00:00:08
Global Sports Podcast Network

Freezing Podcast Conditions with James and Marley

00:00:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
The FA Cup dream starts now for Forrest joining us live from the Trent Bridge in Wetherspoons. It's James and Marley together at last.
00:00:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
How are you both doing?

Team Performance and Danilo's Return

00:00:21
Everyone
but doing all right it's freezing though I don't think I've ever shivered this much during a podcast, but there we go.
00:00:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, that's Pete.
00:00:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah It's good to hear that this is the most you've shivered and that your bedroom isn't isn't colder than mine or however. cold it is for you guys. how how was How was the game? Was it at least warm warm inside? Anything exciting?
00:00:43
Everyone
ah We looked off it, but it's expected with a B team who haven't, most of those players don't start games. I just thought it was amazing that Danilo got to come back on the pitch. I'd say it's the best moment of the game. And honestly, it was as loud as I expected it to be. Everyone gave an applause and hello to Mark.
00:01:00
Mark
Hello, how you doing? You all right? How was it?

The Atmosphere and Danilo's Impact

00:01:03
Everyone
um Breathing. It was good. You know what? We it were we were just discussing the most chanted ah song and it was Danilo. He's got the power to know he's indestructible. And the the welcome that he got back on the pitch at eight minutes or 83 minutes was epic, like the whole stadium on the feet. It must have felt very special.
00:01:24
Mark
Yeah,

Danilo's Performance Analysis and Liverpool Predictions

00:01:25
Mark
100%.
00:01:25
Everyone
ski
00:01:26
Mark
What was it like in the last 10 minutes? did he Did he get much of the ball? Does he look fit? Does he look sharp? Does he need more time in the under 21s?
00:01:30
Everyone
i I don't think he needs time under 21. I wouldn't have thought he was starting the Liverpool game. I don't think he's quite there yet, but I reckon he'll be on the bench, ready
00:01:39
Mark
Yeah.

Celebrating Forrest's Winning Streak

00:01:41
Mark
Yeah, fair enough.
00:01:41
Everyone
to go.
00:01:42
Everyone
the The second most chanted song today was, you scouts, beep beep, we're coming for you. Everyone seems to think I'm going to win. Up the forest.
00:01:54
Mark
Yeah. hundred percent Well, seven wins in a row in all competitions and to celebrate as a massive toast. It's the first time ever. All four of us have been on the same podcast.
00:02:04
Everyone
is.
00:02:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
And that's that's what what we were waiting for.
00:02:05
Everyone
Yeah.
00:02:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
where We've said in the first ever meeting, we're not doing it until we're fourth round of the epic up and second in the league. And and here we are.
00:02:12
Mark
Yep. Special we'll beat looting and then we'll do one together. That's, that's the moment.
00:02:16
Everyone
Yeah,
00:02:17
Mark
Also boys, how special does it feel to beat Luton?
00:02:17
Everyone
looted or a massive club
00:02:22
Mark
I mean, last season we threw it away twice. It's like finally like, oh God, it's like a relief, isn't it?

Match Attendance and Fan Challenges

00:02:28
Everyone
yeah yeah it was, it was special. We were both in the same end of the ground. Uh, You're in upper Brian love for both the away fans and we were lower next to the away fans and it was so interesting to be that close to so many deluded people.
00:02:43
Everyone
They really thought they were going to win and that their petrol money coming up the M1 was worth it.
00:02:50
Mark
Well, this is sold out in the end.
00:02:52
Everyone
I don't know.

Luton's Struggles vs Forrest's Successes

00:02:53
Everyone
The attendance was 29 and a half thousand, but that was because they couldn't sell their allocation. I don't think there were. There were a few gaps where it must have been a few people.
00:03:04
Everyone
They didn't make it due to the weather. It was a small away end as well. It was, yeah, we moved it right across.
00:03:09
Mark
Yeah.
00:03:10
Everyone
So I can't imagine that Liverpool weren't assault theirs. It'd be ah the atmosphere on Tuesday night is going to be electric. The best.
00:03:17
Mark
We're like a Champions League now, weren't it? Also, when I looked back at Luton's fixtures, and now one of the reasons why they probably didn't bring as many fans, obviously the manager got fired recently, but they've lost their last four games. The last game they won was five games ago before today, and it was against Derby. It's quite nice, isn't it?

