Introduction to Unlocking Podcast

00:00:00
Speaker
Welcome to another episode of Unlocking with Adam Pike and my mission on this podcast is to help you unlock potential in your life that you didn't think was possible. Good morning guys.

Reflection on Past Morning Routines

00:00:13
Speaker
I am going to run through my morning routine. Now everybody's morning routine looks a lot different and trust me, my morning did not look like this two months ago. My morning used to be
00:00:29
Speaker
And alarm going up, I would grab my lunch, like just rushing out the door. Like I would wake up probably. I'd say 10 minutes before I had to leave, like maybe not even 10 minutes, like five minutes, enough time to just get up, brush my teeth, grab my food and rush out the door and go to work.
00:00:55
Speaker
I never gave myself enough time to like actually get up and wake up because I was just, I never had enough time in the day and I was always going to bed so late. And it's so wild. Like I was talking to my friend last name and we were, I was telling him like, dude, like I am way less tired than what it used to be. And I was doing that life for so long and it was just,
00:01:21
Speaker
It was just normal for me to be tired all the time. Like I thought that was just normal, right? I was like, Oh, I'm just, I'm just training a lot. I'm just working on like, yeah, it's like, um, this is why I'm tired, right? That's insane to think about right now.

New Morning Routine and Health Practices

00:01:38
Speaker
Cause I'm actually getting like eight hours of sleep every single night. And yeah, now like it's been two months and I'm
00:01:49
Speaker
I'm never tired throughout the day. I'm very consistent. I don't have these moments where I'm just crashing. I used to sit down anytime I sat down before for two seconds.
00:02:08
Speaker
with my training. I find that I'm actually putting on more muscle. I'm getting stronger in the gym and that's because I'm getting proper sleep. Like I'm not sleep deprived. I'm not overworking. I was on the move like 24 seven before. So my life is definitely a little bit more relaxed now.
00:02:31
Speaker
So anyways, let's just jump into my morning routine. So first things first, um, something that I've been doing recently is taking the ginger lemon turmeric shots. Now I've been seeing this.
00:02:45
Speaker
So, something that I've been doing recently is putting it to the test. Not just believing people and just doing it for the sake of doing it. I actually want to put it to the test and see if it does anything to me. And one thing that I do notice is it wakes me up.
00:03:05
Speaker
Whoa. It just gives me like a boost of energy. And I actually stopped taking coffee in the morning. And I like I'm doing the tumor ginger lemon shots instead. Now, I have found with coffee, the reason why I stopped taking coffee first thing in the morning is I will actually seen another video on social media talking about how
00:03:46
Speaker
So I was like, all right, I'll put this to the test. So I used to be a guy that would wake up and first thing we think about, okay, coffee or energy drink. So something got to wake me up, right? And I believe that we just tell ourselves this. Like we don't actually need, you're like, you don't need a coffee as soon as you wake up. Like there's many other ways to wake up and get energy.
00:04:12
Speaker
like this ginger lemon to workshop, you know what I mean? So yeah, like the video I was watching, it was saying to wait probably about 90 minutes or like two hours after you wake up to have your coffee. So that's what I've been doing.
00:04:28
Speaker
I've been taking that tumor shot in the morning. It's some of the benefits too. Like it gives you that extra boost without the coffee. It's loaded in vitamin C. It's great for your stomach health. There's a lot of benefits. It's worth your while to actually just research this and see the list of benefits. So yeah, I've been doing it for the last two weeks. I like it. And I'm probably going to continue doing it.

Exploration of Microdosing Practices

00:04:53
Speaker
Second thing I do is take my microcybin with some water.
00:04:58
Speaker
Now, I want to dive into this a little bit because this is actually another thing that I started doing recently is being more aware of what microcybin is actually doing. Because I'm sure there's a lot of people that do this as well, but I used to just take my micro dose in the morning and just go on with my day, like go to the gym, go do this, like you're just doing a bunch of
00:05:27
Speaker
Like you can feel that there's something happening in your body, but you're not really paying attention to what's actually going on with, in your body. You're just, people just want to take a pill and feel good. Right. So they take microcybin. Oh, I feel good. And you go on about your day and that's it. So, so what I've been doing recently, there's like, there's like a window of opportunity. And when you take the microcybin, right? And you start to feel that come into your body. There's this window.
00:05:58
Speaker
Now, I've been learning from one of the guys that works with microcybin. He's kind of been guiding me the way on how to microdose properly and get the full benefits out of it. And trust me, guys, I don't know everything about microdosing. I will be completely honest with you, but I'm learning. I'm learning as I go. I'm learning from the
00:06:25
Speaker
a lot of knowledge so everything that I'm saying right now I'm just taking from this guy that I've been learning from so this is this is what I've been doing as recently in that window of opportunity when you're the medicine you can kind of feel it coming in and doing its work I will go outside and get some sun on my face and just kind of sit there and
00:06:48
Speaker
and just enjoy the moment.

