Welcome to the Chick Foley Show.
00:00:22
Speaker
What is up, Foley fam?

Post-Bad Blood Episode Challenges

00:00:24
Speaker
We are back with a post-Bad Blood episode of the Chick Foley show. We'd intended to record a preview episode earlier in the week, but as you mentioned the last couple of times we've recorded, we are just beyond jam-packed. It's hard to find the hour of free time to record this on a Sunday morning as we are, but enough about

Sheena's Spotlight and Farm Life

00:00:41
Speaker
that. We want to get to the wrestling, but before we do that, let's introduce the star of the show, Sheena. How you doing?
00:00:46
Speaker
I'm doing good. Actually, I actually prefer, you know, me, I'm an early bird. So if we're going to record, you know, recording in the mornings, you're peaking right now. I'm peaking. Hopefully I'm peaking right now and they give you guys a good show. But I got my cup of coffee. Um, you probably hear some roosters chiming in in the background, but, uh, yeah, I'm, I'm good to go. Uh, let us know what's new on the farm.
00:01:05
Speaker
Um, so it's garlic season. So if you're out there and you want to plant garlic for the next year, uh, for your garden, you need to be ordering your seed garlic and getting it in the ground. Uh, I mean, honestly, if you're like, you know, zone seven eight, you can wait until like the November, uh, to plant your garlic, but.
00:01:21
Speaker
I love planting garlic so that's kind of what's going on here and everything else is kind of wrapping up. I still have some squash on the vine that are that are ripening and peppers are blowing up. I'm nursing a sick goat back to health so uh you know things are things are happening not a whole lot but just day

Halloween Wrestling Plans

00:01:38
Speaker
to day.
00:01:38
Speaker
Yeah, so the plan for this episode, we are going to talk bad blood and touch on a few of the other happenings around the wrestling world. A little bit of figure talk, and then we'll get out of here, man. Me and Brett got a little bit of a heart out because me and Brett are going to Memphis Wrestling. It's their biggest show of the year. Their annual Halloween Spooktacular, and this year Dan House is the big guest. And then Sheena, tell them about the costume you got crafted for the Brett man for the big costume contest.
00:02:04
Speaker
we kind of, I didn't know till like the last minute that they were going to do a costume contest because you know me, I love a good costume. I would have crafted Brett up something like really, you know, detailed and all that. But we kind of found out at the last minute, so we were kind of scrambling to figure out what we could do for Brett. And then we decided we could, he could be Orange Cassidy. He's got the perfect hair. You know, we could tuck the mullet back into the back of the jacket. He's got a jean jacket and matching jeans. And we just got him a little white tee.
00:02:29
Speaker
So we're gonna roll with orange Cassidy make it super casual And I think I think it'll be a hit especially cuz Dan houses the Dan houses the best Yeah, exactly. So I think I can't wait. I'll show you

AEW and WWE Developments

00:02:40
Speaker
guys some pictures. We'll post them on that the feed and in the group Alright want to remind you guys this show is brought to you by ringside collectibles use code chick Foley to save 10% on all your purchases Sheena you ready get into bad blood. Yes
00:02:55
Speaker
All right, so a couple of news and notes we do gotta touch on before we get there. AEW re-signed their media rights deal with Warner Brothers Discovery. Three more years on TBS and starting in 2025, it's gonna be simulcast on HBO Max. Paper views on Max for a reduced fee. Shane, what's your initial thoughts on this TV deal?
00:03:16
Speaker
I mean, I'm glad, first of all, I'm just glad this is over. We can just quit. Yeah, we can just quit speculating and quit thinking about what's the future for AEW. I'm glad that TBS signed in for another three years. I'm also happy, and we have Max, so I'm stoked that we're going to get a reduced pay-per-view rate, and we won't have to watch it on that God-forsaken, like, Leecher Report app and all that. Super happy for all the guys over at AEW and that AEW is going to live on.
00:03:44
Speaker
This is super significant for the Internet wrestling community, because two big points of discourse are now gone. One, the will they, won't they two year saga of the AEW TV deal is done and ratings threats. I feel like kind of the, you know, people have loved to clown on the AEW TV ratings for the last kind of year and change that they've been on their decline. That's dead now because, you know, it's going to kind of be irrelevant with because I'm sure there's going to be a huge chunk of people watching on max each and every week. Yeah.
00:04:14
Speaker
for sure um all right let's get into bad blood sheen first off what did you think of overall vibes of the event back for the first time in almost 20 years in atlanta i i've it felt big time to me what'd you think
00:04:25
Speaker
I thought it felt big time. WWE is firing on all cylinders right now, dude. The production is killer. The production is crazy. We saw even just leading up to this, the little Roman and Cody moment at the Georgia stadium. Everything about it has been big time. This is bad blood. This isn't SummerSlam. This isn't Royal Rumble. This would be a show.
00:04:50
Speaker
Yeah, this is a B-show and it just, it felt big and I loved it. I loved the look of it. I loved the little stage, like, you know, the smaller screen. They had the people packed in there. They were almost 17,000 deep. Huge crowd. Awesome. I loved all the legends too, the different call outs of legends. Yeah, that was really neat. I liked how we were doing that between all the matches and some people we haven't seen in a while, so that was cool. Let's get into it. First match, Hell in the Cell, CM Punk versus Drew McIntyre.
00:05:18
Speaker
Bro, it was just, it was as brutal as this match needed to be. I felt like it really paid off just as the way that this feud has played out over the last several months. CM Punk, you know, we've given CM Punk a lot of shit on the show over the years, but I gotta give the guys flowers, man. He is back. He's doing the damn thing. He looks amazing. He's wrestling amazing. I thought this match was epic.
00:05:44
Speaker
Yeah, to me it felt like a proper reboot of Hell in the Cell. I feel like that's the end all, be all of gimmick matches in WWE. And I feel like they had really bastardized that thing over the last eight, nine years. He had weird finishes like that Seth and Bray Wyatt one. He had that time where Brock attacked Roman and Braun Strowman and the match just kind of ended. This felt like a proper reboot of it. It's gonna be something we only see for the biggest and hottest feuds.
00:06:12
Speaker
Yeah. Punk beat Drew clean. It was like, I mean, it was straight up. Nobody came in. They stayed in the cell. They just, I mean, they utilized what they had in the cell. They didn't, it was just... Both guys bled. Both guys bled. So rare in WWE. Yeah. I thought it was great.

CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre Analysis

00:06:28
Speaker
I want to give myself a pat on the back because when Drew pulled out the little baggy
00:06:32
Speaker
that traditionally holds thumbtacks for the big spot. We pulled it out and Seth said, he said, oh boy, we had the kids here watching on the couch with us. He said, what's in the bag? And both the kids said, thumbtacks, thumbtacks. And I was like, dude, what if it's bracelet beads? Right at that moment, dumped it out, bracelet beads scatter all over the ring. So I was like, yes.
00:06:54
Speaker
Yeah, it was just pitch perfect booking the way the match was laid out because it gives Drew an out also, right? Because Drew looks better coming out of this that day. Drew had CM Punk beat and he just, you know, he let his anger and, you know, being a hater dude. Drew loves to be a hater and he let it get the best of him and it cost him. For sure. I loved CM Punk's gear with the tribute to HBK back at Bad Blood. Yeah, how cool. But, you know, we're used to seeing him with the tributes to
00:07:20
Speaker
Brett Hart yeah Brett's grinding his teeth up in Calgary yeah but yeah Sean had a you know in the iconic original hell in the cell match gets undertaker had the classic black and silver gear and i like one punk match it on the colors which i thought was cool enough and then if on the back of his trunks one of the stars was replaced by the classic hbk logo yeah i thought that was cool i love that
00:07:41
Speaker
Definitely need a, hopefully we can get that on the fast track for a figure, you know, no new tooling necessary. Just do a repaint and hit us with that shirt that he wore for his entrance. I think we're good to go. I know after this match, Seth and I were talking about how, I mean, I don't think it'll ever happen, but how if Mattel just started doing, you know, blood figures and how like, dude, that drew when he's just staring in the, you know, got the full crimson mask, dude, like, ugh.
00:08:05
Speaker
Yeah, we'll get to it in the figure segment, but yeah, I got some thoughts on some stuff Mattel could really do to spice up the line. Second match, we had Nia Jax and Bailey. I thought it kind of was what it was. I thought it was a good match. I mean, it gave us what we wanted. Obviously, we didn't know whether Tiffy was going to cash in or not. I think we knew she was going to get involved though, and I think that's the flaw of the
00:08:28
Speaker
of the build on this. It's fine. I mean, it was just a mid-card match. Everything's not supposed to be epic made of it. I mean, Timmy Stratton and Nia Jax is the real match here, right? It felt like you're, yeah, because it felt like you're just buying time until Tiffy gets involved. I do like the creative way they did the ref bump with Jessica. Poor Jess, dude. She got squashed. In between them, and Nia just kind of collapses down on her, hits her with the splash. I've been watching wrestling a long ass time, and that was a brand new way to see her ref take a bump, and it worked in the context of the match.
00:08:56
Speaker
Yeah, Naya's looking good, dude. She's got more, she's more agile. She's lost a little weight. I mean, you know, again, nobody shammings, whatever. I just think she looks, I think she looks good. She's on the best run of her career. Yeah, she's on the best

WWE Match Reviews

00:09:07
Speaker
run. She seems to be performing with a lot more confidence. I think she's being herself a lot more than any kind of character, you know.
00:09:14
Speaker
She's still not like most girls, but she's more like herself than she was before and it's you can see the confidence in one You know the moves just the way she carries herself to write like everything about her seems like she's having fun And it conveys on TV and and yeah this she hasn't injured anybody recently. That's true yeah, and this the the path with her and
00:09:32
Speaker
Tiffy that they're on. It's a lot of fun because the crowd wants to cheer for Tiffany Stratton so much, which is funny because she's definitely a heel character wise, but I think everybody just recognizes that she's such a can't miss blue chip. She's almost like bra and breaker. Like even though they're heels, you still want to cheer for them just because they, they look like they're, you know, future multi-time WrestleMania main eventers.
00:09:51
Speaker
Mm-hmm. Yeah, I thought it I thought she did great. Yeah, I mean the the bonsai drop I mean Nia just nails that yeah, I can't I cannot imagine being at the bottom of a Nia bonsai drop Yeah, that's intense
00:10:05
Speaker
All right, so then we had the first of our two our Judgment Day double-header we had Finn and Damien went first, right? Yeah, Finn and Damien the match that whole storyline runs together so much but yeah Finn and Damien went first This is another one where you kind of just waiting around for the Judgment Day to get involved If I could be critical prime of the one thing I'm most critical about in the night, dude. I felt like they really
00:10:29
Speaker
sent Finn Balor packing, dude. In my eyes, he's dropped down a little from this, dude. JD and Carlito got involved, and he still got beat. And he hit Damien with all his best moves. He had multiple modified coup de gras. Had help from two of his buddies. And like he said, he still lost, dude. Geez, dude. Because I love Finn, and I was really thinking, with him being the undisputed leader of the Judgment Day now, we were due for a Finn Balor main event push. Does not feel like that coming out of this, man.
00:10:58
Speaker
Honestly, you know, this might be a hot take. I don't think we ever see Finn Balor, uh, to the level that he was like, you know, back in, what was it? 2014? 16. I mean, 14 in NXT, but 16 is when he came up to the main roster. Yeah. When he won that, he won the universal championship and all of that. I just don't think he's ever going to be there. That's not taking anything away from him as a wrestler or a character. Um, Finn is incredible. I just think there's something going on where it's just like, it's not.
00:11:28
Speaker
Clicking like something, you know, I think it's clicking with the fans. I think it's more in the company side. Oh, that's what I mean I think they're not off Ziegler, dude I think they know that he's an amazing wrestler. He's an awesome You can put him up in the main event and you know He's just as good in the main event is using the mid card and he's kind of bulletproof, you know part in the punter that's part of fans gimmick for a while, but
00:11:48
Speaker
But he could take losses. He's one of the guys, you know, there's some wrestlers that if they, if they take a few losses, it really, really damages them. Where Finn, you know, if he, he's so good, he can just show back up. Why golf did all those years? Finn's always believable that he could win any given match, right? Like I actually chose him to win this. Cause I just thought like they're going to extend this Damien and Finn thing. Uh, I think they're, I thought they were going to go a little farther with it and they might still, but to me, like that was just a definitive loss against, uh,
00:12:14
Speaker
against Damien Preece. So I don't know what's next for Finn Balor, but I don't think it's Damien. She loves to peek behind the curtain because we don't get a chance to watch every single second of live wrestling we used to. We still watch a ton, but not every second. Sometimes she gets a little bit of anxiety, like, oh, I don't know enough of this stuff to be able to talk about it. And then she'll drop a random deep cut NXT reference from
00:12:40
Speaker
eight years ago, dude, and expect everybody to roll with it. Go back and watch. You don't think people know what's next for Finn Fowler? No, that was on a weekly episode of NXT that built to a weekly episode of NXT, man. That was the build defense farewell. His first NXT run, he fought Shinsuke Nakamura on regular NXT TV for his kind of going away match. And that was the promo he cut. And yeah, it stuck with Sheena clearly.
00:13:07
Speaker
He just kept saying it, what's next for Finn Balor? He said it twice and then the crowd started chanting Nakamura and then he said, I guess I know what's next.

