Today's reading will include Matthew Chapter 14:13-36, Mark Chapters 6:30-56, Luke Chapter 9:10-17, and John Chapter 6:1-21.
Today we will read about times when the disciples had faith and times where they did not have faith. We will read about the disciples returning from their first ministry trip and Jesus feeding more than 5,000 people with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish after asking Philip how they should feed the people. Philip answered that there was no way to afford feeding the people and Andrew agreed, saying that one boy had brought dinner of 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish, but it wasn't enough for everyone. After showing the disciples that nothing was impossible for God Jesus sent the disciples ahead of him and then joined them out on Lake Galilee in the middle of the night by walking out to them on the water. We will see Peter ask for confirmation that it really is Jesus who is walking on the water and asking to be called to join him. Initially Peter has faith and begins to walk on the water but when he saw the waves he got scared and began to sink. Jesus asked Peter his faith was so small and he did not believe.
In our discussion for daily application we will talk about we can also have a tendency to have faith in God for some things but not when things look absolutely impossible. To day I will share my testimony about how God healed my husband after he had a stroke 5 years ago. We need to keep our mind on our faith in God and not focus on what seems to be impossible. What may seem impossible for people is not impossible for God, and Jesus wants us to learn how to do the impossible with God. During his time with the disciples He taught them that if they had faith to do so, they could move mountains from one place to another and uproot trees from one place to another. Jesus also taught in Mark 11:24 that when we pray, believe that you have received it and it will be ours. Like Jesus growing the faith of his disciples by sending them out on their first ministry trip, allow the situations you experience in life to build your faith in God so that you can do more and more with God and not be discouraged by what looks impossible. Seemingly "bad" situations that we experience are meant to help grow our faith in God, so I encourage you to take everything to God and have faith. As an example of this I shared that every doctor I took my husband to insisted his brain damage was permanent, but God told me that He would heal my husband, and He did. Thankfully I had faith in God and not in the doctors and my husband is better off today than he ever would have been if I had believed the doctors and not had faith in God that He would heal my husband.
