Marley's Concerns about Nottingham Forest vs Wolves

00:00:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome to another edition of Daily Forest here at the Global Sports Podcast Network. My name is Stuart and I'm previewing our Nottingham Forest trip to Wolves. Tonight as you listen to this is Marley. Marley, you were just showing off your tickets for the game. How are you feeling about it?
00:00:28
Marley
not not too confident if i'm honest but we'll be repping this shirt for the first time so i've followed all of that by repping it on the podcast obviously we repped it in pre-season away at Olympiacos but this is the first time wearing it in a legal competitive fixture
00:00:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, there must be some sort of record to get to what's included the cup game against Newcastle. So the 21st game of the season, all all in all, and to be wearing a kit for the first time, it's certainly quite and unusual. Is that why you're feeling not so optimistic? Do you think that it's going to might be an unlucky shirt or is there something you've seen in wolves, perhaps, which means you're not feeling so confident about the game?
00:01:08
Marley
Not really. We took ages to our OASIA in the promotion season and we went and batted Swansea 5-1 with it in it. It's more to do with the fact that we've reached five away win, well five wins in a row. I don't see us making that six wins in a row.

Impact of Wolves' New Manager

00:01:22
Marley
I don't think that's a very Nottingham Forest thing to do. As well as the fact that Wolves have got a new manager and so they could hot rocket with anything They could play it anyway and Nuno won't really be prepared to face it. He won't have much to go off with this manager at Wolves as well as the new manager-bounce will probably still be on a high.
00:01:45
Marley
so
00:01:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think that's the interesting thing.
00:01:47
Marley
yeah
00:01:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, I'm inclined to agree with you that the two factors perhaps as to why this won't be win number six in a row is first and foremost, six wins in a row.
00:02:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's unthinkable. It'll be unthinkable to any Forest fan for any of the last 20 years to be told you're going to be one game away from winning six in a row in the Premier League. And also the so second thing is Wolves under their new manager bounce.

Forest's Position vs Wolves' Relegation Battle

00:02:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
So as you say, I think they won the first two and then drew the second. So yeah, it's definitely is true that when we were looking at a few games ago, when we were looking at this run of fixtures, we would say Wolves would be the, if they were going to win any, it would be Wolves, but now the tables have turned after the sacking of ah Gary O'Neill. But despite that, we now,
00:02:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
good that we can get this crazy sixth win in a row? Or do you think we're not so good enough that we can simply brush teams aside and that we might be confused by our new managers, new team and new formation?
00:02:48
Marley
I do think it might be a bit of a ah spanner in the works that they've got a new manager that we're looking at something we don't know, we don't know what sort of formation he's likely to play, if he's still experimenting, what tactics he's likely to pull out. All we do know is that it's wolves and we can expect wolves to still play to sort of Wolverhampton wondrous culture. So we can kind of go off that, off what we've played against them before, try and counter that. If it's not working and at half time, as long as we go in minimum,
00:03:17
Marley
Well, maximum 1-0 down. We can find a way to fight back and counter what they've come out with. But it could be a first half, see it out, second half, attack him, knowing how he's playing and knowing how to counter it. I trust Nuno to know what he's doing. Obviously, I've seen him pull off master classes too many times this season to not trust him. And I'm just hoping for another United away.
00:03:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think the interesting thing about this game based on the the weekend results is that both teams, Forest and Wolves, have had positive results in the other games. So Ipswich failed to beat Fulham today, meaning Wolves stay out of the bottom three, and Chelsea failed to beat Crystal Palace, meaning Forest stay in the top three. So we're almost at at a time, at a point where both teams will be happy with a draw and then they'll stay as they are going into the FA Cup break. Do you think there's is's a bit of that Marley that both teams are going to be happy with the draw?
00:04:20
Marley
Um, I think we'll be the happier with a draw because again we were not expected to we weren't expecting to be where we are wolves like in a bad in a good way we were expecting to be a lot lower down the table wolves weren't expecting to be where they are but in a bad way they weren't expecting to be a lot higher up the table so wolves will at the minute be definitely more wanting a win to try and accelerate away from that bottom three because should we win they will be Basically, level on points with Ipswich or just behind Ipswich. Level on points, I think it is, yeah. And if we draw, there'll only be one point above Ipswich. Ipswich can still overtake them in the next round of fixtures. Whereas with us, we will still be in the Champions League places, come next round of fixtures and probably afterwards. Not definitely, but probably. And even if we're not, we'll still be in Europa League. So I think in terms of we'll still be in Europe, but they could drop into relegation.

