Introduction and Initial Reactions

00:00:02
Mark
every club, every day. The Global Sports Podcast Network. Welcome back to probably one of the most solemn episodes of the GSPM Forest Daily podcast this season. ah Not our day today. Hi, Stuart.
00:00:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I mean, I don't really know what, how to approach this really, because we've been doing this podcast all season. And yeah, this is the first time I felt really deflated after after watching Forrest.
00:00:33
Mark
We were there like two weeks ago, like, you know, I hope we don't get battered by Liverpool, don't lose the confidence, don't want lose the momentum, get a draw, get another

Analyzing Forest vs. Bournemouth Performance

00:00:41
Mark
win under the bag of Southampton. And ah then that, I mean, wow. I mean, to be fair, it doesn't look like we played too badly, just didn't have as many clicker chances as them and maybe didn't take them as well. But Bournemouth were a good team. Me and Marley were chatting yesterday about, you know,
00:00:55
Mark
Well, yesterday, Friday, about, um you know, how dangerous Bournemouth can be. And, you know, how we'd be chuffed for a point, but I wasn't expecting five nil, Christ.
00:01:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think it's just a case of everything that could have gone wrong from a performance side did happen. As you said, we just weren't creating the chances. And then they they did with a couple of their goals, you know, waltzing straight through the defense. And I think, yeah, unfortunately, it was just a case of that strong back four, A&M, Marillo and then Commission Williams, all four of them had their off day at the same time. um Yeah, I'm trying to stay at base and try and use the old cliches that happens in football. We we have off days, but equally, yeah. Brighten next weekend, can't come soon enough. And then we can really tell whether this defeat was a one-off or whether it was the start of a worrying trend.

Impact of Injuries and Star Players

00:01:46
Mark
Yeah, all teams always have a blip in a season and we know we knew ours was coming at some point. Maybe that is one of our blips. Five-0 is quite a heavy to defeat, but Bournemouth do look good this season. A lot of good attacking players. and you know We didn't worry about them going forward at a lot of pace. Clyvert's been on fire this year. But it was Watarra that got a hat-trick. And like we saw, you know, when the Bournemouth team came to the city ground first season round, Billing was the star man. Following season, Selenke got a hat-trick. And then this season,
00:02:12
Mark
First game of the season, Evan Olsen hadn't signed. Semenya stepped up. Evan Olsen's now injured. And Watara gets a hat trick. I think if we play Evan Olsen, we might win.
00:02:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, maybe that. Maybe it's ah because we haven't played against their star strike and they've got all these other players stepping up to the plate, like you say. I mean, yeah, to be honest, Atari is one of the players who I've had to look at on Wikipedia this afternoon, he'd sort of with all the players who'd who would pass by because in the general watching of of Premier League football. He's not the kind of player who gets his own highlights, his circle around him on match of the day. But yeah, he obviously something they're doing right in terms of the scouting of those hot, young attacking players are doing doing quite well at Bournemouth.
00:02:58
Mark
Well, yeah, and I mean, he looked relatively dangerous when he signed. I think he was about 15-20 million when he first came in, young lad. Fast, pacey winger, and essentially they've they've stepped him in as a striker in the midst of the gap while um Evan Olsen's injured. But, I mean, you know, if you look at their front four, Evan Olsen, you'd probably put Clyver, maybe Semenyo, and probably Tavernier when he's fit.
00:03:23
Mark
ah behind Evan Olsen. So Wotaro doesn't even get into that thought and he's got a hat trick today. I mean, that is some depth, that isn't it?

