Today's reading will cover the Book of John Chapter 9.
Today we will read about God allowing some things to happen in our lives for the purpose of God being able to show us His power. We will also read about the Pharisees seeing Jesus' good works and yet refusing to believe that He was sent by God, instead insisting that He was a sinner.
In our discussion for daily application we will be encouraged to ask God to show us His power so that we may glorify Him when we are going through difficult times. We have been learning this year that we need to have faith in God and trust Him, knowing that He works good into EVERYTHING that happens in our lives, no matter how "bad" it can seem to be. And as we read today, sometimes things are allowed to happen for the sole purpose that we may be able to come to God and He can show us His power, that we might be witnesses to His power and then share with others what we have had the privilege of seeing God do.
We will also discuss the fact that there will be people in our lives that even though they may see God do wonderful things in our lives they may still never choose to believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that He saves them from their sin, and unfortunately, as Jesus tells us today, that means that they will remain in their sin. God does give us that choice, even though He would prefer that no one make that choice, but that all may come to Him and believe. People who met Jesus and saw Him with their own eyes chose not to believe in Him, so even today there will be people who just choose not to believe. We need to remember not to take it personally, because Jesus tells us that really, those people are not rejecting or hating US, they are actually rejecting and hating HIM and GOD. Just be faithful, brothers and sisters, and be God's witness. It isn't your responsibility to try and force people to believe. There will be those who no matter what will see without really seeing and hear without understanding.

I'm so glad that God is feeding you this year. And I have the privilege of reading to you God's word. I'm just so excited. Yesterday's reading was amazing. And today we're going to see that despite how amazing God is, there will always be those people in our lives that no matter what, they just cannot accept the fact that God has sent his son to save the world.

They may not even accept the fact that there is a God at all. In today's reading, the people will at least be accepting that there is a God, but that's insufficient now. Just believing that there is a God does not qualify people for salvation.

Once upon a time, having faith in God and doing his will was sufficient, knowing that even then they had to atone for their sins with their sacrifices. But now we have paid. Jesus has paid the price for our so ah sins. He's paid the ultimate price in his blood shed for our benefit is now what we need to believe in that he is God's son.

And today we are going to be seeing that sometimes even seeing is not believing. And unfortunately, that is a fact. And Jesus will teach us today that they will people who choose not to see, who are made blind, that they will die in their sin.
Biblical Story: Jesus Heals the Blind Man

and that the fact that they claim that to be able to see and yet they don't acknowledge this existence for the son of god they will die in their sin so let's open up our bible today we are going to be reading the book of john chapter 9 today the whole chapter And ah I'm going to be including in our at the very end, our version does not include the very last section of what Jesus spoke in that chapter.

So I will be reading that from our big Bible as well. Okay, are you ready? Here we go. So this was after Jesus had left, after they were wanting to stone him.

And it says, as Jesus' followers asked, he came to a man who couldn't see and he had been that way since he was born jesus' followers asked andtc did he did his mother and father And Jesus replied, It's not because of anyone's sin.

It happens so that God can show his power. I have to do God's work while it's day. Night will be coming and then nobody can work.

And while I am here, I am the light of the world. Then Jesus spit on the dirt and made some mud, and he put it on the man's eyes.

Go, said Jesus to the man, and wash the mud off in the pool of Shalom. So the man went to the pool, and he washed the mud off, and when he came back, he could see.

Now, how could this happen? People were used to looking at this man who couldn't see, and they used to watch him begging, but now he could see. and the people said to each other, Isn't this the same man?

He used to not be able to see, and he used to sit and beg. And some people said, Yes, this was the same man, but other people said, No, he just looks like that man.

But the man said, I am that man. But how can you see now, they asked him. And the man named Jesus made some mud, he said.

Jesus put that mud on my eyes and then he told me to go to the pool of Shalom and wash it off. So I did and then could see. Where is Jesus, they asked him.

don't know, said the man. And then the people took the man to the leaders of the worship house and that's because this was a worship day. Jesus healed the man on a worship day. We already know what kind of trouble that brings, don't we?

So the leaders asked the man how he could see. and he told them, he said, a man put mud on my eyes and then you I washed it off and now I can see. Now some of the leaders were angry about this.

The man who did this can't be from God because he is not obeying the law of the worship day. And other leaders said, he's not from God.

Well, then how could he do such a wonder? So the leaders did not agree with one another. And at last they turned to the man who couldn't see before.

