Breaking News: Marillo Signs with Nottingham Forest

00:00:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome back to the GSPN Daily Forest podcast. It's been a few days, but we don't want to disappoint you, our listeners, because we are returning with breaking news. Marley.
00:00:19
Marley
So on the official Nottingham Forest Football Club WhatsApp channel this comes with a video with his speaking on it and comes with a voice note which I've not yet had a chance to listen to as soon as I hop off I'm excited to listen but Nottingham Forest Brazilian centre back Marillo has just put pen to paper and signed a brand new Nottingham Forest contract believed to be valid for another four years taking him to 2029 which is massive news for the club and surely means that
00:00:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Perfect.
00:00:49
James
here
00:00:49
Marley
Real Madrid and Liverpool will have to hold off for another year to sign
00:00:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, definitely, definitely.
00:00:54
James
I'm paying about 20 million.
00:00:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think, yeah, we we we decided to do an episode today on the moments of the season, and talk about our top one or two moments in this memorable Lost in the Forest season so far.
00:01:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Marley, where does Marillo signing a new contract rank in your top few moments of the season?
00:01:15
Marley
Top five, possibly top three, potentially top one.

Transfer Window Priorities for Nottingham Forest

00:01:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Great news.
00:01:20
Marley
after.
00:01:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
James, also, whether it's James, how about you? How important is this news? or because Or is it almost we need to wait and see the details? Are we hoping it's not just taking it down the line and putting it in a release clause for the summer?
00:01:32
James
and There probably will be some sort of release clause and I still think it's got to be a top five. I think this transfer window was all about securing those and those three, Marillo, Aina and Wood. So one down, two to go. I know that Wood's not officially announced yet, is it? But there's there's been some rumours that that's getting close.
00:01:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think with ah Aina, I think he gets a contract extension when he gets to, I think it's 50 games for the club, like automatically, which is soon.
00:02:03
James
I'm good.
00:02:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
um So at least time down just to next year, but I think the club are trying to give him a three or four year deal, um but at least he's not going to, very unlikely to be leaving in the summer, at least, if this other club kicks in when he gets to the 50th appearance in the Garibaldi.

Strategies to Retain Key Players

00:02:21
James
Yeah, but no, but Murillo sign is awesome um because everyone, it's it's the thing of being one of the newly, I say newly promoted, but kind of bottom half clubs as people see you that you become a feeder club for the big six and for big teams around Europe.
00:02:40
James
So you always wonder how they can hang on to your Marillos, your Gibbs-Whites and different things. And all you can kind of do is make sure you sign them on to long contracts so that when it does come to them saying, you know, I want to go play for Real Madrid, they've got two or three years left on that contract and Real Madrid have to pay proper money for them.

Transfer Market Dynamics

00:03:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think it's quite an interesting time in the transfer market because after, as in Everton were punished, it seems that some of the big teams or bigger teams are beginning to take it slightly seriously, with PSR, um and a City have signed a couple of players in January, but that's only because they sold Alvarez for big money in the summer, and the likes of Man United and Spurs and Arsenal.
00:03:17
Marley
Thank you.
00:03:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
we are assuming they aren't going to splurge big in in the summer. So although we had that punishment last um last this time last year, I think that people are gradually going to get the get they get the idea of PSR and I'm not worried that we're going to be losing any players this January.
00:03:43
James
No, it's been so quiet, though, hasn't it? This January, even even um some of the smaller teams. and But did we see Burnley's announcement of their new new fellow with their little traitors?
00:03:56
James
ah Did you see the actual

Burnley's Player Announcement Video

00:03:58
James
announcement of the video?
00:03:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
I haven't seen the announcement yet now because I knew it was going to be Shelby so I didn't want to watch it although Burnley's announcements are pretty funny usually.
00:04:00
Marley
Yeah.
00:04:00
James
OK.
00:04:04
James
Yeah, they've got um a clip from season one of the traitors where if anyone doesn't know it's BBC and the traitors dress up in big hoods and you can't see who they are and it's kind of a big reveal when they come to murder someone. So one traitor takes his hood off and is reacting to who the other traitor is and is like, oh god, I believe it's you and then it turns around to a new clip which is Shelby taking his hood off and saying come on you clerics or something stupid like that but yeah yeah one is there as well
00:04:36
Marley
it's going to be strange when i'm looking at the early fixture before forest play the three o'clock kickoff going to the pub to watch it and then walk straight back out after seeing shelvey and joe warrell walk out
00:04:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, that'd be weird. You'd think that they aren't going to be friends, but Chelsea was not helpful in that run in two years ago, whereas Warhol was.

