Today's reading will cover Jeremiah Chapters 23:25-32, 27:1-6 9-11, 28, 29:1-7, 10-13, 24-32, 50:11-12, 31-32 and 51:59-64. Today we will read about the battle of the prophets as we read about messages from God to Jeremiah and false messages from false prophets. As we have read this year, God does not take it lightly when His people are led astray and today is no different. We will read about consequences for the false prophets delivering false messages to God's people, intentionally leading them astray from God. In our discussion for daily application we will read the entire chapter of Matthew 24, where Jesus will advise us about wars, rumors of wars, and false prophets. We will talk about the fact that God knows the plans He has for us: plans for hope, and a good future for us. He alone appoints leaders to be in charge of nations and He alone will cause these things to occur at their appointed times. Our responsibility is to continue to do the good works that God has prepared in advance for us to do and to be found doing them at the time Jesus returns. We are not to be anxious about world events but be mindful of the signs He has told us to watch for in His Word. We are to trust in the fact that God is in control and He looks out for His chosen people, even during the great trouble of the end times of God's judgment, which will be cut short for the sake of God's chosen people. At a time that only God knows, He will call us up to Him. We are not to chase after false reports of Jesus' return or be led astray by false prophets. We are to seek and love God with all of our hearts and love others, persevering to the end, even though the love of most will grow cold. God knows the plans He has for us- plans for hope, and a good future. God is still in control today, as He was in Jeremiah's time. and everything will happen according to His will at His appointed times.

Introduction and Gratitude

Speaker
Welcome everybody. Today is June 24th and you are here with Robin at In The Family Way Coaching and we're here for our daily Bible reading through the Day by Day Kids Bible written by Karen Henley.
00:00:17
Speaker
I am so glad you're here whether you're following along on that podcast or whether you're here watching the video. Thank you for finding this event. And if you are following along on the Commitment Calendar, go ahead and take that out in your sticker or however you are marking it off because you're about to hear the Bible today.

True vs. False Prophets

00:00:36
Speaker
We are going to be reading in the book of Jeremiah today and we're going to be reading about the Battle of the Prophets. We have Jeremiah in one corner who is bringing true messages from God.
00:00:48
Speaker
And in the other three corners, we have false prophets who are bringing false messages about things that God is supposedly saying. And we're going to be seeing what happens to these prophets when they send false messages.
00:01:04
Speaker
Because if you've been following along for a little while this year, then you know that God does not take it lightly when we lead his people astray. And these prophets who are false, who are not really bringing messages from God, have been leading God's people astray.
00:01:20
Speaker
They have been telling the people that they are not going to be taken over by Babylon. And so Jeremiah has been sending messages from God saying that, yes, I am coming.
00:01:31
Speaker
I will be having Babylon take you away. And now they are gone in Babylon. And now the false prophets are sending false messages about the fact that, oh, this isn't going to last very long. So don't worry. Everything is great.
00:01:46
Speaker
And Jeremiah, through from God, will be sending messages saying, this is not true.

