Introduction to Daily Bible Reading

00:00:03
Speaker
Hello, everyone. Welcome to Saturday, February 1st, 2025. You are here with Robin at In the Family Way Coaching, and we're here for our daily Bible reading. We have been reading the Bible every day this year, and we're going to do it the entire year, and we're going to be reading through the Day by Day Kids Bible, and it's been written by Karen Henley.

Format of the Day by Day Kids Bible

00:00:27
Speaker
If you are unfamiliar with this particular version of the Bible, it is in storybook form. It is in chronological order, as we will see today, that we will be heading into some Leviticus, as well as some Numbers, in addition to our Exodus readings today, because the Bible is not always presented chronologically. And we are going to be um using our calendar as well,
00:00:56
Speaker
So if you have your calendar, today is February 1st and I have my sticker put on there today. You might not have your calendar in the mail yet ah since I just got them mailed yesterday and or you'll be picking it up from me tomorrow. So don't dismay, you'll have your calendar soon and then you'll be able to mark off today's date.

Acknowledgment of Audience

00:01:21
Speaker
Thank you so much for joining me today. I'm so glad you're with me, whether you are finding me on YouTube or TikTok, whether you are listening from Zencaster or whether you have found me on Spotify or Facebook or whether you're watching from my site. Can't remember if I said my site already. I might've said that twice.
00:01:39
Speaker
I am so glad you're here with me today. And I'm so glad that you are making the choice to read the Bible every day this year.

Purpose of Daily Readings

00:01:46
Speaker
And I'm hoping that you are seeing a lot of how God is using our daily reading in our daily lives.
00:01:54
Speaker
That is the point of this Bible reading, is not just to read the whole Bible in a year, but to show how God is going to be using everything that we read about and show us how it is applicable to our daily lives, whether we are six or whether we are 10 or whether we are 15 or 30 or 40 or 60 or 80 or 100. I don't think we have anybody who's 100, but it's still applicable. If we get anybody who's 100, you let me know.
00:02:25
Speaker
Thank you for being here with me. I'm just very happy to be here. I'm sorry that this is a late day posting. ah Sometimes I just don't have time in the morning. I work really hard to do it in the morning before I go to work, but sometimes it just doesn't happen. So thankfully I had only a short shift today and I was able to get home in time to get this out this evening.
00:02:46
Speaker
Tomorrow I have a very early shift and oftentimes when I have very early shifts such as Sundays and Mondays, I am usually getting them out at about this time as well ah or earlier because I will be working from 6.30 a.m. to 11 a.m. tomorrow and on Monday. So ah you won't see it posted quite as early in the day as when I don't have to leave until after 10.

Construction of Worship Tent and Ark

00:03:16
Speaker
So today we are going to be seeing, ah yesterday we saw that God was set up the directions for how to build the meeting tent and how to build the ark. And today he is um going to be gathering all of those materials. he He already started that process and said that the people were to gather them and bring them. And now Moses is going to inform them that they need to be bringing these items And then we will seek the people making them. We will also see once they finish this task that God will be setting out some very, very specific rules that he expects them to follow just the way he is telling them.
00:04:04
Speaker
And they are very specific to ah the sin atonement. And there is fellowship offering. And he is he gives a lot of very detailed instructions that are not gone over completely in our version of the Bible. But if you are interested in reading more in depth, then by all means, always get out your big Bible. ah For those of you who feel led and are hungry for more of God's word,
00:04:33
Speaker
And you will be able to find, ah let's see, in the directions and the and the rules are mostly in Leviticus 8 through 10. And yeah, that so ah we will get to the other portions as well. That's just the part that covers the rules that God gave for the consecration of the meeting tent that they were building.
00:05:01
Speaker
And we will see what happens when God's very specific rules are not followed. This was a very important time in the Israelite nation where God was setting them up with how they were to worship him. They weren't supposed to do it their way or do things that they wanted to do. God is very specific as to how he wants worshiping him to be done.
00:05:31
Speaker
So let's go ahead and get started here and we will begin with Exodus 35 through 40. So we will actually be finishing, I believe the book of Exodus today. I read a little bit ahead to to to tomorrow just to kind of see where we were and ah we are completely done with Exodus it looks like today. So congratulations, we not only finished the month out yesterday and started a new month today, but we are going to be finishing the book of Exodus today.
00:06:03
Speaker
So today, the first section of February 1st is entitled, Rich Gifts and Hard Work, from Exodus 35 through 40. Then Moses told the people to bring gifts for God. These were gifts God wanted for making the worship tent. Gold and silver and other metal. Blue, purple, and red yarn.
00:06:30
Speaker
goat hair and ramskins and goatskins, wood and olive oil and beautiful shiny stones. Moses said, I want people who are good at making things. Come and make what God wants for his worship tent. Make the covers.
00:06:51
Speaker
make the bases and posts, make the arc box and lamp stand, make oil for the light, make clothes for the priests. So everyone who wanted to work came. Men and women came. They brought gifts. They brought rings and pins and earrings and armbands and necklaces.
00:07:19
Speaker
They brought yarn and animal skins. They brought gold and silver. Moses said that God chose one man to be a special worker. God filled him with his spirit. God made him good at art.
00:07:37
Speaker
He knows how to work with gold and silver. He knows how to cut and set stones. He knows how to work with wood. God has made him to be a good teacher. God made another man good at working with cloth and he can sew and he is a good teacher too. So these men can work on the tent and they can teach others how to help them.
00:08:07
Speaker
Moses told the people how to build the worship tent. So they began working. But people kept bringing their gifts every morning. At last the workers said, the people have brought more than enough. So Moses said, don't bring anything else. Then people stopped bringing their gifts. The workers kept building the worship tent. They made the covers and the bases and the curtains.
00:08:37
Speaker
They made the ark box and the table and the lamp stand. They made the altars and the oil and the washing bowl. They made the clothes for the priests. They did everything just the way God had told Moses to do it. When they were finished, they set the worship tent up. They put the ark box in it. They put the altars and lamp stands in it. They put the table and the washing bowl inside.
00:09:07
Speaker
They set it up just the way moses had God had told Moses to.

