Introduction: Are Harry Potter Movies Holiday Films?

00:00:22
Speaker
Welcome to Peebs's, or sometimes we hold chapter by chapter, page to screen analysis of the Harry Potter series. And sometimes we just have a common room chat. I'm Sarah Day. I'm James. And I'm Meeks. And on today's common room chat, we're going to gab all about whether the movies are Christmas movies or Halloween movies.
00:00:43
Speaker
But first, let's give a spoiler warning because we will be using our vast knowledge of the books and the films to compare the pages to the screen or have a common room chat, which means we may gab about moments that happen anywhere in the series. So you've been warned to go firsties before we begin a message from The Daily Prophet.

Wish you could cast a spell to balance your magical energies? Well, it's time to turn to nature's own potion, Rasa, a super functional coffee alternative. Rasa transforms the way we energize with delicious, adaptogen-packed herbal coffee alternatives.
00:01:28
Speaker
Meegs, you actually sent me some samples for my birthday knowing that I was on this coffee alternative journey in 2024. And it ended up being the favorite of all of the different types I have tried. And I was really excited to learn more about the company. And when I went online to their website, I found that they actually have kind of a sample pack labeled coffee detox. And the reason why I was going on this journey was because I did want to stop drinking so much coffee. I was drinking like three cups a day. And it was really making my anxiety really bad. And I was having really weird
00:02:15
Speaker
dreams, if you have anxiety, you you know where I'm going with this. So I really wanted to stop drinking so much caffeine which um kind of ah makes your anxiety height heightened. um And so I was really grateful to get these samples and learn more about Rasa. I tried the coffee detox and um it was really great and I drink it every morning and Sometimes I'll have a cup of coffee or I'm sorry, a cup of Rasa in the afternoon as well. um and it's I don't have the jitters, I don't have the anxiety. It's a really great coffee alternative.
00:02:53
Speaker
Yeah, I'm so glad that it worked out because I was actually given those samples by somebody else just to test them out. And um some of the flavors just weren't ah my particular flavor profile, but I figured that you would like them. And I knew, like you said, that you were trying to cut out coffee. And so I was like, this is perfect. And so I sent those over to you just kind of to see if you would like them. And I'm so glad that it worked out. It was it was ah really cool how that happened. Yes, thank you so much.

Harry Potter: Christmas or Halloween Movies?

00:05:53
Speaker
Welcome back listeners. So we're going to start with, we're going to go through the movies individually to see if they're a Christmas or Halloween movie. And then we'll talk about the series. Um, like when you binge all eight movies, are you binging them at Halloween or Christmas or both? So, uh, with that said, let's start with the sorcerers or philosopher stone.
00:06:20
Speaker
Okay, how about we do one, two, three, and then we both say, we all three of us say if it's Christmas or Halloween. Okay, one, two, three, Christmas. Christmas. James, you have to say it. I am undecided. like i It's hard because this one feels, this one in particular feels like it could go either way, to be honest. Interesting. Why do you think it would be a Halloween film?
00:06:48
Speaker
Well, i I feel like the Halloween aesthetic is very strong and very like the beginning when you're introducing the world and the music makes it feel Halloween-ish. I keep thinking to that moment where we like walk into the Great Hall. I keep thinking about walking into the Great Hall during the Halloween scene where it's just like the... who Like that kind of...
00:07:16
Speaker
kind of part and like the jack o'lanterns and this the halloween feast and then the troll and just like all of that kind of makes me feel like yeah this is so fun to watch during halloween but i can equally say that about the christmas too because when the christmas scene pops up and it's like the happy is a happy christmas tuney thing and john williams does a really good job of of making it sound but Like it's a Christmas song, and kind of but it's like it's unique to the world of Harry Potter almost and like you have the snow and the Christmas tree and the presents. So I really don't, I can't land with the first movie anywhere because I feel like it could be both, arguably.
00:08:00
Speaker
I hear what you're saying about the Halloween portion um and the troll in the dungeon, but I think like the overall vibe but of the first two films, if I do get ahead of myself here, is was so Christmasy. um like i just I don't know, it just feels like it's just jolly.
00:08:24
Speaker
That's how I feel too. Like i I can hear where you're coming from with it. And I don't disagree that there's such a strong Halloween-y vibe, but yeah, the first two films feel so like charmingly Christmas-y overall. Right. Charming is a really good word as well.
