National Championship and Super Bowl Contenders

00:00:14
Speaker
What is up goal line listeners? And then there were four, we got a national championship game in the mix and we're down to four teams left fighting for the super bowl. We're going to cover everything, but first Jordan, what is going on? Not too much, man. Just a coming down off the, the weekend that was the divisional round weekend paired with a college football national championship. It, it really doesn't get much better than that, but It's all downhill from here, man. I am not yeah like I, this is just like the doldrums for me. We get into the, the week after divisional round. It's just sad at this point. Cause you know, you're down to the last three football games of the year.
00:00:52
Speaker
Yeah, as fun as the championship is, I do think that the divisional weekend for my money is like the the best weekend of football, man. You down to eight teams. The all the the frauds have been eliminated. um And you know it showed itself this week, man. Pretty much all four games were were super compelling in their own way.

Weather and Youth Positivity

00:01:10
Speaker
um What's the weather looking like in your place, man? It's been absolutely absolutely arctic here, at least by West Tennessee standards. We've been down in like 10, 11 degrees in the morning for one about three or four days straight now. Yeah, it's freezing here. We haven't got any snow yet this year though, which is surprising considering all the Southern US s is getting hammered with snow this year. Even, I mean, today it's snowing in New Orleans. Like when the hell has that ever happened? So, um, but yeah, it's been freezing. They actually canceled school today cause it was negative nine this morning and they just don't want kids standing out by the bus and stuff like that. So yeah, it's, yeah. And then, you know, if paul more refresh you
00:01:45
Speaker
Uh, when it gets real cold, just cause you know, most of the school buses don't got heat and we're pretty rural, dude. So some of these kids are on that bus for 40 minutes in the morning. So yeah, I know I just see some people on Facebook complaining, you know, like, Oh, they never canceled snow when I was a kid. It's like, well, dude, tough shit, man. You got there and said that cold for an hour and a half before you go sit in boring at school all day. Yeah. When we were kids, they also let us eat fucking dirt and play with toys that had lead painting them. And look how we all turned out. So yeah, like I'm all for, um, doing all this stuff for our kids now.
00:02:14
Speaker
You know, I'm actually pro that not to get too far of a like divergence before we get into the football talk. I'm i'm really pro like the youth of America nowadays. Cause like I, you know, being in the military, I see the 18 and 19 year old kids coming in and dude, they're super smart and like, you know, they want to work in like really positive man. And like, you know, I hear people like, Oh, so much better in our days. We were like way tougher. And I tell people like, dude,
00:02:36
Speaker
It seems like we were way tougher and things were better because the only people that are around to talk about are the ones that survived. I think about how many kids just got like, you know, mowed down by a freaking pickup truck when they were out riding their bikes all over all day long, you know, with like no parent supervision, all that kind of shit, man. So like,
00:02:51
Speaker
I don't know, man. I don't think things are as bad off for the kids today as as people make it out to me. No, I agree. I think this is good for our kids and stuff like that. I do think there are certain things that our kids should still be doing, but yeah, like riding down a main street on your bike is probably not the safest thing ever.
00:03:09
Speaker
I mean, dude, it's so funny to me because like my, my mom especially was like, yeah as a kid, I thought she was like super overprotective. But then the other thing about some of the bike rides we'd go into, like we would literally ride our bikes like into town to go to 7-11 and get slurpees and like ride back along the highway.
00:03:25
Speaker
yeah you know with one one handlebar and the other one with you know a 32 ounce freaking big gulp full of Slurpee, man, yeah ah heading home. And it's just like, dude, I couldn't imagine it. you'd You'd have to pay me, it'd have to be for like a million dollars for me for me to let Brett go do that, man. Yeah, dude. We had a shop close probably six to eight blocks from our house and it was off of two main streets and my mom would let me ride my bike there. And I mean, there'd be times I'd go by myself and it's like,
00:03:52
Speaker
God damn dude, there's no fucking way. And I thought the exact same thing. I always thought my mom was like on my ass about like, Hey, shouldn't be out till this time and stuff. And I'm like thinking, man, my mom, let me stay out to like nine 30, 10 o'clock on a week. And now I'm like, Zoe, absolutely not come inside at seven. and Yeah. it It's wild how like this, the kind of the standards of what's acceptable has changed yeah over the years, but enough of that, let's get to the grid art, man. You ready to talk some football? Let's do it.