Forrest's Defensive Strength and Victory

00:03:33
Everyone
Yes. There was a lot of renditions of you're going down with a derby today. That might have been the third most chanting to chant. Yeah. And may I point out that while we're talking about how much we've won lately, how much they've lost, on Tuesday, when we play Liverpool, it will mark a month to the day since we last conceded a goal.
00:03:51
Everyone
You know, five clean sheets.
00:03:54
Mark
Have we jinxed it?
00:03:54
Everyone
No.
00:03:57
Everyone
We don't do dirty sheets. That's jinxed it.
00:04:00
Mark
Yeah.
00:04:01
Everyone
Marley's dad's saying that's jinxed it. Oh dear, I hope not. Bloody hell.
00:04:05
Mark
Yeah. Fingers crossed. I mean, Matt sells himself, don't he? Eh? You got to throw it in there. Quick joke for you.
00:04:11
Everyone
Matt sells himself. Matt sells seashells.
00:04:15
Mark
Literally.
00:04:15
Everyone
no it's it's It's been epic, so we we beat it in 2-0 for anyone who doesn't know, because we haven't mentioned that yet. ah Goals, two assists from Jotto, who won Man of the Match. And goals from Yates to start with in the first half.
00:04:28
Everyone
And Sosa in the second half, getting his goal. So it was, it was a good game in that respect. But I think like Marley said at the beginning, we were a bit off it. Team that hasn't really played before. You could see it, especially in the the first 10 to 15 minutes, there was a lot of, um, you know, just accumulating towards one another about you should have run there.
00:04:46
Everyone
You should have run there, but Yates really marshaled them.
00:04:48
Mark
Yeah.
00:04:49
Everyone
You could see him going around the players kind of pulling them together and saying, you know, lads, this, this is the way and that's the way and stuff. So. real real uh... caps on the pitch today
00:04:59
Mark
Yeah, we'll come to the goals

Squad Rotation and Strategic Flexibility

00:05:00
Mark
in a sec. Stewart, for you as well. Obviously, me and you were busy today. We didn't match against the game. And the boys were there for us in force. And I love that they're at the pub, like actually out there. This is quite a nice little trio of different shots.
00:05:11
Mark
I quite like it. I like having people on location as well.
00:05:13
Everyone
and
00:05:14
Mark
But um before we come back to you boys, because I want to talk about Sosa, and how ah how important do you think it is for the other players to play today and how much of it ah a stress do you think it is for them coming into a team that is doing so well? I mean, our starting lineup is probably one of the best in England right now. Do you think there was pressure on them to step in, even against Luton in the FA Cup?
00:05:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
To be honest, this yeah, um after his goal on Monday night, I think we were all expecting a first half Taiwo hat trick today. So yeah, I mean, I'm interested in Tim or from Marley and James, they've already said that combination of 11 players hadn't started together.
00:05:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, they shoehorned in Toffalo to make it a 3-4-3, rather than giving a young attacker like Joe Gardner a go to keep with the usual formation.
00:05:57
Everyone
Thanks.
00:05:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
So yeah, I think, yeah, there was pressure to Yeah, do a put in a professional performance like they did, but it sounds like I mean, yes, those he's got the confidence of the foot of the goal and the assist, but perhaps no one.
00:06:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
We're going to make 11 changes again on Tuesday, would you say?
00:06:13
Mark
Hmm.
00:06:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, no, no one played so well that they're going to demand the squad against Liverpool.
00:06:15
Mark
Hmm.
00:06:18
Mark
Yeah, important though, because I think Liverpool massive game, how important is it that like Liverpool against Atkinson today, that we can make 11 changes on Tuesday and have a fully fit 11? Do you think that's important?
00:06:30
Everyone
i said
00:06:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:06:33
Everyone
Something I thought right was Having the the B team out, obviously we've got Yates out, he's not, he's not B team, but having the second string out there today and then bringing in that win and clean sheet, I think really helps to cement the group because we've had quite a fixed 11 over the last month or so, and but having a whole new 11 come out, that's their their win.
00:06:43
Mark
Mm hmm. Mm hmm.
00:06:59
Everyone
And they've fed into that, um, you know, when all no losses or win the last seven and, um, the five clean sheets.
00:07:07
Mark
Mm.
00:07:09
Everyone
So they really contributed to that rather than, you know, always talks about, you know, routine, everyone, even if they only come on for a minute or if they're on the bench, everyone counts, everyone makes a difference.

