Introduction & Catching Up

00:00:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome to the Daily Palace podcast brought to you by the Global Sports Podcast Network, as you just heard by the intro. I am your host today, Dan Tanner, and with me is Walei Bakari, who I've not been on a podcast with in a long time. So it's a we're going to have to get to know each other again, Walei.
00:00:29
Wale Bakare
Well, i struggled I struggled. When I saw you, I thought, what's this? Oh, Dan, nice to see you. Anyway, is there it's been a while. We've been on the pod together, but it's it's great to ah ah see you again and great to be on the pod with you tonight. with're here tonight
00:00:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep, and cool. oh always Always fun when it's you while I, so. Right, let's get it into it.

Are Crystal Palace's Tactics Viable?

00:00:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
So today we are going to talk a little bit about our, if we're still comfortable with the palace tactics so far, are they are they still so viable or do we think they need to change or just keep it as it is? And we're also, as the January transfer window literally will open in the next couple of hours,
00:01:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
will put the hypothetical of me and Wale are in charge of the ah ah transfer targets for Palace for the next month, who are our top three picks, either players or positions. And then finally, we'll as it is as I've just mentioned, the last day of the year, we'll talk about the the Premier League season so far because it has been a bit of a wild one compared to normal years. So with that, let's just get on with it.

Evaluating Palace's Tactical Improvements

00:01:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wale,
00:01:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Are you comfortable with Palace's tactics so far this season or are there some glaring issues that you're still kind of seeing or any kind of improvements you want to see from the team for the over the next coming weeks?
00:01:58
Wale Bakare
Well, definitely. the world that There's definitely improvements that you know I'd love to see. I'm sure improvements that a lot of Palace fans would love to see, particularly with results and you know getting over the line. Although the last couple of weeks of the year, I've seen some very great improvements in performances.
00:02:19
Wale Bakare
and also results. The start of the season wasn't the greatest. Pilots, for some reason, couldn't match performances with results ah for some reason, for some reason, couldn't get games over the line, found themselves behind a number of times in a couple of games, got back into the game, but just couldn't get that.
00:02:44
Wale Bakare
uh that yeah that goal that you know ensure three points for the team but as i said it it's improved it's improved rather over the last couple of weeks but to answer the question specifically as regards glass and stat tactics they are somewhat ah tested and trusted because we all were craving for more of that after you know the results that Palace go in the 13 games that Glazna oversaw towards the end of last season we were asking for you know more of the same and asking for the players to to give the same but there was there were changes and personal critical changes at the start of the season I should add ah ah important players leaving
00:03:26
Wale Bakare
players getting injured, a lot of noise as regards the future of you know players that affected the psyche and the the the overall mental state or well-being of the team and it kind of reflected in the results ah in the first couple of games