Ohio State vs. Notre Dame Championship Recap

00:04:26
Speaker
All right, let's start with the game last night. Um, Ohio state is our national champion. They beat Notre Dame by 11 points. All in all, dude, I thought this game was better than I thought it was going to be. It had blow out potential at the beginning of the third quarter, but it actually turned out to be a pretty good game. I mean, it was a one possession game with two and a half minutes left. So I don't know how much more you could ask for this. I thought Notre Dame was out manned in this game and They gave everything they had and yeah, dude, still don't understand how Ohio State lost to Michigan. Just absolutely baffling to me.
00:05:00
Speaker
Yeah, I respect an Notre Dame. Like I said, I was kind of, after the first half, I thought it was pretty much over, man. I was also watching Monday Night Raw. I was kind of tuned out and kept an eye on the game though. And they ended up making a hell of a fourth quarter out of it. Dude, honestly, man, a couple of plays go different. We may be talking about a huge upset in Notre Dame winning, you know, that field goal that doinked off. ye ah That hurt because that kind of changed up some of the momentum. And I think it would have put it some added pressure on Ohio state when they got the ball back at the end to ah to close the game out.
00:05:27
Speaker
and i thought no today made a real big tactical air going on the straight up you know cover zero suicide blitz on that third down i get it bring the pressure but to me. You already saw a man it seemed like that whole fourth quarter like the invisible hands were kind of their wrap around ohio states players and the coaching staff and they're really tight i think if they just wanna play to regular.
00:05:47
Speaker
Uh, you know, softer zone defense. I think Ohio state would have been more than happy to, to, to throw a short check down and then you rally and make the tackle. And at least you give your offense a shot, man. i don' I don't think there was a reason to, to, to do that and put your corners in that, that, you know,
00:06:02
Speaker
that situation where you're covering the best wide receiver in college football, one on one down the field, man. So I didn't, I didn't love the call. I get it. You know, bring pressure, maybe force them into a bad play, but it just seemed like an unnecessary risk. All right there. So I really didn't like that call. And I feel like if they do something different, yeah and you never know what could happen on that last drive, man. Riley Leonard is definitely clutch.
00:06:23
Speaker
I think they lulled Notre Dame to sleep with the last, with the previous like six plays. Cause they just yeah kept doing Will Howard sneaks. It was, it almost seemed like all, all Ohio state was trying to do was just run the clock out. Like they were not trying to do anything special. So I get it in a sense, like, Hey, blitz him. If he does run, we're going to get him right away.
00:06:43
Speaker
That is not what happened. The other play, the fake punt that they did when it was fourth and two is just absolutely baffling. Like, dude, just leave your offense out there at that point. I and just, I don't understand when these coaches get so cute. Like everybody was already suspecting the possibility of a fake punt. I mean, he did hit the guy, he just dropped it, but it's like,
00:07:04
Speaker
I just don't want it. The risk was too high for the reward. They're like, just keep your offense on the field. You were moving the ball decently. I just, and then they gave them the bowl at the 30 and Ohio state kicks a field goal to make it an 11 point game or 17 point game at that time. Excuse me. Uh, maybe it was 19. Yeah. I think it was 19 because they were up 16. So yeah. It's just, I don't know, man, the the risk to me at that point was not worth the reward. I just, I felt like leaving your offense out there was the best thing they could have done. But yeah, hats off to Notre Dame, man. I just, I seriously thought Ohio State was just going to pummel them last night. And in the second quarter, that's exactly what I thought was coming. But yeah, they played it till the end.

NIL's Impact on College Football

00:07:43
Speaker
It was a good game, but
00:07:45
Speaker
Yeah, Ohio State, they paid for the best roster and it won them a national title. So if that's going to prove anything to you, it's that this NIL era is here to stay. And if you're going to pay for your roster, it's going to probably work.
00:07:57
Speaker
Yeah, we were texting about that last night, man. I think there is this season, especially we'll see if this was a one off or this is the new normal to me, it feels like this is going to be the new standard. I think it's a huge paradigm shift in college football where teams don't have the pressure of going wire to wire, you know, perfect. Like it's always been in years past, even really with the 14 playoff, you had a little bit of margin for error.
00:08:19
Speaker
but not much. Now it's going to be just get to the playoff, no get to the playoff and then made the best team, made the best team win, man. You know, the thing about last year, dude, Georgia was probably the best team in college football last year. Didn't get a chance to compete for the national championship. Ohio state, say what you want. Were they the best team all season? Hell no. But when it got to the playoffs, they left no doubt.
00:08:39
Speaker
man. There's absolutely no doubt of that 12 team playoff field, Ohio state, even last night's close game with standing, they were pretty damn dominant and they had a tough path, man, Tennessee, Oregon, Texas, Notre Dame. It's hard to chart a tougher course through the playoffs and they did it and made it look relatively easy. Um, so yeah, it's gonna, this is fundamentally changed in the way that, you know, we're going to see college football seasons play out. It's going to be as as long as you're one of those 12 teams, you know, who knows what could happen once, once the playoffs kick off. Yeah, I feel like Ohio state beat the four best teams in the playoff. Honestly, like having to go through Tennessee, say whatever you want about them starting a freshman quarterback and it being at Ohio state, still an extremely tough game for Ohio state's boy going and playing Oregon after a bye week at the Rose bowl. I mean, again, extremely tough. And then playing Texas, like Texas outside of the two losses to Georgia. I mean, a lot of times during the season, they looked like the best football team and.
00:09:34
Speaker
say what you will about Notre Dame, but yeah, they lost in Northern Illinois, but they left no doubt in any other game they played. So I don't know, man, it's tough to imagine a harder road than Ohio State just played to be completely honest with you. I know Georgia definitely not the same without their quarterback. So I just, I didn't feel like them in the playoff was, was as strong as it usually is. Cause they had a backup quarterback in. So I don't know, man, I do think NIL is going to change everything. I mean, we're back to back seasons with a big 10 national champion. Like it's, I think it definitely has changed things. And we're back to back seasons with no sec team playing in the final game. So I don't know, man. I think, I think this is here to stay. And I just think it's going to continue. And me and Seth were talking about last night, the, the days of Georgia and Alabama just stacking all this talent. It's gone. These these kids are going to get paid by somebody and they're going to get to play like,
00:10:27
Speaker
It used to be you just go to Georgia, Alabama and win a national title and then maybe transfer. But I just think those days are gone now, man. like They're offering these kids a million dollars. Some of these kids, they're never going to play football again after college. A million dollars is a lot of money.
00:10:41
Speaker
do you have before we put a bow on the 2024 season, man, what's your early pick for a, or do you got a couple early favorites for national champion next year, Texas?