Incorporating Breathwork and Journaling

00:06:51
Speaker
And then I will start to just do some like light breath work. Now I've actually been using this app called Othership. It's a lot different than most of your like meditation breath work apps.
00:07:08
Speaker
It's like I used to use the Calm app and Headspace. I don't know if you guys have used this before but I find with other ship it's more like you're it's really focusing on like your breath, like your breathwork. I never used to do it before. When I used to try to meditate, it was just more like
00:07:31
Speaker
And that was it, right? But with this other ship, they have all these cool ways to do the breath work, right? And it's just like, you do that for a bit, like you breathe in for four, out for four, they'll get you to hold your breath. It's very interesting. So what I've been doing is in that window of opportunity, I go outside into the sun, get that natural vitamin D, do my breath work and really focus
00:08:01
Speaker
microcybin and really put all my energy on what is happening. I find when I do this and I do the breath work, I do the micro dosing, it really really calms my mind. It really calms my mind. It almost puts me into an even plain feel of my thoughts for the day.
00:08:28
Speaker
when that happens and again I start getting very calm very I start I start thinking about like what I'm grateful for and I start thinking like what I want in my life and who am I as a person and you know what I mean and it really like sets my day right like that right there it really just sets my day you know in a positive
00:08:54
Speaker
good energy, you know what I mean? That's what I love. So yeah, I try to spend at least 20 minutes outside with the sun on my face and I know winter is coming and it's going to be getting very, very cold here in Canada.
00:09:11
Speaker
So if this is the case, there's actually, I've actually considered going out and buying one of those sunlight lamps. I've been seeing those a lot. I don't know if it actually works or not, but I mean, it's probably
00:09:30
Speaker
sunlight on your face so I might look into getting that as well so yeah so after I do my breath work you know I meet the medicine well we like to say that we meet the medicine halfway so like when you're doing that breath work and you're focusing on what the medicine is almost like you're meeting the micro dose halfway so after that I will go and I'll journal I really do love journaling
00:09:55
Speaker
I tell everybody that they should journal. Um, some people it's, it's not for everybody, but like once you start to get into it and you know, there's times where I'm sitting here, like I was looking back through the start of this book that I'm actually looking at right now. Um, and it's just really wild to see where you are in certain points of your life and like reading about,
00:10:23
Speaker
going through.

