Welcome Back and Holiday Recap

00:00:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome to the Daily Palace podcast. I'm your host today, Dan Tanner, and joined today by, well, a guy that's basically hasn't been around for a couple of weeks. He's had a nice end of season holiday. he went a little bit early. Come on.
00:00:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
He hasn't been around for a while. We have got back Wale Bakari. How you doing, man?
00:00:32
Wale Bakare
I'm great. Great to be with you, Dan. Great to be back. It was about 19 days of just lazing around, eating spicy Nigerian food, um um you know, just gisting about, you know, family members who've been up to some funny things, just...

Palace's Impressive Matches

00:00:51
Wale Bakare
laughing about like i i really really forgot how to be so lazy and i i just you know found out that that remains my special talent like that's what i've been doing for the last couple of weeks and it's been fun but i'm i'm glad to be back glad to be back
00:01:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
found your special talent of holiday that's just i can do that as a pro so yeah i was gonna ask uh yeah it's been a one one hell of a ride since you've been gone an fa cup final uh and we essentially helped decide the title so yeah uh palace get to a final which did you manage to watch that while you were out there
00:01:31
Wale Bakare
Yeah, yeah, yeah. was... Yeah, of course. I was just saying that I never... Incidentally, like, I saw full 90 minutes of the Palace-Arsenal game. Saw a full 90 minutes of the Palace-Villa game in the FA Cup as well.
00:01:45
Wale Bakare
Some...

Palace's FA Cup Journey

00:01:46
Wale Bakare
you know fantastic performances there from Palace, particularly in the semi-final. When you talk about the semi-final in retrospect, it's almost like it was you know an easy result for Crystal Palace. when When you get a walkover in a game, you get three goals and three points. And that's exactly what Palace got against Crystal Palace.
00:02:10
Wale Bakare
it well It was a good result. It's just grit that... you know, the the the fans get the opportunity to go back to Wembley. And I don't know whether, ah somewhat I prefer that it's Manchester City, although they seem to be, you know, getting back to their groove and to the kind of form that we know they can get to. But, you know, Palace have always enjoyed being underdogs.
00:02:34
Wale Bakare
I've always enjoyed, you know, um you know just eating teams that I expected to have more of the ball on a counter. And, So maybe, maybe might just play into Palace's hands that it's Manchester City.
00:02:47
Wale Bakare
But specifically about the semi-final, it was a great performance. Complete team performance. Eze on fire. Mateta, you know, great. Ismael Asar, the guys at the back. Chris Richards, fantastic.
00:02:59
Wale Bakare
Dean Anderson made some amazing saves. It was just a great team performance. and And that's the beauty of, you know, when Palace win games. It's a lot of times not about...
00:03:10
Wale Bakare
one or two individual performances. Yes, you get the guys that get the goals and you know get the assists, but it's the whole team pulling their weight and the whole team you know ah giving contributing their own quarter. and but That win against Villa was a complete team performance and kudos to the boys, honestly.
00:03:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah That's how pretty much the sentiment we've been doing for the last week or so.