Player Positions and Injury Management

00:07:20
Everyone
But I think, you know, those 90 minutes, some of those players got, um, especially silver down in, uh, the right back position, and you know, playing and at the end, you know, you could see how happy he was to have have got that win under his belt.
00:07:37
Everyone
So one thing that confused me was we thought it would be Jota in the middle, Silver on the right and a back four. It was a back five, which featured Harry Toffolo at center back.
00:07:48
Everyone
So I've never seen him play at center back before.
00:07:48
Mark
yeah
00:07:51
Everyone
He held his own, he did well, but I can't imagine he's ever played there before. And I was very confused.
00:07:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
He played there in the pre-season games actually, that was the interesting point of when Omar Richards was playing the pre-season games that left wing back, it was actually Toffolo left centre back.
00:07:55
Everyone
my friends thought
00:08:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
So it's almost as if Nuno, his planning ahead is so indeted iopalo and in I'm going to need you in the epic third round left centre back, let's play it against Sunderland in pre-season.
00:08:15
Mark
Yeah. A hundred percent. Do you think as well, boys, especially you were there today, you know, obviously we've been very lucky with injuries this season because, you know, for the last like 10 years of being a forest fan. I mean, I've seen as top of the championship three years in a row and then lose the entire squad, like Jack Hobbs, a somber longer Cohen. Like last season, we had a lot of injuries issues without a one year again. This year we've managed to kind of just about the occasional Morgan Gibbs white hiccup, but generally, and I know with Danilo getting that big injury, great to have him back today.
00:08:43
Mark
But do you think it's important for these players to play today? and And is there anyone in that lineup, you know, like, especially for the Forest fans who may have not seen them play this season, Toffolo, Miguel in goal, you know, like De Silva, Marrero as

Player Performances and Future Potential

00:08:56
Mark
well. Do you think there's any promising signs there for those players coming forward in the future?
00:09:01
Everyone
how big is Miguel in real life? Massive. He's absolutely massive. Have you seen for anyone who's not seen like, um, the, what's the go-go gadget, inspector gadget, right?
00:09:12
Everyone
When he puts his arms out and stuff and they all like telescopic arms and legs, this guy, well, yeah, but this guy stretch Armstrong when he, when he kicks the ball and he extends a leg bloody hell.
00:09:17
Mark
Well, I missed a fantastic.
00:09:24
Everyone
He's Nux. He's a great shot-sopper, but his distribution's a bit dodgy. A bit like Dean Anderson was. He did throw one straight out, yeah.
00:09:31
Mark
All right.
00:09:32
Everyone
and But i've seen I've seen worse distribution from, like, Matt Turner. Matt Turner. Yeah, I was gonna say.
00:09:37
Mark
Yeah.
00:09:38
Everyone
ah
00:09:38
Mark
Okay. Compared to the Codden Moss, how is he?
00:09:42
Everyone
Sorry?
00:09:43
Mark
Compared to the Codden Moss last season, a DCF.
00:09:45
Everyone
Oh. Oh, what back but compared Blacka Deimos, he is Noya.
00:09:46
Mark
compared to that nightmare.
00:09:50
Mark
Oh, perfect.
00:09:50
Everyone
Yeah, yeah.
00:09:51
Mark
Well, that's all we need then.
00:09:52
Everyone
Although, compared to Blacka Deimos, Stojkovic was Noya, so. You know, but at the end of the game Morris, the Luton um striker, yeah came in for a header and, you know, Carlos, he controlled his area and all he did was jump for the ball.
00:09:58
Mark
Yeah, true.
00:10:13
Everyone
He jumped two feet higher than everyone else because he started two feet higher than everyone else. Arms were in the air and he got the ball and Morris must have just hit his midriff. And you know, Carlos Miguel didn't even make, didn didn't even flinch, just distributed the ball.