Rivalry Between Forest and Wolves

00:05:17
Marley
we're a lot happier with the draw. I think they'll need a win and if I don't get one they'll be very disappointed.
00:05:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think think that's the case. It is certainly a bigger game for wolves than it is is for us. So back on the third game of the season, when we met at City Ground and it was a one-all draw. as you said So back then, would we have expected for some wolves to be 12th and 13th by the time they played each other again in January? That was probably the thinking back in August, right? Or could you already see in that game, signs of forests, brilliance, signs of wolves, less so.
00:05:54
Marley
Uh, not really. I mean, there were some signs that we were playing well in the last preseason game against, uh, Olympiacost. You saw, especially from Anthony Alanger scored a great goal, solo dribble. Wolves and Forrest, though, beginning of the season, I'd expect Wolves and Forrest to both have been down there. Yeah. Uh, I wouldn't have expected, uh, us to be Europe than to be relegation. I expected us both to be 14, 15, 16 sort of area.
00:06:25
Marley
And if I'm being quite honest...
00:06:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, but still, in ah and in the same thing, I mean...
00:06:30
Marley
Yeah, if I'm being...
00:06:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, so would you say that they're only... I mean, a lot of other talk in the forest. ah Timelines on social shows has been that Wolves is only decent player. Mateusz Konya is suspended.
00:06:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Do you agree that he is Wolves' is only decent player? I do. I mean, I can't think of anyone who is gonna cause major, major troubles.
00:06:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, sort of have some ah decent players, like Strand Larston and Quang yeah che But yeah, they are not on the level of Kunya and I expect it with the exception of Kunya, I wouldn't take any wolves player in the forest team at the moment.
00:07:05
Marley
Yeah, I wouldn't say they couldn't use their only decent player because Wanki Chan is quite good. Sam Johnston is a quality goalkeeper. They've got a few decent defenders like Totti Gomez, but he's definitely their standout player and not having him when he makes the cogs tick will be a massive downer for them without an out. They will definitely struggle to adapt to life without him, but I don't honestly believe that it will take them any more than a half to find a way to cope without him temporarily, if you know what I mean.
00:07:37
Marley
But, yeah.
00:07:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then the other storyline going into the game is the return of return of Morgan Gibbs White, who was of course a wolves local hero, a local favorite amongst the wolf support. But of course, over the last two years or two and a half years, there have been some spicy fixtures between forests and wolves. ah Therefore, across our whole two and a half years now in in the Premier League, I would say wolves have been our biggest rivals the biggest local rivals across the three years because Leicester weren't always in the Premier League. They weren't there last year and Sheffield United aren't there this year or the first year. So would you agree with that, Marley? The Wolves are up in our biggest local rivals in our premier this Premier League era.
00:08:21
Marley
I wouldn't, I don't really want to say biggest local rivals because we're not rivals with Wolves. We never have been, we never will be. But they are our, they're not even our most local team. Villa are our most local team. But without Leicester, they're our third most fierce fixture at the minute after Leicester and Villa. Derby not counting because they've not been in the prem while we've been up there. So there is a bit riding on that as well as obviously Gibbs-White scoring the penalty against Wolves and then doing the thing, leading to Cunya doing the thing, leading to Colbach doing the thing, leading to then Dean Henderson doing the thing after we won, Henderson doing it after saving the penalty, and then every time each team has scored, really, they've clapped back to Johnson and Gibbs White did it when we scored, then whoever scored for them did it, and it's just become a thing, a back and forth thing. Obviously, it's Gibbs White's normal celebration now, but I can imagine a bit more
00:09:19
Marley
Fingers and ears back and forth this week, ah not it's not even weekend, tomorrow, and see who gets the better, really. Hopefully we get the last laugh and the last fingers and ears.
00:09:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, with the does that Emmanuel Dennis. um playtime, tweet, and then wolves in the first year when they're dreadful marks on a Saturday in October 2022, and then their comeback tweet, playtime's over. So I think, I know that Aston Villa is literally closer than Wolverhampton is, but I would certainly say I don't yet see Villa as a local rival purely because there's been no spark to our game of Aston Villa. It's largely friendly.

