Today's reading will cover Luke Chapter 13:18-21, Matthew Chapter 13:24-52, and Mark Chapter 4:26-34.

Today we will read and discuss stories about what the Kingdom of God and the follower's of God's Kingdom are like. We will read about how valuable we should consider the Kingdom of Heaven and how much effort we should put into seeking it.

In our discussion for daily application we will tie together the daily applications we have been talking about throughout the year: seeking God with all of our heart, mind, soul and strength, making God (and Jesus!) the most important ones in our lives, seeking God's will and purpose for us in our lives, believing in and obeying Jesus, building up treasures in heaven rather than seeking to acquire material possession, and lastly, valuing God's kingdom for the treasure it is, more than anything else in the whole world, because where our treasure is, there our heart will be.

Engagement Call-to-Action

00:01:11
Speaker
And thank you for all of those who are clicking the light button, who are subscribing and following, who are sharing this event and helping us spread the word about reading God's Word.
00:01:23
Speaker
Today, we're going to be reading about how much the Word of God means to you. How valuable is God's kingdom to you? Where are you storing up your treasures?
00:01:36
Speaker
Are you building treasures here on earth? Or are you building treasures in heaven?

Parable of the Weeds and Wheat

00:01:42
Speaker
God tells us that if we seek him with all of our heart, all of our mind, and all of our soul, and all of our mind, that we will find him.
00:01:51
Speaker
Are you seeking God with everything that you have? Is he what is valuable to you in your life? Let's hear about what happens when that is the most valuable thing in your life versus when it is not.
00:02:10
Speaker
Today's reading starts off with weeds. And yesterday, our comparison with weeds was for the troubles of the world. But today's comparison of weeds is going to be the seeds of weeds that the evil one plants, which are people,
00:02:27
Speaker
that are doing bad in the world. We are meant to be good seeds so that we can produce a harvest. What happens to the weeds that the evil one is planting?
00:02:41
Speaker
Let's find out. What kind of a plant are you? Are you like a mustard seed or are you like a weed? I don't think we have any weeds here. I think we have mustard seed plants.
00:02:56
Speaker
So Jesus just told his friends another story. God's kingdom is like this, he said. A farmer planted wheat seeds in his field.
00:03:08
Speaker
And one night while he was sleeping, his enemy came and his enemy planted weeds in the field. And then he crept away. Now the wheat began to come up and it got tall.
00:03:21
Speaker
But the weeds came up too. The farmer's servants came to him. Sir, didn't you plant good wheat seeds? They asked him. Where did all these weeds come from?
00:03:34
Speaker
The farmer said, the enemy did that. And the servants asked, well, do you want us to pull up the weeds? And the farmer said, no.
00:03:45
Speaker
He said, you might pull up some wheat too. So let the wheat go. And the seed, the wheat and the weeds, ooh, that's hard to say, let the wheat and the weeds grow together.
00:03:59
Speaker
And soon it will be time to bring in the crops.

Parable of the Net and Fish

00:04:02
Speaker
And you can bring in the weeds first. You can pile them up and tie them together. And then you can burn the weeds.
00:04:11
Speaker
And after that, then you can bring in the wheat and you can put that in the barn.
00:04:18
Speaker
Now Jesus left the group of people and he went into a house and his friends went with him. They asked him, remember the story of the weeds and the wheat? They asked him, what does it mean?
00:04:32
Speaker
Jesus explained to them, am the one who planted the good seeds. The field is the world. The good seeds are the people in God's kingdom.
00:04:46
Speaker
And the weeds are the people who follow Satan. Satan is the enemy who plants those weeds. Bringing in the crop happens at the end of time.
00:04:58
Speaker
The angels are the ones who bring in the crops. The weeds are pulled up, said Jesus, and they are burned in the fire. And that is how it will be at the end of time.
00:05:15
Speaker
I will send out my angels, said Jesus, and they will take the sinful people out of God's kingdom. The sinful people will be thrown into the fire, and they will cry about it.
00:05:29
Speaker
But think of the people who do what is right, said Jesus. They will shine like the sun in God's kingdom. Hear this if you have ears.
00:05:44
Speaker
Here's what God's kingdom is like, said Jesus. A farmer plants seeds, and night and day the seeds are growing. They grow while the farmer sleeps, they grow when he is awake, and they grow even if he doesn't understand how.
00:06:00
Speaker
All by itself, the ground grows wheat. First the stem comes up, said Jesus, and then it makes a head. The farmer cuts it when it is ripe, and that's the time to bring in the crops.
00:06:18
Speaker
It must not be time that we are not yet ripe yet. The crops have not been brought in yet.
00:06:26
Speaker
Seeds, yeast, pearls, and nets.