00:08:43
Speaker
Interesting. What word, okay. If you had three words, James, to describe the first film, what would they be?
00:08:53
Speaker
and And try not to have any bias in your ego. That's impossible. You can't not have bias on anything. um ah The first thing that comes to mind is magical.
00:09:09
Speaker
ah But magical in like... How do I describe this magical part? Magical in like a kid magical. like It's kind of like from a kid's point of view, like if that makes sense. Like the magic of Christmas. I mean like the magic of Christmas because like as a little kid like the whole idea of Santa, traveling the world reindeer and all that stuff like that is a very innocent kid magical type of way. um But just like magical in general where it's like just fun
00:09:48
Speaker
fun magic it's not dark magic or like scary magic or anything like that it's just perhaps looking for the word whimsical whimsical is a good way to describe it yeah but it's just that's like the first idea that comes out of it is just like this nice whimsical feeling of the entire magical world of harry potter like it doesn't feel dark in any way and I kind of like that because it does get darker eventually as we grow up and realize that stuff like that happens but yeah it loses that whimsical feel as you get older kind of scenario but like the Sorcerer's Stone just continues to have that no matter how many times you watch it. um The second one I want to go with
00:10:38
Speaker
comedic. I definitely do think the Sorcerer's Stone was more funny than than any of the other films. hu And then the third one was bright.
00:10:52
Speaker
So, well, okay. So whimsical, bright and comedic. Yes. That's how I would describe Sorcerer's Stone from my point of view. And do those also describe Halloween for you?
00:11:04
Speaker
Uh, well, as a person who doesn't normally celebrate Halloween, like another normal, like other normal people, I would say no. Well, there you go. Christmas for the win. Wait, yeah how would you, what would those words apply to Christmas? Well, I can see kind of whimsical for Christmas. Cause like, again, it's the whole like magical Christmas feel from a kid's point of view. Uh, like the reindeer and Santa Claus bringing presents and and all of that other stuff.
00:11:34
Speaker
I don't think you could, well, and maybe you put could put comedic to Christmas somehow in some way, but bright, I guess you could say like bright, bright snow, white, like white can be considered bright sometimes. I'm going to put bright Christmas song. Let's see what pops up. Let me finish writing Christmas song.
00:11:58
Speaker
Shine bright, merry and bright. That's the word. I'm thinking merry and bright is like you always see the Christmas decor, merry and bright. Ah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, I can see. that Okay, so have we swayed you to one side or the other?
00:12:13
Speaker
No, because again, my my feeling is still very strong that I could definitely be a Halloween type of movie to enjoy. Just because after the Christmas stuff, you get to, you know, the Devil's snare, and then you get to the the three headed dog and then ah the giant chess battle that can all be arguably still Halloween in a type of sense, in my opinion.
00:12:39
Speaker
Okay, so Meeks, did James's explanation sway you at all? Are you still very much it's a Christmas movie? I think it's still very much a Christmas movie for me. Me too. So let's go ahead and give Sorcerer's Stone Christmas. And do you kind of have the same argument? Well, James, well, okay, I guess I'm the only one that talked about the second one. So what do you guys think about Chamber of Secrets?
00:13:08
Speaker
See now, the second one I'm not so like strongly opinionated on because there really doesn't feel like a Halloween section in the movie. ah with the With the exception of like the whole Basklist person and trying to kill people and and all that stuff, it is a little bit darker. And the spiders doesn't help a little bit.
00:13:31
Speaker
um It still has that whimsical, bright feeling about it, and it does have a very long Christmas scene in the in the movie that kind of goes, okay, I can see this where i can see this one being more of like a Christmas-type movie.
00:13:51
Speaker
But again, like there's still elements in the movie where it's kind of like, you know, they're in a forest full of spiders. Like that can be very Halloweeny right there. Just ah doesn't have itself.
00:14:01
Speaker
ah um That's a good point. But I see I'm very much the first two are very much Christmas movies to me. Like they're just maybe it's just like memories. I don't know. They just are um like they're just fun and warm.