Commitment to Fitness and Lifestyle Changes

00:10:25
Speaker
I journal every single day. I'm actually doing 75 hard too, so I like to
00:10:35
Speaker
For those of you who don't know what 75 hard is, it's a fitness challenge. It's something that I've done before, but I never really follow the rules correctly. Um, there's actually a podcast you can listen to. Um, I think it's, what is that podcast called? Real, real, real AF or something like that. Um, anyways, the, the, the 75 hard challenge. These are the rules. You have to drink a gallon of water every single day.
00:11:04
Speaker
you have to do two 45 minute workouts a day and they have to be separated. They can't be back to back. And one of those workouts has to be outside and it doesn't matter if it's raining, snowing, if there's lightning out there, you got to go do that workout at some point in turn a day outside. You got to read 10 pages a day of a book, like a motivational book, not some like non-fictional book,
00:11:34
Speaker
like going to help you evolve in your life. And you have to take a progress picture every single day. So this is something that I've also been doing as of recently. I think I'm on day 15 right now.
00:11:52
Speaker
Oh, another, another big thing too is you cannot drink alcohol. That's right. No alcohol, not even a sip. I actually, when I done this challenge before, I know I never followed the rules correctly. I still did all the workouts, but I wasn't doing my workouts outside. So technically if you break the rules in this challenge, you have to start over, right? So last time I'd done the challenge, I never,
00:12:18
Speaker
I wasn't microdosing, so I was kind of thinking about it. I was like, you know what, man? I'm kind of sick of alcohol. I had like one night, maybe, I don't know, a month ago. And I'll be honest with you guys, the next day was terrible, terrible. I woke up and I had anxiety through the roof. I was feeling so bad and like,
00:12:47
Speaker
I was so drunk that night like I there's parts of the night I don't even remember and I had people like telling me things and I was like man this
00:13:00
Speaker
Like why why do I want to do this? Like no, I want better things for my life I don't want to be going out every single weekend Getting fucked up and not remembering half of the things that are going on and that's what I used to do Like I was I was definitely okay with that and there's nothing wrong with doing that because a lot of people enjoy that that life But what I'm going through in my life right now that is unacceptable
00:13:30
Speaker
for Adam. I want to be on a steady incline of growth. I really want to be successful. Ever since I left my last job, I really want to work as hard as I possibly can to keep this lifestyle that I'm currently doing going.
00:13:52
Speaker
and I feel like when I have those things of drinking, it sends me backwards. It puts me back. It just holds me back and I don't want to be held back. Does that make sense? So yeah, I started doing the microdosing. I started doing the 75 hard with the microdosing because I figured if I can do this now,
00:14:21
Speaker
a lot better and I'm also working at home now so I'm getting proper sleep I have a lot more time to do the workouts compared to last time I was you know working 15
00:14:38
Speaker
to work out and and like reading at work it was it was just it was a lot I don't know how I don't know how in the fuck I managed to do that but I did it and I actually kept going I finished a 75 hard last
00:15:08
Speaker
And I was also really freaking shredded. Like when I cut out alcohol altogether and I was like just drinking water and like you're supposed to follow the diet. So I was like really not having any junk food, any sugar, any of that bullshit. Like I was fucking shredded. Um, so yeah, I'm doing that right now. So yes. Um, let's get back to where we journaling, journaling. Yeah.
00:15:34
Speaker
Um, so yeah, I journal what I do. I just write about how I'm feeling. Um, I write down probably like three goals that I want, like, like short term goals. And then I just write down a bunch of things and I'm grateful for it. Um, and I do that every single day and I love it.
00:15:51
Speaker
Um, so after that, like if I got any work to do, um, well, I'm doing a podcast right now, um, everything, I just listed all those, all those, uh, five things like the tumor shot, the micro side and go suicide, do some breath work, breath work, do some journaling. I just did all that before I started this podcast. Right. So now, now I'm here for a couple hours, just doing whatever I need to do for the day. And then after that, that's what I'm going to have my coffee.
00:16:21
Speaker
And another thing that I've been doing as of recently is putting coconut oil in my coffee. Now you're probably thinking, why the fuck are you putting coconut oil in your coffee?
00:16:33
Speaker
There's a ton of health benefits for this and a big thing that will stand out for most people is weight loss. It helps with weight loss. It promotes a good digestive system, improves your brain function.