Mustard Seed & Kingdom Growth

00:06:32
Speaker
God's kingdom is like a mustard seed, said Jesus. A man took the seed and planted it. Now the mustard seed is the smallest seed of all but it grows into the biggest plant in the garden.
00:06:50
Speaker
It becomes a tree. Birds fly to it and they sit in its branches.

Hidden Treasures & Valuable Pearls

00:06:59
Speaker
God's kingdom is like yeast, said Jesus. A woman mixed the yeast with a lot of flour and she mixed it all through the batter.
00:07:12
Speaker
What's the batter? The world.
00:07:17
Speaker
God's kingdom is like riches in a field, said Jesus. The riches were hidden underground and a man who was digging found them. He covered them back up again.
00:07:29
Speaker
He was very glad to find those riches. So he sold everything he owned to buy that field.
00:07:39
Speaker
God's kingdom is like a man who is shopping for fine pearls. One day he found a very special perk. There was no other pearl like it in the world.
00:07:51
Speaker
It was the best. It cost a lot of money. So the man sold everything he owned. He bought that pearl.
00:08:07
Speaker
God's kingdom is like a net in the lake, said Jesus. Many different kinds of fish swam into it. They filled the net. So the men who were fishing pulled the net up to the shore and then they took the fish out of the net.
00:08:22
Speaker
They put the good fish in baskets and they threw the bad fish away. And that is how it will be when time ends, said Jesus.
00:08:34
Speaker
Angels will come and they will keep people who did what's right. They will throw out the sinful people. And then the sinful people will cry.
00:08:47
Speaker
do you understand what I'm saying? Asked Jesus. Yes, they said. How about you? Do you understand?
00:08:59
Speaker
Some teachers know about God's kingdom, said Jesus. And it's like people who own houses. They have rooms where they store things.
00:09:10
Speaker
And sometimes they bring new things out of their rooms. And sometimes they bring old things out of their rooms.
00:09:18
Speaker
And Jesus told them many other stories. And he said hardly anything to the people without telling them a story. But he told his friends what the stories meant. So the psalm came true.
00:09:33
Speaker
i will talk in stories and I will tell secrets hidden since the world was made.
00:09:40
Speaker
And that is the end of our reading today.
00:09:45
Speaker
Every time we talk about something that comes true in the Old Covenant, that is yet another prophecy that Jesus fulfilled. I want us to have eyes to see and ears to hear.
00:09:59
Speaker
Remember, Jesus fulfilled so many prophecies, all of them. There were so many of them that the odds, the statistics, the The logic of anybody in the and entire world ever being born who would fulfill every single prophecy is impossible, except for Jesus.
00:10:20
Speaker
The odds are so huge. Just if we took even 80 of those out of all of them, and there are over 300 prophecies that Jesus fulfills in the Old Covenant.
00:10:33
Speaker
And so today, when Jesus said to them, that people who know about God's kingdom, it's like they own a house and they have things where they store things. They have places where they store things and they bring up old things, just knowledge and and learning from the old covenant.
00:10:53
Speaker
And they bring out new things. And that is what Jesus is teaching them. He was bringing in new teaching. And so when we have both the knowledge and the understanding,
00:11:06
Speaker
of the old covenant the new covenant. It is like bringing old treasures up and taking them out for a big dinner party, like having China that's been passed down or silver that's so really, really silverware that's been handed down or by eating or having antiques and then also having new furniture and in new cups to serve with the dinner.
00:11:34
Speaker
We have both. Not just one and not just the other. We have both.
00:11:43
Speaker
So did you see yourself? Are you like a mustard seed where you are growing in the world? We talked yesterday about bearing fruit.
00:11:54
Speaker
And I pray that you will be as fruitful as the tree of life. That God will prune every branch. And that every branch that bears fruit in you will bear even more fruit.
00:12:06
Speaker
And today we also talk about how valuable God's kingdom is. God's way is the way. Jesus tells us that he is the way, meaning the only way.
00:12:18
Speaker
He is the truth. He is the light. And how much do we value that? We've talked about where your treasure is. That's where your heart will be, that you can't serve both God and money.
00:12:32
Speaker
that you can't serve two people, you will love one and hate the other. We can't love our life here enough to where we just want to live our life without living the life that God chose for us to lead, to be who he created us to be.
00:12:50
Speaker
God's