Future Championship Predictions

00:10:52
Speaker
100%. That's what I was thinking, man. Dude. I think them starting assuming arch manning is this quarterback, I just That team is going to be absolutely loaded next year, and I just don't see a way. I think Ohio State's probably going to lose um quite a bit this offseason, but I'm sure they'll still be around there. But I just feel like Texas is going to be extremely dominant next year.
00:11:14
Speaker
Yeah, Tennessee's losing a lot, man. I feel like Tennessee may be taking a he half step back next season before really gearing up for Nico's junior year, man. We'll see how it goes though. let's look I think Texas. While we're on this, land I'm going to look at what the the favorites for next year as of right now are while you're I think Oregon's going to be back in the mix too, man. I'm still a fan of their coach. They could not have been happy at all with how that season ended. So I think they're they're going to be attacking this off season. you know Phil Knight wants to see Oregon win a national championship before he dies, man. So I don't think there will be no no no expense spared for them to put their best foot forward to
00:11:51
Speaker
to make it back to the national championship game. All right. So your top 10 favorites as of right now, Ohio State is the favorite. Texas is second. Georgia, Oregon, Penn State, Alabama, Notre Dame, Clemson, Tennessee, and LSU.
00:12:04
Speaker
Yeah, I'm thinking, uh, I'm throwing Texas and Oregon and my name's ahead. I know I'm not breaking any new ground or going on on any kind of limb there, but I think that's the two to me andll and I'll be really surprised if Texas isn't, uh, that the preseason, number one, when we start seeing those polls come out, was a way close to the next season. I agree with you. I think Penn state's going to be really good next year too, though. They're going to bring drew Aller back, which I still have my.
00:12:27
Speaker
reservations about him, but that's a good team. They are going to lose Abdul Carter, which is going to be a big deal, but still should be a good team next year. All right. What do we got for ah the NFL?
00:12:39
Speaker
All right. So let's start with the first game chiefs Texans. I'm not going to dwell too much on the ref thing. We've already talked about this. So, I mean, there's, there's no reason to keep bringing this up. It just, it is where it is at this point. Um, I, I just feel like the Texans did not play well enough offensively in the second half and it just, it cost them. They couldn't block. It's just,
00:13:01
Speaker
It turned into a design from the refs. Yeah. Refs didn't help things, but they, they shot themselves in the foot a lot, man. Offense. Yeah. the ah The O line was just in fits basically the entire fourth quarter, especially, but really a whole second half and special teams too, man, between the the kicking game and the coverage team didn't have a great day there. I think those two things kill them. The defense played a good game there. I know Texas defense played a good game and you know,
00:13:23
Speaker
Texas has none to be ashamed of. There's no no shame in going to Arrowhead and and losing a hard fought game to in the season. But um yeah I think the good thing for te the Texans, man, as ugly as this season was at times, there's still so much just kind of natural room for improvement for them. And they still made it to the final eight back to back seasons, man. So you know if you if if that's what a letdown year looks like, making to the the the divisional round, you know I think the arrow is still pointing up for them in the future, even though they probably fell a little bit short of what some of the the highest fixed expectations were of this preseason. And their their window is far from closing. like Dude, they got so many guys on rookie contracts and they're going to get tanked down and digs back next year. like This team's going to be dangerous in the future. and yeah I thought as much as we like started ripping on CJ shroud, like, uh, middle to the end of the year, I honestly thought he played really well at the end of the year. i had played pretty gay man And the other thing is the AFC South, I don't see those other three teams. I don't see any quick turnarounds. So they should still be able to stack up wins, man. If they, if they can improve a little bit, I think they're going to be a serious contender to get the one or two seed where that way you're looking at that divisional round being played in Houston. Yeah. You know, like there's that this team, I don't, I don't necessarily think they're going to be the best AFC team next season, but they could totally have the best record, man. You know, one of the best record or second best record in the conference is right there for them. If they just handle their business a little bit better, man, they, they lost some, some, uh, you know, games they really shouldn't have during the regular season. Yeah. I think they're going to be fine. I still think they got the right coach. They got the right quarterback. Will Anderson is an absolute monster. That is going to win defensive player of the year at some point in his career. he's
00:14:59
Speaker
and They just have a really solid young team. And I feel like yeah though I think they're going to take a step forward next year. Like the sophomore slump was real for CJ Stroud for three quarters of the season. But like I said, he bounced back really well and played well in the playoffs. So I'm going to give them benefit of the doubt

