Speaker: Our Buy Me A Coffee link is in the show notes. Now for our fun fact of the day. Let's talk about the origins of some popular phrases that include the word down. You probably know that the phrase down for the count comes from boxing, but when you say you're going to double down on something, do you know what game that phrase comes from?
Speaker: That would be blackjack. And the phrase down to the wire, got any guesses on where that came from? That one refers to horse racing. Back in the late 1800s, racetracks actually had a wire stretched across the finish line above the track. It helped judges determine the winner when races were super close, literally coming down to the wire.
Speaker: And one more. Did you know that Down in the Dumps goes way back to Shakespeare's time? He used a similar phrase in The Taming of the Shrew, where Baptista asks Catherine, why, how now, daughter Catherine, in your dumps?
Speaker: And dumps doesn't mean trash like we might think, or maybe that's just me. I don't know. I do too. It actually comes from the Dutch word dump, meaning haze or dullness. So it's suggesting a foggy, cloudy mental state, not a trashy one, which that all makes sense to me now.
Speaker: All right. Let's jump into a quick round of this or that based on today's theme.
Speaker: Okay, this or that. Taylor Swift songs. You Need to Calm Down or Down Bad. I gotta go You Need to Calm Down.

Speaker: Okay. Every time I think of Free Fallen, I think of the movie Jerry Maguire. you remember that scene? ye Which it's a great song, but I think I have to go with Won't Back Down. e i agree with you. i like Won't Back Down. Such a good song. I love Tone Petty.
Speaker: i do too. He has so many good songs. I know. i was going to say, he doesn't have any bad songs. Like I would listen to anything he's made. true All right. Let's get into our down themed trivia questions.