Second Half Analysis and Substitution Impact

00:10:30
Everyone
Morris was still on the ground. The ref had to stop the game. He gets up expecting a penalty thinking of being clocked in the face. Um, and yeah, the admin, it was just, it was a coming together. Um, but it just shows how strong he is in control in his area.
00:10:44
Mark
That's good. That's great. ah The but major point, the fourth player I wanted to come on to. Big goal today for Ramon Sosa. Looked good against Everton actually when he started there. It was a surprise for a lot of us that he started. Unlucky not to score with a massive Pickford save towards the end. Goal today and assist today. and Can he break into the first team? Does he look more confident? Does he look like he's starting to grow? Now he's he's getting to know the team, the language, that kind of stuff.
00:11:09
Everyone
Yeah, I think he was doing well taking the ball. Lots of long diagonal balls being played by Ward Prowse. And he was doing well to bring them down, bring Ohoni into the team. So I think he's starting to grow into and the kind of play you can trust on the wing. But I don't think he's going to break into the first team ahead of Cho. His goals today felt a lot like the ah second goal equalizer at Brighton earlier in the season, where Jota breaks down the wing really quickly, squares it. and Sosa taps it into an almost empty net.
00:11:39
Everyone
They're linked up, looks like it's going to be vital to us in late on in games and the rest of the season and for the majority of our cup run because they look, they look like they've built a very good connection. They just need matchmaking.
00:11:48
Mark
but step Yeah, I think that's definitely something that's been working behind the scenes. I think Nuno will have clocked the, you know, Hudson adoring a Langer or the starters, but that you need to get a relationship between the other two.
00:11:53
Everyone
back
00:11:58
Mark
Going back to what Stuart said, a one ye. How was he today?
00:12:02
Everyone
He looked. Positioning-wise, he looks back, ready, very, very good. Finishing-wise, I think Chris Wood could have had a hat-trick by the 50th minute, whereas a 1, he hadn't scored one, because there were a few times where he played it straight at the keeper when Chris Wood would have found a corner.
00:12:08
Mark
Okay.
00:12:21
Everyone
yeah Bit like Strand Larsen for walls against us.
00:12:24
Mark
Yeah.
00:12:24
Everyone
Yeah, and we we came out really bad in the second half. First 15, 20 minutes, the second half. We were dire, to be honest with you. We really gave Luton a way back into the game. And I thought they were going to find a way back into the game.
00:12:36
Everyone
Um, but we managed to squeeze that goal out. In in fact, as that goal, uh, was going in, wood was already stripped off on the bench. Um, I think, uh, Joe or Alanga, a couple of us were both of them.
00:12:50
Everyone
Yeah. Yeah. So Nuno was already getting ready to make the changes to, uh, increase that one nil lead. And then we scored the goal and they all went and sat back down for another 10 minutes. Um, until they came back on.
00:13:00
Mark
Well, yeah, I mean, but the match fitness, I mean, a lot of them, I mean, as great as we've been this season, a lot of them will be struggling for match fitness. So they'll probably start to flag second off. I mean, it's not good enough as a Premier League team against Newton, but still, you know, it's, you can kind of understand a little bit.
00:13:10
Everyone
Okay.
00:13:15
Mark
Stuart, what were your thoughts on, you know, watching the the game and the stats come in from a a lovely warm living room?

