Origins of Coffee

00:00:49
Speaker
Now for our fun fact of the day. Do you know which country is said to be the birthplace of coffee?
00:00:57
Speaker
That would be Ethiopia. Legend has it that coffee was discovered in the 9th century by a goat herder in Ethiopia. Apparently, the goat herder noticed his goats dancing and acting silly after they ate some red berries from an unknown shrub.
00:01:13
Speaker
He tried them himself and noticed he had a huge burst of energy. He brought them to the monks and they soaked the berries in hot water. They found the taste to be delicious and the drink helped them stay awake during long nights of prayer.
00:01:28
Speaker
Yes, and although we call them coffee beans, they're actually a seed within a berry.

Breakfast Debates

00:01:35
Speaker
All right, let's jump into a quick round of this or that based on today's theme.
00:01:41
Speaker
This or that sweet and savory breakfast dishes, a Monte Cristo sandwich or chicken and waffles. Ooh, chicken and waffles, baby.
00:01:52
Speaker
yep I had a phase this fall where I wanted to make it every weekend too. The spicy maple syrup. Oh my God. It's so good. Spicy maple syrup? Yes. think I've had that. Lightly fried chicken and waffles. Oh gosh. It's so good.
00:02:05
Speaker
What do you do for the spicy in the syrup? It can be anything like Tabasco, Sriracha. You could put like a little cayenne, just anything to give it a little heat. Yeah.

Song Choices Discussion

00:02:15
Speaker
So good. What about you?
00:02:18
Speaker
I might have to try this. um No, chicken and waffles, 100%. Okay, this or that, songs. Biscuits by Kacey Musgraves or Breakfast by Dove Cameron.
00:02:31
Speaker
Okay, I love the message. behind both of these songs. This is kind of tough, but I have to go with Biscuits by Kacey Musgraves. That's been one of my favorites for a long time. I like the message too. Focus on your own life.
00:02:46
Speaker
Don't judge. Be kind. Yeah. Nobody's perfect. Exactly. I really like Dove Cameron's Breakfast though. Okay. And I thought the music video was just such a clever, funny way to show how different society would be if gender roles were reversed.
00:03:00
Speaker
so I mean, it would be different and maybe we'll try it. All right.
