um It's been a massive month for Eze, really, Dan. He also scored his first goal for England. um Things are just looking great for Eze at the moment, even more so than usual.

Oh, at the moment, I think he's probably, probably the most important player that we have at the moment. He's just over the last few months, he's turned into the playmaker. We kind of needed him to be.

and so ah instead of like trying to do it all himself, he's kind of realized that there are other people around. He doesn't have to take on the entire team by himself. He can pass it off and he's sort is I think you saw of he's matured quite a bit from that sort of gung-ho player he was kind of back end of the season, beginning of this season.

So he's kind of matured into that sort of leadership sort not leadership leadership role, not like a captain or anything, but like one of the influential players of the team. um And especially now that we've got at least one or two that are now suspended through ah sospens suspensions and red cards from last week.

he's probably going to be looked at a little bit more for sort of as the the driving force to go forward um he's got and he's started to get a really decent connection with mateta sorry with mateta uh those counter-attack goals are becoming quite deadly uh he's also sort of getting a little bit of a flare with um Wharton as well so they can kind of play off each other a little bit so at the moment I think he's probably one of our ah probably most important player at the moment definitely on the outfield um and getting his first England cat ah england goal sorry that's as a player that's got to be one of the best things you can do sort of

is scoring first international one. He's broken the seal. Now we're just hoping to get a few more, but it doesn't isn't really exactly known for so scoring lots of goals.

Yeah, that's it. I think that goal for England, like he's come back from that and looked even more confident than he than he was before. like it's just I think it's been huge for him and his confidence.

um It's obviously lifted the team as well. It's one those players. like If he plays well, Palace play well, um which is really important to have. um But yes, it's interesting you mentioned the assists there as well because I'm not sure how many in total he's got, maybe eight or nine this season.

But he's only got, I think, three goals for us, which is like really surprising when you look at it.

I think it's only three three goals, I think. There's like five assists in the last ah six games or something like that. Two against Brighton. So, yeah, I think the people kind of overlook assists.

Yeah, I think a good example of that was the goal against Munoz's goal against Brighton at the weekend, where Eze just drew like five players to him just because he's so good at dribbling and so direct. They were like, I'm not going to use the phrase here, but they were a little bit worried, let's say, about Eze coming towards goal.

And then he just lays it off to Munoz, he slams it in. And it's like, when you have a player like Eze who can bring out the defence of another team like that, it's just such a good asset to have. And yeah, just the better he's playing, the better we are.

And like you said, like against City, which we'll look at a bit in a bit more depth in a minute, like Eze and Mateta are going to be looked upon massively because we do have a few players in, like out um unavailable.

I was kind of under the impression there was already a somewhat of a um handshake agreement like with LAC. That if there is a big offer in the summer, that they would definitely consider it depending on the price.

Because we're gonna have the same problem with Gehi. Mateta is on everybody's list. um I think he's on like he's even got onto Arsenal's list as Ollie Watkins might be a little bit out of their um price range or they're not prepared to quite pay that quite that much and mateta is slightly on the cheaper end maybe i think there are even rumors of um atletico madrid for mateta as well so we it's i think there's about three maybe four players that we are going to have to really struggle to keep and esa is definitely one of them if we can keep two of them it'd be a minor miracle but um

Eze is definitely one of those ones we want to try and keep, but yeah I just don't... It's going to be a struggle, I think. If somebody like sort of Arsenal or Liverpool come along, probably maybe Arsenal more than Liverpool, think he might favour, but the opportunity to play Champions League football and probably get a few more England call-ups, because then I know Southgate did bring them up and Churchill was slightly reluctant...

But um he's sort of on the cusp of getting an England regular spot. So if he can get a top team position, it might solidify him a little bit more. So if he's got if somebody comes in, I think it's going to be a struggle to keep him. But you never know. We might win the FA Cup and get a European spot ourselves. So we'll have to kind of see at the end of the season...

That is the dream. And it would be a big, um yeah, big draw if we did did manage to win the FA Cup and get into Europe. That would be huge to keep these star players. um But yeah, the thought of Eze and Saka at Arsenal is like quite scary, really.

ah So we're going to look at our trip to Man City. um Now, so just start with a bit of team news. As we alluded to in the first part, yeah we are without Mark Gehi and Eddie Nketiah, who were both sent off in ah in a crazy game last weekend against Brighton with three sending offs in total, which you don't hear of every week. um But they're unavailable, unfortunately, for this trip.

and But the good news is is that Glasner said earlier that Chris Richards is back after missing a couple of games. So that will lessen the blow of Gehi a bit. um so that's quite handy to have him back but out of those two Gehi and Kati Adan how much of a ah loss are they going to be for Saturday's game

Well, I think Gahey definitely is going to be a loss because he is, as we all know, he is a world, well almost a world-class centre-back. He is our on-field captain.