Loaning Players and Team Depth

00:13:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it's interesting um what James just said, that when it was still only one nil, um that Wood and Hudson-Adoy were being ready to to come on.
00:13:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
So it just shows that Nuno is um taking it seriously. One nil wouldn't have been good enough for him, so he was ready to risk the big guns to put Lutes into bed. that wasn't That wasn't necessary in the end, but you do mention the stats.
00:13:31
Mark
Mm.
00:13:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
When I was following following the game, actually were, authorities weren't leading on on shots, but Luton on shots on target until until we got our second goal. So it sounds like we were quite wasteful, maybe taking take some pot shots and it was, yeah, there was still the occasional threat from Luton. I know that Carlton Morris, he mentioned, we actually licked with him quite a bit when Luton went down. Would you take him as a third third choice striker or did he still look not quite at that level?
00:14:13
Everyone
it's been special but we're going to have to sign off here for the trenbridgeing because i think we've got some hypothermic fans um we we do have uh other people with us who are starting to shiver ah ah so we're gonna have to say goodbye um come on you reds and yes um yeah you too we'll let you wrap up the show molly's dad right but we'll we'll we'll sign off
00:14:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Rather, U-eds, prediction for U-eds,
00:14:38
Mark
I think that should be the rest of the episode. Did people pop it in saying you read? That's great. That's good TV that.
00:14:44
Everyone
yeah right
00:14:44
Mark
that
00:14:45
Everyone
we'll see you later you know
00:14:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
these angles.
00:14:50
Mark
Right. Let's talk low market. I think, um, today we could run out for a few of the players.
00:14:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:14:56
Mark
Um, Moreira, be a good one to go on loan. I think, you know, it's good. It's good to see him working with the first team and he's probably learning a lot more. Like, you know, you look at some of the the superstars like Phil Foden. I mean, you know, moreira is not quite that level, but.
00:15:08
Mark
You know, he stayed with the first team and trained.
00:15:09
Everyone
Yeah. All right.
00:15:10
Mark
Do you think it's more useful for someone of Moreira's level? I mean, so is more advanced.
00:15:14
Everyone
We'll see you later.
00:15:14
Mark
I think he could do with the loan, even though he's playing well. um But someone like Moreira, do you think it's worth getting him out on loan or do you think it's worth keeping hold of him with the first team for a bit longer?
00:15:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, I think he only played today because both Aina and Williams have been in the team recently.
00:15:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, let's say it would have been Aina and Moreno who started at the last game. It would have been and then, of course, Nico on the right and Marrero wouldn't have played.
00:15:29
Mark
Hmm.
00:15:35
Mark
Hmm.
00:15:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, yeah, and I think you have the right opportunity comes along. um I mean, let's say as long as there's a team top off of the championship. who are going to give him meaningful minutes, like, and I know that happens a lot these days, like um the big team, there's a clause in the contract, so they've got to pay us more if the player doesn't play.
00:15:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I think that sort of deal would be necessary. I mean, there's no, as long as he plays, he goes out, going out and playing great, going out and sitting on the bench, he may as well stay and train with us.
00:15:59
Mark
Hmm?
00:16:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
So if there's a move out there, great, but it's not a, it's not a must, I don't think.
00:16:08
Mark
Yeah.
00:16:11
Mark
Yeah, I think, well, I think, I think I'd prefer a clause. I don't think with the money wise, I don't think it's important for someone like Moreira because you wouldn't get that big of a fee anyway. I think it'd be more of a clause of like, you know, within the first 10, 10 games, if he doesn't start at least five, then we'll recall him.
00:16:24
Mark
Something then like a recall clause would be better, I would say.
00:16:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:16:27
Mark
um But yeah, looking good though. It's like starting to see players like that come into the team and and do well.
00:16:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:16:32
Mark
um And, you know, I think it says something about our squad this season that, you know, like for how long have we not had a left back for? Do you know what I mean? Like, and this season, the depth is so strong that in the FA cup, Moreno played at left back on loan from Villa and he's potentially our best left back.
00:16:48
Mark
Like, it's like.
00:16:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I mean, we're so interested because, um of course, his best game for us, Moreno, was still up against Salah, against Liverpool.
00:16:56
Mark
Yeah.
00:16:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
But then, in fact, he played today. It suggests that he's not even going to play against Salah round two um because the slightest knee goes now.
00:17:00
Mark
yeah
00:17:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, yeah, you're completely right. It just shows we have the most positions. I mean, not all. And we have a a good 17, 18 of very, very good players. It's maybe some of those on on the fringes today.
00:17:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Someone like Ward Prowse or Yuffter and Sosa want quite at the level of the players have come into replace. But most are. Most are, which is very, very good to see.
00:17:22
Mark
Yeah, after speaking to Marley and James and and talking about the team today and and how they how they worked together, how they got to know each other, how they how they fitted together. Once again, I think, you know, a lot of people have complained over the years, you know, he's not always had the best game, but ah once again, Yatesy, I mean, he proves constantly how important he is to our squad. I mean, he's vital, isn't he?
00:17:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Completely, completely. Yeah, leadership as well, when it is a ah randomly cobbled together set of 11 players who haven't otherwise played together in that combination before to have someone with his, not even with his experience, because he's not that old, but with his leadership and his his his qualities, the fact that he took that game by the scruff of the neck, opened the scoring, and by all accounts was key a key player as Forrest sailed into the next round of the Cup.
00:18:07
Mark
Yeah, a hundred percent.

