Monthly memberships to support this event can be purchased on my site, here: https://www.inthefamilywaycoaching.com/offering_packages

Today's reading will include Matthew Chapter 9:1, 18-38 and Chapter 13:53-58, Mark Chapters 5:1-20 and 6:1-6 and Luke Chapter 8:40-56. We will also look at Hebrews Chapter 11:1-7.

Today we will look at what faith is. Faith means to have trust, confidence, belief in someone or something. The first and most important step in our relationship with God is to believe in Him or have faith in Him. Today's reading will contrast having faith in Jesus and God vs NOT having faith in Jesus and God.

In our discussion for daily application we will talk about faith in our own lives and how it is impossible to please God without it. God has more than earned our trust. Nothing is impossible for Him. God wants to do amazing things for us, with us, and through us, we just need to have the faith for it! Whatever it is we need, let us to bring it to God; let us have faith that He will answer and provide what we are asking Him to do. We saw today that those who did not have faith did not receive. Let us have full faith in God and Jesus so that we may both ask and receive what we ask for!

Introduction & Purpose of the Bible Reading Plan

00:00:03
Speaker
Welcome back, everybody. Today is September 2nd's reading through the Day by Day Kids Bible written by Karen Henley. My name is Robin and I am with In the Family Way Coaching, and I am so glad that you are joining me for this year long event.
00:00:17
Speaker
We are reading through the entire Bible, getting the big picture from Genesis to Revelation using that day-by-day kids Bible. This is a chronological Bible written in storybook form that's written at an easy to understand level, but it's not just for kids.
00:00:33
Speaker
This Bible is applicable for everybody and it gives us a great, quick, easy way to read and understand God's word for us so that we understand the big picture.

Understanding God's Plan

00:00:46
Speaker
Why is it important to understand the big picture? Because then once we see overall the big picture of what God has in store for us, then we can look deeper and even go through with a microscope.
00:00:59
Speaker
And then we can understand everything in context of the big picture. If you are following along using your commitment calendar or bookmark calendar, it's time to get that out and get your sticker ready or whatever you're using to mark off today's reading because you're about to hear the Bible today.

What is Faith?

00:01:19
Speaker
Today, we are going to be looking at faith. What is faith? The definition of faith is trust, belief.
00:01:32
Speaker
If you have faith in someone, you trust that they will do what they say they are going to do. If I say that I will go to the store after I get off work tonight, my husband knows that he can trust me.
00:01:44
Speaker
He has faith that I will remember to go to the store. I may forget some of the things on my list, but I will get to the store and get it done. When we have faith in God, it means that we have trust in his ability. We have faith and trust that he exists.
00:02:03
Speaker
It's very important in our faith. It's very important in our relationship with God that the very first step for anybody is to believe in him.
00:02:16
Speaker
We cannot see God. The closest thing we have to being able to see God is Jesus. we're going to look at the definition of faith in the Bible.
00:02:33
Speaker
According to the book of Hebrews, in chapter 11, it says, faith is confidence in what we hope for.
00:02:46
Speaker
Assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for. This is what they were told that they did a good job about. That is what it means to be commended.
00:03:01
Speaker
By faith, by trust, by confidence. We understand that the universe was formed at God's command so that what is seen is not made out of what is visible.
00:03:16
Speaker
Only just today are we beginning to see these invisible actions in action.
00:03:23
Speaker
By faith, by trust, Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith, he was commended as righteous.
00:03:35
Speaker
Righteousness is when we are doing what is right. it is the It is the being of being right. when God spoke well of his offerings.
00:03:47
Speaker
And by faith, Abel still speaks even though he is dead.

