Introduction to the Podcast

00:00:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Good evening, good morning, good afternoon, whenever you're watching or listening to this episode and welcome back to the Global Sports Podcasting Network Daily Forest Podcast. It's me, Marley. I'm joined by the amazing James. James, how are you doing on this fine evening?

Forest vs Spurs Game Analysis

00:00:25
James Rigby
I'm good mate, it's that weird timing between Christmas in it but we've kind of, we've bookended one end with the win against Spurs and I'm hoping we're going to bookend the other tomorrow with a win against Everton.
00:00:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, Everton looking like a tricky opponent, but looking back at the day after Christmas, the Boxing Day fixture at home to Tottenham Hotspur for now, what are you thinking as your immediate post-match thoughts? Do you think we played well? Do you think it's a good result?
00:00:56
James Rigby
Well, you know what, I know you're going to talk about tactics in a minute, so I don't want to get on to that, but one thing that I'm not noticing as much they They constantly go on about our possession stats and different things. And they did it after that game, and being so low, you know like 30% possession. And I'm just like, I didn't notice too much with it. I did not notice that Spurs had 70% of the ball because they just did nothing with it. It wasn't like they were stood in front of our goal for 90 minutes, 70% of the time taking pot shots at us. And we were stood there.
00:01:35
James Rigby
with a rear guard action. I don't think we looked worried. I don't think we looked shaky um that much. There was a couple of Johnson chances, but other than that, that there was no like sustained period during the game where I thought, oh, they're going to do us here. you know They're building up to something.
00:01:54
James Rigby
and so No, it was a good game, um enjoyed watching it, enjoyed seeing Jed Spence on the pitch, and enjoyed seeing Jed Spence leave the pitch as well, the way that he did. ah But yeah, I enjoyed it. You were setting the trend end, weren't you?
00:02:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, I was. um Not the best view for our goal. A very good view for a couple of great Matt Sells saves from Brennan Johnson shots.
00:02:19
James Rigby
Mmm.
00:02:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
But one question I want to ask you is about that Jed Spencer red card. What were your thoughts to it? Because I know there were two different champs around the city ground. It was kind of a 50-50 split between the Warnock said that Spencer wasn't very good.
00:02:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now he's absolutely brilliant. Chan from the promotion season and the other half was singing You used to play for a big club. What were your thoughts? Did you feel like