Transfers and Squad Balance

00:18:08
Mark
I mean, we've talked about transfers as well. And then, you know, Yates had proved vital. I mean, it's, it's got to give Dominguez credit as well. You know, that he could barely get a sniff to start off with with Nuno and he's worked really hard and he's now kind of like a mainstay in the team. Really. He was one of the ones that got brought on with the, the kind of cavalry Hudson or doy Alanga and woods. Um, looking at the, the second string 11 state, it's quite nice to see as.
00:18:31
Mark
you know, be able to take on a looting team that aren't that different from last season and to kind of relatively comfortably win. I know we didn't play particularly well second half until the goal, but um it's nice to see that strength. Where else depth wise do we still need to strengthen? Because the starting 11 is looking all right at the minute, you know, and I think if they if they keep improving and growing, because they're quite young, they they could all be fine for our starting 11, even next season in the Champions League to start off with.
00:18:56
Mark
um But where where else do we need to strengthen? I know Carmo's coming back at center half. We keep hold of him. So probably not too much of a worry, because he'll replace Bolly. Do we need another left-sided defender?
00:19:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, ah probably. um Yeah, it's a good good phrase it as left-sided defender. So someone could play left center back and left back could be could be an option.
00:19:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, it all depends on I mean, if we do sell Marilla, I mean, that will be for such a large sum of money that we could sign.
00:19:15
Mark
Yeah.
00:19:19
Mark
Could buy a new team for that.
00:19:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, exactly. It's three or four at least quality players to to to replace him. So No, I think get the um there's attacking players. Again, there is a drop off between Alanga and Hudson and Doy. And so is this someone, a big name like our episode a week or so ago, we mentioned Borja Sainz, we mentioned Daniel Marle, and a name like that could be could be someone exciting to strengthen the 11 and not just to strengthen the 25.
00:19:48
Mark
Yeah, a hundred percent. and I think, I mean, if we get a name, I mean, I know we've been linked with Douglas Louise. I would be amazed if we pulled that off. I know I like, we've been linked with people before, like Gibbs White and, you know, Hudson Adoy. And I was like, wow, we've actually managed it. But like Douglas Louise, when, when he was, and I know he's not, so he struggled at the event this season, but when he was at Villa, he was outrageously good.
00:20:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I mean, but that's the thing. If he isn't isn't playing at Juventus, I mean, I know it's an eva know hes he himself has apparently said he wants to wait until the end of the window in case maybe one of the bigger teams panics and goes for him instead.
00:20:21
Mark
yeah
00:20:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
But, right, if if if there's no panic or if he's convinced by by Nuno, obviously speaking Portuguese ah as a Brazilian player, Nuno managed to sweet talk him and say he could be part of something special here, but then why not?
00:20:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Juventus, yeah, it hasn't worked for him. He went there. with his wife who joined the the women's team. She hasn't played either. So maybe that'll be a a big name signing for our women's team. We're going for promotion in their league as well.
00:20:43
Mark
Yeah. What a shot that would be if we signed his wife as well for the men's team. I'd be like, hey, gosh, he must be brilliant. Wow.
00:20:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Definitely.
00:20:51
Mark
mean that's but I mean, some of the women's football now is cracking though, isn't it? I mean, I can't wait for Forrest to rise.
00:20:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
i
00:20:56
Mark
It's really nice to see our women's team doing well. i But yeah, I mean, I'm surprised people like City aren't in for Douglas Louise. I know he was from you know he was there a while ago before he went to Villa, but, you know, yeah.
00:21:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, that would make even more sense, because maybe he counts as a homegrown city player or something, because he was there as a youngster.
00:21:09
Mark
Yeah.
00:21:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
So yeah, maybe that's what he's waiting for. Maybe he's hoping that every turn of the city will be on the cards.
00:21:17
Mark
In terms of the site, obviously he'd be a great player for us. Like he would, we will be good signing, but if we've got him like even on loan, do you think it's detrimental to the rest of the squad though? Cause Danilo is now back. If he stays fit, would he play over Douglas Louise?
00:21:29
Mark
If he was on loan, you know, would that push war prowess down the pecking order? Is there any point in, you know, having him on loan for the rest of the season, even though we can't send him back, you know, that if Sangari is then fit, but like we we're a bit stacked, aren't we?
00:21:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I mean, I think, I mean, I think what I've said about War Prowse, it was, I didn't, we weren't expecting the opportunity to necessarily be sacked, but now he has, who knows, maybe he's more of a Grand Potter player than maybe, maybe it does change things at Westtown, maybe there is that option to send him, but back there now, it wasn't a few weeks ago.
00:21:58
Mark
Mayday.