Squad Changes and Strategy for the Wolves Match

00:10:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
There are players like Matty Cash on the Villa team who
00:10:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
who we like. um Broadly, as a fan base, I think, yeah, that the Dennis incident and the Gibbs White fingernails mean for me that Wolves have been the fiercest rivals, um even though not not literally in terms in terms of distance. Of course, not to guarantee the closest rival in distance. I don't think the annual pre is preseason friendly and medallane has ever been anything more than a kick about for both of both teams. So, yeah, I would certainly like to get one over on Wolves. It's always great seeing Gibbs-White celebrate it in that way. That was a fantastic Forza Garibaldi Tifo. um Was it the Fulham home game in April? Showing sharing that famous, famous fingers and ears celebrations. Yeah, I think i think Wolves are a team. I mean, I would prefer them to go down the Nip Switch purely because it's always disappointing for the wider game when all three promoter teams go down, as happened last year. Are you the same or do you,
00:11:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Just happy as long as it's not always going down, you don't care about the bottom half of the table at the moment.
00:11:09
Marley
Yeah, I've got close family support, Ipswich, Sean, I'm rooting for them to stay up. I'd love them to stay up. Darby, between us, is always so fun in the family. ah Not much banter anymore, but i just really want them to stay up but at really
00:11:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, yeah, I think it's a mixture.
00:11:24
Marley
and
00:11:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Compared to Luton last year, who we'll be reconnecting with her in a few days' time, of course, Luton seemed to maybe because we were in the relegation battle with them, we sort of had a lot of ah online spice between forest and looting fans, a bit of um agro, but we had with Ipswich because we've um had a pretty straightforward one-nil victory over them, no controversial red cars, no controversial incidents, I think. Both sides, Ipswich fans would be happy to see forests in the top ah half, charging for Europe, and forests can certainly be happy seeing Ipswich stay up.