Ownership Influence and Strategic Moves

00:03:31
Mark
Crikey.
00:03:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I mean, I think guess we'll come on to depth later on in in the chat, but that's where maybe we are unfortunately like lacking a bit at the moment.
00:03:36
Mark
Yeah.
00:03:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
We've got our really impressive front four. So Gibbs White, Alanga, Hudson and Adoying, they've all had their different um turns in the spotlight, but with Hudson and Adoying out today, meant Alanga was pushed out to the left and Jota came in.
00:03:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
And unfortunately for us, Jota, who's Al Rotaro in terms of his place in the pecking order, just didn't have that expected today.
00:04:04
Mark
Yeah, 100%. And it is difficult, isn't it? Because you you try and figure out tactically what's going to work against the Bournemouth team who were informed, very well coached by Iraiolo. It didn't look like it was going to work at first, but he's really got them ticking.
00:04:16
Mark
Big back-in as well from, you know, Michael B. Jordan. I mean, that's going to bring back that. Do you know what I mean? That's going to be the Hollywood effect.
00:04:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I mean, it's it's it's not so much a fairy tale, you're right, when you've got these, I think Bill Foley is the main billionaire owner, then one of the minority shareholders is you're right, Michael B. Jordan, who It's been seen at the vitality a few times and he's going to, as you say, bring attention, extra exposure. And eventually we are going to see Bournemouth established in the Premier League if you can't count numbers established already.
00:04:43
Mark
Yeah, when I was chatting to Marley about Welcome to Rexxum, I've been catching up on the old Ryan Reynolds series by them taking over Rexxum. And it kind of just feels like a similar story to that, like Bournemouth with you know Michael B. Jordan involved. Obviously, we've got Marillakis, so we cannot complain because, you know, heavily linked with Mateus Cunha, which, by the way, how are we pulling that off?

Squad Depth and Champions League Ambitions

00:04:59
Mark
I mean, we've we've had some good signings this season, but why if we get Cunha, we're like, wow.
00:05:04
Mark
and
00:05:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think the Q&A chances, do you think they would increase after today? I mean, in previous years, we have seen rash decisions from Marianakis this year. He's been a bit more, starting more measured in the transfer market, but now, because he's going to see, possibly even after, because there's there' only a few days left in in the window now, maybe he is going to overreact and say, all right, I need to go all out to get that top four spot, because this is our best chance of getting there.
00:05:32
Mark
Yeah. And so every forest fan, if we do sign Mateus Cunha, if the song Hakunya Matata is not sang at forest, I will be raging. What a wasted opportunity.
00:05:42
Mark
Do you know what I mean? Hakunya Matata, what a wonderful day it would be as well.
00:05:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, definitely.
00:05:46
Mark
Do you know what I mean?
00:05:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
It would be it would certainly would be.
00:05:48
Mark
Um, yeah, like with Vissa as well, some good players. And you know, you look at a lot of these strikers pace up front is important. I think, you know, look at Vissa kind of wingers being converted to strikers as a second option to kind of a big lad.
00:06:00
Mark
Do you think we need that?
00:06:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think there's even... um and even if Taiwo Awani had been fitter and more more sharper off the bench this season, which unfortunately it's not not quite working out for him at the moment, we certainly would need the extra options. I mean, what we tried last year with our three strikers were Wood, Taiwo and Divock Origi. I could see the idea in in in in theory, Origi coming to a playing out wide and also through the middle, when unfortunately his best days had ah had deserted him. But but that it was the right idea. I mean, I would certainly
00:06:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
I was happy when we signed Divock Origi. He was the right signing because we needed that third third option to play either as a nine or on one of the wide positions. And we just don't have that. So yeah, either Whissa or Kunya, based on their established Premier League experience, I'd certainly rather push the boat out and buy one of those two rather than take a gamble on ah someone who's not played at this level, like Jota or Ramon Sosa, as talented or as high a potential they might have.
00:07:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
They just aren't quite doing on a consistent enough basis for us if we are going to secure that top top four or top five finish.
00:07:10
Mark
Yeah, yeah, before we get to the first ad, let's talk just briefly on depth. I think with the Zuata and Zuata, they look like exciting additions, you know, potentially for the future could be quite good. Haven't quite reached it yet. And, you know, for the start of the season, it was like, oh, we've got these new exciting wingers who might be able to play in different positions, might be able to play up front, maybe in number 10, you know, versatile, they can cover a lot of things. But I think the issue is, because they were the exciting options, because we are now a genuine top four challenger,
00:07:38
Mark
provided that we stay in the form that we've been in recently. I think the issue is, because we're now in that position, you need people who can't be... Callum Hudson or Doy or Langer really gives white level to back you up, don't you? That's that's kind of become the issue for them.
00:07:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, completely. I mean, it would be really interesting to find out if our recruitment team, if they had, I mean, they they should do this. It kind of makes sense. I've had three lists going into January.
00:08:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
A list of players to sign if we're struggling for relegation. A list of players to sign if

