Introduction and New Year Greetings

00:00:01
Mark
Every club. Every day. The Global Sports Podcast Network. Here we go. Transfer special. Happy New Year, everyone. Welcome back to the Forest Daily Pod. It's me, Mark, Stuart and Marley. Dream team back together for the first time. This is the first time us three have done a podcast for ages, isn't it?

Transfer Window Discussions

00:00:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
very week one vibes when we were talking about, so the three of us did that dream debut or was that even, yeah, so and then here we are in the next transfer window talking about the next play is gonna make their their dream debuts.
00:00:20
Marley
Yeah.
00:00:24
Mark
yeah
00:00:31
Mark
Yeah, I think it was dream goals or something like that. And McGugan scored against Ipswich, something like that.
00:00:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, yeah.
00:00:35
Mark
Yeah, we're talking transfer window. Forest usually sound quite a few players, not that we need many this season. But you know, first rumours that have been circulating, ah you know, potentially interested in Makati on loan. And if a one ye does get sold, they'll let him go if we have another replacement of a similar standard lined up.
00:00:52
Mark
and So with that in mind, have we got Marley, do you want to kick off? We're doing two top picks for the transfer window each, right?
00:00:59
Marley
I would love to kick off. Yes. Uh, and one of my two, if then cast wants to tell me I'm talking loudly is a striker who's hitting it hard in the championship at a minute at the minute, who could maybe replace Taiwan as our backup. Should he go? And that is West Bromwich Albion striker, Josh Madja. He scored 12 goals in the championship so far, which is pretty decent. I think if grab and storage Davis had hit that number.
00:01:25
Marley
We'd have been happy if Matty Fright had hit that number. At this stage of the season, we'd have wondered who'd given him substances that were banned. So Josh Madger, I think would be the perfect backup striker for Chris Wood should Taiwo Awani leave the club this summer.
00:01:41
Marley
It's just about this January, sorry.
00:01:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
so So when will we link with him before?
00:01:41
Mark
Yes, it is a good, he's a good shout. He was great at Sunderland when he came through the Academy. And I think he went to like Bordeaux. It was a really niche move because no one in the prime could afford him because the asking price was too high.
00:01:53
Mark
But he got injured and he was Yeah,
00:01:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Sorry about that. Wasn't it it two January's ago, even last January? And he's definitely been almost, I think you think it was even last January, he was almost so glad to joining them. I remember getting the database mixed up.
00:02:06
Mark
maybe But I think because originally when he was at Sunderland, people in the Premier League wanted him, but their asking price was really high. But he's had a lot of injury issues, and with our track record with injury, I don't know if it's dangerous. I mean, if he's if you staying fit now, he could be a great striker, and I think it could be a good shout. But um ah that's my only worry, I think, with the the injuries. But he does look, he's rapid as well, he's really quick.
00:02:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Do you know the ah contract situation, Marley? Is he someone we could maybe get on on the cheap? it Is his West Brom deal expiring soon? Or how much do we think we'd need to pay Shell out for him?
00:02:38
Marley
I'm not sure about his contract situation personally, but I don't think he'll be that expensive. Obviously, he does play for West Brom who aren't really in a position to go charging too much. They are in the playoffs at the minutes and they do have pull if they want to attract another striker to replace him.
00:02:55
Marley
So I think we could pick him up in around the 10, 15 million pound mark.
00:03:01
Mark
Yeah, fair. Stuart, have you got anyone to add to that? Are you going strikers or are you getting more defensive?
00:03:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, to be too honest, both of my, um, both minor attackers and, you know, maybe we could come to the end of the episode and talk about why we don't need to strengthen certain positions. Um, so I'm going to start off with someone who I saw linked with Aston Villa today for a reasonable price. And I think we should swoop in and take take him. And that's Daniel Marlin, uh, the Dutch attacker at Dortmund. Um,
00:03:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
So yeah, he's not a regular starter, um, for Dortmund. He starts maybe 50, 60 cent at the time. But the reason why, um, I was sort of reading them about Villa and I thought we just would pin Villa are only paying 18 million for him.
00:03:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then and you if you consider we've definitely got 30 million in the budget, that's how much we were trying to spend on Ramsdale or in Kettier in the summer.
00:03:46
Mark
Wow.
00:03:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
So you have to assume that 30 million is still there. So Villa spending 18 million. on a player of that quality. And he's the type of player I think we need and that he can play on the wings and as the nine.
00:04:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
So it'd be competition for Elanga, Hudson and Doy, and also for Wood and Taiwo as the nine through the middle. So that's why I think someone like him who can play in those three attacking positions and best in your reaction, someone with a good good reputation in the game.
00:04:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
So for me, if you really want to solidify and push on for a second, I'm thinking someone in the and the range of Daniel Marlin.
00:04:20
Mark
Mm hmm.

