Thank you for joining me as we learn about the connection between Passover, First Fruits, Shavuot (pronounced shav-oo-oat) and Pentecost. As part of understanding and observing the festivals that God has appointed for us to observe, we count the Omer (pronounced oh-mare) today and then have our daily Bible reading session!

Here is the link for a downloadable devotional if you would like to count the Omer for yourself. It has been put out by the Messianic Jewish Congregation Shoresh David in Florida:   https://www.shoreshdavid.org/download/counting-the-omer-booklet/

Today's reading covers 1 Kings Chapter 18. We will read about God telling Elijah to find King Ahab and let him know that God will send rain after 3 years of no rain in the land. We will see Elijah gather Israel and the false prophets of the fake gods to challenge them to call their false god to light their sacrifice on their alter. Then we will see God consume HIS offering on HIS alter that had been covered in water with fire! In our discussion for daily application we will discuss how God lovingly gathered His lost Israel to Himself, who were wandering like sheep. We will see discuss how frequently God continues to this very day to seek His lost sheep who do not even know they are lost! We will talk about God sending His Son, Jesus, to die for our sins, while we were still lost, so that He could gather us to Himself, the same way He gathered Israel to himself so long ago! Lastly, we will be encouraged to click that LIGHT button and help spread the word about reading God's Word so that we can bring attention to this event in the hopes that others may listen to this message and know that GOD LOVES THEM and is LOOKING FOR THEM, even though they don't know they are lost!

Introduction and Podcast Welcome

00:00:03
Speaker
Shabbat Shalom, everybody. Today is Saturday. It's May 3rd, 2025, and you are here with Robin at In the Family Way Coaching.

Bible Reading and Counting the Omer

00:00:13
Speaker
Thank you for joining me as we go through the Bible this year.
00:00:17
Speaker
We are reading the Day by Day Kids Bible, which has been written by Karen Henley. And if you are following along with your commitment calendar, it's time to get that out.
00:00:28
Speaker
Get your sticker ready or however you're marking off your daily commitment because you're about to hear the Bible today.
00:00:36
Speaker
We are also here for our daily counting of the Omer. And if you are interested in following along and counting the Omer with me, just repeat after me. And we will do that in just a moment. And first, while I get that ready, I want to thank you for listening and following along.
00:00:55
Speaker
I'm so glad that you're here, whether you are following along on your favorite podcasting app or whether you're watching the video somewhere. Thank you for taking the time to choose this event as part of your daily commitment to read God's word or to hear God's word as the case may be with us.

Significance and Resources for Counting the Omer

00:01:12
Speaker
I hope that everybody is enjoying this event as much as I am enjoying recording it with you. And I hope that you are finding it inspirational and ah just good learning.
00:01:26
Speaker
If you would like to count the Omer with me, simply repeat after me and then you will have also counted the Omer.
00:01:34
Speaker
Blessed are you, o Lord our God, King of the universe, who has set us apart by your commandments and has commanded us to count the Omer.
00:01:53
Speaker
Today is the sixth day of the third week and day 20. I have counted the Omer.
00:02:07
Speaker
I as ah have been listing in the detailed description the location where you can click on the link to go to shereshdavid.org.

Devotional: Fruit of the Spirit

00:02:16
Speaker
It is a Messianic Jewish congregation based out of Florida.
00:02:20
Speaker
And that is where I have been using the daily devotion for counting the Omer. You don't need to have a daily devotion. That's just an easy way to keep track and keep count. But if you are interested in following along with your own a daily counting of the Omer, such as when you don't have time to get to this reading event, then that will be helpful for you.
00:02:43
Speaker
And I want to be sure that I give credit for where I have found this resource. And they have a wonderful little devotional that goes for the whole 50 days of the counting of the Omer. And I especially enjoyed today's theme, which is entitled the fruit of the spirit.
00:02:59
Speaker
Each day is just a very short ah one page thing. It gives you a verse, a theme, a thought, a challenge, and three lines to write what you made but what you might like to write about it in response to the challenge.

