Introduction and Excitement for Bible Reading

00:00:03
Speaker
Good day, everybody. Today is November 30th. My name is Robin. I am with In the Family Way Coaching, and I am so excited to bring you today's reading out of the Day by Day Kids Bible, written by Karen Henley.
00:00:18
Speaker
I am so excited. i have had an opportunity today to talk with so many people and ah it's just, God has given me an awesome day. So I am really hoping that wherever you are,
00:00:33
Speaker
wherever you are listening or watching, that you are also having a fantastic day.

Importance of Spreading God's Word

00:00:40
Speaker
And God has just been guiding me for people to talk to about his word and about this event. And I just love that.
00:00:49
Speaker
I just love being able to spread the word about reading God's word. So if you are excited too and have been keeping track of your commitment to hear the Bible each day, then go ahead and get out that calendar, get out that sticker, your crayon, your marker, your pen, your pencil, whatever you are using to cross off those days.
00:01:11
Speaker
Because we're going to hear the Bible today.
00:01:17
Speaker
I would like to give a shout out to Lex. Thank you so much for Alexis for listening and watching and for following and subscribing. Thank you so much for your your great company today at work. I really enjoyed our conversation.
00:01:33
Speaker
And welcome also to Maria. Thank you so much for being here with me. Thank you for also listening and subscribing and for helping me to spread the word about reading God's word.
00:01:45
Speaker
Now you may not think that that's what you've done yet, but by clicking that light button, which is your subscribe button, which you did when you checked out my, uh, this event here, that is showing your light.
00:02:00
Speaker
That is helping to spread the word about reading God's word because that helps other people to see it as it pops up in their feed on YouTube, since that's where you went to and it is helping the event.
00:02:14
Speaker
So thank you so much for that. And if you have already also subscribed, whoever you are out there, thank you so much.

Goal of Providing an Easy Bible Version

00:02:23
Speaker
I don't care about being popular or or having likes for me or having subscribers for me. My goal throughout this whole year has been to spread the word about reading God's word and to have an easy to understand Bible version. that helps us to know how we can apply God's word to our lives every single day.
00:02:48
Speaker
And so I am just so excited to be doing that this year, in case you couldn't tell. ah Well, with that said, let us head into our reading today.

Bible Reading from Philippians and Timothy

00:02:59
Speaker
Today, we are going to be checking out the last chapter of Philippians, which is chapter four.
00:03:08
Speaker
And then we will begin the book or the letter, I should say, of 1 Timothy. And we are going to read chapters one and two of 1 Timothy.
00:03:20
Speaker
And we will talk a little bit more about that once we get there. For now, let's finish off our letter to the Philippians. Now, Paul has been telling the Philippians um about...
00:03:36
Speaker
rejoicing in God.

Paul's Message on Rejoicing and Kindness

00:03:38
Speaker
And so we're going to hear that again. i know we didn't focus on that, but the very first sentence in chapter three, which we read yesterday, was to finally, my brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord.
00:03:52
Speaker
Show how happy God makes you. And he repeats that same thing at the beginning of chapter four. He says, rejoice in the Lord always.
00:04:04
Speaker
Always show how happy God makes you. I will say it again. Show your joy. Let everybody see clearly how kind you are. Now, God is near.
00:04:21
Speaker
So don't worry about anything. Instead, pray and ask God for everything.

Prayer and God's Peace

00:04:31
Speaker
I forgot to mention, but our focus today is going to be on prayer.
00:04:37
Speaker
So I want us to pay special attention to all of the verses that we are reading about today that deal with prayer, okay? God is near, so don't worry about anything.
00:04:51
Speaker
Instead, pray and ask God for everything and thank him when you tell him what you need. Then God's peace will guard your hearts and minds.
00:05:07
Speaker
God's peace is greater than anyone can understand. Think about things that are true and good. Think about things that are right and clean.
00:05:20
Speaker
Think about beautiful things. Think about things you can look up to. If anything is the best, think about it. And if it's something to cheer for, think about it.
00:05:36
Speaker
I'm glad you are thinking about me. You wanted the best for me, and you just didn't have any way to show it. And I don't really need anything.