Faith in Action: Biblical Examples

00:03:53
Speaker
By faith, Enoch was taken from this life so that he did not experience death.
00:04:00
Speaker
He could not be found because God had taken him away. For whip before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleases God. And without faith, it is impossible to please God because anyone who comes to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
00:04:24
Speaker
That earnestly means to seek him with all of our heart, our strength, our mind, and our soul.
00:04:32
Speaker
By faith, Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. And by his faith, he condemned the world and became the heir of righteousness that is in keeping with faith.
00:04:51
Speaker
We could go on that chapter 11 of Hebrews. We'll talk about other people like Abraham and such. So how important is faith?
00:05:03
Speaker
It is the basis on which everything else is built. We must first believe in God. And as we've been reading his word this year, we've learned learning that his word is true.
00:05:17
Speaker
Everything he spoke about that he said would happen. happened. And God says that he told us ahead of time what would happen so that when it did, we would have evidence of the fact that what he said was true and that that would bear witness to the fact that he is alive, that he exists.
00:05:37
Speaker
We are called to be his witnesses, being meaning that we have seen what he has done. So our Bible is full of accounts, witness statements, and records of amazing things that God has done.
00:05:53
Speaker
So how important is it to you to be considered trustworthy, to be considered faithful? Even a child is known by their deeds.
00:06:04
Speaker
We are all known by our fruit. Are we faithful? God was very upset with his people because they did not have faith in him. They were worshiping false gods.
00:06:18
Speaker
To be the only God who exists and to have shown that and proven that existence to his people over and over again, that hurt him deeply. When we do not have faith in God's abilities and in his existence, it hurts God's heart.
00:06:37
Speaker
We know how it feels when somebody tells us that we are lying or we are not being truthful. When we know good and well that we are telling the truth and that we will do what we say we will do because we have consistently shown that we have done so.
00:06:52
Speaker
We are faithful. We are honest. We are trustworthy. Is our God trustworthy? Absolutely. So we're going to be looking today at people who have faith and Jesus' disappointment about when people do not have faith.
00:07:11
Speaker
How much faith does it take to believe something will happen? Not much. We're going to be seeing some incredible witness accounts of the things that Jesus did because people had faith.
00:07:27
Speaker
And then we will be seeing where Jesus did not perform what we would consider miracles because the people just simply didn't have any faith. They didn't believe.
00:07:39
Speaker
When we do not believe in Jesus, who are we really not believing in That's right, God. Jesus is the son of God.
00:07:49
Speaker
And we have learned so far in our new covenant reading that we need to believe first in the one who sent him. And then we need to believe in him. Jesus is God's ambassador. He is a representative of our living God.
00:08:04
Speaker
He is God with us, Emmanuel. He became flesh. He became a person, a human being like you and me.
00:08:15
Speaker
Today, we're going to first read about a sick little girl.
00:08:25
Speaker
Jesus took the boat to the other side of the lake and a big crowd of people came to see him. Remember, this was after he was told to leave the other the other side of the lake. He was here and then he went across the lake to...
00:08:39
Speaker
um gaserinenes And then they told him to go because he had cast the spirit who was legions into the pigs. And then they had run off down the hill and into the water and died.
00:08:53
Speaker
Now they were, he was told to leave. So he got back in the boat and now he's gone back to where he was before