00:14:21
Speaker
Meeks do you have a vote for Chamber of Secrets? I also view it as a Christmas movie but yeah the whole spiders of it all in the Chamber of Secrets like it definitely does get darker but it still for me has the same overall charming vibe that the Sorcerer's Stone has so I would still kind of gut reaction call it a Christmas movie. Same okay so I think we're all Christmas for this one Yeah, I'll be more Christmas than Halloween because like, it doesn't have a very active Halloween element. Okay. But these two movies make me think, make me think about like the one movie Nightmare Before Christmas, where it's kind of just like, is that a Halloween movie? Or is it a Christmas movie? Like, when this like where are we moving? Like, where are we moving to? that That's to me, that's my mind frame.
00:15:12
Speaker
That movie is the mind frame for these first two movies. For me, is that i just it's so impossible to tell. That's kind of why I'm okay with watching them both both on Halloween and Christmas. For just those two. The others I have clear opinions on, but those two are kind of just my iffy's. But I will lean more towards Christmas on Chamber of Secrets. Okay, so Prisoner of Azkaban.
00:15:39
Speaker
That one's definitely Halloween. Yeah, I agree. Halloween. Yeah, I feel like it's more like Halloween. or Even though it has a Christmas part in it with the with the going to Hogsmeade and the snow and stuff like is definitely Halloween vibes right there. Yeah. OK, so I don't think we have any debate on this one. Let's move on to Goblet of Fire.
00:16:07
Speaker
Okay. i will gets tricky I say, um, Christmas me too. I guess it just goes back to kind of like those warm, fun vibes of the first two.
00:16:20
Speaker
um before like before balti comes back yes sure but it's just like it for all of our dreams and nightmares If you take away like the looming threat that somebody put his name in the Goblet of Fire to kill him it's like a very fun and joyful movie because he's going through the games and um There's, they also added, like they just added more, I think life at Hogwarts. The thing that comes to mind is, um, the boys sitting in the dorm room eating the things that turn them into or make them sound like animals. Um, you know, I can just see like at a boarding school, a bunch of boys sitting around being goofy like that during the holiday break. Wasn't that during prisoner mass command?
00:17:02
Speaker
No, that was definitely Goblet of Fire because I remember Ron and Harry's, well, Dan and Rupert's hair in that scene. Being long. like We can Google it real quick. Because like I could have sworn that it the that the whole Ron being a lion thing was in Prisoner of Azkaban.
00:17:25
Speaker
Oh, you know what? It is, in fact, from the Prisoner of Azkaban. No way. What am I thinking of then? I don't know. Because I thought this was God. Wait, hold on. Yeah. Yeah. It's after the fat lady.
00:17:41
Speaker
It does the singing thing and like she's like, oh, and then breaks the glass and she's like, oh, with all my voice. And then they go into the dorm and then it. um And then Harry like look like Harry's not looking out the window, but like the camera goes out into the window and it's like rainy and dark and.
00:17:57
Speaker
Yes. Yeah. um What am I thinking? ah I'm thinking of something then for Goblet of Fire that's like a similar type of scene. Oh, well, I guess we have to go watch it. Yeah, I don't know, because I was thinking that too. So we'll have to rewatch. But as we continue our discussion of the Goblet of Fire, we will, I'm sure, figure out what that scene was. But regardless. That's two points for Ravenclaw. That is fair. Regardless, I think of Goblet of Fire as a Christmas movie.
00:18:29
Speaker
um I do think you have a point because I feel like the whole like the whole vibe was to keep it joyful before we brought in this like whole dark element into it. And so and then like the whole ah the whole ball, the celestial ball thing is heavily Christmas-sized. So much so that the Quidditch Champions game is going to hold a Yule Ball event.
00:18:56
Speaker
around Christmas. So I definitely do think that Yule Ball is very heavily associated with Christmas. And so that's kind of in Goblet of Fire's favor of making it a Christmas movie, just with that one point.
00:19:13
Speaker
Yeah, you're right. I like, like, yes, the yule ball and having all of that around Christmas and everybody's like staying. I don't know if they talk about it in the movies, but in the books, everybody's staying um at Hogwarts over the break because of the yule ball. Because of the yule ball. Yes. So,
00:19:31
Speaker
um Meegs, did you give an answer for Goblet of Fire? Christmas. Okay, so Goblet of Fire, we're doing Christmas.
