Challenges of Recording and Work at Amazon

00:00:25
Speaker
me. I know that the past week or so or two weeks, I have been getting these out really late. I have been working a lot of hours and so it's it's just been tough for me to get these out each day, but I am doing it. And man, oh man, I'm just tired today. So if my eyes look a little droopy, it's because it's almost midnight for me.
00:00:46
Speaker
here And I am I am pooped. but This is Black Friday. And some of you may not know that I work for Amazon. And so it has been extremely busy today. And I pick orders for the most part. I do some packing, too. And I actually trained in a couple of different process paths. But I do a lot of picking orders and I am just tired. ah It is excellent exercise. I will tell you that. And that's one of the reasons why I love doing it so much is because it's such great exercise. But boy, oh boy, by the end of the night, I am tired. I got home around um little after 10 o'clock tonight and I was and then I needed to eat dinner.
00:01:32
Speaker
And it was just really hard because i I needed to finish my reading even and to be able to get this ready to go for our we ah recording. And I am tired, so if you don't mind just praying for me, i am doing my best to get these out in the earlier part of the day. And i I feel badly not getting them out in the early part of the day.

Health Update and Diabetes Study

00:01:54
Speaker
But in the morning times, I have other things to do sometimes too, and I have not been making it as great a priority as I have been trying to do my own shopping as well online. So I did some of that today, so that was I'm guilty for that as well.
00:02:10
Speaker
And I've been, I have a praise report, actually. I've been really excited because I told you that i spent about five hours with my husband in the ER r a couple of weeks ago. And it was...
00:02:26
Speaker
right after he has ah he's been accepted into a study for his diabetes. So that event led him to take a greater interest in his health, for his diabetes health.
00:02:42
Speaker
And you i told you, i God works everything into good, absolutely everything. And that event has motivated him to be more conscientious of his health and to do a little more things like exercise and monitoring what he's intaking that affect his numbers.
00:03:02
Speaker
And I'm just super excited about that because God also provided this study, which gave him um a continuous glucose monitor on the back of his arm for the next six months.
00:03:15
Speaker
And so we are getting to see his numbers all the time. And he just he doesn't like to check his numbers because he says they're always bad. So he's not really he doesn't want to just always see bad news. Plus, it's uncomfortable to keep pricking his finger.
00:03:32
Speaker
And it's always me who has to do it because he just doesn't want to do it because he doesn't want to see the bad numbers. Whereas I want to see what's going on. And so now he doesn't have to prick his finger, but he's able to see his numbers and he is taking a very big interest since he was randomized into being able to use the monitor.
00:03:52
Speaker
So I actually was spending a great deal of time this morning and during the day today while I was at work observing his numbers. It's become like a little hobby now. So I'm actually guilty of doing that a good portion of the morning instead of getting my reading done and then talking with him about his numbers and and then activities and such like that. So I've just been very focused on reading.
00:04:19
Speaker
his his diabetes care lately and it's taken a lot of my interest lately so i apologize for getting these readings out ah readings not ah not his readings these readings out so late in the day it's been a little hard for me and i feel like i'm i've been running this race all year and i've been doing a pretty good job but man i feel like i must be getting tired So thank you for your grace and your patience as I am sometimes increasingly later getting these out for you. So thank you so much for your faithfulness as well. Whatever day or whatever time you get around to catching up with me to listen to these daily readings. I love the fact that you are here with me and it means a great deal to me that you are helping me spread the word about reading God's word and that you are receiving the reading of God's word. and finding the daily applications useful in your life.