Podcasting with Zencastr & Season Challenges

00:08:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
we were mid-table lower top half. And a list of players to sign if we were pushing for top four, which we are.
00:08:11
Mark
Mm.
00:08:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we saw he just made his debut for City just now. Omar Marmouche was maybe on that top four list and he's became out of our reach. So I'm hoping that there is a double in value since the summer when we we also signed him.
00:08:22
Mark
Yeah. 59 million.
00:08:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I mean, fair play. He had a very, very good half season for fine track Frankfurt. But yeah, those kind of players we should be looking at, we should be looking if we were going to pay 30 million for him.
00:08:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
That means there's got got to be 30 million somewhere. So we need to spend it if we want to be pushing for the top four, the seven, eight million. You have to, so the types are great. If we're going to, if we were trying to link along in mid table, we aren't. So we need to go for a bit more experienced, a bit more quality to add strength to the 11 and not just strength to the bench at this point.
00:08:59
Mark
Yeah, 100%. And obviously, we're on Zencast right now, the platform. And and we yeah were just finding it really great as a company to use at GSPM.
00:09:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it is it's it's a perfect tool. We've got the video and or audio and it syncs the AI clips it creates to be pitched out to our socials that are pretty cool. I mean, we've mentioned Tyro Aonie a couple of times this episode and Zincaster AI, nine times out of 10, it gets the spelling right on the AI clip. So it certainly has been listening to us learning learning what we're talking about and getting the names of those more complicated forest players correct. So yeah, it's definitely great to use Zincaster.
00:09:37
Mark
Yeah, the AI is actually, it's almost too good. Like sometimes it's so good that it will like, like when it captions the videos, it will throw you under the bus accidentally with like comedy captions. It's like slightly worrying. I'm always like really careful as to what I say on the podcast just in case Zencaster, you know, tells the world like I'm an alcoholic or something and I'm like, no, no, no, no, that's not what I meant.
00:09:59
Mark
But hopefully people will watch the clip and listen, but um it's really good. And essentially once you've recorded your podcast, you can just no click post and it essentially generates the clips for you, doesn't it?
00:10:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it's really great to use. I think if you take a look at the show description as a referral link so you can try it for yourself for your podcast.
00:10:17
Mark
Yep. Whether you want to do it for podcast or whether you just want to record some audio for yourself. I've used it a lot before as a presenter and it's just really easy. Dead easy. Back to Forrest though. We're talking about um depth, right?
00:10:30
Mark
do you I mean, our recruitment team are doing fantastically. I mean, you look at Marillo, Danilo, when he's fit, you know, if you can emulate the success of, of Marillo as well, you know, you're looking at Niko's now already starting to to grow into his own.
00:10:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep.
00:10:41
Mark
Ola Aina, we were all like, yeah, all right, this is left back. And suddenly he's now the best left back in the league, apparently. Matt Sells is doing well, you know, they they're they're signing some really good players. We're looking at like people like Marmouche, Jimenez, you know, they're looking at the right players, obviously, and pit players that are going on to be phenomenal for us or doubling in value like Marmouche going to see 59 million, right? Do you think the issue is, do you think this season we've overdone expectation um and essentially the expectation we've given to the recruitment team at the start of the season of where we thought we were going to be
00:11:14
Mark
has exceeded itself and now the players that we've brought in maybe aren't good enough for what we can actually potentially achieve.
00:11:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, mean it's it's pretty incredible how how fast things are moving because you write that that squad we built in in the summer. That was a a good squad for, we all thought we'd stay up when we did that preseason predictions. I know you threw in a conference league spanner, but we all will all say we finished about 12-14 because the team we'd seen was players that were finished 12th and 14th, which was was fine at the time. But yeah,