Football Dynamics and Personal Vendettas

00:05:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I don't know, football is um the game where you need to let let these personal vendettas go to one side. And yeah, I'm sure Warhol, although he isn't playing that regularly for Burnley, he's not been able to win this place back after an injury. I'm sure he'll be professional behind the scenes there, up in the turf more.
00:05:20
James
wow
00:05:22
Marley
Yes.
00:05:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay. So, um, Joe John, Joe Shelby against Villa was certainly not featured anyone's top forest moments in a, in a podcast.
00:05:29
James
No problem.
00:05:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
So let's go to happier times and talk about our favorite moments of this season. So far, Molly will go to you first. I think you've definitely been to the most matches out of any of us.
00:05:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
So is is your moment from a match you've been to, is it a moment you've seen on the TV or is it something that's happened in it in in a weather spoons around the game?

Season Highlights and Personal Experiences

00:05:51
Marley
I would like to say that all of mine are from in the stadium, but may I ask, would you like me to go in chronological order, no particular order, or the um order of how good they were, and how many do you want me to give you?
00:06:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think what what I like about you Marley is when we do these things you come out something completely out of the blue.
00:06:08
James
so
00:06:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Like recent podcasts where you can tip Jared Bowen to be England's starting right winger and when we did Nelson Oliveira as you're memorable on season one here or something so I want the best moment seen in the stadium and then a fully random moment that'll throw me and James.
00:06:31
Marley
OK, so best moment I've seen in the stadium so far. It's really difficult to pick because there are so many options as the last minute winner against Newcastle, Chris Wood, putting his one up against Liverpool. But I genuinely think the one I'm going to say is Morgan Gibbs-White. Slipping 1-0 with a lot of help from Ohana at Old Trafford because I think in such a tight game, we've come out organs blazing in the second half, gone 2-1 up early. I just, I slightly preferred it to the third goal, don't know why. The the scenes in the away end were absolutely amazing. And at that moment, it kind of felt like, because on the bus, on the coach, I'm not sure about the other coaches, all we were talking about is, oh, these players are so awful. Lenny Yarrow's awful. Xerxes awful. Just wait until half time and we're back on the coach after a 5-0 from him. but
00:07:30
Marley
It turned out that we walked out winners and really apart from that last stoppage time period when it was really tense, that game was, it was an amazing game. Didn't, you United it didn't look like getting their way back into it. Our strong defense showed and genuinely that, that goal kind of just summed it up. It was a strong start, got the goal pretty quickly, gives white score in it. So, and John Silver showed a lot of passion ah at that point as well. So yeah.
00:07:58
Marley
It's definitely the first one I want to mention is Morgan Gibbs-White scoring against Manchester United at Old Trafford and beating Man United at Old Trafford.
00:08:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, that's certainly impressive, James, but across the seas as a whole, pretty much everyone's beaten Manchester United at Old Trafford. But because because United are are United are still have the name Man United, I think I still agree with Marley.
00:08:17
James
yeah
00:08:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
It was such a memorable moment and memorable game, even though history won't, this won't go down in history as a classic Manchester United side at all.
00:08:37
James
The worst one ever according to Amory.
00:08:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I mean, but we'll we'll finish above Man United. If we somehow finish below Man United, then something would have gone ah horribly wrong. So for now, it was a great Gibbs-White goal, a great moment. I'm sure it was a fantastic away end, Marley. But yeah, as you say, this is not a historically bad rather than a historically good Manchester United team.
00:08:57
Marley
Yeah, sir.
00:08:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
So James, what's your first first moment of of the season so far?
00:09:02
James
um I've got two, I'll give you the first one. The first one, which I'm sure many Many fans will go away. It was the Liverpool game, the 1-0 win against Liverpool at Anfield. It's the one game this season I think that I've missed watching because I was at a wedding, best man at a wedding, and but there were Liverpool fans at the reception in the other room watching the game on their phones whilst I was dealing with my duties and they looked really glum.
00:09:33
James
But the I think the main reason is not just the the moment of scoring and the it was a classic like forest goal from this season, and you know, hitting them on the break and then just a one, two, three goal, a very quick move. But it's what comes after for weeks now, months even.