Contentment and Strength through Jesus

00:05:47
Speaker
I have also learned how to be happy no matter what.
00:05:51
Speaker
I know what it's like to need things. I know what it's like to have more than enough. I have learned the secret to being happy all the time.
00:06:04
Speaker
I can be happy if I'm well fed. i can be happy if I'm hungry. i can be happy if I have all I need. i can be happy if I need things.
00:06:15
Speaker
The secret is this. I can do everything with Jesus's help. He makes me strong.
00:06:29
Speaker
You were kind to help me in my troubles. Remember when you first heard the good news? You were the only church that shared with me.
00:06:41
Speaker
You gave to me again and again when I needed it. Now I'm not looking for a gift. I'm looking for the good that you do.
00:06:53
Speaker
I want God to bring good to you for any good you do. i have been paid enough. You sent Epaphroditus with your gifts. God is happy with these gifts.
00:07:06
Speaker
And God will give you all you need. He gives out his great riches. He gives out of his great riches. Jesus brings these riches.
00:07:19
Speaker
Tell all God's people hello. and All of God's people here say hi. Most of all, the ones in Caesar's house say hello.
00:07:32
Speaker
I pray that Jesus' kind love will be with you. Yes. Amen.
00:07:42
Speaker
From Paul and Timothy.
00:07:46
Speaker
Now we're going to begin the first chapter of 1 Timothy. 1 Timothy.

Chronological Reading and Paul's Letters

00:07:51
Speaker
Timothy, now at this point in time, now if you are new, you may not remember or or realize that our Bible is written chronologically.
00:08:01
Speaker
So we are reading this big story in timeline order. So we know that when when Paul wrote the letter to Timothy, the first letter to Timothy, it occurred after he wrote the letter to the Philippians.
00:08:18
Speaker
And so we're going to read them in that order. This whole year, we've been reading the Bible in timeline order, in one chronological timeline.
00:08:31
Speaker
So now it's been some time later and Paul wrote this to his friend Timothy. Because if you remember as we just finished Ephesians, this letter to the, or I'm sorry, not Ephesians, Philippians, that letter was from Paul and Timothy.
00:08:47
Speaker
But now Timothy has gone on to Ephesus and he is working there and Paul is writing to him there. So sometime later, Paul wrote to his friend Timothy,
00:09:01
Speaker
Dear Timothy, i have told you this before. Stay in Ephesus. Then you can tell people they are not to teach lies.
00:09:13
Speaker
It just brings fussing and fighting, and it doesn't do God's work any good. Some people talk about things that are not important.

Purpose of the Law and Personal Testimony

00:09:23
Speaker
They want to teach God's law, but they don't know what they are saying. Now we know that the law is good. And it's good if you use it the right way.
00:09:35
Speaker
But the law was not made for people who do right. The law was made for people who do wrong. Jesus makes me strong.
00:09:47
Speaker
And I thank him for that. He thought I could follow him no matter what. And so he chose me to serve him.
00:09:58
Speaker
actually going to read that out of our big bible as well because i was really i wanted to impress upon us that when paul wrote this to timothy he was giving his own witness about how he became an apostle and he says in verse 12 of chapter 1 I thank Messiah Jesus our Lord who has strengthened me because he considered me faithful, appointing me to service, even though i was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and a violent man.
00:10:41
Speaker
Yet I was shown mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief. And the grace of our Lord overflowed with the faith and love that are in Messiah Jesus.
00:10:59
Speaker
I thought that was so beautiful and so rich. I wanted to be sure I included that with us today.
00:11:08
Speaker
Here is a saying that you can believe. Jesus came to the world to save sinners. and I am the biggest sinner of all, Paul writes.
00:11:21
Speaker
But that's why Jesus was kind to me. And it shows how he waits for people. He waits for them to come to him.
00:11:32
Speaker
If you do not yet have Jesus as your Savior, he is waiting for you.