Building for the Future: Strategies and Signings

00:11:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
now we have um suddenly got in with a very good chance of finishing even better than that conference league spot. Do we improve the the depth even more or do we consolidate?
00:12:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah um except that days like today or days like the Bournemouth Day would happen and build further in future years. To use as an example, the Luton FA Cup game, we made 11 changes for that. And you could see a big difference between our first 11, which then started a few days later against Liverpool, and that second 11 that started against Luton. So yeah, perhaps some of those players, even those who've signed relatively recently, like Jota, like Sosa, like um I'll enjoy one by Modelli, who's already gone, those kind of plays. Yeah, we have already maybe moved on from them.
00:12:36
Mark
Hypothetically for next season, right? Let's say we did get to Champions League, especially looking at the Bournemouth game today. I know it's a one-off, but obviously with the Luton game as well, with that depth and, you know, we were saying in the group chat that you know, especially when you're 3-0 down, who is there that's coming off the bench that is good enough to turn around a situation like that? I mean, I know most teams don't have anyone off the bench, but you know, when you're at the top of the league, you know, you're looking like City have got people like, you know, like Phil Fodens and Bernardo Silvers and De Bruyne is to rotate and you think, well, one of them might come on and have a different spark. But with us, you don't feel like anyone's really up to that kind of like top of the Premier League level, like the good.
00:13:13
Mark
but we need a bit more depth and it made me think like next year let's say we did get to Champions League how many players do we we need to realistically sign in somewhere because I would say we probably need a younger goalkeeper as a backup maybe someone like a like a Ramsdale style player I mean he wasn't great at the city ground to be fair he kind of disappointed me but um someone kind of like that I think we definitely the left back because I don't think I mean I think Toffolo is a real workhorse but I don't think he's up to it anymore
00:13:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
No. Yeah, I think... No.
00:13:37
Mark
And Moreno, what we're keeping, what we're not, is getting older. You know, it might be expensive. Carmo's coming back, I think centre-half is pretty much soared. You know, potentially we need to write back.
00:13:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think especially if Aynor and Williams are one of them occasionally playing on the left to allow the other to play on the right.
00:13:48
Mark
Blowing out Marrero.
00:13:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
So yeah, I think, um yeah, you centre back Morello, if we're in the Champions League, Morello is definitely going to stay.
00:14:01
Mark
Mm-hmm.
00:14:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
If they' we're in one of the other European competitions or not at all, then then maybe perhaps not, but equally, if we're going to go Morello, Moretto, Milankovic, Carmo, like you say, that's a good solid mo four or five, maybe one more, or maybe Zac Abbott can be kept as ah as a fifth choice and get increased game time.
00:14:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But no, I think, yeah, it's Harry Toffolo and Alex Moreno would probably be obvious to. Moreno, if he's not the first name on our team machine now, he's rotating a bit with Nico Williams.
00:14:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Toffolo is not really getting much of a game time this year. But yeah, it's those you need to look at improving.
00:14:39
Mark
Yeah.
00:14:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Toffolo has said is he's been a lot of effort. He's been great off appeal off the field as well in particular since his his time at Forest. But if we want to keep growing, he is grown book going to be the one who's going to have to lo leave leave by the side and take on, yeah, probably a big name specialist left back, which we haven't, yeah, haven't had since ran on Lottie perhaps in that first year in the Premier League.
00:15:01
Mark
Yeah, I mean, all I know technically now is that kind of specialist left back, isn't he really? Technically, he's both, isn't he?
00:15:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
he's is He's still right, he's right footed though, I think, or is he <unk> yeah equally footed?
00:15:10
Mark
Oh, is he? Oh, there you go. He's right back then.
00:15:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. So again, what I mean is he he can play very well on both sides, but he only has to fill in that left back
00:15:13
Mark
Yeah.
00:15:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
when we would go for Nico at right back. So if we want someone yeah in Europa League, I think it's so interesting.
00:15:22
Mark
Yeah.
00:15:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
we If we do go to the Champions League, and then I think it's not going to be as many signings as our first year in the prem, but I think we will sign 10 or more players in the Champions League.
00:15:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then in the open, yeah, so I honestly think Marinakis is not going to want it to be a one-off.
00:15:40
Mark
Do you?
00:15:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
So he's going to need to, yeah I think the majority of those players from that bench in the second team this year will be replaced and upgraded, whether it will go well or not, I don't know, but I think Marinakis is
00:15:56
Mark
Have we got the banks for that though? like Can we get away with that PSR?
00:15:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah that's That's the thing, I think, in terms of our steady growth, I dont think going from no Europe at all to Champions League, I think it's too big a growth because you need almost a couple of years of Europa League TV money and steady growth before you're then ready to attack the Champions League.
00:16:09
Mark
yeah
00:16:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, I mean, as a fan, of course, you we want to see Champions League, hear that Champions League music on the bank as a trend would be insane.
00:16:16
Mark
o Yeah.
00:16:23
Mark
Imagine, imagine, we'd all just even if you had got a ticket, you'd just stand on the track just to listen, wouldn't you?
00:16:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
But, yeah.
00:16:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Not completely, completely.
00:16:28
Mark
Even though you've heard it many times before, you'd have to listen to the city ground 100%.
00:16:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
The goosebumps would be insane. But yeah, I think from a squad building point of view, yeah it's going from nothing to Champions League.
00:16:34
Mark
Yeah, of course.
00:16:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think we spoke a few episodes ago about Newcastle. They went from no Europe to Champions League to no Europe again. So that's why I think a steadier build-up is probably, if you had to pick, if you had to be honest, that's probably the way to go.
00:16:52
Mark
Yeah, and I think they were Newcastle. They signed really well the first season, and got into Europe in the Champions League. But then because they haven't gotten since, they haven't been able to sign anyone. And I know they're still a decent squad, you know, we'll be able to pick up one or two like solid additions.
00:17:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Exactly, yeah.
00:17:05
Mark
But like, you know, Oh, and it's a hard battle.
00:17:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, that's a big, yeah.
00:17:09
Mark