Key Victories Against Major Teams

00:09:55
James
ah me and my lad have been sat watching the scores and every time Liverpool play, yes we want them to drop points but we don't want anyone to beat them because we want to remain the only club to have beaten them this season because let's be honest Liverpool have been really good.
00:10:12
James
um And they're far away and you know, one of the best teams in the league, if not the best. Obviously, Forest are the best, so aside from Forest. um But yeah, that that game. And I think that was the first time that people sat up.
00:10:30
James
and kind of thought, wow, Forest might do something. you know Forest, when they play, are good. So we were having some okay results before then, but I think that's when it all started to kind of fall into place.
00:10:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, definitely. I think, um like you say, it is definitely a badge of honor that we are the only team A to beat in Liverpool and B will probably go't be the only team Liverpool won't beat.
00:10:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Of course, we got the draw last week, which means that we took in four points from six and we're well and truly in our Arnie slots head this season.
00:11:05
James
Yeah.
00:11:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Marley, how important was that win over Liverpool for you back in September?
00:11:11
Marley
It was huge. It was genuine. I genuinely believe it was the catalyst for the whole season so far because that game was kind of a, it was seen as a right off. The last two times we'd gone to Liverpool with the first time we'd pegged them back. We'd done really well. We lost by one goal and every time we scored, they responded from a set piece. But last season we got absolutely hammered. I think it was four nil. Matt Turner gifted Salah a goal later on to round it off, it was horrible. So I think going there, no one expected anything different. We were in the mind that we were going to be a bottom half club. And we ran out, won the winners in a defensively solid performance, uh, set a high mood in the camp, in the fan base. And I did jokingly say to my dad, just after the game before dad, if we beat Liverpool, I'm going to start saying we're winning the league. And so the second we won that game,
00:12:09
Marley
I went to my dad and said, dad, we're going to win the league.
00:12:12
James
Thank
00:12:13
Marley
And I do remember when that goal went in, I was at work watching, sneakily watching the game on my phone.
00:12:16
James
you.
00:12:19
Marley
I was in one corner of the shop. I ran jumping and fist bumping the entire length of the shop to the next, to the other far corner, celebrating that goal. So you could, ah and I was running around the warehouse celebrating.
00:12:32
Marley
One of the managers actually asked to asked me if I was, a if I had a mental disorder. So.
00:12:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
he a derby fan or he would say yeah
00:12:39
Marley
it had been felt lot Yeah. ah He doesn't really know football, but yeah, it's, it's kind of set the mood because it kind of told us we know what we can do. We're stronger than we actually thought we were. And maybe perhaps now we've got a big, big win. We know we can go toe to toe with these teams sets the tone of we're going to have a big season and no one's going to stand in our way.
00:13:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, for my my first moment, it was a game a couple of weeks after the Liverpool one. It was the two-all drawing against Chelsea. So I think for me, again, we're going back to October october now, ah that Chelsea game was where we kind of showed that the Liverpool game wasn't a fluke. Because even before, and back in the championship, I remember one year, Middlesbrough got promoted. We were the only team to win at the Riverside or something like that. So occasionally, you get small teams win at big teams.
00:13:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
But that Chelsea performance a couple of games later, a two-wheel draw with down to 10 men, the first coming-of-age performance of sales, I think that proved that Liverpool wasn't going to be a fluke, that we were going to get something and compete possibly even for a European place in this season. And also from a personal point of view, that was the first game I watched on my South American trip in an Irish pub in Buenos Aires, 10 a.m. kickoff, first person there, there that day, so that was another fun memory seeing Yeatsium, Wood and all the heroes in the in the Irish pub in Buenos Aires.
00:14:06
James
Nice, nice.
00:14:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
but After this, Marley, we'll go back to you for your second favourite moment or your second memorable moment from Forest this season.
00:14:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Go Marley, what have you got for us?
00:14:41
Marley
Alright, so quick question before I dive into it because I've got so many things I could say. Does it have to be but like ah something that nothing in Forest Football Club has done or can it just be something completely different which is loosely related to nothing in Forest Football Club which has happened this season? and
00:14:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I'm happy with the loosely related. Let's see if we can guess. I don't know, is it?
00:15:03
Marley
not right In that case, may I go last with my second one?
00:15:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
There we go.
00:15:09
James
OK.
00:15:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Sure, throwing it up.
00:15:10
Marley
and i think
00:15:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm very much looking forward to James. Looks like I'm munching a cough sweet or a candy. So I'll use a reverse format. So Marley was first first time, black second time, and I'll go last and first. So my my other moment I'll go for is Taiwo Awane's goal against Wolves on Monday Night Football a couple of weeks ago. um Now I know that Tai Tai Wo made yet leave and in January. He's unfortunately not played well in a couple of games since that Wolves goal. But what was so memorable about it for me was showing how happy everyone looked when he got that goal. And by everyone, I mean the fans on social media, um the players on the bench, the players on the pitch, everyone in the crowd that day, including you, Marley, just to show that we know we love Taiwo. He was our number one striker.
00:16:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
and the first season back in the Premier League now he's not but he's still there and he gave us a bit of hope that he might still be able to contribute and even if not even if he does go to West Ham he's still got that memory of one last moment in a Irish shirt scoring a goal and having his whole teammates mob him immediately after scoring at the
00:16:24
James
100%. It was a really good moment. um Yeah, because you could see how much it meant as well. Just the the release of all the,