Transfer Rumors and Player Valuations

00:03:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
But we're not here to talk about the FA Cup too much. We probably will do for the next couple of weeks as it is not too far away, which we're also going to touch on in a little while. But today's episode, we're going to talk about sort of the vultures are circling kind of thing.
00:03:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
There are sort of rumors and gossip coming out of superstars wanting to leave Palace and sort of some of the giant price tags that Palace have put on these players.
00:04:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
So we'll have a little sort of discussion on that. Also, we're going to talk about the timing of the FA Cup, as it seems to be a tug of war between major British broadcasters over when to actually put the final on, what time of day due to scheduling, et cetera, but we'll get into that in a bit.
00:04:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
And lastly, as our game this week is not until Monday, we'll do a little bit of a forest preview and a little bit of a score predictions, which may or may not change when we do this again before the match.
00:04:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
So let's get right into it. So there has been plenty of... transfer rumors and speculation have come out over the last couple of days.
00:04:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
As it is coming to the back end of the season, these things start to rev up a little bit before the window starts to come out. So one of them is la fact the fact that Eze wants to leave Palace at the end of the season and seems to have a preference.
00:05:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I don't believe what I'm saying when he says this. He has a preference to go to Man United. I don't know why he would take a lateral move like that. Why would you... have How old is Eze? I think he's, what, 25, 26, something like that? Maybe a little... I don't know why you want to be part of a...
00:05:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
massive rebuild that Man United is going to go through and a really public one as well. So yeah, you've also got Walton has now had a 18 million price tag slapped on him to try and keep Liverpool from grabbing him.
00:05:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I don't think that will stop them. may have gone... got taken aback a little bit. Like he's good. I don't think he's worth 80. But at this point, we're going to be fending them off with polls to sort of try and keep as many of them as he can.
00:06:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Cause we know we're also going to lose gay. He in this, this transfer window and he's probably going to be anywhere between 17 and 80. If any, if the, uh, bids from last year are to be the sort of asking point, sort of the first bids.
00:06:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
while what, what, what do you kind of make of this? Cause we kind of talk about these sort of rumors every now and again, there's always one at some point, one of the big club wants to come and take one of our players.

Club Ambitions and Transfer Decisions

00:06:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's part of being a middle team. But some of these ones, like Eze wanting the move, i wanting the move and then wanting to go to United as well. Well, that seems to be what some of the papers are saying.
00:06:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
But just, yeah, what do what do you kind of make of all of this?
00:06:54
Wale Bakare
Well, first of all, i have to say, you know players make decisions for different reasons. Sometimes you don't understand why. remember when everybody kept saying no to Liverpool and wanted to go to Chelsea. Enzo Fernandes said no to Liverpool, went to Chelsea.
00:07:13
Wale Bakare
Moses Caicedo said no to Liverpool, went to Chelsea. Romeo Lavia, you know almost in the space of six months, all said no to Liverpool and Jordan Klopp and went to Chelsea. which which which, you know, things were far from settled with that team. And, you know, Liverpool are the league champions now. I wonder whether those boys are wondering what could have been for them. But players make decisions for different reasons.
00:07:37
Wale Bakare
You've also said it. There's a lot of rumours that have been going around as regards, you know, Palace players, Aze, Wharton.
00:07:47
Wale Bakare
He did die down a bit while Wharton was injured, but his comeback, his should, what he's able to do. I'll try to, you know, first of all, talk about, you know, for the club. i think I've said this a couple of times. I know we've said this a couple of times on the pod. It's about what what the club's ambitions are really and what what the club wants to do.
00:08:06
Wale Bakare
We see teams like Brighton lose, you know, their best players. we can, I mean, year in, year out, and then they go on and bring on, you know, some other player that you you you just wonder where they bring him from again? And they turn out to be good players. I wouldn't be surprised if, say, for example, players like Baleba or João Pedro will be leaving Brighton at the end of this season. And then next season, they will be just fine.
00:08:34
Wale Bakare
So if if, and I know that that's something a lot of clubs in Premier League are beginning to look at doing, you know, especially with the PSR and all of those, you you you want to you know sell your players that are in demand, to get the maximum you can get, bring in player four,