I'd love to see like more contracts extended like Marillos. I mean, what a sign of that is more contract system like that and get like the solid like 20 that we want to keep.
00:17:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm hmm.
00:17:17
Mark
So basically the the kind of 20 that the starting 11 we've got now keep the bench as well.
00:17:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm hmm.
00:17:22
Mark
Get that like 20 consolidated the maybe side like three or four solid like first team options on top of that. Maybe one or two to like slip into the bench to make that bench stronger as well.
00:17:34
Mark
And then
00:17:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:17:35
Mark
maybe one or two for the first team and just make like the overall 2025 like gradually like stronger and stronger as a depth. I think that's probably more helpful and more realistic as well.
00:17:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, definitely.
00:17:45
Mark
Maybe maybe that one star player.
00:17:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's a sensible, yeah, but maybe whether it's Kunia, whether it's someone else, a Marmouche type of figure in in the summer, that would be would be great.
00:17:52
Mark
Yeah.
00:17:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
And as you say, just slowly ease out Willie Bali, for example. He he can probably wouldn't extend his contract at the moment.
00:17:59
Mark
Yeah.
00:18:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Maybe after James Ward, yeah.
00:18:01
Mark
Well, i I think with what War Price, we'll go back, I would imagine.
00:18:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah yeah Yeah, it's getting European experience.
00:18:05
Mark
and With Carmo coming back in, I really hope we keep Carmo, because he looks like a good player.
00:18:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
He he won the conference league with Olympiarchos last year, then we bought him and sent him back to Olympiarchos for another solid year.
00:18:14
Mark
Yeah.
00:18:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think they're in the Europa League now, Olympiarchos. He's the kind of player ah that you'd you'd want to see. and Yeah, he is in Lost in the Forest. He's owned by Lost in the Forest, so hopefully he's looking and next summer, hoping he'll be in that Forest preseason squad and doing all he can to impress Nuno, which I'm sure he can certainly get in with a good chance of that.
00:18:40
Mark
I think he will, to be fair, but, you know, if you're looking at the back four, we've got Morata, Morello, the two lefties, Karmo and Milankovic, the two righties.
00:18:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:18:48
Mark
I mean, they that's a good solid four.
00:18:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
All right, definitely.
00:18:51
Mark
I'm about to go out on loan ah with the potential to make it permanent in summer, which may well happen, right?
00:18:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:19:00
Mark
So let's say we get like 10, 15 million back for him, which is, I mean, he's not a bad play.
00:19:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, now again, that's just what it's what you need to do for in the PSR era.
00:19:04
Mark
He's a decent play. He's work it's still probably worth about 10 mil. um
00:19:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
If a player isn't playing and you can catch in, then then you need to do that.
00:19:10
Mark
Yeah.
00:19:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think it would be nice to have him around. I think when he first made his debut for Forest, he said, oh, his granddad is ah from Nottingham, even though he's he's Irish, his granddad moved from Nottingham to Ireland. So he is a Forest fan.
00:19:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's nice having Forest fans around, but ultimately, Unfortunately, you've got to be cold hard cash at some point. And if someone's going to give you a slight profit on a player who doesn't often play, then you you need to take that hey that deal.
00:19:36
Mark
It's funny because if he is a forest fan, it explains why he's just happy to be in the squad and not play.
00:19:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:19:42
Mark
Fair enough. I mean, yeah, decent. but he's He's doing all right. I think, you know, and also if he does well at Strasbourg and they go, we can't afford him, we've got a fifth defender. It's a good option.
00:19:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, definitely.
00:19:50
Mark
Young lad. ah Which is nice. Strasbourg are the ones that are owned by Chelsea, aren't they?
00:19:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah Yeah, which is ah another interesting, maybe he does so well that Chelsea ended up buying him.
00:20:00
Mark
du Yeah, imagine. They just got nine.
00:20:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:20:02
Mark
Don't know. They're looking at gone out show. I'm like, where are you going to play him? There's not a seat free in the stadium, let alone in your squad.
00:20:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Nah.
00:20:09
Mark
It's like six wingers.
00:20:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, that's a strange one.
00:20:12
Mark
I wonder if they'll send Sancho back to United because I don't think that'd be a bad move for you.
00:20:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:20:16
Mark
know age like Anyway, we're talking about forest and we're talking about GSBN as well.
00:20:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:20:19
Mark
and It's a great company to work for. Really fun. Lots of great podcasts and it's daily for most teams kind of around the UK. Really few championship teams, women's team as well. Those people are Spanish League, aren't we?
00:20:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, so there's definitely a Italian language Premier League pod, possibly it's a Spanish language Premier League pod as well, as well as La Liga. So yeah, just to go into YouTube, Spotify, wherever you get your podcasts, Global Sports Podcast Network. And you know, we've been, we almost started talking about Sancho and Garnaccio just then. If you want to hear more about Sancho and Garnaccio as a Daily Man United podcast, as a Daily Chelsea podcast. And when we play them, we'll do a crossover episode and we'll also talk to fans of rival teams just to hear about their their players and their styles.
00:21:01
Mark
yeah also on youtube as I found out from Marley the Day, all the different episodes. I think it's like every person every every team's episodes are all just posting one big long log. So if you want to binge an endless amount of GSPN, you can absolutely do that.
00:21:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, we're all all all in one place and it's great to see as a Premier League. It's already one of the biggest leagues for biggest sports leagues in the world and it's great to see yeah how we're reaching new audiences with with this podcast.
00:21:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
So yeah, do if you're listening, check us out on YouTube. If you're watching us on YouTube, we are available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
00:21:33
Mark
Perfect. Let's wrap Bournemouth up before the final kind of questions and stuff. I think today, are we just kind of putting it down as like a wall off, bad day at the office, or is it like the start of a slump?
00:21:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
We don't leave slightly worrying thing as well. And I did see someone talk about this on on Twitter. So if if you're listening, um I can't remember who. So sorry for stealing your idea. But they said that slump started at almost a half time of the Southampton game, because of course, we were three nil up in Southampton in the last game and then lost the second half to nil. And now it's five nil here. So that's possibly the only worrying