Crown Jewel Trophy Announcement

00:13:20
Speaker
Yeah. Anyways, I'll see if I can find the, uh, the exact date on that episode. I'll put it in the show notes. You guys go check out this promo that Sheena dug out of the ether. You're welcome for that. All right. Uh, we had, they were smart cause you know, we were kind of sat and watched and thinking it was a little bit awkward that they were putting, uh, Dom and, uh, I'd want to say Dom and Ria living Ria, uh, right after basically was Dom Maria. Dom Maria had a, uh, a little bridge in that match. And, uh,
00:13:48
Speaker
and Damian Priest. They broke it up with this big announcement from Triple H. Kind of weird, but it's just still be entertaining. Crown Jewel is getting its own trophy slash championship deal where we're going to have the top two champs fighting each other like we used to have at Survivor Series a few years back. So it'll be going through going up against Cody and Liv going up against Nia Jax for this Crown Jewel belt, which is just ridiculous. It's like the biggest title belt I've ever seen. It looks like
00:14:16
Speaker
I mean, it looks like a giant laptop. It's bigger than the AEW belt somehow, which is already a huge belt. Yeah. And it's just, it's like, it's like perfectly like rectangular. So it looks even bigger. You know what I mean? It doesn't have any like, yeah, it doesn't have any like, you know, like angles that like go down and kind of circle it around. It's just looks like a crown jewel. I'll give them that. Yeah. It's like 50 carats. Yeah. It looks like a treasure chest. It looks like somebody took a treasure chest, melted it down and slapped it on the, uh,
00:14:42
Speaker
I love it. Yeah, so is this like, if you win that. You just have that belt. It's a trophy. Like I said, it's like that one heart cup belt that they get. Yeah. So it's not something you're going to have to carry on. Yeah. I mean, they may show up with it for a couple of weeks, but it's not something that's going to be like defended or anything.
00:14:58
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, I think it's cool for exhibition match, you know, and I get the feeling that it's probably going to be treated like, you know, Saudi shows go back and forth. There's some that are kind of like in canon, like storyline shows, and then there's some that are glorified house shows. I'm thinking this is going to be more on the glorified house show slant, where these are straight up exhibitions that don't have any real bearing on, you know, anything that happens afterwards.
00:15:21
Speaker
Yeah, no, but my thing is, it's like then you're wrapping up weekly TV and that too, though. I mean, I guess it helps to see a lot of build, dude. I mean, I could end up being totally wrong. I don't think we're going to see a ton of build on these matches. I think this is going to be I think the matches sell themselves, dude. You're going to get Cody versus going through, like I said, because remember some of the first few Saudi shows, they didn't have a ton of of TV build. They almost like existed in their own little universe. And this feels more like that. I mean, maybe they'll they'll find a way to incorporate it. But I just I have a hard time seeing
00:15:51
Speaker
Uh, you know, Gunther versus Cody. That's such a big match that I don't think this is going to be the true, uh, you know, Gunther versus Cody one-on-one match. Well, I think, I don't, I think there's going to be a lot of shenanigans too. Based on what we saw last night, as far as like Cody, I think Gunther, because Cody's going to have a lot of people against him, right? You want to do that. You know, obviously you don't want either one of these guys to take a.
00:16:12
Speaker
a clean loss and Cody's got a lot more of, you know, Cody's got the freaking, you know, everybody coming after him right now. Yeah. And Cody doesn't need that title either. I think, I think, you know, it is, it's kind of a, maybe it's kind of a heel title, dude, you know what I mean? It goes along with Gunther anyways, dude, to say, you know, he's the ring general, the champ of champs. Liv and Nia, I don't know what you do there. I mean, I don't know if you want to go interference on both of them, but you know, Ria could obviously assist Nia or you said Nia beat Liv clean. I think Liv can take a clean loss and it doesn't,
00:16:40
Speaker
It doesn't damage her too much. Especially against Naya. I mean, that's just like, you know, insane. Yeah, but I am interested, like you said, to see if they end up making these matches a thing on weekly TV or if they just, you know, just show up on a Saturday afternoon and we're going to have these these two big matches and some other stuff surrounding them.
00:16:56
Speaker
Then we had the aforementioned shark cage match.

Judgment Day Storyline Developments

00:17:01
Speaker
Dom in the shark cage. As always, the person in the shark cage gets out of it. But what did you think of Raquel Rodriguez coming out to apparently become the newest member of the Judgment Day?
00:17:12
Speaker
It was cool. I think, you know, there's some, there's some history there. Her, you know, her and Liv were tag team partners at one point. Um, I don't know. I think the biggest thing that confused me was like out of all of the options Raquel had for a ring gear that she could have like worn in like on her free debut. That shirt was just awful, dude. Like I, I, I've bagged on Raquel's, uh, look before dude. I feel like she's just such a presence and she's like big, you know, she's like big mommy cool.
00:17:40
Speaker
Why not just wear a regular black tank top? Yeah, dude, like she's just, she's got, she's got the body to wear whatever she wants, right? So she could totally wear that little string situation, but it just, it doesn't feel like, she feels like, like, what are you? Who are you? You know what I mean? Like her gears just literally says nothing about her. It was just an awkward choice. As far as her coming in to help live, I think it was cool. I think it kind of saved Ria a little bit from just getting beat clean.
00:18:06
Speaker
I like her being the the China to Dom and lives like HBK and Triple H. Oh, 100%. She ends up being the bodyguard for both of them. Yeah, live live definitely needs that I think I think cuz I mean lives a great wrestler in her own, right? But I mean, she's she's small, right? And she's not she's a heater. She needs a heater. Yeah, so I think having Roxanne or sorry, not Roxanne Raquel. There's her her heaters is a good call.
00:18:30
Speaker
So let's go to the main event, which was just absolute cinema. I gotta be honest, man, I think they burnt that ring entrance of Cody's. I think they could have saved that for WrestleMania. That was awesome, dude.
00:18:41
Speaker
true, but I think it was just kind of relevant in the moment because that, that band played, yeah, that was like viral. You know what I mean? So it was like, is that going to be relevant in like, you know, I don't think I think it would have been relevant. I get what you mean though. They want, they want to play off that clip on viral, but I think you could have used that at mania and it would have fit, man. That was just a really, really cool interest. I mean, I'm not complaining about getting off. True, but they're not going to let, they're not going to let freaking Roman come out to like the Philharmonic, you know, orchestra or whatever, and then have Cody come out to nothing.
00:19:08
Speaker
You know, just, just the music. See, I felt like they did the Cody, the Roman thing, because they did Cody's dude. I felt like they could have had both guys do their, their regular entrance. You know what I mean? They could have had both guys do their regular entrance too. But I mean, this is a moment.