Brighton's Strategy and Palace's Future

00:08:51
Wale Bakare
maybe half the price and still get them performing at the same level because we've seen Brighton do it.
00:08:57
Wale Bakare
Southampton used to do it, although they ended up getting relegated eventually, but Brighton have done it really well in the last couple of seasons. So if that's something that Palace are looking at doing, then...
00:09:10
Wale Bakare
ah you know if If the club's looking in that direction, then the club will be more than ready and welcome to offers that will be coming forth as players, particularly if it's the right money.
00:09:22
Wale Bakare
Look at Gay's situation, for example. We've seen so many instances in recent seasons where you know top players have gone away for free. Kylian Mbappe went to Madrid for free.
00:09:34
Wale Bakare
There's talks about Trent Alexander-Arnold going to Liverpool. I mean, going to live in Liverpool and going to Madrid for free. I know there are some other players, Arsenal, Thomas Partey, I think, might be living for free as well.
00:09:49
Wale Bakare
There was another player, was reading about another player who's got four months left on their contract as well. so It's becoming a thing. um thing. um So you can be sure if Palace will find themselves in a situation where you want Gay to sign a new deal or you want to get you know the maximum money you want to get for him.
00:10:09
Wale Bakare
ah ah Again, it comes down to the ambitions of the club. Is the club going to say, we don't care about the eighty ninety pounds that's been talked about for Gehi, we want to keep up you know one of the best central defenders in the league and you know challenge for things and we believe is a critical part of our of of of our future and what we're hoping to achieve or is Palis going to say, well we'll sell him, ah you know get another young defender for £25-30-40 million five thirty forty million and you know try to build from there. So it's it's going to come down to Palace's ambitions, but I think it's one that might be leaving.
00:10:44
Wale Bakare
The fact that it's just one year on his contract, does that reduce how much it might be going for? That's another question. There will be teams coming in, you know reducing their offer because they know he's got one year and they believe Palace will be in a tight situation. So is it all depends on you know how the club sees it.

Eze's Release Clause and Transfer Speculation

00:11:02
Wale Bakare
For Bericchieze, we know how talented he is. He's a player that lot of clubs want, so we're not surprised. I think that's... You did mention this earlier.
00:11:13
Wale Bakare
I think there's a Figo being... He does have a release clause, I think.
00:11:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think he's got a release clause that I think is active at the end of the season of something like 60.
00:11:21
Wale Bakare
There's a 60 million, is it? Yeah.
00:11:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
So once, yeah, once the season's gone, then it's sort of free reign.
00:11:28
Wale Bakare
Yeah, so...
00:11:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
So there's like, they can't say no.
00:11:30
Wale Bakare
There's teams... The team's looking at him. Yeah, well what we've heard from what you've also said is he wants United. know Liverpool looked at him at some point as well. I know Manchester City at some point, but I just worry for him. City, for example, I don't think would be a great place.
00:11:47
Wale Bakare
Yeah, he might win some trophies and some titles, but will he play? ah We've seen what's happened with Grealish. We've seen, you know, Doku started so brightly and then but became Savinho at some point.
00:12:00
Wale Bakare
And then eventually it just became you know a different team entirely. So will he play? That's the big question. But you never can tell. But with United, think that's that's a ship that looks like it is sinking. Forget the fact that they won 3-0 at Bilbao in the first leg of the Europa League semi-final.
00:12:23
Wale Bakare
You cannot be sure. what you will get from that United side. But part of them rebuilding is bringing in good players. And of I've got the variety of Aze is one. So I just wonder, it might be a situation where United has been his dream. Remember, a lot of these players, Aze's 26, grew up at the time when Sir Alex Ferguson's United were winning so much. So you'd understand the attraction. But there's other...
00:12:48
Wale Bakare
there's all the other things to look into there's you know money that the club is able to pay for some players they want to stay in london stay in manchester you know stay in those places where you know there's a lot interesting activities happening so we'll have to see but adam warden is one that i think maybe there will be a lot of talks about him but might end up staying because is it's 21 if he keeps playing this way eventually someone will come for him I'm not really sure whether he's ready for the scrutiny of being the, you know, defensive midfielder for Manchester City to or Liverpool or Chelsea.
00:13:31
Wale Bakare
Moses Kayser, I mentioned earlier, struggled in his first season. He's had a fantastic season this year. know, we we've seen, what what's the what's the guy's name? The one who was at Leeds and then went to City.
00:13:43
Wale Bakare
Calvin Phillips. a
00:13:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Philips, yeah, got completely forgotten about, yeah.
00:13:46
Wale Bakare
Yeah, you know Exactly, because sometimes it's just a lot of work, you know, playing that position for these big sides, you know, games on Saturday or Sunday, on Wednesdays in the the Champions League or Thursday in the Europa League.
00:13:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
but
00:14:01
Wale Bakare
And then, you know, just playing so many games. I wonder whether Walton is ready, but it's a fantastic talent and is is a play I'm sure a lot of teams will be looking at. But it looks like the one that might maybe just stay. But Geyi and Eze, as I said, that they might leave. But it's a function of you know what the ambitions of the club is and what the club is hoping to do next season and beyond.
00:14:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I tend to agree. It's more that those are the two that are more likely going to leave. And then sort Palace will then get an injection of what, depending on it, like better part 120, 150 mil to put back into the club.
00:14:33
Wale Bakare
you.
00:14:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we are particularly good at finding these cheap bargain deals down in the championship. so but but I don't think we...
00:14:47
Wale Bakare
if If someone, I wanted to ask you, Dan, if someone comes to them, would you would you be selling them? Particularly gay and aze, you know?