God's Message to the Exiled

00:01:52
Speaker
So let's get into it. We're going to be reading about the battle of the prophets today.
00:01:57
Speaker
And then we will be seeing from Matthew chapter 24 that Jesus will be telling us the exact same thing will be happening in the end times. So here we go.
00:02:11
Speaker
Today's reading in Jeremiah covers chapters 23, 27, 28, 29, 40, 50, and 51. I'll tell what, I busy reading twenty eight twenty nine forty fifty and fifty one ah tell you what i was busy reading today
00:02:29
Speaker
I try to be sure and read ah the full chapter to make sure that there are no little details that will help us understand the big picture. So here we go in our first section. It is entitled, A Letter to Babylon.
00:02:46
Speaker
Jeremiah sent a letter to God's people in Babylon. And in the letter were God's words. ay the Lord your God, want you to build houses.
00:02:57
Speaker
Move in. Plant gardens. Eat the food you grow. Get married. Have children. Let your children have children.
00:03:10
Speaker
Then there will be more and more people. Help the city you live in. Make peace. Pray for your city. Then things will go well there.
00:03:22
Speaker
And that means things will go well for you too. I will come back for you in 70 years. I will take you back to Judah and I will keep my promise to bring you home.
00:03:35
Speaker
I know the plans I made for you, says God. I plan to bring good things to you, says God. I plan to give you hope.
00:03:46
Speaker
I plan good things for the days that are coming. Then you will pray to me and I will listen to you. You will look for me. You will find me when you look for me with all your heart.
00:04:03
Speaker
Now a man who was not a real prophet wrote some letters and he sent them to the priests in Jerusalem. He wrote, "'Crazy men acting like prophets should be stopped.
00:04:14
Speaker
"'So why didn't you stop Jeremiah?' Jeremiah sent a letter to us in Babylon and he said we'd be here a long time." He told us to build houses and move in.
00:04:26
Speaker
He told us to plant gardens. He said to eat the food we grew.
00:04:32
Speaker
priest read the letter to Jeremiah, and then God spoke to Jeremiah. He said to send another message to his people in Babylon.
00:04:44
Speaker
The words were about the man who was not a real prophet. He lied to you. I did not send him. I will pay him back and he will not see the good things I will do for my people.
00:05:00
Speaker
Jeremiah wears a yoke. While Zedekiah was king, God spoke to Jeremiah. Make a big wooden beam to go across your shoulders.
00:05:12
Speaker
It is a yoke like the ox wears when it plows the field. Wear it around your neck, then send a message to the kings of the nations.
00:05:24
Speaker
This was God's message. I made the earth by my power. I made people and animals. I give the earth to anyone I want.
00:05:35
Speaker
And now I give your countries to Babylon. The king of Babylon will even be in charge of animals. So do not listen to the people who say this will not happen.
00:05:47
Speaker
They lie. Let Babylon rule over you. Then i will let you stay in your own land, says God.
00:05:58
Speaker
There was a prophet named Hananiah, and he told Jeremiah that this is what God says. I'll make the king of Babylon leave you alone. two years, I'll bring back everything he took.
00:06:12
Speaker
I'll bring King Jehoiakim back. I'll bring back all the other people. Then Hananiah took the yoke off of Jeremiah's neck and he broke it.
00:06:24
Speaker
He said that God told him these words. This is the way I'll break Babylon's power and I will break it in two years.
00:06:35
Speaker
Some time passed, and then God told Jeremiah to go and tell Hananiah these words. You broke a wooden yoke, so I will put an iron yoke on you.
00:06:49
Speaker
All these nations will serve Babylon. King Nebuchadnezzar will even be in charge of wild animals.
00:06:59
Speaker
So Jeremiah went to Hananiah. Jeremiah said, listen, God did not send you. You tell lies. So God says that you are going to die this year.
00:07:12
Speaker
And it's all because you turned people against God.

Divine Control and Compassion

00:07:17
Speaker
And later that same year, Hananiah died.
00:07:22
Speaker
Like a hammer. Now about the prophets. Some prophets lie. They say I sent them.
00:07:33
Speaker
Then they say, i had a dream. I had a dream. How long will they keep doing this? They think their dreams will make people forget me. But my word is like fire.
00:07:47
Speaker
It's like a hammer that breaks rock, says God. So I am against those prophets, says God. They take words from each other.
00:08:00
Speaker
They say the words are from me. I did not send them. They are not doing any good. I will pay people back for saying their words are my words, says God.
00:08:16
Speaker
A Desert Forever King Zedekiah asked one of his helpers to go with him all the way to Babylon. So Jeremiah wrote God's message to Babylon on a roll of paper.
00:08:30
Speaker
Then Jeremiah gave this message to the king's helper. And here's God's message about Babylon. Right now, the people of Babylon are glad, but someday they will feel like nothing.
00:08:44
Speaker
Babylon will be a desert. See, am against you, says God. Now it is time to pay you back. The proud one will fall.
00:08:56
Speaker
Nobody will help Babylon up.
00:09:01
Speaker
Jeremiah told the king's helper, read God's message out loud in Babylon and let the people know that God will get rid of Babylon. People won't live there.
00:09:11
Speaker
Animals won't live there. It will be a desert forever, said Jeremiah. Then tie a rock to this roll of paper, said Jeremiah, and throw it into the river and say that this is the way that Babylon will s sink.
00:09:28
Speaker
Babylon won't come up anymore. And it's because of the trouble God is bringing. Babylon will fall.
00:09:39
Speaker
That is the end of our reading today.
00:09:44
Speaker
So what do you think about that battle of the prophets today?
00:09:50
Speaker
Like we mentioned earlier, God does not take it lightly when people lead God's people astray. And in the same way, even