NFL Team Performances and Surprises

00:15:16
Speaker
chiefs. I mean,
00:15:18
Speaker
What more can you say, dude? They just keep rolling along. The offense still does not look good. I mean, it's not good. I don't think anybody's going to argue that point. Their defense is tough as nails, but their offense is just barely doing enough to get by. I i just don't know. It's so weird to watch this team play, dude, that their offense has never looked as shaky as it looks now.
00:15:39
Speaker
Somebody said, Patrick Mahomes is basically having Tom Brady's career in reverse, how Brady started off, um you know, being a game manager and then grew into just spectacular, you know, numbers machine as he got later in his career. Whereas Mahomes was putting up all the crazy numbers early and now he's just, you know, the greatest game manager of all time. It's weird, dude. It's just such a weird team to watch, but they keep winning. So, I mean, until they start losing, there's nothing to panic about.
00:16:06
Speaker
ah Night game on Saturday night, just a complete stunner to me. um Commanders just blew the Lions off the face of the earth in Detroit. I did not see that coming. I thought this would be a good game for a while and I just thought Detroit would separate at the end. Jared Goff just played absolutely awful and Jay Daniels just continues to play perfect football, dude. He just, he doesn't play, he makes no mistakes. He protects the ball.
00:16:33
Speaker
Dude, this has gotta to be one of the greatest rookie quarterback seasons ever, if not already, the greatest rookie quarterback season ever. I i mean, seriously, they're in the conference finals. Who had them here?
00:16:45
Speaker
I think if the individual performance, there's a couple of people you can make a case for Cam Newton's rookie year was insane. Um, RG threes was really, really good. But I think the performance combined with the on field success of his team, like, yeah, dude, I think it's, I think it's there now, man. I think he's a, I think his best rookie quarterback season we've ever seen.
00:17:06
Speaker
and Everything that me and you said before this season, I went back and I listened to our commander's preview. the The signings that they made were not sexy signings. Jayden Daniels just didn't know what he was going to have. yeah You said it numerous times this season and we didn't know if he was going to make it through the season. Dan Quinn, just the the brotherhood thing and all that stuff wears off.
00:17:28
Speaker
Everything we said was completely wrong. like it just yeah we were totally i mean we We weren't even close to right on this team. And say whatever you want to say, dude. that Their defense shut the Lions down. I mean, they had Jared Goff just five turnovers, man. Five turnovers. The thing for me, and I feel like we need to talk about the Lions because I feel like they're in a little bit of trouble at this point. Um, they lost Ben Johnson to the bears. Um, that's not good. They're going to run out a lot of these rookie contracts too. That's why their window was open is cause they had so many guys on rookie deals. Also, dude, why the fuck did they continue to bring Montgomery back into the game when Gibbs is just absolutely going off? Like he has one really good play and they take him right out and bring in Montgomery. I just,
00:18:15
Speaker
I mean they started on Gumrie dude like I get if you want to start him just to give him the honor of being the start and run him back let him get a couple carries but yeah that was it you know Dave Montgomery is a good player but he's out there on a boom wheel man like hats off to him for doing what he can to get back you know and help his team out but yeah you know if you took half the carries they gave him and just gave him the Gibbs dude maybe that's enough to swing the game I mean, Gibbs is like a top four running back at this point. Like I, like, what, what I mean, him be John and sake one, like I'm not going to put Derek Henry there just cause his age. He's had an he had an incredible season, but I mean, if you're starting a team with a running back, it's one of those three guys.
00:18:51
Speaker
Yeah, a little bit of a bad game plan from the lines, man. They didn't get it. Should've fed Gibbs more. The defense, you know they lost their starting quarterback. I think it was first or second play of the game, breaks his arm. It seemed like that was part of the plan, but that was really the straw that broke the camel's back for this defense, man. We know this defense is absolute freaking mass unit at this point with all the injuries, man, held together with duct tape and bubble gum.
00:19:14
Speaker
and it you know It felt like that was just one injury too much because the defense just turned into, you know, it was just a wide open spaces, man, all night for Washington. And like as bad as the offense was, they still put up 31 points. yeah Like the office had far from its withs best game. They still dropped 31 points, man, nine times out of 10. That should be enough to win you a playoff game.
00:19:37
Speaker
but the defense couldn't stop anybody they want to pick six on top of it and then five turnovers man like i really think the lines honestly beat themselves man if you take away half those turnovers um maybe make some tweaks to the game plan i think they win this game still even with all the injuries but this it was just a complete failure man is I think players coaches everybody's got a little piece of the blame pie on this one man Jared Goff I'm still not convinced he didn't have a concussion after he got absolutely rocked on that pick six uh because he was shaky the rest of the game not that he was great beforehand but he was really really shaky afterwards
00:20:09
Speaker
Um, where are you at on golf, man? Like i I think they're pretty much stuck, you know, even besides just from the contract, I think just kind of emotionally and from a team builder standpoint, I don't think they can move on from him, dude. Like what's what's, what's your temperature on golf after, after that performance? my um Here's my problem with him. Like that wasn't the only time this season that we saw him just be a turnover machine. I mean, they should have lost that Texans game. like I just, weird it's like, it's like you it's like, you know, he's most of the time he's pretty dang good. Like I'd say he's a pretty dang good quarterback, not great, but pretty dang good most of the time. But you just know, like working around, like, you know, if the season's a bunch of like, you know, you put each game in a box, there's like two or three of those mystery boxes where you take the lid off and it's like, bam, four interceptions. You know what I mean? And you just never know when the one of those games are going to hit. I just don't know. Like dude, moving forward, like,