FA Cup vs League Priorities for Forest

00:12:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
So to the game and and and the team, she and Marley, I guess the big question is, assuming Marillo and Callum has an adoring outfit, which all reports who suggest they are, would you put them straight back into the team?
00:12:10
Marley
Yeah.
00:12:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Or would you stay unchanged? Or would you do something completely different, entirely taught me through your team?
00:12:21
Marley
Personally, I would stay pretty much the same. As normal, I would put Matt's sales in goal. Obviously, there's no other option. Carlos Miguel won't be thrown in because Matt's sales is in such great pull.
00:12:33
Marley
and Full back positions. As much as I love Moreno, I want to stick with Ina and I want to stick with Williams. Moreno may be coming off a bench, but Ina and Williams are in such good form in a minute. I think it's unfair to drop them. Center backs obviously, bring Morello back in and start Milenkovic. The only reason I could see Morello not started is if he's in contract negotiations with another team. But that won't be happening this window and if it will be, it won't be happening this early. Midfield, I would
00:13:04
Marley
keep Dominguez put Yates back on the bench and I would start Elliot Anderson and Gibbs White would say because Yates has not impressed me he's been doing very well but in his absence Dominguez stepped up to the plate and he covered so much he covered every blade of grass against Everton really impressive and I think we're gonna need that against Wolves so I'd put him in Gibbs White obviously and Elliot Anderson partnering him that partnership will never ever fail to amaze me and the front three, Callum Sandoy, Anthony Alanger and Chris Wood is just obvious really. it is such touching On form front three, especially Alanger and Wood were scoring every week now and assisting every week now, it's just, it's like clockwork with those two or those three and I cannot wait to see them cooking at Molyneux this Monday.
00:13:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I mean, I wouldn't put a case forward for any any changes um to two to the line that you suggested. um The only um possible change would be if Marillo is not a 100% fit, and I mean 100% fit, I would leave Marato in there even if Marillo is on the bench. um Because I know that we've seen before in previous games, Marato coming on to make it five at the back,
00:14:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
imagine what a Wolves forward line would feel when they see Marillo as the option on the bench to make it five at the back, then we know there'd be no chance of them getting back into the game in that situation. So if Marillo is not fully, fully fit, I'll stick with the Marato, then Marillo will get an extra nice rest. He'll be resting for losers, of course. Then he'll be ready to go for Liverpool, which will be a week to a week on Tuesday. So just eight days after the Wolves game, it's Liverpool at home.
00:14:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
See if Marillo is not perfect, then I say, rest him ahead of that Liverpool game.
00:14:58
Marley
yeah i mean it'll be a bigger more difficult game massive in our title battle which it feels so cocky saying it but i honestly don't think it's too far fetched i don't think there is a title battle but we're invited to a title battle podcast so we can save that it's a massive game in that
00:15:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, whatever happens, it will be thirdly first. So because even if we lose to Wolves, we can't of course go down a position because we're the last to play this weekend. So whatever happens, that far to Liverpool game a week on Tuesday, it will be thirdly first. It will be the the biggest game of of that so round of fixtures in the midweek, which is why things like not risking Barillo unless he's perfectly fit in 100% condition.
00:15:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
you know I don't think it's worth it. So again, looking ahead with that Liverpool game on the horizon. So from that 11 you just listed, would you go for a completely different 11 for Luton on the FA Cup on Saturday, just to give players we haven't mentioned in their shot, we're talking about Jota, Taiwo, and Ramon Sosa as a front three, Carlos Miguel, Eric De Silva Herrera, Moreno, Bollie on by Muhammadelli, whoever missed, Ward Prowse,
00:16:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
and maybe even a De Niro Sangari over there, possibly Fitz, no Yates, of course Yates, if we're not starting him up against Wolves.
00:16:18
Marley
yeah
00:16:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
We've started on Luton, would you agree with that, making full 11 changes, or would you rather see a stronger team put out in the FFF game?
00:16:20
Marley
yeah hello other
00:16:27
Marley
11 changes without out 11 changes has to be 11 changes for losing I don't want us when we're in such a strong position in the league I don't want us risking anything any players in the courts any it has to be
00:16:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I completely agree, even though I would love love a cup run, but we don't need a cup run this year to salvage our season. This season is going to be stepping up to be a memorable one anyway. um So yeah, I mean, when we go out in the epic cup, I don't think we even that team we've just described, it should be more than enough to overpower a poor Luton. I think, should we, the and unthinkable happen and we do drop out against Luton.
00:17:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
We'll both bounce straight back without first choice 11 against Liverpool.