Player Performance Discussions

00:02:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
thanking him? Did you feel like, ha ha ha ha ha, get off the pitch you mug.
00:02:48
James Rigby
Well, it was a 1-0 win, so it wasn't like we totally turned them over defensively, but it was, I think, Spence who got dispossessed um on the edge of our 18-yard box um for our goal.
00:03:07
James Rigby
So um yeah, he got dispossessed. Gibbs White played in a beaut of a pass to Alanga. And he slotted it home um in front of the Bridgeford end, right in front of the Spurs fans. And he just kind of stood there silent, didn't he? Just looking at them, and which was amazing. But yeah, Spence, he got the yellow card. He got two yellows really quick, didn't he? In the second half, he got one for Descent.
00:03:36
James Rigby
and which is a bit silly when when one of your two yellows is for like throwing a hissy fit you kind of feel like that's avoidable and and he got another one for a challenge on jota now jota goes down pretty easy let's be honest you know he wins a lot of free kicks and he goes down but and I don't think Spence has got too much of a leg to stand on when you see the replay and because it was and as the commentators might call it a coming together but Spence did lift his leg um
00:04:12
James Rigby
towards Jota to make sure that he didn't get past and and go. So there was a bit of 50-50 in it, but then Spence did put a bit extra in to definitely make sure Jota didn't get past. So for me, we were on a break. That's what Forrester all about. When we win possession back in our own third, and we've got, um you know, our wingers bombing on, I think that's a goal scoring opportunity. You should have got a straight red anyway.
00:04:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. And it it kind of felt like in a way, a sense that they, those two players have come back to the city ground and it's the occasion might've got the better of them because they both seemed, we seem to be getting the better of both of them quite a lot. Obviously Brennan's deemed the better of the two, but after watching the game, I don't think he gets anywhere near our starting lineup anymore considering he was at record sale. He had a couple of shots, which was not straight at Matt Sells, but Matt Sells dealt with very well.
00:05:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
And it was only about two shots and those were the only a couple of times he really managed to beat, to beat Ola Aina or Nico Williams at all in the game. And I've in fact, felt his Welsh teammate, Nico Williams actually had a really good game, essentially had him in his back pocket.
00:05:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Do you think that was a bit of coming back to city ground, getting the better of him, or do you just think that he's not playing as well as he has been?
00:05:25
James Rigby
Yeah.
00:05:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we were lucky to get 50 million for him.
00:05:37
James Rigby
Uh, that I think, uh, consistency. ah I'm not saying he's a bad player. I'm not saying on his days of 50 million pound player. Absolutely. On his day, he brings something to the team as spurs.
00:05:48
James Rigby
Sorry. When he deleted his socials earlier in the season, and then he starts scoring game after game after game, Spurs saw why he was such a a big player. Um, and now they're kind of going back on that and a moaning, be moaning his performances.
00:06:04
James Rigby
Um, but again. It takes something special to break down the forest defence, so we we we came out with our usual, didn't we, um that seems to become what is a match-winning formula for us, so sales in that.
00:06:21
James Rigby
9 out of 10, if not more. Absolutely fantastic. A couple of worldy saves again and from good shots from Johnston, but other than that, not a whole lot to do. Murillo and Milankovic at the back, the Serbinator, you know, and the the the Brazilian Mafia, absolutely killing it. A pair of them together, no one shall pass. Aina and Williams, and you know, out wide.
00:06:49
James Rigby
Again, no complaints. Both players gave everything. Who do you have in the middle of the park?
00:06:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
We add Elliot Anderson alongside Ryan Yates with Morgan Gibbs-White just in front of them.
00:07:03
James Rigby
Yeah, and yeah, he's got a yellow card, didn't he, which is a bit annoying because he now misses the Everton game. And it's it's um it's annoying because of the record that we've got for having Academy graduates in the matchday squad.
00:07:21
James Rigby
Have you seen that?
00:07:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:07:24
James Rigby
Yeah, someone said it was about 4,000 games or something silly.
00:07:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think it was mentioned, I think it was mentioned that Nuno is aware of the record and doesn't want it to end on his watch, so I am 100% certain we'll be seeing Academy Centre back who's been looked at by Manchester United previously, started against Newcastle and the Cup Zach Abbott, making me open the bench.
00:07:28
James Rigby
and
00:07:44
James Rigby
Zach Albert on the bench. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, it is one of them things that's amazing.
00:07:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
If we're only just winning, If we're only just winning, bring Marato on as usual, yeah?
00:07:52
James Rigby
Sorry.
00:07:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
But if we're three or more goals up in the 80th minute, Zach Abbott for his Premier League debut is a must.
00:07:54
James Rigby
Yeah, yeah.
00:08:02
James Rigby
Yeah, yeah, no, absolutely. ah Yeah, I could see that happening. That'd be good. ah But yeah, Anderson, no, the three of them, Anderson, Yates and Gibbs-White ran that midfield, you know.