Parallels with Jesus's Teachings

00:09:59
Speaker
today, we have false prophets who give false information and claim things about God.
00:10:04
Speaker
And Jesus tells us that this will be the case. But let's first look at the whole big story here. In the beginning, God told the people that he wanted them to settle in and to do good.
00:10:20
Speaker
He wants them to build houses. He wants them to grow food. He wants them to enjoy the work of their hands. He wants their children to have children. He wants people to continue to get married.
00:10:32
Speaker
He wants them to increase in number. Why does God tell them this? God tells us it's because he knows the plans that he has for his people.
00:10:43
Speaker
He will come back for them and he will do so in 70 years, not in the two years that this false prophet claimed. It will be a large number of years.
00:10:55
Speaker
So it would be enough time for them to settle in and to simply and resign themselves to the fact that this is what was happening.
00:11:06
Speaker
But God also tells them how much he cares about the people. He says he knows the plans that he has made. Our God is so good. And we've spoken throughout this entire Bible reading that we see the overarching theme for our wonderful God is that he works good into everything.
00:11:28
Speaker
And he is reassuring the people once again that he knows the plans that he has made for them. He plans for them to have hope. He plans good things for the days to come.
00:11:40
Speaker
He's looking for them to pray to him because he will answer them. They will look for him. And when they do, with all their heart, God promises to be found.
00:11:53
Speaker
God is telling them that he is in charge of everything. Some people may not be worshiping God, such as those from the other countries, the nations around Israel and Judah.
00:12:05
Speaker
But even then, that does not mean that God does not make and control the entire world. God is in charge of everything. He made the world. He puts people into power and he brings them out of power in their due time that he has designed.
00:12:24
Speaker
We've talked about God's divine timing, that things happen at the appointed times that God has made. And at the appointed times, when God sees and knows that things are right, he will do what he said he would do.
00:12:39
Speaker
And here he is telling the nations around Israel and Judah that their time has come for them to be taken over by Babylon. But our great God in his love and compassion tells the people around the nations of Israel and Judah that if they simply go with Babylon and agree to be taken over by Babylon, God will let them stay in their home countries.
00:13:06
Speaker
They need to serve Babylon and then God will let them stay where they are. Our God is so compassionate and gracious. And he tells them not to listen to the people, their own supposed prophets and magic people who tell them that, no, this will not happen.
00:13:27
Speaker
God tells them it will happen. And if they simply acknowledge that it will happen, they will be able to stay in their own land. God reassures when when he tells Hananiah, all these nations will serve Babylon.
00:13:44
Speaker
King Nebuchadnezzar will even be in charge of the animals.
00:13:50
Speaker
And then we see at the end that God says, don't worry, Babylon's time is coming. And at the time that Babylon's time comes, it will be a desert.
00:14:02
Speaker
Nobody or anything will live there. And you remember the dream that God sent in Daniel to King Nebuchadnezzar? Even then, he told the king of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar, that a nation would come after him.
00:14:18
Speaker
And it would not be as strong as him, but it would still defeat him. And then further in that prophecy, we saw Jesus's kingdom coming.
00:14:29
Speaker
And that is the kingdom that will break every kingdom. So let's look at our daily application. Everything is in God's control.
00:14:40
Speaker
There are wars and there are rumors of wars. And Jesus tells us that this will be so. But everything is in God's control. And we need to remember to trust in God and endure to the end.
00:14:54
Speaker
And Jesus tells us that those who do, will pers who persevere, that they will overcome. So let's turn in our big Bible to Matthew chapter 24 and read.
00:15:09
Speaker
Because right now we have a lot of wars going on in the world, don't we? We have Israel and Iran, battles with Hamas. There is so much going on and it can be very disturbing to people.
00:15:23
Speaker
And we want to remember that God is the one who places everyone in power and at their due time, he will remove them. God might use us as his servants to do the battles, but we do not need to be afraid of outcomes because God himself is in charge of every battle.
00:15:45
Speaker
He is in charge of who comes to power and who is not the same way that we see today in the book of Jeremiah. So in chapter 24 of Matthew, Jesus was telling the disciples that the temple would be destroyed.
00:16:05
Speaker
And they wanted to know when this was going to be happening. And so it tells us that be careful in starting in verse four. Jesus answered them, be careful full that no one leads you astray.
00:16:20
Speaker
Even here in our times, we need to be mindful. Be careful that nobody leads us astray. He says, you will hear of wars and rumors of wars and see that you are not alarmed.
00:16:36
Speaker
Remember, my love, my brothers and sisters, we are not to be alarmed. For nation will rise up against nation and kingdom against kingdom.
00:16:48
Speaker
And there will be famines. That means that there will be times when there is not enough food. And there will be earthquakes in various places. But all of these things are only the beginning of birth pains.
00:17:04
Speaker
It says they will hand you over to persecution and kill you. You will be hated by all the nations because of my name. And then many will fall away and will betray one another and hate one another.
00:17:18
Speaker
That means that some believers will fall away from believing in God. And we learned about that with the seeds that God plants when we spoke about that. That's when the troubles of the world get to people and it overwhelms them and they don't have strong roots that we need to be sure of what we believe in.
00:17:39
Speaker
Because if we are not sure of what we will believe in, of what we do believe in, then we can be led astray. We can be led away from God by the worries of the world.