Main Event Surprises

00:19:20
Speaker
This is a, this is a milestone. This is a milestone in the, uh, I'm not criticizing them doing them here. I'm saying that they could have saved that for mania if they want to. I'm complimenting how they let you know. Like maybe they're cooking up something even bigger for mania. Yeah.
00:19:31
Speaker
Maybe. What's he going to do for that skull mask? I feel like it gets bigger and bigger every time he comes out. He's going to look like a Funko Pop. Yeah. Anyway, so great match, typical bloodline stuff. You had the Tongans run in and Jimmy Uso ended up saving the day right before the finish. The Rock comes out at the very end to confront Roman and Cody when it seems like they were actually about to dap up and be friends. What were your thoughts on the main event presentation?
00:19:58
Speaker
I thought it was excellent. I thought the match was excellent. Um, I, um, the rock, he just came out and put everyone on notice, dude. I don't know what's going on. I don't know if he's pulling the strings for the bloodline 2.0 or if he's just like, you know, gone into business for himself now and he's just ready to wreak havoc on everyone. But, uh, yeah, I think, um, you know, I don't know when the next time we see the rock is, but it's bad. It's bad news for everybody out there.
00:20:25
Speaker
I still think eventually we find out that he's the one pulling the strings on Solo and this whole crew. It makes sense. And them being the goons, man, I think they'd be perfect to go on with the final boss character. Yeah, it was awesome, dude. I'm excited to see where we go, man. I'm still hoping that it ends with Roman and Rocket Mania this year, whether it's for the title or not for the title. I'm hoping that's the end state.
00:20:49
Speaker
for sure. Yeah. So I mean, you think we see Cody, Cody rock before that, like maybe, yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I'm thinking Cody and rock at the rumble or even elimination chamber. I mean, these shows are so big. Like you can have a whole show, just be, you know, Cody versus rock. Like we said, for, uh, Cena's last match and they're going to Netflix too. It could be a Netflix special. That'd be an awesome way to kind of build a,
00:21:11
Speaker
some equity and good vibes with your new partner. If we say, hey, sometime between the Rumble and Mania, we're going to do a one-off special exclusive on Netflix with the Rock versus Cody for the belt. That feels like something they could do. But yeah, I'm hoping Roman and Rock. Is that your choice?
00:21:28
Speaker
Um, yeah, I think it's just too risky. Not to do it right now. I mean, they've already, yeah, exactly. They've already put it on it. I mean, we thought we might get it at 39. Then we thought for sure we're getting it at 40 and then they swerved. And so now, I mean, it's just, you can only kick the can down the road so long before it one, either something happens and it kind of just fizzles out and it doesn't make sense anymore. Or two, I mean, Roman.
00:21:54
Speaker
gets injured, Rock gets in some sort of contract where he's not able to wrestle anymore. You know what I mean? Like there's just a million different avenues where this thing could go sideways. So I think you got to strike while the iron's hot. Overall thoughts on bad blood this year.
00:22:08
Speaker
I was, I was sports entertained. I love a five match card. I am here for the five match card all, all the time, dude. I think it's just a clean presentation. Um, there's no fluff. It gives, it gives room to breathe, um, and gives big mat, like there's, we're going to have a big match on Monday, right? So we have awesome matches spill over on smackdown and raw. We had the, uh, you know, the, you know,
00:22:30
Speaker
Three years ago, that that Chelsea Green, Mia Yim dumpster match would have been on this show. Sammy and Gunther definitely would have been on this show. Jay Uso and Xavier Woods definitely would have been on the show and it all ends up washing out, man. Yeah, you've watered everything down. Dude, you're excited to watch these freaking episodes of Raw and SmackDown because we're getting huge matches with Bill. And we've seen that, you know, title changes can 100% happen on Raw and SmackDown as well.
00:22:53
Speaker
Yep. So I'm, I love this new era of WWE. I'm, I'm excited for the future and I'm just like, you know, stoked. Yeah. They cooked last night, man. It was, uh, another victory lap on this run. They've been in, I think they said it was 60 sellouts for the year now. And, uh, you know, it's not people just blindly tossing their money at something, man. Like the product has been really, really quality. I've said it a few times, man, this last year, year and a half, it's as good as I remember wrestling being, as far as WWE has been, it's outstanding.
00:23:20
Speaker
Think about you buying, like, you know, buying tickets, like early tickets to Bad Blood, dude. Then all of a sudden, like they announced that you're getting a tag team match between Roman and Cody and Solo and Jacob Fatu. Then freaking The Rock shows up, right? So you're just thinking you're going to Bad Blood, which in its own right, it's cool. Like to go to any pay-per-view is really cool. But, you know, didn't have all that happen at the pay-per-view that you're at. Like, wow. Yeah, it was awesome. Uh, you still good with Roman and Cody going on last?
00:23:48
Speaker
Oh yeah, there's no other way. I think starting the show with The Hell in a Cell was really cool. It set the pace for the entire show. I just don't think there's any way that you could have put them on in any other place. Especially with The Rock coming out. Yeah, I didn't do it with that. But even outside of The Rock coming out, I still think... The moment Cody started making his entrance, I was like, yeah, this had to go on last.
00:24:08
Speaker
Yeah. Cody, Cody flying off the freaking corner, like the term book or the ring post back on Jacob. Yeah. So, uh, that was awesome. Everything was great.
00:24:19
Speaker
All right. Really, really cool stuff that they're doing. Just to know that, you know, everything counts. This is all exists in its own universe. We saw a heel turn on social media, dude. Like, it was so slick how WWE did this. They know that fans hang out to watch the superstars leave the shows. And Kevin Owens, after seeing Cody, basically joined the OG bloodline with Jimmy Uso and Roman Reigns to end the show. We didn't even talk. Did you say Jimmy came out?
00:24:45
Speaker
I mean, we mentioned Jimmy and the Tongans coming out. Yeah, okay. I was like, yeah, dude, that was so I love seeing Jimmy did Jimmy and Roman embrace it. He was just right the heartstrings. But but yeah, Kevin Owens jumps Cody Rhodes outside of his his tour bus.

Kevin Owens Heel Turn

00:25:02
Speaker
And, you know, it's all done with the fans filming it from from, you know, cell phones and stuff like just genius way to book it makes it just seem more real. And yeah, now we got officially got heal Kevin Owens back.
00:25:13
Speaker
Yeah. And it was a mystery cause like, you're like, Cody's not at the press conference. Like what's going on? Why is Cody not at the press conference? Uh, he's always there. And then you find out later that he got jumped in the parking lot by Kevin Owens. And honestly, man, Cody had it coming, dude. I feel like KO is a hundred percent justified on this. I've said it multiple times on this show since Roman came back at SummerSlam, even though I'm here for it, you know, I love Roman Reigns. This is the most nonsensical
00:25:37
Speaker
babyface turn of all time. Why is anybody cheering these people? This guy lied, manipulated his own family to his own game, cheated babyface after top babyface after top babyface, held the championships hostage for years. And his cousin that came back that everybody's cheering for last night, he cost his own twin brother the world championship at SummerSlam last year. These guys are straight up POSs, man.
00:26:00
Speaker
But just because they were gone, we missed them. Wrestling logic, now we're cheering for him. So I think KO is 100% justified on attacking Cody. True, but that's us. I don't think Roman is like a, you know, I don't think he's like a white meat baby face now, or he's just gonna be like kissing babies and stuff.
00:26:17
Speaker
The big dog is back, dude. He's not back, dude. He's goofing off, dude. Jimmy gave him, or he told him, he wasn't even going to go back and save Cody, dude. Jimmy had to give him the nudge to go back and be like, all right, this is one time. That was the gentlest nudge of all time, dude. I'm talking about, dude, look at Roman's mannerisms during the match, the way he's laughing and smiling and stuff. I'm telling you, dude, that's like
00:26:39
Speaker
It's like 60% Tribal Chief, 40% Big Dog at this point, dude. The Big Dog moment is here. 40%? That's- Maybe 35%. I don't know. Maybe I'm being a little bit hard just because I love the Tribal Chief character so much. I mean, I like the Big Dog character too, but it's just funny to me. Like I said, I get it. It's wrestling. It only makes sense if you don't think about it too hard.
00:27:00
Speaker
But yeah, the fact that Roman is just a beloved, good guy. I mean, I think he is kind of white meat baby face right now, dude. Like I know what you're saying. He showed some hesitation on helping out Cody, but it wasn't that much hesitation. And even before that, like they didn't have any. He looked like he was all about teaming with Cody Rhodes, man. There was like no trepidation on his part or he didn't seem like he was in pain to be tag teaming with this guy last night. It's just, it's just funny to me, man.
00:27:23
Speaker
Yeah. So you see, you see Cody or a Roman coming out, like, you know, on, on episodes of SmackDown saying, you know, it's a great night to be in Cleveland. Like, I mean, I say, you know, saying Cleveland, Ohio acknowledged me is just the, that's Roman's way of saying it's a great night to be in Cleveland. They acknowledge me is that did I just, just, it's, it's fine. I'm enjoying it. But that's just my little quibble dude that he's, uh,
00:27:48
Speaker
It feels more just like we're just going to roll with it because we know the crowd is going to cheer no matter what we do, which is fine. That's better than trying to go against crowd reactions to tell the story you want to tell, but it's more just funny to me than anything else. I mean, it's long overdue too. I mean, we acknowledge him as a tribal chief, but I mean, his babyface years, I feel like Seth and I were in some of the minority for years of grownups who were
00:28:15
Speaker
on the smart crowd, dude. Yeah. The marks always loved Roman, which is really the audience that you should be most worried about. But yeah, so yeah, I get it. He's he's earned the love. And like I said, it's more playing me. I think it's a better option.
00:28:27
Speaker
I think just rolling with the crowd reactions is a better option than trying to like swim upstream and keep telling the story you want to tell him that the crowd's not vibing with it. And we saw a little bit of that on Monday with Brian Breaker basically turning face when him and Jey Uso came out in that little love fest after Jey took the icy title from him. Yeah, I loved it, man. I mean, the best compliment I can give it, I'm really excited to see what happens on Raw Monday night. Yeah, that's gonna be a good show. All right, let's talk some figures.