Striker Options and Considerations

00:04:28
Mark
Yeah, nice. I think he he offers something different going through the middle as well. I think his finishing at times been um has been a bit hit and miss, but he's a top player and he of well scored some big goals at Dortmund as well in the Champions League and especially if we're trying to push on for the top four that like experience would be really useful.
00:04:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Me and yours, all of them, yeah.
00:04:43
Mark
um Let's stick on strikers then because I've got i've got what like a winger and a striker um and I think I'm going to go with my striking option and Marley I know you're not going to like this because you're against it now but if Taiwo is going I still think Jimenez is a good option up front.
00:04:59
Mark
He did well with final last season. He's due all right this season. But the reason his goal scoring has dropped off, I looked at the stats, he doesn't start many games with final because they're the way they play this season, they've got somebody else that works better in the starting lineup. But he's come off the bench a few times in the Champions League and scored every time.
00:05:14
Mark
And he's still got that goal score in touch. And I think he's still young. He's at 23, 24. And I think he could still be a massive player for us down the line. I think he's one of them that's like maybe not, you know, necessarily just the best footballer, but his finishing is is like really, really tight. And especially now with final not being as strong. I think he'll probably be a lot cheaper than he would have would have been in the summer, I would say.
00:05:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah think you is definitely
00:05:37
Marley
He's already turned it down. He's turned us down three times in one window though.
00:05:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
but
00:05:43
Marley
That's, that's tight. Now you've, you, you had the chance to join Nottingham forest, the biggest club in world football. You turned it down. You threw it away. We're not going to come giving you the chance again when, when, um, it suits you.
00:05:56
Marley
I know I'm all four second chances in life and in football, but if you turn us down three times, you should at least have to wait 12 months to get your second chance, not six months when we've proven you wrong.
00:06:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think he is definitely.
00:06:05
Mark
Yeah, maybe. But was he staying for the Champions League, though? And would he now come with the thought that, you know, Forrest could be in the Champions League next season? Would it be more tempting for him now?
00:06:19
Marley
probably to be fair but still i that's the whole reason i was skeptical of signing alex marina on loan is that he did turn us down when we first got promoted and i'm always unsure on signing a player that turns us down because i just feel like it could easily ruin the passion that we've got going a good feeling we've got going having a player who's turned us down so maybe isn't fully sees does the second choice isn't fully happy at the club after to joining it's a bit like a bit iffy on that
00:06:45
Mark
yeah
00:06:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think things change and and and like we were a different, we are a very different proposition now than we were then.
00:06:47
Mark
okay yeah have that
00:06:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
as ah As Mark said, he's not a regular starter in finals lineup now. So at the time he was, as I said, leaving the Champions League team as their main nine for someone who finished 17th last year.
00:07:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
And now we're a second, final order third or fourth. I've had a bit of a drop off this year.
00:07:10
Mark
Yeah.
00:07:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I think, I think in in football, I know it's nice to say,
00:07:13
Mark
Okay, yeah.
00:07:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
He said, no, it was once. We're never, never closing the book on you again. But Alex Moreno is the good example. Circumstances change. um And yeah, I think now it's almost a better fit than it was um in the summer for both, for for both final or forest and also for for the player as well.
00:07:32
Mark
Yeah, the only the only the only issue I could see with it now is that you know, would he get in the team above award and I'm not sure if you would.
00:07:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think it's and another option.
00:07:41
Marley
Mmm
00:07:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Are we as so assuming, Mark, um is that only if Tyra goes, mu in this situation, of signing Jimenez? Or you'd sign Jimenez first and then say it to Tyra, sorry mate, your third choice now, you're free to leave?
00:07:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Or would you have to see Tyra go first before we bring Jimenez?
00:07:58
Mark
I think you'd have to see him go. But I think what they were saying in the article that I read was that if, if forest have found a good enough replacement, who is of at least the same standard, maybe slightly higher, that is available and not crazy expensive, then they would let Taiwan go. But I think the need to find the replacement first, whether they sign them or not, they need to need to find someone who could replace him kind of within that first few um days after Taiwan leaves, us essentially.
00:08:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
It sounds like a bit of a poker game. So in the background, try and sell Taiwa, but don't make it public that we're trying to sell them because then the price of these Jimenez or Marlin or Josh Magin will rise because they know we've got the money for Taiwa coming in.
00:08:29
Mark
Yeah.
00:08:39
Mark
Yeah, yeah, that is true.