Encouragement and Discernment

00:17:50
Speaker
When Jesus told us not to be anxious for anything.
00:17:56
Speaker
He says that many will fall away and will even betray one another and hate one another. It says many false prophets will arise and lead many astray.
00:18:07
Speaker
This is exactly what we saw happening in in ah Jeremiah's time with the exiles going into Babylon before that happened and during their time of exile.
00:18:20
Speaker
He says, because lawlessness will multiply. So there will be lawlessness. We see more and more that that people are following their own rules, that everything is considered okay, that we have all of this acceptance and and let everybody just be allowed to do and be who however and whoever they want to be and do.
00:18:43
Speaker
And he says, but and because of this lawlessness will multiply in verse 12, the love of many will grow cold. So don't be surprised when you see that people do not love one another, which is exactly what Jesus has commanded us to do.
00:19:01
Speaker
he has commanded us to love one another, you and i in the body, and to love God. We are to continue loving. He says the one who endures to the end will be saved.
00:19:16
Speaker
Remember that we will be saved. God will take care of his chosen people. We have seen that he treats his people differently than he treats the world.
00:19:29
Speaker
This good news of the kingdom shall be proclaimed in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations. And then the end will come. And then Jesus talks about the sign of when you see the abomination of desolation, which was spoken through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place.
00:19:51
Speaker
It says, let the reader understand that you have ears to hear and eyes to see. Then those in Judea must flee to the mountains.
00:20:03
Speaker
Let's see. Let's cut down. and and We'll go ahead and read the whole thing. the one on the roof must not go down to take what is in his house and the one in the field must not turn back to get his coat woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days and pray that your escape will not happen in winter or on the sabbath for then there would be great trouble So we know to pray that when God's days come, that it not occur on a Sabbath.
00:20:34
Speaker
And notice how he is still expecting that we are to adhere to the Sabbath, that it is a day of rest.
00:20:43
Speaker
For then there will be great trouble, such as has not happened since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will. And unless those days were cut short, no one would be delivered.
00:20:57
Speaker
But remember, God always gives us encouragement. But for the sake of the chosen, those days will be cut short. Even in those end times, God will cut the days short for his chosen people.
00:21:14
Speaker
Then in verse 23, it says, if anyone says to you, look, here's the Messiah, or there he is, do not believe it. For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and show great signs and wonders so as to lead astray.
00:21:34
Speaker
Pray for discernment, brothers and sisters, that during these times, if we are here for them, for discernment that we may not be led astray by false prophets,
00:21:47
Speaker
Because it says that they will lead astray, if even possible, if possible, even the chosen. See, I have told you beforehand.
00:21:58
Speaker
God always gives us warning of what to be careful of and what will be coming. And here Jesus has done that for us. So verse 26, it says, So if they say to you, Look, he is in the wilderness.
00:22:11
Speaker
Do not go out. Or look, he is in the inner rooms. Do not believe it. For just as lightning comes from the east and flashes as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
00:22:26
Speaker
For wherever the carcass there the vultures will gather.
00:22:31
Speaker
But immediately after the trouble of those days, the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light and the stars will fall from heaven and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
00:22:44
Speaker
Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the land will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
00:22:58
Speaker
He will send out his angels with a great shofar. Remember, that is the great trumpet blast. He will send out his angels with a great blast of the shofar, and they will gather together his chosen from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
00:23:16
Speaker
I'm going to go ahead and continue reading because Jesus is very clear about how we are to be careful in the same way that God was telling the people very clearly that we are not that they were not to listen to those false prophets.
00:23:30
Speaker
Jesus tells us as well. We are not to listen to false prophets. And because I don't know how long we will have YouTube and that this message may be available, I want to be sure that this message is available to anybody in the future who God may send to hear it so that they too may be aware of its message.