00:21:02
Speaker
I don't know, man. I have weird feelings about this team. I feel like their Superbowl window was, was like wide open these last two seasons. dude I just, I don't know what the outlook is heading into next year. I mean, they're going to still open, but it feels like the windows on the way down. You know what I mean? Some of their offensive linemen are getting older. Like that was their, that was their claim to fame. And you could see the cracks in it starting at the end of the season this year, they started golf started getting pressured a lot more. Um, they'd miss some blocks on runs. Like, I mean, the offensive line outside of Panay soul, soul is getting older at this point. So I don't know, man. I still feel like they have one more really good season in them, but losing Ben Johnson is not going to help. Like, and I'm guessing they're going to lose Aaron Glenn too. So
00:21:47
Speaker
We'll see, man. I just, I don't, I don't know. I got weird feelings. It's just absolutely gut wrenching to blow that one seed because it's so valuable now. 15 and two season. yeah Since they went to the new format where only one team gets to buy, it's just such an advantage over everybody else. I mean, you literally, you win two home games and you're in the playoffs, man. um And yeah, like you said, all that success this season, just down the tubes, just like that.
00:22:12
Speaker
yeah dude And like there's nothing like you can even take away from this season at this point like Everybody started making a Super Bowl or bust man I mean in a Super Bowl everybody started making excuses this week about their defense and It's like dude. They've been playing with that same mass unit defense all year like Everybody knew this was gonna be a thing they had to outscore They just had to score a shitload of points on offense to win and like you said they scored 31 but problem is when you don't ever get off the field on defense like it don't matter what your offense does I just I don't know, man. I got mixed feelings about this team. Now granted, they can all come back healthy next year and and be a top 10 defense. and You just don't know. And year to year and it feels weird. So I don't know. Yeah. Call me crazy, man. I think if you play that game 10 times, I think the Lions win six or seven of them. They just had a really shitty night, man, on Saturday night and and Washington to their credit, they were more than ready to pounce on every mistake that Detroit made.
00:23:06
Speaker
i also I think they need to ban doing interviews during playoffs if it's a playoff. No, I'm dead serious. This happens every fucking year, dude. It seems like because I'm sorry, man, that was the worst game plan I think Ben Johnson's ever had going into a game like I just I just don't get what they were doing in that game, man. I.
00:23:27
Speaker
I don't know. Maybe just hold off on hiring until after the season's over. That way it's fair. Because you don't want to penalize the coaches and coordinators on the teams, man. maybe i just put ah you know Trump put a hiring freeze on the entire government. Let's put a hiring freeze on coaching staffs until two weeks after the season. I don't know. Yeah, maybe you lose a few weeks on getting prepped, but that doesn't seem like... I don't think the shitty team should be rewarded for missing the playoffs and getting to go ahead and grab their head coach early. yeah dude like Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn, all they did last week was interview for jobs. And I know everybody says, oh, we're going to make it so it's not a distraction. It is a distraction. like What do you think was going through Ben Johnson's head? like I'm about to be a head coach. like Yeah, and you can't be mad at those guys. I mean, there's 32 of these jobs in the entire world. You take them. Yeah, it could be ah an amount of money that's absolutely you know going to set your grandkids up for life off of one contract if you play it right. so I'm with you, dude. Can't be mad at them. Yeah, I agree, though. Broken process.
00:24:19
Speaker
Like dude, the new, they always say the new year starts the day after the Superbowl. That should be to me when you can start interviewing coaches. Like it don't matter if it's a coach on a current team, a former coach to me, you should not be able to interview a coach until after the playoffs are over. Like just make it a hundred percent fair for everybody. It's just a ah uniform thing. You can start interviewing coaches that Superbowl Monday and just, just go from there. I just, I think it's such a bullshit for these teams, dude. And the Falcons went through it.
00:24:47
Speaker
like almost all their coordinators were interviewing for coaching jobs while they're on their Super Bowl run. And I told you at the time, I fucking hated that. And then they just announced that Kyle Shanahan was the coach and waiting for the Niners. And I'm like, dude, it's just at what point is it just it's too much and too distracting for the team that's still playing, you know? I mean, just think, dude, all those players are used to having Ben Johnson as their coordinator. And this shit starts coming out. And it's like they know he's probably leaving for a job no matter what, you know?
00:25:17
Speaker
I don't know. I just, say I think it's fucked up. Yeah, definitely some room for improvement on that process. Before we move on from this game, we do got to give a salute to Jamison Williams for one of the best touchdown celebrations of the year. I think it was the best of, it was one of the best of 2025 and possibly the best playoff touchdown celebration of all time. right after that hour hump on the ground Somebody tweeted that and that son is how Phillip Rivers made 12 kids.
00:25:41
Speaker
I mean, he gets this electric freakin' reverse touchdown run, does the flip into the end zone, then immediately just power strokes, dude, onto the ground, man. Just air hooking extraordinary. How much do you think he gets fined for that? I don't know, man. It seemed like everybody kind of laughed it off, dude. I thought it was all in good fun, man. well We'll see what the fine actually ends up coming out to be. think there what The ball wasn't there either. If it would if the ball would have been underneath them, I think maybe that puts it over the edge, dude. But it was just straight air, man. I thought it was hilarious. Yeah, I loved it, dude.
00:26:12
Speaker
All right, let's ah move on to Sunday.

