Stranger Things Theme Announcement

00:00:27
Speaker
Today we're heading to the upside down. The theme is Stranger Things.
00:00:33
Speaker
Which is perfect timing too. With season five currently unfolding, we're right in the gap between part one and part two.

Origins of Stranger Things and Montauk Project

00:01:01
Speaker
Now for our fun fact of the day. Did you know that the original working title for Stranger Things wasn't actually Stranger Things? It was Montauk, named after a real conspiracy theory that inspired the Duffer Brothers.
00:01:17
Speaker
The Montauk Project Conspiracy Theory came about in the 1980s and centers on alleged secret government experiments at Camp Hero, a former military base in Montauk, New York.
00:01:29
Speaker
According to the theory, these experiments included mind control, psychological warfare, time travel, and even interdimensional travel. Just like Hawkins' lab in Stranger Things, Conspiracy theorists claim there were underground facilities at Camp Hero where these experiments took place.
00:01:49
Speaker
The theory gained traction through an engineer named Preston Nichols, who published a series of books claiming he had recovered repressed memories of working on these secret projects.
00:02:02
Speaker
The conspiracy theory alleges that children were involved in these experiments, similar to Eleven and the other test subjects in the show. According to Believers, the government supposedly recruited runaways or kidnapped children to use as test subjects.
00:02:18
Speaker
There's no credible evidence supporting any of these Montauk Project claims. Camp Hero was a real military installation that closed in 1982 and later reopened as a state park in 2002.
00:02:32
Speaker
During its closure, underground structures and materials were removed, which some people thought was suspicious, but that does seem to be standard decommissioning procedure rather than evidence of covering up secret experiments.

Ice Cream or Journalism? Scoops Ahoy vs. Hawkins Post

00:02:47
Speaker
All right, let's jump into a quick round of this or that based on today's theme.
00:02:55
Speaker
This or that? Summer jobs. Would you rather work at Scoops Ahoy with Steve and Robin or at the Hawkins Post with Nancy and Jonathan?
00:03:06
Speaker
I think I would say Scoops Ahoy. First of all, I love Steven Robin. They're some of my favorite characters. um And I just don't see working for the men and at the Hawkins Post. So I'd have to go with Scoops Ahoy.
00:03:19
Speaker
What about you? Yeah, they were horrible men, but they got they got what was coming to them. Yeah, they did. um I mean, as nice as like unlimited ice cream sounds, and i do think it would be fun working with Steven Robin. I think I'd have to go with the Hawkins Post with Nancy and Jonathan. I think that would be fun to go investigate mysterious things and maybe not, you know, be in the office with those guys. but Yeah. The job itself sounds fun. Yes.

Vecna vs. Billy: Who to Avoid?

00:03:49
Speaker
Okay. This or that. Villains. Who would you less want to encounter in a dark alley? Vecna or Billy? think I'd have to go with Billy. He scared me a little bit more.
00:04:02
Speaker
Like I definitely wouldn't want to be driving around with Billy, but I don't know. And Vecna, I kind of related to him a little bit in his monologue. Like I was kind of like, I was nodding my head a lot during his little monologue. Okay, this is a tough one for me. i don't know.
00:04:19
Speaker
I think I'd less want to encounter Vecna, to be honest. I think he's a little more powerful and dangerous. true And I mean, Billy did kind of end up a hero a little bit at the end. He kind of saved 11.
00:04:34
Speaker
All right, let's get into the trivia questions. All right, let's go.

00:10:00
Speaker
And that would be Steve Harrington's swimming pool. That was one of the saddest deaths, I would say, in Stranger Things. I was pulling for bob Barb. I know. Well, no, speaking of Bob, i thought i i kind of thought Bob was the sadder death, though, because oh that was sad like he actually helped. It's But R.I.P. Barb.

00:11:20
Speaker
Was it A. Enzo's, B. Mimo's, or C. Stefano's?
00:11:27
Speaker
And the answer is Enzo's. And I don't know if you noticed, but season five, part one. Robin tells her girlfriend she's going to take her to Enzo's and then has to cancel on her. So I'm wondering if this is some sort of foreshadowing maybe robin meets some sort of end that hopper had in that season i don't know storyline but i would love to see everyone have like a happily ever after meal at enzo's at the end of this season that would be nice we'll see i did see an interview that they were happy with the ending yes i've heard that everyone's happy with all the characters endings but yeah don't know that's promising that makes me feel better
00:12:09
Speaker
Yeah, but there will be deaths. We know. i know. There will be some disappointment. Yeah. Okay. Question number six.
00:12:19
Speaker
In season three, which 1984 movie theme song did Dustin sing with his long distance girlfriend over radio? The answer is they sang the theme song to the never ending story, which I also sing along with. It was a beautiful duet. It was. Have you heard a lot of the Stranger Things cast can actually sing?
00:12:42
Speaker
Oh, really? I didn't know that. Joe Keery, who plays Steve Harrington, is in a band. Mike is in a band. No way. Apparently, I don't know if Nancy can sing, but a lot of the others can sing. Eleven? Millie Bobby Brown?
00:12:55
Speaker
Yep. Wow. Maybe they'll do a musical spinoff or something. I know. They should. All right, question number seven. What is the name of the high school basketball team that Lucas plays on in season four?

00:13:33
Speaker
His name was Argyle, and I wonder if we'll see him in season five. like kind of i liked his character.
00:13:42
Speaker
Alright, question number nine. What song did Eddie Munson play on his guitar to distract the Demo Bats in The Upside Down at the end of season four? Was it A, Raining Blood by Slayer, B, Master of Puppets by Metallica, or C, Run to the Hills by Iron Maiden?
00:14:02
Speaker
And the answer is he played Master of Puppets by Metallica. Question number 10. Holly gave the nickname Camazots to the world where she and Max were trapped, which was inspired by which book she was reading.