Judgment on Unauthorized Worship

00:09:13
Speaker
Then the cloud came down on the worship tent. God's greatness filled it. No one could go in, not even Moses.
00:09:26
Speaker
Leviticus 8 through 10. Then Moses brought Aaron to the front of the worship tent. All the people gathered to watch. Moses put the long shirt on Aaron. He put the belt around him. He put the robe and vest on him. He put the cap on Aaron's head. Then he put oil on Aaron's head. And this showed that Aaron had special work to do for God. Moses put long shirts on Aaron's sons too. He put belts on Aaron's sons. He gave he gave them their caps.
00:10:06
Speaker
They gave gifts to God on the altars. They gave a bull and two rams. Moses told Aaron, cook the meat at the front of the tent. Eat it there. Stay at the front of the tent for seven days and nights. Do what God wants because this is what God has told me. So Aaron and his son stayed there. Seven days and nights passed.
00:10:36
Speaker
Then all the people came to the front of the worship tent. Aaron lifted up his hands. He prayed to God to bring good things to his people. Then Moses and Aaron went inside the tent. When they came out, God's greatness was there. All the people saw it. Fire came from God. It burned up the meat and that was the meat that was on the altar.
00:11:04
Speaker
The people shouted with joy. They bowed down with their faces to the ground. But two of Aaron's sons did not obey God. They put fire in their offering bowls. It was fire that God had not told them to use. So fire came up from God and burned up Aaron's two sons. Moses talked to God, to Aaron,
00:11:33
Speaker
Moses talked to Aaron and he said that God told him these words. I will show myself as special to people who come to me. People will worship and obey me. Aaron did not say anything. Aaron had two other sons who were helping him and Moses spoke to Aaron and his two sons.
00:11:57
Speaker
Don't drink wine when you go into the worship tent. You have to teach the people God's rules.
00:12:06
Speaker
Now here's where we're gonna start numbers, because remember this Bible is chronological.

Instructions on Camping and Traveling

00:12:12
Speaker
Numbers one through three and eight, camping under the flags. God told Moses, count the people, count all the men who are 20 years old or older.
00:12:27
Speaker
They can be in the army. So Moses counted the people. One man from each family group helped him count. But they didn't count the people from Levi's family group because God had put them in charge of the worship tent. They would take it down when the people traveled and they would set it up when the people stopped. God said to Moses, get Levi's whole family group. Take them to Aaron. They will help him work in the worship tent.
00:12:57
Speaker
They will work there. They can start working when they are 25 years old. They must stop working there when they turn 50 years old. God said, the people will camp around the worship tent. Each family group will camp under its own flag. So Judah's family flag group camped east of the tent. So did the family groups of Issachar and Zebulun.
00:13:27
Speaker
When they traveled, the family groups of Judah led them. They went first. Reuben's family group camped south of the tent, and so did the family groups of Simeon and Gad. Reuben's group led them. They followed the families, camped on the east. The family group of Levi would come next. They would bring the worship tent.
00:13:55
Speaker
Ephraim's family group camped west of the tent. So did the family groups of Manasseh and Benjamin. Ephraim's group led them. They followed the group of Levi. Dan's family group camped north of the tent. So did the family groups of Asher and Naftali. Dan's group led them. They followed the families that camped on the west. And that's the way they traveled.
00:14:23
Speaker
Each group camped under its own flag. The people traveled with their own family group. And that is the end of our reading today.
00:14:39
Speaker
So we have a a little bit too that we can talk about today. And remember I mentioned in the beginning that God was giving them very specific rules in which he wanted things done.
00:14:53
Speaker
And before he had everything done, the people were working on it. And I wanted to point out that remember when the Egyptian people gave the Israelite people the everything that they asked for, and God made the Egyptian people think well of them. So they gave them whatever they asked for. And God provided all of the necessary materials that they would need in order to make the worship tent.
00:15:23
Speaker
and the ark. And not only that, but there was so much the people didn't have to keep bringing it. They had already brought too much and they still have more to bring. So as is often we find with God is that when he gives, he gives very generously. Sometimes we get just enough for the day.
00:15:45
Speaker
And that's why we have our prayer, give us today our daily bread. Give us enough for today. We don't have to worry about to tomorrow. Sometimes when he gives us gifts, he gives us abundantly.
00:15:59
Speaker
And so we too are to give because God is ultimately the one who has provided everything. What if the people had been selfish and and not wanted to share their riches?
00:16:10
Speaker
That would have been a very selfish thing to do and it wouldn't have been right because they didn't earn them those gold and and silver and jewels and necklaces and pins and earrings and bracelets and all the different types of jewelry or the claw. God provided it to them.
00:16:28
Speaker
And ultimately God provides everything that we have for us too. And so I want to encourage us that when needs arise and we are asked to give that we not give ah just a little that we give our best and that we give what we have because and we should do so selflessly because ultimately God has provided more than enough of what we need to share.
00:16:54
Speaker
Then

