Rachel's ex-fiancรฉe earlier in the season, did a little diving into Mitchell. Mitchell, what's his last name? they got The actor who plays Barry.
00:29:32
Speaker
And he actually has a board gaming podcast. um Yes. I think I mentioned it. It's only like 10 episodes in. It just started pretty recently, coincidentally. um And I appreciate board games.
00:29:46
Speaker
like I like them, but I don't really ever play them. um It's one of those things we'll occasionally sit down as a family. We'll play a game and like, oh, we should do this more often. And then we don't. But it's a really interesting podcast. It's called Positively Board Gaming.
00:30:00
Speaker
um And it's him and... A chap called Jamie, whose last name has also escaped me, who creates board games for a big company. Like he's a big player in the board gaming business.
00:30:13
Speaker
So it's quite interesting. um Yeah. But um yeah, Travel Scrabble back on track from Chandler to Rachel. And then that's when Ross's gift gets given to Rachel.
00:30:27
Speaker
And... and yeah And then it all happens. It all unravels thanks to Chandler. He starts to you know hyperventilate. and I don't know what the world Flynn is, but that's what he says when he struggles to breathe.
00:30:44
Speaker
I was like, what what is Flynn? like What was he attempting to say? He's just becoming unhinged. It was great. Unhinged Chandler's back. That's right.
00:30:56
Speaker
It's, uh, yeah. Who knows? how I was curious what he was supposed to say, or if it was just meant to be a nonsense word. But, uh, yeah, he has spilled the beans that just like when he bought the ridiculously expensive crystal duck for Carol, he has bought this for Rachel, the person he is indeed in love with.
00:31:14
Speaker
Um... And we kind of we're still in the girl's apartment, but Rachel's decided she has to go to the airport, even though everyone's telling her not to. The
Airport Scenes and Mandarin Class
00:31:24
Speaker
flight leaves in 45 minutes. Now, perhaps I'm just living too in the present, but there's no way and you could possibly catch somebody if their flight's taken off in 45 minutes if you live in Manhattan, let alone pretty much anywhere else.
00:31:41
Speaker
Right. Well, and that's what I was like, Do they all of a sudden not have traffic in New York to get you? Because he would have either been flying out of, look ah no.
00:31:56
Speaker
What are those? the There's two airports up there. Yeah, the main ones in New York, LaGuardia, JFK, and then Newark, just out in New Jersey. Those are the three main ones. And there is no way, no way that you're going to get there.
00:32:11
Speaker
And that they wouldn't have already boarded the plane. Because they start boarding 30 minutes before takeoff. And so... Well, and it's an international flight, so it's usually an hour before. Because the plane's so much bigger. See? Come on, guys.
00:32:29
Speaker
Yeah, and I know security is different these days, post 9-11, all of that. But still... Still, why they said 45 minutes when that's, I mean, it should be two hours, at least, at least I would think.
00:32:43
Speaker
um But speaking of the airport, we go straight over to the airport and Ross is using it. Oh, I love the part where Chandler is rubbing his temples and he's like freaking out and everything and enjoying it. So like, yeah, keep doing that. yeah It'll help you turn ah go back in time or. That's right. Turn back time. Turn back time.
00:33:06
Speaker
It's a great line. I forgot about that. I that I think it's like catching on the back. yeah Yes, but that was such a Chandler line. That right there. Like, had the rules been reversed, Chandler totally would have said that.
00:33:21
Speaker
Absolutely. Whoever was having their meltdowns. ah You're exactly right. that ah Yeah, it was a very clever one-liner from Joey. um Ross is using like a, I can only assume, you know, learn Chinese on tape.
00:33:39
Speaker
And I tried to look, I tried to use a Google Translate to catch what he was saying. I couldn't do it. So i did Google it. And there's only be a couple of people who have translated what Ross was saying and they have different answers.
00:33:53
Speaker
So we don't really know, but the most logical one is what is your name? Somebody said it's that. The other translation I saw was something about a house. So what is your name seem more likely, like if you were trying to, you know, just learn some basics for a trip to China.
00:34:09
Speaker
Right. You know, what is your name seems like a fundamental thing. but So my dad and I took a Mandarin Chinese class.