What do you have to say about this man? It was your eyes that he made well. I think he's a prophet, said the man. Now the leaders still could not believe it.

A man couldn't see before and now he could see. the leaders called for the man's mother and father to come in. Is this your son? They asked them.

How could he see? Could he see when he was born? How could he see now? The man's mother and father were afraid of the leaders and that's because the leaders had made a new rule.

The new rule said that people couldn't call Jesus the promised one because if they did, then they would be kicked out of the town's worship house. His mother and father said, we do know he is our son and we do know he could not see when he was born and we do not know how he can see now and we do not know who made him well.

You will have to ask him. He's old enough and he can speak for himself. So the leaders called that man in again, and who had been made well, and they said, "'Tell us the truth.

We know that the man who made you well is a sinner.'" "'I don't know if this man is a sinner or not,' said the man. "'I do know one thing, though.

I could not see before, but now I can see.'" "'What did he do to you?' they asked him. "'How did he make you see?' I told you already, said the man, and you didn't listen.

Do you want to hear it again? do you want to follow him too? Then the leaders made fun of the man. You follow the man who made you well, they said.

We follow Moses. We know God spoke to Moses, but we don't even know where this man comes from. Well, that's funny, said the man.

You don't know where that man comes from, but he made me well. And we know God doesn't listen to sinners. God only listens to people who do what he says.

Whoever heard of someone making a person see? This man had to come from God. If he didn't, he couldn't have made my eyes well.

so You were a sinner when you were born, they said. How dare you tell us what is right and what's wrong? Then they kicked him out.

Now Jesus heard what had happened, so he looked for the man and he found him. Jesus asked the man, do you believe in God's son?

Who is he? The man asked. Tell me so I can believe in him. You have already seen him, said Jesus. He is the one talking to you right now.

Lord, said the man, I do believe. And he worshipped Jesus.

Now, Jesus said to man, Now, some of the Pharisees who were with him heard him say this and asked him, And Jesus replied to may see and the ones who do see become blind ah some of the pharisees who were with him heard him say this and asked him well we're not blind too are we and jesus replied to them if blind you would have no sin But now you say, we

And that is the end of our reading today.

Boy, I do love when when Jesus ah gives them the truth, don't you? i love when he stands up for the truth. We also are meant to stand up for Jesus.

If we believe in him, we need to stand up for him and not be afraid to speak up, just like that man did. He said, I love how he said, well, that's funny. You say you don't know who this man comes from and that he's a sinner, but how can he be a sinner if if he's doing God's work? We know God doesn't listen to sinners.

Well, we know what he means is is that he listens to those who obey God, who trust and obey him. And they were accusing Jesus of not trusting and obeying God. And even to this man, he could plainly see it has to be that he comes from God because he is doing God's work. And that's exactly what Jesus had been telling them.

So this man had eyes to see and ears to hear even before, even without being made well. I wanted also to talk about the fact that when some of the things that we have seen when God heals people, ah that they have been made well because they have been forgiven of their sins.

And so sometimes um we have a tendency to think that people are suffering with something because they are ah being Punished by God being disciplined for having sinned.

And so the disciples asked Jesus, why is this man born blind? Meaning what did they, who had a chance to sin that they that he deserved this? And was it because he sinned? Is it because his parents sinned?

And Jesus said, no, this happened so that God's work could be seen. Let's see. How does he put it? He says,

It happened so that God can show His power. So we want to keep in mind that, remember, we've talked about throughout the year, that no matter what, even things that seem bad, God is working good into things.

And so we may not understand why God does things. And in this case, we see that one of the reasons that God can do things and bring things about or allow things to happen are so that we can see his power, so that we can come to him.

Just like Moses told the Israelites when they were traveling, he said, God allowed you to be hungry so that he could feed you. he allowed the people to be spiritually hungry so he could feed them.

They were ready. They were starving. They were ready to be fed. And Jesus came to be our spiritual food. And now we don't have to hunger spiritually. i am always hungry for more of God's word. I can't get enough. I love Jesus' all-you-can-eat buffet, don't you? Yeah.

In today's society of all you can eat buffets, Jesus is the ultimate in all you can eat buffet. he says, you will never go hungry again. But I do like to binge on myself with the God's word.

So I hope you do too. And I always like to say, I hope you are hungry for more of God's word and head up your big Bible. So ah we want to be sure that we look at that as a possibility, that when we are experiencing difficult times, that we ask God to show us how we can see his power.