Performance Analysis: Temporary or Trend?

00:22:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
thing. If you look at those two together and it's now three halves of football on the slide.
00:22:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Um, then yeah, so I would hope if we're looking at just at Bournemouth, I'd hope Bournemouth is a one-off, but then he'd include that that disappointing second half last week against Southampton and maybe, maybe there's something not quite right in in training or maybe it is just ah a small bit that we're over in a couple of games time.
00:22:31
Mark
Yeah, maybe it's the excitement was just getting a bit much. I mean, it's been a good season so far. It's hard to keep that up. Brilliant first half against Southampton. Second half, dreadful. I mean, really tried to draw that game.
00:22:42
Mark
Maybe it's just teams on the south coast that we can't play.
00:22:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
it's brighter next and hopefully it's our South Coast only blip once we get yeah but ah back to playing teams a bit more inland we'll get our form back.
00:22:47
Mark
Exactly.
00:22:54
Mark
Yeah, best things come in threes, they said.
00:22:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I mean, yeah, that's why I'm really really already hoping it's next Saturday come soon and that we can see how the team react from that because after our until today our last defeat was city and then we beat United away the very next game so we completely put that loss to bed we we wrote it off as a blip so hopefully we can we can do the same but then again all we need to do now is yeah that I don't know maybe that's tactically maybe Dominguez starting ahead of Yates maybe Yates is only good for certain games in certain situations and
00:23:19
Mark
Yeah.
00:23:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
or maybe start with the back three and give Marato a bit of a run from the start.
00:23:34
Mark
Yeah.
00:23:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
So some changes Nuno can make.
00:23:39
Mark
Would you have done that today?
00:23:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
So what I possibly would have done, so because we were thinking Hudson and Doy might have been injured, so I would have put domin i would put Dominguez or Anderson on the wing and therefore gone a bit narrower rather than go like for like Joseph Silva.
00:23:47
Mark
Yeah, and that's what I thought.
00:23:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I think that's possibly, I think we did that a couple of times last year when Dominguez filled in as one of the wingers and therefore he could double up defensively against Clyvert and dangerous wingers like that. so yeah If you're going to change the formation then take off a winger and go a bit narrower in the middle. Going for a back three at home, possibly not. possiblying not
00:24:15
Mark
Yeah, but well, we we kind of expected it to be an end-to-end game. and it And it was, except every time they went forward, they scored. Every time we went forward, we didn't get close.
00:24:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
know
00:24:25
Mark
ah But, you know, i think it' just one I think it is kind of a bad day at the office. I think everything we tried just didn't work. Shots-wise, we didn't seem like we were miles behind, but I don't think a lot of our shots were as as good as their chances probably were.
00:24:37
Mark
ah Possession-wise, again, pretty similar, but I just think they were just more clinical than it was a bad day at the office. So we'll try and put it down as that. and for the rest of January, based off sounds and based off, you know, it seems like Man City starting to come back into form. Based off, you know, Bournemouth today, I mean, crikey, depending on how long Callum's out for. Who would you look at signing? Would you bring anyone in?
00:25:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, would I? Yeah, I mean, I don i mean, with Cunha, the still the still that they're nagging feeling that salary demands might be too high and that might upset the balance. So I'd rather whizzer than Cunha.
00:25:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
um
00:25:18
Mark
Still expensive, though.
00:25:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
but Yeah, but maybe maybe I'm being completely yeah unfair, but I think Whistler is because he was so happy to be back up for Tony at Brentford.
00:25:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I don't think he has the ego that he would demand to be to be the main man. Yeah,
00:25:33
Mark
I don't know if we could not make him in the first team squad mate. His quality, I think he'd have to go out wide. Him on one side and maybe a Langer on the other side. I don't think we could drop this. You wouldn't what you'd want him in your first team.
00:25:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah yeah. I know, i know but but but he's he would maybe, if, when Hudson and Doi is back, and if he could at least add to the rotation to have both the three of Elanga, Hudson and Doi and Visser, you start two of those three each week, and then the one not starting would at least accept it.
00:26:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Whereas Kunia, I think he would demand to play every week, and I think almost double the price of looking at what, 60 million for Kunia, 30 for Wisser. 30 for Wisser is a lot better value for not a huge difference in quality between two of them.