Miracles and Faith's Power

00:08:58
Speaker
he sailed this way. And of course the big crowd was still waiting for him. It says in our big Bible that they were anticipating, they were looking forward to him.
00:09:09
Speaker
Now a leader from the town's worship house was in that crowd and his name was Jairus. He bowed down in front of Jesus and he said to Jesus, my little girl is sick.
00:09:20
Speaker
She's going to die. Please come with me and touch my little girl so she will live. So Jesus went with Jairus and many people followed them.
00:09:32
Speaker
The people pushed in around Jesus. Among those people, there was a woman in the crowd and she had been sick for 12 years.
00:09:44
Speaker
She had been bleeding for 12 years. Many doctors had tried to make her well and in fact, she had spent all of her money on doctors trying to get well, but instead of getting well, she got worse.
00:09:59
Speaker
This woman had heard about Jesus. So she pushed her way through the crowd and she crept up right behind Jesus. And then she reached out and she thought to herself, I just need to touch his clothes and then I will be well.
00:10:18
Speaker
So she touched the fringes of his coat and right away she was well. She could feel it. Now Jesus could tell that power had gone out of him, so he stopped and he looked around and he asked, who touched me?
00:10:39
Speaker
Many people are pushing against you, said his friends. Why are you asking who touched you? but Jesus kept looking around. Then the woman came up to Jesus and she bowed down at his feet.
00:10:52
Speaker
She was so scared. She was shaking. But she told Jesus everything.
00:11:01
Speaker
You are well because you believe, said Jesus. Go home now. You will have peace.
00:11:12
Speaker
Jesus was still talking to the woman when some men came to Jairus. Your little girl has died, they said, so don't bother Jesus any anymore. But Jesus did not listen to them.
00:11:23
Speaker
He told Jairus, don't be afraid. Just believe.
00:11:30
Speaker
People were crying loudly when he got to Jairus' house, but Jesus went in. He let only Peter, James, and John go inside with him. Why is everyone crying? asked Jesus.
00:11:43
Speaker
Why are you making so much noise? This little girl isn't dead. She's just sleeping. The people laughed at him, so Jesus sent them all out.
00:11:57
Speaker
He took Peter, James, and John in with him. He took the little girl's mother and father in with him too. Then he went into the little girl's room.
00:12:09
Speaker
Jesus held the little girl's hand and he said to her, Little girl, get up. And right away the girl got up and walked.
00:12:20
Speaker
She was about 12 years old.
00:12:25
Speaker
The people were very surprised and Jesus told them to bring her something to eat. He said, don't tell anyone else about this.
00:12:37
Speaker
Two men who could not see. Two men who could not see began to follow Jesus. This was after he left Jairus' house. They called out, Jesus, be kind to us and make us well.
00:12:52
Speaker
Jesus kept walking and he went inside a house, but the men followed him in. Do you believe that I can do this? asked Jesus.
00:13:04
Speaker
Yes, Lord, they said. Then Jesus touched their eyes. He said, you believe, so you will see.
00:13:16
Speaker
And they could see again. Don't let anybody know about this, Jesus said. but they left and they told everybody about it. Then another man came in and he was controlled by a bad spirit.
00:13:31
Speaker
He couldn't talk and a friend had brought him in to see Jesus. So Jesus sent the bad spirit out of the man and then the man could talk. People were surprised.
00:13:45
Speaker
We have never seen anything like this, they said.
00:13:51
Speaker
And Jesus went back to the town where he grew up. He took his friends with him. The worship day came, so he taught in the town's to worship house. Many people heard him there, and they were surprised. "'How can he say all these things?' they said.
00:14:07
Speaker
"'How can he be so wise? "'He even does wonders. "'Didn't he work in the woodshop when he was growing up? "'Isn't he Mary's son?' He is the brother of James and Joseph and Judas and Simon and all his sisters live here.
00:14:25
Speaker
thinking about Jesus bothered them. Nobody says good things about a prophet in his own town, said Jesus. Now Jesus made a few sick people well there, but that's all he could do.
00:14:41
Speaker
and he couldn't do any other wonders. He could hardly believe that their faith was so small.
00:14:49
Speaker
Jesus traveled through many towns and he taught in the town's worship houses. He told about the good news of God's kingdom and he made people well. Jesus looked out at the crowds of people.
00:15:04
Speaker
It seemed like they had no one to help them. They were like sheep with no shepherd. These people are like the farmer's field. It's time to bring in the crops, Jesus said to his helpers.
00:15:19
Speaker
but there are not very many workers. Ask God to send workers into the field and the workers can bring in the people.
00:15:31
Speaker
And that is the end of our reading today.
00:15:37
Speaker
Do we see the difference between having faith and not having faith? There are so many things that God wants to do with us and for us. But Jesus will tell us later on that we do not receive because we do not ask.
00:15:52
Speaker
And even when we do ask, we don't believe.
00:15:58
Speaker
Nothing is impossible for God. Nothing. We will read about that later where Jesus will tell us that with man, these things are possible, but with God, nothing, nothing is impossible.
00:16:11
Speaker
And for those of us who have been reading this event the whole year and are getting the big picture, we have seen God do so many, many amazing things. God doesn't do them because he wants us to view him like a circus act.
00:16:26
Speaker
They're not done for our entertainment. God loves us. God loved us so much that he sent Jesus into the world to be our Savior, to die for our sins so that he could be one with us by putting his Holy Spirit within us.
00:16:43
Speaker
We who believe in God and trust in Jesus as our Savior have the Holy Spirit within us. And we want to be sure that we are getting all we can out of this relationship with God.
00:16:57
Speaker
not because we want to be fabulous, but because God wants to do wonderful things through us. He wants us to take care of the world. We are to pray, Jesus said, that God will send workers into the field and that we can bring in the harvest.
00:17:14
Speaker
We're coming up to our festival of the year, our final festival. It is called the Festival of Trumpets and the Feast of Tabernacles. And it coincides with the final harvest of the year.
00:17:29
Speaker
These were prophetic festivals because Jesus will fulfill yet this um prophecy, this feast, when he returns again and lives among us.
00:17:44
Speaker
He has already lived with us once, but his time is not finished. He will come back. And when he does, then that will be the fulfilling of that Feast of Tabernacles or the Feast of Booths.
00:17:57
Speaker
When God tabernacled among his people in the desert for 40 years.