Ephesians 6: Armor of God

00:05:16
Speaker
So with that, let's take out their our bookmarking commitment calendars, if you are using yours, and let's get our sticker ready so we can cross off those days, because we're about to hear the Bible today.
00:05:34
Speaker
Today we are going to be picking up in Ephesians chapter 6 and we're going to be completing the book of Ephesians and then we are going to be beginning the book of the thessalon or Philippians and that is for the people who lived in Philippi.
00:05:49
Speaker
and that is for the people who lived in philippi But first, let's continue with the book of Ephesians in chapter 6. And guess what? This is a lot of people's favorite chapter in Ephesians.
00:06:02
Speaker
And that's because it deals with putting on the armor of God. Yesterday, we touched a little bit on that because we talked about and keeping our thoughts clean.
00:06:14
Speaker
We have to protect our mind. And earlier this year, we've also spoken about the fact that we have to protect our eyes and our ears because these things affect what goes into our mind. So we need to be mindful about what we watch, about what we spend time seeing, about what we spend time hearing, as well as what we spend time thinking about, because all of these things can affect us and they can lead us into sinful behaviors. They can lead us into behaviors that were part of our old self and they can be detrimental to helping us grow.
00:06:52
Speaker
And since our goal is to keep growing, those things are things that we want to be mindful of so that we don't allow them to it hinder our growth.
00:07:04
Speaker
So we're going to be talking about and reading about today the armor of God, which is a great way to protect us from sinful behavior and from Satan himself and from a lot of things.
00:07:19
Speaker
So let's read about that today, shall we? We are continuing on with the thought of godly