00:19:43
Speaker
So, so far we've got Sorcerer's Stone Christmas, Chamber of Secrets Christmas, Prisoner of Azkaban Halloween, Goblet of Fire Christmas, which brings us to the Order of the Phoenix. I'm gonna go Christmas on this one, and it might be my last Christmas of the eight films, but I think I'm giving it a Christmas.
00:20:13
Speaker
Is it because of the Weasley Christmas dinner at Sirius Black's house? Maybe, I don't know, because I think um that's not as prevalent as it is in the book. um But I just think it's the last one that's sort of life at Hogwarts. Like we've got Umbridge, who really brings down the mood a lot, but it's still, like you've got, um on the flip side you have, um not the order of the Phoenix, but Dumbledore's army. And teaching yeah and having that just like fun and all that, the montage that they do of him training. And I think that it's just kind of fun.
00:20:59
Speaker
um
00:21:02
Speaker
And it's not as dark as, like, of course, the Deathly Hollows will get. And I'm trying to think, I think the Half-Blood Prince is the one I've watched the least amount of times. um and But let me know what you guys think. And the Room of Requirements mistletoe moment. Is that in the? That's in order. Is that when they kiss?
00:21:26
Speaker
Yeah, Cho Chang and Harry are in the so chang and harry are in the or in the room of requirement. Everybody's left after a little scheduling thing and then I think they're getting ready to go to like Christmas. This is before Arthur got attacked ah for the Christmas dinner.
00:21:44
Speaker
and the Room of Requirement made mistletoe appear and Cho Chang did the like little silly line of like mistletoe and they do that weird awkward fifth year kiss that teenagers do all the time but um yeah so that's the part that happens in that movie that kind of adds to that Christmas element just a little bit. Looking at the trailer like it's surprising that I would say Christmas because the trailer I'm like oh this is a very dark movie. But from what I think parts of the reason why I lean towards Halloween for order of the Phoenix is because of the thestrals. Yeah, the snake attacking Arthur, the whole dream, like the whole dream thing and having Professor Snape prevent him from preventing Lord Voldemort from getting into Harry's mind.
00:22:38
Speaker
um the battle of the the battle at the ministry. It all kind of just gives Halloween vibes because it's got the Death Eater masks, it's got, yeah ah you know, Umbridge does bring it down. I think Umbridge is a good neutral ground. I don't think, i'm yeah which is crazy to say, but like Umbridge is a good neutral ground in the sense that it's not Christmasy or Halloween in any way. So it They both have a great way of coming in and kind of adding those influences of like that scary Halloween vibe, but at the same time Christmasy vibe with all this with some of the Christmas stuff that happens. But I do lean more towards um Halloween because of the focus on Lord Voldemort's return, the Death Eaters prepping for the Defense Against the Dark Arts.
00:23:30
Speaker
Um, the Thestrals are very Halloween-y in my opinion. Yeah. yeah So it's kind of like that. I could definitely make it a Halloween movie. Meegs, do you have any thoughts on it? um I agree with everything that everybody said because I feel like my instinct is to say Christmas but when you like list out the elements of this movie it's like none of this is bright and cheery but I do feel like maybe because it's the last story before or it's it's starting Harry is starting to demonstrate like the deep anger that he's feeling and because of well because and we know you know because of Voldemort coming back and that's influencing him
00:24:10
Speaker
like physically without him realizing but I think that in this film like he's still like trying to like find that like sense of community and the positivity and like you know, just spending time with the other students at the school kind of think like it's he's kind of like in between. And so I do feel like it it really could go either way. But it does still have an overall vibe of like trying to be a Christmas charming movie. I think that's what I'm Yeah, I think it's like it still tries to pull on that theme that the first two had. And I think it's the last one that displays any of that. I mean, maybe half blood prints because there's
00:24:51
Speaker
It's like the Half-Blood Prince is still very much life at Hogwarts um until the very end, which is kind of like the Order of the Phoenix besides Umbridge. It's very much life at Hogwarts. And then there's the big battle at the end. um I don't know, I'd be willing, let's talk, can we talk about Half-Blood Prince for a little bit? Because I think I'd be willing to give Order Halloween and give Half-Blood Prince Christmas. Not that they have to be even, but.