Loan of Andrew Amabamadele to Leeds

00:17:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, it's not at all going to be like FA Cup third round two years ago. And we got back to 4-0 or 4-1 at Blackpool with a similarly changed team with 11 changes from the the league game before, which was the 1-0 Southampton win in that first season. So yeah, I'm more than happy to see 11 changes made for Luton at home without really being in danger of us losing that Cup game.
00:17:33
Marley
yeah I mean, we did well with a B-Team playing against Newcastle. I don't see any reason we can't play well with a B-Team playing against Luton Pound, who are championship obscurity at the minute, right down towards the bottom of the table. They are awful.
00:17:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, definitely. And Luton aren't likely to make changes as well because that's the unfortunate thing about the money involved in the FA Cup. It's really not that much. So Luton will also probably make a few changes in their bid for championship survival. um Speaking of the championship, that the last topic on the agenda today is that Andrew Amabamadele seems likely to be heading to Leeds. I saw earlier it will be a loan with an obligation to buy.
00:18:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
which I think is a mistake. I don't think there should be any buy clauses there, because I think we should reassess him in the summer after what will hopefully be a productive few months on loan at Leeds. What's your thoughts, Marley? Would you rather get a long-term future at Forest, or if the money is right and Leeds are willing to pay, are you happy for him to move on, bearing in mind the other defenders are already at the club?
00:18:39
Marley
I don't see any player personally at the club who I don't see having a long-term future with the club so I take the long-term future option without a doubt.
00:18:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, definitely. I mean, he's young, he's got 22, he's won an international caps, and he's certainly a useful option to have around. I think it'd be strange of this lone move what's happened before that FA Cup game, because I would certainly see him playing at 90 minutes. I said we've we've mentioned that ah fully changed team. I mean, we do have that the players, if it's just Bolly and Marato coming in instead, then we don't need neither of

Predictions for Forest vs Wolves Match

00:19:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
them. I'm a deli for looted, but I would like to see him given that final chance in the Garibaldi this season before we load him out to Leeds.
00:19:23
Marley
Yeah, I mean...
00:19:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I think, Marley, that all that leaves us to do um is predict the Wolf's score and if there's any other transfer topics still on your mind is this evening.
00:19:37
Marley
Um, for my school prediction, without further ado, is... James, cover your ears. Wolverhampton wonder is nil.
00:19:49
Marley
Nothing in forest nil.
00:19:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
a controversial score of prediction. Let's ah and okay so watch this space, ah listeners and and viewers. If James and Marley win the next one together, there's sure to be some harsh words spoken about a prediction from Marley that hopefully won't come true. um So why why do you think there'll be Neil Neil out of interest? um And he said before that Alandra and Wood are clicking now. So what why do you think they're run of goals and assists together? We'll come to an end here as well.
00:20:21
Marley
obviously we've got a very strong defense and wolves without Kunya their attack will be on the lacking side which is why I don't really see much coming from their attack so I think we all have no problems keeping a clean sheet but on that note I think they'll make themselves extremely compact difficult to break down and when a team does that at their own ground we've seen at the city ground it can be very very hard to get through in school and I just don't see us yet as a sort of team who can pull goals out of thin air in that sort of situation like other teams could. So that's why I think it's going to be a very entertaining nil, well boring nil in a way because it'll be one sided, but entertaining the fact that we'll have a lot of chances, we'll just won't be able to fully break them down and that's why I just think I'll end nil nil.
00:21:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm going to go more optimistic then because you're right, I don't think it'll be the most exciting game in freezing temperatures. let Let's hope the game takes place because I think we we need it to take place now. I don't see the value in having a fixture congestion and a fixture pile up later in the season. I'd rather get this game over with now. The players have had an eight day break since Everton. But because of that and the form we've been showing, I can't see Forrest not winning this, I'm going to go for going to go for one nil.
00:21:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
The reasons you said wolves are going to put 11 men behind the ball for lots of it, but I think we've still got enough attacking variety. You saw the goals against Everton showing we can do quick intricate passing and the innovative finish from wood, which is why I'm going for a one nil win for Florence against wolves.
00:21:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
So Marley will be um back with us on the podcast later in the week to tell us all about his trip to
00:21:56
Marley
a
00:22:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
to the West Midlands. Am I in any final words but before we wrap it up this episode?
00:22:08
Marley
Come on you reds, forest of magic and we are absolutely massive.
00:22:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Couldn't say that better myself. Thanks for listening and we'll see you all after the game.