Smart Transfer Market Decisions

00:14:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
very much would have to be a the right price, as you said. Like, I'm not going to give him away for free, or I would be trying to either convince Gay Heater, I don't know, get a contract extension, and then maybe put in a minimum release clause, much the same as like SA and LAC we did last year, that if they offer if a offer of what we determine and what you determine your value is worth, fine. Then there's then we're all cool. And then there's no sort of hard feelings one way or the other.
00:15:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
But it's, if it was me, i would, it still have to definitely have to be the right price. And, 70 upwards for Gahey, I think is probably about reasonable and 60 for Eze, you can't really knock that on the head either.
00:15:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Especially, I think we only got him for 10 to 20, I think. So if you're looking at the business side, that's pure profit and we've gotten probably as much as we're going to get out of him.
00:16:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
So if they leave, I would be disappointed, but it's, It's part of football and it is part of being one of those sort of smaller teams that it is
00:16:11
Wale Bakare
what it Would it would he also would he also matter to you what what clubs come in for them? Because, they you know, it's just I've just thought about, see, like, what happened with James Madison with Leicester.
00:16:23
Wale Bakare
And he moved on to Tottenham for, think, 50 million. It did seem like good money for Tottenham. But there were times when there were talks about, you know, Madison going to United or maybe City or Chelsea and the bigger guys.
00:16:37
Wale Bakare
I just wonder whether, because I'm sure clubs like Tottenham, for example, clubs like maybe even Aston Villa would look at Eberti Eze and say, well we we're we're more than able to pay for him and we wouldn't want him.
00:16:50
Wale Bakare
Is that something you'd be looking at? Would it matter the club also coming for him?
00:16:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
To a point, I think most of the clubs are sort of largely interchanging with more of... I don't want him going to a direct rival. So I don't would prefer him not to be going to say Chelsea or something like that. If he goes to any of the other ones, I'm not really that bothered. It is kind of Chelsea though.
00:17:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I think we've talked about this long enough. We have gone on a lot about this one. So um we're going to take a quick break and then we'll be back to talk about the tug of war for the FA cup final.