Parent-Child Relationships

00:07:27
Speaker
but relationships, godly relationships. We spoke yesterday about the relationship between a wife and husband, a husband and wife, and we spoke about, oh, just those two, husbands and wives. And today we're going to speak about relationships between parents and children, as well as servants and masters.
00:07:51
Speaker
Now, we've spoken recently about the relationship between servant and master, and we can replace that word master with boss or authority figure because we all have authority figures in our lives. Everybody is below somebody. There's always somebody who outranks us.
00:08:11
Speaker
They are our leaders at our church. They are leaders at our workplaces. They are leaders in our government. And they are police officers. So there are always people that have authority over us whom we need to respect and obey. and Paul is going to be telling us again about that.
00:08:33
Speaker
So I wanted to keep us mindful of that. And then a servant, we can replace that with worker. or or citizen, because if they are above us, then we are below them and we are subject to their authority. And this is especially evident in places such as the military, where there are officers who are above and below other officers.
00:08:58
Speaker
But we're not necessarily always in the military, but we do always have people who are above and below us or just those who are in authority over us. If, for instance, if you go into someone else's home, they are an authority over you in their home, business in essence, because you're going to obey their rules that are in their home.
00:09:18
Speaker
And same way that if you they were in your home, then you would have authority over your home. So authority really is a shifting thing, isn't it? And that's why it's important to remember that we want to treat others well, not just because it's the right thing to do, because we need to remember that we are wanting to treat people the way we want to be treated.
00:09:44
Speaker
And there may come a time when those tables are turned and that same person who was under us is now ah above us. And so it just gives us some things to think about there.
00:09:58
Speaker
So let's go ahead and begin. Our first relationship talks about children. And it says, children, obey your mother and your father, because this is what is right in God's kingdom.
00:10:12
Speaker
God's rules say to treat your father and mother like they are important. And you know what's really interesting? Is that this is the first command that comes with a promise.
00:10:23
Speaker
There are not ah other commands that give promises. It says that things will go well for you if you obey your mother and your father in the Lord. It says that you will enjoy a long life here on earth.
00:10:38
Speaker
And so that's very unique. It also says to fathers, don't make your children angry. As they grow, teach them how to live as God's people.
00:10:54
Speaker
And if you are a servant, obey your master. Care about him. Follow him with a true heart like you would obey Jesus.
00:11:06
Speaker
And don't obey your master only when he is looking. Don't obey him just so he will like you. obey him all and Obey him the way that you obey Jesus.
00:11:17
Speaker
And serve. Serve with all your heart. If you are a master, then treat your servant kindly. Don't say that you will treat him badly if he doesn't obey.
00:11:32
Speaker
We call those threats. Our big Bible says not to threaten. paul says not to Paul says to do away with threats. You know that God is your master and he is your servant's master too.
00:11:49
Speaker
And God does not love one person any better than another.
00:11:54
Speaker
Be strong in God. Be strong in his great power. It's like putting on God's heavy metal armor. And then you can stand up to Satan's plans.
00:12:10
Speaker
We do not fight people. We fight rulers, kings, and powers of the dark world. We fight bad, sinful spirits in places around the heavens.
00:12:24
Speaker
So put on God's whole armor. Days filled with sin may come, but you will be able to keep your place in God's kingdom. And after you do everything you can, you will still be standing.
00:12:41
Speaker
So stand firm and make truth like a belt around you. Being right with God will cover your chest to keep it safe.
00:12:52
Speaker
The good news of peace makes your feet ready. Hold faith like a shield in front of you and your faith will put out arrows of fire that the enemy shoots at you.
00:13:07
Speaker
Jesus saved you, and that is like a helmet for your head. And your sword will be the Spirit's sword, God's word.
00:13:19
Speaker
Pray with the Spirit's help anytime, and pray with all kinds of prayers. Ask for all kinds of things. Remember this and watch.
00:13:34
Speaker
Always keep praying for all of God's people. And pray for me too. Pray that when I talk, God will tell me what to say.
00:13:45
Speaker
and that way I will talk without being afraid. And then I will tell about the mystery of God's good news. And it's because of this news that I am in jail right now.
00:13:59
Speaker
Tychicus is a servant in God's kingdom, and he keeps his promises. He will tell you everything that is happening here, and then you will know what I am doing, and you will know how I am, and you will feel better.
00:14:14
Speaker