So it's the, that will be sort of, that might be a bit interesting. Who's going to take up that for a game or so. But he's been solid, hasn't done anything overly spectacular.

He's been sort of putting in a ah decent enough season. uh so yeah he's probably going to be the one that we're going to miss the most especially with city but i know city i've got their own injury problems which i'm assuming you're going to bring up in a little while so i won't go into that but uh they've been uh kind of uh slightly struggling as well so it might not be as big a deal because i know richards has definitely been since the uh united game at the end of february he has been just so switched on and probably one of the better defenders in the league.
Impact of Key Player Absences?

um So, to yeah, I just don't think he, Gahey's going to be missed, but I think we can get away with it for a game. Nketiah is essentially an impact sub at the minute.

So, is him being gone, we don't have a third centre forward. So, Mateta and Sar are probably going to to play the ball. game unless the venue if glasner has any faith in the venue which he's still getting to grips with the premier league but he could be a bit of a wild card it's we'll have to see how it goes but yeah mateta and sarah probably have to play the full game so yeah gay he's definitely going to be the one going miss most and ketty up it's kind of annoying but we'll just have to see how it goes

Yeah, I think yeah in Ketia, we can sort of make do without him. like He hasn't been amazing this season. so I don't think his presence will be massively lost at this stage anyway. And then Gehi is obviously the the main one that can't remember a game where we haven't played without Gehi. He's just been there, like, so solid week in, week out.

So it'll be interesting to see how we cope without him, especially to one of the toughest away games of the season. um But again, like, it throws up another chance for, you know, people like Richards to keep making a and name for themselves.

you know We spoke a couple of weeks ago about client and how he's not really suited to that centre-back role anymore. um So maybe Lerma has played there as well, but I don't rate him as a centre-back.

And we trust him to make the right choice, as we always do we every week. um But yeah, like you mentioned, Dan, City have got a few out. Obviously, Erling Haaland is out for like another five weeks or so Rodri is out for the season.

I know he's coming towards the of the back end of his Man City career, but he's still going to be there. And as I said, if he' if he's on, if he's in the mood, and if we allow him to do it, um he could just, yeah, do it himself.

um Foden, you would have thought, would have been a threat, but this season he's been a bit of a dud, both in for England and for City. so But he could always always surprise you.

So, yeah, it's basically it's most it's pretty much most of the team are going to be a threat. It's whether we can control that sort of central midfield bit and kind of keep to just keep them in check, really, just to make sure we don't give them any room to do anything.

um And like without Haaland as well, they don't really they've got our Omar Marmouch up front, who's done all right, but he's not he doesn't scare me as much as Haaland. So I think we've we've got a fair chance on on Saturday of getting something from City.

Memorable Moment: Townsend's Iconic Goal

Oh, well, the memory has to be the ah the Townsend goal. That's absolutely insane. We brought this goal up so many times in this podcast. It's probably the best goal that Palace have ever scored.

ah It just comes out of nowhere. so um This is a game that, at the time, City were at their absolute dominant best.

I think that season they were almost undefeated at that point. ah That was at 8, 2018, something like that. End of 2018, beginning of 2019, I think it was. um Absolutely dominant.

And we were, yeah, we had no chance of winning. Nobody gave us any chance whatsoever. They score first, sort of, as expected.

Schlopp gets a goal a few minutes later. And then the absolute worldie from Townsend, it kind of goes out from the keeper, bounces around a little bit, and he just spanks this thing from 35 yards out, and it goes in like a rocket.

it's just It's probably one of the best goals of it, one not just at Palace, but ever seen. He's like definitely in the top five for me. um And then after that, we go and get a pen, go 3-1 up, and then go and Man City, go and ruin spoil the fun and go and score one more.

Just to make the final score 3-2. And I remember that one because I was absolutely bouncing around for a while. Because so we were kind of watching that in the pub. And it's just like everybody who was just insane. it's What did we just watch?

Yeah, that was... yeah that was an unreal win. And we, like back then and we weren't the team that we are now. Like we're a much better team now. Then it was just complete Roy Hodgson team of like people who try hard and then we'd give it to Zaha and hope they would do something magic with it.

That was basically the game plan every week. um But you need a moment like that from Townsend to sometimes get a win against the big clubs. And it was just like, I remember just watching it and just standing up with my head in my hands for like five minutes. i was like, what has just happened?