FA Cup Final Scheduling Conflicts

00:18:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we are back with the Daily Palace podcast. I'm your host today, Dan Tanner. I'm still joined by Wale Bakari. And we are now going to talk about the FA Cup final.
00:18:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
So for some reason, this year's one is happening on the 17th of May. So in but well as of recording this, two weeks from today.
00:18:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Not the last game of the season, which has been the last few years. I think the last few years was, I think, the last Saturday or Sunday in May.
00:18:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then the year before that was the beginning of June, i believe. So I don't know why it's not the last game of season because there's still two more. But that's not the only thing.
00:18:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
There seems to be an issue over when on the 17th it's going to happen. There seems to be a tug of war between the two major British broadcasters, BBC and ITV, on when the actual kickoff was going to happen.
00:19:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
So this gets this gets fun. So the BBC wants it to be the traditional three o'clock kickoff. on On that Sunday.
00:19:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's fine. Okay. their reason Their reason behind this is to accommodate the Eurovision Song Contest. Because if it's at 5.30, it crosses over into that broadcast on BBC One.
00:19:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
But then ITV, who are they probably the more likely to have sort of the coverage and everything like that, want to put the kickoff to 5.30.
00:19:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
dirty and their reason is to maximize viewership and advertising because they are a broadcaster that runs off advertising or a lot more as the BBC doesn't.
00:20:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
This just seems weird to me. Mine's more to a point, the it not being the last game of the season because I don't know why. Has there been any... weird scheduling fixtures, uh, uh, conflicts over the last season.
00:20:22
Wale Bakare
Well, but not not entirely.
00:20:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
can't think of any. And yeah, just, well, is it just me or does all of these reasons kind of sound insane?
00:20:32
Wale Bakare
First of all, I should say the the Champions League this season has gone on longer. first part of the Champions League went on until January this season.
00:20:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, that might, that might be a good reason.
00:20:44
Wale Bakare
there there were there were there were many There were more games.
00:20:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Cause I know they're the big thing has showed up.
00:20:47
Wale Bakare
so some ah ah I know that there's been some scheduling shifts for for some competitions. Maybe that affected the FA Cup and that's why. ah ah well and you know there's There's more league games you know going beyond the FA Cup.
00:21:00
Wale Bakare
Maybe that's why. what As far as the scheduling issue is concerned, us ah ah trust me, everyone's... They've both got their reasons and I'm sure they've had debates in their program planning conferences. And I know how tough you know some of these conversations are in media houses about program scheduling and all of that, especially when it comes to advertising for ITV and the like. So,
00:21:28
Wale Bakare
it is ah is ah is this is It's a very interesting situation. I'm sure they will you know come to an agreement eventually. It adds to the excitement of the FA Cup final.
00:21:39
Wale Bakare
Although, I just wonder whether anyone's thinking about fans who... will be coming from outside London to watch the FA Cup, starting with the City fans, for example. Of course, for a lot of Palace fans, coming in from London to the Wembley, it might be a shorter journey for them, but I'm sure it will still be a lot of stress.
00:22:00
Wale Bakare
Imagine a 5.30 start to the FA Cup final. Yeah. The game...
00:22:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
You'll have to ask Alex about that one.
00:22:06
Wale Bakare
yeah
00:22:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
He went down there on the wind. So like when you see him again, ask him how much of hassle it was to get down there.
00:22:09
Wale Bakare
yeah game you know you know And then 5.30 start means the game you know goes until 7.20 thereabout.
00:22:20
Wale Bakare
if we finish you if it If it finishes in normal time, if it goes into extra time, we're talking about you know almost after 8, 9 o'clock.
00:22:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
727, half seven, something like that. Yeah.
00:22:29
Wale Bakare
after eight nine o'clock so I just wonder whether anyone's thinking about that and you know all these other things. But what we've seen in the last couple of years is how powerful broadcasters have become in the sheddling of games. And, well, to be honest, rightly so. They you know bring a lot of money into it, so you you would understand.
00:22:52
Wale Bakare
But with the f FA Cup final, there's also some talks of traditional tradition and the traditional timing. and just sticking to it.
00:23:03
Wale Bakare
I would expect maybe that's what will prevail, but we'll We'll have to wait to see. ah ah Unfortunately, it's one of those situations where there's a tug of war between individuals that maybe the fans have no control over. You just have to sit back and you know just just leave with what they come up with. There will be a lot of complaints, I'm sure, with if if if the 5.30 kickoff is what is decided, especially with and transportation for fans getting into London and back and you know maybe even policing
00:23:37
Wale Bakare
uh you know maybe it's easier during the day than at night i don't know i'm not an expert on policing but i would expect so so i'm sure that there's other matters but for some reason but that no