00:26:14
Mark
Yeah.
00:26:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I prefer Wisser to Kunia, but I do think
00:26:16
Mark
Yeah.
00:26:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
possibly a need.
00:26:19
Mark
I also think dressing room wise, one of my warriors chatted to Molly that I was if this arrives, he's kind of a happy go lucky lad and I think it fits into the vibe we've built.
00:26:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:26:29
Mark
My only worry with Junior is he does seem quite a nice bloke, he does seem to work hard and great. But if things did go sour, if we did go on a slump, would he then bring some of the attitude that he's had at walls? And would that majorly mess up our dressing room?
00:26:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I mean, but wouldn't we'd have to somehow do our research behind the scenes and Yeah, you lost it that time a few that few days games ago. It's Ipswich ripping off.
00:26:50
Mark
A few times, like two or three times.
00:26:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah So whether it's the pressure of wolves in general, if wolves, it's not a platform place to be and all of their moods and as you're just being dragged down or whether he is the one in the center of things changing that mood and dragging dragging the people down.
00:27:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
So we would need to somehow, I know there are um ways in football of someone at Forest would know someone at Wolves and they'll ah quietly ask is it a couldn't yous the problem or is it the whole attitude? So as long as the homework is done and this time it's not the number one problem at Wolves I would i'll be happy to have him if if we can get him and he's if he's willing to join for the right reasons then I would certainly get he would improve improve that team like we've been saying the same throughout the episode.
00:27:36
Mark
I mean, yeah, we wouldn't say no. I think VISTA will be more expensive than 30 though. I did i had a nice little chuckle to myself when I heard that we bid 22 million.
00:27:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:27:44
Mark
I was like, that's hilarious.
00:27:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I mean, it'll be 44 is more and more likely than 22.
00:27:49
Mark
I think it'll be about 40, but I think potentially money well spent.
00:27:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think so. It's a proven Premier League player. um You won't need any betting in time that Jota and Sosa are having. And yeah, he would get you would be joins tomorrow.
00:28:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
He'll be starting against Brighton on the weekend. he He is ready, ready to go.
00:28:08
Mark
Yeah, and I think he probably is that linchpin that we need. And it will probably give the players a boost actually.
00:28:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:28:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, definitely.
00:28:15
Mark
Yeah.
00:28:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think it's a surprise to be honest that it's 25th of January. There have been so few transfers. I think it's been across the whole Premier League. There's maybe 10 transfers, maybe even less.
00:28:24
Mark
Yeah, 10 transfers and they've all signed for Man City.
00:28:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
So it's been, yeah, it's been a, apart from them, it's been a super quiet January. We've re-signed Wayne Hennessy. That's our only cony signing. So yeah, I think it would be um a surprise if if we don't may make an addition, but equally it's also been surprising.
00:28:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
It hasn't been one yet.
00:28:42
Mark
Yeah, 100%. I mean, the one that we we were rumoured to be going for was Roman Essay from Millwall. Don't know if he's quite primarily quality yet, but I do like him. Look, good player. ah And he's gone to Palace, which I think is a very, very Palace styling, very good styling.
00:28:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
No.
00:28:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, definitely, yeah.
00:28:55
Mark
They seem to start the Elise A's and the Essay's and the Essay's. And I find it hilarious that they've now got Essay and Essay behind Nkezio's front.
00:29:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah, it commentates this room.
00:29:03
Mark
I cannot, I cannot wait to listen to the commentary of that game.
00:29:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
I definitely, what I said it is, is that, again, it's Palisade, the team of of South, South London, so Yeah, maybe we're the team of the Midlands. If SA is saying from Millwall to Palace, giving a step up, maybe Cunya from Wolf's to Nottingham is going to be a step up.
00:29:22
Mark
Yeah, I mean, slightly, slightly smaller of a step up, but still good.
00:29:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:29:27
Mark
and Yeah, be interesting to see. I'm also kind of tempted just to see who goes down and kind of nab one of their star players, because I'm looking at the bottom three, apart from Southampton, I don't think I'd want any of their squad, maybe Archer, if you can hit some form, but other than that, like me, but um looking at like Ipswich, you know, like,
00:29:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, Liam, he'll be wanted by half the Premier League and in

