Today we will complete Paul's letter to the Colossians with Chapters 3 and 4.
In our reading today Paul will describe for us what being loving toward others does and does not look like.
In our discussion for daily application we will talk about the need for knowing what love does and does not look like so that we are able to spot lies and fake religion that tries to take us away from our true faith in Jesus. Knowing what loving behavior does and does not look like will also help us understand that there is a difference between rules and the description of what loving behavior is and isn't. Rules are "Don't do this. Don't do that" with consequences for not following those rules. Following God and Jesus can LOOK like we are trying to follow a lot of rules when really we are learning about right and wrong behavior- what being loving does and does not look like- so that we can base our choices for our behaviors on whether or not the behavior we are questioning falls into the category of loving someone or not loving someone. We are to imitate God, who IS LOVE and ALWAYS acts with love. Jesus, as we have learned, affirmed that all of the "law" can be summed up in loving God with all of our heart, mind, and soul, and then also to love one another. Paul's letter to the Colossians is full of excellent examples of how to put away the old behaviors and adopt new behaviors of love.