Ad Break: Zencastr Benefits

00:08:41
Mark
Right, advert number one, and then we'll go on to our second picks because we've got some good players in the minute. And I mean, any of these strikers will probably work quite well for us. Don Yale probably is my top pick so far from Stuart. But I reckon there's there's some more attackers coming in that, you know,
00:08:55
Mark
People may save their second pick best till last. And so yeah, we'll go to the first advert and then we'll find out who everyone's got as their second pick.
00:09:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah you We we we we didn't didn't have them. So Zencastor, we all know the drill drill by now. i Sorry, I couldn't couldn't find the script whilst we were talking, so...
00:09:12
Mark
Oh, sorry, I thought we had it all.
00:09:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, no, it was on my other laptop, but are we all we we all know the story of Zencastor allows for the AI clips, perfect place to start a podcast, link in the show description if you want to start your podcast with Zencastor.
00:09:27
Mark
Perfect. There you go. stuearwart Love that little improvised little takes. Great. Okay. Advert number one done. Second

Defensive and Squad Needs

00:09:33
Mark
picks. Marley, go on to round two. Who've you got for us?
00:09:36
Marley
So I was thinking who else might believe in the club but and I saw a rumour of the night before New Year's Eve, throughout New Year's Eve morning, which scared me a little and made me think I need to find a replacement for this player for this very podcast.
00:09:50
Marley
That player is Ola Aina. I've seen rumours that Manchester City are looking at him to replace their Kyle Walker and if Manchester City come knocking there's not much we can do.
00:09:54
Mark
It's the Man City one.
00:10:03
Marley
So I was originally thinking that we could replace him with Brighton's Purves esta pinion, but I realised that he would be a little bit expensive.
00:10:10
Mark
Yeah, okay.
00:10:14
Mark
And on the wrong side is the left back.
00:10:15
Marley
So I was thinking left back or right back can work because obviously all has been playing both. He can play both.
00:10:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
but we'd We'd be sure on on right back though, because then we'd be left with Nika William, just Nika on right back, and then Moreno plus Toffolo on the left back.
00:10:23
Marley
So a player who can play both would be perfect to bring in.
00:10:29
Mark
Yeah, I think I know I think I know who you're gonna say that I think I know who you can say the right back option.
00:10:36
Marley
Go on then, it is a centre-back who's been playing right back, may I add?
00:10:41
Mark
oh No, I don't know but I did one person ah this wasn't on my list by the way one person did think and I know fellow fans aren't the keenest on him But I'm sure we would all love to have him back at the city ground if we did need a right back would be Mattie cash Not in January, I don't think some what we might do
00:10:53
Marley
Yes, well, I was obviously thinking Pervis est up in Yan, but then I also thought, are we going to struggle to keep Marillo?
00:11:05
Marley
I've seen a lot of, I've seen a lot of rumours about him and I've thought, well, if we're going to lose Ola Aina, we could bring him Pervis Estepignan to replace him. But he would be expensive and we might eventually lose Marillo. Bollie's getting on a bit. Why not bringing a centre back and rely on the right backs we've got? So I've scouted ah spanish right ah a Spanish no, a Spanish centre back who currently plays for Athletico Bilbao.
00:11:33
Marley
His name is Daniel Vivian.
00:11:37
Marley
Centreback, Atletico Club, Atletico Bilbao, whatever you want to call them. He's been playing very well. He's only 25 years old. And I reckon if we splash 20 million on the table, we can prime away from Atletico.
00:11:52
Marley
In 16 matches in the league of this season from Centreback, he's managed to score twice, which is the same amount as Nikola Milenkovic for us this season.
00:11:52
Mark
Mm hmm.
00:12:02
Marley
and he's played a big part in what couldn't be described as a very good season so far for Bilbao. I believe they are top four. Yes, they are top four Champions League places. So the only worry would be a homegrown player being pulled away from his club he's been at for years. But if we can do that, perfect person to bring in should Marillo leave us.
00:12:25
Mark
Okay, let me throw this into the mix though. David Karmo is on loan at Olympiarchus probably with a view to bring him back in summer. Right foot at 10 and a half. What do we need with Ian?
00:12:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
