In this bonus drop, we're joined by the one and only Chris Reed — aka Filthy Phil from Sons of Anarchy — for an inside look at Jax Teller’s strengths, weaknesses, and all-around outlaw energy. Chris breaks down what makes Jax tick (and snap), just in time for our next main event: Jax vs. The Man With No Name (yes, that Clint Eastwood legend).

Come for the character insights, stay for the SOA love. Huge thanks to Chris for helping us keep things rowdy between episodes.

00:00:26
Speaker
You've seen the movies, you know the legends. Now it's time to settle the score.

Meet the Hosts: Jordan Guerrero and Steve Sadler

00:00:36
Speaker
My name's Jordan Guerrero. And I'm Steve Sadler. And this is a podcast about the greatest fictional tournament in the history of the universe.

Spotlight on Filthy Phil from Sons of Anarchy

00:00:44
Speaker
Today we've got special bonus content and this is a fun one.
00:00:47
Speaker
Jordan, I know this is one of your favorite characters. Go for it. Absolutely. So today we have Filthy Phil played by Christopher Reed. You might know him as one of the prospects originally who later became a patch member within Sam Crow.
00:01:02
Speaker
He started as a background character and developed more into a really cool character throughout the show. We're super happy to have him on and get his take on who would win in this battle. Yeah, this is really awesome. he's Not only is it a cool character and a fun character that everybody should know, but Chris is a really cool guy. I reached out to him about the Jax episode, which all our listeners are going to be hearing here in the next, i don't know, few days, I guess.
00:01:25
Speaker
But he instantly was pretty pumped up about it. He thought it was a cool concept. And really, all I did was ask him who he thought would win. And what he did was incredible, he as you're going to hear here in a second.
00:01:36
Speaker
He did a huge breakdown. If you're a baseball fan, you know the 20 to 80 prospect scale. and This is unbelievable. I don't want to spoil anything, but he came up with his own metrics for this thing, and he went well above and beyond.
00:01:50
Speaker
Such a cool guy, and can't wait to share this with you guys.

Chris Reed's Scouting Report on Jax Teller

00:02:03
Speaker
Hello, Fictional Fighting Championship. I am Chris Reed. For four years, I played club prospect Filthy Phil on FX's Sons of Anarchy. That means I am extremely qualified to provide you with this scouting report of the show's lead badass, Jackson Jacks Teller.
00:02:29
Speaker
Now, ah in order for this to be clearly understood by everyone, I'm going to use the internationally accepted way of scouting fictional characters and giving their lowdown, which is, of course, to use Fallout's special stats, strength, perception, endurance, charisma, intelligence, agility, and luck,
00:02:52
Speaker
Um, in the form of major league baseball's grading system for prospects, which is 20 meaning dog shit to 80 best that's ever played the game.
00:03:03
Speaker
Um, so that's what we're going to do because it's just the rules. I don't make them. I just follow them. Let's get into Jackson's statistics.

Analyzing Jax's Strength and Capabilities

00:03:13
Speaker
Strength.
00:03:19
Speaker
strength this is a big one is anyone who watched the show Jax didn't have his clothes on for half the time you saw all of his muscles and there were many of them and they were defined and big and pulpy and And good.
00:03:37
Speaker
um So this one's pretty easily strength affects your melee damage and combat. It affects your carrying capacity. Jack's solid 65.
00:03:49
Speaker
um That's pretty darn high. That's that's near Hall of Famer status. Very strong guy. I'm really confident about this one.

Jax's Perception and Awareness

00:04:03
Speaker
Moving on to perception. Perception influences like your your your range of detecting traps, your ability to spot hidden items.
00:04:15
Speaker
Now, Jax scores a 30. thirty in perception because if he had even the average level of perception, which would be about a 40, maybe Filthy Phil doesn't get shot in the face, chopped up and incinerated.
00:04:32
Speaker
Maybe he sees a trap when a trap is laid for him, which he doesn't. That's why Filthy Phil got dead. Thanks, Jax.

Endurance and Resilience of Jax Teller

00:04:48
Speaker
Endurance. Endurance um determines like maximum health and resistance to damage. Jax was a solid 45 in this arena. A little bit above average, but not necessarily one of his strengths.
00:05:02
Speaker
He could take a fair amount of damage, but was also susceptible to wounds, um as seen from a you know few events within the show. So Jax, solid 45 in endurance. Something to keep in mind.

Charisma as Jax's Standout Trait

00:05:23
Speaker
Charisma, easily Jax Teller's strong suit. He gets a 70, which is darn close to the best there's ever been at this. Charisma um affects how persuasive you are or how how effective you are at intimidating. And Jax throughout the show um was Hall of Fame caliber in both of these things.
00:05:50
Speaker
Solid 70 in the charisma section.

The Intelligence of Jax Teller: A Strategic Mind

00:05:58
Speaker
Moving on to intelligence. Now, this is a little bit different than perception. Intelligence um kind of goes into like your knowledge of specific skills and your your effectiveness of of how you plan, so to speak.
00:06:16
Speaker
And you may think I would go pretty low on this considering his perception thing, but they're different skills. Jax had a good idea of the shape of the club and where it was headed. He knew that continuing along with its most violent and criminal ways was in the long term going to be harmful. So Jax gets a 50 in the intelligence field.
00:06:39
Speaker
He's not going to get beat long term. Although if he bring the emotions into play, That's where the perception starts to go down. 50 intelligence.

Agility: Jax's Physical Prowess

00:06:57
Speaker
Moving on to agility. this and This is your speed. How fast you move, how how quickly you move, how how how fast you can pivot. And frankly, Jax has a frigging motorcycle.
00:07:11
Speaker
So this kind of kicks up a little bit with that. He's going to get a 55 in agility because you cannot separate Jax from from his bike if we're just talking about in a ring um it's still about the same considering his his raw muscle mass and kind of quickness if you see in the first episode of the pilot you can see how fast he grabs that pool cue and stuffs it into dudes i mean to dudes tender spots solid solid i'm gonna go 55 on agility for jacks
00:07:53
Speaker
Moving on to the last of our stats.

The Role of Luck in Jax's Journey

00:07:56
Speaker
Thank you very much for the invitation as always. And this would go to luck. Luck affects in the Fallout universe your critical hit.
00:08:07
Speaker
um How likely is it that the shot around the corner hits the bad guy between the eyes and knocks him out of the fight? um How likely are you to find something valuable um or a rare weapon?
00:08:22
Speaker
You know, luck. It's an important thing. And I can think of no fictional character who had more completely awful luck than Jax Teller. This is somebody whose dad dies as a kid who finds out his mom did bad things.
00:08:43
Speaker
To somebody else that he loved, I won't spoil. i almost did, but I won't um because people might want to watch the show after this. Jax had absolute shit luck throughout the entire run of the series. This one is not controversial.
00:08:59
Speaker
I'm very tempted to give him 25 here, but I'm not gonna, I'm going to go with a 30, which is not making the major leagues, uh, unless you have other skills that can help bring you up over the top and beat the competition, which Jack's of course does luck 30.

Conclusion: Jax Teller as a Complex Competitor

00:09:19
Speaker
thirty
00:09:28
Speaker
overall jacks is a formidable foe but if you can catch him in the heat of the moment get his emotions rising ah lay bait that you know he will take which almost always involves his family or his club He is vulnerable.
00:09:47
Speaker
However, if you just come at him raw force, hoping to to get the best of him in who wants it more, he's going to take you down every single time.
00:09:58
Speaker
That is your scouting report on Jax. I hope it serves you well.