Wrestling Figure Releases

00:29:05
Speaker
I wanna remind you, this segment along with the entire podcast is brought to you by Ringside Collectibles. Use code CHICKFOLY to save 10% on all your purchases there. Yeah, so stuff coming out of last night, like Sheena said, dude, we were talking, I feel like it could happen, man.
00:29:21
Speaker
Blood and Guts, you know, similar line for for WWE and Mattel. Maybe it's Mattel Creations exclusive or Ringside exclusive. So you're not actually seeing it on the pegs, you know, when a mom's going down the aisle with her six year old, even though our, you know, seven year old would absolutely love these figures. But I think it'd be really cool. What would be your your first choice, Shane?
00:29:41
Speaker
Oh, Steve Austin, for sure. Yeah. I mean, you got to have bloody Steve Austin. That would be such a freaking release, man. Steve Austin with the, you know, I'm sure they could absolutely crush that head scan of the iconic shot where he's in the sharpshooter. Yeah, like squinted eyes and screaming, screaming mouth scan. Just imagine what some of the the figtographers could do with that. Oh, yeah.
00:30:00
Speaker
I'd love to get a classic Hulkamania Hulk Hogan from maybe WrestleMania 7 when he got busted open by Sergeant Slaughter. Bloody Hulk would be cool. You can have John Cena from his match with, I wanna say it was Umaga where he had the Crimson Mask on, but yeah, there's a ton of really good meat on the bone for this one, man. Maybe Randy Orton from that time when Brock Lesnar just split his head wide open.
00:30:23
Speaker
You get brought from WrestleMania 31 when Roman's in his head in the post. Yeah. A lot of a lot of really cool options out there, though. And I think this would be a really neat line. I think I think it's going to happen, man. They've toyed with it. You know, we saw the the peck damage to Cody. I mean, they've done internal blood and guts with the you know, with Cody. Yeah. You had the mankind with the the bloody mouth. What's your caution? What we see? Bloody Mattel figures in the next. We'll say before the end of 2025.
00:30:53
Speaker
before the end of 2025. So that'd be like, we're seeing reveals at like WrestleMania access or Comic Con next year. I don't think we'll have like full crimson mask. I think they're going to dabble before they just like battle damage. Yeah. They'll have like, yeah, some battle damage stuff, maybe like some blood dripping down the head instead of like, you know, full on. Um, I think they'll see how that's like AW or it looks like they just came out of like a freaking mass shooting or something. Right? Yeah. Yeah. All right. Uh, I think what's your most wanted figure from last night?
00:31:22
Speaker
Oh, most wanted figure from last night. Let me think. I feel like, I feel like Roman with the red wristband instead of the black wristband on the. Cody with the, Cody with the Pinocchio vest was kind of cool. Yeah. They'd be, they'd be easy to do that in the elite line too. Cause you don't have to do soft gauge, right? You can do the rubber and still have the arm movement. I was going to say, I feel like the Roman with the, uh, the red wristband instead of the black wristband on his, on his left wrist. I feel like that's going to be like on Walmart's pegs when I go and check today, dude. That's such an easy one. I can't think. I really want that punk man.
00:31:52
Speaker
Oh the punk yeah for sure I think that I think the punk cuz I mean that's the one that's got the most like cuz I don't think anybody else had any like highly definitive ring gear stuff look good we talked about Drew still missing a Drew's missing the ultimate edition we need that fin look cool merfin at the mask oh yeah you're right I'm totally forgetting that fin came out there's lots of way out of gear remember
00:32:11
Speaker
Damian Priest had the Scott Hall tribute gear with all the red blood drip and stuff. And Rhea had Scott Hall tribute gear too. So yeah, I'm wrong. Everybody came out with cool stuff. I've had people killing it with the gear last night. Bailey, Naya in that red ensemble, whatever you call that thing that Naya wears. Yeah, catsuit. Yeah.
00:32:27
Speaker
That'd be cool too. But yeah, my number one most wanted though is the CM Punk. They've released that Shawn Michaels multiple times. It's actually on the pegs right now as part of the Monday Night Wars greatest hits slide. And I think that'd be a really cool one to go along with it. I love any of the callback stuff. If you want to do a callback to like the new gen or early attitude era, I'm a sucker for that, man. I'll eat that stuff up.
00:32:49
Speaker
All right. Ringside has had a ton of really cool stuff come in stock over the last two weeks. So I wanted to quickly touch on that. We've been able to get it all in. I want to get Sheena's thoughts. Y'all know she gives the best, most unbiased figure reviews. What do you want to start with Sheena at the presets? We'll start with these Royal Rumble figures. So we got the Hurricane, Cody Rhodes, Hulk Hogan, and... Hold on. Sorry, my phone is glitching out.
00:33:18
Speaker
in 2011 diesel along with the build a figure great collie build a figure great collie. I remember when they showed this Hulk Hogan at like access or wherever it was and they were like, you know, look like
00:33:31
Speaker
little, what they call it, like flasher hulk. He has the towel, because it looks naked from the top, and then he's got this towel over him. But I think this is a good set. I don't think it's anything that like you... Well, the hurricane with the face paint is cool, right? Instead of the mask. Yeah. First time we got in hurricane with the face paint. The hurricane figure is really nice. The diesel's cool. It's 2011 diesel when he came back at the 2011 Royal Rumble. So it's old man, Kevin Nash, and the diesel gear.
00:33:59
Speaker
And it's the top is like a white top as opposed to the gray. We've always gotten from diesel before. So it's a nice looking figure. I think the Hulk's cool for like a deep cut. I mean, if you've got to have Hulk in the line, it's something different. I never thought we would get Hulk holding up that banner. Imagine if you made that banner. That would be awesome. Yeah, I wonder if I wonder how that even works if they had to track that guy down or if they just said, you know, WWE just like screw it, dude. Yeah. And the great scene you want to tell them about Bob immediately noticing something off with the great collie figure.
00:34:27
Speaker
What did it, the height? Was it the height? Yeah, you don't remember what Brett said. So Brett's got a basic great collie that he plays with his figures. And so we opened up the set, we put together and he said, as we were building it, he was like, something looks weird about this great collie. Something's wrong. And he said, hold on a second. He ran up to his bedroom.
00:34:42
Speaker
came back with his basic Great Collie and put him up side by side. I've seen a few different places across the internet now, but it was bad enough that our seven-year-old who's never even seen Great Collie wrestle, he knows him from like the Instagram video or you know real of where it shows Great Collie like basically murdering Ray Mysterio. That's his whole knowledge of this guy, but he immediately knew something was up and went and grabbed him. And he put him back to back and he was like look how much taller he is. Yeah, the basics about half a head. I get it dude because I feel like the whole
00:35:10
Speaker
a lure of a great collie figure is just having this absolute giant. So I'm a little bit annoyed by the scale being off on it. Yeah. That was ridiculous, dude. I mean, like you said, I mean, what's the point in having a great collie if he's not just going to tower over all of your other... We love our friends at Mattel, but this one's a weird one to me because I'm almost... We'll have to hit up Trey for my damn toys, but I'm almost positive that they had to build unique parts
00:35:33
Speaker
for those legs anyways. It's not like they were, you know, using parts that were already on hand. I think those, you know, those long baggy pants like that, I think that was all new molding made for him. So why not just make it to the correct height? Yeah, because the bottom of the pants have like the elastic, like the, you know. Yeah, as far as I know, and he's got the new feet also, the new style elite feet. So I don't know, just a weird choice, but it's not the end of the world. Figure of the set, Sheen.
00:36:01
Speaker
I would say the figure of the set is probably Hurricane. I like that figure. I think it was good. Yeah, I agree. Hurricane was definitely the coolest. What set do you want to talk about next?
00:36:10
Speaker
Let me see if I can pull up my, let's do the WrestleMania elites, WrestleMania 41. We got Bret Hart, Seth Rollins, Bianca Belair, and yet another Hulk Hogan. I feel like we've had this Hulk Hogan like a million times. He's been in basics a couple of times. The only elite we had was way back at Elite 34. Really with the yellow boa?
00:36:32
Speaker
Yeah, well, this is Old Man Hulk from Street Gear. It's not like Hulk still rules. This is Hulk from WrestleMania 30 when he came out with Steve Austin and The Rock at the start of it. Pretty cool figure if you're into that. I don't really have the need to have an Old Man Hulk, but this one is cool that it doesn't have the rubber, poly pocket style shirt. It's actually got soft goods, and it's got the print on the back of the shirt as well. It's not a Velcro joint, so I think it's the definitive Old Man Hulk if you're into that kind of thing.
00:37:01
Speaker
Yeah, the Seth Rollins looks really good. It's missing something. Obviously, it's not an Ultimate Edition, so, you know, probably weren't going to get it like a jacket, but this figure needed a jacket. So Seth gave it a custom jacket. Yeah, I took the elite jacket from Carmelo Hayes Elite and throw it on the set. And it looks really good to help round it out because, yeah, like I said, I don't think there's any way that they could execute that ridiculous entrance coat that he had at WrestleMania 39.
00:37:27
Speaker
Yeah, Bianca Belair looks great. Really nice figure. Yeah. I was not excited at all about this, but after getting it in hand, I think it's actually the best figure of the set. I think it's the best figure of the set too. Yeah. She looks amazing. Got the, um, the Hollywood like star on her ring gear.
00:37:42
Speaker