00:25:18
Speaker
I, I don't know. I want to, I want to talk about half blood prints before I get my final. Well, that means did you, okay. So James, you're definitely saying order is Halloween. Yes. Meigs, you're undecided. I think I'm going to say Christmas. Okay. So let's talk about half blood prints. Cause I think they're similar for me. So I want to, um,
00:25:50
Speaker
Talk about the differences of the two movies. So James, why don't you give me your opinion on Half Blood Prince? So with Half Blood Prince, I leaned a little bit more towards Halloween because I just recently watched the trailer for it. and I didn't I didn't send that. I don't think I sent that one to you guys. I sent the Goblet of Fire one to you guys because like that one's like almost 20 years old.
00:26:16
Speaker
And they were like, whoever posted that trailer was like, wow, this is almost 20 years old. ah But right after that, the Half-Blood Prince came up and I was just like, gosh, dang, this is how they set the Half-Blood Prince for the movie. Like, it no wonder it felt like dark at the time. cause like oh o I'm watching the trailer now as you speak. And I forgot all about the lake people.
00:26:46
Speaker
Yeah, it sets up to be like really dark with the lake and and just like, but at the same time, like, for you know, trying to get the memories from Professor Slughorn and Dumbledore talking about Voldemort and just that more dark vibe. But at the same time, I have to acknowledge that there is a Christmas vibe to it with the whole Ron eating Harry's chocolate cakes that were meant for Harry that fell for the love potion.
00:27:17
Speaker
ah around Christmas time and the Christmas party and and all this other stuff. So there there are elements of Christmas in Half-Blood Prince that could make it still stand as a ah Christmas movie, but I go towards Halloween because of the darker element and what and what it actually ultimately stands for, especially with like the lake. I still barely can watch the lake scene without getting the heebie-jeebies.
00:27:46
Speaker
Uh, but I go towards Halloween for that one too, because of those, those elements in it. Oh, this is, ah she's just getting cursed now. I think, I think Half-Blood Prince is definitely more Halloweeny.
00:28:03
Speaker
then Yeah I feel like Half-Blood Prince's Halloween as well. um I feel like for me it's like a mental turning point especially for Harry because he's our main character and even though like they're still at school and they still have Christmas of course it's the overall vibe of it and like the overall mental state that Harry needs to shift into is all about like the obsession with Draco and finding out what he's doing and they know that Death Eaters are prowling around and like it's just so much more dark and serious and that's reflected in the way that Harry is like obsessively thinking about everything to do with the Dark Lord so I feel like it feels more like. And ah burn it the the burning of the burrow where the Death Eaters go and attack the burrow and they're all in the corn maze and
00:28:50
Speaker
That's like such a Halloween trope, is running into the corn maze and like dealing with murderous people, like goodness gracious.
00:29:01
Speaker
Yeah, I, so I think then, um, so two, I think I'm going to stick with Order of the Phoenix being Christmas. So that's two votes for Christmas for Order of the Phoenix and then Halloween for Half Blood Prince.
00:29:19
Speaker
So that brings us to Deathly Hallows part one and part two, which I think could be, I mean, do we want to rate them individually?
00:29:30
Speaker
I mean, I guess we should if we're talking about the films. Okay. So Deathly Hallows part one.
00:29:44
Speaker
I have a hard time feeling like either of them are Christmas, but there's Christmasy elements. I feel like, like, again, Deathly Hallows, like Harry, Ron and Hermione are trying really hard to do whatever they can to at least help each other feel like a sense of security and There's just obviously they're not there. are They're only able to do it so much. So I feel like overall it's very Halloweeny, but it they do definitely try to have that. And I feel like the second one is all all Halloween. Yeah. And I just actually watched part two, the opening today. And it's like one of the most chilling openings I've seen.
00:30:25
Speaker
when it's like the music is very haunting and then you have Snape standing on the ledge looking down at the students coming and the students are marching into the school and it's just so haunting.
00:30:38
Speaker
um And so I definitely think that Deathly Harto's part two is Halloween. Um, and I think that part one is, is Halloween too. Like I see that there's more comedic relief in the first one. Um, and there's some happy moments with the wedding and, um, but it's part one when Ron runs off, like he he leaves the group for a little bit. Or is that it's been part one, right? Mm-hmm.