Obedience and Provision

00:16:55
Speaker
we get to the part where God is giving specific directions and the tent has been made. And Aaron's sons, two of them, did not obey God. And God's judgment was very fast. They were trying to do something that God had not told them to do. They brought their own bowls of fire. And in the big Bible, it says that they also put incense in the fire. So they were bringing a type of offering to God.
00:17:25
Speaker
And it was not authorized by God. He did not say to do that. So um at this particular time, God only wanted them to bring certain things, and he wanted them to do it his way. And it was very important that he was very strict with them, or they would just start doing whatever they wanted. He needed to show them.
00:17:47
Speaker
his power and his insistence that they obey exactly how they were told. There's no reason for people to start doing what they want. It's God who is being worshiped and he needed it done his way and he had that right. And Aaron was wise, he did not say anything when Moses talked to him and told him what to do and said that God will be obeyed and he will show that he is special.
00:18:16
Speaker
Aaron did not argue about it. And it must have been very hard to see that his sons ah were consumed by the fire, just as it may be hard for us parents to see when our children ah have to accept consequences outside of our family home by God for ways that they have chosen to walk. And it can be very hard for us, but um ultimately God is in control and he is the one that that we are following.
00:18:48
Speaker
So let's see, and I think that's about it. Everybody camped the way that they were told to camp. God was even specific as to how he wanted them to travel. And God always has his his ways and his reasons for what he wants to do.

Trust in God's Wisdom

00:19:05
Speaker
And so while we may not always understand why we need to do our best to follow God's rules to the best of our ability, even if we don't understand everything at the time, we're we're not always going to understand everything. We just have to trust that what God is doing is is what is right, because the Bible tells us that God has said that his ways are higher than our ways.
00:19:29
Speaker
And just as the sky is higher higher than the earth, ah so are his ways higher than our ways. So part of our faith is to trust in him that even though we may not understand why we are following some of the rules at the time, as we get older, we often gain wisdom. And when I say older, it doesn't necessarily mean older than being 10. It could be older than when we are 50. It can be older than when we are 70. And sometimes we may never understand ah why we are doing something. it It may not be revealed to us, but we trust that what God has given us in the Bible yeah is what we are to obey.
00:20:11
Speaker
And oftentimes that can be difficult in society as we are oppressed to um say that things are now considered okay when the Bible tells us that they are not. And it can be tough to stand by the Bible, but that is what we are called to do is to uphold God's laws because God's ways are higher than our ways.
00:20:35
Speaker
And I think that's about it. I think that's about all we have for today. So I hope that you have enjoyed today's reading. And ah I wonder if you took the time to look up how the art was supposed to be made, if you enjoyed that but that process. And I would also like to encourage you to potentially look at how the worship tent was made. If you are curious as to what the worship tent may look like, we don't have any pictures here in our Bible for me to share with you.
00:21:06
Speaker
And that's a great project for you to do outside of of this daily reading, is that if you are curious, which I hope that you are, that you take the time to do a quick search and look for images of what the worship tent would have looked like.
00:21:24
Speaker
So thank you very much for joining me today. I have appreciated you being here and I hope that you enjoy the rest of your Saturday evening and I hope your Saturday before this was really wonderful and that you enjoyed it together with someone in your family.
00:21:39
Speaker

And after you have viewed the video or listened to it, ah whether it's on Spotify or whether you are watching on TikTok or YouTube or whether you are listening on Zencaster, if you have a way to click a like or a love button, I would ask that you please consider doing so as it helps the video ah get a little bit more attention.
00:22:03