Memorable Snow Game: Eagles vs. Rams

00:26:14
Speaker
ah First game, Eagles and Rams, just an absolute snowball. Like that, that's exactly what this turned into. It's absolutely beautiful to watch for the viewer. Can't imagine having to play ah one of the biggest games of the year in that, but... um That was awesome, dude. You got two two great teams with absolute studs on both sides of the ball.
00:26:35
Speaker
both teams have absolutely gorgeous jerseys, man. Like, yeah, it it was just like, it was just a beautiful game, dude. I thought both teams played their heart out and, you know, shout out to Matt Stafford. He mounted one hell of a comeback, dude. If, you know, he said he's going to take some time and ponder if that's how he goes out. No shame, man. That's a hell of a way to go out, man. Going down swinging against probably the best team in the NFC, man. I thought, you know,
00:26:59
Speaker
ah Rams obviously could have done a couple things here. They're different. And I think maybe they come out on top, but I don't really got any problem with the way they played, man. I thought that was just too bad ass teams going at it. Yeah, it was a, it was a great game and say Quan dude with every carry just makes the giants look dumber and dumber as a franchise. Just every carry, if I was a giants fan, every time he ran the ball, I'd just put my head down. see I just because it's like, you know, on the one hand, if I got to rationalize as a giant fan, I'm like, well, you know, he was never going to do anything like that on this team. But also it's like, dude, you guys had this guy for five years. How did you guys not see what you had in gear the entire offense around him? Because they never used him like this. They were still even in the Daniel Jones, they were you know, a little bit of a great option.
00:27:43
Speaker
and more of a passing team be like pro style, dropback passes seem like they always wanted to lean on the passing game as opposed to just going to a ground-based attack with Saquon, man. it's It's been a joy to watch, dude. Yeah, it's got to make you absolutely sick, man, seeing just how far behind you are. You know, you're seeing two division rivals play in the conference championship. One's got one of the best young quarterbacks we've seen in forever. And the other one has got, you know, the guy that was in your building for five years who suddenly looking like he's one of the three or four best players in football, regardless of position.
00:28:14
Speaker
You know, it's, it's wild. He was with the giants for six years. The 2020 COVID season is the season he got hurt, but he was with them for six years. His first season, he had 2000 all purpose yards. And then after that, I mean, he really never got close to that again. He got 1,600 and 2022, but dude, this guy is just,
00:28:37
Speaker
I don't even know what to say at this point, man, 438 or sorry, 324 yards in his first two games of the Eagles in the playoffs. That brings him to 2329 rushing yards on the season. Just, um I mean, what are you even supposed to say about this dude anymore? He's just unreal.
00:28:55
Speaker
potential home run here. Every time he gets the ball, man, he's got the defense on the seals. Like he could score anytime he gets the ball. That's such a weapon to have at at the running back position. I'm not going to lie. I'm a little bit nervous about Jalen hurts. He took way too many hits even after he had the knee problem on set on Sunday. Why the hell they kept rolling him out of the pocket when he's got a clear knee brace and he's limping just weird game plan again, dude, just turn around, hand it off. Say one, that's what you have them for.
00:29:23
Speaker
Yeah, it's weird to me. He was well below 100% for sure. All right, let's go to the nightcap. Exactly what we expected to be and exactly what it was. This was the best game of the weekend and it delivered. Bill's Ravens, Bill's win by two points, just unreal game.
00:29:43
Speaker
um man, I just dude Ravens future moving forward. I just, I don't know what to think about this team anymore. I thought this was the season they were going to do it. They're going to be back, man. I don't see a Ravens going anywhere, dude. I think i know obviously Derek Henry's got to take ah at least half a step back at some point, but I think it's going to be, I think it's just a matter of everything to line it up for You just got to start having doubts about whether or not this team's going to win in the playoffs. Like it just seems like every year they find a new way of blowing it. I mean, Mark Andrews hadn't fumbled in like since 2019 fumbles. It's just like the bad luck Ravens at this point. and
00:30:21
Speaker
And he had, he's one of the most sure handed receivers in the league and he had two huge drops, man. You know, he had, everybody's pay attention to that, that two point conversion that he dropped, but dude, he dropped a pass that would have put them around the five yard line in the first half and the very next play, Lamar Jackson fumbles, man. Like so, I mean, yeah, like again, dude, he's one of the absolute cornerstones of of this team's run. They've had the last five, six years, but he, it's hard. yeah I mean, it's impossible not to just be furious with him, dude. Cause those three plays absolutely changed the course of this game.
00:30:49
Speaker
Yeah, and I know everybody just points out everything one more does wrong. the The fumble, I don't know, dude, I don't know what to think about that play. the The snap was absolutely garbage and he was just panicked at that point. I i mean, he definitely shouldn't have dropped the ball again, but it is what it is. And then the pick was just an awful read. but I mean, dude, he played well enough for them to win. Like I just I feel bad for him. And he's at a point now it's it's he's a victim of his own success because he's at the point until he wins. He's like where Peyton Manning was in his career until he gets it done. Anything short of a Super Bowl is going to be a failure. And the blame is going to go on him, man. He he definitely didn't have his best game, but I still feel like he's pretty far down the list as far as, you know, when you start handing out the blame for for why the Ravens fell short. du he had He played a hell of a fourth quarter.
00:31:36
Speaker
