Introduction to Daily Bible Reading

00:00:02
Speaker
Hello everybody, today is Wednesday, it's April 23rd, 2025, and you are here with Robin at In the Family Way Coaching, and we're here for our daily Bible reading.
00:00:14
Speaker
We are going to be reading the Bible today as we do every day out of the Day by Day Kids Bible, which has been written by Karen Henley.
00:00:23
Speaker
And if you are following along with your calendar and tracking your commitment, go ahead and get that out and get your sticker ready or however it is you keep track because you're about to hear the Bible today.

Counting the Omer Ritual

00:00:37
Speaker
We are also going to be counting the Omer today. And I'm in a bit of a hurry, so we're gonna get right into that. If you would like to join me in counting the Omer, then go ahead and just repeat after me.
00:00:49
Speaker
First, we have the blessing and then we have the actual counting of the day.
00:00:55
Speaker
Blessed are you, o Lord our God, King of the universe, who has set us apart by your commandments and has commanded us to count the Omer.
00:01:13
Speaker
Today is the third day of the second week and day ten. I have counted the Omer.
00:01:25
Speaker
Thank you so much for joining me as we counted the

Exploring Song of Solomon

00:01:28
Speaker
Omer today. Well, we are in for a bit of a treat. Today we are going to be reading the Song of Solomon. And this has been written by King Solomon, as the title suggests.
00:01:39
Speaker
And this is a loved poem. So before you boys get too discouraged, it is beautiful. And it's actually quite long, but Karen Henley does a beautiful job of giving us just one day of Song of Solomon, and she consolidates it.
00:01:56
Speaker
And she has done a really nice job of it. After reading the Song of Solomon, I was looking up some information on it because I've never done a study of the Song of Solomon.
00:02:09
Speaker
And while I do know a little bit about it, I've never actually sat there and read the whole thing. And I didn't read the whole thing today either. But after reading some perspective on it, there are a couple of ways that it can be interpreted, but God has told me today what we will talk about.
00:02:26
Speaker
And it's funny because he actually prepared my heart for this yesterday. Isn't our Lord amazing? He was preparing me for today yesterday.
00:02:38
Speaker
and love that. So one of the ways that this can be interpreted is that it's a beautiful love song, ah which is just as it's meant to be taken. as a poem, and it's written about a man and his wife.
00:02:52
Speaker
And one, and so it has two speakers. It has the man and the bride. There's the beloved and the and the bride. And so King Solomon would be the beloved and and he and she would be the bride.
00:03:07
Speaker
And it shows us a beautiful example of love between two people. the other and Another way of interpreting it is that this ah has actually been shown for quite a long time to be taken as an example as the love between God and the Jewish people.
00:03:28
Speaker
Now that we have Christ, it has now been interpreted as the love between Christ which is the and his church, which is called the bride. So there many different ways that we can interpret it.
00:03:44
Speaker
I know when I was in high school, we had to read books and then we had to write what we thought the book meant when we read it. And I always hated that because I was like, what do you mean? What does the book mean? It's it's a story. three What do you mean it's supposed to mean something?
00:04:02
Speaker
But that's what we do when we are reading the Bibles. We try to figure out what everything was meant. There is more than just the message there. We have seen that there is application everywhere.
00:04:13
Speaker
And I really struggled with that concept. And so this is the same type of concept that we see with with reading the Song of Solomon. And so I just wanted to put that out there as a bit of a comparison.
00:04:26
Speaker
but we're not going to take either one of those positions today, because God has told me to talk about something else.
00:04:35
Speaker
So here we go, Solomon's Song.