Team Tactics and Strategies

00:08:15
James Rigby
Yates got an early yellow on eight minutes.
00:08:17
James Rigby
It was difficult for him to tread that line for the rest of the game, but he did it, you know, because his game is, um you know, basically letting the other team know that we're there, running that midfield, kind of being an enforcer, um and even with, you know, 82 minutes on a yellow, he managed not to get a red. He's not had a red yet at the Premier League, ah which is amazing.
00:08:45
James Rigby
So it gives White the assist for the Ilanga goal with Ilanga running on outside of his boot, and dissects the left back and the centre back straight in between him. Ilanga one touch, surely took one touch just to flick it and pass the keeper to the far post, trickled in. It's one of them ones that's agonising for the way all the opposite team because they're just like, is it going to go in? Isn't it going to go in?
00:09:13
James Rigby
um so yeah and then Hudson and I and Chris Wood. What do you think of Wood this match? Are we thinking he's gone off the boiler a little bit?
00:09:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
I wouldn't say gone off the boil. I'd more say the wrong type of game. It wasn't really a game where we were properly able to get the ball across to stick it on his head. Spurs play a very, very high line. So it was more a case of getting Hudson and Doy and Alanga down the wings and playing them in and seeing if they can cut inside and get a shot away. I just think it was kind of the wrong opposition, the wrong game for Chris Wood to play his Perfect football and if he was more in for I think it would be a tie well what he type of match rather than a Chris would type of match Yeah Yeah, I think
00:09:54
James Rigby
Yeah, and Tyler did come on right at the end and he had a chance right straight away, he had a chance right in front of the Trenton, didn't he? um And lashed it into the side netting, but he got he got um closed down. the The ideal opportunity there was to play it back across to Sosa. He was also on the pitch and waiting for it.
00:10:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think what showed in that moment was that he's really, really desperate for that first goal of the season because I feel like he should have seen that the better option was to cut back, but he is so desperate to try and get back in goal scoring form, get that first goal of the season, first goal really since his surgery that he just has to shoot, he has to go for it.
00:10:22
James Rigby
up
00:10:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Unfortunately for him was the wrong option. i
00:10:40
James Rigby
absolutely absolutely
00:10:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
fingers crossed it comes soon that's all you can say really at this point the other the other thing i noticed was that um that i'm on sosa got subbed on again and looked bright again what what are you thinking to his short cameo appearances do you think we're going to see a bit more from him a bit of a longer appearance in a coming game
00:11:08
James Rigby
I'd like to say I think you'll get a chance. I think it'll be a bit like Jota for Alanga, and that Hudson and Doy is probably quieting down a little bit, but at the same time, so Jota came in for Alanga, Alanga had a little bit of time off, and then Alanga's come back, like, absolutely smashing it, so Jota's not got a chance of getting in ahead of him um with the the way that he's scoring goals at the minute, Alanga. So then,
00:11:36
James Rigby
If Sosa came in for Hudson and Doy, you'd kind of think, well, because Jota wasn't pulling up trees when he came in. He was OK, but he wasn't pulling up trees. and But then if Hudson and Doy, who I think does an amazing job down that left-hand side. If you look at the stats, a majority of our attacks go down that left-hand side and with Hudson or Doi. So would I bring Sosa in? Can Sosa play on the right? I'm just thinking, I can't see anyone coming in past Hudson or Doi.
00:12:12
James Rigby
um for starting. Unless he starts in the cup and really impresses and the Luton game, maybe, in January. and But other than that, he's good. um Great backup, great strength to have there on the bench. But let's see what happens in January as well. I'd expect more competition to be coming in on the wings um for a Hudson or Doy type character who is right-sided. And I'm not saying I want to replace Alango, obviously he's doing great things at the minute, but to have, you know, a Hudson or Doy to play on the right wing, who's good with the ball in close control, ah fast, you know, is going to get there and whip that ball in, who can cut inside, bit like a sacker, you know, who knows what's coming and in January.