Broadcasters' Influence on Football

00:23:48
Wale Bakare
one's talking about that it has to be it is the broadcaster's situation that's getting you know the the most attention and you kind of understand why
00:23:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, because I think I was reading the article as well earlier, the and the FA is also having problems with the police because until they can't guarantee anything until this is actually sorted out. So they're just as anxious to do this as well.
00:24:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
I've also seen that the BBC have taken down every mention of the f FA Cup final on their schedule. So until it's resolved, according to them, they are not going to broadcast it.
00:24:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I think on... The Palace website, the official time it's starting is midnight.
00:24:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
it's got It's got it listed as midnight. And it's just like, this is just getting just really, really stupid.
00:24:34
Wale Bakare
leave maybe
00:24:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
it
00:24:37
Wale Bakare
Maybe there's some US broadcaster getting involved with it.
00:24:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's what I thought. I read it on the fit on the the web website. but had to double check. I got that that ah a spit take. Hang on a minute. when are we doing it? So, yeah. Yeah.
00:24:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
so yeah it's yeah I think, yeah, it the kind of the broadcasters have got a little bit too much so emphasis on this because it's been a problem for a while. They're kind of notorious for adding on extra games and so like Sky in particular having five four or five games on in a day, putting ones on Boxing Day eight o'clock at night, quarter to night, and stuff like that just so they can have a full schedule.
00:25:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
So... At the moment, is not I don't think there's a lot we can do about it. They are the ones funding certain clubs and keeping certain things going.
00:25:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I think the FA and the football leagues and stuff have to have a kind of sit down with them and go, you need to kind of rein it in a bit. We can't b so yeah we can't be dictated to, essentially. like There are traditions for a reason.
00:25:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
so But we'll have to wait and see how that goes. Hopefully will get sorted out in the next couple of days. Probably not until Monday or Tuesday. So we'll just have to wait and see.
00:25:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
So with that, we'll take another quick break and then do a quick preview of the Nottingham Forest game and maybe a score prediction.
00:26:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
So we'll be right back after this.

Palace vs. Forest Game Preview

00:26:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we are back with the final part of the Daily Palace podcast brought to you by the Global Sports Podcast Network. I'm still your host today, Tanner. And we are still here with Wale Bakari.
00:27:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
So with our next game on Monday, so we get a full weekend off, which is kind of nice. Hopefully the weather stays pretty good. I don't think it will. But so we've got a weekend off. So we'll have a little preview of the game on Monday where we are playing this season's shock team, Nottingham Forest.
00:27:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, yeah, they're just being just absolute shock team this year compared to where they were this time last year, which was just about surviving in the premiership.
00:27:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't know what's gone on with them. They've made a deal with some kind of deity, be they but let be good, evil, or somewhere in between. I'm expecting some kind of penance at some point. they are goingnna get They are going to have to pay for it at some point.
00:27:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
But this is also a team that's still fighting for a European spot. It's just really which competition to go in. With a slight caveat of Palace could also affect that depending if we win and win in the FA Cup.
00:28:11
Wale Bakare
you
00:28:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
So it's going As far as I can tell, the team news, because they haven't really done the press conferences as it is a Monday game, from the little soundbites,
00:28:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Palace, there are no injuries. Everybody is all fit, no problems, and that is coming from Glasner. And for Forest, seems to be the ah ah casualty from, think it was the Brentford game, of Hudson-Odoi, probably out with a hamstring.
00:28:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
So think that's the only new team news. There may be some more in the next coming days. So why what what do you think of Forrest's complete change of fortune?
00:28:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
And if we can get a score prediction before sort of before the end of the podcast. sir So yeah, what what do you think of thes of their sudden change of fortune compared to this time last year?
00:29:08
Wale Bakare
Well, they've been absolutely... they've They've been absolutely fantastic this season. manager, Nuno Espirito, is one that I've loved from his job at Wolves. Things didn't go too well for him at Tottenham. But I was one of those that thought maybe should have gotten you know more time. But it's just been great since coming Nottingham Forest. And I've enjoyed watching them this season.
00:29:35
Wale Bakare
They give you some vibe of... the don't want to say old days but the football they play you know they they're quite direct you know they go uh um elanga and odoi this season and the you know the crosses into the box from aino and whoever's playing left back for them and you know chris wood has just been great this season so they've had a good season uh it's just uh quite unfortunate at the moment that
00:30:06
Wale Bakare
They've lost a couple of games and they now find themselves sixth in the league. They were third and they were lot closer to Arsenal than the teams below them were. But all of a sudden, they find themselves sixth.
00:30:20
Wale Bakare
That's the beauty of the Premier League and the competitiveness of the league and, of course, those European places this season. But they've still got a very big chance of... you know making top five, which will guarantee Champions League this season. I'm sure if they get a Europa League place, a lot of their fans will look at it and say, you've had a great season. It's just the Champions League is one that they don't know when they will get the opportunity again, but we never can tell.
00:30:48
Wale Bakare
so They've been great and the game against Palace will be an important one for them. They had that chance yesterday and blew it against Brentford.
00:31:00
Wale Bakare
They needed that victory yesterday, but especially considering they playing at home, but they lost it. Away at Palace is going to be difficult for them. Palace also need to keep some level of momentum going into that FA Cup final.
00:31:18
Wale Bakare
So, Glasner will be saying to the boys, you want to get results in these games. And ah lets let let's not forget, yes, Northern Forest are in the European places. They've had a great season, but these are teams that would normally be around you know where Palace is on the league table. These are teams Palace will be...
00:31:36
Wale Bakare
looking to get a victory against. But interestingly, Palace haven't had very great time against Forest and time passed. I was saying that, you know, in nine meetings, Forest have won four and there's been, you know, five five draws and Palace haven't gotten any victory over them in the league. So it might be the time to, you know, start writing that side of history, but it's quite painful for Forest, you know, what they're going through and how they've gone down on the table, considering I really was hoping they would get the Champions League. It's always nice to get, you know, that sort of story, you know, Leicester go into the Champions League, although that was a weird one, they won the league.
00:32:17
Wale Bakare
But Newcastle getting into the Champions League, Aston Villa last season. So, Nottingham Forest was going to be the story this season. But you never can tell whether they, even if