00:31:06
Speaker
um And then you know it ends with Dobby passing and um I just think that both Deathly Harlow's parts are are more Halloween than Christmas. I'll ah'll tend to agree, but I do think part one has a more Christmas presence than part two. ah Just because I feel like part one was Trying to set and we'll get to talk about this when we ever get to book seven ah but like part one has that vibe of It's a dark world, but there's a little bit of hope um Because there are times, you know, and I the biggest one that comes to mind is like Godric Hollow when Harry and Hermione go to Godric Hollow because Harry wants to see his
00:32:00
Speaker
his parents' grave and the house that he grew up and that whole thing. It's snowing. It's very Christmasy. It gives that small little vibe, but it's overshadowed by the darkness, which is what gives the Halloween vibe. And then it doesn't help that the fill of the backshot turns into a snake.
00:32:20
Speaker
but um But it's still there. It's not absolutely gone, but you can kind of see the justification of it being a Christmas movie when there's such a small sliver of hope of happiness and merriment down the road when they take care of ah take care of Voldemort, ultimately. So I really do think that part one lands more on the hopeful side, which would be more of a Christmassy side.
00:32:54
Speaker
But part two lands more on the horribleness and the Halloween side and fulfills that quota. But you can see both sides in in of the coin kind of thing. But overall, I do think they're both Halloween movies.
00:33:15
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, ah the movies that feel like Christmas ah Harry Potter movies to binge um are like the first few. Usually it's not like I'm craving to watch Half-Blood Prince or Deathly Hallows for like a sweet, lovely, whimsical Christmas vibe. i It's more the nostalgia and the love for the Harry Potter um series overall, that makes it fine for me to watch, you know, during Christmas, but that they're not like, I don't think of those movies necessarily as like, charming Christmas movies. Yeah, totally. So Deathly Hallows one and two Halloween.
00:34:06
Speaker
Yeah, I think that's fair.

Binge-Watching Harry Potter: Holiday Preferences

00:34:11
Speaker
All right, so we did end up with it half and half. Just to recap, Sorcerer of Stone Christmas, Chamber of Secrets Christmas, Prisoner of Azkaban Halloween, Goblet of Fire Christmas, Order of the Phoenix Christmas, Half-Blood Prince Halloween. Definitely, Halloween is part one and two, both Halloween. So if we were to binge the series, would we binge it for Halloween or would we binge it for Christmas?
00:34:34
Speaker
I personally would choose Christmas over Halloween, um not because of vibes, but because there's just so much more Halloween films in a shorter amount of time that I would rather watch. um When it comes to the Christmas content, I have more time to get it all done. So I would watch the Harry Potter series with other ah you know standard Christmas and Hallmark films.
00:35:06
Speaker
And I think also, sorry, I think also the feelings that Harry Potter gives me as a series, that's like what I would want over the holidays as opposed to Halloween.
00:35:25
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, that sounds totally fair. i don't I'm not a big Halloween person, which I know Sarah Day, this is like the biggest issue with her friendship. but So there's not many like Halloween movies that I'm ever watching, but I do feel like this is a series where if I had to like pick one for a season to watch more, um you know, like it would be during Christmas.
00:35:52
Speaker
I would have to go Halloween just because I have a ton of movies on Christmas. I like to watch more than I would on Halloween. um And that's really my only justification. Can I see both arguments? I can. And you know, if I feel like watching Harry Potter for its Christmasy elements, I think I will.
00:36:15
Speaker
ah But i I really associate myself more towards the Halloween vibe because I like the idea of the candles and the jack-o'-lanterns. I just watched a bunch of people's shorts those last couple of months of just prepping to watch their, like getting excited for Harry Potter and watching their Harry Potter movies and doing all these like little crafts that they do with Harry Potter and making it Halloween vibed. And I was like, that's pretty cool.
00:36:45
Speaker
um only reason I say that though is because I have a biased judgment towards Halloween in that I don't like the darker stuff of Halloween and so anytime someone makes Halloween more whimsical which is I like that word now I'm going to use it more um anytime they can make Halloween more whimsical and and bright like the the first two Harry Potter movies I think I'm going to lean more towards that than the the traditional Halloween Uh, things that people do on a consistent basis. I do feel the same about that too. I don't like Halloween and I never have, and I don't like horror or films or TV shows or anything. So anything that's going to make Halloween softer and feel more charming and like the cute side of it, then I'm all about it. I don't like super dark. Like I am a scaredy cat. I can't watch a lot of horror. Um, but like for Halloween, like I do watch.