Poetic Language of Love in Song of Solomon

00:04:39
Speaker
And this is entitled, the whole chapter, she is entitled Solomon's Thoughts.
00:04:47
Speaker
The king's bride said, kiss me. Your love is better than wine. Your perfume smells sweet. Your name is sweet, like perfume.
00:04:59
Speaker
It's no wonder that all the girls love you. But take me with you, hurry. King, take me to your room. We are happy with you, said the king's friends.
00:05:10
Speaker
We will praise your love more than we praise wine. I'm dark, like Solomon's tents, said the bride. I am beautiful.
00:05:22
Speaker
Don't keep looking at me because I'm dark. I'm dark because of being in the sun. My brothers were mad at me and they made me work in the fields. I couldn't take care of my own field.
00:05:35
Speaker
Tell me, my love, where you take your sheep? Where do you let them rest at noon? Follow the sheep tracks, said the king. Take your goats to the shepherd's tents.
00:05:48
Speaker
I think you are like a young girl horse. You're like a horse that pulls the king of Egypt's chariot. Your earrings make your face beautiful.
00:05:59
Speaker
Beautiful stones hang on strings around your neck. But we will make gold earrings for you. We will put silver on them.
00:06:11
Speaker
The king was at his table, said the bride. My perfume smells sweet. The one who loves me is like a sweet smell. He is like flowers from the field.
00:06:24
Speaker
You are beautiful, said the king. Your eyes make me think of doves. You are good looking, said his bride. You are fun and nice.
00:06:38
Speaker
Our house is made of cedar wood, said the king. The top part is made for of wood from fir trees. I'm like a rose, said his bride.
00:06:49
Speaker
I'm like a lily from the valley. You are like a lily among the weeds, said the king. That's what you're like among the other girls. You're like an apple tree in the forest, said his bride.
00:07:04
Speaker
That's what you're like among the other young men. It makes me happy to sit in your shade. I like your fruit. It's sweet. You took me to a big dinner party.
00:07:17
Speaker
Your love is like a flag over me. It says, i belong to you. Give me raisins and apples to eat. I need them to be strong because love is making me feel weak.
00:07:33
Speaker
The king puts his arm around me and hugs me. Girls, I tell you this. Don't let your heart love until the right time.
00:07:45
Speaker
Listen, look, here comes the one who loves me. He's coming across the mountains and hills. He makes me think of a deer. Look, now he stands behind the wall.
00:07:58
Speaker
He's looking through the window. The king said, get up my beautiful one. The winter is gone now. It has stopped raining. Flowers are growing all over the earth and it's time to sing.
00:08:13
Speaker
You can hear doves cooing. Fruit is growing on the fig trees. Flowers are growing on the vines. You can smell their sweet smell.
00:08:25
Speaker
So get up, my beautiful one. Come with me. You make me think of a dove, said the king. You're like a dove hiding in the mountains.
00:08:37
Speaker
Let me see your face and hear your voice. Your voice is so sweet. Your face is so beautiful. ah full The king loves me, said his bride.
00:08:53
Speaker
He belongs to me, and I belong to him.
00:08:58
Speaker
Who is coming from the desert? Look, it's King Solomon's cart, and he has 60 fighting men with him. Each one has a sharp sword. King Solomon made his cart from wood.
00:09:12
Speaker
He made its posts out of silver. He made the bottom out of gold. He covered its seat with purple cloth. Come and see, girls.
00:09:23
Speaker
Look at King Solomon. He's wearing the crown. It's the crown his mother put on his head. She gave it to him at his wedding. That's the day joy filled his heart.
00:09:37
Speaker
You are beautiful, said the king. and your eyes make me think of doves. Your hair makes me think of goats coming down the mountain. Your teeth make me think of clean, white sheep.
00:09:52
Speaker
Your lips make me think of a red ribbon. You have a beautiful mouth, and your neck makes me think of a beautiful tower. So come with me, my bride.
00:10:04
Speaker
You stole my heart with one look from your eyes. Your love is wonderful. It's better than wine. You make me think of a garden.
00:10:19
Speaker
You make me think of a fountain in a garden. Wake up, North Wind, said the bride. Come here, South Wind. Blow on my garden and send its sweet smell all around.
00:10:32
Speaker
Bring the one who loves me. Bring the king to his garden. Here I am at my garden, said the king. Eat and drink, said their friends. Drink all you want because you love each other.
00:10:48
Speaker
Oh, bride, how is the one you love better than others? His face seems to shine, said the bride. You would pick him out among 10,000 others.
00:11:02
Speaker
His hair is wavy and as black as a raven. His eyes make me think of doves by the river. And his lips make me think of lilies that smell sweet.
00:11:15
Speaker
His arms make me think of gold. He is very good looking. He loves me. He is my friend. You are beautiful, said the king.
00:11:30
Speaker
When you come, it's like the sun coming up. You are as pretty as the moon. You are as bright as the sun. You are as wonderful as the stars.
00:11:43
Speaker
Love is strong, said his bride. It's like a fire that burns. Water can't put it out. Rivers can't wash it away.
00:11:55
Speaker
No one can buy it.
00:12:00
Speaker
And that's the end of the Song of Solomon today.

Universal Message of Love

00:12:06
Speaker
That was so beautiful. Now, if you're maybe a young man like Jedi or Forrest, maybe that wasn't quite what you were hoping for today. But let me tell you what it's like.
00:12:20
Speaker
God is love. God is the very essence of love. And this song is all about love. How many times did the king tell the bride she was beautiful?
00:12:35
Speaker
many times. I love how it says,
00:12:42
Speaker
no one can buy it.
00:12:46
Speaker
And that's one of the reasons why ah some commentators have expressed that it is like a, ah ah oh, I'm drawing a loss at the word, comparison between Christ and his love for the church, for us, for God's love for us.
00:13:04
Speaker
God is love. Every bit that was spoken was love. And we are told by Paul in the New Testament to speak with love. Let everything you say be with love. And we talked about that a few days ago too, didn't we?
00:13:22
Speaker
but ne Let nothing that is unkind come out of your mouth. Just like the Song of Solomon today, let every word that we speak be of love Let it be sweet and pleasing and good for the ears and and only to build one another up.
00:13:41
Speaker
Not insulting or condescending or negative. Nothing that is not like love. Jesus had no violence in him.
00:13:54
Speaker
He was pure. he was He is God on earth. He is God with us. And he showed love to everybody.
00:14:05
Speaker
And so we are to be transformed in our mind, and we've been talking about that, to be more God-like because God is love.

Conclusion and Invitation

00:14:15
Speaker
So today, let everything we do be done with love, the way a bride or a husband would speak to their husband or bride, the way God speaks to us.
00:14:27
Speaker
He speaks to us with such love. Our enemy is the accuser. God is not an accuser. He speaks to us with love, forgiveness, acceptance.
00:14:40
Speaker
He speaks to us with compassion and gentleness.
00:14:46
Speaker
And so today, let us remember the song of Solomon and let's let every word that comes out of our mouth be that of love.
00:14:57
Speaker
