Monthly memberships to support this event can be purchased on my site, here: https://www.inthefamilywaycoaching.com/offering_packages

Today's reading will include the Books of John Chapter 10:25-42 and Luke Chapter 10:38-42.

Today we will read about and answer the question "who is my neighbor?" We will also read about making sure we are prioritizing spending time learning from Jesus every day rather than claiming we are too busy to do so today. And lastly, we will read and discuss that Jesus tells us that He and the Father are ONE. This means that Jesus is also part of God. He is not simply a prophet; He is God's Son, and like He told the leaders of the people, if we have difficulty believing His testimony then we need to look at his deeds - the work He does is done by the power of God. He is not controlled by an evil spirit. Trust the deeds that Jesus has done and then you may come to know and understand that the Father is in Jesus and He is in the Father.

Introduction to the Bible Reading Session

00:00:03
Speaker
Welcome back, everybody. Today is September 14th, and we are here for our daily Bible reading. We are going through the whole Bible this year in chronological order and learning about the big picture of the Bible using the Day by Day Kids Bible, written by Karen Henley.
00:00:21
Speaker
If you are just hearing about this and it is coming up on your YouTube feed, don't be discouraged that it says that it's a kid's Bible. This is actually a pretty complete version of the Bible. It's just written in storybook form and at a level that we can all understand.
00:00:37
Speaker
Every day we will have daily application as to how today's reading can be practical and useful in your life. So stick around if you are new to this event. And if you are not new, thank you for joining me again today, whether you are following along on your podcast or whether you are watching the video.

Speaker
We have some great reading today. i love Jesus' teaching. We are going to be reading about who is our neighbor, as well as learning to put our priorities right.

Mary, Martha, and Prioritizing Jesus

00:01:28
Speaker
Whether it is time to be spending time with God for the most part, or whether we are not spending time with God because we are too busy and we are concerned about too many things.
00:01:41
Speaker
This will be the story of Mary and Martha. We will also be seeing that Jesus is going to be telling us that he is one with the Father.
00:01:52
Speaker
And this is very important. It is very important to remember that Jesus is one with the Father. And some people will say, well, Jesus never claimed to be God. He is not the same as God.
00:02:05
Speaker
And here we have witness testimony that Jesus absolutely did teach us that he is one with the Father. And his life was put at risk, ah but he was, of course, it was not his time.
00:02:19
Speaker
And so we will see how once again, the leaders are not very pleased about he his claim that he and the father are one. So let's begin our reading today.
00:02:29
Speaker
And we are first going to be reading about the neighbor and who our neighbor is.
00:02:38
Speaker
One day there was a man who knew the law and he stood up. He tried to test Jesus. What do I have to do to live forever? What does the law say?
00:02:51
Speaker
Jesus asked. To love the Lord your God with all your heart. Love him with all of your soul, said the man. Love him with all your strength.
00:03:03
Speaker
And love him with all your mind. Love your neighbor as much as you love yourself. You are right, Jesus said. You will live if you do that.

Parable of the Neighbor and Jesus' Teachings

00:03:16
Speaker
But the man wanted to show that what he did was right. So he asked, Well, who is my neighbor? Then Jesus told him a story.
00:03:31
Speaker
There once was a man who was on a trip. and he was going from Jerusalem to Jericho. But robbers jumped out at him, and they took his clothes, and they beat him, and they left.
00:03:43
Speaker
And there the man was, lying by the road, and he was half dead. Soon a priest came down the road, and he saw the hurt man, but he just moved to the other side of the road, and he just passed by.
00:04:00
Speaker
a man who knew the law came down the road, He saw the hurt man too, but he moved to the other side of the road and he passed by. Then a man from another land came down the road.
00:04:16
Speaker
He was a Samaritan. He saw the hurt man too, but he felt sorry for the hurt man. And the the Samaritan went over to the hurt man and took care of his injuries.
00:04:33
Speaker
Then he put the hurt man on his own donkey, and he took the man to an inn. This is a place with rooms where people could stay, and the man could rest there until his injured places were well.
00:04:49
Speaker
So the next day the Samaritan took out his own money, and he gave some to the person in charge of the inn. Take care of this man, he said, and I will come back and I will pay back what it costs to take care of him.
00:05:05
Speaker
Tell me, asked Jesus, which man was a neighbor? The man who knew the law said, the man who was kind. Right, said Jesus.
00:05:18
Speaker
Now you go and do the same thing.
00:05:23
Speaker
Jesus and his followers now came to a town called Bethany. And there a woman named Martha lived. She said Jesus was welcome to stay at her house.
00:05:34
Speaker
So he did. Now Martha had a sister named Mary. Mary sat down at Jesus' feet and she was listening to what he said. But Martha was thinking.
00:05:48
Speaker
She thought about all the things she had to do, and she wanted things to be just right for Jesus' visit. So at last, Martha came to Jesus.
00:05:59
Speaker
Lord, she said, my sister left me to do all the work by myself. Don't you care? Mary to help me.
00:06:11
Speaker
Martha, Martha, said Jesus, you are upset and you're worried about so many things. There is only one thing that is important right now, and that is what Mary chose to do.
00:06:28
Speaker
She is taking time to be with me, and I will not take that away from her.
00:06:36
Speaker
Now it was winter, and there was a special holiday time in Jerusalem called Hanukkah. Jesus went to celebrate