Yeah, love it. And then Brett, I think honestly, as far as Brett goes, on the scale of Brett Mattelhead, this one isn't bad. It's not super offensive. I've heard a bunch of people saying that. I think you guys just have Stockholm syndrome and you're sympathizing with your captors now. I don't think it's that bad. I mean, it doesn't look actively bad. I still don't think it looks anything like Brett. To me, it looks like Michael Jackson dressed up as Brett Hart for Halloween.
00:38:05
Speaker
Like that is the eyes are a little, the eyes are a little off. The eyes look a little bit like kind of psycho. Again, we love Mattel. I'm not praising them for this. Sometimes I feel like they, they make it, they make him look a little witchy though. And like, this doesn't look like that. It may not look like that, but it still doesn't look like Brett. Somehow like the original, the first, like the funny moments Brett
00:38:25
Speaker
is still the best head sculpt they've done of him even with all these technological advances in the 12-year system. This is a really cool figure. It was a little bit of a unique look for Brett where he's got like the singlet over the pants. Dude, it's missing the trophy, dude. So this obviously for those that don't know because it's damn near 30 years in the rear view at this point. It's over 30 years in the rear view at this point. It's almost 40 years in the rear view. This is from 1988, WrestleMania 4.
00:38:49
Speaker
When the Heart Foundation basically turned face, um, him and Bad News Brown had teamed up to eliminate everybody from the WrestleMania Battle Royale. And you're thinking, you know, with the agreement that they were somehow going to share the grand prize, which you can imagine how that worked out. Bad News Brown turns on Brett eliminates him, but then Brett comes back in the ring and destroys the trophy. I feel like we're missing that destroyed trophy, dude. You know, they could do that. They've done the breakable Andre, the giant trophies before, dude. Like if this would have had.
00:39:19
Speaker
that trophy that you could hold in Brett's hands like he's slamming it down. I feel like this could really be like a hidden gem of a Brett Hart figure, but it's still really cool without it, but that trophy would have set it over the top. It feels like it was right there.
00:39:32
Speaker
Yeah, this set comes with a build a figure Howard Finkel as well. So yeah, I did a comparison with the build a figure from a couple years back. I think the only difference is this one is slightly taller. It looks a little bit more out of scale. So if you missed out on that first one, which is pretty pricey on the secondary market now, I definitely think it's worth, you know, you got to get this one. If you have the original, it's not worth going out of your way to upgrade.
00:39:54
Speaker
All right. Now moving on, we will talk about the new Ultimate Edition. So we got both Ray Mysterio and Dom Mysterio, which is super cool. And then we got an LA Knight. I love this set, dude. I wasn't that hyped for this set just based off the lineup. Getting them in hand. These were all three gems, man. The Dominic with the Ray Mysterio mask is
00:40:15
Speaker
The Dom is awesome. I love the synergy that they just released that variant of Dom on WWE 2K the same week that figure was hitting, which is pretty cool. Dom's backordered right now. Yeah, it's definitely the best Dom figure. I do.
00:40:30
Speaker
Hot Take, I think the Ray Mysterio is the best Ray Mysterio figure that's ever been released, man. It's so freakin' toy edit. That's a big claim. Yeah, that covers a lot of ground, dude. Just look at this figure, dude. The head scopes are awesome. He doesn't got that weird undersized head that they seem to do for a lot of the masked guys when they do them. The gear looks incredible. And he goes perfect because it's matching the Dom. They're from the same match.
00:40:53
Speaker
So I thought it was really cool. And then the LA Knight looks great too. I didn't think I needed another LA Knight figure until I had this one in hand. He's got the Jordan 11 Concord boots, which is obviously going to be a soft spot with me. And they finally got some good head scopes, like the soft good shirt with the vest is a really, really good look. Yeah, I'm not the biggest LA Knight fan, but this figure freaking rocks.
00:41:14
Speaker
Yeah, I think this is a great ultimate edition set for sure. What do you give best of the set out of Ray Dom and LA Knight? I mean, you've kind of like sold me on the Ray. Ray is really good. Yeah, my knee jerk was that the Dom was the best because I think it's really cool that they gave us the Dom with the Ray Mysterio head. Yeah, with the Ray Mysterio mask.
00:41:37
Speaker
I'm gonna go with Dom. Ray is just, there's just too many rays, dude. You know what I mean? It's a lot, yeah. Nobody needs another Ray Mysterio figure. Yeah. I mean, I'm not saying there's too many. I'm just saying, like, if you're gonna compare, like, if you're gonna say this is the best Ray Mysterio, you know what I mean? Like, it's, it's, that's a tall ass figure. I'll say there are too many Ray Mysterio figures. He's been, as great as he is, he has been a little bit over-represented in the
00:41:58
Speaker
the wrestling figure they do and they look great he always kills with gear if you want figures made do like Ray does and constantly have new and bright gear and a lot of times he's just doing color swaps that's the other thing that makes it easy for them to crank his figures out because he's not getting any kind of new style gear he's literally just swapping around the colors dude yeah all right let's get to our listener mail
00:42:25
Speaker
All right, our first question comes in from Sam Rosenthal. A little behind the scenes, we posted this a couple of days ago. So Sam said, if the port strikes last a while, what worries you more essentials or the outsiders set? Also, I thought ringside flew everything in. For those who don't know, the port strike actually got put on hold. They're resuming operations and they're going to reconvene and try to work out a deal.
00:42:50
Speaker
uh by january i think like what 15 or something like that so it got pushed off to january so the ports are back in order um but if it was still going on would you be more worried about your outsider set or the outsiders for sure or your toilet papers were produced here in the u.s but
00:43:08
Speaker
No, definitely the outsiders. It came out that it's not a shipping delay. It's an actual delay with the manufacturer from Ringside. They posted it I think a day or a day or two ago and reply to somebody's Instagram comments. So hopefully the next two weeks, I mean, those things are supposed to be here late August and we're early October, probably the most anticipated figures of the year. So they'll be here shortly, though.
00:43:28
Speaker
Yeah, Tom Montalto, the OG fig kid, he posted in reply, he said just the early orders get through and everything else comes in on ship. So yeah, if you do order like, you know, from ringside, like it's getting shipped over, the only thing that comes over are the early boxes. Yeah, that's why they always have that initial wave, then it'll be like two months before they get them back in stock. Yeah.
00:43:48
Speaker
I'm Johnny JB. Are you guys watching the Menendez brothers show on Netflix? If so thoughts, it's called monsters. It's on Netflix. It's the Lyle and Eric Menendez story. So is it part of the same cinematic universe is the the Jeffrey Dahmer show where that was called monster to Is it was that on Netflix too?
00:44:08
Speaker
Interesting. I don't, I don't know. So, uh, I can't believe, I feel like I've heard of this case before, but I'm totally blind. I'm almost finished with it. I tried to like plow through it, but like, I can't really watch it when the kids are around. Cause there's like, you know, it's very, very dark and there's a lot of like really hard content in there.
00:44:27
Speaker
Um, so trigger warning for, you know, anybody, like make sure you look up what the show is about before you, before you dive in. Um, but I, it's, uh, it's really good. It's, it's a total mind F because like, there's been times when I'm like, Oh my God, these guys are horrible. They're the worst. And then there was times I like sympathize with them. And then now I'm back on the side of like, you guys are freaking idiots. Like there's just so many emotions and I don't know how it's going to end. I don't, I can't remember exactly how, um,
00:44:54
Speaker
how the case plays out. So yeah, I'll give you my thoughts once I once I finish it. But overall, it's been a really enjoyable series. I feel like you know, the actors have done a really good job. But yeah, I I've really enjoyed I mean, enjoy it as much as you can enjoy a story about something that this is about. But
00:45:10
Speaker
To confirm, it is season considered season two of the monster series. The original was Jeffrey Dahmer. So this is monsters is season two. So we're going to get like Gacy and John. Season three is already been announced. It's going to be the original monster with Ed Gaine. So yeah, so for the true crime aficionados, yeah, it looks like keep supporting these shows. Looks like Netflix is going to keep pranking them out for y'all.
00:45:34
Speaker
Interesting. I'm always a big fan of the anthology series where it's the same series, but like different cast and story each year. I like that a lot. I will say the one thing I'll say about Netflix, again, I don't know how this plays out and I do sympathize with the Menendez brothers and like on the things that they went through and whatnot. But Netflix is making the serial killers, like even Dahmer, like you kind of like, there was like a sympathetic feeling that you have for them. By the time I got done watching Dahmer, I gave the show a thumbs down. I thought they
00:46:04
Speaker
portrayed him too sympathetically.
00:46:22
Speaker
Yes, he's in a horrific like human being, like just absolutely irreprehensible. And yeah, you just kind of just were like, oh man, like, you know, you felt a little bit of feelings for him and you should never have to feel feelings for Dom or like, no way. Anyway, I'll give you my thoughts, Johnny, after I finish it. But yeah, so far, so good.
00:46:42
Speaker
Zach Hertzler, have you watched the Netflix special on Vince McMahon? If so, any thoughts on it? Did you watch it? No, we got to sit down and watch it. We've been struggling on watching stuff, but I haven't watched it yet. I've heard it's pretty good. Not a lot of new ground covered, but still what's there is presented in a good way. I know there's some figure news that came out of it because we actually saw on the background of
00:47:06