Player Performances & Synergy

00:03:42
Wale Bakare
of the season. So that maybe explains what we saw in the at the start of the season but Well, the tactics I'm very much satisfied with. Maybe it would be great to get better performances from individual or players. And we've started seeing that with users performing better, Tariq Mitchell is performing better, Ismaila Tsai is performing better. i Yes, Jean-Philippe Mateta could be better. Players like Eddie and Katia, we were all very excited about when he joined.
00:04:16
Wale Bakare
you know at the end of the summer transfer window. He's also another player that can deliver better in terms of goals especially. I think he's got just the one goal in the league cup against QPR and hasn't been able to find his feet in the league.
00:04:33
Wale Bakare
lisa Maybe individuals can perform better, but it's not much about the tactics, especially as as we've also seen in the last couple of weeks. Glassness tactics is is a bit is a bit flexible, can be conservative when it's required.
00:04:50
Wale Bakare
you know the team can write our results, the team can create chances when they they get the space. and you know I'm just going to very quickly mention a couple of things that so far, especially you know with with the start so of the season. What we're not particularly comfortable with is the number of goals you know the the team has scored.
00:05:13
Wale Bakare
yeah so you know the The team hasn't gotten a lot of goals this season, 20 goals, that's all Palace have scored this season. Only three teams have scored less than that, in each Everton and Southampton, and that's not a company that you want to be keeping.
00:05:32
Wale Bakare
this season, although you couldn't take so with Manchester United, for example, have scored just one more goal in that palace this season, but remember their manager Amarin was saying that they also are in the relegation battle, so that's not the problem you don't want to be keeping. So but the number of goals the palace has scored this season and could be better, it's not very encouraging, but On the other side, goal concession hasn't been very bad. 27 goals conceded by Palace this season. That's better than nine other teams. And again, that's just one more than not just Manchester United, but even Manchester City. So things haven't been entirely bad, but
00:06:13
Wale Bakare
you want to see more goals, code more chances created, you want to see a more clinical finishing by the attackers. The defensive setup for me has done great so far. It took a while for them to get to know each other, but they look like they are getting into their own, even when there's been changes in one of the three or two of the three, like we saw retards coming in for Gay, the last game we saw retards coming in for Chaluva the other day, they seem to understand each other and ah overall for me it's just results improving, scoring models as far as tactics are concerned, Glasner really for me is ah is is the man for the job at the moment.
00:06:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
I probably would say pretty much the same thing there. I'm fairly satisfied with it at the moment.
00:07:05
Wale Bakare
but i and too much that
00:07:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
permit No, that's fine. Because up without us spending an absolute fortune, we don't have the luxury to go and change our system. We've fought we got players in to suit a formation, suit a system. So it is working now. It didn't work at the beginning of the season. it was But on the other hand, we haven't played particularly badly.
00:07:29
Wale Bakare
I admit, thank you too much.
00:07:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
We haven't really been blown out of the water except for the Arsenal game just before Christmas. We've normally sort of lost by one nil or sort of one one goal or something like that. But on that also being said, we've only had three clean sheets over the entire season so far.
00:07:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
So it's a very much of I don't mind conceding, but I'd try to get some more wins out of it that column. because we've got plenty of games like Newcastle is the one I'm going to keep bringing up for a while that we should have won four or five nil quite easily if you look to the look to the way we played and looked how dominant we were and we walked away with a one-one draw without Newcastle taking a shot on goal so it's things like that it's met it's been able to probably close out a game being a little bit more effective
00:08:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
when we have the ball will be a lot more appreciated, I think. But as as a whole, I think we're

Crystal Palace's Transfer Targets

00:08:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
doing all right. We're not brilliant, but we're doing all right. We just need to kind of just be a little bit more effective than sort of than we have been and not let the games run away from us as well. So ah basically, it's it's keeping up the the mentality that we have at the moment. So so far so good, but still room for improvement.
00:08:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
but I think with that, is there anything else you want to add to that Wale or should we move on?
00:08:56
Wale Bakare
No, no, it's you you you're totally spot on. I've i've had i've i've said a lot already and I completely agree with you. you know ah the The teams turn in the corner and if if they were if they're able to maintain the momentum in the last couple of games, but of course, as a result against Arsenal, I'm sure you know Palace fans will be there up here for it.
00:09:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
All right, cool. Right, with that, we're going to take a quick moment to thank our lovely provider here at Zencast so that allows us to talk nonsense about Crystal Palace for about an hour, about half hour or so every single day.
00:09:30
Global Sports Podcast Network