Murillo's Personal Moment

00:13:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. And, um, one thing I want to focus on is a specific player who I think had an amazing game was to stand up. One of them actually, not for me to get stuck the box, but, and that was Murillo is he one of those who every week you think he can't impress you anymore. And every week he impresses you even more somehow. And what do you think is to come from him in the coming months or coming years?
00:13:30
James Rigby
you know what i I just want all of these players to remember when these transfer windows come that Nottingham Forest are fourth in the Premier League and not to think ah it's a small club and be blinded by the big lights of Madrid or Manchester or Arsenal or Liverpool. you know Alexander Arnold wanting to go to Real Madrid now.
00:13:53
James Rigby
ah Liverpool gonna be looking at Aina and thinking we could he can do a job sort of thing so I wanted to remember that but Marillo man the guy's immense one thing one thing I don't like and in life are personally agenda reveal parties. I think it's a bit of ah an American thing, but Marillo absolutely smashed it then last week doing a gender reveal party on the pitch at the city grounds.
00:14:27
James Rigby
for his missus who's having a kid it was some of the photos made on socials and he had a whole like stage set up in front of the dugouts so she came out of the tunnel and then they did like all the poppers and powder and I think it was a girl or something something like that but loads of white balloons it was a girl there you go so the guy's just got it all hasn't he he's got the Riz he's got the
00:14:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah the girl was a go
00:14:56
James Rigby
Football, the guy's amazing and and having something they picked out a match of the day. Murillo's young and he wants to make those runs. He wants to get the ball and ah move the play forward. He wants to go out sometimes and and go for...
00:15:13
James Rigby
but a tackle a little bit further out than he should go, maybe, and and leave the them exposed at the back. But they trapped Milankovitch, right? um As Murillo moved, Milankovitch just kind of watched and moved to the side slightly to cover him. So as he goes, Milankovitch is always there.
00:15:35
James Rigby
ah covering um to make sure that he can have that flair and freedom. He can have the Brazilian flair and freedom while Milenkovic has got the Serbian kind of backbone and um covering at the back. So, but yeah, he's amazing. I can't. I just hope we can hold on for him, onto him long-term.
00:15:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
And um you mentioned about his gender reveal party at the city ground which he actually streamed on an instagram live stream do you think you think him choosing to have his gender reveal at the city ground as opposed to his house or a loved ones house shows his he's got a love for the club he's developing a connection with the club or do you think it's just a venue that can host one
00:16:02
James Rigby
Oh, did he?
00:16:17
James Rigby
right um I'm all about key memories in life, right? And when I wanted to brainwash my kid into being a Nottingham Forest fan, not that it takes much. So what key memories am I going to give him? So you take them to games, you know, and and those become the key memories.
00:16:35
James Rigby
If key memories for his family, for his first child are gender reveal party on the pitch at the city grounds, that goes down as like a memory forever, doesn't it? It adds some sentimentality to him playing here at a forest, not just being I mean, let's be honest, a lot of players are mercenary. They go into the highest bidder. It's a business. It's a job. um But if you can put in there, because he probably never heard of Forrest before he came here. You know, most of the players that come from South America, some from Europe these days, unless they follow English football, probably haven't heard of Forrest because our success was so far past.
00:17:18
James Rigby
um But you know, hopefully he's growing some roots.
00:17:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, so before we look forward to the Evertun game away at Goodison Park tomorrow, and before I go on a very long rant about Nottingham Forest Tactics recently, it's time to hear all about this platform that we are delivering this podcast on.