00:34:22
Speaker
I don't know. it's It's been quite a few years at this point. But um a lot ah it was it's a very difficult language because nothing translates exactly.
Airport Message Mistake
00:34:38
Speaker
Right. like So our our knowledge You know, we we'll still say some certain phrases to each other, you know, every once in a while. But um yeah, it's ah it's it's hard.
00:34:53
Speaker
It's nothing like the the Latin languages. Right. Yeah, it's not, you wouldn't, I wouldn't know where to start.
00:35:04
Speaker
It's, ah yeah, to my angle, is incredibly complex and doesn't make sense. So it's, a yeah, good for you and your dad, though, you know, but don to trying something new. That's tremendous.
00:35:19
Speaker
Yeah, um it was it was fun. So Rachel basically tries to run down the jetway, which, again, in this day and age, would have you thrown in the airport prison. 100%. You know, trying to... The fact that you even got that close to the gate without a ticket, how dare you? Right.
00:35:36
Speaker
Right. Again, a different world nowadays. But she gives the message to the ticketing agent. And my thought for you that I didn't write down, but i'm glad I've remembered now. is what clue did Rachel or what description to the ticketing agent that made the ticketing agent think that this old guy with his wife was indeed Ross?
00:35:57
Speaker
Yeah, it's just the guy in the blue jacket that just went in there. Right, okay. So they both had a blue jacket on. okay Yeah, but like neither one of them were really blue. like It was a dark, dark, dark navy blue.
00:36:11
Speaker
But that was it. Yeah, it was just it was odd that she would mistake ah one for the other. You know, the older married guy for Ross. I
Melanie and Joey's Commitment
00:36:23
Speaker
don't know. thought that yeah that was odd.
00:36:25
Speaker
ah Well, Ross had moved. Like, he was up against the wall. And so whenever she was probably standing there at the top of the jetway and looked down...
00:36:38
Speaker
right That was probably the first blue jacket that she saw. Right, that's true. He was standing next to his wife, so he was sticking out. That's true. But yeah, I'm like, how strange that you would think that yeah that's him.
00:36:55
Speaker
don't know. It's a peculiar one to me. I kind of went re-watching this. I was thinking, how funny would it be if they could re-film all the stuff with hindsight if they had Russ?
00:37:07
Speaker
in there remember russ and some guy going who's rachel baby russ that would have been funny but um yeah a peculiar one um but we go from that moment to a a weird scene they're not you know with joey's bedroom with melanie um she she's just an oddball and again it's not that she's not a nice character or anything like that.
00:37:35
Speaker
See, I think she's just so different. Yeah. I can't quite get my head around it. ah The line where goes, somebody's going to get a big fruit basket tomorrow is a cringy line. I don't like that one at all.
00:37:48
Speaker
Yeah. no I don't know why it bothers me. Well,
OJ Simpson Trial Reference
00:37:52
Speaker
she's just an odd character. An odd duck. Joey is struggling to keep along with the science rules, as I said, but he he does it.
00:38:01
Speaker
He does it because he's there for her. And and that's that's that. He he keeps his word to the NYU science lab. um so So good for him. We bounce back over to the girl's apartment and Monica is asking Rachel she's going to go for it with Ross.
00:38:19
Speaker
um and rachel doesn't really know what to do at this point she's very caught between two places um monica is obviously very excited about this possibility but rachel's and and then rachel says that her gut is telling her it really would be a great thing to do or how great it would be um But it was quite funny how then she's going out with, I think she's going out with Carl again.
00:38:47
Speaker
and Monica's like, I need my brother's back. Like, how dare she? Yeah, because it's Carl that that rings the bell. It's me, Carl. Right. youre calm um I do like this scene back in the boys' apartment where Joey comes out and Chandler's like, hey, big.
00:39:08
Speaker
And Joey tells him to be quiet. Spender. yeah and have I just love this conversation. like Joey's had this monumental awakening. ah What it's like to not be selfish over the Crunch Berries.
00:39:21
Speaker
um He's enjoying things on another level. um like you can tell he genuinely has had his mind blown by by this revelation that you could not be selfish in the bedroom and um he's just got to share this news with chandler um yeah he's he's a bag i do like ah just sitting there having cereal first thing in the morning and he's he's just got to unload this this newfound knowledge on chandler um
00:39:53
Speaker
Well, and what what's funny is i he's looking at a magazine. He's got a magazine there with a cereal and everything else. And he picks up the magazine and he goes, and he looks at it because he's obviously done with that conversation at that point. Right. And he's like, something going on with OJ? And I thought that was so funny.