We are put in a hypothetical situation where myself and Wale have been put in charge of the awesome the
00:10:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Palace transfer system for the next window. I'm going to get at least three picks. I want three picks, but we're probably going to pick, the if we pick the same one, so be it.
00:10:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
So either players or positions that that we think we need, because I've had enough of talking about Palace players exiting the club. Let's see. Let's talk about ones that are actually coming in for a change.
00:10:35
Wale Bakare
Yeah.
00:10:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Do you want to go from there?
00:10:36
Wale Bakare
Well, I'll let you go first.
00:10:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
but from that
00:10:40
Wale Bakare
I'll let you go first.
00:10:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
right I'll go first. right My first pick would be Ben Chilwell from Chelsea. Did you have the same one?
00:10:50
Wale Bakare
I'll go aim on my list, Bob. Wish you'd definitely get it, Ben.
00:10:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
it That's fine, I was probably going to expect a lot of crossover. But yeah, he was a guy that I think was licked with us a couple of months ago as well. He's kind of out of favour at Chelsea.
00:11:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
He fits that kind of left wing wing back position that Tyrone Mitchell's kind of having to play. He's got a decent cross and he's been sort of left out by Chelsea and kind of forgotten by England as well. So I think we he could do a really good job for us and we could probably get him at a fairly decent price because I'm thinking as we did in Kettier it's about 25, 30 bracket.
00:11:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
probably we have to do some fairly decent business there. That's probably my most likely one that's going to happen. Well, have you got one?
00:11:46
Wale Bakare
Well, of course, i I do agree with the Ben Chilwell one, because it you in fact, it was top of my list and particularly because that there was the talk in the room O'Meal about Atletico Madrid looking into tired Mitchell, whether that is true.
00:12:00
Wale Bakare
We don't know. There's questions.
00:12:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
i heard i heard let go madrid and man united and both
00:12:06
Wale Bakare
Yeah, and and there's there's questions over AIM signing a new deal and it wouldn't be the first time Palace have lost players to the bigger side. Take Aaron Rambisak as an example.
00:12:17
Wale Bakare
You wouldn't be a Roger player who wants to go to these... you know, so-called bigger sides when they get the chance. So I thought Ben Chilwell is someone that, you know, fits the bill.
00:12:28
Wale Bakare
Just as as you you've pointed out, it's not getting in any game time at the moment at Chelsea.
00:12:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
I heard of Lettycoma, Dredd and Man United.
00:12:34
Wale Bakare
It's weird the situation going on with him at Chelsea. And, ah you know, if he's fit enough, although he's got his injury worries, it has to be said. I don't agree with the 35 million ah ah price tag though, because it's a player that's prone to injury.
00:12:48
Wale Bakare
we would be really open for him to remain fit. I'm sure he'll be on some good box in terms of his salary, so I'm really not sure whether we want to be spending up to 35, maybe 20, 25 is a whole lot of money for him. So, since we have been to your will, I thought that Palace have, in the last couple of years, done great going into the championship.
00:13:11
Wale Bakare
bringing out a player that is doing good and, you know, getting good returns out of them. A player that's caught my eyes, of course, the the the player who's got the most goals in the championship so far, that's Norwich's boy assigns. It wasn't so great in Ryza, Goza and Alavis, but last season wasn't so great for him. I think he got about six goals and two assists in 33 appearances.
00:13:37
Wale Bakare
But he's got 15 goals already this season and two assists, and he's just playing well. I've seen him play for Norwich a couple of times. is Maybe he's sometimes on the edge with his discipline, but you know sometimes you need those players that are you know are ready to fight and a bit aggressive. and they they they're a bit emotional, you know, in how they approach the game. Yes, I know that when Joe hears this, it will be coming for me, because I left to Joe Jean-Philippe Matero, the only one that should ever play the number nine position for Palace, but
00:14:15
Wale Bakare
definitely we've spoken about Palace needing more goals so player who is getting a lot of goals in the championship might be a great sign and I really don't know his availability is going to be a you know key one. It will be a lot expensive at the moment but we're only being hypothetical and that there's a reason I'm i'm not the one making the calls as to who gets the sign, who always will get signed but that That would be a player. Because because I look at the the Premier League and there's not so many. There's a lot of strikers getting the goals here, but there are not strikers that Palace will be able to get. There's no way we're getting.
00:14:56
Wale Bakare
know ah maybe ah ah a D-Lab from Ape Switch or you know the other guys that i that are getting the goals at the moment without that would be within the reach. So it might be getting a striker from the championship. And who else, if not the man, was topping the goalscorer's chart in the championship?
00:15:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, yep that's not a bad shot. Always go for more attacking options. we can't Sorry, Joe, we can't just rely on Mateta the entire time. We need other people, sorry. um I'm going to get it now for him. so Right, my next one was a little bit more of a long shot. It was Michal Dunstard from Brentford, ah the Danish central midfielder, mainly because sort of he's a very much a playmaking midfielder, which I've always championed on this podcast from pretty much day one. You're probably going to get bored of it for a while. He's at that right age group, it sort of age range as well, being only about 24, 25. So he's still got some sort of room to develop him, but I think he would work really well in our system as well to sort of
00:16:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
a bit more of a playmaker, a bit more attacking option, can head out to this so the left wing a little bit more and take it out from that kind of position. Also, just having and another player that can actually take some set pieces as well, have a so set piece threat, which is something, besides from corners, we seem to be lacking a little bit at the moment, but we're not the only one. It seems to be fairly premiership-wide that free kicks and stuff aren't quite as effective as tribal or at least direct free kicks anyway aren't as deadly as they used to be.
00:16:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Any thoughts on that or I know it's a little bit more of a long shot because he's still only been there for what a year and a bit and he might be a little bit more expensive at about price range but it's more this is hypothetical

Is a Creative Midfielder Needed?