Narrative of Elijah's Story Begins

00:03:16
Speaker
And I will have that link in the description below if you would like to download your own copy of that.
00:03:23
Speaker
Well, we are reading about Elijah in our daily reading, and i can't wait to get into it. Elijah is an amazing prophet who did a lot of amazing things. God really used him in his time as a prophet.
00:03:38
Speaker
And ah Elijah was actually quite special because he ah did not go through death. God took him up and took him away, but he did not experience death.
00:03:51
Speaker
So Elijah was a very special prophet. So we should pay close attention to Elijah's teaching.
00:04:01
Speaker
Today's reading comes to us out of 1 Kings chapter 18. And as we saw yesterday, God was refusing to send rain. And it wouldn't rain until Elijah said it would.
00:04:15
Speaker
And God was supernaturally caring for both Elijah and a woman who was making food for him. And we saw yesterday that she would continue to have enough flour and enough oil until God made it rain.
00:04:32
Speaker
And here we're going to see that God will bring the rain again. But look how long it was. Our section today is entitled Fire on Carmel Mountain.
00:04:46
Speaker
Three years had passed since the rain stopped. Wow, three years. God told Elijah, go to King Ahab.
00:04:58
Speaker
I'm going to make it rain. So Elijah went to see King Ahab. No food was growing and there was not much to eat. It was very bad in Samaria.
00:05:11
Speaker
King Ahab called for Obadiah. He was in charge of Ahab's palace. Go look all over the land, said Ahab. Look for brooks.
00:05:22
Speaker
See if you can find grass for our horses and mules. Maybe we can keep them alive and then we won't have to kill any of them. King Ahab sent Obadiah through part of the land and Ahab went to look through the other part.
00:05:38
Speaker
Now Obadiah believed in God and Queen Jezebel had killed many of God's prophets, but Obadiah had saved 100 of them. He had hidden 50 of them in one cave and he had hidden 50 more in another cave.
00:05:55
Speaker
He had given them food and water. Now Obadiah was walking along and he met Elijah. Obadiah knew Elijah, so he bowed down and he said, "'Is that really you, Elijah?' "'Yes,' said Elijah.
00:06:12
Speaker
"'Go tell King Ahab that I am here.' "'Do you want to get me killed?' asked Obadiah. "'What have I ever done to you? "'King Ahab has looked everywhere for you. "'Now you tell me to say Elijah is here.' What if God's spirit takes you somewhere else?
00:06:32
Speaker
What if I tell King Ahab you're here? And then what if you're not here when he gets here? King Ahab would kill me for that. Obadiah went on. I have worshipped God ever since I was a boy.
00:06:46
Speaker
Do you know what I did when Jezebel killed the prophets? i hid 100 them. I brought food and water to them, but now you want me to tell Ahab they're here.
00:06:58
Speaker
i just know he will kill me. I'll be here, said Elijah. I promise I must talk to King Ahab today.
00:07:11
Speaker
So Obadiah found King Ahab. Then King Ahab went to see Elijah, and Elijah was there. Is that you, you troublemaker?
00:07:22
Speaker
Asked King Ahab.

Elijah's Challenge and God's Power

00:07:24
Speaker
I didn't make trouble, said Elijah. You made trouble. Your father's family made trouble. You turned away from God and you worshiped Baal idols.
00:07:36
Speaker
Now call the people of Israel together. Come to Carmel Mountain. Bring Baal's 450 prophets. Bring worship other idols. bring the other four hundred prophets who worship other item
00:07:50
Speaker
So Ahab got the people together and he called the idols prophets together. They all went to Carmel Mountain. Then Elijah talked to the people.
00:08:02
Speaker
How long will it be before you choose? He asked. Follow the Lord if he is God, but follow Baal if Baal is God.
00:08:14
Speaker
The people didn't say anything. I'm the only prophet of God left. said Elijah. But here are 450 prophets of Baal. Give us two bulls.
00:08:27
Speaker
The other prophets can choose which bull they want. They can kill it and they can put the meat on their altar, but they cannot set it on fire.
00:08:39
Speaker
Then I'll get the other bull ready, said Elijah. I'll put its meat on my altar, but I won't set it on fire. Then you call for Baal.
00:08:51
Speaker
I'll call for God. And the one who answers by sending fire must be God. Oh, that's good, said the people. You go first, said Elijah to Baal's prophets.
00:09:06
Speaker
Call for Baal's help. Don't start the fire yourselves. So they chose a bull and they killed it. They put it on the altar and then they called.
00:09:18
Speaker
Baal, answer us. Baal's prophets called from morning until noon, but there was no answer.
00:09:29
Speaker
At noon, Elijah said, call louder. You're sure Baal's a god, aren't you? Maybe he is thinking. Maybe he is busy. Maybe he's gone on a trip.
00:09:43
Speaker
Maybe he is sleeping. You'll have to wake him up. So they called louder and louder, they even cut themselves. And that's what they always did.
00:09:56
Speaker
They were bleeding. But there was no answer. They kept this up until evening. At last, Elijah told the people, come here.
00:10:09
Speaker
So they came.
00:10:11
Speaker
Elijah took them over to an old altar. It had been built to worship God. Elijah got 12 stones. Each stone stood for a family group of God's people.
00:10:26
Speaker
Elijah built up the altar with these stones. Then Elijah dug a small pit all the way around the altar. He put wood on the altar.
00:10:38
Speaker
He put the bull meat on the wood. And then he said, fill four big jars of water. Put the water all over the meat and the wood.
00:10:51
Speaker
So the people did. Now do that again, said Elijah. And they did. Do that one more time, said Elijah.
00:11:04
Speaker
So they did. The water went all over the altar. It flowed down the altar into the pit, and water filled the pit. Then Elijah prayed.
00:11:16
Speaker
God, show that you are God in Israel. Show that I am your servant. Show that I am obeying you. Answer me, God, and let these people know that you are God.
00:11:32
Speaker
Then fire came down from God onto the altar, and it burned up the meat. It burned up the wood. It burned up the stones. It burned up the dirt, and it burned up the water in the pit.
00:11:46
Speaker
The people were watching. They bowed down with their faces to the ground. The Lord is God, they shouted. The Lord is God.