Episode Predictions and Farewell

00:32:26
Wale Bakare
they lose against, you know, Palace, which I'm hoping is what will happen.
00:32:31
Wale Bakare
Even if they lose against Palace, you know, the other guys around them, Chelsea particularly, you know, I've still got some difficult games to come as well. So maybe they will get into those Champions League places. But even if they get Europa League place, it would be a great season for them. But from from what their form has been so far, I wouldn't be surprised if Palace just run riot again over them and just get the victory on Monday.
00:32:55
Wale Bakare
but Maybe two one That's my prediction. Palace. Yeah.
00:33:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
So you're going to go 2-1? Because I was kind of thinking very much the same way.
00:33:01
Wale Bakare
Yeah.
00:33:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
So Forest aren't exactly high scorers. They're usually scoring one or two, besides from that frequent against Brighton.
00:33:12
Wale Bakare
Well, they've got seven against Brighton, remember?
00:33:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Exactly. Literally, that's the only type votes at the time. They usually like to one or two. So they're not particularly high scorers. But I do kind of remember the reverse fixture because I seem to also recall me being particularly critical about Eze in that particular night.
00:33:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I do bring it up probably fairly regularly on this podcast. So, well, it's a football podcast. I am going to repeat myself quite a few times. So... I'm kind of on the same boat as you there. so If we can get away with a draw, I would be happy, sort of a 2-2 draw.
00:33:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I think I want to go for a two one week two one win. We need to get some points up. But it's very much that we don't want to do anything silly. so it's So, yeah, not to do anything silly for the FA Cup game coming up.
00:34:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
After that, we can do what we want. but because the teams we're all playing now are kind of established of where they're going to be in the league. Um, think, yeah, Forest is the last one that's really going sort of affect their position or what sort where, not their destiny for next year.
00:34:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, But we can affect that as well by winning the FA Cup, depending on which is also depending on where they finish as well. So it's still kind of up in the air.
00:34:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
so So between the two of us, we're going 2-1, are we? So, yeah.
00:34:41
Wale Bakare
Yeah, looks like.
00:34:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, cool. And I think on that note, I think we will end it there. Thank you very much, Wale. It's been a pleasure.
00:34:49
Wale Bakare
Thanks, Ben.
00:34:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
You've been away far too long. No more long breaks until the season's over, yeah?
00:34:56
Wale Bakare
I'll try.
00:34:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I want to do a holiday again.
00:35:02