FA Cup Opponents and Team Priorities

00:22:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
But you're right, in in general, I mean, that's why you have to be a Douglas Louise type player, no, not a John Joe Shelby type player, we signed two years ago, who was, complete wrong and on and off the pitch. So we'd have to sign someone that said to improve the 11.
00:22:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, up front maybe, you have someone to improve the squad, someone on behind wood and give competition for tyre over a place on the bench.
00:22:13
Mark
yeah
00:22:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
In central midfield, you're right, we've got so many options up there. It would be for someone want to improve the 11, but there'd be no point in getting someone just to improve the squad.
00:22:28
Mark
Yeah, and also for the dressing room, I think the dressing room is massively important because we've got such a good vibe.
00:22:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Definitely.
00:22:33
Mark
Positive. ah Fourth round, who do you want?
00:22:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, still, I always like going going to the small grounds. I think at the Exeter, did they hold on? I think they're one of the lowest lowest ranked teams. So so like yeah someone like Exeter away at a big televised game, going to a nice tiny small ground, would be fun.
00:22:46
Mark
They're 1-3-1. They'll be Oxford.
00:22:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
But equally, another boring championship team at home to win and get going from further would would be nice too. So not not i not a big Premier League team.
00:23:00
Mark
Yeah.
00:23:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
It would be I think they'll put us in too much of a quandary. Should we go strengthened? Should we go weakened? So yeah, someone on someone not in the Premier League preferred.
00:23:08
Mark
If we get like Plymouth away, all the forest fans are going to be like, oh, Stuart, man, why did you get a long dry Exeter?
00:23:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep, definitely.
00:23:16
Mark
But if we win buzzing, nice ground clearance, actually is a nice ground, big win at Brentford for them today.
00:23:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Definitely.
00:23:22
Mark
Um, but something like that. Do you think it's more important for us to have a cup run?
00:23:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, I think if we were sixth or seventh right now, then I'll say yes, a cup run, you're going to qualify for Europa League, then winning a cup is obviously better than finishing sixth, because we're at that those few points higher because we are second.
00:23:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't know. I mean, I would have been disappointed to lost today because it would have got rid of our momentum. It would have shown those
00:23:47
Mark
Yeah.
00:23:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
second-string players aren't at the level.
00:23:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
But no, so I would want us to, as long as we're beating teams we're meant to beat, whether we, and let's say if we go out out to City or Liverpool in the next round, I wouldn't be upset, but equally, um we've got to be keep beating the lower league teams and see how far it takes us.
00:23:50
Mark
Yeah.
00:23:59
Mark
yeah
00:24:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
But no, in this season, whether they would be special, finishing the Champions League would set us up for longer with the extra TV money, the extra calibre of players we could then sign.
00:24:16
Mark
Yeah. I have a cup run where it's always fun, isn't it? So get to like, you know, the quarters, the semis and see how we get on.
00:24:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:24:21
Mark
Um, but yeah, if we did get knocked out by someone like city next round, I suppose it saves us. Um, obviously like, you know, with the FA cup, um, could be a good run.
00:24:32
Mark
Do you think, do you think it would mess off season up potentially?