00:40:18
Speaker
And i'm I'm scrolling through the and the script. like while we're we're talking. And that line, because I wrote it down in my in my notes and i circled it and put it laughing emoji night or not but like a laughing face next to it because I thought that was so funny.
00:40:38
Speaker
Because, yeah, right then, there was a lot going on with the OJ. and um But you don't have that line. i don't have that line.
00:40:49
Speaker
They took that line out. Interesting. uh-huh yeah that's so fun yeah that was the height pretty much the height of oj fever wasn't it just about at that time uh-huh because what this episode was may 18th 1995 and so um hang on it keep it keep going i'll pop up with the oh yeah you're gonna look at yeah i would oh yeah i am because I forgot that that was something I wanted to... would have had to deep dive into that if I'd seen that bit of the scene where OJ's being mentioned.
00:41:25
Speaker
To me, that's mid-90s, so obviously that tracks, but don't know the exact year. Yeah. We went in California right after it happened because my dad was living in El Segundo, California, which is right off the, what is that, I-10, which is where the the chase happened.
00:41:45
Speaker
Right. Right. and But ah yeah, I was like, oh my gosh, that is so funny. Right. Again, another sort of good cultural reference at the time. um yeah Yeah, so you look that one up. It was 94 that he got arrested okay and charged.
00:42:05
Speaker
ah He was acquitted of the charges in 95. But maybe they filmed this late 94, early 90, you know, wonder what the filming schedule would be.
00:42:17
Speaker
Probably right during the trial. Right. Yeah. Because, ah okay, the trial ended April 26th. Oh, wait, no.
00:42:28
Speaker
Yeah. But that's probably like, it was right then. Right then. So that's funny. Oh, the trial January 24th, 1995, it was done October 1995. and january twenty fourth nineteen ninety five and it was done october third nineteen ninety five So it was right in the middle and out of the trial.
00:42:47
Speaker
Excellent. So that makes perfect sense. They probably knew when they wrote the script that the joke would still track in whatever it would be months time. yeah That's so funny.
00:42:58
Speaker
But yeah, so that's so weird that they took it out. I guess it's not because if you're appealing to younger audiences, right the OJ thing wouldn't mean might know yeah what it means to us.
Rachel's Dating Pressure
00:43:13
Speaker
Right. That's interesting. Yeah, that must be a deliberate choice to take that one out. um Well, we go back over to the girl's apartment. Rachel's decided that you dating Ross just wouldn't be a great idea. There's too much pressure.
00:43:27
Speaker
ah wait but wait. Oh, wait. Oh, wait. There's more. Tell me. Whenever she talks about the skirt that she exchanged,
00:43:40
Speaker
yes monica gave her the blouse and she's like oh no you got me the skirt i exchanged it um yeah this just this is why rachel has the list this is why that's right here because this is her first birthday with all of them and all of their presents except for ross were terrible and i think it's ross later that tells somebody stick to, oh, it's whenever she turns 30 and yeah she's dating the young guy.
00:44:11
Speaker
And he's like, stick to the list, stick to the list. Yes, and another time where it's, what I can't remember the event. Oh, it's they're all exchanging names for Secret Santa and nobody wants Rachel because she exchanges everything. And Ross says, oh, no, she loved that purse or whatever it was until the big dog ate it or the big dog ran away with it you know or something. yeah So this tracks throughout the whole series, doesn't it?
00:44:38
Speaker
And it totally tracks with Rachel. Yeah. Yeah, her character. I love it. Absolutely. And even now that we're talking about this, when Ross and Rachel break up one of the times, you know, she yeah, she's like, I might exchange gifts, but i keep things that matter. And she has that box of sentimental ah bits and pieces.
00:44:58
Speaker
So she might exchange gifts, but yeah, keeps the important things. ah
Joey's Success and Growth
00:45:03
Speaker
But she feels there'd be too much pressure because she'd sort of be dating the whole gang. um Yeah. Yeah.