Defense of Nottingham Forest's Tactics

00:17:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Have a listen.
00:17:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
That was a quick advert about Zencast and the platform we are delivering this podcast on. Check it out. And if you want to make your own podcast, I'll give it a go. But first of all, James, before we look forward to the Tottenham game, I promise you this in our group chat, I am going to quickly give you a rant on our tactics.
00:18:09
James Rigby
Now, before you do, before you do, give everyone and the, which side you're coming at this from, because you text the the the group of us here, me, you, Mark, um and Stuart, about this rant you were going to go on.
00:18:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
But
00:18:28
James Rigby
And I genuinely thought you were going to go on a rant from like ah a side of not even Forest Tactics are rubbish, and we hate them, and da-da-da-da-da. Which side is it from?
00:18:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
I am defending our tactics, do not worry about that.
00:18:42
James Rigby
Okay, go for it.
00:18:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I've seen a lot of people on social media, every honor even Chris Kamara claiming for us to play on the away side, for us to play in boring football, you cannot maintain a good league position by sitting back and inviting a team to attack you.
00:18:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's a load of nonsense. The way you succeed in football is not by playing free-flowing tikitaka pretty football. The way you succeed in football is by playing to your strengths. You wouldn't pick up a player who is perfect for tikitaka football and f throw him into a Route 1 system where he'll barely get a touch of the ball. It's the same with Forrest. We have got one of the strongest defences in the league. We have got two really, really quick wingers and a very agile central attacking midfielder with a very clinical striker. Our strengths
00:19:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
are shutting teams out and attacking very quickly. That's what we've been doing. We've been sitting back, inviting the pressure because we know our strength is to not concede in that sort of situation. And we're using our other strength on attack, springing a quick counter attack, getting the ball to Chris Wood and finishing it. If you think that's boring and playing like an away side, go ahead and think that. But do not discredit a success of a football club for their tactic when all they're doing is playing to their strengths because it will upset you when they do and we will carry on doing well with this tactic because it's what we're good at and it works really, really well. James, do you have any thoughts on that?
00:20:11
James Rigby
I do have a few thoughts come to mind. First of all, you do win things playing tikitaka football, but only when you've got like Messi and, you know, all those really good players who can actually play that. And I always think, is it weird as footballers, like, that you look and think, oh because they've got to think they're the best, you know what I mean? You've got to back yourself to be a footballer. Do they look at some of these other clubs and think, oh, man, I wish we were as good as they are.
00:20:39
James Rigby
you know but is that a bit defeatist is are these just are you a born loser if you look at i don't know anyway so that's a a side note second one uh allen hansen match of the day telling um saying halfway through the season about man united that um there were nothing with kids because they've got a class of 92 playing basically and they won the league that season i'm not saying we're going to but what i'm saying is pundits don't know the backside from the elbow sometimes. ah Great to see Cami back, um but Cami probably used to pep ball, which obviously is isn't going too well at the minute. I think it's quite refreshing, and I've heard some pundits say, it's quite refreshing the way that Nottingham Forest are doing in it, because we've we've taken some of the good aspects as in playing out from the back, right?
00:21:33
James Rigby
We do play out from the back through our and arthur third, but as soon as we get to that middle third, we're not looking to let the other team reform their defence, let them get back in position. That's what we do. The other team lets us get back in position and our defence is so good because we get nine men and the goalkeeper behind the ball um and we're in our shape and we say right break us down if you can. um We don't let other teams do that because we know that tactic works so we're like we're not going to let you do it.
00:22:08
James Rigby
What we're going to do is we're ready to go. When we see the mistake or we dispossess you, the trigger goes, off you go, boys. Up the wing. They're out of position. Go. And that's how we're winning. where're we you know It's not hoof ball. It's not long ball football. It's smart ball football is what I'm going to call it. It's playing the percentages. Where's the percentage pass?
00:22:32
James Rigby
when um When we dispossess them and we're halfway through our half, it's the percentage pass to play um a long ball, a searching ball up the wing because you've got a langer bombing on um and wood bombing on up the middle.
00:22:50
James Rigby
or is the percentage ball to look sideways? Yeah you might have a chance of 100% pass completion if you look sideways and pass it 10 yards to your midfielder and then he passes it back to the centre back and then he passes it to the goalkeeper and we go around and everyone has a great day and we end up with high high pass completion percentages, high pass rate and and all that. But the percentage pass there was the percentage chance of of getting into a goal scoring position. And you'd got 0% chance of that playing sideways, but 80% chance of that going for the searching ball to a longer. So long mate, continue mate until teams figure it out and start, you know, playing against us properly and and stopping us doing that.
00:23:37
James Rigby
Do it, keep going. Sorry.
00:23:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, exactly. I've just been looking through some stats and I think the Brentford game and the Tottenham game are two very interesting stats to look at because people have been saying for the Tottenham game, our forest will not keep up top four form playing like this. They've only had 30% of possession. Can you really tell me a team in the top four is going through games with 30% possession? Yes, I can.
00:24:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
because it's not like we're winning games one nil, having one shot all game and 30% possession. we ah We have only had 30% possession, but we've only had three shots less than Tottenham. And if you look at Brentford, we had, what was it? 36% possession. We actually had more shots.
00:24:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
We're not playing this boring away team style football of only taking the chances when they come to us. We're making our counterattacking opportunities and we're having plenty of them. We get a good amount of shots away.
00:24:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
You just think we're playing poor football because the football we're playing isn't stereotypical top four football, but it's working to that effect.
00:24:45
James Rigby
couple of things on that. Yeah, a couple things on that. Before you start every game, there's one stat that counts. At the end of the game, there's one stat that counts. That's a scoreboard, right? You can you could lose one nil, and like many teams have, Spurs went away with 70% possession. But their stats, other stats, shots, shots on target, different things like that, weren't 70% better than ours.
00:25:13
James Rigby
you know, or weren't double as, if you were going to say, oh, possession equals shots and shots equal goals. Well, clearly it done sometimes, you know, and and this is what people complain that, talk sport, West Ham. West Ham fans are always on it, right? With the whole, and we want to play the West Ham way. We we don't want it to be boring. They were like that under Moyes, but Moyes was getting a job done.
00:25:41
James Rigby
and under Nuno I can imagine other fans of other teams who've been probably in the Premier League a little bit longer um and seen a bit little bit more success maybe in the past might be like This is awful. 30% possession. We're not having this. I don't care if we're winning. We're not having it. We're not playing the Man City way. We're not playing the West End way. But I'm like, we're not even Forrest. We have been in the doldrums and we've come back. We're all happy to be here, right? And we, whatever way works, we'll have it.
00:26:16
James Rigby
You know, we're not going to moan about what's working.
00:26:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:26:20
James Rigby
Nuno has come up with a way of, he's taken what Cooper started, because Cooper's all about the low block, innit, right? Low block, quick break. That's how he got us promoted, that's how he kept us up.
00:26:33
James Rigby
But then it wasn't working. ah Somehow Nuno has taken that, and he's created this medium block. where we don't invite them quite as far onto us as Cooper did. We've stepped out 10 or 15 yards.
00:26:49
James Rigby
and we're all about pressure. Early pressure on the ball up front, you always see spells in the game when you've got Wood, Elanga, Anderson, Gibbs-White, a few