00:37:45
Speaker
all like the themed stuff. I do watch Hocus Pocus is of course like my top Halloween film. um We do Toy Story of Terror with the kids and sing I think this past year came out with a Halloween themed short. Yeah, um they did. And so I like all that kind of stuff. So I do like the later stuff as well. But um I do lean into the jack like I just I loved I love trick or treating with my kids. I'm so glad that I haven't used to go trick or treating again. dressing up again. I love doing the family costumes. I just love Halloween. I have no that other than explaining my Halloween love. There was no point for this podcast. Which is totally okay.
00:38:32
Speaker
But um yeah, I just think, um again, like when I'm gonna if I'm gonna watch the series, I just feel like for me, it's more It just doesn't fit the Halloween vibes for me. like It's not spooky. There's dark elements, but it's not spooky. It's just more about, like you said earlier, a hope and overcoming the obstacles, and that just feels more Christmasy to me. So my vote's Christmas. Yours is Halloween, James. And me Megan, you said Halloween as well? No Christmas. Oh, yours is Christmas. Okay.
00:39:08
Speaker
so Sorry, James, you got outvoted for the series as a whole. Halloween. No, sorry, Christmas. and But you did get two points to Ravenclaw. You did. I did.
00:39:24
Speaker
All right. Well, any final thoughts on our discussion tonight?
00:39:31
Speaker
Um, I don't think so, but this was fun to like kind of pick it apart like this and see how the elements and the vibes all work together to, you know, create different opinions and stuff. Mm-hmm. It definitely is fun to kind of like think, like see it through other people's eyes too and kind of just go, how does this affect like people on a general scope of things? Cause people, you know, people consume Harry Potter.
00:39:59
Speaker
a lot. There's a lot of people out there that watch these shows and grew up with these movies and stuff and it's just interesting to kind of see their mind frame and how they associate with it and how you know the traditions that they do with Harry Potter and it's kind of fun. The one thing I do want to say though is I'm interested in what Max will do because if Max releases Harry Potter around Halloween then Max is basically saying it's a Halloween themed show.
00:40:27
Speaker
Yeah, it will be interesting to see because these movies, I mean, most of them came out in July, I think. Yeah, they did. I think that was basically it was because the books were releasing in July. ah Her book, JK Rowling released her books around the same time as Harry Potter's birthday, basically.
00:40:47
Speaker
not on Harry Potter's birthday, but the months of. So its explain she had a heavy she had a heavy influence in July. So maybe it will release in July with the first TV show coming out. But um I feel like the movie's emulated the books that way. I wonder when things like Game of Thrones was released, because it's going to be, I think HBO is going to make this their you know hit.
00:41:13
Speaker
show, you know, you have all the other HBO shows, we always have the big one that they really push the Game of Thrones. um And so it'll be interesting to see but just all of the marketing around this show, in particular, how they're going to differentiate it from the films.
00:41:36
Speaker
This
00:41:41
Speaker
It only said it released on Sundays at nine. like doesn' That doesn't help me people. Well, June is coming out right now and it is November. It looks like least they're the they their stuff around the summertime. because House of Dragon premiered in June and concludes in August and then season three will be expected to premiere around summer of 2026.
00:42:09
Speaker
Well, I think they always, because Dune's coming out right now, and that's going to be another big one for them. So I wonder if they just always try to have like a big show. What was what what was the Penguin on? what Does anybody know what service that's on? I think that's Max, because it's DC. That's right. Max owns all of DC properties. So let me see. And that just ended. it So it went from House of Dragon to Penguin to now Dune. Yeah, it's on Max.
00:42:38
Speaker
Yeah, so it probably doesn't matter because you know people are going to watch Max any time of year. It's not like it's going to the films, of going to the movie theaters. Frick, now I have to watch this movie or this TV show. I didn't know that Colin Farrell was Oswald Cobblepot. Have I been living under a rack? Yes, you have.
00:42:59
Speaker
no um Anyway, thanks for causing havoc with us today, listeners.