00:16:54
Wale Bakare
Well, well wait wait to you hear wait till you hear my last mention before you you know before you conclude Damn Scout is a long shot, because i've gone I've gone for one that is almost impossible. but
00:16:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
and somebody I would kind of love at Palace.
00:17:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, you put in Ronaldo or something, haven't you?
00:17:09
Wale Bakare
but yeah
00:17:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:17:12
Wale Bakare
Well, that dam's game is a great player, but you know you mentioned the fact that it's been, I think it's the second season at Brentford, maybe it's third. I remember him having a great tournament at the Euros, was it Euros 2002, 2022 rather, and is that a great season so far for Brentford, especially when they play at home?
00:17:35
Wale Bakare
as They've got some great results for themselves. Yeah, so it would be a great addition, but you know I've i've gone for I just thought well if Barcelona is unable to Register Dani Elmo and no one wants them
00:17:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
you're going for the boom
00:17:57
Wale Bakare
so I thought it might it might get a bit confused by the Jesus. The Palace and Barco Jesus are not so far away in terms of colours. So it might imagine just feel, well, I'll go for it. it' It's just a loan till the end of the season. So I will i will take it. I just don't know whether we would have the bucks to pay him. but Quality like that will be great in the Palace midfield. It will never happen. Not even most likely never happened. But I don't know for some reason after I wrote Ben Chilwell for some reason I wrote Danny Olmo and I said to myself what nonsense are you doing? But I said well, it's all right to dream sometimes. But oh yeah, that that's one.
00:18:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
You've got Liverpool team, weren't you? You were there in Liverpool, right? Oh, damn! Oh, great, I've got to do it for Palace,
00:18:43
Wale Bakare
Yeah.
00:18:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
know know
00:18:47
Wale Bakare
Exactly, but for yeah, it would be I thought it would be nice to get you know one more very... There's great materials in the pilot's squad, yeah? um But when you talk about flexible players who are able to create the tannances,
00:19:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
right?
00:19:07
Wale Bakare
there's There's not a lot of... I don't know what i' I'm just just looking for. There's not a lot of flair, that's the word, in in the Palace midfield. Although you could argue that flair is something that maybe is is going out of the game you know many years ago. there was you know, the JGO coaches of this world playing the number 10 role, playing football, you know, that might be the height of it though.
00:19:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, you're so good. you're so good.
00:19:32
Wale Bakare
But then there was, you know, Philippe Coutinho at Liverpool, there were, you know, players who could mesmerise midfielders, who could, you know, go past one player in the in the middle of the pitch.
00:19:43
Wale Bakare
It's quite easy for wingers to you know to beat the wing back or the right wing back. for But see, when you get midfield, I was able to bring some flair into the game, you know make wonderful passes, and get amongst the goals as well. that that That would be great for Palace. There's not been a lot of goals from the midfield for for Palace. And that probably explains, although there's been goals all around the pitch, but that explains why the the team has got just 20 goals so far this season. but I don't know, and I just said, you know what, I don't care. Danny Omo. That's what I'm going for.
00:20:19
Wale Bakare
but
00:20:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
I like your optimism though, L.A. I really do. Right, I think...
00:20:24
Wale Bakare
if everyone worst If everyone was like me, the world would be a better place, you know.
00:20:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right, and I think my last pick was... Oh, sorry, from Chelsea, would be Mudritt for basically the same, very much the same reasons as Chilwell, that he's not getting game time.
00:20:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
we need a somewhat experienced midfielder just to sort of round it out a little bit more and I think he could probably do quite a decent job at a club where he's not got quite so many sort of expectations. Playing down is sort of the middle part of the city the the league instead of having to play at the top end just to sort of get essentially get him some game time. I think it just you probably would fit our system well because you can play sort of two or three positions around that central midfield bit more attacking option and just sort of somewhere yet again somewhere where he's not going to be at some high expectations and he's a probably willing to actually play a little bit so that'll probably be my yeah that's my third pick the only issue really with it would be his price tag are Chelsea going to ask for an absolute fortune for him to kind of recoup anything or they're going to let him on often a
00:21:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
cheap deal that we can get him for sort of installments over the next few years but that's the only real sort of first uh sort of downside to him really it is his price tag but as a player I think you'd probably do at least a decent enough job for us uh sort of in the longish terms he's well he's 25 26 as well same what is uh so uh if I can't get Darm start I'll get Modric instead
00:22:13
Wale Bakare
Well, it's just, you know, it's it's actually generally tough, you know, getting players you want in a January transfer window. Does the player want to leave? that That's another you know key question, especially if if this were to be one of those seasons where there was, say, the euros after or the World Cup. There's players wanting playing time and they want to go to another club and get it but it's it's not one of those seasons so would be a lot of players biding their time and waiting for their chance so it's always difficult to get a player in January although there is the interest interesting twist of maybe some of the clubs around Palace you know the Brentford's of this world the
00:22:53
Wale Bakare
you know, the other side, even Newcastle and the likes, Nottingham Forest, you know, maybe some of these teams who might be looking at the PSR and might be looking at, you know, getting some players, you know, out. But but then that's usually a lot of money that the clubs are asking. So it's it's actually tough and we we've seen that over the years. it It's actually tough getting the players you want.
00:23:21
Wale Bakare
into the January transfer window and that's why I think maybe it might be you know go to championship going to going abroad, getting a player from a fellow Premier League side. That's usually a tough one in January.
00:23:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, that's decent enough explanation. I was just going on ones that had some Premier League experience so we can just decide put them straight in, not looking for the long term.
00:23:44
Wale Bakare
usually
00:23:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
This is 18 months, two years tops I was looking into, kind of just keeping the keeping the engine going, basically. Just have enough enough experience to keep going until the next season and we go from there.
00:23:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
We don't really have the luxury of the Chelsea season of the world to go and buy prospects.
00:24:02
Wale Bakare
And then, you know, so something for the fans to be excited about, you know, sometimes just get the beginning players and everyone's, you know, excited and all.
00:24:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, because I remember when Edgar David showed up. So that was mad. So just get a mad player like that that sort of turns up at Celeste Park. So anything to get people through the doors. All right. On that note, I think we'll take another quick break and thank the network. And then we'll get into our thoughts of the season so far, the entirety of the Premier League, because it has been a mad one. So It's been very unusual, so we'll take a quick break and then we'll get into that. Premier League Season Review