and I i'd have to hope, yeah, that Karmo is part part of that succession plan.
00:12:39
Marley
Oh yes, because Vivian's arguably better.
00:12:43
Mark
Yeah, true.
00:12:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, um I mean, yeah if we go into next summer with our fourth centre halves being Morello, Milankovic, Marato, plus Karmo at Olympiacos, you're right, Karmo might be the fourth fourth man.
00:12:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's still, if we do do sign and your scouting tip, Marley, that would be an and excellent an excellent thing. But then it would leave us slightly short on right back, give A and a goes. And I and said this actually on our Chelsea crossover a couple of months ago, I really can't believe that Chelsea aren't looking at Aida because they, of course, in the, sorry about that.
00:13:14
Marley
Can I point...
00:13:18
Marley
I don't believe that Lee was short at right back at all, I think we're forgetting. One p player we've got at the club, who if Aina leaves, I really rate him and back him to be back up to Nico Williams and his name is Erika da Silva Moreira.
00:13:31
Mark
That's true, it's true.
00:13:32
Marley
I will back him all the way, all the way.
00:13:34
Mark
He's unproven and untested though, isn't he?
00:13:37
Marley
Unproven, untested, but I will back him all the way.
00:13:40
Mark
Yeah, could I think in the future he's going to be our number one right back. if we keep hold of him. I think he's a good player. But yeah, Vivian's definitely, I think he's a great, I know quite a lot about him. I've played with him on FIFA quite a bit. And he is a good player. He is a good player. He's definitely one to have on the shortlist. I think he's a really good scout. I just don't know if we would go for centre-backs, because I think we're quite stopped. I mean, you'd have to get rid of Amadele as well.
00:14:02
Mark
um
00:14:02
Marley
um I do want him to go online personally.
00:14:05
Mark
Yeah, I think he should go online as well. Same with Sosa, even though he looked good at Everton. But we shall see. Stuart, round two, what you got?
00:14:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, so purely because we can I don't think any of our first choice defenders will leave in the window. I think even if Amabaradele and Toffolo depart, we've got enough cover to ah keep them keep them at the club. So i that's why I'm going for two two attackers. So I went for Daniel Marlin as the more versatile one. And there's a pure number nine. This is a link I saw earlier today. I'm quite intrigued by a guy called Petar Moussa.
00:14:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
who is a Croatian international currently playing for FC Dallas. um We've been in said just one year at Dallas, scored 16 and 30 times in the MLS. But before that, he had an OK record at Benfica and Slavia Prague.
00:14:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
and then NK Zagreb back in Croatia. So the interesting thing about that link um is because he's already gone from Benfica to MLS, he really want he will have that hunger and desire to prove himself again in Europe. um So you have to think when a 25 year old already goes to MLS, it's because up that time at Benfica hasn't quite worked out but he's really well in that year in the MLS and it means he won't demand a starting spot at Forest either. He'll know that he's been lucky for the second chance at a big European club if Forest works beside him and he'll be happy and he'll be patient to to work ah work hard and get his chance in the team. So he's got a decent record, decent profile and I think he'll work well as an option off the bench and not that demand. He won't demand instantly the starting night number nine place.
00:15:44
Mark
Yeah, he's a big lad, isn't he? He's quite tall, I think.
00:15:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:15:47
Mark
Yeah. Yeah, could be a good option. He's not that different to Chris Wood though.
00:15:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think.
00:15:51
Mark
But then if he's younger, he could be a long term replacement.
00:15:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah, exactly. So I think because yeah the and MLS have that season differently, they have it off the calendar year. So he'll come in a bit cold. They weren't going to play now for a couple of months. So yeah, I think if he can second half of the season, they'd be playing if you have a cup games and on the bench for off the bench for word.
00:16:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
then next year, maybe it's Wood starting in the league and Moose are starting in the European Games.
00:16:15
Mark
Yeah, maybe.
00:16:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