Elijah Prays for Rain and Reflection on God's Love

00:11:57
Speaker
Catch Baal's prophets, said Elijah, and do not let them get away.
00:12:02
Speaker
So the people held on to Baal's prophets and they took them into the valley. They killed them there. Go, said Elijah to King Ahab, eat and drink.
00:12:15
Speaker
It sounds like it's going to rain. King Ahab left, but Elijah went back up Carmel Mountain. He bent down and put his head between his knees.
00:12:27
Speaker
Go look out to the sea, he told his servant. His servant went and looked out to the sea. I don't see anything, said his servant.
00:12:39
Speaker
Elijah told him to go back and look again. So he went again, but he saw nothing. Elijah sent him back again. He went, but he saw nothing.
00:12:52
Speaker
The servant ended up going to look seven times. The last time he looked, the servant said, I see something. It's a cloud.
00:13:03
Speaker
It's small, like a person's hand, and it's coming up from the sea. Go tell Ahab to get in his chariot, said Elijah. Tell him to leave before the rain keeps him from riding.
00:13:18
Speaker
The sky got dark with clouds. Wind started blowing. Heavy rain started coming down. Ahab left to go into the city. Then God's power came upon Elijah and he tucked his coat into his belt and ran.
00:13:35
Speaker
He ran past Ahab and he ran all the way to the city.
00:13:41
Speaker
That's the end of our reading today.
00:13:45
Speaker
Wow, the people went three years without rain and they were still worshiping Baal rather than God.
00:13:56
Speaker
We're going to see for our daily application today just how much God loves you, how much God loves me, and how much God loved his children of Israel.
00:14:11
Speaker
They were not looking for him. They were not seeking him. They were lost and they didn't even know it. And yet God sent Elijah to show a great and powerful sign.
00:14:26
Speaker
Water puts out fire, but nothing is impossible for God. God was gathering his people together. in their lostness.
00:14:38
Speaker
He was gathering his lost sheep. He went looking for his lost sheep in the same way that he went looking for you and in the same way he went looking for me in order to save you, to save me, and to save his people Israel.
00:14:57
Speaker
God did not have to go looking for his people. He did not have to perform a wonderful sign with fire. on the altar, but he did it.
00:15:08
Speaker
He did it to show his people and to remind them that he loves them and that he is indeed God. And God did this same thing when he sent Jesus while we were still sinners because we were all lost like sheep gone astray.
00:15:28
Speaker
And while we were lost, He sent his son to die for us, to die for you, to die for me, to die for all of our sins personally, so that he could gather you to him, so that he could gather me to him, so that he could gather his children to him and be reconciled with him.
00:15:52
Speaker
Our God loves us so much. He comes after us when we are lost
00:16:02
Speaker
And I pray that you spread the word to everybody that you find. God is looking for those people as well. He is gathering his lost sheep who do not even know they are lost to himself.
00:16:18
Speaker
God does not desire that anyone should perish, but that all should come to everlasting life in him. And he knows that he wants you to be a part of his family.
00:16:30
Speaker
And that's why he called you. And I'm so glad that you are here. i want you to know how much he loves you. He loves you so much that he sent Jesus while you were lost and wandering and you didn't even know it.
00:16:45
Speaker
While I was lost and wandering and I didn't even know it, he called me because he loves me.
00:16:53
Speaker
And that is our application for today. God shows us time and time again that he comes after us and he looks for us, even when we don't know that we're lost, we're not even looking for him.
00:17:10
Speaker
So I hope that you have somebody that you know that might be interested or could benefit from hearing this event to know that they too are wanted by God and they don't even know it.