00:25:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we're back with the final part of the the Daily Palace podcast. And we are now going to have a quick so review of the season so far. As I did the loon tube just before the break, it has been absolutely chaotic. No result seems to go the way it's supposed to. There are late goals galore.
00:25:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
apps just absolute carnage ah across up and down the league. You've got world-class teams that are struggling in mid-table. You've got a team that sort of last year was struggling in the the relegation zone, now fighting out for a Champions champions League spot. So, Wale, what are your thoughts on the Premier League season so far as it is the last day of 2024?
00:26:02
Wale Bakare
Well, that's just the word mad. but this It's been chaotic, it's been although it's been very interesting, some of the things that we've seen. That's a great advertisement for the Premier League. That's why it continues to be rated as, you know, argu arguably the best league in the world, well, at least commercially.
00:26:25

and maybe generally the quality of football when you you know look at all of the teams yeah in and some other leagues you could get you know a couple of teams that could compete in the Premier League but maybe not all of them. It's a league where before I used to say virtually every team from ah ah about number nine up until number 20 could beat themselves but this season we've seen maybe virtually everything team from number three up until number 20 could beat themselves you know we saw Ipswich beat Chelsea there almost comfortably
00:27:04
Wale Bakare
yesterday and then there was uh there's been some interesting results this season uh wolves against united uh just a couple of days ago there's been not enough forests have been you know of course the revelation of the season uh getting results when you where you don't expect them to. you know They're the only team, by the way, to have inflicted a defeat on Anna Slott's Liverpool, who are also flying so far this season. Top of the league, eight points ahead of Nottingham Forest. It's strange that we're mentioning Forest in that conversation at all, but but then that's that's the beauty of the of the Premier League.
00:27:45
Wale Bakare
You know, we now get a lot of teams who look at themselves and back themselves to make into the top four. It was Aston Villa last season, it was Newcastle the season before, as far as this season. Teams like Brighton, you know, even though they they're going on this winless run or this ah run of draws, but they've played some fantastic football. Brent Ford are very good at home in this season, Newcastle.
00:28:09
Wale Bakare
yeah on on a run of of of of games and of wins and they look like they're getting their mojo back. So it's just been, you know, just that sort of season that has been unpredictable, whether it will continue that way, whether, you know, teams like Nottingham Forest will fall off or whether, you know, teams like CT ah we you know get there the the porttensency back <unk>ll We'll We'll wait to see ah but off of what we've seen so far. It looks like it will be a season where there will be so many surprising results. I don't want to jinx it. It does look like it might be Liverpool, the prime favourites to win the league.
00:28:53
Wale Bakare
But remember there was a time when I think there were almost about 9-10 points ahead and all of a sudden it was almost back to two points ahead of Chelsea and now they've got eight points a again. That shows how unpredictable the season has been, not not just for ah the the top of the of the table but even below. although Although there is that we're already seeing the pattern, the the teams that I moved up from the championship, occupied the bottom three. We saw that last season as well. And I think the teams that were 18, 19, 20 at this time of the season ended up being relegated.
00:29:34
Wale Bakare
whether it will be the same Southampton look like they will definitely get relegated because there's a lot of points for them to claw back. But Ipswich and Leicester was to look at themselves and say they they've got a chance. The question is well will they drag below them? Is it Everton? Is it Wolves? Palace? you know I have to be careful as well. So it's it's just it's been that sort of season that and i I've enjoyed every bit of it.
00:29:58
Wale Bakare
I've found myself watching a lot of games that I probably would just, you know, see a couple of minutes and go back and take the result. But I found myself watching a lot of games yesterday. I saw Brighton Aston Villa to a point. So, you know, Ipswich, Chelsea. So, Chelsea, I'm in United, Newcastle. I just wanted to see all the games because, you know, there's been very exciting in football that's been played. and The refereeing, which has always been an issue, has been a bit better. There were some controversial calls at the start of the season, a lot of redcats for players kicking the ball away, or maybe well a couple of Arsenal players, a couple of interesting penalty shouts.
00:30:41
Wale Bakare
but is is It keeps getting better and and everything just looks really good so far this season. Whether it will continue like this into the second half of the season remains to be seen.