Preview: Nottingham Forest vs Everton

of them chasing the defenders at the other end because once they make a mistake, we know we've got the quality to take a chance because we've done it in the past so many times. um And and that that was interesting at the game with Spurs because on about, I don't know, 78, 80 minutes, something like that. He hooked gibbbbles Gibbs-White and Anderson off and he bought on Jota and And you knew then, obviously we were going to the back five, which is shut up shop for Forest these days, we're happy. But then we'd still got the chasing of Jota.
00:27:43
James Rigby
Now, all through the game, Anderson and Gibbs White have been chasing, chasing, chasing, but we knew, right, we're taking a step back. We're taking a defensive move. We're keeping some of that, but we're protecting our star players um as such. um And Josh is going to do a bit of running round and he'll be there if we need the quick break, but we're going to consolidate and and keep what we've got now. You know what? Anyone who complains about it can go suck a fat one because We're winning.
00:28:14
James Rigby
We're fourth in the league, you know?
00:28:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Exactly.
00:28:17
James Rigby
What's your problem?
00:28:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Exactly. And we are running out of time. I don't know where the time's gone, but well before we have a quick look forward to Everton, it's time to give you a lovely reading on this podcast and what we're all about.
00:28:24
James Rigby
Mate, don't worry about it. Everton. Everton.
00:28:39
James Rigby
Woo!
00:28:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay that is a bit about our podcast and now it's time for me and James to look forward to tomorrow afternoon's meeting at Goodison Park with the mighty Everton who have not been so mighty in recent years James.
00:28:41
James Rigby
That's it.
00:28:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
What do you make of their season so far and how do you think it's going to go?
00:29:01
James Rigby
Well, I watched them play against City last, well, the other day, in Boxing Day, and thought to myself, oh, fucking heck, you know, they're doing all right, and then I realised they were playing the current City team.
00:29:13
James Rigby
I know they beat us, I don't know what happened there, but the current City team are absolute rot. I don't know. There'll be champions next year in the championship, but I don't know with Everton because their position in the league kind of says they're rubbish, but I don't think they are.
00:29:37
James Rigby
I don't think it's the the easy kind of free hit that people maybe think it's going to be. My lad thinks it's like, oh, we're going to be six nils ever. And, you know, I don't think it is. I think.
00:29:50
James Rigby
The Calvert Lewins back waiting to get back into his scoring, you know, into his shooting boots. We've got Everton's, their takeovers just happened and that's all gone through so there'll be a different feeling at the club. Things will be starting to turn on that. Mid-season, they're down at the bottom. This is usually when Everton do start picking up a few points and just managing to survive.
00:30:14
James Rigby
So I think it could be a tricky game, although looking at the stats of the nine and nine games that we've had home in a way, our XG away from home is better. We averaged two goals at home and 2.3 goals away from home. So our away form is better than our home form.
00:30:36
James Rigby
So I'm quite happy saying that, you know, away we will get a win. And as well, we, we concede less goals away, which is so random, isn't it? I think we're on something like 0.78 goals conceded in away games and somewhat like 1.33 at home games. So that says to me, you know, away are the better games for us.
00:31:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah and to me that's because our tactic most suits playing away from home but there is one thing I want to point out about Everton's tactic and that is that they play a 4-5-1 most of the time and that worries me because what I've noticed is that it seems we always struggle if a ah team finds a way to out overrun our midfield. City did it very well with kind of isolating Ryan Yates in the centre of the pitch and just having two or three play the ball around him That's how they open us up so easily. Everton with five in the midfield. Do you worry that that might leave us a bit outnumbered in the middle of the park, a bit outrun if we play our normal, very attacking midfield with Anderson and Dominguez being the two?
00:31:48
James Rigby
You know what? No, I don't. I'll tell you for why. I'll tell you for why, man. Because all I am seeing, right, is
00:31:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:31:59
James Rigby
Our two banks of four right sat there, as you see them, in defensive mode, and them coming on to us. And the minute that we snagged that ball, all their midfielders are going to be out of position. They've put so many in there. They're all thinking that they're getting a goal today. and There's going to be so much space in behind when they're not set.