Valuing God's Kingdom

00:12:51
Speaker
kingdom is like a very narrow gate. it is There are ways that we are to listen to Jesus and obey. And Jesus told us yesterday that those who have even some understanding will gain more understanding.
00:13:05
Speaker
But those who have even only a little, they will lose what understanding they have for those who are not really listening and seeking after God's kingdom. We want to value God's kingdom, God's ways, getting into heaven.
00:13:23
Speaker
as being the most important thing, the most valuable treasure that we could ever possibly find, so that we give up anything that we need to give up in order to have that treasure, where we are storing up treasures in heaven, where moth and rust don't destroy, where nothing breaks, where no one can come in and take it away from us.
00:13:47
Speaker
Things eventually wear out, no matter how great they are. Everything eventually wears out and breaks. Doesn't matter if you make it brand spanking new, you buy a brand new house, eventually things will break and you have to do repairs.
00:14:01
Speaker
Eventually the roof has to be replaced because it's too he's getting too old and it's leaking all over the place. But God's kingdom is so valuable that it's like the most beautiful pearl you could ever find.
00:14:17
Speaker
And then you sell everything you have in order to acquire it. That is the seeking. If we seek God's kingdom with all of our heart, if we seek him and search for him, he promises that we will find him.
00:14:31
Speaker
We have to be dedicated. We have to want him more than we want anything else in this world.

Personal Discovery of Purpose

00:14:39
Speaker
a number of years ago, maybe close to 10 years ago,
00:14:44
Speaker
I felt like Jacob wrestling with the angel. And he said, I won't let you go until you bless me. I believed and knew that I had a purpose. I had read Rick Warren's book, The Purpose Driven Life.
00:14:55
Speaker
So I knew that I had purpose. And that book is good. It gives you a sense of general purpose. But I wanted to know my personal purpose. And I believe that God gave me a purpose.
00:15:07
Speaker
And so I wanted to know that purpose. What did he design me for? What am I to do? And so I sought that every day. and even now today, you will hear me talk about the fact that God has purpose in my life every single day.
00:15:24
Speaker
I seek that purpose every day. ask God, what do you have for me to do today? What goals do we have today? Who are you going to bring for me to learn from or to talk to And I've talked about how I'll be at work and I'll be like, oh, I'm just, I'm just doing my work. And God will say, knock, knock, knock, knock.
00:15:45
Speaker
Remember, you're not just doing work. I have you right where you are meant to be for a reason. then I start looking and I start thinking, is it you?
00:15:56
Speaker
Is it you? Is it you? And then God opens up somebody's mouth. Sometimes it's mine. Sometimes it's my neighbor's at work. And I end up talking with them and we have these amazing connections where we talk about God.
00:16:13
Speaker
And I find that I have a brother or a sister in Christ that I didn't know that I had before. It could be that they offer me some encouragement, that God uses them to teach me something. It could be that God wants me to share something that we've been learning in this event.
00:16:28
Speaker
But there's always purpose. And I look for that purpose. It is my joy. It is my delight. When and God put into my path to teach me that everybody has been given names and that that is how we learn how to be who we are meant to be.
00:16:46
Speaker
And then we do that. And that one of my names is obedient and witness.