00:23:52
Speaker
Watching for the Messiah's return. Verse 32. We are still in Matthew chapter 24. Now learn the parable from the fig tree. When its branches become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near.
00:24:09
Speaker
So also when you see all these things, know that it is near at the door. Amen. I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all these things happen.
00:24:22
Speaker
He was not referring to the one generation of the disciples. He was referring to the messianic generation. We are in the messianic era. He says, heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
00:24:37
Speaker
But of that day and hour, no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the son, except the father alone. For just as the days of Noah were, so will be the coming of the son of man.
00:24:52
Speaker
For in those days before the flood, they were eating and drinking and marrying and giving in marriage, right up until the day Noah entered the ark. And they did not understand until the flood came and swept them all away.
00:25:05
Speaker
So shall it be at the coming of the Son of Man. Then two men will be in the field, and one taken, and one left. Two women will be grinding at the mill, and one taken, and one left.
00:25:17
Speaker
And therefore stay alert, for you do not know what day your Lord is coming. But know this. that if the master of the house had known what time the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and not let his house be broken into.
00:25:32
Speaker
So you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. Who then is the faithful and wise servant whom the master put in charge of his household to give them food at the proper time?
00:25:47
Speaker
We have spoken about this too. Blessed is that servant whose master finds him doing so when he comes. Amen, I tell you, his master will put him in charge of all his possessions.
00:26:00
Speaker
But if that wicked servant says in his heart, my master is taking a long time, and he begins to beat his fellow servants, and he eats and drinks with drunkards, the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him, and in an hour he does not know, and he will cut him in two and assign his place with the hypocrites,
00:26:19
Speaker
where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. So while we may not be aware of exactly when this will happen, then because no one does, Jesus tells us that we are to be faithful and continue in the good works that God has set for us to do ahead of time.
00:26:35
Speaker
So we should be asking God daily, what work good have you prepared for me to- today? And we should be mindful to be faithful watching and learning learning from the Bible to see about the signs that God gives us because God tells us, and Jesus told us today, that these will be birth pains and signs of things coming.
00:26:56
Speaker
But above all, we are not to be worried about it. We are to be watchful, watchful for false prophets, not to be led astray.
00:27:07
Speaker
We are to pray for discernment so that when we hear about things, we are not led astray and we are to read God's word and be diligent to be doing what he tells us to do.
00:27:19
Speaker
But remember, God is in charge of everything and even his chosen people, he will gather at the appointed time.

Conclusion and Outreach

00:27:27
Speaker
So that's quite a big daily application we had today.
00:27:32
Speaker
everybody. And I pray that you are both put at rest and not to be anxious in anything, ah but and know that God is in charge of everything because he has knows the plans he has for us.
00:27:45
Speaker
He knows the plans he has for you plans for a hope and a future plans, not to harm us plans for him for to be sought. And that we are to seek him with all of our hearts and all of our minds and all of our soul.
00:28:00
Speaker
We are to love him with every part of ourselves and to continue loving others as Jesus told us to do. Because God will take care of everything in its appointed time.
00:28:14
Speaker
So I hope that you feel that God has lit that light today within you. And that if you know of somebody who needs to hear this word from God, then please share this event with them so that they too can hear God's word.
00:28:27
Speaker
Because together we are working to spread the word about reading God's word and that ah people be pointed to our father in heaven and our savior. We will grant them the Holy Spirit once they are once they receive Jesus as their Savior.
00:28:44
Speaker
And that's what we are looking for, for this good word of the good news to be preached to everybody in all nations. So thank you very much for joining me here, whether you are listening on your favorite podcast or whether you are watching on video.
00:28:59
Speaker
And I will be here for everyone again tomorrow.