00:32:26
James Rigby
that there's got to be goals. and I think we can defend Everton. Yes, City, as we said, did that with Yates, totally agree, outnumbered us, but City have something else. They have the quality inside the box in order to pass it around and and score. You know, we saw that with Docu coming in with De Bruyne and other players just kind of playing around us in our own box Everton don't have that. Everton aren't going to be outnumbering us in midfield and then charging through and playing Tiki Taka around the penalty spot and shooting. I genuinely think their quality in the final third is almost non-existent. So I'm quite happy, quite happy for them to outnumber us because if they're outnumbering us there, we're outnumbering them elsewhere.
00:33:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Exactly.
00:33:24
James Rigby
um It swings around about, doesn't it?
00:33:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, and um now I think it's about time to get onto our predictions for tomorrow afternoon's football match. James, what do you think is going to be the result?
00:33:37
James Rigby
but I think Line-Up will be very similar from previous games, the 4, 2, 3, 1.
00:33:50
James Rigby
So, ah and I'm saying it's going to be a shutout again. I'm going to say no goals to Evan. We're going to keep a clean sheet and we're going to win three you now.
00:34:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Not bad. Now, I agree that we're not going to have much changes to the lineup. I believe that obviously Yates is not able to play so I think we'll just replace him with Nikos Dominguez.
00:34:14
James Rigby
Yeah, no, you're right.
00:34:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
We'll replace him with Dominguez bringing hopefully Zach Abbott onto the bench and and I wouldn't be surprised to see Moreno sitting for Nico Williams because obviously Williams is on four yellow cards and that resets after this game so I can see Moreno coming in to avoid a Nico Williams suspension and results wise I don't
00:34:37
James Rigby
Okay.
00:34:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
think will win simply because with four wins on the bounce no way on earth do I ever see Forest go five wins on the bounce in any competition ever so I'm not going to go with a win but Everton have gone draw draw draw I can see another draw and you know what Everton fans will hate me because it'll be their they'll be their third four matches
00:34:50
James Rigby
Molly. Molly, you're killing me, lads.
00:35:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Sorry to do this to you James because I know no one wants this result. Nottingham Forest, nil. Everton, nil. I can see a defensive masterclass from both sides, a boring nil-nil draw and that's all I can see James, and sorry.
00:35:23
James Rigby
Mate, I don't even know if I can carry on talking to you. Nill, Nill, are you having a laugh? You're having a giraffe. Flippin' heck, you are a grumps.
00:35:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean Sean Dyche is Sean Dyche is ah a nil-nil manager basically. He's a low scoring games manager. We've got a very strong defence. They've had a few nil-nils against teams around us in the table. Arsenal, Chelsea, it feels so weird to say that they're around us in the table. And gaming at City was only 1-1. It will be low scoring. And we've not had a nil-nil yet this season. One's going to come from somewhere.
00:35:56
James Rigby
No, I'm not having it mate, I'm not having it, not at all. If you want it, no, no, we'll have it against Liverpool next month, right?
00:36:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
I would take that in our title decider.
00:36:05
James Rigby
Yeah, but this one, no. and We're gonna win. I can't, we are gonna get five in a row. I cannot see, well I can see how we wouldn't get five in a row, but I can't see that there'd be any reason that we wouldn't, like, we're gonna do it. Marley, come on, chin up.
00:36:25
James Rigby
Bit, bit, bit more chipper, nil, nil. I can't believe you wasted the energy, like, predicting that, sorry mate.
00:36:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
um
00:36:34
James Rigby
Yeah, we' we're gonna win. We're gonna win.
00:36:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, on that note, after a very long episode today, it's time to say but revoir goodbye and we will see you on Monday to talk about the Everton game.
00:36:47
James Rigby
the Nice one.
00:36:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hopefully not a 0-0. Hopefully we have beaten Everton and we can be all happy and talking because I feel like I'm going to get it in the neck as a bit of a curse if for it's 0-0 now.
00:37:01
James Rigby
ah far so but I'm going to destroy you on the group every time we score tomorrow. You're getting pelters. See you later.
00:37:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