00:45:10
Speaker
um And, you know i think Monica tries to convince her that she'll behave. She'll be good. um But, yeah, definitely. Rachel is very much torn at this point.
00:45:21
Speaker
um We go back over. I don't know why I find this particularly funny. I think it's the delivery in the boys' apartment where there's Joey is or Chandler's surrounded by the fruit. Yeah.
00:45:32
Speaker
Obviously, ah gift from Melanie is a thank you for the for how well Joey has been taking care of her, treating her well. um He's just like, hey, do we have any fruit?
00:45:43
Speaker
It's not a simple joke. it's not It's not a clever highbrow joke, but the delivery is great. It is just part of the conversation, and it's so ridiculous. It's a ridiculous amount of baskets.
00:45:58
Speaker
right so Do you guys eat whenever... Do y'all buy a lot of, like, fresh fruit, fresh produce? I would say, you know, an average amount.
00:46:08
Speaker
Do y'all eat it all, all the time? So what, it's funny you should mention this. um Because what happens is we eat most of it. and then there's But there's always something that ends some that ends up getting thrown away.
00:46:20
Speaker
Always something. So, funnily enough, Lulu just asked me... um I told her was going to Kroger, local supermarket, um to pick up some watermelon.
00:46:31
Speaker
and But part of my summer routine is I'm going to the gym most days, and it's next door to Kroger, so I often pop in just to see what's on sale. So instead of going and buying one huge watermelon that we have to cut up and then eat eat it pretty quickly, I told her I'll just get her a small, yeah know, like a little...
00:46:49
Speaker
I'd call a punnet, a little thing of ah watermelon, but not to worry. you know I'll be going in the next two days. I'll be going often. So I'll just pick up a small thing so none of it goes to waste because yeah, that often happens. We get a bunch of grapes. We eat 75% of them, but rarely do we finish all of them.
00:47:07
Speaker
Yes, yes. It's exactly the same at our house. And i I'm just, I'm irritated by the amount of waste That all those baskets are going to create. Because it is two men in an apartment.
00:47:22
Speaker
I cannot imagine that they eat ah more fruit than a family of four. yes You know what I mean? Like, come on. both have to eat at least, I mean, a basket a day each to get through. don't know, was there a dozen or 15 baskets?
00:47:38
Speaker
So that gives them a week. But I mean, it's justs just madness at this point. They're going have to give them all away. So, yeah. so that's just me being a hater, but that's okay. Yeah, that's okay. um But Joey's very proud. He walks in with his $700 check.
00:47:55
Speaker
um Like he has, he has made it. He has survived. He is a, but now he's, he's a blind man. Who's got his sight back. Um, sort of analogy that he uses, which is tremendous. So
Carl's Character Amusement
00:48:10
Speaker
I do think, i mean, Joey, again, we've talked to this before. i think he's got actually quite high morals and ethics. If he says he's going to do something, he does it. Um,
00:48:21
Speaker
you know Yes, he's got all these women, that but I don't think he ever lies or misleads them. I'm sure there's... what he We do find out he does lie sometimes. But he said to the science people he was going to do this, and he did it.
00:48:34
Speaker
So ah good good for Joey. um And then we kind of meet Carl, right? We're out on the balcony. Rachel's out there thinking about Ross. Carl comes across as an absolute knucklehead.
00:48:47
Speaker
um Yeah, he is. Like just loud and brash and obnoxious and just wants to hear. And judgmental. Yeah. Very judgmental. Because, I don't know, do you know who Ed Bagley Jr. is?
00:49:01
Speaker
If you had asked me about three hours ago, I would have said no. But I did do a little digging into him and what the reference to this this this car was. Yes. Yes. So tell me what you know about him because I just know a little Okay.
00:49:15
Speaker
So Ed Begley Jr., he was an actor. He was on St. Elsewhere. when ah He was a very handsome doctor on St. Elsewhere whenever I was a kid. Okay. But so he's, you know, an actor, but he also, he's a huge environmentalist.
00:49:32
Speaker
That's what I was reading about was his environmental work. Yes. But that's as far as my knowledge of Ed Begley Jr. is. But I feel like they bring him up another time in this series. So I'll just have to keep my ears peeled.
00:49:48
Speaker
We'll give a mental note of of looking for that. no he bought he's He's an environmentalist in lots of ways. like He avoids planes and things if he can. But really electric cars, as Carl mentions, are his thing. He bought his first one in 1970.