Instruction to Timothy and Fighting the Good Fight

00:11:38
Speaker
That's not in our Bible reading today. That's my personal add-on message to you. If you are listening and you have not yet come to a faith of your own, Jesus is waiting for you.
00:11:53
Speaker
Back to our reading. God is the king who will live for forever. He will never die. Let the king be great forever.
00:12:04
Speaker
he can't be seen by human eyes. He is the only God. Yes. Amen.
00:12:15
Speaker
Timothy, you are like a son to me. Follow what I teach. And then life will be like fighting a good fight. You will keep believing no matter what.
00:12:28
Speaker
And you will know. that you are doing right. Some people have turned away from what I teach and their faith is like a ship that has crashed.
00:12:43
Speaker
We're going to start chapter two and I wanted to read some of this from our big Bible as well. Chapter two, verse one.

Prayer for Leaders and Living Peacefully

00:12:52
Speaker
Now, Paul is referring to what he just wrote about. Some people have turned away from what I teach, and their faith is like a ship that has crashed.
00:13:03
Speaker
Therefore, first of all, I urge that requests, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be made on behalf of all people.
00:13:17
Speaker
For kings and all who are in authority, so that we may live a peaceful and quiet life in all godliness and respectfulness.
00:13:34
Speaker
When we pray for these things, God is happy. He wants everybody to be saved. He wants everybody to know the truth. There is one God.
00:13:48
Speaker
There is one person who talks to God for people, and that is Jesus. He gave his life to buy us back from sin.
00:14:00
Speaker
I want all people to lift up their hands to pray, and they should do it without being angry, and they shouldn't fuss with each other.
00:14:11
Speaker
Women should wear clothes that cover enough of their bodies.

Appropriate Conduct and Prayer's Role

00:14:15
Speaker
And women shouldn't be known just for the way they wear their hair. They shouldn't be known for their gold or their pearls. And they should not be known for clothes that cost a lot of money.
00:14:26
Speaker
Women should be known for the good things they do. So apparently they were having difficulty with this in Ephesus. That's where the Ephesians were. And they should act like people who worship God.
00:14:40
Speaker
A woman should listen and learn. She should obey her leaders. I don't let a woman teach or lead a man because she should be quiet and that's because God made Adam first and then he made Eve.
00:14:56
Speaker
Adam did not believe Satan's lie but Eve did and she sinned. And women will have children and will be saved. And they are to keep believing and loving.
00:15:08
Speaker
And they are to have hearts that are clean from sin.
00:15:15
Speaker
And that is the end of our reading today.
00:15:20
Speaker
So did you hear a lot about prayer? Even though we covered two different books, God is writing about prayer in both of them.
00:15:32
Speaker
If we go back to Philippians chapter 4, Paul tells us that God is near, so don't worry about anything.
00:15:47
Speaker
Instead, pray and ask God for everything and thank him when you tell him what you need. Then God's peace will guard your hearts and minds.
00:16:01
Speaker
God's peace is greater than anyone can understand.
00:16:06
Speaker
So it is good for us to pray about anything and everything. In Philippians, Paul is letting us know that we need we can pray for ourselves.
00:16:18
Speaker
That's okay. And when we do, we are to be thankful to God. Because God will send us his peace. And his peace will guard our hearts and our minds.
00:16:30
Speaker
What is it guarding it from? Anxiety and worry.
00:16:37
Speaker
And God's peace is greater than anyone can understand. Now, why does he say to thank him when you tell him what you need? Jesus taught us that when we pray, we are to pray as though God has already answered our prayer.
00:16:54
Speaker
So if when we pray, we believe that God is already answering our prayer, then it is appropriate for us to be thankful for that answer that we know that he is going to give us.
00:17:06
Speaker
Because God wants us to come to him with everything that we need. And he will answer us and he will always give us his peace. Then he tells us in 1 Timothy that he urges that requests and prayers and intercessions and thanksgiving be made on behalf of all people.
00:17:37
Speaker
So if you are unfamiliar with some of these big words, intercession is when we pray for other people. And when we read the Old Covenant or the Old Testament, one of the things that God was upset with about his people in when they were still living in Jerusalem before they were exiled, is that they were not praying for one another. They were not interceding for each other.
00:18:03
Speaker
We are meant to pray for one another. We are to bear one another's burdens. We are to be sad with people who are sad. We are to be happy with people who are happy.
00:18:15
Speaker
We are to pray for other people. It says, requests, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be made on behalf of all people.
00:18:31
Speaker
Now, this is also in alignment with Jesus who told us to pray for our enemies. It's easy to pray for people we love and like, but it can be more complicated and difficult to pray for people we don't like.
00:18:47
Speaker
Our enemies, people who irritate us, people who make us angry, people we are arguing with. We are to pray for all people.
00:18:58
Speaker
Why is that? Paul says that this is so that we may live a peaceful and quiet life in all godliness and respectfulness.
00:19:13
Speaker
We show respect when we pray for other people. We are respecting people. People will always want to feel that others are respecting them.