So that's what I think we we do need to, I mean, compared to last January, with the session of Sells, all our signings were on loan. So there's Rayner, Guy Ribeiro, and I can't remember the other January signing, but I think there was and another loanee.
00:16:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
We don't need that anymore. We don't need sticking plasters. um I would be completely happy if there's zero signings and zero outgoings. Which is why if there are any incomings, I do need to be someone with a view to next year as well. um and Because our position is so to secure in the top of the top eight, if not even the top four. So we do need to start looking at building that squad for next year. And people like Eric Moreira, as Marley mentioned, maybe they do need a chance because they've played one minute in the Premier League football. If they aren't going to be ready for Champions League football, we're not talking about mid-table Premier League football, and go for the next minute.
00:17:06
Mark
Yeah, maybe Molly, go on.
00:17:09
Marley
I would just like to put out there that between January and summer, I believe that we might actually require at least one player in every position to be signed. Because no matter how stacked we are there, if we qualify for Europe, I'd want us to have three players capable in every position. One for Europe, one for league, one for backup stroke, domestic cup competitions to keep everyone fit, to keep everyone happy, to make sure that we've got no injury worries because obviously we've seen what could happen with Villa, what could happen with Newcastle when your players get tired and you drop off because of Europe. I would really love to have an extra player in those positions especially where we only have like say one backup player to come in to be that extra option and to avoid that fatigue and those injuries from taking over too much next season and if we do qualify for Europe.
00:18:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Do you mean 33 players, sorry, literally 33 players, Marley?
00:18:03
Mark
Yeah, the only thing I would say.
00:18:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Or are you, um because then of course you don't have to worry about PSR and of course some of them will have to be under 21 otherwise we won't be able to register register them.
00:18:16
Marley
ah not necessarily 33 but I'd say at least say three fallbacks on one side two on the other side but one of the three can play the other side say maybe you know, bringing an extra centre back or two, an extra centre mid or two, an extra winger or two.
00:18:35
Marley
But do remember that if we do have anyone that's too many players over 21 that we need to register, we can just register them in the league, but not in Europe and we or we can register them in Europe, but not in the league.
00:18:47
Mark
Yeah, fair.
00:18:47
Marley
That's what Chelsea have done. If you, if you remember, they've not registered Cole Palmer in Europe because they know that they're capable of winning the conference league without him. They can just focus him on the league.
00:18:56
Mark
Yeah, and the cup. Yeah, fair. Yeah, well, the final pick I've got.
00:18:59
Marley
Like they're done with GUYU as well.
00:19:01
Mark
Yeah, the final pick I've got this year ah for this transfer window so far, I think it was one that Marley wanted as well, but I got that first to snuck it, but what I will share it together. And I think this, ah it's doable, but I think he might be maybe the most expensive out of any of the picks we've said so far.
00:19:17
Mark
is Borja Saints from Norwich in the Championship, kind of the standout player of the league so far really. I think he's got about 40 and 15 goals and about 10 assists already and and he's essentially kind of like a winger or a cam but he can play through the middle if you need him to kind of be a backup striker as well. Looks really good, Spanish lad, I think he's about 24-25 as well, good age, good profile.
00:19:39
Mark
And ah no one in the championship can get close to him. And I think if you put him in our team, you know it looks quite athletic, kind of like a level up to version of like Zink and Argyle in the kind of like body shape that he is. and I think he could be a really good addition, someone quite physical, someone quite athletic, quite quick, but very technical and very good with an eye for goal as well as scored some absolute screamers for Norwich. But again, I reckon he would probably come in around the 25 million mark, maybe 30 mil, because they obviously did quite well in the championship as well. But if we loan Sosa out, he could be another winger, which would be good thoughts.