I think it's 1994 New York toy fair. You can see the actual finished inbox prototypes of stretch figures of, um, you know, diesel and doink and stuff, which I want to say, I think Brett Hart and Lex Luger were the only two that actually released. So that's kind of fun. That's cool. Um, yeah, it's definitely on our list of things, but like I said, even our, like, um, you know, our spooky season watching has been not,
00:47:28
Speaker
We got to do five movies where last year we did about a dozen plus. Yeah, we did. We watched a lot more scary movies. I'll ask Seth if we can leak it over into November and maybe we'll just have a fall brawl of scary movies. If you want to watch Thanksgiving. Tom Montalto, the OG big kid says, is there any value left in wrestling figure collecting?
00:47:48
Speaker
with so many indie lines and people coming out in different lines and all the greatest hits, it's changing the game. I think I'm going to let Seth give the full answer on this because I feel like he would give a better perspective. But just based on your question, I feel like value is in the eye of the beholder, right? Oh boy, here we go. That's not what he's talking about, dude. He's not talking about that kind of value. He's talking about financial value, dude. Well, I'm just saying, what you need to read about... So you're going to be seeing with the life lesson, view the Full House music.
00:48:15
Speaker
But here, go ahead and finish what you're saying. I think you if you're only collecting for monetary purposes, then that's one thing, right? But like, I think you should like your values like if it brings you joy, if it brings you happiness, if you enjoy doing it.
00:48:30
Speaker
then by all means, it doesn't matter what else is out there. If you can afford it, if it's not putting a strain on your financial situation, then go for it. Do what makes you happy. Life is too short to just be like, I can't do that because for whatever reason. Financial value, I'm going to pass it over to our figure guru. What do you think? I do got to point out that Tom called the OG Fig Kid for a reason, Shane. He was out hunting figures where you're still filling up diapers, so I don't think he needed the
00:48:58
Speaker
the lesson, you know, doing it for the love of the game. I don't think he needed the lesson, but there's somebody, there's somebody out there that's like, you know, I feel like they're probably evaluating whether or not it's worth it to keep collecting figures, right? Because dude, right now, money's tight for everybody, right? Unless you're just like, you know, out there just absolutely bawling.
00:49:18
Speaker
You have to be careful with your finances. I know people are making some tough decisions out there and there's things that like, you know, you're cutting a lot of things that maybe, you know, we're just kind of frivolous spending, right? But there's also a value in like happiness and joy and like having hobbies that you enjoy, right? There's health benefits to that. There's happiness benefits to that. And I feel like there's people out there that
00:49:39
Speaker
Maybe they're like, I'm just going to stop collecting figures altogether when maybe it's just a matter of reevaluating the way that you collect figures. Maybe you go from being a completionist to just collecting certain lines or collecting a certain character. I don't think Tom needed the life lesson. Maybe he did. We'll ask Tom and see what he thinks about my life lesson.
00:50:02
Speaker
So financially, I think if you're looking to make 40 or 50 bucks profit on a figure selling it on eBay, then yeah. Those days are gone. I wouldn't say they're gone, but it's definitely a down period for that right now because of the re-release era.
00:50:21
Speaker
The indie lines or whatever I don't I really don't think the indie lines are going to hold value like the mainline stuff does I think it's going to be tough to search it and I just don't know how I mean it's too early to tell because it's kind of unprecedented I don't know how this stuff is going to be looked at you know a decade from now if it's going to be more akin to like really really good customs or like bootlegs or if it's going to be considered like you know
00:50:41
Speaker
Actual official releases man, so I think it's tough I think it's tough because Mattel has such a head start like there's no way that these indie lines are going to be able to keep up and have the history and have like the And they don't there's no way they can get all the contracts, right? They're just not affiliated You know, I mean they're right at the end of the day. They're not official even if you sign the you know, you got our
00:51:02
Speaker
a deal with a individual wrestler, it's not the same as having the WWE, WCW, AEW license, man. So I worry about that. I really don't think that stuff's going to hold value. I do think, I think the move is to, I know the thing right now people are thinking with all these re-releases is, oh, well, you know, the newer figures are better. They're the upgraded version. They have better articulation, maybe better paying apps, whatever, whatever improvement it is.
00:51:27
Speaker
You want to upgrade? I think 15, 20 years from now, I think the original figures are going to be the ones that are more valuable. Think about it when you see like the old, you know, if you look at like vintage Star Wars and stuff, people are always after like the originals, right? Like the original packaging, you know, what detail was only on the first release. So I think those first release figures.
00:51:45
Speaker
are still going to end up being the ones, even if they're taking a dip on their value right now, I think long-term, like actual, like big money selling figures, I think they'll be the ones that are worth something. And I think the first time in the line figures, I think, you know, you see how big rookie cards are. I think as time goes on, I think first time in the lines or, you know, the rookie figure of folks, I think that's the kind of stuff to invest in. So I think there's still money to be had. It's not going to be as many, you may have to be more patient.
00:52:12
Speaker
And things are so much more wider released now than they were, I feel like, when the line first started. They're doing a good job with distribution, yeah. Distribution has been, you know, outside of the Monday night wars line, distribution has been really good the last year and a half or so.
00:52:28
Speaker
I hope that answered your question, Tom, and I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on whether or not you took anything from my life lesson.