Nutritional Adjustments and Benefits

00:16:48
Speaker
It's worth your while to go do your research on coconut oil in coffee and that's another thing too guys.
00:16:58
Speaker
A lot of people will just listen to somebody else say something, and then they'll just go do it without even knowing anything about that. I used to do that with Jim's supplements, right? Someone would be like, oh, this is deadly. And I'm like, all right, let's go try it.
00:17:16
Speaker
Didn't know nothing about it. Didn't know any of the ingredients that was in it. I would just take it and just say, fuck it. Right? So yeah, like if, if, if you think I'm crazy about this coconut oil in my, in your coffee, just, just do some research. There's like a big list of health benefits, right? And I mean, there's, there's, there's health benefits and a lot of things that I don't do, but these are just the things that I do in my morning routine.
00:17:46
Speaker
Okay. So after the coffee, um, around 12 PM, that's when I'm going to have my first meal of the day. So, um, another thing I've been doing recently is intermittent fasting. So I will have my last meal of the day at 8 PM, right? And from 8 PM until 12, I'll only will have, um, like water and coffee and that ginger lemon tumor shot.
00:18:15
Speaker
Now I find with fasting is it helps a lot with the microdosing.
00:18:24
Speaker
If you were to wake up and just eat a ton of food for breakfast, you're introducing a lot of all these foods that's going to do certain things to your body. And then if you try to microdose on top of that, it can be confusing. So when you're fasting and you take the microdose, that's the only thing now that's
00:18:55
Speaker
that's in your body and you're fasting for you know you wake up around six o'clock so for six hours you take that micro dosing and you're just very focused you're very locked in right you know what I mean
00:19:09
Speaker
And even if you fast without the microdosing, you have a more clear mind. A big thing for me is I'm less hungry. Before I used to do intermittent fasting, I used to wake up starving.
00:19:29
Speaker
i mean like that hunger pain in your stomach and then you would eat in the morning and then around nine o'clock you're freaking starving again you're just starving all day long and before i actually realized that i was eating
00:19:46
Speaker
way too much food than my body actually needed. Um, I'll go back to when I was working my last job. Uh, I mean, I would eat from the second I wake up to the second I go to bed and I had like three breaks out there. So I was eating a meal every single break I was eating before I left, uh, before I left work. Um, then I would go to the gym, then we'll come home, have a shake, maybe eat something again. I was just eating way too much food and I was thinking like,
00:20:18
Speaker
got to eat all this to keep the body going. But like, in result, it was literally doing nothing. And now that I'm doing intermittent fasting, I only eat twice a day. I'll eat at 12. But like that meal is
00:20:37
Speaker
Um, I would eat at 12 and then, uh, go on about my day, go to the gym, do whatever I got to do. And then probably around like supper time, six o'clock, seven 30, I'll have another big meal. And if, if there is time, um, after I eat my last meal, um, like if, like if just say I eat at six o'clock and I can eat till eight, like maybe I'll have like a snack or something after that too. But I find that I'm just eating a lot less.
00:21:10
Speaker
the groceries I used to be going to Costco no word of a lie spending about three to four hundred dollars every two weeks just boat like buying so much food and I was eating it myself like I was nobody you can help him be eat it is actually
00:21:31
Speaker
the girlfriend's here with me and whatnot and We probably spend like two three hundred dollars At Costco and that died like it feels like that last like a month. It's it's it's well. So yeah Yeah, when I have that first meal, I'll also take my vitamins Some of the vitamins that I take is vitamin D fish oils magnesium calcium zinc What else do I take?
00:22:01
Speaker
vitamin C, I think I said that. You want vitamin D here in Newfoundland just because, well, this year has been pretty good for sun, but I mean, most of the time it's foggy. There's not much sun. So like you want to be getting that, your vitamin D in. Your fish oils is super good for your brain health. Zinc and vitamin C is good for like your immune system.
00:22:27
Speaker
You want to be taking your vitamins. And another thing that I want to mention is I actually used to take my vitamins on an empty stomach, which is fucking terrible. I actually remember times where I would wake up and I'm like heading to work. I would take a handful of vitamins, head out the door, and I'd be almost throwing up in my mouth on the way to work. So guys,
00:22:55
Speaker
take your vitamins with some food. It'll help for sure. So anyways, that is my morning routine.

Summary of Morning Routine Enhancements

00:23:06
Speaker
That's it. I'll run through everything quickly. Okay, first thing, ginger lemon turmeric shot, okay? Second, take microcybin with some water. Third, go outside, get some sun on the face. Four, do some breath work. Focus on like meeting the medicine halfway like we talked about. Five, journal. Six, do whatever work you gotta do for the day. Seven, black coffee with coconut oil.
00:23:34
Speaker
And number eight would be your first meal of the day with the intermittent fasting and whatnot. And then the ninth thing would be just go kill your day. So what I would do for the rest of my day would be the 75 hour fitness challenge.
00:23:58
Speaker
Basically, I would probably just go for like a trail run, right? I could go outside, put the weighted vest on, do a trail run, come home. I would do some reading. And then later on in the day, probably go to the gym. And I actually do stretch a lot as well. That's something that I really wanted to
00:24:19
Speaker
Incorporate in my life now that I have more time because my body is so Frickin stiff and so like I'm not flexible at all so like I really am like trying to open up my hips and That's just from years. This is from me being young and dumb Just I'll be honest trying to lift as heavy as I possibly can and never ever stretch
00:24:47
Speaker
As I'm getting older, I find that I need to do some stretching. I need to do some maintenance on my body. So I've actually joined up at Bodhi here in St. John's, the hot yoga. And I've been doing the, what is it called, the Bodhi? I think it's just called Bodhi, maybe? I'm not sure. But it's like the hottest.
00:25:18
Speaker