Bill's had a hell of a game plan though. It's just, they just decided they were not going to throw the ball very much just when they needed to. And they were just going to run the whole game and it worked, man. When you got a weapon like Josh Allen as your quarterback that can run that much and just an absolute load to bring down. I mean, it worked like they just rotated running backs and they just kept running the ball. So great game plan from them. They played well enough on defense and they advanced to the AFC championship game again. So yeah, going to be interesting, but That's really it from the weekend. My only other note was the Bears hired Ben Johnson, which we already talked about. So yeah, knew it was coming. We'll see how it works out, man. I still, you know, as long as I've been watching football, Chicago's offense has sucked in. It's, you know, they they spent the first round draft pick on the QB or the number one draft pick on the QB last year. Now they got the hot offensive coordinator coming in. So we'll see, but I'm still skeptical. Yeah. All right. You're going to get to our conference championship previews. Let's do it.
00:32:44
Speaker
so first off we have the and NFC championship. This is an NFC East battle between the commanders and the Eagles. I'll give you a quick recap. So during the regular season, the commanders beat them, you know, December 22nd, just a couple weeks ago. 36-33 game down to the wire. Do you got to mention that Jalen Hurts did not, did he miss that whole game or did he miss most of that game?
00:33:08
Speaker
yeah I think that's the game that he got hurt in was the Philadelphia or the commander's name Yeah, missed a big portion of it and then the Eagles beat him in a pretty hard-fought game on Thursday night football 26 to 18 a Couple back this was back in November This was a game that was 10 to 10 going into the fourth quarter and then just had a little bit of a or excuse me it was 6 to 10 Commanders were winning and there was just an explosion of points there in the fourth quarter. So Pretty evenly matched going off those two, you man. I'll take your thoughts on this one first, dude. Yeah, dude, this is an interesting game. I'm honestly surprised that the spread is what it is. like I feel like this is a little bit disrespectful to the commanders at this point. I mean, like what else do they got to do? They they went down to Tampa Bay and beat the Bucks. and
00:33:53
Speaker
I don't know anybody that had them win in that game. And then they went into Detroit in a game that I don't know very many people that had them win in that game and they just destroyed Detroit. I just, I don't know, man. I guess I'm kind of through doubting this team. I do think the Eagles are the better overall team, but that Jalen hurts knee injury gives me a little bit of cause for concern. And I just,
00:34:15
Speaker
I don't know, man. Ever since that AJ Brown thing that came up, what was that like week 14? I just, I feel like the Eagles offense is not on the same clip anymore. It's just sometimes you forget how many weapons they have because they can't get them involved. Saquon is an absolute machine. You know, he's going to get his. So like, that's already a for foregone conclusion. You're not stopping him.
00:34:37
Speaker
but i I feel like if Jalen hurts has to throw the ball enough. Like I just don't like their offense. You know what I mean? I just, ah how much do you trust Jalen hurts? But then on the other side, how much do you trust a rookie quarterback in his first ever championship game? So this is a tough one. Um, I'm going to go Eagles to win. I do think it's closer than the six points. I think this comes down to the very end and a field goal. I think the Eagles win by, uh, less than six.
00:35:06
Speaker
It's going to be 38 and cloudy, so weather shouldn't be too much of a factor. Dude, I'm going with commanders, man. For all the same reasons you said, I really don't feel any... I feel the exact same way about this game you do. I just feel like the commander is going to make one or two plays, and if it's close, man, I'm... I'm trusting Jayden Dennis come through in the clutch. He's done it all season long I don't see any reason why he would stop in a conference championship game also believer in Dan Quinn I think he's gonna cook up a solid game plan to at least keep Barkley contained because like you said you're not stopping him But you could contain him um And I think the commanders are gonna do it, man I think we're gonna see her rookie take his team to the Super Bowl dude it it wouldn't surprise me at all I mean everything that I just said it's just I
00:35:46
Speaker
i don't know man I guess I'm just trusting the team that, that has done it more than the team that hasn't. yeah You know what I mean? Like, and I think it's going to be a coin flip game. i think it I still feel like the Eagles defense is obviously better than what they showed on Sunday. But then again, a lot of that could have been the snow and the shitty field, like DBs can't break on balls when, when it's snowing like that. So the weather won't be a factor this weekend. I just, I feel like it's going to be close. And I just trust the Eagles defense a little bit more. Good offense to man. I got the defense played. I like their defense 22 points Obviously you want to you'd like to have it a little bit lower than that man But I thought I was pretty impressed with those defense. They were making plays when they had to yeah, they're good Alright, so Jordan's on the Eagles. I'm on the commanders. Let's get her the main event man This has been really then a lot of ways like the defining rivalry of the last five years in the NFL and And we're seeing in the in the in the AFC championship once again in Kansas City Bills at Chiefs now, I'll go first on this one man I think with all the the shenanigans we saw from Patrick Mahomes on Saturday and just some of the other just absolute bullshit calls to the point where Troy Aikman is like actively calling out the rest man I wouldn't be surprised if somebody from the league, you know hit up Fox and hey, I've got a cool it on that man Even Troy Aikman who's cool calm and collected as it gets
00:37:02
Speaker
is going off on the refs about the calls, man. He starts complaining about it. I think that the bullshit is going to be at an all time low, man. i I think if it's anything close, man, I don't think the Chiefs are going to get those same borderline calls, man. And I think it's going to be another razor thin game, just like the NFC Championship.
00:37:19
Speaker
But I think without getting any little, you know, magic dust sprinkled on from the refs, I think the Bills are going to find a way to do just enough um to beat these guys. You know, they beat them by two scores earlier in the season. I thought they I thought they handled their business against them. Of course, that was in Buffalo in regular season. So this is a different beast. But I think it's the year, man. And I know I'm going to feel stupid when we come back on next week and we're like, hey, yep, Chiefs are back in the Super Bowl. But as of Tuesday afternoon, man, I feel like it's time.