Faith in Prophecy and Personal Journey

00:18:04
Speaker
We want to be sure that we are having faith in God, that we that our faith is not small. Jesus, when he returns every single time to his hometown, notice how he keeps going back. He doesn't give up on them. He goes back.
00:18:19
Speaker
And yet it bothers them to see someone that they knew doing amazing things and teaching them, thinking that, how could this be possible?
00:18:30
Speaker
He's just a regular old guy. When God raises us up to do things, it's important that we recognize that it is not the person, but it is God.
00:18:41
Speaker
And Jesus was not gathering glory for himself, but he was pointing everybody to to God. It says that he went among the towns and he preached the good news of God's kingdom.
00:18:54
Speaker
We are to preach the same thing. We are to tell about God's kingdom. We are to bear witness to God. We are to tell people about the things that God has done for us.
00:19:05
Speaker
We can ask God to open our mouths with the Holy Spirit to tell us what to say to each individual person that we come across. We spoke about this a little bit yesterday. But if we don't first have faith, then we will have nothing to witness about.
00:19:22
Speaker
So how important is faith in your life? Are you looking for God to do amazing things in your life? The more we believe in God to do amazing things and to bring things to him, the more he will do.
00:19:37
Speaker
Jesus tells us today that because they believed, it would be done for them according to their faith. Let us be people who have a great deal of faith in God, not just the faith of a mustard seed, but let us have a great deal of faith, calling upon God to come to us in our times of need because we believe that he can and will, because he has in the past.
00:20:03
Speaker
Our God is faithful. He is trustworthy. We can believe in him and put our trust in him. We can have confidence in things that we have not yet seen. just as we are shown in Hebrews chapter 11.
00:20:18
Speaker
Well, I don't know about you, but I know God has lit my light today. I am just on fire. So I pray that your faith in God is increasing a tenfold, a hundredfold.
00:20:31
Speaker
so that you can share your faith with other people and bear witness to God. Ask God to show you amazing things. I love to see God do amazing things.
00:20:43
Speaker
One of the things that I asked God for years and years ago was that I prayed to him and I asked him and he is so faithful. He answered this prayer. I asked God to show me amazing things so that I could bear witness to him.
00:20:57
Speaker
I told him, I said, God, I want to see amazing things. Please open my eyes and show me amazing things so that I can tell other people about the things that you show me. And he has made me a witness.
00:21:10
Speaker
I love to tell about God's amazing things. Our God has done so many amazing things. We can't even remember them all. And I'm going to remind us all.
00:21:22
Speaker
Pardon my picture there. This is my Hallelujah House. This is a record of the amazing things God does for me. You can make your own or you can look up the Hallelujah House on my site where you can get connected with Julie, who will build you a custom built one that looks more like a house.
00:21:43
Speaker
Hallelujah means praise the Lord. And that is what we are meant to do. When God shows us amazing things, let us praise him. Let us tell others about him and bear witness to him.
00:21:58
Speaker
that's That's what we're meant to do, to bring glory to our God.