Salvation and Knowing the Truth

00:19:25
Speaker
We do not have to like everybody, but it's important that we show respect for others.
00:19:34
Speaker
Paul says that this is good and pleasing in the sight of God, our Savior. Because God desires all men to be saved and come into the knowledge of the truth.
00:19:48
Speaker
For there is one God and there is one mediator between God and men, Messiah Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all.
00:20:00
Speaker
So it is, it makes God happy. When we pray for all people, we need to pray for people to come to God's saving grace. We need to pray that God will care for them and take care of their needs. If they are sad, we can pray for them, that God will comfort them and that they will come to have a saving grace so that they may receive God's Holy Spirit and that God's Holy Spirit may bring them comfort.
00:20:27
Speaker
Because one of the things the Holy Spirit does is he is our comforter. He sends us comfort. That means he makes us feel better when we are sad or upset about things.
00:20:40
Speaker
These are wonderful gifts and connections that God gives us when we become believers. And we have responsibility to pray for others, just like Jesus told us, to pray for our enemies, pray for everybody.
00:20:56
Speaker
We've spoken a lot this year about doing what God wants us to do.

Following Jesus's Will and Praying for Leaders

00:21:01
Speaker
Yesterday, that was our big application, is to do what Jesus wants us to do rather than what we want to do.
00:21:08
Speaker
Because that's the big picture thinking rather than immediate in the moment thinking where we might be thinking about ourselves and the fact that we are angry and and it's difficult to pray for somebody that we are angry with.
00:21:23
Speaker
But that's exactly what Jesus wants us to do. And Paul tells us today that it makes God happy, that it is pleasing and good in the sight of God and in Jesus's sight as well.
00:21:36
Speaker
And that's what Jesus wants us to do. And also when we pray for people to be thankful to God too, because we know that God will answer our prayers.
00:21:48
Speaker
God wants everybody to come to Saving Grace today. so that they will come and note come into the knowledge of the truth. God doesn't want anybody to perish, to die, but he wants all people to be saved.
00:22:05
Speaker
Not everybody will choose to accept God's gift. We know that. But we can certainly help the process by praying for everybody. Paul says in our writing today,
00:22:18
Speaker
to pray for kings, pray for anybody who is in charge, and pray that we can be godly and clean in our hearts. It can be difficult to pray for political leaders that we don't agree with, but we are supposed to do it.
00:22:35
Speaker
We need to pray that they make decisions that benefit us, that benefit all of the people, And then we also need to remember that nobody is in a place of authority without God having allowed it to be that way.
00:22:49
Speaker
And God can work through anybody. He worked through Nebuchadnezzar. He worked through a whole line of of Babylonian kings and Assyrian kings once the Jewish people had gone into exile.
00:23:04
Speaker
He worked through a lot of people to make what he was to make his plans occur, to make them happen God can work through everybody, even people we don't like.
00:23:16
Speaker
Isn't that amazing? And then God's peace, God's peace, which is greater than all understanding, will come to us when we pray for people, especially if we are praying for people that we are not very pleased with or or like very much.
00:23:34
Speaker
God will honor our heart and he will give us peace that is beyond understanding. And he will be happy with us. And isn't it good to know that we are doing something that is right and good and making God happy?
00:23:50
Speaker
When we are making God the most important one, God takes care of us. He does things that we can't even imagine. He repays our kindness.
00:24:01
Speaker
Paul says to always let everybody know.
00:24:07
Speaker
Let's see how how kind we are. Let everybody see how clearly how kind you are. And praying for somebody is showing kindness for them.
00:24:21
Speaker
And then we can be joyful. It's not part of our specific daily application, but it is important to rejoice always in God, especially when we pray.
00:24:32
Speaker
To rejoice and be thankful to God for everything that he does for us. And that's one of the things that we can do when we pray, is that we can rejoice. i was talking with somebody today about prayer.