Horror Movie Suggestions

00:52:35
Speaker
Zach Hertzler wants to know, any spooky movies that you've seen lately? The most recent one, I think we caught you guys up on everything that we've watched. The most recent one we watched was called The Haunt. It was basically like some kids
00:52:48
Speaker
go out and find a find a nefarious yeah nefarious haunted house in the middle of nowhere and go through it and you know come to find out the haunted house is like you know a legit haunted house uh a house of horrors if you will and um there's so there were some wicked kill scenes definitely suspenseful i like scary
00:53:07
Speaker
The look, yeah, the look of it and everything was really good. The vibe was really good. Um, I enjoyed it. I mean, it was, you know, I don't think it's going to be anything that I'm going to go back and watch, you know, every, every season. Yeah, but it was, it was a good movie. Um, and that's like one of my biggest fears. I think that's why I don't go, I don't go to haunted houses anymore. Like I used to love, I used to love going to like haunted houses and that kind of thing.
00:53:29
Speaker
But then the more you start to think about it, you're like as an adult, I'm like, you know, like people are crazy. Like that is a perfect, perfect scenario. And they played that scenario out in the movie, not to spoil anything if you plan on watching it. But they, I'm sure you can assume that, you know, these people are watching this person who is like, you know, an unsuspecting victim actually get, you know, killed, tortured. And they're just like, they think it's all part of the show. So yeah, that's, that's one of the reasons why I don't go to haunted houses anymore.
00:53:57
Speaker
Um, Tyson, Neil Trevino, do you think it was the right move not to take the title off of Roxanne? Seth? Uh, I mean, Julia is definitely a big enough star. She could have won the championship in her first match, but you know, I think it, it was cool the way they told the story and stuff, you know, with Cora Jade coming back. Um, I dunno, I'm fine with it. I think that one you could have gone either way. Uh, I think Roxanne has been, she's been on such a run that I'm not complaining about her title reign, extending through a couple more big events.
00:54:26
Speaker
All right, and our last question comes in from Sam Rosenthal.

Favorite Hell in a Cell Matches

00:54:30
Speaker
What is your favorite Hell in a Cell match? The first one, 1997, Bad Blood, Shawn Michaels versus Undertaker. That's one of my absolute all-time favorite matches. Yeah, I think, I mean, as far as matches go, like, yes, that's a better, like, as far as technical match, I think that's a better match than what I'm going to choose. But I think mine's just iconic. You know, you got King of the Ring, 1998, Undertaker versus Mankind.
00:54:56
Speaker
That matches age well. I actually, I've liked that match a lot more as the years go on. You know, for years I kind of thought it was overrated and was just, you know, a spectacle more than a match, but there's actually pretty badass storytelling going on. And I think that it is an all-timer of a battle. What's your favorite modern Hell in a Cell match?
00:55:17
Speaker
Dean and Seth had a really, really good one at Hell in a Cell 2014, but then they kind of messed it up with the... Did the thing come back? Or not the thing. No, Bray Wyatt came back. Bray Wyatt came back. He was like a ghost. He was like a flickering ghost and then he suddenly appeared. Yeah. That was good. Cody and Seth was really good. Cody and Seth was good. Cody and Edge was really good. Edge and Seth was really good. Sasha and Becky was really good in Hell in a Cell.
00:55:41
Speaker
Yeah, Sasha and Becky was good, but I think I'd have to go in either that trio set against Dean, Edge and Cody. Yeah.
00:55:49
Speaker
All right, and that wraps up our listener mail for this episode. All right, Shane, hit us with some closing thoughts and we'll get out of here. We're actually going to make our hour time webinar set when we set it out. Closing thoughts are if you do decide to go to haunted houses this year, go in a group, be safe, and use your best judgment. If it's out in the middle of the woods, in the middle of nowhere, and a lighted sign appears to tell you to go there, probably don't go there. There's no Yelp reviews. Yeah, there's no Yelp reviews. Don't go there.
00:56:15
Speaker
Alright, thanks guys.