yeah i think again if we're looking really looking to solidify our place in the top four then maybe you do need to be ruthless and look for an upgrade so if we think that he sand is better now than Sosa, and we really want the top four, then that's the sort of move you got to do.
00:20:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Maybe Sosa would go on loan to Norwich as part of the deal. um So it would benefit us that he would always would get a competitive championship loan.
00:20:37
Mark
Yeah, maybe.
00:20:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
It was sweet in the deal for Norwich as well. So that certainly could be if if we see them as a direct upgrade, then then why not? I mean, he doesn't have Premier League experience. It's a slight question mark.
00:20:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
But then again, none of the I don't think apart from Josh Madja and none of the players we

Club Ambition and Player Retention

00:20:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
mentioned have. so um Yeah, if the money is there, we've thought with Nkathia or Jimenez, 30 million this summer. That is our budget, 30 million there. Why not but push out, push the boat out 25 million on someone who's tearing it up the league below. And he could be that difference maker between June 4th and 5th.
00:21:12
Mark
Maybe. All right. So, um, final picks, what we're saying, who, uh, I think I'm probably gonna get it for Danielle Marlin. You know, I think that could be a really good shout, especially 18 million.
00:21:24
Marley
Yeah.
00:21:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I was really surprised when I saw Villa were roughing that much. And even if we outbid them by two, for 20 million, that sales would still seem like a good good deal. So I think it's one I think.
00:21:34
Mark
Yeah. As long as he's willing to come and commit and get involved with the project, that's the most important thing.
00:21:40
Marley
I think looking from the outside at Forest at the minute, the project is so convincing. It's so attractive, especially when you see us in second place in the table, probably a lot earlier than we we would have expected to be here based off our project, our roadmap. So players looking or think, wow, they are way ahead of schedule. They are doing really well. A really ambitious club. You can tell how ambitious they are with their owner and their manager and the squad. You can see the vibes in the dressing room are good through all our inner story, you know.
00:22:07
Marley
I cannot think of many level of player who won't look at us and think, wow, wow, wow, that is a club I would love to be a part of. I think we could really challenge really big clubs for players like Juventus for players this summer and this January, honestly I do.
00:22:16
Mark
Hmm.
00:22:20
Mark
Hmm.
00:22:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, that's why we we we can't sell any big name in January, because then Fariq being an ambitious club is proven to be not true. because If you sell a key player in January, ah then the impression goes on or that they're just buying young players and selling them as soon as our opportunity goes. If you want to prove to potential newcomers that we are really serious, and I think Marinakis is that, he's not going to sell anyone that we want to keep it in January. So even if Citi offer but AIN is out of contract, by the way. I don't think AIN would go for anywhere less than 30 million, and Citi aren't gonna pay 30 million for someone available on the free in the summer. So I think AIN will stay. Marillo, I don't don't know who would have 80 million to spend in January based on the current PSR rules across Europe. And then Gibbs White, again, link with Liverpool, the same thing. It's gonna be third v first next weekend. Why would we sell Gibbs White for any price? and I'm sure Wolves have a ah high sell on clause, so we have to sell Gibbs White
00:23:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
for huge sums for it to be profitable. So I think we will show our ambition not just by signing such players, but by keeping players as well. I think that's just as important.
00:23:30
Marley
Yeah, and talking about talking about big names and being sold, there is one player who's been looked at by some quite funny clubs. One of those clubs is AC Milan. And I don't want him to go obviously, but I kind of do because I think it'd be funny watching Chris Wood of all people playing in a AC Milan shirt.
00:23:52
Mark
I mean, yeah, it was.
00:23:54
Marley
It is the most
00:23:54
Mark
It'd be quite something, wouldn't it?
00:23:56
Marley
The most random link to come out of 2025 already, but Chris Wood for AC Milan would be, especially looking back his Burnley days would be something else.
00:24:05
Mark
Yeah, and you kind of can't begrudge him for doing it as well. Because, you know, he's, he's like spent his entire career, at like leads Burnley, like he's obviously come to knots now, like, you know, Lester, like, a lot of these British shitties, I mean, Bernie was there, Bernie for ages, its not the nicest of areas.
00:24:12
Marley
Lester.
00:24:19
Mark
I mean, knots leads Lester, there's more you can do that. But you can't really begrudge him wanting to go to Milan. Do you know what I mean? Like live a bit of life.
00:24:25
Marley
I've lived in Leicester. I've lived in Leicester, that is a lie. There is nothing to do in Leicester. It's one of the most horrible cities to live in, I can imagine, and I've lived everywhere. So, yeah, to be fair, um if Jamie Vardy's house was in Leicester this year, Jamie, mad respect for you because I couldn't get out of there soon enough.
00:24:44
Mark
Yeah. Well, yeah. I mean, he's probably got the splashes to spend them. I need Christ. Yeah. All right.
00:24:48
Marley
True.
00:24:49
Mark
I feel like we've got some good picks there. I feel like we've got some picks. I reckon if we had one each, I'd probably say maybe science, Marlin, and then Magia.
00:25:01
Mark
Imagine those two science and Marlin behind Magia. That's rapid.
00:25:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think I'd agree that from from the six we said they would there would be the three, because with Vivian Marley, I think it's not an urgent need at this point. but The guy Petar Mu is a bit unproven.
00:25:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
um And then him and his, yeah, we've got Marley on his back, so he says he's not going to come.
00:25:18
Mark
And Jimenez hates us.
00:25:21
Marley
yeah
00:25:25
Mark
Yeah, if we get, we forget Jimenez, we lose a forest fan. So, you know.
00:25:29
Marley
oh
00:25:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
They want to use that funding, this signing by with this club shop purchase in the first place.
00:25:35
Mark
but Yeah. Imagine Santiago Jimenez.
00:25:37
Marley
um This is a good time to announce so um I am moving house. I will now live in the club shop
00:25:44
Mark
You will. Yeah. Imagine Santiago Jimenez from final to Mali.
00:25:51
Marley
I have bought Santiago Jimenez.
00:25:54
Mark
Imagine I mean, you're probably not far off, mate.
00:25:58
Marley
I've got every shirt for the last two seasons, and ah plus limited edition warm up tops.
00:25:58
Mark
But yeah, cool.
00:26:01
Mark
Yeah, good episode, though. um I reckon. Oh, lights gone off. So darkness over here. And I reckon long term and over the January window, we'll have to keep checking in, keep finding out what's going on.