00:50:04
Speaker
Wow. He said it was basically a glorified golf cart, but it it went about 15 miles an hour and could last about 15 miles. And that was it.
00:50:15
Speaker
um But it was technically an the electric car. And he's only had electric cars since then. He's often driven the prototypes, you know the very first ones to be released because he was an actor. So it would give the company some publicity.
00:50:29
Speaker
Now has a Tesla, but has only done electric cars um because he's very, very conscious of his carbon footprint. But
Rachel's Airport Confession
00:50:37
Speaker
old Carl is very much against this.
00:50:40
Speaker
You know, he's going to be the guy stuck behind him in traffic. He's sick and seeing sick of seeing his electric car. ah he judge Yeah, judgy. Yeah, Carl is, yeah.
00:50:51
Speaker
And Uki. Well, there's something about him that is ooky, which also reminds me of the ooky doctor. But the ooky doctor was handsome. This guy is not.
00:51:03
Speaker
Like, he just looks like a slimeball to me. He does. He just looks creepy. And they've already been out. So this is not the first date. Rachel's obviously agreed to, yeah, to to see him again. at at least twice.
00:51:16
Speaker
But then we have this kind of... Ross making an appearance in Rachel's dream um about, you know, kind of convincing her as the right word, war but certainly letting her know that they should, you know, give it a shot.
00:51:31
Speaker
And the only, I do quite like, it's quite a romantic line, you know, yes, I've never, what does he It's he's always broken up with everyone, but it just has to happen once. Yes.
00:51:42
Speaker
It's a very romantic line. like I quite like that one. And then Ross kisses her in this, it's not a dream, hallucination maybe, whatever it is. um And Rachel realizes it's time to go.
00:51:55
Speaker
um you know She has to has to go and meet Ross at the gate, at the airport. um which is Which is kind of where we, certainly for me, this is where we end the season. we Rachel's waiting there.
00:52:09
Speaker
And you're very excited. I have a whole scene. ah have a whole scene. Oh, what do you have? Wow. Okay. So then she leaves. um ah She tells Carl, you know, you can finish your drink.
00:52:24
Speaker
And, but I've got to go get my friend at the airport. And so then she goes into the apartment to get her stuff. And Monica's like, where are you going? And, you know, she's putting on the pen and then she's putting on her jacket.
00:52:37
Speaker
And she's like, you know, Monica, you can have the rest of my date. I'm not going to finish it. And she's like, he's not a sandwich. And he's like, yeah, he's an investment baker with tickets to the opera.
Season One's Airport Cliffhanger
00:52:49
Speaker
And so Monica's like, hey.
00:52:51
Speaker
Well, then Rachel leaves the apartment and runs into Chandler. And Chandler's like, where are you going? And she says she's going to the airport. And so he starts telling her, no, don't. There's so much stuff I've got to do in my life.
00:53:06
Speaker
And then he brings up Yasmeen Blee in Baywatch because he hasn't watched it yet. and um And then Rachel's like, stop. It's a good trip to the airport. It's a good thing.
00:53:19
Speaker
And he's like, um oh, you know, go on. Go on. Fly like the wind, good woman. and then um And then he's like, ah you know, and so he's like all excited. And then he's like, don't forget to tell him I'm the one that blew it.
00:53:35
Speaker
And then he calls himself the love doctor. And that's where my scene ends. Wow. Wow. Okay. So Monica and Chandler know that she's going to the airport.
00:53:51
Speaker
Wow. It's completely different. I mean, I don't have... It's Rachel running at the door and then that's it. Until there's a quick a quick scene at the airport where all we see is Rachel nervously waiting with some flowers and then it cuts to the jetway where Julie drops something. We don't know she's with Ross yet.
00:54:10
Speaker
Yeah, it's her bag. Yeah, bag and then Ross picks it up and obviously they're together. Yeah. and And that's it. That's... a That's the end of season one.
00:54:22
Speaker
We end on that cliffhanger, sort ah of, of what's going to happen. Is Rachel going to say anything? How can she with Julie there? We will discover
Listener Feedback on Julie
00:54:31
Speaker
all on the premiere of season two. um Yeah.