Upcoming Liverpool Match Significance

00:24:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. No, mean I think we've I mean, yeah, if someone gets an injury in the next round, then don't clip this up. But yeah, we've got the players who need minutes.
00:24:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we aren't in Europe yet. We've been lucky and fortunate that Wood and Ainer and Gibbs-Wyatt have been fit almost the whole time. So a couple of hours, we need a few more games just to keep things interesting, to keep the players on the toes.
00:24:47
Mark
yeah
00:25:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
So no, I don't think. we would miss out on fifth in the league or fourth in the league. You should know if they cut for it. It's not that many more games the teams were competing against are in Europe as well.
00:25:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
So now I don't think you'll make too much of an impact.
00:25:11
Mark
Yeah.
00:25:13
Mark
Yeah, that's true. And also it keeps those players eager as well, because they all get in some sort of game time.
00:25:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:25:17
Mark
Final question to wrap it up, right? How important is it for us to get some sort of a result against Liverpool, even if it's like a 1-0 loss? Because I think my worry is that if we if we did hypothetically lose 4-0, which I don't see, to be fair, I mean, we potentially could win it. I mean, they're a good team, but we potentially could win. We're doing really well this season. But my worry is if we lose like 4-0, which we won't, but if we did,
00:25:45
Mark
It would have like the effects that used to happen when we used to play Derby in the championship. If we like lost to Derby, our season would just plummet for like two or three months. Do you think if if the if the game goes badly against Liverpool, do you think it could have an effect on on the kind of the month after?
00:26:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think you're completely right. There's a good example to make. we've got a If we get battered, then all the doubts come in and say, oh, yeah, it was a fault position. We shouldn't have been third anyway. But if we play like title contenders or European contenders, and even if we lose, we'll then continue to play like European contenders in the next game. And then it won't lose our momentum too much. But when we get battered, if it's a really disappointing game, then, yeah, I think it's only going to kill the momentum.
00:26:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know it's the best possible game

Maintaining Momentum and Conclusion

00:26:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
afterwards. Southampton at home in the game after that, but equally becoming into that against after having such a disappointing game against Liverpool, then maybe it will begin to spread those doubts.
00:26:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I think a good performance is he's is' very, very important, I would say.
00:26:44
Mark
Yeah.
00:26:48
Mark
Massive game against cell arms and that, because they'll be tricky to play. They're always, the the bottom teams are always tricky to play against, but yeah, good day today. Good win fourth round, uh, momentum still going seven wins in a row. It's good. Great start to the new year. Happy new year everyone. And, um, we'll, uh, we'll definitely be back before the Liverpool game to build up to that. Cause I think that's going to be some sort of humdinger in it for.
00:27:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, under the lights. Firstly, third it is going to be one for us all to remember. And hopefully we'll be all four of us back. Maybe that'll be yeah a nice run of a good set of episodes here at GSPN Daily Forest.