And that's why I'm sending him to visit you. So tell everyone that I pray that they are living in peace, and I pray that their love will never die.
00:14:27
Speaker
From Paul.
00:14:31
Speaker
I love that. That's the end of our reading for Ephesians. Now we're going to begin the first letter to the Philippians, chapter 1. From Rome, Paul also wrote to Jesus' followers in Philippi.
00:14:45
Speaker
To God's people at Philippi, I pray for God's kind love and peace to be with you. I thank God whenever I remember you.
00:14:56
Speaker
And I always pray with joy when I pray for you. And that's because you are my friends. You welcomed the good news the very first day I met you.
00:15:09
Speaker
And you still believe it. And you help tell me you help me tell others about it Now God began doing good work in you. And I know he will finish what he started.
00:15:22
Speaker
He will work in you until the day that Jesus comes again. And it's right for me to feel this way about you because you are in my heart.
00:15:34
Speaker
And I may be in jail. i may be standing up for the good news. And I may be speaking God's word. But whatever I am doing, you are enjoying God's kind love along with me.
00:15:50
Speaker
God knows just how much I want to be with you. And I love you with Jesus' love.
00:15:59
Speaker
here is what I pray. I pray that your love will grow. and I pray that you will know and understand more and more.
00:16:12
Speaker
And then you will be able to choose what is best. Your hearts will be clean from sin. and you will be without sin until Jesus comes again.
00:16:23
Speaker
You will be full of good things. Good things come from being right with God. being right with him comes from Jesus. It comes through Jesus.
00:16:35
Speaker
It brings praise to God and shows God's greatness. Now I want you to know something. I am in jail. But this helps people to hear the good news.
00:16:49
Speaker
All the guards know that I am in jail for Jesus and everyone else knows that too. And most of God's people are brave now because I am in jail.
00:17:01
Speaker
And they are not afraid to speak God's word. But there are some people who want to be important. And so they teach about Jesus just to be important.
00:17:12
Speaker
Other people teach because of their good hearts. And they speak in love. And they know why I am here in jail. The people who want to be important, they teach just to get what they want.
00:17:26
Speaker
And they think that they can make trouble for me. But it doesn't matter. The important thing is that they are teaching about Jesus. And they may have good reasons or they may have bad reasons.
00:17:38
Speaker
But at least they speak about Jesus. And I am glad about that.
00:17:44
Speaker
So yes, I will keep on showing my joy. I know that you are praying for me. And Jesus' spirit helps me.
00:17:55
Speaker
So what has happened to me will turn out for good. and I will be saved. And I hope that I will be brave enough to make Jesus look great.
00:18:08
Speaker
And I hope I can always show his greatness now and always. I may go on living and that means that good things will come from my work.
00:18:21
Speaker
And now should I choose to live or die I don't know. I want both. I want to leave and be with Jesus because that's the best thing for me.
00:18:35
Speaker
But it is better for you if I live. Whatever happens, just live the way that you should. and then I will know that you are going to keep telling others about the good news.
00:18:49
Speaker
And you will work together as if you were one person. And you won't be afraid of anyone who works against you. And this will show them that they won't be saved, but you will be.
00:19:05
Speaker
And that is the end of our reading for today.
00:19:11
Speaker
I really enjoyed reading the letters from Paul. I'm going to be so sad when all of his letters are finished because Paul is one of my favorite people to read from.
00:19:22
Speaker
he His letters are so in depth and I love his spirit of unity. Even with the Philippians, wherever he writes, he always writes about unity.
00:19:32
Speaker
And I absolutely love that he said that whatever happens, live the way you should. And then I will know that you're going to keep telling others the good news.
00:19:44
Speaker
And you will work together as if you were one person. You won't be afraid of anyone who works against you. And this will show them that they won't be saved, but you will be.
00:19:58
Speaker
I love working together as one. I love that unity in God's body. God made me really have a heart for that, I'll tell you what. ah Well, let's also talk about the fact that God, Paul reminds us today that God has begun doing a good work in you.
00:20:21
Speaker
I don't want to forget about that. I don't want to gloss over that today. And he will work in you until the j day Jesus comes again. he will finish what he started.
00:20:33
Speaker
The good work that God has begun in you, he will finish. And it takes us our whole lives. But that's why we're always growing. We never stop spiritually growing.
00:20:45
Speaker
We talked about that yesterday. We are meant to keep on growing.
00:20:53
Speaker
So let's look at the armor of God, shall we? Did you know that some of the armor of God that Paul has quoted is actually from the old covenant and it is describing Jesus?