What does he want to do? What does he want to show us? What does he want us to know so that we can bring glory to God? I love to see God doing amazing things.

And so one of the things i have mentioned previously, but if you're newer, you may not have heard me say this before. So I will say it again, is that I prayed to God and I asked him, I have a genuine desire to see God doing amazing things.

And I guess this is because God created me with the name of witness. I want to see things. And i i told him, I don't just want to see them so that I can... applaud him myself and say, oh, that was entertaining. Show me another one. Let's see another one.

Like the leaders were constantly saying, well, show me a wonder and then we'll believe. I believe and I want to see the many things that God can do because God is awesome. And I want to give God the glory.

i want to share what I see with other people. So it's really funny how I've had that desire. And it's one of those chicken and the egg type things. It's like, well, did I ask for it? So God gave it to me or did he already make me this way?

And then he put that in my spirit that he wanted me to desire this. And so then I ask him for what I want that he wants to already give me. And then he is doing what i he is giving me what he wanted to give me.

I just had to be ready for it. So what about you? What do you have that you that you, what is it that you want or that is a part of you that you really want to do but God has made you that way?

Ask him because he will fulfill that. And it's not for our own glory. It's like what Jesus has been telling us. And it's so that we can bring glory to God. And then when we use that, ah we we are showing people and telling people and being the witness for God of what he does.

And that is what we are called to do is to be witnesses of God. I love that. And to be true disciples, to listen to Jesus. So I want to encourage you and that sometimes there will be those people in our lives that although they may see things over and over, you may tell them over and over about the wonderful things that God is doing.

Sometimes, no matter what, they still will not believe. They are still blind spiritually. And they may think that they can see and they may say, no, that's not God. ah it We can explain that away with science.

And the thing is, is that science is it's not a method. It is the name that we give to the processes of how things work.

And it's as we understand things, we give that study of how things work the name of science. But science is not a thing. We're making it like an idol in that case.

People are turning the word science that is only meant to describe the understanding of how God works certain things together. God has wisdom and he knows how all things work together.

ah There's a a French word for it called Savoir Faire. And it means to know the right thing to do in all situations. And that is God. He knows the right thing. And that is Jesus.

He does everything well. He does everything right. More than just being perfect, he knows the right thing to do in all situations. That is savoir faire.

And that is like what we try to understand is how everything works because we want to do the same things. So ultimately we are looking forward as Jesus' disciples, to do things right and well in all circumstances and in all situations. the way to learn how to do that is through experiencing them.

We can't simply learn about them only by reading. Oh, don't we wish we could? And then when the situations happen, we just... do what we're supposed to do. Well, we have to practice because we have to get over our sinful nature.

We have to go forward and sin no more, like what we learned yesterday. So I just wanted to encourage us in that, that sometimes there will still be people that no matter what, they they're not going to see and understand.

And Jesus told us that this would be the case, that although seeing, they will not see, although hearing, they will not understand.

And no matter how much you show them, sometimes people still just won't believe.

And unfortunately, that means that they will remain in their sin.

So I do want us to also be encouraged as well that this is not your responsibility to force people to see. If they did not see, even when they had Jesus himself standing in front of them, arguing it and telling them what they were seeing, these people simply will not believe.

And remember, when people hate us, Jesus will tell us later that it is not us they hate. It is the one who sent us. They are actually hating Jesus, which means that they are actually hating God.

So don't take it personally. It's not you, it's them. Just remember that. And remember also that sometimes we go through difficult times so that we can um look for God to show us his power so that he may be glorified.

So sometimes instead of being frustrated and saying, why am I going through this? Why is this happening to me? Maybe that's a good time to ask, God, I want to see your glory. I want to see you glorified in this.

Show me your awesomeness. What is it you want me to learn and see from this? Because that's a great place to start when we are experiencing difficult things.

Ask God how we can glorify him because he will be glorified, especially if we are looking for it, he will show us. And it changes our attitude from me, me me to God.

We want to look with every situation as to, okay, Lord, this is really frustrating. i don't like this. i This is hurtful. This is difficult. I don't know what to do about this, but I trust in you, Lord.

Remember, our big thing is that God wants us to have faith in him. We have seen the evidence that whatever happens, God does work good into it. Even this man being born blind was done so that God could be glorified.

And he was glorified. So let's look for ways that God can be glorified in whatever difficult situation we may be going through so that then we can be witnesses to this, just like the man was, and tell others about what we have seen.