Rumors and Reflections

00:26:15
Mark
with the rumors as well rumors are gonna be really interesting I reckon there's gonna be a lot around forests there's probably gonna be potentially a few signings because you know what we're like um and we'll have to keep everyone in the loop of what's going on because it's gonna be busy
00:26:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, definitely. I think getting back to this time last year, one of our best players was Mangala. Then all of a sudden the rumors started. It was off to Italy. And then he came up when it went to Leon. So that was certainly unexpected as of second of January, 2024. So yeah, maybe there will be something that takes us by surprise. And one of the, I mean, we haven't even mentioned on this podcast, someone like Danilo or Sangare. I would not be opposed to loaning out or sending one of those two because we've been buying without them.
00:26:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
live that then brings in the money for others so I've said don't sell a star and then unfortunately I don't include Daniella or Sangare as a star at the moment so the right offer comes in for those two I would not be opposed to selling them
00:27:08
Mark
Yeah, I mean, like with Sagara, I don't think we've really seen the best of Sangara yet, not properly. Danilo, it'd be nice to keep him, but like with Mangala, you see him play for Everton, you're like, oh, you were better for us. Like, we don't really miss that, to be honest. One final point, actually, to ask, would you keep Ward Prowse?
00:27:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think we have to um because he played for West Ham on the first day of the season.
00:27:34
Marley
what
00:27:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
So you can only play for two clubs in a season. So unless West Ham suddenly want him back, I don't think they'll take him back. So ah from what I've heard, he's not been a bad egg or anything behind the scenes.
00:27:43
Marley
mate mate mate I will pick him up from training and I will drive him down to ah London myself genuinely I will
00:27:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's he's ah not a terrible bench option and I think we're stuck with him, unfortunately.
00:27:59
Mark
Well, Marley, you might have a choice, mate. From what Stuart's just said.
00:28:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think I said on on here maybe a month ago, I think if Lopategi, when he's looking at it, he might be sacked, then the new manager would give War Prowser a clean clean slate um and take him back because Lopategi hasn't been sacked yet and I don't think he necessarily will be now, so I think War Prowser is still going to be sticking around.
00:28:24
Mark
Yeah. Well, there you go. There's the round up so far.

Conclusion and Listener Engagement

00:28:29
Mark
And of course, if anyone has any yeah options they want to throw in, comment below and um we'll chat about them on the next podcast. But yeah, that was fun. And hopefully see you both on the next one.