Conclusion and Future Outlook

00:29:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
the summer. He's a very good, yeah.
00:29:49
Mark
Well I want to ask their squad, I'd take their front four. Imagine having Phila Jean, Hutchinson, Jack Clark and Dilap. I'd have most of them to be honest.
00:29:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, yeah. I mean, that's why maybe then, and I think they're only on goal difference out of the bottom 18 at the moment. They could, they could yet stay up it, which they're they're looking, as I said, they've got attacking talent.
00:30:06
Mark
yeah
00:30:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
um They still got so the spirit, they got them through the leagues in the first place, so I think iw if they could do it, they could could could get the 17th spot.
00:30:15
Mark
yep Yeah. Yeah. Well, I think I think if you stay up and sign some defensive players, I think they could be difficult in your season, you know? But yeah, there's a few at the bottom. But yeah, we'll see. Anyway, that was a good podcast. We're going to put it down as a slump.
00:30:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:30:27
Mark
Ish. Like a wale ah one game slump. That's kind of a kind of a post Southampton hangover.
00:30:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think so, yeah. Let's hope so, let's hope so.
00:30:36
Mark
ah Yeah. And hopefully we'll be back against Brighton and we'll get the three points. If not, we'll reassess.
00:30:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Definitely. As though maybe it's just this south get the South Coast teams out the way to go back back to playing on Northern, Northern and Midlands rivals and we'll be fine.
00:30:52
Mark
Yeah, if not we'll sign Foden. Perfect.
00:30:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
All that.
00:30:56
Mark
Yeah, sounds good to me. Right, see you in the next episode guys and keep it GSPN for more.