yeah my thoughts more or less on the same vague weight length there it's been an absolutely mad season so many like ridiculously early goals especially from Brentford that seemed to be a a real trick to them and scoring in the first within the first minute of like three or four games in a row uh that also being said there have been loads of goals that have been going in on the 99th minute or the 100th minute or something like that with these new uh extended stoppage time rules, which are starting to get a little bit irritating, especially on the how long some of these guys are actually playing a match for now. They look absolutely exhorted, some of them. so But you can't take your eyes off of any result. it could Anybody can beat anybody from like third down to 18th. Anything can happen now. It's not the the what you would call sort of like
00:31:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
given results like I remember I think we did the crossover me and Alex I think did with city and we were very much of the city are going to win this quite comfortably they're coming off of 3-0 thrashing of forest they're mad they're going to come to Sellers Park and they're going to come and beat us what happens they get a 2-2 and we go ahead twice so anything can happen in this season. I know it sounds really cliche but this season you kind of can believe it. There are some very mad decisions, very sort of strange calls and just results in general where yeah just that the mid table is so clustered now. Any win can jump you up five or six places probably given any given weekend so

let's just hope it continues and well it continues in the vein where Palace slowly go up the league and don't get dragged into that relegation fight because that is the one bit I really don't want to see us get dragged into that it's just not fun I've done it before and I don't want to do it again I've done it plenty of times it's not fun it's not the last day of the season stuff is not fun
00:32:57
Wale Bakare
so many times actually
00:33:05
Wale Bakare
You know, I should I should mention quickly, though, see, when I was, you know, ah looking looking at some of the things of the season has been so far for Palace and I was looking at the goals caught and conceded, I was, you know, going to talk about the ball possession.

Palace's Possession & Scoring Focus

00:33:18
Wale Bakare
And I saw particular stats that put Palace at 17 in terms of, you know, having possession of the ball. But then guess what? Not not for us is 28 in the league, according to that start. So I'm thinking if they don't have a lot of possession and they're second in the league, I better shut up about, you know, Palace's possession.
00:33:37

uh stats don't mean anything mate the only one that matters is the goals the only one that matters regardless of

and and And, you know, it just shows you how important you you know you need your striker score in goals. Chris Wood has been in great form this season. You know, likes of Elanga and Elton O'Doeche, you know, also ah ah come getting a couple of goals for nothing for us. If Palace can get the strikers,
00:34:03
Wale Bakare
getting goals. If you're certain of a 15-16 goal season for your strikers, you know, and added with, you know, goals from all the other players, then it's ah it's a very good foundation to so build upon. But for for some reason at the moment, but the goals are just not flowing as we're for Mateta, for Iketia and, you know, ah even Aze as in at a very great season in terms of getting the goals. But hopefully things will improve in the second half of the season.
00:34:31