Prayer as a Conversation with God

00:24:45
Speaker
And I like to explain prayer like this. or to suggest prayer like this. Prayer is just talking to God.
00:24:57
Speaker
And God wants us to make him a part of our day, every day, all day. And all of us have been given a voice in our head.
00:25:08
Speaker
We talk to ourselves. And there's even a song that comes to mind as I say that that says, I talk to myself because there is no one to talk to.
00:25:21
Speaker
I am convinced that that voice in our head that we use to talk to ourselves is actually meant to be used to talk to God. That's how we pray. We talk to God.
00:25:33
Speaker
We can talk to him about anything and everything, all the time. God made us. He made us who we are. So he's always interested in all the stuff we think is cool that we are doing. Wow, did you see me do that? That was so cool.
00:25:49
Speaker
And sometimes it can be disappointing when other people don't care as much about the things that we think are cool that we have been able to attain or achieve or do.
00:26:01
Speaker
But guess what? God made you to do those things. He made you capable. So when we want to tell somebody about something that we have done, because we are excited about it, tell God about it when you are bothered by something or irritated about something, instead of stewing about it in your mind, talk to God about it.
00:26:26
Speaker
Don't talk to yourself. Talk to God. And he will talk back, I promise. but He always does. Just tonight, as I was reading ah our in our daily Bible reading today, i said, Lord, what do you want me to talk about?

Guidance in Choosing Prayer Topics

00:26:45
Speaker
And he gave me one word. prayer. And I said, all right. So then knowing that that was what the goal was to talk about prayer, i was able to look at our reading and see all the stuff about prayer. And I'd already been reading it. So I knew that we had stuff about prayer that we were reading about, but how it all comes together and how it connected from one book to another.
00:27:12
Speaker
Prayer is important. Just like when you have a new friend, you talk with somebody and you're excited, you want to get to know them and you ask them questions and and you want them to get to know you.
00:27:27
Speaker
well guess what? God knows us. God knows you. But we can use that time to get to know him and he will reveal himself to us.
00:27:39
Speaker
So that's another way that we can spend our time in prayer. When you say, i don't know what to talk about. Just as though you were thinking. Instead of spending your time just thinking and talking to yourself about random stuff, talk to God.
00:27:57
Speaker
That is prayer. Well, I hope that you feel encouraged and feel like this is attainable for you. i hope that you feel that this is applicable for you. And I hope that you feel that God has lit your light.
00:28:11
Speaker
I know that he has lit my light. I told you I was very excited to get to today's daily reading. but i I think it's just an awesome daily application today. And God even used it in my own life today.
00:28:24
Speaker
It was telling me ahead of time what I was going to be talking about, but I didn't know it. God was connecting those dots when I was talking with somebody about prayer today. It's just amazing.
00:28:37
Speaker
I love how God works everything together, that he brings people into our lives so that we can do this. Well, thank you so much for joining me today. Whether you have been following along today on your podcast or whether you're on your video, I'm so thankful that you are here with me.
00:28:52
Speaker
If you are hungry for more of God's word and you want to read more of what's in our big Bible, check out the last chapter of Philippians chapter four and then the first two chapters of first Timothy.

Conclusion and Blessing

00:29:06
Speaker
And I hope that you have a wonderful day. Paul actually had a prayer in here, and I'm going to pray that again over you as we conclude our time together.
00:29:18
Speaker
Paul said that I pray that Jesus's kind love will be with you. Yes. Amen. And God wants all people to come into the knowledge of the truth.
00:29:31
Speaker
So I pray that you, as you are listening, that you are coming into knowledge and the truth of the truth of our one and only true God and his son, our savior, Jesus.
00:29:47
Speaker
And it's in Jesus' that name that I pray for you today. amen Until we meet again next time, have a very, very blessed and wonderful time praying and talking with God and Jesus about anything and everything.