Spiritual Battle and God's Armor

00:21:10
Speaker
Did you know that? so let's look at this here in Ephesians chapter six. And the armor of God starts in chapter 6, verse 10.
00:21:25
Speaker
I'm going to also give us the the big Bible version. It says, "...be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you are able to stand against the schemes of the devil." So when we are putting on the armor of God, the purpose of that is to be strong against the schemes of the devil.
00:21:50
Speaker
Because Paul is letting us know here that while it may look like we are fighting against other people and their sinfulness, sinfulness What we are really truly fighting against is spiritual powers. This is a spiritual battle that we are waging every single day. And that is why God has given us spiritual gifts. We have gifts from the spirit because this is a spiritual battle.
00:22:23
Speaker
So when we become stronger as as one unified church, as one unified body, remember we talked yesterday about the fact that when we use our gifts, we not only grow individually, but we grow as a whole, as the whole body of God.
00:22:41
Speaker
And so when we put on this armor of God, it helps us to stand to be able to stand against the schemes, the plans of the devil. Because our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, and against the worldly forces of this darkness.
00:23:03
Speaker
It's darkness, remember. We are children of the light. And he is the prince of darkness. And against the spiritual forces of wickedness that are in the heavenly places.
00:23:19
Speaker
Because of this, take up the full armor of God so that you may be able to resist when the times are evil and after you have done everything to stand firm.
00:23:33
Speaker
Stand firm then and buckle the belt of truth around your waist and put on the breastplate of righteousness. Now remember, God is spirit and he must be worshipped in spirit and in truth.
00:23:48
Speaker
And Jesus tells us that the truth shall set us free. Truth is a very powerful weapon. It holds around us. It's a belt.
00:24:00
Speaker
He compares it to a belt. And he says to put on the breastplate of righteousness. So let's look at that. That is actually a reference to Isaiah chapter 11, verse 5.
00:24:16
Speaker
And that is that whole chapter 11 Isaiah prophesying about Jesus. That section from Isaiah chapter 11 is called the branch from David. That's the description that my Bible gives it.
00:24:32
Speaker
and it talks about how a shoot will come forth out of the stem of jesse and a branch will bear fruit out of his roots and the spirit of the lord will rest on him the spirit of wisdom and insight the spirit of counsel and might the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the lord and his delight will be in the fear of the Lord.
00:24:57
Speaker
He will not judge by what his eyes see, nor decide by what his ears hear, but with righteousness he will judge the poor and decide with fairness for the poor of the land.
00:25:12
Speaker
He will strike the land with the rod of his mouth. And with the breath of his lips, he will slay the wicked. Here we go is our verse today.
00:25:23
Speaker
Also, righteousness will be the belt around his loins and faithfulness, the belt around his waist. So when Paul is telling us to put on those belts of truth and of faith, we are meant to be like Jesus, remember?
00:25:45
Speaker
And Jesus himself had these, had the, ah let's see here, the belt of truth.
00:25:56
Speaker
Righteousness will be the belt around his loins and faithfulness, the belt around his waist. So we will have the same armor that Jesus had. We are strong in him.
00:26:09
Speaker
We are clothed with the same armor, the same descriptions that Jesus is. because we are one in him.
00:26:20
Speaker
Paul says to strap up your feet in readiness with the good news of Shalom. And Jesus tells us that blessed are the feet. I think it was Jesus. I could be wrong on that one. Blessed are the feet that carry good news.
00:26:38
Speaker
So that our feet are to be ready with the good news of Shalom. That means we are taking this good news of Shalom with us wherever we go, into work, into our shopping experiences during the day.
00:26:52
Speaker
it could be at school. Wherever it is we go in our day, God will put people in our path and our feet will take us there.
00:27:03
Speaker
Paul says, above all, take up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
00:27:16
Speaker
Let's look at that.
00:27:23
Speaker
and that's another description with the ah the belt of righteousness that Jesus has. Faithfulness. Faith is very important. It is impossible to please God without faith.
00:27:37
Speaker
It is faith that when the we are counted as righteous, when we have faith in God. It is faith in Him and belief. Faith means trust. When we have trust in God,
00:27:53
Speaker
then we are believing that what he says he will do, he will do. And so we are to have faith in God first. And Jesus tells us, for instance, that when we pray, to pray as though God has already answered our prayers.
00:28:10
Speaker
We are not to pray with with trepidation, with fear, but with boldness, asking for everything. And as Paul tells us today, to ask for all kinds of things.
00:28:21
Speaker
And Jesus tells us to pray in his name. So if we just say the words without faith, Faith without works is is nothing.
00:28:32
Speaker
So we we have that faith in God. That is us putting our um our action into into work.
00:28:43
Speaker
We are putting our faith into action. And so that we can actually live out this faith that we say that we have. When we have faith in God, we trust in him.
00:28:55
Speaker
And God wants us to trust in him. It's very important. because he is trustworthy.
00:29:04
Speaker
And that is like our shield. It will protect us because the battle belongs to the Lord.
00:29:13
Speaker
Paul tells us to take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. The helmet of salvation.
00:29:24
Speaker
Jesus covers us in his blood. The helmet protects the head. we That is protecting us from anybody telling us that we have to earn our salvation.
00:29:37
Speaker
The helmet would even come down with little flaps over the ears and it would protect the whole head because remember, that's our mind. That's our thinking. And so we we can't let things come into our head and let the evil one tell us, oh, you are not saved. Oh, you have committed sins for which God cannot forgive you.
00:29:59
Speaker
Those are lies. So we have to put on that helmet of salvation, knowing, standing firm in our faith, that we trust in God and that shield will protect us and art that helmet of salvation will protect us. So that when people try to tell us that we are not saved or that we need to do something else, we need to follow some human rule,
00:30:24
Speaker
we can be protected from that and and not believe that the lie, but to instead believe the truth and know that we are saved because we have faith in Jesus and in God, that Jesus paid for our sins and gave us our salvation.
00:30:46
Speaker
The sword of the Spirit is the word of God. It cuts through. It gives us truth. And the truth, as we mentioned a few moments ago, sets us free.
00:31:02
Speaker
And if the Son has set us free, we are free indeed. Amen. That sort of truth describes Jesus as well.
00:31:15
Speaker
Let's see.
00:31:18
Speaker
Oops, where did it go here? We read about that. It says that he will strike the land with the rod of his mouth and with the breath of his lips, he will slay the wicked.
00:31:36
Speaker
Jesus is the word. He is with God and he was God. He has been with us since the beginning, and he will never leave us.
00:31:47
Speaker
And the word of God is useful for all teaching and correction and for training us up in every good work that we are called to do, that God has set up for us to do before we were even born.
00:32:03
Speaker
And we read about that yesterday.
00:32:08
Speaker
And that is the armor of God. Isn't that wonderful? i was trying to see, I got to get back to my page here.
00:32:23
Speaker
Yes, that is everything. And then we are to pray in the spirit on every occasion with all kinds of prayers and requests. And with this in mind, keep alert with perseverance and supplication.