00:54:35
Speaker
Which is variable it's it's it's very odd to finish season one. um Now tell me, do what you know what? I'm always wondering i'm going to forget listener mail. We have a couple of pieces of listener mail.
00:54:49
Speaker
So let me... Yeah, we do. Way to go, listeners. Yes, we do. i am going to go here. I'm going to open this up right now. I've made sure Facebook was shut so it didn't ding while we were recording. So here's hoping it doesn't happen again. But a quick reminder, if you're on Facebook and you'd love to get involved in some conversations, just look up the Purple Door Podcast Club.
00:55:12
Speaker
We have a group there. and We're going to post you know what we're talking about each week, and we'd love your thoughts so we can share them. um So Kate, my darling wife, wrote, I think that the writers did an amazing job with this episode. It would be so easy to dislike Julie for taking Ross away from Rachel.
00:55:30
Speaker
Julie was so well-written and likable that the audience couldn't turn on her. So well done. Now, a lot of that will actually apply to the next episode where we really get to meet Julie. But I think that's quite a common thing. um Yeah, go ahead.
00:55:43
Speaker
Oh, I was just going to say, you know, even with just the short little... a scene with her whenever Ross is like, you know I can't wait for you to meet my friends and she's like so they can judge and ridicule me and you know, shit she's likable just in that little clip right there, you know, and but then at the same time you're like, dang,
00:56:06
Speaker
But then you're like, Rachel Boo. Exactly. And I will say, I must say, this is actually my fault because on our Facebook page, the only decent little snippet of Julie could find was from the next episode um where Julie's talking because I wanted you to post something with her talking.
00:56:24
Speaker
So Kate's response and Veronica, who we'll get to a second, Really, they're talking about the clip I posted, um which is the next one. So it's very much my fault that this is more in the next episode. But Veronica Zahorikova, our good friend, said that she liked it and she likes Julie. She thinks they're cute together. ah um And she she likes how Rachel for once was kind of put in a different position.

think they've hinted this before, that Rachel doesn't know what it's like to be turned down by a guy. Or a guy that says no to... Not

that Ross really turns her down at this point, but to not do what she wants. But she's decided what she wants and no longer wants her.
00:57:06
Speaker
Indeed, indeed. um Who would be your Gunther Central Park of this episode, Dianne? What do you think? So I had a hard time.
00:57:17
Speaker
I'm going to be honest. i'm I'm going to be honest because... a You know, Rachel, like, I liked the fact that she kind of was, like, going back and forth. She was thinking about all the angles, which is not really something that she typically does, you know? True. And so I liked that. But then, ah you know, like, really, you have to give all your friends a list of your gifts because you hate them all.
00:57:44
Speaker
Right. You know, so, i and then Phoebe just, she wasn't really in there. She wasn't much. good phoebe situation um i am going to go with chandmbler for this episode okay i really enjoyed all of his quick funny o i don't know though because now i'm thinking about monica but i do have chandler written down just because he made me laugh yeah numerous times throughout this episode
00:58:18
Speaker
and And Unhinged Chandler is always a good Chandler. We do love Unhinged Chandler. I think i when we make Purple Door ah podcast t-shirts for the masses one day, we'll we'll have to have something about Unhinged Chandler.
00:58:33
Speaker
Oh, yes. That's become our unofficial motto, I feel. We love Unhinged Chandler. And he was actually he was my second choice for my Gunther Central Park of the Week podcast.
00:58:43
Speaker
for Again, we got your fruit and some of the other one-liners that just a delivery for me. Yeah. um But actually, ah contrary a little bit to what I said earlier, I am going to go with Ross.
00:58:56
Speaker
um Okay. You are completely correct about it was sweet that he left a picture for Ben. um I like the โ what are the things? There's three things. Oh, the gift, the thoughtful gift for Rachel.
00:59:12
Speaker
um And he wanted her to have it even though she he wasn't there. He could have saved until he got back, but he wanted her to have it quickly. And then the the the line in Rachel's hallucination dream, um and it wasn't creepy. think sometimes Ross can be a little oogie, but I don't think it was.
00:59:32
Speaker
i think it was like, you know, just take a chance. Hallucination Ross, we're a fan of. Yes, hallucination Ross. That's right. Another t-shirt idea. and like it.