The Importance of Goal Difference

00:16:35
James
I don't know, for him, just the release. Yeah, amazing.
00:16:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, and it could could come into handy with a goal difference. So after we missed our chance to build up a ah cricket score against Southampton this weekend, maybe it is going to come down to goal difference, that extra goal, that third goal against Wolves could make all all the difference come to the end of the season.
00:16:51
James
Right. I think there needs to be an Andy Taylor handicap. So I've had many ah games Andy Taylor ref'ed against you, you know, you get a couple of goals extra on the goal difference.
00:17:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think that's what he's trying to do for the other teams against us.
00:17:05
James
ah
00:17:08
James
Yeah, yeah, basically. ah So mine, my meable ah second memorable moment was the Villa game at the city ground, especially the last 20 minutes of the game.
00:17:20
James
The comeback, um unreal. you know and just The players, Villa, I don't think that could believe what was going on because the last 20 minutes of the game, even with a disallowed goal, and we didn't let it you know hold us back. we We just kept going and and we got what we deserved all too often in football games and in sport. You try and try and and you're undeservedly beaten or referees pop up and it kind of felt like that when VAR denied the goal for offside.
00:17:58
James
and but yeah we just kept going and I think it just showed massive resilience in the team to get the result, to get the result as a team um and the fact that afterwards ah Nuno um said in his interview and because they they were saying you know to Nuno that was very bold at the end there you know and Nuno was like no and no I was telling them stay back stay back and but they all just kept going and they kept running up there so I think they left themselves a bit a bit
00:18:29
James
more open than Nuno would have liked, um but that boldness and to go forward as a unit got us the win.
00:18:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I don't think we'd really shown that in the first couple of Premier League years. I think most of our wins, certainly the most common score we'd won games by, was 1-0, often through a Brandon Johnson or Taiwo goal in our first season and then would in the second one.
00:18:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
So you're right, if in previous seasons, both under Cooper and Nuno, we would absolutely have shut up shock for that 1-1.
00:19:02
James
Yeah.
00:19:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
And the fact is that, yeah, the players We're ignoring Nuno and going for the win. It shows the belief that they have, that's the crowd fully but fully with them to push on and get that win.
00:19:14
James
Absolutely. Can I just say as well, one refreshing thing that I'm hearing, and like pundits annoy me so much at the best of times, but one thing that I'm hearing during a lot of forest games, especially towards the end of the games when things start getting really open, the way that we play, it kind of turns certain portions of the games into a bit of a basketball game.
00:19:17
Marley
Yeah.
00:19:41
James
and teams are constantly from end to end we defend for our lives and it makes for exciting football and um that one of the most said lines is like you know welcome to the Premier League this is what the Premier League is all about you know or ill present the Premier League ladies and gentlemen because it is that kind of swashbuckling fast-paced football that we're playing and that's amazing but then you see other especially I've seen some Liverpool fans well salty about that 1-1 um And they're like, oh, Forest Plate anti-football. And I'm like, just listen to your pundits, you know. This is the Premier League. This is what they wanted it to be. They didn't want like slow build up and everything. They wanted lightning football that just had action, action, action. Well, welcome to the city ground.
00:20:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I don't get any anyone's complaints about um styles of football in general. I mean, maybe if you're an Everton fan, I can see why they didn't like Sean Dyche playing 10 men behind the ball at home. I get things like that. But in in general, football coaching and football management, it's about seeing who you have available and putting out the best 11 to win the game. It isn't about playing nice football. We just asked Russell Martin at Southampton playing playing nice football.
00:20:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
doesn't Doesn't get you anywhere. now Winning is is what gets you places.
00:21:02
James
You know, the the big difference with Forrest is being able to have 10 men behind the ball, but then five men in front of the ball in a few seconds. You know, that's that's the thing. The trap is so fast when released. and Well, we can see if people can't deal with it.
00:21:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Definitely. So Marley, how impressed have you been by Forrest's style of play this season?
00:21:26
Marley
I've hated people saying it's boring just like James because I've been sat in so many games this season and personally I've not been bored once.
00:21:29
James
Is he gone?
00:21:37
Marley
It's been such an amazing season, such amazing play really. I just love fast football so I love it when we break out really quickly straight to the other end of the pitch.
00:21:50
Marley
I love it when I know that any second when we're defending we're being pegged back We could have a 5v1 on their goalkeeper with Gibbs White, a Langer, Hudson, a Doy, Wood, and Anderson. It's amazing. I love the sort of plays we've got. It's so exciting, like Marillos just signed his new contract. You know that any second he could take on their entire team and end up in their penalty area before you could say Southern Fried Chicken. It's amazing. We're so unpredictable, but so exciting this season.
00:22:22
Marley
I don't get this boring football, I think it's just people who don't like the club and want to see us fail and are sad that we're top four.
00:22:30
James
Yeah, I mean, how many times have we seen it turn over on the edge of our box? Oh, sorry, Marley.
00:22:38
Marley
ah no I think it's ah ah think it's a bit of ah a lie because it