AFC Championship Preview and Betting Insights

00:37:46
Speaker
And I think the Bills are going to get it done this year.
00:37:51
Speaker
I want the bills to win this game. And the line gives me like, it just the the lines only two, which is just so fucking weird, dude. The Chiefs lost one game where they played all their starters, and it was the bills game. And granted, it seems like the bills always get them during the regular season. And then for whatever reason, something just doesn't go their way in the playoffs.
00:38:17
Speaker
ah Dude, I really do want them. I mean, if Diggs catches that deep ball last year, they probably beat the Chiefs last season. did like I know. That's what I mean. Something goes wrong every year for them to not win. I'm going to go Chiefs just because I...
00:38:31
Speaker
I don't know, man. Just it just feels like a foregone conclusion that the Chiefs are going to see. No shame. Like I said, da you're you're never going to feel bad about picking the Chiefs. Oh, no, I feel bad. I fucking hate that. yeah just I just do you feel me when I'm saying that, dude, that I think with all the chatter kind of getting to know it's been around all season, but I feel like it really hit a crescendo after Saturday, man. I feel like whatever I feel, it you know, whatever that conversation is behind closed doors, I think it's going to be like, hey, guys, watch out for any of the the foolishness man, because they're not going to want to have that be the NFL's so sensitive to this stuff. And they're not going to want that to be the talking point for two weeks heading into the Super Bowl.
00:39:07
Speaker
And the, the Bill's linebackers, Matt Milano has always done a decent job against Kelsey and he is 100% slower than he was last year. Like that 49 yard catch where he did not get to the end zone, dude, I feel like two years ago, Travis Kelsey house is that fucking thing. Like he's like, he's like old man basketball at the YMCA, dude. He's getting by on technique and smarts, man. if yeah You're right. If he had an ounce of athleticism left, he scores on that play. Yeah. I just, I don't know, man.
00:39:36
Speaker
I feel like this is definitely the most vulnerable this team has ever been. But again, dude, they have Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes. like I don't know. They weren't that much better off last year and they went into Baltimore and beat the MVP Lamar Jackson. and and I thought Baltimore last year was like the best team that they had played on all their Super Bowl runs. All right, so we've seen the Chiefs be putting in more you know uncomfortable positions and somehow make it out of there, man. So yeah, it like again, the great thing is, man, I don't think we're looking at any crazy underdogs or nothing, man. I think both these games could totally go either way. And I'm expecting both of them to be really, really close hard fought battles. I agree. It should be an absolutely amazing day of football. Yeah, I'm excited for it. All right, you ready to hit our bets? so Let's do it. OK, OK, OK.
00:40:33
Speaker
Alright, so me and Jordan both struck out last week, man. I took the lead though because Jordan put some heavy wagers up, man. Right now I'm sitting at $2,257,000 while Jordan's sitting at $2,107,000, but I got an absolute whopper of a bet, man. I'm going bigger, going home. It's the end of the season, so we really got to We really got to make it count, man. I am throwing down $500,000 to potentially win 204 million. All right. by yeah I got an eight pick parlay. You ready for this, Jordan? I'm ready. So I'm taking the under in both games, man.
00:41:11
Speaker
Coincidentally enough, the under for both games, the total for both games is 47.5. I think weather's going to be cold. I think both of these, um, I think both these games are going to be unders, man. So I think it's going to be too low scoring games, too cold, classic playoff football games. Um, but I'm taking the under for both. All right.
00:41:29
Speaker
And then, let me get it back pulled up. I'm taking the bills plus one and a half, and I'm taking the commanders plus six. So I'm taking both underdogs. Jack King's had it at one and a half when I locked this in. Yeah, you're good. That's a screenshot to Jordan. Yeah, you're good. So yeah, I guess I should go back and change it to two now, but I don't want to change these numbers. I like that $204 million number, obviously. So yeah, I got commanders plus six and bills plus one and a half. So I'm on both dogs.
00:41:58
Speaker
And then I have four, count them four, anytime touchdowns, man. I think the stars are going to come out and play. I think we're going to see touchdowns from Saquon Barkley, scary, Terry Maclaurin, Travis Kelsey, and Josh Allen. I think those four players score. So I got four touchdowns, both thunders, bills, and commanders with the spread. And that's $500,000 to win 204 million. Absolutely insane.
00:42:25
Speaker
All right, I did a big bet as well. I'm just doing four legs. I'm going Saquon Barkley touchdown, Travis Kelsey touchdown, James Cook touchdown and Saquon plus 90 plus yards rushing. I'm going to throw 750 K down and it will pay out 6,337,500. Okay. That's it. You're not taking any winners? No.
00:42:51
Speaker
I didn't take any winners last weekend. Dude, ah do you realize? I don't know if you remember what my bets were, but I seriously took Josh Allen and Lamar both to throw two touchdowns. I did not realize Josh Allen wasn't going to throw the ball at all in that game and scored rushing touchdowns. Like Lamar got his. And then in the other game, I took Travis Kelsey to score and Mahomes to throw two touchdowns. Like, dude, what the fuck? Like what has happened to the NFL? Nobody throws touchdown passes anymore.
00:43:21
Speaker
it's it It's the year of the running back, man. I'm just. All right, that's a wrap for this the final four episode of the goal line. We'll be back next week, most likely Monday to give you guys our our early Super Bowl preview. Next Monday will probably be a light episode, man. We'll do a little early Super Bowl preview. The week after, we'll do our actual Super Bowl picks, and that's when we'll be giving out the goal line year-end awards for us. One thing slightly different from the NFL. Ours are mostly based off regular season, but the playoffs can have a little bit of of a factor on um who gets the awards. And then obviously we'll do our Super Bowl recap before we head into our off season schedule. So that's a wrap for us. Uh, Jordan, his was some closing thoughts, man. We'll get out of here. I have no closing thoughts. We're, we're down to three football games left. Like why, why did the NFL and college football just have to end at the exact same time and give me all the sads at once? I just can't take any more of this. I'm just going to start drinking again.