00:59:44
Speaker
Hallucination Ross is the best Ross. That's right. Poor old Ross. don't know. I mean, Ross, for me, Ross was hardly even in the episodes.
Season One Reflection and Gratitude
00:59:55
Speaker
Yeah, he was. It's funny because the last episode... the one with the bath was equally difficult for me to have a Gunther Central Park but for different reasons but for completely different reasons because I liked everybody in that other episode and in this episode I struggled yes it was difficult well on that note we're having our final you know cups of coffee for the season how many cups of coffee would you give this
01:00:27
Speaker
Okay. So I had started off saying seven, but as we have gone through this episode and, um, my episode was better than your episode.
01:00:38
Speaker
It was sounds like it. It just simply was. So I give it ah so it gets an extra half a cup just because it's, there were some extra things in mind that just kind of added to it.
01:00:55
Speaker
Like yeah the OJ line and um The whole opening scene um and then the Rachel running out scene. So that's going to earn my and an extra half a cup.
01:01:08
Speaker
So you're coming in at seven and a half. Seven and a half. um I'm bouncing between two numbers. And yeah, I think I i mean, it tracks along with what you said. I'm coming in at a six.
01:01:23
Speaker
um I think if this episode had been the mid-season, maybe six and a half. But I think when you have a season finale, we we should have been crescendoing over the last few episodes to some big, you know, big, great episode at the end.
01:01:38
Speaker
So there's extra pressure on this episode and it just didn't cut it for me. you It was a bit of a letdown. Like I said, mid-season, this would be a six and a half, possibly a seven, but it's a six, a solid six for me. Yeah.
01:01:52
Speaker
And so, you know, last, last episode, you talked about how the last episode had originally was supposed to be the season finale.
01:02:05
Speaker
Correct. And then they did this one. And, man, and, which makes sense because the last episode was so good. Right. It was so good. There was so much to it.
01:02:20
Speaker
Um, But yeah at the same time, if we didn't no how it all ends, would we still feel the same way about this episode?
01:02:33
Speaker
Exactly. Exactly. So we we can't judge them too much. Yeah. um But, you know, for for the purposes of the Purple Door podcast,
01:02:45
Speaker
Indeed. You know, that that was a sad choice. Yes. yes yeah But in the light of nobody knowing what was going to happen next. Right.
01:02:58
Speaker
Right. Now I agree with you. Well, yeah, that's us. I mean, we have wrapped up season one, except for before we start season two, we will have a season one recap special.
01:03:13
Speaker
We are going to discuss exactly what that looks like, but there will be trivia. There will be just general conversation with guests ah about season one, things we loved, things we didn't love.
01:03:23
Speaker
And I'm really excited to sort of celebrate this first milestone. Um, We may have talked about this on air. I'm not sure, but the average podcast lasts just under 10 episodes ah before people fizzle out and they give up or they they don't feel like it's, they don't have instant success whatever that looks like.
01:03:42
Speaker
um But we are, I think actually 26 episodes in because we had we had our bonus with the bowlings. We had our live episode. Oh, and our super fan episode. um So we're 27 episodes in and I love doing this more than ever.
01:03:58
Speaker
So, right. Absolutely. uh, I'm excited. i think, yeah, maybe because we felt success immediately. Because we're like, wait a minute, this is actually really fun. Right. This is tremendous fun from the very beginning.
01:04:13
Speaker
Yeah. um So, yeah, we'll try and we'll get, and we've already got a few friends who have said they would love to be on a few people who are fans of the podcast. I'll try and get Steve on um for a little season one recap. yeah Yes, Steve. Yes. So, Willis, Deanne, you and Steve can meet. Yes.
01:04:32
Speaker
I think that'd be tremendous. So yeah, have you got any thoughts about this episode before we finish up? ah No, I don't.
Signing Off and Season Two Tease
01:04:42
Speaker
um No, that I feel like we talked through everything.
01:04:46
Speaker
But yeah, you need to go and watch ah watch the your DVD version. I will do that. sounds like- Even though I've already ruined it all. No, but i need to see it. I need to see it. you They cut out the important parts. so So I will do that.
01:05:01
Speaker
But on that note, everybody, thank you for seeing through season one with us. And thank you for tuning into this episode of the Purple Door Podcast.