Defensive Strengths and Team Strategy

00:22:42
Marley
was happening on the cross over yesterday.
00:22:42
James
ah no
00:22:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, no worries, I'll only go James.
00:22:48
James
I was just going to say, you know, we see the turnover on the edge of our box, 10 yards from the edge of our box, and it's barbecue chicken from there. You know, Elliot Anderson playing some a mate amazing passes. and Gibbs White hangs around that center circle um area and then just bombs on. ah just And it's it's tried and tested now. Can't see why anyone can argue with it. And it's something that,
00:23:15
James
People go on about the possession. We've now got officially the lowest average possession, and less than 40%. No one's got less than 40%. Everton are next. And it's like we don't need the ball to score.
00:23:29
James
which seems so ridiculous. If you were first teaching someone about football, the first thing you'd say is get the ball and score. And yeah, that's what we do, but we're quite happy to play without the ball but for 60% of the time. And as a fan, you'd think, oh, that must be really boring to watch. It must be really like tedious, but you're just on the edge of your seat waiting for one of the players to pounce and get the ball back. Because when we do get the ball back,
00:23:57
James
our points to possession ratio is far in the way better than anyone else. It's absolutely unreal. You know, with one percent of possession we get more than one point per percent of possession.
00:24:11
James
so
00:24:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, maybe when no Nuno ball is proven concept being bottom of the you flip the possession table. So if you're lowest possession, they'll put you first in the table, not 20.
00:24:19
James
oh
00:24:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's just there's no reason why having the least position possession should make you 20th in that table, because we're playing so well with it.
00:24:29
James
Yeah.
00:24:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
So we should be first in that table, because as you said, the points it's we are doing well with no but with limited possession.
00:24:37
James
Yeah, it's it's ridiculous. like we It's not like Nuno took a bunch of average players and made them absolute ballers overnight. Like, yeah, we've got some really good players. We've got a solid defense, best defense in the league now. And that is the foundation. That defense, that back line and Matt Settles, without them,
00:24:59
James
Yeah, maybe we would be in a relegation battle, but they give the confidence to the midfield players and the attackers that they can leave them and bomb on. that they don't need to be and constantly, you know, doing it in England and screening the back four, and that everyone can bomb on because no matter what happens, Marilla or Milankovic, they're there, Aina's got the pace to get back, Williams has got some pace to get back. it's Yeah, that that back line just frees up the rest of the team. So when we nip in and get the ball, it's go time.
00:25:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Definitely. So we'll play our second advert and then we're looking forward to Marley to close out the show with his second memorable moment for this season.
00:26:09
James
I feel like there needs to be like a da-da-da-da-da-da on the end of that or something.
00:26:15
Marley
A bit of count now.
00:26:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
We'll clip a clip of you you singing it and have that next time.
00:26:20
James
Yeah.
00:26:22
Marley
Yeah, so my second moment is only loosely related to forest really.
00:26:23
James
oh
00:26:27
Marley
I mean, there's so many things I could have had, I could have had in chronological order. Morgan gives white being called up to England, Marillo being called up to Brazil. I could have had some random guy on the coach on the way back from Man United away falling over when we stopped at a red light while trying to go to the toilet.