Jesus' Oneness with the Father

00:06:45
Speaker
Hanukkah, and there was a covered porch called Solomon's Walk at the worship house, and Jesus began walking there.
00:06:54
Speaker
The leaders of God's people came up to Jesus. How long will you make us guess? They asked him. If you are the promised one, then just say so.
00:07:06
Speaker
I told you, said Jesus. You did not believe me. I do wonders in my father's name. And those wonders tell you who i am.
00:07:19
Speaker
But you don't believe me. And that is because you are not my sheep.
00:07:26
Speaker
My sheep listen to me, said Jesus. I know them and they follow me. I give them life that lasts forever and they will never die.
00:07:41
Speaker
Nobody can take them out of my hand and that's because my father gave them to me. He is greater than any anyone or anything. My father and I are one and the same.
00:07:57
Speaker
Now the leaders at God's house began to pick up rocks. They were going to throw the rocks at Jesus. I have done great wonders, said Jesus, and I have done them with my father's power.
00:08:09
Speaker
Which wonder makes you want to throw rocks at me? We are not throwing rocks at you for doing wonders. We are throwing rocks at you because you are just a man, but you are calling yourself God, they said.
00:08:28
Speaker
If I do not do the works of my father, then don't believe in me. But if I do, even if you do not trust me, trust the works.
00:08:40
Speaker
Then you may come to know and continue to understand that the Father is in me, and I am in the Father.
00:08:52
Speaker
Now the leaders tried to catch Jesus again, but he got away, and he went back across the Jordan River. And that's where John had baptized people.
00:09:02
Speaker
And now Jesus stayed there. Many people came to see him there. And many people said that John never did a wonder, but everything he said about Jesus is true.
00:09:17
Speaker
And many people believed in Jesus.
00:09:24
Speaker
That was a great reading today. I love how Jesus is revealing himself to us. I love how he is building on what we have learned and that he is giving us more information and building, teaching us more while incorporating the same things of what he's already taught us.
00:09:43
Speaker
Yesterday, he taught us that he is the good shepherd and that his sheep know his voice and he knows his sheep and he calls us by name.
00:09:54
Speaker
And we talked about the fact that we would read today that there are people who don't listen and don't believe Jesus. And Jesus tells us that that is because they are not his sheep.
00:10:08
Speaker
Jesus was telling the ah leaders today that his works that he was doing were done because God had given him the power to do them. And they were good works.
00:10:21
Speaker
So he was not being controlled by an evil spirit. He was doing the work with the Holy Spirit. And he was telling the the leaders today that even if they didn't believe his words, that to look at what he was doing, to look at his fruit, basically, is what he was telling them.
00:10:42
Speaker
And when they see his fruit, what he is doing, to believe what he was doing, and then they might come to understand that he was in the Father and the Father is in him.
00:10:57
Speaker
And that they would then be saved. That is a very important thing. We need to remember that it is true that God is in Jesus and Jesus is in God.

Reflecting on Spiritual Priorities and Faith

00:11:10
Speaker
They are one in each other. So Jesus is God. There are people who will teach that Jesus never said that he was God. And that is not accurate.
00:11:23
Speaker
You know, I was actually driving up the freeway yesterday and I saw a billboard that says, Jesus is not the son of God. He never claimed to be God. And I was like, what the heck is that all about?
00:11:34
Speaker
And I couldn't read which ah organization was making that claim. I have no idea. But um I just was and like, they spent a lot of money, you know, putting up a billboard.
00:11:46
Speaker
and claiming that Jesus is not the Son of God, and he is the Son of God. He is one with the Father, and he did say that he is one with God, and they are the same.
00:11:59
Speaker
Jesus told us previously also that before Abraham was born, he was born, and he was with God in the beginning. And we talked about that. So this is building upon our faith in Jesus.
00:12:15
Speaker
We are learning who Jesus is. And the more we learn about who Jesus is, the more trustworthy what he is saying and teaching becomes.
00:12:26
Speaker
And we can see based on his fruit, just like he taught us that we are will also be known by our fruit. Weeds don't bear good fruit. And bad trees don't bear good fruit.
00:12:39
Speaker
He is our good shepherd. And nobody forced him to lay down his life for us, he told us yesterday. He chose to do so. And it's also important, let's switch now and talk about Mary and Martha.
00:12:54
Speaker
Now, Martha was very concerned. She wanted everything to be just right for Jesus' visit. And that sounds like, what is wrong with that? Well, it was more important to be learning from Jesus and hearing what he had to say.
00:13:10
Speaker
and in our own daily lives, even today, we can become so busy and so consumed with the things that we need to do that we don't take the time to spend time with Jesus and learn from him.
00:13:26
Speaker
We need to remember that that is the most important thing we can do with our time at any point in any day. We need to make sure that we are not becoming so busy that we are not making time and making him not just some time, but making our time with Jesus and with God the most important time of our day.
00:13:49
Speaker
We need to make him the most important part of our day because Jesus has taught us that we are to seek first God's kingdom. Everything else will take care of itself.
00:14:01
Speaker
We don't need to worry about all of these different things. Like Jesus told Martha today, he said, you are worried and about so many things. Today, are we worried about too many things?
00:14:14
Speaker
And it is taking us away from making God the most important part of our day. We need to remember that Jesus taught us that nobody adds even a minute to their life by worrying.
00:14:27
Speaker
We don't need to be worried. We may say, ah well, I'm not worried about things. I just have a lot to do. Well, we need to make sure that when we are doing everything, that those things can go left undone because we need to make sure that the most important the time we are spending is time at Jesus's feet.
00:14:48
Speaker
Learning from him. That is the most important thing we should do every day. That, along with the fact that Jesus and God are one in each other, is our daily application today.
00:15:03
Speaker
So I hope that you feel that God has lit your light and that you are encouraged to make sure that we are making God and Jesus the most important ones in our lives. And that we remember that Jesus absolutely one.
00:15:17
Speaker
God's son. He was sent by God and he was with God in the beginning and he is one with the father.