Being Useful in God's Kingdom

00:16:51
Speaker
So I am God's obedient witness. I am meant to experience things with God and then share them.
00:16:58
Speaker
And so I look forward with joy to doing these readings so that I can experience these things and share my my similarities, my experiences, so that you can identify just like the stories that Jesus is telling.
00:17:11
Speaker
We are meant to see and understand with things that we already know about and then apply it in our own lives. So I hope that you are encouraged to know that you have personal purpose in God's kingdom.
00:17:28
Speaker
What has God designed you to do and be? Only you and he can do that together. And it's it's amazing. And there is so much joy and it is the best.
00:17:41
Speaker
It is the absolute best. He leads me to do things which then lead to other things, which then lead to other things. And it's it's just, it's so exciting. It's like being on this amazing journey.
00:17:54
Speaker
and And I am so much happier now than I was when I was just felt like I was lost without my purpose. Once you have purpose, I don't know, it might be a little older. Maybe a lot of you guys have not seen anymore.
00:18:07
Speaker
The Thomas the Tank Engine series. It's like, I think it's claymation. And Thomas the Tank always wants to be a very useful engine.
00:18:20
Speaker
He wants to be useful. I love that. I think it's created by reverend by a somewhere. I think that's who it's it's written by. So it's you can see the they are teaching ah good ah understanding.
00:18:38
Speaker
We want to be useful in life. I want to be useful. I don't like to receive or have anything unless it is useful for me. So for instance, I don't acquire a bunch, a bunch of different shoes.
00:18:53
Speaker
I know that's a thing for some women or even men that they want to have lots of different kinds of shoes. This one for this one, that one for that one, but I don't need a lot. I just need enough for what I need.
00:19:06
Speaker
and don't have any use for more. I'm not interested in acquiring more and more and more shoes. I don't need to have a bunch of different purses. Right now, I have a purse and I use that purse. And I don't worry about whether it matches what I'm wearing or anything, because for me, it needs to be functional.
00:19:24
Speaker
Right now, my person is holding a lot of stuff ah and I go through and take the trash out and stuff like that. But it has use for me. It has purpose in the same way.
00:19:35
Speaker
i hope that for your daily application today, that you ask God where your purpose is, where are you useful? in God's kingdom because all of us have purpose.
00:19:47
Speaker
God has use for you. And we want to seek that purpose and grow and bear fruit and put our treasure with that and serve and love Jesus and make God the most important one in our lives.
00:20:04
Speaker
Do you hear all the many different applications that come together into one beautiful picture and build upon one another? hope you do. that you have ears to hear and eyes to see.
00:20:18
Speaker
Well, thank you for joining me today. i hope that you feel that Jesus has lit your light today. We are the light of the world. That is a big part of our purpose. We are meant to light up the world and show others the way to our great Savior who gives us purpose.
00:20:34
Speaker
We know that at the very end, according to what Jesus told us today, that there will be those who choose not to do God's will. And they we they will be separated out like weeds.
00:20:47
Speaker
And when that happens, they will cry about it. They may be laughing now. They will cry then. Let's be seeds like the mustard seed and grow and bear as much fruit as the tree of life.
00:21:06
Speaker
So thank you for joining me here today. Let's share this event by clicking the light button or the share and let's help spread the word about reading God's word.