00:26:46
Marley
All great shouts. But the one I've gone with is very, very loosely related to Forrest, but it's very, very relevant to this episode. And it is something that happened in the first international break and it is the formation and the founding of the GSPN Daily Forest podcast.
00:27:01
James
Hey! Woo!
00:27:08
Marley
Genuinely, I think there's big things to come from the podcast and I've fully enjoyed being a part of it so far. So excited about the future.
00:27:17
James
Good right.
00:27:17
Marley
So yeah, I'd definitely say it deserves to be up there.
00:27:21
James
Good light.
00:27:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
When we're looking back, when we're doing Champions League Tactics Tuesdays next year and crossover episodes with Stauber Bucharest and um all sorts of teams like that, where we'll look back on yeah that founding, as you say, Marley, the first international break, Mark's crazy prediction that this is going to be, we might get the conference league, then yeah, it's been great even doing this episode now, looking back on
00:27:26
James
Stop.
00:27:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
some of the previous moments. So James, I remember you saying, I think on your, your, your pod debut was talking about that wedding you at the, you at the stag do. Um, and then sort of me mentioning that Chelsea gave in, in Argentina.
00:27:52
James
Well.
00:27:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
So it's nice. We've already got these memories together of of episodes that we've done down throughout the season. And let's hope, um, yeah, we'll have a few more memorable episodes and memorable moments to talk about as we, as we do what, as we finish fourth, as we finish second, uh, 21st of January, watching prediction for the end of the season.
00:28:10
Marley
and hopefully for more popcorn James, do you want to start?
00:28:19
James
up for I was just going to say top four. top four um I think top four is going to be between... I can't see Liverpool slipping from where they are. I know that's the iconic Steven Gerrard mention, but I just can't see it happening. and So they'll win. I can't see Arsenal staying in second. I genuinely think Man City might go on a bit of a run.
00:28:44
James
and they weren't challenged for the title, but I can see them getting second or third. I just hope that between us, Arsenal and Chelsea, we can get one of the other two spots and stay in the top four.
00:28:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, i think we'll I think we'll finish fifth, and then we'll be hoping all all the coefficients work out. So maybe that's us speaking into the Champions League, maybe just the Europa League, but i think I think fifth, I think will be Liverpool first, City second, and then probably Chelsea and Newcastle.
00:29:10
James
and
00:29:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think Arsenal, you're right, could drop even even further down, but I think Newcastle, last weekend, except they're looking good, and yeah, Chelsea will They've had their wobble and I think they'll come back and say, I think we'll make faith and then it'll depend on the gods and what happens in Europe to depend on our European fate for next season.
00:29:30
James
Come back Grant
00:29:40
Marley
yeah for me it depends on the rest of this window and it depends on the next run of fixtures because honestly there are only four possibly five fixtures left that actually worry me um I have got high hopes I'm very confident I think we're gonna do really well honestly my prediction is third I think we'll come third then I am going to have to decide if I wear as I mentioned to the Southampton Labs last night if I wear the boxer shorts on my head the day we qualify for Europe over end of the season.

Aiming for European Competitions

00:30:14
James
No, no.
00:30:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
When do you want to see Marley's end up at James? When are we going to go for qualification at the end of the season?
00:30:18
James
Daily qualify for Euro. Daily qualify for Euro. and you know if Especially if we get guaranteed top four, if numerically before the last game, no one can knock us out of the top four.
00:30:30
James
You need to wear them for the game in the stand. It's at home against Chelsea, which could be a top four suit out anyway.
00:30:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Shoot out. Yeah, a final day shoot out.
00:30:40
Marley
ah That could be dodgy if a camera pans across Lower Bridgeford and you just see me with a a pair of boxer shorts waving above my head.
00:30:40
James
so
00:30:49
James
you Just carry a sign saying GSPM made me do it.
00:30:53
Marley
yeah
00:30:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
We've already got James, we've got we got you and Alfie making that great Our Glorious Banners shoot for the for the Luton games and that's all of us across across this pod getting to Our Glorious Banners.
00:30:54
Marley
Nick Britton made me do it.
00:31:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
You at a nice moment celebrating with your son, Marley with his buckas on his head.
00:31:07
James
Yeah.
00:31:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
So let's all all get on to Our Glorious Banners by the end of the season.
00:31:12
James
Can I just make one one last mention as we're doing like great moments of the season? And that is the Don, Mr. Marianakis, and that we really need um to, you know,
00:31:28
James
put some some kudos his way because yeah he's got a bit of a bad rap because he's a very passionate greek gentleman with a very shady past um and yeah he's he's got a hair trigger for saki managers he did some weird things with cooper keeping him in at times when maybe he shouldn't i don't know but this season ah he's just he's he's doubled down financially because he's written off what is it 160 odd million pounds worth of debt so that the club won't have to pay interest on it um in the the new rules that are coming in or have come in now um so that won't go down against PSR so he's written that off
00:32:15
James
which was unreal, put it into shares, something that you probably never consider cashing in on. um And the the guy is just, the way that he greets all the players after the game, down in the tunnel, the home games, fantastic.
00:32:32
James
referees might not like that so much. um But through thick and thin, the amount of times that I discuss with family members and friends about, oh, the you know FA had charged us with this now, Premier League had charged us with this, they're going after us with this, and everyone's been like, oh, Maranakis is going to cut bait. Maranakis isn't going to um stick stick with it because why would he?
00:32:55
James
why Why would he stick around if they just hate him? They hate us. But he has. He's stuck around. He's put his money where his mouth is. And I think that depending on which European adventure we're on next season, and he'll put even more money there to really try and push on.
00:33:14
James
So well well done, Evangelos.
00:33:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Definitely.
00:33:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Definitely looking forward to speaking about all the antics of Evangelos, Maranakis and all the future episodes of the GSPN Daily Forest because yeah at the moment in the GSPN with Premier League only podcasts so no Maranakis and the Championship we don't even have a GSPN Forest podcast Marley.
00:33:18
Marley
yeah
00:33:33
Marley
yeah I would just like to point out and put this on record on camera if we qualify for Europe I will do the underpants on my head on an episode but if we come down to the final day and we're in with a chance of qualifying for the Champions League, or have already qualified for the Champions League, I will wear boxes ah on my head to that game.
00:33:54
James
Yes, absolutely.
00:33:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's what we're perfect.
00:33:57
James
And that will make the difference.
00:34:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Captain Underpants leading us into Europe next season. Thanks all for listening. Apologies. We've been a a few days out out of sync. We've all been busy. James is still celebrating Christmas, it looks like, but we'll be back into our regular routine as Forrest push on for that Champions League spot.
